Hello! I understand that naming characters can be difficult, I also understand that when we create AU's in which a character is trans or hiding and need to create a deadname/fake name it can be a struggle. HOWEVER-

When it comes to naming Black OC's or giving characters like Sirius and Regulus genderbent/deadnames I will not take any excuses for things like "Siriana" and "Regina". That is about the only family in canon who already HAS a naming convention, and yes, I realise not all of them follow it. However most DO.

So! For your perusal, I have taken the liberty of spending two weeks of my life scrolling Wikipedia to find a list of constellations, star names and star nicknames that could be used instead! Please use them I beg of you.

As a helpful guide, any names already used in canon are starred. Any names that MIGHT be used in canon (it's been ages since I've read the actual books, forgive me if I've missed any) are double starred.

It was weird seeing Andromeda again. Sirius remembered her as a giggling teenage girl. Bella, Cissy and her used to only care about parties, makeup and boys. Sirius had found them annoying most of the time. It had been fun to prank them with Reggie.

Andromeda was always Bella’s shadow. She was calm, and shy and never said anything important. Sirius was chaotic and a rebel. They didn't have anything in common.

That was until Andromeda ran away three years ago. It was surprising to Sirius that Andromeda would do something like that. He had expected something from Bella who was scary and strong, or even Cissy with her drama and obsession with her stupid boyfriend. But not from Andromeda.

She left Rodolphus Lestrange on the altar and ran away with a random bloke. Sirius had thought at the time that it was cool. He admired anything that opposed The Black Family. But he didn't understand what it had meant for Andromeda. The sacrifice she had made. Everything she went through.

Andromeda was a mature woman now. She seemed more confident and happy. And she gave Sirius the wise aurea that Alphard used to give him. She was quick in making conversation with Reggie and him. And she looked so comfortable with Ted. But there was sadness in her eyes sometimes. Something like longing.

Ted was a cool lad. Musician, a rock fan. He had a childish spirit that reminded Sirius of James and he was so much open than Andy. And it was clear that he loved her.

It was lovely to see how they looked at each other, how they held hands everytime they sat down.

Ted and Andromeda were also expecting a baby. And the news made them practically glow. Andromeda touched her belly every two seconds. And Ted looked at her with adoration.

They were truly in love. And now Sirius was understanding Andy's decision. He might be in love too.

Alphard's death had got him sentimental. The hypocrisy of the people at his funeral made Sirius sick, so he dragged Regulus to see Andromeda. He has been thinking a lot about her lately.

Andromeda cried when she heard the news about Alphard's death. Apparently nobody had told her about it. She wasn't invited to the funeral of course. But she wasn't resentful with her cousins. Her and Ted were being pretty nice.

"Tea, Anyone?" Andromeda asked as Ted finished telling them a funny story "I bet you are cold and hungry"

"Let me take care of it, love" Ted said as soon as Andromeda stood up. She seemed to be struggling with her big belly. She was 7 months pregnant.

"Don't worry, love" Andromeda smiled at him "Sirius can help me" she winked at him "In the meantime, you can show Regulus your toys downstairs... Did I tell you he is a musician as well?"

"Are you, mate?" Ted asked excitedly.

Regulus cleared his throat uncomfortably. "I used to play the piano"

Reggie used to love playing the piano when he was a kid. Sirius had lessons as well. But he got easily bored. While Regulus had daily practices that irritated Sirius. But he was constant. And he quickly became an expert. Regulus didn't play anymore. Sirius hadn't asked him why.

"That's cool" Ted smiled standing up "I have an electric piano downstairs... I know it's not the same, but you can show me how good you are"

"Oh Reggie is really good" Sirius smiled.

"Didn't he used to compose his own tunes?" Andromeda added.

"Yes"

"Wow, did you?"

Regulus blushed. He hated being the center of attention.

"I wrote some of my band's songs" Ted added "Maybe we can compose something together"

"I am a bit rusted..."

But Ted was already dragging him to his feet.

"Let's go, mate"

Regulus didn't have time to protest because Ted was already dragging him. Sirius smiled at his brother's expression.

Andromeda was already at the kitchen's door.

"Come on, Sirius"

"Yes ma'am" Sirius stood up and walked after her.

As Andromeda prepared tea, Sirius was assigned the job of putting the biscuits and sandwiches in a large plate. He was even taking his job seriously, making a colorful pattern.

