"Harris is Black and Indian American. When asked if he agreed with comments from some Republicans who claim Harris has political power because of “diversity, equity and inclusion,” Trump falsely suggested Harris has changed how she discussed her racial identity.
“She was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage,” Trump said. “I didn't know she was Black until a number of years ago, when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black. So I don't know, is she Indian or is she Black?"
Harris is a member of a historically Black sorority, attended Howard University, one of the most prominent historically Black colleges in the country, and was a member of the Congressional Black Caucus when she was a U.S. senator from California."

i know this is old news but like. it is so fucking insane to me that convicted felons — who can qualify in every other way, citizens who are absolutely affected by elections and politics — are not allowed to vote in the united states. like that alone is fucking crazy. and fucked up and VERY intentional and on track for the usa. but still genuinely crazy to actually think about.
but worse is that donald mother god damn fucking trump can still run for president and could be elected while being a convicted felon. like. bro can't vote for himself i guess. but this guy could still legally become the fucking president. HE CANT LEGALLY VOTE IN ELECTIONS ANYMORE. BECAUSE HE IS A CONVICTED FELON.
BUT HE COULD LEGALLY BECOME THE HEAD OF STATE.
#like whatttttt the fuck what the fuck#im celebrating today just like everyone else#hallelujah thank you jesus i am so incredibly grateful that he is guilty and being sentenced#we SHOULD all celebrate this#rich politician actually getting convicted is dope#and the fact that hes the FIRST former president to EVER get convicted of crimes is INSANE#i forget that bc everyone knows about shit like watergate. but like nixon wasnt actually convicted of jack shit.#so this is a big deal and worth celebrating.#but also i canNOT stop thinking about this#this is so incredibly fucked up to me i cannot get past it#politics#donald trump#donald trump conviction#united states#election 2024

i fucking knew americans were dumb
edit: i have found out thru tiktok that books such as ‘great gatsby’ ‘handmaidens tale’ ‘to kill a mockingbird’ ‘lord of the flies’ and such are going to be banned in the us and the white house is demanding a recount/revote. those of you who are in usa, do what you can do, stock up on your medications if you can, engage in community that you’re a part of, create a safe space for yourself and those you know. learn about legal issues and ways to protect yourself if the project 2025 does end up happening, educate yourselves on legal rights and your human basic rights and which law protects it in which way. this may have disappeared in the tags but if you support trump or have voted for that thing get THE FUCK off of my blog
second edit: those of you who gave your votes thru an email or online voting, CHECK YOUR EMAIL AND MAKE SURE YOUR EMAIL IS TRACEABLE. there has been news of emails being unable to be found, identified or traced back to yourself. check and check again. if there are any issues, file a complaint

“hey international followers” yeah you also fucked us over lmfao. you brought this on yourself. we are terrified because of you. we hate americans for a reason.
going to throw a wild idea at you, bud
are you ready
there were. two whole candidates. in the election
and with two candidates, you can...vote for one or the other! meaning that- bear with me here -not every single voter voted for the same guy! sometimes not even the guy who won! some Americans voted for- no! can it be?! -the other candidate, and are now terrified ourselves!
please try to contain your surprise!
(is the sarcasm coming through here. is it.)

