Justin Trudeau Faces Intense Scrutiny Amid Resignation Pressure: What’s Next for Canada?
Tumblr media
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau finds himself at the center of a political storm as speculation about his potential resignation dominates headlines. A combination of mounting domestic challenges, political controversies, and shifting public sentiment has placed his leadership under a microscope. This article unpacks the key developments, public reactions, and potential outcomes as Trudeau faces one of the most challenging periods of his political career.
Resignation Rumors: Fact or Political Maneuver?
Reports of Trudeau's potential resignation emerged following weeks of criticism from political adversaries and even some within his party. These rumors have sparked nationwide debate about the future of Canadian leadership. According to sources, Trudeau is facing mounting pressure from both Liberals and Conservatives to address ongoing issues, including economic concerns, environmental policies, and foreign relations.
CNN reported live updates as political commentators speculated whether Trudeau could weather the storm or step down to preserve party unity. The Wall Street Journal highlighted growing dissatisfaction among Canadians, citing polls that reveal declining approval ratings for Trudeau's government.
Domestic Challenges Amplify Pressure
Trudeau’s tenure has been marked by significant achievements but also numerous challenges. Recent events have exacerbated public frustrations, including:
Economic Woes: Rising inflation and housing affordability issues have left many Canadians struggling to make ends meet.
Environmental Policies: Critics argue that Trudeau's government has failed to strike a balance between promoting green initiatives and supporting the energy sector.
Ethics Controversies: Past scandals, including the SNC-Lavalin affair, continue to haunt his administration and erode public trust.
These issues have provided ample ammunition for opposition parties, who are leveraging the public’s discontent to call for a change in leadership.
Tumblr media
Trump’s “Merger” Comment Sparks Controversy
Adding a bizarre twist to the story, former U.S. President Donald Trump made headlines by suggesting a “merger” between the United States and Canada under his leadership. Speaking at a rally, Trump claimed that such a union would solve many of Canada’s economic and political challenges.
The suggestion, while widely dismissed as impractical, has drawn sharp criticism from Canadian officials and media outlets. The Hill reported that many viewed Trump’s comments as an opportunistic attempt to undermine Trudeau’s credibility during a vulnerable moment.
Public and Political Reactions
The Canadian public remains divided on Trudeau’s leadership. While some laud his progressive policies, others argue that his government has failed to address pressing national concerns effectively. Social media platforms are ablaze with discussions, reflecting a polarized electorate.
Political opponents have seized the moment to push their agendas. Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre has called for Trudeau’s immediate resignation, citing the need for “fresh leadership to restore confidence in the government.” Meanwhile, members of the New Democratic Party (NDP) have urged Trudeau to refocus on economic reforms rather than stepping aside.
International Implications of Trudeau’s Leadership
Trudeau's leadership extends beyond Canada’s borders. As a prominent global figure, his decisions impact international relations, particularly with the United States, European Union, and China.
Key concerns include:
Trade Relations: A change in leadership could alter Canada’s stance on key trade agreements, affecting industries on both sides of the border.
Climate Change Commitments: Trudeau has been a vocal advocate for climate action, and his resignation could create uncertainty around Canada’s environmental policies.
Geopolitical Alliances: As tensions with China and Russia escalate, Trudeau’s departure could shift Canada’s foreign policy approach.
What’s Next for Trudeau and Canada?
While Trudeau has not publicly confirmed or denied rumors of resignation, political analysts suggest several possible scenarios:
Trudeau Steps Down: This could trigger a leadership race within the Liberal Party, with key figures like Chrystia Freeland and Mark Carney emerging as potential successors.
Trudeau Stays On: He may attempt to rebuild public trust and navigate his government through this turbulent period.
Snap Election: If the political climate remains unstable, a snap election could be called, giving Canadians the opportunity to decide the country’s direction.
Conclusion: A Pivotal Moment for Canadian Politics
Justin Trudeau’s leadership is at a crossroads, and the decisions made in the coming weeks will have lasting implications for Canada’s political landscape. Whether he chooses to step down or continue leading, the challenges he faces underscore the complexities of governing in today’s polarized and unpredictable world.
Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops, and Canada navigates through a critical chapter in its history.

