Unpopularity contest.

April 10, 2025
Last week, pretend president Donald Trump appeared on NBC's Meet the Press and bragged as usual about how successful his administration is and how everybody absolutely adores him, telling host Kristen Welker:
You have to start by saying, I have the highest poll numbers of any Republican for the last 100 years. We’re in the high 70s in many polls, in the real polls, and you see that. And, and you know, we’re very popular.
A few days later, Alina Habba, former parking garage lawyer and now an acting US Attorney also argued on Faux News that Trump's public support was "skyrocketing," with his approval rating reaching "an all-time high of anyone." But as MSNBC pointed out, this is a barefaced lie, and the truth is precisely the opposite: "At this point in their terms, every other Republican president since the dawn of modern polling enjoyed stronger support than Trump does."
In fact, all the major polling organizations — including Gallup, NBC News, Reuters, CNN, Morning Consult, Marquette Law school and Quinnipiac University — have reported Trump's approval rating to be somewhere in the low forties with the majority of respondents disapproving his job performance.
But as disliked as Trump is, multi-billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk, Trump's "governing partner, ubiquitous cheerleader and Washington hatchet man" (to quote Politico), is even more detested. In a February Pew Research poll, over half (54%) of US adults surveyed said they had an unfavorable view of Musk. By April, Marquette University found that Musk’s personal unfavorability had climbed to 60%.
This widespread abhorrence of Musk is reflected in the declining sales of his Tesla electric cars worldwide, the protests at his dealerships and the company's plummeting stock price. Which has resulted in Musk losing more than a quarter of his total net worth since January.
Musk also suffered several public humiliations last week, beginning with his fervent support of a pro-Trump candidate for the Wisconsin Supreme Court. That MAGA stooge lost embarrassingly, even though Musk had shoveled $20 million into his war chest and campaigned for him wearing one of those stupid cheese hats. Plus, only hours after the loss in Wisconsin, Tesla reported its biggest sales drop ever, falling 13% in the first quarter.
This was followed by reports of some Trump administration insiders and many outside allies saying they were frustrated with Musk's unpredictability and increasingly viewed him as a political liability. The Lincoln Project's Rick Wilson agrees: "Elon Musk’s brand is raw, rancid political poison." Maybe Trump should keep Musk around just so the dimwit president appears more popular by comparison.

Donald Trump has the lowest approval rating of any president at the time of inauguration dating back to the early 1950s. He even starts off under water. That makes him unique.
So much for the claim that Trump has an overwhelming mandate to act like a dictator.
Trump's Inaugural Approval Rating Is Historically Low Again

