#star wars outlaws#kay vess#nix#did a brief detour into this game it isn't bad! but certainly lacks in polish for core loops. tutorialization pipelines are ass also#performance - also ass. had to play quality on ps5 for it to have any clarity at all. but the open world is gorgeous#and it certainly nails the very narrow target of horse girl star wars fantasy (ripping across tatooine on a speeder with a little Guy)#nix is everything I love him. modern star wars rarely captivates me but they do know how to do lil guys real well#my photos#star wars#also-also. would be remiss not to mention. never played a game with unregulated scope creep this noticeable before. it's baffling#I KNOW people crunched on this it's in the walls in the floorboards it's everywhere. unmitigated hodge podge of mechanics and pillars#and those pillars are often unbalanced between each other. storytelling payloads are an issue too. there's pre-rendered in-engine cutscenes#real-time in-engine cutscenes. and digic-produced full CG cutscenes. and their placement and prioritization feels insane and inscrutable#like three different teams were working on the game at the same time and never in congress or coordination#it also suffers from the open world 4th and 5th priority narrative payload issues - many secondary and sometimes even primary questgiving#and expository dialogues are in-game zoomed camera lipsync exchanges. or flavor text#on the other hand - surprisingly deft mission design itself? side quests reward either cosmetics or actual unlockable deployable skills#it has fleeting genes of a metroidvania spread across a wide open world in that sense. but only fleeting. the rep system is a smokescreen#and progression in general has a very open and unsatisfying end to it. this game needed less scope and maybe no space stuff at all#the resulting resource allocation adjustment would truly make for a captivating open world adventure. as it stands it feels like#a product of overworked people misusing mismanaged budgets and managing to sprinkle some love into it regardless#games should never be good on the merit of their perceivable seasoning of overwork and passion. that really only bakes a sadness cake

A Guide to My Luminary Cosplay pt 2: The Jacket
Firstly. My jacket is not perfect, it does not fit me the way I would ideally want it to fit, take everything I say with a grain of salt.
I HEAVILY altered drcos’ stand up collar coat for the fabric part, it took about 7 mockups to reach a fit I was mostly happy with. It was very tricky for me as my hip-waist ratio is quite large so I had to add a lot of space around there to get the coat to close all the way down, plus more on the waist to obscure my shape a bit to give a more masculine fit. The coat flares out slightly from the waist too for a cartoony shape.
As for fabric, it is made of a klona cotton with a twill lining, for stiffness. One of the parts I’m most proud of is that despite using heavier cottons, the back of the jacket flares out like it does in game!!

Now onto the leather portions. I couldn’t find a brown faux leather that didn’t look either obviously cheap and/or really plasticky, so I bought some really thick beige faux leather and painted it using acrylic paint mixed with fabric medium, dabbing and rubbing it in with a sponge. I mixed lots of different tones to give it colour variation just like real leather.
This took A While, but I’m so happy with the results! Most people have no idea its not real leather. However, there is Quite a large problem with using paint. It rubs off, especially after the contest where I was extremely nervous and rubbed off all the paint under my armpit lmao.
But I later found it it actually has an upside! When I repaint over these gaps, it gives the leather even more colour variation. Basically free weathering every time I wear the jacket!!!
Out of the gate I knew I wouldn’t be able to match how the upper leather portion is shown with no seams. Faux leather simply cannot bend and mould to shape like that, so I cut my bodice leather into 4 pieces.
This was before I cut a seam in the back as the leather would not lie flat on the back due to me having a slightly curved seam there for fit. I ended up having to add this really silly looking seam
The jacket’s buckles are fake. In a previous attempt I tried to use the buckles as the fastening but I found they simply didn’t have enough hold, and they weren’t flexible enough to stay fastened when I moved. So underneath the buckles are snaps! They stay fastened when I move and they mean I can get out the coat quickly, which is handy cause it is HOT in there. There’s 2 hooks and eyes at places where the jacket often gapes, at the collar and the centre front chest.
I think this covers everything? I know I didn’t cover the collar or how it was lined (bag lining) but that’s pretty simple stuff so I hope this helps!