"C.C.F. BAN ON 'REDS'," Vancouver Sun. May 29, 1934. Page 1 & 2. --- By Canadian Press VICTORIA, May 29. - Taking a cue from what has happened in the East, Rev. Robert Connell, leader of the C. C. F. opposition in the Legislature, read Communists out of the Co-operative Commonwealth movement in British Columbia, Monday evening, in a clear-cut address before Victoria clubs of the organization. Speaking to an audience in the Maccabees Hall, the Parliamentary leader of the C. C. F. in this Province made himself unmistakably clear on the point.
Agitation, strikes, and advocacy of the overthrow of the state by force were no part of the machinery, thought or aims of the C. C. F. party, he said. Neither, he continued, were dictatorships, fascism, nor other forms of militarized states.
The Co-operative Commonwealth was Socialism, and its federation proposed the assumption of power in Canada by constitutional means solely. On this basis only would the C. C. F. appeal for public support, Rev. Mr. Connell said.
Talk of violence, from the moderate forms of direct action to the extremes of street fighting, was not only folly, but was doing active damage to the C. C. F. movement, he declared.
CONSTITUTIONAL MEANS The parliamentary group of the party in the House, and the Provincial Executive of the movement, were convinced that a change in the economic system could be brought about only by constitutional means, and that after winning the support of a majority of the people.
Steady strides had been made, he said, in winning the confidence and support of British Columbia voters, evidence to him on his recent tour of thirty centres in northern parts of the Province, and this work should be continued.
It should be explained at the outset that the C. C. F. stood for Socialism, and its application by constitutional methods.
The leader of the opposition gave an interesting description of his tour through northern ridings, in company with Ernest Bakewell, C. C. F. member for Mackenzie.
SURPRISE FOR LIBERALS An election in the north today would furnish the Liberal administration with a vast surprise, he declared. After an address of an hour and a half, Rev. Mr. Connell responded to questions from the floor.

hi, i just saw your post about the precedence of ppl talking as if 2000 yrs caused jewish indigeniety to expire, and it made me think of the slogan "israel is younger than my grandma". it's an annoying phrase on its own because there are a lot of living grandmas older than a lot of different countries bc the 20th century has been a wild ride of geopolitical turbulence, but the desperation behind it betrays a kind of "it's not too late" energy - showing that these people have totally given up on decolonizing america, canada, australia, nz, and the other settler states they say they hate exactly as much as israel, but don't put a fraction of the energy into marching against. at most they're further down the revolutionary list, but at worst they're fully setting the expiration on indigenous rights to the age of a currently living grandma
Exactly this.
Palestine has been around just as long as Israel has as brittish mandate Palestine was a different country to Palestine. It was seen as a temporary extension of the brittish empire till they figured out what to do with it.
Like South Sudan became it's own country in 2011, Kosovo in 2008 and so many other countries. Even in the middle east, Yemen became it's own country in 1990. My parents are older than Yemen. I'm older than South Sudan and Kosovo.
And you are exactly right that they've given up on settler states they claim to hate so much. Like I've said in other posts, they don't give two shits about Māori rights. I haven't heard anyone outside of NZ talk about the bill David Seymour wants to implement. B'H that literally every single other party in Parliment, both in the government and opposition (so 5 parties and one independent) refuse to support his bill.

I think that Logan would enjoy (more than he should) his s/o or crush or situationship telling him they’re proud of him
He needs to hear it
oh this ask is truly filthy. because can you imagine his reaction?? priceless. but also why is he hard and why is his heart twisting violently in his chest???
Tumblr media
It's after a party. A Wade certified good time (no cocaine involved per Disney rights) party. After saving the timeline Logan and the walking red condom of a man have been sought out to assist on "hero jobs". Or as Logan called it - paying rent.
Wade is lost in Vanessa's eyes and you're in the kitchen nursing an already warm beer. That's where Logan finds you. He greets you with a smile, a tentative how was your week, and hopes that you can't see the way his ears always turn that horrid shade of red in your vicinity.
You never do. He always wishes for the opposite.
At least then he'd have a reason to explain why he feels the way he does. Why your laughter brightens his day - your voice makes his head go the kind of fuzzy that usually only comes after a bullet to the skull. He wants you to know. Needs it some days.
