The media double standard which overlooks Trump's deteriorating mental state. (from PBS Washington Week - 8/30/24)
JEFFREY GOLDBERG (host and editor of The Atlantic): Here's the thing. I'll make this observation. I'll own it. If Kamala Harris went from bacon to wind in her interview with Dana Bash, she would, this morning, not be -- the next morning, she would not be the nominee of the Democratic Party. That would have been a very, very strange -- people would have been like, what is going on? Do we just have an absurdly low standard now for the things that Donald Trump says and does? DOMENICO MONTANARO (panelist and senior political correspondent at NPR): I think that there is definitely a double standard, and I think part of it is how each side's voters interpret their candidate. And someone like Donald Trump, Republicans have had the opportunity for years to say this is not the guy we want. Instead, they've continued to get behind him. In every primary that Donald Trump weighs in on, he wins, and then the general election a lot of those candidates tend to lose. I think that from reporter's standpoint, we do have to be careful about how we -- what level we hold both of them to. When I fact-checked Donald Trump's hour press conference, he told 162 lies and distortions within that time period, 2.5 a minute, compared to Kamala Harris' DNC acceptance speech, where she had 12 statements that I found were contextually misleading or needed more.
Here's the entire episode.
youtube
The media has mostly shrugged off Weird Donald's unhinged rantings as Trump being Trump while holding Democrats to a higher standard.
We need to be more vocal about the double standard. When Trump has another crazed rant about sharks, windmills, electric batteries, and bacon which gets brushed off by a media provider, ask that provider: What would you be saying if a prominent Democrat conducted a similar unhinged rant?

not an american? allow me, an american🇺🇸, to explain our very simple and totally not-corrupt recent presidential history
in 2016, after being in office for 8 years, obama and biden passed the presidency to trump. then trump tried to win again, but biden beat trump, so trump then unwillingly passed the presidency back to biden, with harris. then biden really tried to pass the presidency to harris, but trump has now beat harris, so biden and harris will now pass the presidency back to trump.
so basically our leaders are just playing a really dirty and high stakes game of hot potato.
hope this helps!

Proposition: Make the moose a sign/symbol against Trump, Project 2025, etc.
I try not to get personally political on here (i.e make my own original politics posts instead of reblogs), but I had this idea a few days ago so I thought that I might share it.
Hear me out on this, but what if we used the moose as a sort of symbol for protesting against Trump, and by extension Project 2025? There’s a few reasons on why I came to this conclusion, but the main ones are the following:
Moose are often targets of hunters and poachers, similarly to how so many communities and minorities are being targeted by Project 2025. However despite that, moose will commonly fight back if they feel or are threatened, which is also similar to how we are trying to fight back, protest, and prepare for the outcome of this election.
What moose symbolize. In different places, moose symbolize several things. The most notable however is that they often symbolize strength and pride.
Moose are very enduring and adaptable animals, just like how we will endure these next four years and survive through Project 2025 and Trump
Feel free to build on this idea, spread it around, and more! If you want to use something like an emoji in relation to this idea, then I’d recommend the deer () emoji rather than the moose (🫎) emoji, since not everyone’s device can see it.
I will be keeping comments on this post on for now. BUT, if Trump supporters suddenly start trying to flock to this post and spew their bigotry and rhetoric, I will not hesitate to turn comments off. My account is NOT a safe space for Trump or Project 2025 supporters. I can and will block any accounts that support him or are ‘neutral’ on him. Please fucking educate yourself if you are in support of him.
RESOURCES :
List of Crisis Lines and Warm Lines that won’t call the police
How to stockpile on HRT (For both Transmascs and Transfems)
Trans Suicide Hotline

(I’ll add more resources as I find them. If you know of any, then feel free to reblog, dm me, or comment)
If you’re struggling because of the election’s outcome, remember this: you have to survive and keep going. If not for yourself, then for your family (whether it be biological or your found family). If not them, then your friends. If not then, then your pets if you have any. If not them, then dammit do it out of spite. Stay alive to spite that badly tanned, sad excuse of a man. Outlive him. Live your life happier than he or anyone associated with him has ever, or could ever live.
I believe in you. We can get through this. Together.

Recount
A lot of people, myself included, are advocating for a recount and an investigation into the 2024 election. I just want to make something very fucking clear – we are not the same as the MAGA idiots who fucking stormed the capital. It is our right as American citizens to want a recount and investigation, especially when so many small issues seem to have been piling up during the election – such as…

Nancy Pelosi says Biden and Trump should take mental fitness tests: The former House speaker also said it’s a “legitimate question" whether Biden’s poor performance at the debate was "an episode" or part of a "condition."