I walked into work this morning after crying at a convivence store because the woman behind the counter said she liked my RBG sweatshirt and she hoped I was okay. I wasn't expecting it. I live in a very red part of Michigan and her kindness and gentleness made me cry.
I told myself when I woke up that I wasn't going to cry. I stared at my phone for twenty minutes, dread pooling in my chest because even though I let myself get hopeful yesterday, I knew what I was going to see.
I said I wasn't going to cry.
And when I got to work, one of the other preschool teachers walked into my classroom, and she didn't say anything, we just looked at each other and I started to cry. I had parents who I knew were happy with the results about to drop off their kids and I couldn't start crying, but I did.
I only have nine kids in my class, I only had to get through seven drop offs today. I only had three parents that were devastated. I cried about that too.
I had two little girls in my class today, and they got into an argument, as two years old's will do, and they both got upset and started crying. One of them laid on the floor next to me, and one of them collapsed onto my chest, and I cried with them too.
During group time today, I cried while reading a book about kindness. "What does it mean to be kind? Being kind means standing up for those who are less fortunate than you." I had to stop reading for a minute. My assistant teacher looked at me from across the room and I couldn't meet her eyes.
I stayed off social media all day, but when I caved and opened tik tok, the first video I saw was of women in other countries governments saying that they were standing with us through this hard thing and I cried again.
I think I'm gonna keep crying. At least for today and the next couple of days.
And tomorrow (which may not actually be tomorrow) I'll figure out what comes next.
#mine#not hp#i cried while writing this#if you voted for trump fuck off#if you didn't vote at all fuck off#i may be crying a lot but I'm also angry#how often do I bitch about people hating women in fandom?#if you scroll there's a post about it like three down from here#i feel stupid for being hopeful#i really thought people were done with his bs#that they would vote for her#also idk what this is some personal essay or something#i hid a lot of tears from my babies today

It's a bad day, and I've been dragging my heels on this. But, I got a bunch of neat new TTRPG stuff in October, so here's what landed in my mailbox.
Break!! - A few years ago, I stumbled on some art on Twitter. It was fun, it was vibrant, and it felt inviting. I wanted to know more, looked into the artist, and discovered it was spot art for an upcoming RPG called Break!! So, I kept an eye on it. The book is beautiful, well laid-out, and really cool, so maybe one good thing came from Twitter*.
The Electric State - Tales from the Loop and Things from the Flood have been pretty high on my "To Play" lists for years. A follow-up, set in a similar (or the same?) world was kind of an instant pickup. Not as interested in the movie, but the game seems pretty rad.
The Geologist's Primer - I picked up the Herbalist's Primer when it came out, and was really impressed with the quality and care that went into it, so when I saw "That but for rocks" was in the works, I was definitely already in. Also excited for the follow up "Mushrooms next time".
Starkhollow Hall - I accidentally fell into a Gothic Fiction kick over Spooky Month, so the timing of this was perfect. I don't know a ton about the GUMSHOE system, but I do feel like what I know about it makes it a perfect fit for the genre. Gothic heroines (and I guess heroes) are at their best when they know there's a dangerous mystery at the heart of what's happening around them, and go looking for it anyway.
Forsaken - Kyle Tam is, honestly, a designer to watch. I picked this up because it was part of an Afterthought Committee project, which is a team I've also really enjoyed work from (my game Water Landing is built off of their game Cast Away). Does a better job of establishing a sort of grimdark/Soulsbourne vibe than some stuff that explicitly tries to.
Iron Edda Reforged - The pitch for this caught me immediately: Cyberpunk Norse Mythology. Tracy Barnett is another Designer to Watch, and I really like all of their stuff--haven't played the original Iron Edda, but have heard it on Party of One and really dug it. Was really hyped to see this come into being.
Electrum Archive v2 - I went through a Weird Sci-Fi phase this year, and the original Electrum Archive was an early pick for it. I really loved the world, the way each class worked differently, and the magic/currency/MacGuffin that it used. Obviously I wanted more, because the second book is here.
Alice is Missing - Silent Falls - My friends and I have been talking about the prospect of another Alice is Missing game since playing the first one about two years ago. It was a really memorable experience, partly due to the game's really compelling design, and to some of the in-moment decisions we made (I played the facilitator character, who starts the game having returned after a long absence, and another player immediately got pissed at them for sorta abandoning the group. it created an interesting play dynamic for the whole session)
Kill Him Faster - I picked up a previous Kovidae Games book as a lark: a collection of exercise-based RPGs. I nearly ignored their other stuff, but this had a pretty compelling pitch: What if time-travel was invented mostly so people could speedrun murdering Hitler. Since Eat the Reich came out, I've thought a bit about Hitler Revenge Fantasy as a genre, and honestly, I'm kinda into it. He was a loser, and deserves to be reduced to a video game villain and killed over and over again; so, yeah. Let's kill him faster next time.
Splat (issue 5) - I'm not usually one for essays and interviews, but this is a zine featuring and by some folks I really like and respect, and this one is packed with thoughts about the state of the indie TTRPG scene and industry from a diverse and immensely talented group. It's honestly a must-read.
(Already getting a few things for the next edition, but also feeling too garbage after the Clusterfuck Election to think about doing anything else today...)
---
footnote: * Technically, two good things came from Twitter. I also once expressed sorrow that I'd missed out on a limited T-shirt from a web comic artist that said "Sorry, Glenn, the only Beck I listen to has two turntables and a microphone", and the creator saw it and had an extra in my size.
#indie ttrpg#ttrpg dev#ttrpg#monthly ttrpg mail call#trying to find something fun to be excited about today#because I'm otherwise so pissed about the state of the US that I can't really think about anything else#fuck trump