Justin Trudeau Faces Intense Scrutiny Amid Resignation Pressure: What’s Next for Canada?
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau finds himself at the center of a political storm as speculation about his potential resignation dominates headlines. A combination of mounting domestic challenges, political controversies, and shifting public sentiment has placed his leadership under a microscope. This article unpacks the key developments, public reactions, and potential outcomes as Trudeau faces one of the most challenging periods of his political career.
Resignation Rumors: Fact or Political Maneuver?
Reports of Trudeau's potential resignation emerged following weeks of criticism from political adversaries and even some within his party. These rumors have sparked nationwide debate about the future of Canadian leadership. According to sources, Trudeau is facing mounting pressure from both Liberals and Conservatives to address ongoing issues, including economic concerns, environmental policies, and foreign relations.
CNN reported live updates as political commentators speculated whether Trudeau could weather the storm or step down to preserve party unity. The Wall Street Journal highlighted growing dissatisfaction among Canadians, citing polls that reveal declining approval ratings for Trudeau's government.
Domestic Challenges Amplify Pressure
Trudeau’s tenure has been marked by significant achievements but also numerous challenges. Recent events have exacerbated public frustrations, including:
Economic Woes: Rising inflation and housing affordability issues have left many Canadians struggling to make ends meet.
Environmental Policies: Critics argue that Trudeau's government has failed to strike a balance between promoting green initiatives and supporting the energy sector.
Ethics Controversies: Past scandals, including the SNC-Lavalin affair, continue to haunt his administration and erode public trust.
These issues have provided ample ammunition for opposition parties, who are leveraging the public’s discontent to call for a change in leadership.
Trump’s “Merger” Comment Sparks Controversy
Adding a bizarre twist to the story, former U.S. President Donald Trump made headlines by suggesting a “merger” between the United States and Canada under his leadership. Speaking at a rally, Trump claimed that such a union would solve many of Canada’s economic and political challenges.
The suggestion, while widely dismissed as impractical, has drawn sharp criticism from Canadian officials and media outlets. The Hill reported that many viewed Trump’s comments as an opportunistic attempt to undermine Trudeau’s credibility during a vulnerable moment.
Public and Political Reactions
The Canadian public remains divided on Trudeau’s leadership. While some laud his progressive policies, others argue that his government has failed to address pressing national concerns effectively. Social media platforms are ablaze with discussions, reflecting a polarized electorate.
Political opponents have seized the moment to push their agendas. Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre has called for Trudeau’s immediate resignation, citing the need for “fresh leadership to restore confidence in the government.” Meanwhile, members of the New Democratic Party (NDP) have urged Trudeau to refocus on economic reforms rather than stepping aside.
International Implications of Trudeau’s Leadership
Trudeau's leadership extends beyond Canada’s borders. As a prominent global figure, his decisions impact international relations, particularly with the United States, European Union, and China.
Key concerns include:
Trade Relations: A change in leadership could alter Canada’s stance on key trade agreements, affecting industries on both sides of the border.
Climate Change Commitments: Trudeau has been a vocal advocate for climate action, and his resignation could create uncertainty around Canada’s environmental policies.
Geopolitical Alliances: As tensions with China and Russia escalate, Trudeau’s departure could shift Canada’s foreign policy approach.
What’s Next for Trudeau and Canada?
While Trudeau has not publicly confirmed or denied rumors of resignation, political analysts suggest several possible scenarios:
Trudeau Steps Down: This could trigger a leadership race within the Liberal Party, with key figures like Chrystia Freeland and Mark Carney emerging as potential successors.
Trudeau Stays On: He may attempt to rebuild public trust and navigate his government through this turbulent period.
Snap Election: If the political climate remains unstable, a snap election could be called, giving Canadians the opportunity to decide the country’s direction.
Conclusion: A Pivotal Moment for Canadian Politics
Justin Trudeau’s leadership is at a crossroads, and the decisions made in the coming weeks will have lasting implications for Canada’s political landscape. Whether he chooses to step down or continue leading, the challenges he faces underscore the complexities of governing in today’s polarized and unpredictable world.
Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops, and Canada navigates through a critical chapter in its history.

Mass email to air traffic controllers today urging them to quit.
Elon Musk's cronies have blocked career civil servants from accessing key federal employee data systems, raising security concerns since now those employees can't see what he is doing to the computer systems.
25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico go into effect today. In Canada the mood is retaliatory, I hope this sinks the conservatives' chances at the next election over there.
CDC deleted data including HIV, LGBTQ, at-risk teens and at-risk communities from their website. They are under a gag order to not discuss but this is all public information.
Another judge upheld that the funding freeze - which is still in effect btw even though they rescinded the memo, national science foundation grants and money for researching public health and the environment is still frozen, plus of course foreign humanitarian aid - is highly illegal and violated the Impoundment Act.**
**Which might be what they want since a leaked Heritage Foundation memo says the play is to appeal the block all the way up to the supreme Court who will then rule to give Trump full control over money already approved and appropriated by Congress.
Also, to keep the funds frozen they have blocked access to the automatic payment systems, which is concerning all by itself... When I worked for a school district that operated this way (superintendent and business manager had to personally approve all the funds, everything took forever since there were no sutomatic systems in place) it is because they were stealing money from the budget.
Trump already proposing tax cuts for corporations (who saw record high profits last year) and the ultra-wealthy (by lowering estate taxes).
I know that last part is why corporations and billionaires supported his election but these are the actions of a saboteur. Surely the excuse that "it was the DEI hires" (with the implication that EVERY minority and woman in government is a "DEI hire") won't work every time????
We need the 91% of Republicans who currently approve of Trump's performance to wake up immediately and ask their congresspeople to impeach him or declare him mentally unfit. It's the only way forward.
If you want to feel a little hope, consider dropping by r/fednews. They're getting angry and sharing the emails and memos they've been getting.
#to be clear i dont have faith out systems will save us#BUT why should americans lie down and accept the destruction of the USA#we dont have to accept this#us politics#trumps disapproval rating is higher than his approval rating btw#in case anyone was under the impression that the majority of us americans want this