If only he could see inside your head - catch the way your eyes linger on his body longer than necessary. You glance down at the belt buckles you've imagined opening time and time again. Before he turns back, handing you a freshly open cold beer.
You sip at it carefully - slow enough for his eyes to fix on your lips. How they part and mold around the top. It's not long before Logan has to adjust himself discreetly as you turn to glace at the group by the too small couch. If it were up to him, he'd ask to have your lips around something else. But as usual...he was a chickenshit.
"How was your um mission?" you ask, nerves lighting up beneath your skin. You wonder if he can hear the fast beat of your heart.
He nods. "Good. Wade and I helped out a woman being stalked."
"That's some hero work." You laugh and Logan can already see himself dropping to one knee some time in the future - a question ready to fall off the tip of his tongue. "I'm proud of you Logan."
The reaction is involuntary. Surprising if he actually thought about it for longer than a second. But the second was up and there he stood - eyes wide, lips parted, and cock throbbing at the knowledge that you...were proud of him. Every response he could have given you flew out the window the second you gave him the shock of his life.
He could stand there for hours wracking his brain and come up empty for how many times he'd heard those words in his lifetime. And he's been alive for a long fucking time.
"Thanks," he rasped, trying to fight every instinct that told him to take one more step, pin you to the counter, and kiss you until you breath ran out.
Instead he's left to flounder as you smile again, take another sip from your beer, and press a soft kiss to his cheek. Leaving him in the kitchen to join the group again, with a new issue on his hands. How the fuck was he supposed to walk back out there sporting a hard on that nearly made him light headed?
Answer: He downed his beer, grabbed a new one, and thought of Canada - and Wade. That didn't matter. One step out into the room he was locking eyes with that fucker - a shit eating smile directly on his scarred face.

The "religious liberty" angle for overturning the overturning of Dobbs
Tumblr media
Frank Wilhoit’s definition of “conservativism” remains a classic:
There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.
https://crookedtimber.org/2018/03/21/liberals-against-progressives/#comment-729288
Conservativism is, in other words, the opposite of the rule of law, which is the idea that the law applies equally to all. Many of America’s most predictably weird moments live in the tension between the rule of law and the conservative’s demand to be protected — but not bound — by the law.
Think of the Republican women of Florida whose full-throated support for the perfomatively cruel and bigoted policies of Ron Desantis turned to howls of outrage when the governor signed a law “overhauling alimony” (for “overhauling,” read “eliminating”):
https://www.orlandoweekly.com/news/this-is-a-death-sentence-for-me-florida-republican-women-say-they-will-switch-parties-after-desantis-approves-alimony-law-34563230
This is real leopards-eating-people’s-faces-party stuff, and it’s the only source of mirth in an otherwise grim situation.
But out of the culture-war bullshit backfires, none is so sweet and delicious as the religious liberty self-own. You see, under the rule of law, if some special consideration is owed to a group due to religious liberty, that means all religions. Of course, Wilhoit-drunk conservatives imagine that “religious liberty” is a synonym for Christian liberty, and that other groups will never demand the same carve outs.
Remember when Louisiana decided spend tax dollars to fund “religious” schools under a charter school program, only to discover — to their Islamaphobic horror — that this would allow Muslim schools to get public subsidies, too?