little rant, came to the realization today that when I eventually get married my mom definitely will not go. I don’t know why that hurts as much as it does. I’ve always known, like I’ve known for years and thought that I internalized it, but it’s just becoming more of a reality. I’m not even close to her but wow it sucks :)
#me begging my parents to just not vote for Trump went about as well as one can expect#as someone who isn’t even a fan of Kamala but terrified at the idea of another Trump presidency#not even like with me in mind…but mainly my brother#how do you as a parent of a disabled child decide to vote for a man who said that all Americans with disabilities should just die#how do you look him in the eyes after and say that it was the right decision#like the homophobia I’m used to at this point and it’s painful but knowing that not even the ableist shit is enough to stop it#I’m just very sad and exhausted and as much as I wish I personally had different parents#I really wish my brother had parents that were able to put him first#I’ll probably delete later today I’m just so sad and it’s a very painful thing to be grieving as stupid as it may sound#it’s also 10x more challenging wanting to just cut them off forever but losing my brother in the process idk#I look at people with parents who are either not voting or voting blue and aren’t crazy homophobes and I wonder what that is like#like she won’t be there for dress fittings or anything and I’m not even like engaged but damn

Germany Should Have Listened to Trump
Tuesday 2.27.2024 Wall Street Journal
By Walter Russell Mead
Trump was right about Berlin’s self-defense and risky energy dependence on Russia.
The lower house of Germany’s Parliament voted to legalize the recreational use of cannabis last week. It was a timely move. Germany’s leadership class is going to need all the mellow it can find in a world that isn’t going Germany’s way.
Russian advances in Ukraine and American paralysis over the next aid package are reinforcing the reality that Germany needs to defend itself but lacks the power to do so. So are developments in the Red Sea, where German manufacturers must cope with shipping delays as the Biden administration fails to keep the vital waterway clear.
Forget the 2% of gross domestic product that Germany has repeatedly promised and failed to spend on defense. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius shocked many observers this month when he said that in the new world situation, Germany may have to spend as much as 3.5% of GDP for defense.
The economic news is also grim. Last year Germany’s GDP shrank 0.3%, and last week the government slashed 2024 growth estimates to a pitiful 0.2%. Economists expect negative growth during the first quarter of 2024, placing the country in recession. The outlook for housing is bleak, with business confidence reaching all-time lows. The news in manufacturing is little better. This month the widely followed HCOB German Flash Composite Purchasing Managers’ Index fell to 46.1, the eighth month in a row that the index has pointed to decreasing economic activity.
Energy prices are a particular sore spot. The chemical giant BASF announced €1 billion in spending cuts in its German operations, blaming a mix of weak demand in the German market and “structurally higher energy prices.” Enormous U.S. subsidies under the so-called Inflation Reduction Act are leading German companies to look across the Atlantic.
Chinese competition is another massive worry. China long ago passed Germany as the world’s largest car producer. Increasingly, especially in electric vehicles, it is challenging Germany as both a low-cost and high-quality manufacturer. Beijing aims to marginalize German capital goods and automobile companies in China while Chinese exporters challenge German dominance in world markets.
With the associations representing the small and medium-size Mittelstand firms that make up the heart of the German economy warning in a rare joint open letter about Germany’s loss of competitiveness, Economy Minister Robert Habeck isn’t mincing words. The economy is in “rough waters.” The “competitiveness of Germany as an industrial location” is in doubt.
It isn’t all doom and gloom. The outlook for the service sector is brighter than for manufacturing, and as the Journal reported last week, the Ifo Institute’s business-climate index improved slightly this month. The best that can be said for the outlook? “The German economy is stabilizing at a low level,” according to Ifo’s president.