Sirius and Andromeda were mostly silent as they worked. Sirius only answered a few questions about Hogwarts and teachers and how much things had changed. But there was mostly music that the boys were playing downstairs.

Sirius wanted to ask Andy so many things and he didn't know where to start.

Sirius could feel Andromeda's eyes on him.

"I heard you ran away..." she said, which made Sirius freeze "Something happened this summer?"

"Where did you hear that?"

"Uncle Alphard used to write to me..." Andy sighed "Keeping me updated with things about the family..."

Losing Alphard hurt. But Sirius couldn't make himself cry yet.

"He was worried about you but he couldn't come back from Rome to help you..."

"Did you know about him?" Sirius interrupted "About his parties... And his lovers?"

It had been after Alphard's death that people discovered his secret life. He hadn't told anyone. Not even Sirius.

The slurs and insults people at the funeral were whispering about Alphard for having men lovers, was still ringing through Sirius' ears. He didn't want to be called that as well.

"No, Sirius..." Andromeda answered carefully "I think nobody knew"

Sirius didn't answer. He knew people were connecting the dots. For his close relationship with his Uncle. And what had happened that summer. Sirius didn't know how much Andromeda knew. But based on the way she was looking at him, she suspected something.

Sirius felt embarrassed. Everything he had been doing with Remus. What he felt for him. It was all too embarrassing. Even though no one knew about Remus. Only Regulus. Sirius had felt Regulus' eyes on him the whole time. And that suffocated him enough to ran away from the ceremony.

"Sirius... Are you okay?" Andromeda asked "Do you want to talk about what happened this summer?"

"I am not like him!" Sirius yelled hitting the counter and making all the food lose its order.

Andromeda looked at him with concern.

"What do you mean?"

"I am not gay" Sirius spat.

What he felt for Remus didn't have to define his life. It didn't work that way. Sirius wasn't sure of anything.

"I didn't say you were" Andromeda raised an eyebrow. She sighed, placing a hand on Sirius' shoulder "I was just saying that if you feel like you want to live your life apart from The Family, it is fine. I did the same"

Sirius tried to relax. She was trying to be nice.

"I am The Heir" Sirius whispered.

He acted like he was a rebel that wouldn't hesitate on leaving his responsabilty behind and would give up to his inheritance. But Sirius was actually scared. That summer, he had decided that he didn't want to see his family anymore. But now he was back for Alphard's funeral. And everyone still treated him as The Heir. Someone that would grow up from his immature self and would become in what they wanted. Orion had told him he expected great things from him.

"You don't have to be, Sirius" Andromeda said "Are you coming back to Grimmauld Place?"

Sirius looked at her.

"What?"

"Regulus said it was one of your shows to piss everyone off again and that you eventually will come back"

Sirius snorted with disbelief.

"That tosser said that?" he shook his head angryly.

Andromeda smiled sympathetically.

"Of course, it is your choice at the end of the day" the water boiled and Andromeda took care of that but she continued speaking "When I left with Ted, I was terrified... I wasn't a rebel as you... But eventually I figured out it was the best decision...." Andy served the tea "I would've been miserable marrying Rod and having the life they wanted me to have"

"And you were in love with Ted?" Sirius asked.

"So in love" Andromeda smiled "I have to admit that that love made do crazy things I would've never imagined doing... But it was worthy"

"Yeah..."

Sirius thought of Remus. Would he be able to do that for him?

Andromeda giggled, taking Sirius out of his thoughts.

"Who is she?"

"What?"

"The girl that you've fallen for..."

Sirius felt shivers down his spine.

"How did you..." No. He couldn't finish that sentence.

"Wow... Someone finally won Sirius Black's heart" Andromeda laughed "I bet she is not someone The Black Family would approve, right?"

God... Sirius desperately wanted to share this with Andy. Perhaps he would have done that with Alphard if he was still alive. Andromeda could understand....

"He definitely isn't..." Sirius whispered, giving his attention to the biscuits again.

"Oh!" Andromeda exclaimed "I thought you say you weren't gay?"

She didn't sound disgusted. Like the rest of the family.

"I'm not!" Sirius spat. Andy raised an eyebrow "I don't what I am" he sighed.

Andromeda smiled.

"Oh Sirius..." she hugged him. Sirius was surprised "It's okay... Who is he, then?"