"If enough of us vote third party for president, we could actually GET somewhere with our policy goals!"
Baby girl you can't even get a majority of third party/independents in a single state legislature. In the past 30 years there have been seven independent/third party state governors, and of those, only three were genuinely independent. The rest either got elected as a R/D and switched mid-term when they alienated themselves from their state party, got elected as I and then switched to R/D during their terms (with some of them having served the R/D parties before), or served as proxy candidates with heavy backing and support from one of the major two parties. Even VERMONT, a relative stronghold for independent/third party candidates -- the place that brought you Bernie Sanders -- doesn't have a majority of third party candidates. And when I call them a stronghold, I mean they are the only state (I know of) that consistently elects (less than a handful of) Independent candidates to the state legislature; the place is still dominated by Ds and Rs.
"The highest power in the land can't actually be voted on so there's no reason to vote for the democrats"
Hey princess here are some high school civics question for you: How are Supreme Court judges nominated? :) By what process are they appointed? Who starts that process? :) Why is the Supreme Court considered reflective of who has won the presidency? :)
#the reason you 'cant get anywhere' with your policies is bc youre not the political strategists you think you are#some of you barely know how your own government functions and it fucking shows#and it would be one thing if i looked in ur bios and u were like. 15 or smthg.#but 30?!?!?! you're 30 yrs old and you dont understand that the rsn rvw was overturned under biden is bc trump got his foot in the door???#youre 30 and youll rant abt the long lasting effects of reagan's presidential policies but you cant fathom trump might have left#a similarly long-lasting legacy??#youre 30 and you think the echo chamber you put yourself in on the internet is proof that clrly a vast majority of ppl agree w u#and theres no need to play politics when the democrats couls just wave their wands and fix everything if they werent so evil#despite the fact that both of the ladt two elections about half the population was voting for trump???#the tight margins btwn repub and democrat in congress shld tell you that#you are 30 and dont understand what strategic voting is?#youre 30 and you dont understand the difference between state laws and federal laws#youre 30 and youre upset that joe biden is a 'fascist dictator' but not in the way that gives you everything you want?#youre 30 and youre acting like biden and the dems operate in a vacuum without interference feom political enemies and#moneyed interests that have thrown up lawsuits and obstructionist tactics and misinformation#everytime the try to do something good?#youre 30 and you think palestine will be saved if joe's not in office when the only other viable candidate in the running#was cozy with netanyahu and advocated 'finishing the job' re:palestine and moved the embassy to jerusalem#in a clr fuck you to any palestinian feelings?#youre 30??? youre 30 and you never outgrew the 'mommy and daddy made me mad so I'm gonna smoke to get back at them' mentality???

Being Jewish with dual US-Israel citizenship, having family in Israel, being left-wing, and having an MA in Middle Eastern Studies AND dealing with the events of October 7th onward has felt like being the most drunk sober person in the room/somehow drunk and sober at the same time. Kind of want to scream, but also need to keep my wits because too many people are being stupid/having the worst takes.

Jimmy Kimmel focused on Trump's deteriorating mental state. So this was therefore a longer than usual monologue.
And he sent a crew out to the Trump rally in Coachella to ask attendees what they thought about critical race theory, fracking, and other things Trump rants about.
BTW, many of the people at that Trump gathering were forced to walk for two hours through the desert in the dark because the busses which were supposed to take them back to their cars stopped running without notice.

my mom practically brags that she “doesn’t read secular things” on shabbat in a very condescending and holier than thou way, and I just laugh because she doesn’t read secular things but will sit there in front of the tv all day long watching trump interviews and campaign rallies (something she does every day of the week). how is that keeping shabbat holy? just download mods and make your sims practice judaism all day like the rest of us.