https://www.huffpost.com/entry/louisiana_n_1593995
(They could have tried the Quebec gambit, where hijabs and yarmulkes are classed as “religious” and therefore banned for public servants and publicly owned premises, while crosses are treated as “cultural” and therefore exempted — that’s some primo Wilhoitism right there)
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/quebec-francois-legault-crucifix-religious-symbols-1.4858757
The Satanic Temple has perfected the art of hoisting religious liberty on its own petard. Are you a state lawmaker hoping to put a giant Ten Commandments on the statehouse lawn? Go ahead, have some religious liberty — just don’t be surprised when the Satanic Temple shows up to put a giant statue of Baphomet next to it:
https://www.npr.org/2018/08/17/639726472/satanic-temple-protests-ten-commandments-monument-with-goat-headed-statue
Wanna put a Christmas tree in the state capitol building? Sure, but there’s gonna be a Satanic winter festival display right next to it:
https://katv.com/news/offbeat/satanic-temple-display-installed-at-illinois-capitol-next-to-nativity-scene-menorah-decorations-snake-serpent-satanic-temple-springfield-christmas-tree
And now we come to Dobbs, and the cowardly, illegitimate Supreme Court’s cowardly, illegitimate overturning of Roe v Wade, a move that was immediately followed by “red” states implementing total, or near-total bans on abortion:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/06/15/paid-medical-disinformation/#crisis-pregnancy-centers
These same states are hotbeds of “religious liberty” nonsense. In about a dozen of these states, Jews, Christians, and Satanists are filing “religious liberty” challenges to the abortion ban. In Indiana, the Hoosier Jews For Choice have joined with other religious groups in a class action, to argue that the “religious freedom” law that Mike Pence signed as governor protects their right to an abortion:
https://www.politico.com/news/2023/06/21/legal-strategy-that-could-topple-abortion-bans-00102468
Their case builds on precedents from the covid lockdowns, like decisions that said that if secular exceptions to lockdown rules or vaccine mandates existed, then states had to also allow religious exemptions. That opens the door for religious exemptions to abortion bans — if there’s a secular rule that permits abortion in the instance of incest or rape, then faith-based exceptions must be permitted, too.
Some of the challenges to abortion rules seek to carve out religious exemptions, but others seek to overturn the abortion rules altogether, because the lawmakers who passed them explicitly justified them in the name of fusing Christian “values” with secular law, a First Amendment no-no.
As Rabbi James Bennett told Politico’s Alice Ollstein: “They’re entitled to their interpretation of when life begins, but they’re not entitled to have the exclusive one.”
In Florida, a group of Jewish, Buddhist, Episcopalian, Universalists and United Church clerics are challenging the “aiding and abetting” law because it restricts the things they can say from the pulpit — a classic religious liberty gambit.
Kentucky’s challenge comes from three Jewish women whose faith holds that life begins “with the first breath.” Lead plaintiff Lisa Sobel described how Kentucky’s law bars her from seeking IVF treatment, because she could face criminal charges for “discarding non-viable embryos” created during the process.
Then there’s the Satanic Temple, in court in Texas, Idaho and Indiana. The Satanists say that abortion is a religious ritual, and argue that the state can’t limit their access to it.
These challenges all rest on state religious liberty laws. What will happen when some or all of these reach the Supreme Court? It’s a risky gambit. This is the court that upheld Trump’s Muslim ban and the right of a Christian baker to refuse to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple. It’s a court that loves Wilhoit’s “in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.”
It’s a court that’s so Wilhoit-drunk, it’s willing to grant religious liberty to bigots who worry about imaginary same-sex couples:
https://newrepublic.com/article/173987/mysterious-case-fake-gay-marriage-website-real-straight-man-supreme-court
But in the meantime, the bigots and religious maniacs who want to preserve “religious liberty” while banning abortion are walking a fine line. The Becket Fund, which funded the Hobby Lobby case (establishing that religious maniacs can deny health care to their employees if their imaginary friends object), has filed a brief in one case arguing that the religious convictions of people arguing for a right to abortion aren’t really sincere in their beliefs:
https://becketnewsite.s3.amazonaws.com/20230118184008/Individual-Members-v.-Anonymous-Planitiff-Amicus-Brief.pdf
This is quite a line for Becket to have crossed — religious liberty trufans hate it when courts demand that people seeking religious exemptions prove that their beliefs are sincerely held.
Not only is Becket throwing its opposition to “sincerely held belief” tests under the bus, they’re doing so for nothing. Jewish religious texts clearly state that life begins at the first breath, and that the life of a pregnant person takes precedence over the life of the fetus in their uterus.
The kicker in Ollstein’s great article comes in the last paragraph, delivered by Columbia Law’s Elizabeth Reiner Platt, who runs the Law, Rights, and Religion Project:
The idea of reproductive rights as a religious liberty issue is absolutely not something that came from lawyers. It’s how faith communities themselves have been talking about their approach to reproductive rights for literally decades.