Sirius blushed. But he was more relaxed for Andromeda's good reaction.

"Why do you want to know?"

"I'm curious!" Andromeda shrugged as she laughed "At least tell me his name"

Sirius smiled, still with his cheeks on fire.

"Do you remember Rosie?"

"The girl you used to have a crush on when you were a kid?"

Why did everyone keep saying that?

"I didn't..." Sirius sighed "His name is Remus now"

"Oh" Andromeda nodded

"It's called transgender..."

"I know..." Andromeda chuckled "My friend Tammy is trans"

"Oh!" Sirius felt like an idiot. Being raised as a Black didn't precisely taught them those things. Perhaps Andromeda had learned lots of things with Ted.

Andromeda was smiling.

"That's lovely, Sirius" she said "You used to adore each other when you were kids"

Sirius found himself smiling at that thought. Remus and him used to be very close. They spent each minute of the day together. And they talked through walkie talkies at night until they fell asleep. Perhaps he had loved Remus since the first day they met. He just didn't know.

"Do you love him?" Andromeda asked with a smile.

"He makes me really happy" Sirius sighed "I feel so comfortable with him. But at the same time my heart is going to jump of my chest everytime he is around.... I like kissing and hugging him and touching his soft hair. I love the way he knows me like anybody else. I like his fierce but also his calmness. I like the way he puts me in my place when he needs to. I like the way he sees me. I love when he stares like I am the most precious thing but also like I am not just a pretty face. I love how good we are together... I don't know, I've never felt this way about anyone"

There were so much more things to say about Remus. But sometimes these feelings were difficult to explain. Sirius felt so many things. Most of them beautiful but many scary. .

"I am kind of terrified really"

And it was the first time, Sirius had said all of this out loud. He had been trying to fight against his feelings, tried to hide them away and act like it wasn't a big deal.

He didn't know why he had confessed all of this to Andromeda. Maybe because she understood, she felt the same for Ted.

Andromeda smiled "I get it" she said "I used to fight a lot with what I felt for Ted. I knew I wasn't supposed to fancy someone like him. But he made me really happy as well... As time passed, those feelings were so strong I just couldn't hide them.... Honestly, I didn't do a bad thing, I just fell in love" she sighed with tears in her eyes.

"I am sorry The Family was shitty to you" Sirius admitted "I am sorry I didn't do more... I should've written to you, taken your side..." he shook his head "They didn't let me... But I had to try..."

Andromeda squeezed his hand.

"It's okay, Sirius" she smiled "You are here now, aren't you? And I see you are no longer a boy... But a man"

Sirius tried to blink the tears away.

"Don't fight over your feelings for Remus" she added "Just let yourself feel"

Sirius shook his head "I am a mess... I am only going to fuck it up"

"I made Ted go through so much because of my family..." Andromeda said with a sad expression "It wasn't fair to him. But at least it was worthy. And he loved me so much to go through that. And accept every bit of me, even my wicked family..."

Sirius nodded. But it wasn't only his family. Sirius just didn't like himself so much. Sometimes his recklessness and temper scared him. He had made Remus go through so much already...

But he had to admit, it felt nice to find someone with just a similar experience. And to have Andromeda back in his life.

"I tell you, mate" Ted was saying as he and Regulus appeared at the door "You have a natural talent... You are so good... I would love you to be in my band"

"Reggie, a Rockstar?" Sirius asked, adopting his goofy self again "I don't see it"

That made Ted and Andromeda laugh. Regulus rolled his eyes.

"Not my type of vibe" he said "But thanks"

"Okay" Ted shrugged "But you shouldn't waist your talent. You should play again"

"I'll think about it"

Sirius saw Regulus considering it. That made him happy.

"Tea is ready..." Andromeda announced "Help me get all of this to the table" she said as he gave Ted a kiss on the cheek.

"Yeah sure"

As Ted and Reggie helped, Andromeda gave Sirius a smile and a wink. He smiled back.

It had felt nice to talk to his cousin again. They hadn't been particularly close before. But now they could be closer than ever. Alphard might have been gone, but between Regulus and Andromeda, Sirius still felt like he had a family.

