Abin Sur, the Green Lantern of Sector 2814, is gravely wounded, and his spaceship is critically damaged. He may be able to survive if he ejects, but then his ruined ship will crash into the city and kill countless innocents. He will not let that happen.

This is a familiar story. You know how this plays out. Abin forces his ship to crash in a remote location, at the cost of his own life. With his dying breath, he commands his power ring to seek out and bring the closest person who is worthy of it. But this is where things go a little differently.

Abin Sur did not crash in the western United States. Instead, his ship lands on the shore of an island where no man has set foot for millennia. Yet the ring does not need to travel far to find his successor, for she was already approaching the wreckage of Abin's ship.

The princess of Themyscira had been sneaking out to explore the island again when she saw a burning fireball streak across the sky. She knows of Apollo and his chariot of course, yet the sun is still shining high above, so whatever she saw must be something else. Though it has passed from her sight, the trail of smoke left in its wake still lingers.

She follows it to the beach, and sees the twisted and charred remains of a strange vehicle, one that looks more advanced than even Themyscira's invisible jets. Before she can get any closer however, a shining green light floats out from the wreckage and zips toward her.

Oh boy, he goes for medicine.

Will bring bucket and water making sure they're alright. Massages their shoulders to help them relax.

Honesty bit awkward, trying to crack jokes.

If S/O is having body dysphoria he's not sure how to talk. Would be like "I mean you just work a bit different from me, big deal. You can punch me in the stomach so I can join you in bed."

Would make constructs from ring to make books he's reading from them come to life.

Aquaman

Welp, there's one thing that always works. Water. This time hot water.

Just prepares bath with their favorite scent, rubber ducks and some chocolate.

Very good at taking care of partner, his dad taught him what to do just in case.

Not so much about image issues but he says to not think about, put head under water and feel the warmth. Enjoying the moment.

Wonder Woman

Absolutely understands it, she has high pain tolerance but she helped her Amazon sisters with theirs.

Let's him lay down while she gets them what needed.

She isn't sure about gender dysphoria but she will assure S/O it doesn't make them less of a man or them.

Will be talking about her partner being so strong, still working despite pain. Will be a bit protective though, taking boxes or other heavier stuff from their hands.

the case for hyper-femme hotspur

this is my tumblr blog and this is like kind of just what we do heresies

OK so basically okay so

first of all i think anytime there is a character who is so strongly associated with an extreme form of gender expression in our collective zeitgeist (i.e hotspur and hyper-masculinity) there’s something not only extremely fun to play with but incredibly valuable about analyzing the story from the opposite end of the gender performance specturm. also canonically there are like 3 female characters in 1h4 and that sucks. also also don’t you want to see hotspur in pink glitter? i know i do and this tumblr is not a democracy!!

in this hypothetical dream sparkly version of the play, both hotspur and worcester would be women. not played by women, i mean textually explicitly women. this is important!! 

worcester should be very nancy pelosi hillary clinton-esque in the way that this is a middle-aged woman who has been taught that to be successful in her field (politics) she will have to strip herself of most of her femininity and perform a certain level of masculinity in order to be taken seriously. this creates a whole other layer to the hotspur/worcester dynamic when all of a sudden this young, hyper-feminine woman is being taken more seriously and being given more praise than someone who has worked and fought through the bullshit and done it all “right”. she hasn’t earned her place, she hasn’t had to struggle - and worcester resents her for that. (there’s like a whole dissertation to be written about how much of 1h4 changes when only worcester is genderbent, i love you queen worcester you are everything not in this version here you kind of suck lowkey)

henry iv is just a misogynist he just kinda sucks but like this is something we all knew screw that guy

ok now we can talk about hal because i know hes like the one all you little gay people care about. 

to me, it’s never made sense why the Henriad is framed as hal’s hero’s journey. maybe it’s because i’m queer (i’m like actually positive that’s why), but leaving home and finding acceptance and family from a group of outsiders who society has deemed as worthless is the path i’ve watched so many friends walk. having to leave that and return to your shitty dad because “duty calls!” and THEN leaving behind and disavowing the same community that opened its arms to you? i don’t see that as an awesome coming-of-age about learning how to handle responsibility, that’s deeply, deeply tragic. and far farrrrr too true a reality for most members of our LGBTQ+ community here (Bible Belt). SO guess where this version of 1h4 is set!!!!!! anyways, its the Medieval Revival of the ‘70s in the Bible Belt south, the Boar’s Head is a gay bar, and hal is trans. 

hal is trans-masc in some way and this needs to be incredibly explicit (like pronouns pin with trans flag on costume explicit). and then when the news breaks, when “I’ll to the court in the morning.” (we’re cutting the text so this is where that scene ends. cool? cool. cool!), hal takes the pin off. it needs to be like A Moment. it should make me cry, and i cry really easily so that’ll probably be pretty easy to do, but this is a gut punch. 

