helloooo so im not a fan of greek mythology or classics or anything like that, but something about the suitors of penelope caught my eye so i just wanted to ask if there are any other suitors named in the odyssey that arent antinous, eurymachus or amphinomus? (i forgot how to spell the last guys name)

+ and if youre willing enough, did any of them have characters / personalities and maybe even the slightest bits of stories of their own, outside of the whole yknow. "trying to make penelope marry and kill telemachus" thing? if thats too much though i completely understand, lovely blog!!

Of course there are several names that appear in the Odyssey. Of course the most known ones are Antinous, Eurymachus and Amphinomus but there are several names that appear in the Odyssey as you remember from my post about Antinous where I mention the misconceptions around the Odyssey,

you see the name of Leiodes. Other names rescued are:

Leocritus, Agelaus, Amphimedon, Elatus, Eurynomus, Euryades, Demoptolemus, Peisander, Polybus and Ctesippus.

Unfortunately most of the names of the suitors are not mentioned in the Odyssey however we have other scoliasts and future writers, for example Apollodorous who also makes a list of several other names in his book "Epitome":

And from Ithaca itself the suitors were twelve, to wit: Antinous, Pronous, Liodes, Eurynomus, Amphimachus, Amphialus, Promachus, Amphimedon, Aristratus, Helenus, Dulicheus, and Ctesippus.

However one must bear in mind that all these names do not appear in the Odyssey so it is unclear whether Apollodorous has mentioned these names out of other sources or if he came up with a few of them himself! Hahaha especially since Apollodorous seems to be raising the number of the suitors from the standard 108 to much more than that!

But yeah that is food for thought as well even if Apollodorous lived several centuries after Homer.

As for the last part yes of course there seems to be several of character development to the suitors that at least are named in the Odyssey for as you see from the post that I made,

Antinous is the leader of the suitors in one way. He is as you see the most outspoken and one of the most arrogant ones and the way I read the passages of his it seems almost as if he is constantly intoxicated. I find it no coincidence that he died when he was ready to get a drink! I also love it, as I mentioned to another post of mine, how his name seems to mean "against all reason" aka "madman"

Eurymachus strikes me as the guy who is the "rich brat" in one way if I am allowed the comparison. He seems to be the richest of them all and he seems to be the one Icarius prefers the most for his future son-in-law because his own wedding gifts were the richest. Eurymachus seems to be a smooth talker and he often gets in the middle between Antinous and Penelope (for example Penelope goes on a full attack on Antinous accusing him and Eurymachus gets in the middle) but in a more slithering way, if that makes any sense. He is also the one who throws Antinous under the buss when he sees Odysseus is up for the kill to them all. He says that Antinous who is just killed was the root of all evil in there and that Odysseus needs to do nothing more. He also suggests they would pay back what they ate. He strikes me as the rich kid that thinks he can solve stuff with money. Eand wine .urymachus also seems to be confident with himself because he seems to have a close relationship with Odysseus and the royal family or at least his family does since Eurymachus mentions how Odysseus used to place him on his knees when he was a child, feeding him roasted meat and wine

Both Eurymachus and Antinous seem to be though capable athletes (they were the best at throwing the javelin and the discus while they were playing together) and like Antinous he seems to have knowledge on weapons such as bows and arrows.

Amphinomus is more of a diplomat material. In fact Homer states that out of all the suitors Penelope liked him the most because he was a smooth talker and he seemed gentle. In fact Amphinomus prevented the suitors from killing Telemachus TWICE in the Odyssey. He didn't deny the suggestion of the kill per se (so that he wouldn't lose the support of the other suitors) but he said that they need to first make sure that the killing was agreeable to the gods as well (in a way he also seems to try and prevent the killing altogether). He said that if gods wanted that then he would kill Telemachus himself but if they do not it is a sin and it shouldn't be followed. He is also one of those who encourages the others to stop mistreating Odysseus (disguised as a beggar) and encourages them to let Telemachus treat him as his guest given that this is the right thing to do. It seems that even Odysseus noticed he has kindness in him for he is the only suitor he actually doesn't only test in order to save him from doom but he ACTUALLY warns him to escape doom but Amphinomus doesn't heed the warning and remains. He also seems to be the suitor that at the end of the day didn't try to harm Odysseus out of hatred but he ran towards him with his sword trying to get him out of the way towards the exit so basically he tried to run away. Telemachus killed him with a spear through the back (his first kill for that day) and again I find it interesting and ironic that his name means "between two rules/shares" because he seems to be in a limbo state between the suitors and Telemachus and in the end he dies between two rulers (Odysseus and Telemachus). Amphinomus strikes me for a good guy that ended up with bad companies. In one way he seems to be in a way reflecting Odysseus too since he does try to persuade others with his words and navigate his way through stuff (plus the fact that Penelope liked him more than the others because of the way he speaks with logic AND Odysseus seeing the potential in him and actively trying even more to save him compared to others).