Things are getting increasingly shitty in Canada for trans people and, not gonna lie, it's really stressful! Within the last month:
The Conservative Party of Canada, which is the official opposition party (AKA the party with the second most votes) and has a solid chance of forming the government in the next election, held a convention where they voted overwhelmingly in favour of creating policies to stop gender-affirming medical care for minors (link)
They also officially voted to define "woman" as "female person" and try to stop trans women from being in women's prisons, shelters, locker rooms, and washrooms
Multiple provincial governments are either enacting policies that would require parents' approval in order for trans kids to change their names or pronouns at school, or have officially said that they support forcibly outing kids (link)
A nonbinary teacher in Quebec received threats of violence for using pronoun "Mx" and other Quebec provincial parties complained about "wokeism" and said they wouldn't use the title (link)
And this doesn't include the homophobic & transphobic protests outside pride events throughout the summer or the "Save Our Children" convoy that's being planned for later this month (link), or the tons of shitty things that have happened all through this year, like tons of Ontario trans people (including me!) losing healthcare.
I'm trying to stay as optimistic as possible, knowing just how many trans people and allies there are, but sometimes! It's hard!
Anyways, if you're Canadian, please consider:
Getting involved in local, municipal politics, especially on school boards, to speak out about the need for gender-affirming policies, especially for youth
Showing up (with an organized, prepared group) to counter-protest anti-trans protesters
Keeping track of any anti- or pro-trans bills going around and contacting your MPs & MPPs to let them know what you think of them
Supporting 2SLGBTQ+ charities
Literally never ever voting conservative
And even if you're not Canadian, if you have friends who are Canadian & trans, maybe check in on them? Most Canadian trans people are pretty freaked out right now I think.

what led to getting ice cream ∞ j. fleming
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: what happens when your youth teammate had invited you to a party?
part (1)
Tumblr media
a year has passed since the first encounter with the freckled canadian, the one you found a bit intriguing. maybe it was her shyness, how reserved the midfielder was - or how she was the complete opposite of you. you were everything she wasn’t, spontaneous, easy-going, affectionate while jessie was media-shy, restrained and calm.
you knew sooner or later, you’d cross paths with her - you just didn’t expect it to be at a collegiate party. mallory pugh, a national teammate you had gotten along with during camps, especially the youth levels, had invited you to a frat party. tierna, despite her being a year older she decided to accompany you.
tierna had checked her phone, wondering if it was the correct address which it was - she gestured for you to go first and you did. the moment you opened the door to the frat house, all you smelled was booze, sex and drugs.
“in a few hours, meet me back here and try not to drink from any red cups, or cups that strangers give you. i don’t think the team will be happy when they find out.” tierna stated, as you gave her a curt nod. you didn’t even like the idea of drinking or using.
as she disappeared from your view, you made your way through the crowd. you were clad in a stanford hoodie, a casual gray jogger, and a pair of typical running shoes. the backyard was vacant, you hummed before taking a spot near the entrance.
playing with the pocket watch your mother had given you - it claimed to be your father’s - “the one you never met”. there was this part of you that hated him.
but looking away from your watch, your eyes followed the sound of noise - the slide door to the backyard had opened. an amusing look was on your face when you realized who it was.
“fleming, what a surprise to see you here.” your voice rang out, catching her by surprise, in doing so the freckled girl had misplaced her step, causing her to fall.
a small oof was heard, as you frantically shot up, holding your hand out for her to grab. the midfielder did, as you pulled her up.
“i should be saying that to you, l/n. you took a 5 hour drive, just for what, a frat party?” fleming’s voice was soft as you chuckled at her words.
“mallory had invited me, but tierna she’s - somewhere in the house.” you softly replied, as jessie hummed at your words.
“pugh? she’s been your teammate since the youth levels, right?” jessie had asked, as you nodded. the colorado player was someone you’ve gotten along with - it was like a low maintenance friendship, you didn’t have to talk all the time.
after that question, the air was filled with silence - the two of you had been enjoying each other’s presence.