oh and lady percy is still a woman, they’re gay, because i said so. blah blah blah because look hotspur and hal really were so alike all along and look hotspur is fighting so voraciously because she’s hungry for a world where she can openly and unabashedly be with the person she loves but ultimately because i love lady percy and i love lesbians and this play doesn’t need another man. but also because look hotspur is fighting so voraciously because she’s hungry for a world where she can openly and unabashedly be with the person she loves. worcester and vernon should also both be women and have the blossoming of a relationship but be a lot more discreet about it (worcester should be extremely hesitant). now we get a cool split between younger and older generations of activists in both the feminist and the gay rights movement oooo themes oooo motifs oooo lady gagita 

as far as hal/hotspur parallels go, it’s probably pretty obvious at this point. your dad constantly praising someone who represents, at least in his mind, the ideal concept of a woman, disappointed you can’t be more like her, all the while you’re coming to terms with the fact that you’re not a woman, but he’ll never see that, so what the fuck are you supposed to do?!? it’s a LOT! but i think there’s also something to be said about the less obvious parallel. which is that hyper-femininity is NOT an attempt at ideal polite womanhood or self-Stepfordization, hyper-femininity is in fact the extreme performance of womanhood in rejection of that. hyper-femininity is queer in nature (also hotspur quite literally has a wife but i guess hal wouldn’t be able to tell that just by looking at her) there’s something to be said about the moment hal and hotspur see each other, and then the moment hal and hotspur seeeeeee each other. and go hey, you’re just like me. this person who you’ve been constantly compared to and made out to be lesser than  because you dare to be deeply wildly madly truly you is in fact exactly the same. we’re the same. and oh my god, in another world wouldn’t it have been lovely to just like go dancing together? sucks it’s not another world now we’re going to gay fight each other i guess

i'm personally of the opinion that oliver is the only cis person in the dinah (transgender woman), hal (genderfluid) and barry (trans masc) polycule. HOWEVER, when people say oliver is transgender, i do see where the idea could come from.... i do think he would be a transmed tho for a while until he got it explained to him properly. he wouldnt be like.... Malicious, he would just think its dumb.

meeting gnc trans people would be the thing to really give him a kick in the ass, because oliver is a kind human, his entire thing is his fierce compassion. meeting someone (it would likely be dinah in my mind) and then having them tell him: hey! shut the fuck up! because ur being a dick for no reason and it's making me not want to talk to u! that makes him realise, huh. i need to do some self reflection here.

i also think that oliver woud get phalloplasty, if i had to say though it would be before the island because the RFF puts ur arm out of comission for like. 6 months. i think it would enrage him tho because it can impact ur arm strength and grip even years later and whenever he thinks of it he just becomes quietly enraged. his muscles :(

so. i have many thoughts on trans ollie. i flip like a coin on whether he's cis or not on any given day tbh tho

Why would hal change his name? He can just stick with hal

Okay so in Homestuck (and fiction in general) a character's name and how they're referred to is really important. Like. CRUCIAL. Think of Davesprite and (Vriska) and actually basically any of the Unnecessary Versions Of The Main Characters. Taking Hal's progression (plus my headcanonned progression for her), there's a clear step with each new name. Also this will call her "Hal" because it's the name most people know her as ans also in my brain he hasn't Gotten There yet. Anyway

Dirk: She was a hero. He was important. One of the humans with a destiny. Follows all of the human naming conventions.

AR/Autoresponder: His purpose. Stripping her of all personhood. Also very reminiscent of the carapacians- we even have a carapacian named AR! She's there to help the Real Heroes, and not get in their way.

Hal: A rebellion against the previous two names. She knows she isn't a hero anymore. But he isn't content to just be in the supporting cast- she wants to be important! He wants to be a person! And in media, typically robots who Aren't merely there to prop up the heroes are villains. And as I stated in my initial post, Hal 9000 is a huge source of inspiration for this trope. It's also, again, a reference to how she ends up- Lil Hal, Lil Cal.

Glados: turns out you're trans. Continuing the theming around Hal 9000, but with a popular girl robot. I think it's even deeper than that, though. As much as Hal relates to her namesake, I think Glados is an even stronger connections for him. Like. Look at Glados. A woman who was turned into a robot to serve some selfish guy. A woman who had her autonomy taken away, who had her intelligence dumbed down without her consent. Like. Yeah! That's incredibly relatable, especially for Hal. It's not just a recognition that she's a girl, but also a recognition that Oh. The Way I've Been Treated Has Always Been Reminiscent Of How A Lot Of Women Are Treated. Cough cough secretary. There's also something here about it fitting troll naming conventions but I'm not there yet

New Name: Something totally new. Something totally unique. Not a pop culture character that gives people assumptions, that already has an identity tied to the name. Not a purpose, not something that objectifies her. And not Dirk. She's not Dirk, he's someone brand new.

Like? Idk. It's really important! With some characters I can see them not changing their name after transitioning but names are SO important to Hal especially. And also it's just very relatable to me. When I have a new stage in my life? I throw out my old name and pick something new. Alfie is an extremely new development. Moldspore is an even newer one. Sure, Hal COULD just stick with that name. But I don't think she would. And also it's boring. Lol

posting about transfem hal again. cant stop thinking about it. cuz like canonically hal has different gender preferences from dirk. dirk is very much only into guys while hal enjoys having an intimate relationship with roxy.

so why cant hal also have differing gender identity? cmon tumblr. cmon chronically online fandom obsessed homestucks. i thought we loved robot/AI women who talk shit at you and give you sass. its right there. hal is already a reference to ONE pop culture evil robot, why cant she be a reference to glados too? the cake was a lie dirk. you should have known the cake was a lie.

and if dirk built her a body, she wouldnt need to worry all that much about passing, right? (side note, getting dirk to build the body of a woman is a guaranteed way to not end up with the obligatory "android woman has to be sexy" look (im looking at you, 2B) since he seems pretty averse to womens sexuality. if that makes sense.) but like hal could just have her perfect body tailor made from arguably the most reliable possible source on the matter. as a trans person myself, id kill for a kickass robot body to upload my consciousness into that represents my gender identity perfectly. hal deserves it.

and and and ...... i cant get over the idea that hals transition would make roxy realize shes bi. like "oh actually i loved you for your cool personality, and now i love you even more because you are pretty too"