Can anybody give these old-ass Democrats protest lessons? They're acting like they're still living in pre-2015 politics when the GOP gave a shit and wasn't deranged.
A member gets up and starts shouting: All get up and shout with him.
Don't walk out: MAKE them carry you all out, not shutting up the entire time. I'm serious, go limp, be dead weight.
Putin's Puppet says a provable lie: Everyone chant "LIE" in unison for a solid minute instead of holding pitiful little signs in front of a man who can't read above a 3rd grade level.
Have someone who knows ASL sitting with you, interpreting everything in full view.
If you're gonna hold signs, make them BIG like you're actually trying to do something. Have them in multiple languages.
Make other signs that say clever or cutting things that will make him rage for days. "DOESN'T OLD TRUMP LOOK TIRED?" or "PUPPET PRESIDENT" or "EVERYONE IS FACT-CHECKING THIS SPEECH TRUMP DIDN'T WRITE" or "THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES" or his current tanking approval rating next to a laughing emoji.
Make a stink every day in congress, throw as many bills as you can on the floor even if they go nowhere, look like you're trying.
Have someone, idk maybe someone you actually want to boost for President in 3 gd years, be your voice of opposition in the media, loudly complaining and telling the facts, every single day. Let the people know you're there!
How hard is this? There's probably better suggestions than mine if they actually hired seasoned protestors or behaviorists/psychologists or even the biggest teenage troll they can find on a messageboard.
The Emperor Has No Clothes. So fucking act like it.

Jimmy Puts It All Into Perspective 🤣
I did not watch Herr Trump’s speech to a joint session of Congress and to the nation last night. There are only 24 hours in a day, and no matter how hard I try to get everything done in those 24 hours, there is never enough time! Thus, I do not have time to waste watching garbage. Donald Trump is garbage and whatever comes out of his mouth is garbage, therefore he isn’t worth my time. Anyway,…

Justin Trudeau has had his ups and downs over the past couple of years. In late 2024 things were looking bleak for his Liberal Party which has to face the voters in 2025.
Then along comes Donald Trump with his imperialistic bombast towards Canada and and Justin suddenly found his footing.
The prime minister announced his resignation which would take effect soon after the election of a new party leader. With his own ambitions off the table, Trudeau was able to concentrate on the threat from the south and promote national unity. As a result, his party has risen from near political oblivion to being reasonably competitive.
On January 5th the Liberal Party of Canada (LPC) was polling at a dismal 20% while the opposition Conservative Party of Canada (CPC), led by the MAGA-Lite Pierre Poilievre, was hitting 45% – enough for a majority government for his party. But as of March 9th, the CPC lwas down to 39% and the LPC had shot up to 33%.

^^^ BTW, the political colors are different in Canada.
Not just Canada, but in other countries having Trump attack you can be good for political leaders.
After the ambush by the Orange One and his henchman J.D. on President Zelenskyy in the Oval Office, the Ukrainian's ratings got a bounce back home.
Zelenskiy's approval rating rises in Ukraine after Trump spat, poll shows
In the UK, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer saw his approval rise as one of his opponents became increasingly associated with the unhinged Trump.
Starmer’s approval rating hits six-month high as Trump drags down Farage’s popularity
Even President Emmanuel Macron of France, whose ratings have been in the basement, has seen a boost.
Macron’s Approval Jumps in Poll as French Worry About Ukraine
Back to Canada. 🇨🇦
The Liberal Party chose Mark Carney to succeed Justin Trudeau on Sunday. In a bilingual speech with excerpts in the vid, Carney criticized both Pierre Poilievre and his role model Donald Trump.
youtube
Perhaps Carney's best line from the speech...
Pierre Poilievre's plan will leave us divided and ready to be conquered. Because a person who worships at the altar of Donald Trump will kneel before him, not stand up to him.

Ask A Genius 1270: Early Trump Administration
Rick Rosner: It’s worth noting that in the United States, tragic events occur regularly—consider school shootings, for example. While mass casualty events like these are not everyday occurrences, they generate significant social and political fallout. According to the Associated Press, large-scale air disasters are rare in the U.S., making incidents like this particularly impactful. Trump is…