Sirius’s awkward relationship with femininity

I should start by clarifying that I’m not transphobic and I think it’s personally fine to have trans headcanons for characters for a long list of reasons (fits the narrative, personal projection, better understanding of themselves, etc). But when it comes to Sirius Black, I think the way a chunk of the fandom portrays the tran headcanons or the fem headcanons, could really be done a bit better. I’m not trying to be a canon bootlicker or anything, but in canon Sirius does have a strong relationship with masculinity, such as being one of the male figures in Harry’s life, being the eldest son, the way that he carries himself (the arrogance and bullying), being James’ best friend/partner in crime, even the fights he has with Molly are from his perspective of a more father/uncle figure rather than a mothers perspective. Though he is much more deeply connected with his mother than his father, even to the point that they fight and argue but her (Walburga) heart was broken (this comment was made by Kreacher but I feel he wouldn’t blow something like that out of proportion). And there’s good reason for that, he is the eldest son, the first heir of the family, someone who would probably have made a strong head of the Black family had he not been sorted into Gryffindor or even ran away. Which is why it’s interesting that he can be headcanonned as so fragile and needy of others when he’s been determined to live his own way from the day he was born. 

I think it dampens his character, as something else to take note of, if there were going to be an accurate portrayal of his character as trans then I feel his personality and ways of doing things would be so much more similar to Bellatrix’s than any other character in the series. Someone who is the eldest daughter of the family, and deals with the cost of being a woman very often. Like having been married off to a man, despite clearly not wanting to be with him at any given moment, she fights tooth and nail for Voldemort's attention so it can only be assumed that she was the same in school, someone so determined to make a name for herself but constantly failing because she’s a woman. Having trans headcanons for Sirius feels so awkward because his character never once deals with any brunt of oppression, and yes it’s a headcanon but for so many characters that I personally headcanon as trans it’s usually with a reason of underlying allegories or comparisons of their story to issues that the trans community has to deal with constantly. To tie it all together, Sirius stays rich, his uncle Alphard gives him money, and Grimmauld place, continues to stay in his name despite having been disowned, which I feel makes it so hard for me to see him as trans because he’s never once suffered from something the female characters in his family have. There’s no mention of his obligations of him having to be married to a slytherin pureblood woman, there’s no fight that he has to conduct in order for his voice to be heard, even when Voldemort tricks Harry into thinking Sirius is tortured, he’s not actually being tortured. He doesn’t ever have his life on the line in that sense, unlike Andromeda (another one of his cousins) who did run away from home, was tortured, and lived in constant fear that she’d lose everything because she’s a slytherin woman from a pureblood family. 

If Sirius was to even have his voice taken away in the order meetings then I feel that could make an argument for the trans headcanons however he’s usually the one who starts the arguments, not able to listen to what the others (usually Molly and Severus) are trying to tell him. From the way he’s described to the story narrative that he faces, it feels out of left field that he’d be portrayed in that way.

And it’s not that there aren’t any characters who couldn’t be described with trans allegories/headcanons, there are plenty enough in the Harry potter universe. Severus Snape, Ron Weasley, Tonks, Luna Lovegood, Moaning Myrtle, just to name a few whose narratives easily fit. I don’t want this to come off as an anti fem/trans Sirius, because it’s honestly not even that deep, I think people should be able to treat the characters how they’d like, but I just think it’s an observation that I have to make on how weird it feels to see Sirius like that. And also because every time I see fem/trans Sirius my brain autocorrects it to being Bellatrix and it’s heartbreaking to find out that it’s not her every single time.

James and Marlene are childhood best friends! Marlene came out to James first and he called her by her preferred pronouns and name!

Effie Potter is a lawyer, often works cases involving children. She will often be called into court as an expert, considering she go a PhD in Forensics Psychology while also doing law school. Dr. Potter is highly respected in her field! Monty Potter, who took on Effie's last name, a botanist, who often does research and writes papers. He is the one often cooking and cleaning, he enjoys doing it while sorting his thoughts. He's technically a Stay-At-Home Dad, but still writes about his work on the side! He loves animals as well!

Marlene's mom works in Sport's Medicine while her dad is a therapist! Marlene is also an only child, but stays over a lot at the Potters! She's basically their second child.

Sirius was taken into Custody by Andromeda & Ted Tonks when he was 9 (Regulus was 8). Andromeda's a high school teacher and Ted is a mechanic. Alphard also lives with them, watching the boys when their guardians are busy. (they first call Andromeda 'Mommy' a year later during a power outage. They boys then call her Mom or Meda!) When Sirius is 12 he calls Ted "Pops" and Regulus starts calling him "Pa".