I’ve been rather dismal lately
But it’s always nice to keep a positive attitude, which is why I’ve decided to make a list of GOOD things that could emerge from a Trump Presidency! I know, I know, it looks like doom and gloom right now, (because it is) and the next four years are going to be extremely unpleasant, but I sincerely believe that (ignoring the next four years) the future has rarely looked brighter. So, my list of good things, in no particular order, shall follow:
Donald Trump will crash the economy. “But MrPagesFrontispiece!” You cry in unison “I thought this would be a list of good things!” And that’s because it is! When Trump crashes the economy, (almost inevitable due to his plans to remove the independence of the Federal Reserve) the stock market is going to tumble downwards at a rarely precedented rate! Which means that it will be an INCREDIBLE time to buy! Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if the S&P 500 dips below 3 digits! And once the market is obscenely low, and you’ve all bought dozens of shares, it will eventually climb back up, as markets always do. And then we’ll all be rich! And money, despite what people like to say, really does fix a lot of problems!
The Market, after crashing, might stay down. This means that the Glorious Proletarian Revolution I said wouldn’t come out of a Trump Presidency really would happen! And wouldn’t that be great? I’d love to be proven wrong about that.
Now that America is no longer a reliable defense partner, further Intra-European Defense coordination is almost inevitable! (It’s already happening. You heard about the new Polish nuclear program yet?) Which means further European Federalism! Which leads me neatly to my next point…
Global Hegemony will shift back to Europe! The American Empire is finally on the cusp of crumbling! How exciting! We’ll finally be in a multipolar world again! Unfortunately, two of those poles will be Russia and the PRC, but I’m betting that India will join Europe in being the guarantors of Democracy. Things have been looking up in India, after all!
When Trump repeals the 22nd Amendment, it’ll mean that we can finally have Obama ‘28! THAT’S RIGHT! OBAMA MIGHT GET A THIRD TERM!
Trump is obscenely old. He’s as old as Biden was when he won the first time, and he’s certainly not aging as well. This means that we’ll get the same schadenfreude that Republicans did when they made fun of Biden! They seemed to have a lot of fun calling him Sleepy Joe and such. How does Sleepy Don sound? Now you get to do that too!
Brentry! That's right, calling it now, if Labour wins the next elections then Britan’s reentry into the EU will probably happen. This might just be happy for me specifically, but I hope that it’s somewhat of a comfort for you too.
Think of the art! Such music, such poetry, such prose, such canvas, such theatre is to come from this time! Why, they'll probably teach a college class on it in a few decades! So get to creating, creatives! Whom amongst you shall create the next Guernica? The next First They Came? The finest artworks emerge from times of despair, and I cannot wait to see what we make!
We’ll get to kick Trump out of office again! And trust me, he’ll be kicked out of office. Now, I've heard whispers that there won't be a 2028 election. I've looked at the situation, and I really don't think that's possible. For one, the Republicans might have a tripartite majority, but they don't have a supermajority in either house. As such, no Constitutional Amendments can be passed, (I was just jesting about the Obama one) and pretty much the entire General Staff hates Trump. This means that he won't be able to legally get rid of elections, and he doesn't have nearly enough support in the military establishment for a self-coup. If he tried, I would bet that just a regular coup would occur. And hey!
Turkey’s most progressive constitution ever was written by the leaders of a military coup!
now, I know times look bleak, but I hope this might have just brightened your day a little. And if it didn't, then perhaps you'd like to inquire into the story of Dora Richter? I imagine that it could provide a decent deal of hope to many of you chaps. Anyway, signing off, as is rapidly becoming my custom, with a particular phrase:
We greet the persecuted and the oppressed. We greet our friends in America. Your steadfastness and loyalty deserve admiration. The courage of your convictions and your unbroken optimism guarantee a brighter future.

Please don't leave, please stay, ok? I know it's hard, believe me, I absolutely know. However, that's what they want. They want us to leave, to give up, to wave our white flags. This makes it easier and easier each time for them to get the policies they want through, for them to get the people they want elected, for them to do what they want without a single protest against them. They want all the uneducated people on these topics to be all that remains so they can control everything. We need to stay to continue educating and to continue protesting against them.

Super heavy vent ahead in the tags
#bird chirps#vent#Talking about political stuff and suicidal ideation#But genuinely I cant anymore with this election. Im fucking terrified#Granted my dad’s a major pessimist and I think he lowkey enjoys others suffering#So his passionate rants about how we have no future and life isnt worth it if Trump wins definitely isnt helping#But holy shit Im actually terrified#Im trying to not crawl into the pit of despair but I really don’t know how life can go on worst case scenario#I cant delay my life four more years minimum for another recession/depression#I cant stay in this house and watch my rights get taken away#Theres just so much shit to be afraid of#And granted I live in a swing state. I think its still a swing state anyway since we tend to vote republican#So the campaigning here gets brutal#But it’s hard to stay positive when it seems like EVERYONE irl is so fucking pro trump#Im just praying theres a silent majority and that isnt the case#But God I cant fucking do this man#Situations where you have little to no control over the outcome are a fucking nightmare#I can vote so at least that’s something. But thats not enough to ease the anxiety#I need the outcome to be GUARENTEED and thats just not gonna happen#So I just sit here as shit gets worse and it’s harder to keep calm#And I dont have a good track record of having Safe Mental Health while in election times#So this just. Really fucking sucks#I hate when I get like this because it feels like such a major step back#And with an event THIS big its hard to push it all away as irrational and a mental health issue#Because my brain goes ‘Well LOGICALLY you WONT be able to go on so this is a correct way to think’#I hate it so fucking much#If Trump wins Ill pick up smoking or something. Fuck it#Deciding on an action like THAT is still less destructive than full on suicide plan#But I just. I cant fucking do this#Can I teleport to 2028 and just pray everythings okay