Meanwhile, Germany’s dysfunctional three-party coalition government is paralyzed by internal struggles. The largest party in the coalition, Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Social Democratic Party (SPD), is deeply divided over foreign policy, with many nostalgic for good relations with Russia and allergic to military spending. The SPD also wants Biden-like government spending initiatives to revive the German industrial machine and expand social benefits. The Greens, the next-largest party, are by German standards foreign-policy hawks but continue to press for a rapid energy transition that drives up costs for business and consumers. The third party in the coalition, the Free Democrats, wants to hold the line on government spending. As if this weren’t enough trouble, the conservative opposition parties have a blocking minority in Parliament’s upper house.
This is not where Germans thought they would be. Sixteen months ago, I visited Berlin and heard from a stream of government officials, think tankers and economists that everything was working fine. Russia was failing in Ukraine. The energy transition would boost German competitiveness and employment. Germany’s Mittelstand would handle anything China could throw at it.
Under the circumstances, it’s no surprise that antiestablishment parties are growing in Germany. The far right Alternative for Germany (AfD) currently has more support than any of the governing parties, with one recent poll showing the AfD at 19%, the Social Democrats at 14%, the Greens at 13%, and the Free Democrats at 4%.
The most bitter pill of all for Germany’s establishment may be the realization that on the most important issues facing Germany, Donald Trump was right where they were wrong. Getting in bed with Vladimir Putin for cheap energy was both foolish and deeply disloyal to the West. German defense policy was self-defeating and dangerous. China wasn’t a reliable partner.
“Ich bin ein Berliner,” was President John F. Kennedy’s message to Germany. If Donald Trump returns to the White House, his message will likely be “Das habe ich gleich gesagt,” or “I told you so.”

the reason i find it impossible to sympathise with rhaenyra's cause, her version of 'creating a new order' is that... theres no evidence she actually would. nothing in her actions to suggest she cares about ordinary women. shes not exactly alysanne reborn, she never once talks to an ordinary woman, let alone acknowledges ordinary people in general as deserving of her consideration. when shes younger she openly says she doesnt care what the smallfolk think or want. and, f&b spoilers: its what her ultimate downfall hinges on.
so no. no part of me believes rhaenyra would have necessarily changed the world in any kind of meaningful way. perhaps she could have evolved over time, she had the potential for it with the right influences i think, so who knows, but given whats established about her characterisation its not unfair for anyone to suggest she never would have changed other womens lives for the better despite transcending the limitations of her gender personally. so how is it anti-feminist to sympathise with alicents perspective? even if it were relevant, alicent had no reason to believe rhaenyra sitting the throne would mean any kind of legitimate progress, and she certainly doesnt oppose rhaenyra on the basis of her being a woman, she just understands how rhaenyras gender interacts with the poltical landscape of westeros. this is not ideological for alicent, its about survival. which is in stark contrast to rhaenyra whose original goal is just personal liberation.
hotd does position rhaenyra as the feminist choice with little visual things like her bringing baela and rhaena to the table, which might have been deliberate so they can later subvert that assumption or point out her hypocrisy later idk, but either way it just doesnt track with rhaenyra's wider actions or professions. yes the liberation she desires is a feminist goal but she primarily only cares about achieving it for herself. shes not daenerys. shes not an idealist. she doesnt plan to change the world from the ground up. and that isnt a crime, but its also not feminist its just personal ambition.
i know most fantasy stories that centre on a war lean toward portraying a clear dichotomy of good and evil with easy real world comparisons, but this doesnt. this is just not a story about ideology at all so assigning real world ideologies to fan factions or characters is so reductive. it immediately kills any kind of nuanced discussion.