Amber isle newbies beware, the first quest chain where Adi asks you to make two items after visiting the valley for the first time, you have to craft EXACTLY two items and not anything else or you softlock the game sometime in the next 1-2 days where it'll lock when you try to craft things.
You can replace the save with the backup that says CHAPTER 3 on it, it'll be back to the start of that day, but before you're asked to craft anything. This will allow you to follow the instructions precisely and the rest of the game should work fine from there.

I think there's always fun discourse to be had whenever it comes to the definition of a genre. And by that I mean I have to fight anyone who disagrees with me
#but not as much as the guy out there who said crpgs didn't have to have rp and shouldn't have quests#but needed to be isometric and should be turn based and 2D or you were on thin ice and seemed willing to kill over it#thinking about that guy#definition also included that it should be so hard that most people who played it died in tutorial and quit#as much as that guy is a bit out there I don't consider any very action focused 3D game without RP even potentially a CRPG#so really who am I to judge. skyrim isn't a CRPG or any kind of RPG even. and yet some people hold... a mysterious other belief.#rambling

A Guide to My Luminary Cosplay pt 1: The Wig
No it is NOT my own hair!!!
I get a lot of questions about this wig, and honestly there’s a lot more going on here then meets the eye so I thought I would walk through the process. I hope this helps at least one person.
Firstly, this is a high quality Wigisfashion synthetic lacefront wig. Would I recommend every Luminary cosplayer go grab themselves a stupid expensive fuckass bob wig? Absolutely not. I decided to invest in a lacefront as I knew I was going to get a lot of use of it, and I wanted to make Eleven’s other outfits. If this is more of a casual cosplay then honestly don’t do this, I’m just deeply unnormal about the guy. It cost me about £70 (about $90 in freedom units) without shipping. Who needs to eat anyway.
This is how the wig looked when it was shipped to me. Importantly, I had to check before I bought it that it had a movable parting. A lot of bob wigs don’t come with a centre front part cause its pretty unflattering so make sure you can move the parting!!
This is the wig after just being cut. It was missing a lot of that volume Eleven has in spades. I think my main issue with this wig was how stylized Toriyama art is. If I’d decided to recreate his hair 1-1 to the game, I might as well be wearing a helmet, but if I just used this limp ass bob, then really it doesn’t give Eleven either. So I had to find a way to add a realistic amount of volume.
My solution was to rip apart my old Eleven wig (Not my first rodeo at making his outfit, so I had an old badly cut bob from the last time lying around) and add all that hair to my new wig. I hand sewed them in and it took ages, but I didn’t want to glue them as I didn’t think it would be sturdy enough. I then crimped and teased these added hairs only. This texturised them and gave them volume, but by not doing that to all the hair, it kept the volume manageable and realistic. Also this style is like everything-proof- I fucking washed this wig and the volume remained. Unintentional but very helpful.
I did a trial run with this wig and a mockup of the coat at megacon 2024 and I spent a lot of time studying the pics of the wig afterwards as I wasn’t happy with how it looked but couldn’t work out why. It's because the ends are too thick! Eleven’s hair curls under a bit, and to achieve that you need to thin out the ends of the hair (I know this because in 2019 I too had a stupid curled under bob, no the pics will neve go online)
You can see in this side pic how the hair angles inwards. I wish I had a better picture but I used thinning shears on the bottom of the hair and just kinda went ham on them. Make sure you thin out a little above the tips too, to make the curve more subtle and realistic.
My most recent outing in the wig, at Square Enix’s DQ3 remake event at their London offices.
That’s about it really. Getting the wig hairline to look realistic is a tutorial for a different person I think I’ve been using lash glue for the past year anyway don’t do that. I also resized my wig on the inside with sewing as I have a small ass head but thats also something thats very individual and best covered by a different tutorial.