“say, this party might not be your cup of tea - but would you perhaps want to ditch, and get ice cream?” you had asked, humbly waiting for the canadian’s response to which she nodded to. you had gotten up first, holding out your hand waiting for the canadian to grab - in which she did. you had led her through the crowd, the intertwined hands - the feeling that you never wanted to let go.
when the two of you had arrived outside, you turned around to check if she was alright, to which she was - however, her eyes were set on the interlocked fingers. shying away, you abruptly let go of her hand.
“since you’ve been studying here, baby canada lead the way.” a small hum was heard, catching your attention.
“baby canada?” the canadian had asked, as you paused in your tracks - did she not know of the nickname the fans had given her?
“well, since you made your debut for the senior team quite young, you had achieved the nickname baby canada.” the walk to the ice cream parlor was filled with random stories you had talked about - solely football related.
“you know, you’re basically eating toothpaste, right?” you looked at her bewildered, at the fact she called mint chocolate chip ice cream - toothpaste.
“it is not.”
“it is.”
“is not”
“whatever floats your boat, l/n.” she softly chuckled, and you swore - it made your heart skip a beat. the walk back to the house was filled with silence, the two of you were simply enjoying each other’s presence.
you felt your phone vibrating in your pocket, as you quickly fished it out. it was a call from tierna, you looked to jessie as she nodded, giving her an apologetic smile - you swiped the green button.
“where are you?”
“i’m out with a friend, we had just gotten ice cream.”
“well, i believe we have to go now, y/n. the drive back to uni will take long.”
“alright, i’ll meet you in front of the house in a few minutes”
“don’t take too long, or else the others will have my head.” tierna teased, as you chuckled at her words. the call had ended, as you turned to jessie, her eyes were set on the moon - it was pretty.
“it’s pretty, isn’t it?” you had asked her, you weren’t looking at the moon - instead you were watching her, admire the moon.
“that’s true.”

Leyland Cecco at The Guardian:
Until just a few weeks ago, it was an exhilarating time to be a Conservative in Canada. After nearly 10 years of Liberal rule, a deepening cost of living crisis had soured public support for Justin Trudeau and his shop-worn government. The Tory leader, Pierre Poilievre, had seized on a controversial carbon levy, and pledged to make the next federal vote an “axe the tax” election. Pollsters predicted his party would seize a convincing majority of seats. The country was on the cusp of a new Conservative era. And then Donald Trump suggested the US might take over Canada. The US president’s threats – ranging from “economic coercion” to outright annexation – have upended Canadian politics in a way few could have predicted. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday as he travelled to the Super Bowl game, Trump further escalated his rhetoric, claiming that Canada is “not viable as a country” without US trade, and warning that it can no longer depend on the US for military protection. For the last two years, any consideration of the future of Canada’s Liberal party had focused on the scale of its impending electoral loss. But in recent weeks, a series of polls have suggested that the Liberals have reversed their freefall. And a key factor in the party’s apparent resurrection has been Trump. Since Trump’s comments, Canada has seen a groundswell of visceral patriotism. Maga-style hats emblazoned “Canada Is Not for Sale” went viral. Canadians jeered visiting American sports teams, even during a children’s ice hockey tournament in Quebec City. “In this moment, we must pull together because we love this country,” Trudeau said in a recent speech in response to Trump’s threats. “We don’t pretend to be perfect, but Canada is the best country on earth. There’s nowhere else that I and our 41-million strong family would rather be, and we will get through this challenge just as we’ve done countless times before: together.” But for Poilievre, who had harnessed a populist current in the country and drawn comparisons with Trump, the avenues forward are less clear. The Conservative leader’s combative politics have served him well against Trudeau, but now appear to be faltering as nationalism supplants partisanship. One poll, from Ipsos, found the Conservatives had shed roughly 12 points of support within two weeks. Another survey in Quebec, from the firm Leger, found that if the Liberals put former central banker Mark Carney atop their ticket, the party vaulted far ahead of both the Conservatives and the separatist Bloc Québécois. A third, from the outfit Mainstreet, found the Liberals were tied – or even leading – among likely voters in the battle ground of Ontario.
Just a few weeks ago in Canada, the Liberal Party/Parti libéral du Canada was in very dire straights to the point whether they would have to fight to be the Official Opposition. Now, with the replacing of PM Justin Trudeau to lead the party and Donald Trump’s bullying tactics threatening annexation that has galvanized almost all Canadians to fight for the Maple Leaf, the Liberals have a serious chance to form government (either a minority or majority).