Sirius and Peter become close friends, as they relate with each other over their full houses. Peter is also the oldest of his 3 siblings and Sirius is the oldest over Regulus and Dora.

Sirius has always had to hold hands with somebody when he's emotional.

Remus has always been the one he can rely on for that.

The first time they hold hands, they're starting their second year. They go into the Great Hall, and Sirius sits next to Remus at Gryffindor table. That's when he realizes that this is Regulus' first year at Hogwarts. Regulus is getting sorted tonight.

Sirius is strangely scared—he doesn't want Regulus to have to face any more abuse at home than he already does by being sorted into Gryffindor, but he also doesn't want to be alone in Gryffindor and for Regulus to have to dwell in the same common room as Barty Crouch Jr.

It's an odd feeling.

As Professor McGonagall calls out names for the children to get sorted, Sirius reverts his eyes. He can't look. Suddenly he hears Minerva's shrill voice ring out, "Lyra Black?"

The first thing Sirius' attention is drawn to is Regulus' deadname. Of course, no one knows except him and Andromeda, but he can't help how his blood boils. McGonagall's eyes widen when Regulus, who's cut his hair short (when did that happen?) and looks like himself now—not just a boy, but himself—steps up to the stool. Sirius reaches over to Remus, immediately intertwining his fingers with his, gripping his hand tight. Remus looks over from his conversation with James. "You alright mate?" he asks, and Sirius swallows, shaking his head. "Regulus," he mumbles, nodding his head to the front of the Great Hall.

The hat takes a moment to ponder, before calling out. "Slytherin!" Sirius freezes, not knowing whether to sigh out of relief or cry.

He makes eye contact with Regulus as he makes his way to Slytherin table, watching him sit down next to Andromeda. And then he chooses to sigh. It's better like this—not wanting Reggie to be in Slytherin just so I'm not alone in Gryffindor would be selfish, he thinks.

And that's that. Sirius finds out that Regulus cut his hair on the train so mum and dad wouldn't find out and then they move on.

Sirius and Remus hold hands on multiple occasions throughout their next years at Hogwarts, but Sirius' intentions with it change when they reach fifth year.

Sirius can now successfully transform into a dog, as well as James into a stag and Peter into a rat, and... Well, Remus has always been a werewolf. For as long as Sirius has known him.

Remus explains that the full moon is soon and he'll be extra tired, like always. Peter nods, and so does James. This is routine now—they can tell when Remus is close to transforming just based on behavior.

"We're animagi now, so we can accompany you," Sirius says, taking his hand. "We... Thought it would help."

And for the first time, Sirius feels a spark when Remus' hand touches his. "... What?" Remus croaks out, and Sirius finds it adorable. He swallows. "Um.. We can go with you, when you transform," Peter explains. Remus doesn't take his eyes off Sirius. "Are you sure?" He mumbles, and Sirius notices how beautiful his lips are when he talks for the first time.

omg i agree with SO much of these but i’m especially passionate about lily being the only potter sibling with glasses and scorpius having tonnes of beauty marks. i feel like i havent seen anyone else who also thinks scorpius is us riddled with beauty marks??? not just on his face but also neck, shoulders, chest etc. i thought it was only me lol.

and i really like the idea of james secretly being good at singing. i feel like he tries to “jokingly” belt songs that are hard to sing to sing terribly and annoy other people and this is how everyone finds out he’s actually really good at it 😭

and the idea of teddy using his abilities to get straight teeth would be so hilarious because ik for a fact he def don’t know shit about dental and will probs continue to fuck his teeth up even more. andromeda takes him to the dentist and it’s literally that dentists worst nightmare. like tf happened here??

Rosie felt utterly weird around the feminine world. Like she didn't belong there. Perhaps that was why she didn't get along with the girls from her class. They thought she was weird. And now, she felt so uncomfortable around Sirius' cousins.

It had been a weird Winter. For starters, Mrs. Black had given her a Barbie Doll as a Christmas present. The doll had an awful pink dress, shoes and purse to combine. Rosie was supposed to be grateful, thrilled. Weren't girls supposed to like dolls? But that doll had the same fake smile that Rosie had to put on. The next day, she cut the Barbie's hair, painted it red, and she dressed the Barbie with trousers and a hoodie. Rosie decided to call it Arnold.

Sirius thought it was cool.