Honest to a fault, will tell on herself for doing something she shouldn’t have, she tells on herself when she eats 4 Oreos instead of the 2 you and Jessie said she could have
she’s even honest with both of you as a teenager
Tells you when she’s going to a party, tells you about boys and girls she likes (identifies as bi once she’s a teenager), sometimes she overshares and forgets that you’re her parents not her best friends
The opposite of a picky eater which makes life just that much easier for you and Jessie
You made her “kid friendly” meals when she was younger but she would always eye up your or Jessie’s plate and ask to try everything, you both got tired of her eating half your meal so you make her what you eat now
Hates playing soccer
you and Jessie try her in every activity possible to find what she does like, basketball, hockey, dance, art classes, golf, running
She ends up loving ice hockey like a stereotypical Canadian, plays it her whole life (future PWHL player)
Puts a hyphenated last name on her jersey when she’s a professional, even though you took Fleming as your last name, Emery wants to make sure you’re on her jersey too
Takes after her Mama and captains the Canadian Women’s hockey team
Is an ideal baby and perfect toddler which leads you and Jessie to have baby #2, who is the opposite of Emery and is a wild child

Canada’s Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland has resigned in a blow to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who is facing declining approval ratings and opposition from within his own party, as well as the prospect of a trade war with the United States. In her resignation letter, which was posted on X on Monday, Freeland revealed that Trudeau had informed her last week that he no longer wanted her to serve in the role and would instead offer her another cabinet position.

I’ve been seeing this a lot on social media so I just want to make this clear before the meme becomes what a lot of people believe:
Justin Trudeau is NOT resigning because Trump is threatening to annex Canada.
The decision to step down has absolutely nothing to do with spray-tanned Hitler and people need to stop joking about it like it does.
Our own politics being a clusterfuck aside, it is becoming increasingly worrying that Trump continues to double down on his threat to take over Canada, to the point where he will do it just so he doesn’t look like an idiot who’s all talk and no action. And implying that he has enough sway over us that he scared our leader off really does not help the situation.
Trudeau did not have good timing on this, I will admit. But things were not looking great for him and this was the only way to buy us a little time before our own smarmy little populist takes over. It was obvious that Trudeau did not want to leave, but after months of watching his popularity fall and all of the opposition leaders gunning for his job - at literally THE WORST time for us to be going through a power struggle - he made the tough call to step aside.
He also isn’t gone right away: his party needs to pick a new leader and then he’ll go. He’s still our Prime Minister for now. We haven’t been left abandoned in the snow to wait helplessly for President Orange to snatch us up.
This all may seem funny because it’s so absurd, but I can assure you we’re not laughing here in Canada

How well-known do you think Bernier is?
Take my outsider perspective with a grain of salt, but I think Poilivre went viral so many times that "anti-establishment" Canadians think he's their guy.
Youtuber CGP Grey has an (I think) insightful video about taking over a country. His argument is that any "new" leader has to toe a fine line between appealing to the people wanting change and the ancien regime wanting to maintain their hold. I 100% see that with that callout you made on PP being a Trudeau 2.0 despite the viral parliament debates between the two.
I think the establishment ran out of branding on Trudeau, and are passing the torch on to Poilivre.
If Bernier is a true "voice of the people", I think Canadian parliament (and foreign actors) is united on shutting him out.
What say you?
Bernier isn't well known, the media doesn't advertise any political opposition to the current paradigm, it's why you know the Conservative party will go along with the Liberal party's vision for Canada.
I agree with you, Bernier can't win, there is no political choice in Canada, the media is government owned, the establishment knows Canadians don't look beyond the surface when paying attention to politics.
Most don't even look at the platform any politician runs on in Canada, only paying attention to aesthetics, and posturing.
Most don't even remember that Trudeau was elected to change our first past the post system, they seem to only remember weed, and that they like his face, that's it.
Canada stopped having free and fair elections decades ago, only cemented further when Trudeau bought the independent media for the government in 2017.