Then, Sirius' cousins were around. Three teenage girls who were everything Rosie wasn't: feminine and pretty. Rosie found the teenage girls intimidating. They kept asking if she was Sirius' girlfriend. Teasing them.

Even though Rosie had a crush on Sirius, she didn't like the world "girlfriend". And Sirius got flushed and angry every time. Denying the whole thing.

"Rosie is just my friend!"

In New Years, The Black Family prepared a party as they always did. Rosie and her parents were invited. But in the middle of the night, when Sirius and Regulus got called by their mother Rosie was kidnapped by Bellatrix, Narcissa and Andromeda.

"You ought to have a makeover"

Rosie thought there was anything wrong with the jeans and jacket she was wearing. But when she saw the girls with dresses, makeup and their hair fixed, Rosie felt out of place. Was she supposed to dress like that? It made her sick.

"You fancy Sirius, don't you?" Bellatrix had asked "He is not going to pay you attention if you practically dress like a boy"

Rosie flushed. How did they know?

"Sirius is just my friend"

Bella let out a chuckle.

"That's what I said about my first boyfriend"

Rosie didn't understand why the girls giggled but somehow she was being dragged to one of the rooms and Rosie supposed there was no escape.

They made her wear a girly blouse, they loosened her hair, and sat her on a chair.

"I feel so stupid" Rosie whispered as Narcissa put makeup on her. The brush was tickling Rosie's eyelid.

The girls had been chatting about people Rosie didn't know. Gossips about who snogged who. They talked about a lad named Rod a lot. Apparently Bellatrix fancied him. They talked about some lad named Lucius too. And also, Bellatrix used the word "bitch" so many times that Rosie lost count. She wanted to leave. Where was Sirius?

"Oh you would look absolutely beautiful, darling" Narcissa giggled "I always do all my friends' makeup"

Rosie blinked as Narcissa finished with one eyelid. But it was only seconds before she started with the other.

"If you're lucky, Sirius might give you your first kiss at midnight" Bellatrix added with a smirk

Rosie blushed. She had thought about it. She wanted Sirius to be the first. But she wasn't sure if she was ready. She was only ten.

"Aaaw she is blushing" Narcissa giggled.

"Sirius might use tongue and all" Bella chanted and Narcissa laughed.

Rosie blushed even more. Use tongue? Eugh!

"Leave her alone, will you?" Andromeda said "She is just eleven and she might not be ready"

She was ten actually. But she didn't correct her.

"You don't have to do anything you don't want" Andromeda added with a smile.

Bellatrix rolled her eyes.

"Come on, Andy! It's about time baby whinny Sirius kisses a bird..." she raised an eyebrow at Rosie "Am I right?"

Rosie didn't know how to answer.

"Besides, Sirius talks about you all the time" Narcissa giggled "Right? He definitely fancies you"

"Really?"

Rosie felt stupid the moment she asked. It was supposed to be a secret. How she fancied Sirius. They were best friends. And Rosie would only dare to tell him when they were older. Old enough to date and that sort of stuff.

Bellatrix and Narcissa laughed. Andromeda smiled.

"Of course" Narcissa winked as she came closer and applied something on Rosie's lips. Lipstick. It felt itchy and smelled like strawberry. Rosie hated it.

Narcissa gestured at Rosie to move her lips together. Rosie copied her.

"I think she is ready for a good snog" Bella declared.

"How do I look?"

Andromeda passed her a mirror.

Rosie's reflection looked wrong and funny in all the ways possible. Her hair was loose, her curls perfectly combed. Rosie always used to keep it tied. Her eyelids had a blue color, her cheeks were slightly pink and her lips were a bit red. Her eyelashes looked longer. She looked as fake as the Barbie Doll.

Rosie frowned.

"Sirius would like this?"

"Of course!" Bellatrix winked "Boys like this sort of stuff. Sirius would want to snog you  I'm sure"

"You're are beautiful, Rosie" Andromeda smiled.

Rosie felt ridiculous.

Bellatrix snorted "Cissy... Go an fetch Sirius so he can see his future girlfriend"

Rosie felt nervous. She didn't want Sirius to look at her like that. But somehow she did want that kiss. She wanted for Sirius to look at her in different eyes. Sort of like adults looked at each other when they were in love. If pretty girls like the Black Sisters thought Sirius would like it, then they were probably right.