This is why the west is seeing a backlash against the TQ+.
By Amy Hamm November 10, 2024
Trans activists in British Columbia, Canada, are demanding that a law which prevents dangerous convicted criminals from changing their legal names be repealed immediately.
Social justice legal group West Coast LEAF issued a press release, signed by numerous trans activist groups and organizations, demanding the change on November 7. In their letter, the groups claim that the province’s legislation “harms those most in need of legal name changes, including transgender people, Indigenous people, and survivors of gender-based violence.”
They also state that the “name change ban interferes with the human rights of transgender people to use their chosen names.” In addition to repealing the name-change ban, the groups are also demanding greater access to name change services, and “dignity” for the transgender community.
The legislation at issue is the province’s Name Act, which was amended earlier this year in response to public outcry over child-killer Allan Schoenborn being permitted to change his legal name, followed by a failed campaign to keep his new name hidden from the public.
Schoenborn murdered his three children, aged five, eight, and 10, in 2008. While he was found guilty of first-degree, pre-meditated murder, a judge ruled he was not criminally responsible due to mental illness. Schoenborn is currently eligible for 28-day leaves from the forensics hospital where he is serving his sentence, and may eventually be released into transitional housing in the community. Schoenborn does not identify as transgender.
The 2024 amendment to the BC Name Act ensures that all persons convicted of serious violent offences, or offences against children—even if they are found not criminally responsible—cannot obtain legal name changes. The legislation was proposed by the now-defunct BC United Party, which was the official opposition to the ruling New Democratic Party, under premier David Eby.
Eby held a sizable majority government at the time, but now holds the slimmest possible majority with a strong Conservative Party opposition.
Despite the obvious safety risk posed to the public by enabling men like Schoenborn to hide behind new aliases, BC’s trans activists believe that it is more important for transgender persons with violent criminal histories to have their gender identities affirmed.
If these activists have their way, criminals like Adam Laboucan, also known as Tara Desousa, would be able to hide their past by making quick and easy legal name changes. Laboucan, a trans-identified male and baby rapist, was the youngest criminal in Canadian history to be designated a “dangerous offender.” His crimes, which also include murdering a toddler, have been documented extensively by Reduxx. Laboucan currently resides in a female prison, with a mother-baby program, in British Columbia. Had his transfer to female prison gone unreported, it is plausible that Laboucan—if ever released from prison—would be able to enjoy anonymity and hide his violent, depraved criminal past from unsuspecting future victims.
Adrienne Smith, a female lawyer who uses they/them pronouns, also signed on to West Coast LEAF’s demands to reverse changes to the Name Act. In a statement included in their press release, Smith wrote that, for trans-identified persons, “[o]ur chosen names are human rights… This change [to the Name Act] hurts people standing farthest from justice, because it essentially sentences trans people to permanent deadnaming. That is unlawful, and it is wrong. Everyone should be entitled to the basic dignity of a name.”
Smith is the litigation director at CWHWC Trans Legal Clinic, a business that provides pro-bono legal services to “Two-Spirit, transgender and gender non-conforming people.” In addition to helping trans-identified persons obtain legal name changes, they also offer free hormone and surgery readiness assessments.
Another signatory, Didi Dufresne, a female who uses he/they/she pronouns, is the director of legal services for the non-profit QMUNITY. Dufresne asserted that the amendments to the Name Act are a throwback to laws that once criminalized homosexuality. “The criminal offenses listed include charges historically used to criminalize queer sex (like gross indecent, incident acts, exposure); charges related to sex work which are constitutionally suspect, and a number of non-violent offenses like breaking and entering or trespassing at night,” Dufresne wrote.
Other signatories include the Canadian Bar Association (BC Branch), PACE Society (which receives federal and provincial government funding), the Society for Advocacy for Gender-Affirming Healthcare, and the Union of BC Indian Chiefs.
In 2019, West Coast LEAF member Devyn Cousineau presided over the BC Human Rights Tribunal Jessica Yaniv hearings, in which trans-identified Yaniv sued female estheticians for refusing to wax his testicles. Cousineau referred to the waxing of trans-identified male testicles as “critical gender affirming care.”
Premier David Eby has not issued a public response to the demand letter