Narcissa left with a smile. Bellatrix was smirking in a weird way. And Andromeda had an odd expression. Rosie felt like she was going to vomit.

"Oh Bella..." Andromeda tutted as she saw her sister's expression. Bellatrix sneered.

Rosie tried to ignore that.

Narcissa came back surely after. Before Rosie had time to escape. Unfortunately behind her, were Sirius and Regulus with curious faces.

"What's going on?" Sirius asked.

"We have a surprise for you!"

Bellatrix smiled and dragged Rosie to her feet. She grabbed her by her shoulders and pushed her towards Sirius.

Rosie tried to maintain the gaze.

"Rosie?"

But when Sirius blinked in surprise she looked down.

Sirius chuckled.

"What do you have in your face?" Sirius asked, then he turned to his cousins, frowning "What did you do to her?"

"Now now, Sirius" Bellatrix tutted "That's no way to treat a lady"

"Rosie is not a lady" Sirius wrinkled his nose "She is my mate..."

"Sirius..." Andromeda warned.

"You are such a pussy, Sirius!" Bellatrix tutted.

Sirius ignored her.

"Rosie, you look ridiculous" Sirius laughed.

That's what Rosie thought. But now that Sirius said it, it hurt. She had hope he would think differently. Rosie kept her gaze down, trying to ignore the knot on her throat.

"Don't you think she looks pretty?" Narcissa asked, placing a hand on Rosie's shoulder.

Sirius kept laughing.

"I think she looks pretty" Regulus whispered, only because she noticed the tears in Rosie's eyes.

Regulus was a good kid. Rosie liked him. She gave him a soft smile.

"Pretty?" Sirius chuckled "She looks like clown! I mean look at her, Reggie!"

Rosie couldn't take it anymore. She had the urge to cry. And she felt so embarrassed. So what she did was run away, pushing Sirius along the way. He had been so mean. Rosie felt ridiculous. Especially if she heard Bellatrix laughing as she ran away.

Rosie received the New Year in her mother's lap, with dry tears. She had cleaned the make up and tied her hair again. She felt more comfortable wrapped around her father's jacket. By the scent of his cologne.

Sirius found her later on the night. Rosie was getting sleepy as she saw her parents dance and she tried to read her book. But her eyes kept closing and she yawned all the time.

But then Sirius took a seat beside her.

"Moony! I was looking for you!" Sirius exclaimed "I thought we were putting cockroaches on the food table, remember? Then you disappeared"

Rosie tried not looking at him. She was so embarrassed to do so.

"Are you angry with me, Moony?"

Rosie knew Sirius was making that puppy face that made her melt.

"No" But she didn't look up.

"Was it because of my cousins did to you?"

Rosie didn't answer.

"Bella is nasty! She is always doing stuff to me"

Rosie wasn't angry with Bellatrix or Sirius. She felt like an idiot for wanting to be pretty for Sirius. When Rosie hadn't been herself. She kept thinking that she would probably would have to grow up, become a teenager who used makeup and dresses, who talked about boys and giggled, like Sirius' cousins. And she hated the idea. It was bloody torture. She wanted to be someone else. Preferably someone more masculine.

"I said those things because I thought you really looked ridiculous and uncomfortable" Sirius continued, looking guilty and desperate "That's not you, Moony. Make up and stuff..."

"I am a girl... I ought to be"

Rosie wished she wasn't a girl.

"You are not just a girl... You're Moony, my mate" Sirius said. Rosie looked up. She liked how that sounded "That's what I like about you. You are different. You are cool. You don't need makeup and stuff to be pretty..."

Rosie blushed a little.

"You think I am pretty?"

Now it was Sirius' turn to blush.

"I guess" Sirius shrugged, looking down.

Rosie smiled. Sirius was still cute.

"Do you forgive me?"

Rosie sniffed and smiled.

"Okay"

Sirius smiled too. Now relieved. He stood up.

"Come on then!" Sirius said, smirking "We still have time for our little prank before the night ends"

"What about Reggie?"

Sirius rolled his eyes "He is already in bed, that baby..." he said "Let's do it... Just the two of us this time, okay?"

Rosie still had hope that Sirius would fancy her too and one day he would give her her first kiss. Was that silly to think? But for now, it would be nice to play a little prank on the guests. Just to have a laugh and start the year on the right foot.

Rosie smiled, closing her book and standing up.

"Okay, let's go"