Leiodes was also called "soothsayer". It was said that he was one of those who was head over the heels in love with Penelope and he genuinely wanted to win her hand. He seemed to be a gentle guy or at least gentler than the rest who really wanted to earn Penelope. He was also the first to protest against bending the bow, realizing the impossible of the task thus earning the angry reaction of Antinous (see at my post that I link). It is also arguably the most shameful out of the killings Odysseus performed given that Leiodes managed to clasp Odysseus's knees begging for his life and also saying that he never bothered or bedded any of his slave girls, according to the customs of employing ritual, Odysseus couldn't refuse him the favor and he should normally spare him his life as he requested (in this case this doesn't apply classically given how Athena was there encouraging). Odysseus though was furious for Leiodes's notion to marry Penelope and he cut off his head.

Leocrtitus strikes me as someone who thinks too high of himself. His name appears technically once in the Odyssey and that is when he fights against Mentor (Athena in disguise) and claims that even if Odysseus himself were to show up in the palace, Penelope would have no joy upon seeing him because they would more or less kill him. Leocritus seems more like the guy that boasts a lot from that line or that is certain of himself when things are certain but only when he is certain that nothing would go wrong. He speaks with certainty they can take Odysseus when he is most certain that Odysseus would never show up because he thinks he is dead.

Agelaus seems to be similar to Amphinomus here for he too seems to have some humanity inside him (although arguably one can also say that he is pretending of that he has his reasons behind it) since he also speaks to the suitors and advises them to stop tormenting the stranger (Odysseus in disguise) or stop bothering the slave girls in the hall (most likely the women who were unwilling to serve the suitors) and he even said that "he hoped Odysseus would come back but that doesn't seem likely" (the latter seems to be more a pretend wish than anything but that is up for interpretation) but he keeps trying to sooth-talk Telemachus to tell his mother to choose the one that brought her the best gifts to which Telemachus says that he "doesn't want to force her and that he hopes the day will never come". Agelaus also strikes me for a very calm fellow for even in the chaos of battle after Antinous, Eurymachus and Amphinomos are dead Agelaus still calls for Melanthius and makes the assumption that Odysseus doesn't have enough shafts for them all and that they should sound the alarm or something and try to find their way out and apparently he was right because Telemachus accidentally left the door to the weaponry open so Melanthius came back holding some weapons for some of the suitors. So yeah that too seems like a great thing not mentioned enough. Also even amidst the chaos he tries to find allies for he turns to Mentor (Athena in disguise) and tries to persuade him not to be swayed by Odysseus's words unknown to him that he is speaking to Athena and when he sees that "Mentor" is not helping, he is showing leading skills and he gathers around the best remaining of the suitors to organize themselves and fight back. The latter gives a meaning to his name as well given how Agelaus means "leader of people"

Eurynomus has no lines in the Odyssey but I find it interesting that Homer decided to share with us that Eurynomus is one of 4 brothers out of whom one of them accompanied Odyssus to the arduous trip, Antiphus, and he was in fact one of his comrades that died in the hands of Polyphemus and in fact he was the last to be eaten by him so Eurynomus for me signifies the visual representation of the people who are left behind and possibly their complicated psychology. His father Aegyptius who was mourning for the death of his son (for he had stopped hoping to see him again) and the other two brothers that helped his father at the farm. Somehow makes me wonder was Eurynomus TOO EAGER to make his father proud? Perhaps he stopped caring? Did he have any recollections of his own brother or not? How was his relationship with his other brothers? Was he, if I may make a random comparison, an "edgy teenager" who just didn't care anymore? And arguably Homer also names him as "one of the best" of the suitors so that shows he did have plenty of potential. Who knows indeed

Amphimedon and Demoptolemus are also not having any lines and are mentioned once and twice respectably in the Odyssey but both were some of those that Homer names "the best" that Agelaus brings close to him again showing their potential.

Euryades is only mentioned when Telemachus kills him so not much is known on him.

Same goes with Elatus who is also mentioned only when he is killed by Eumaeus and nothing else is very much known of him

Peisander is mentioned during the wedding gifts process when Agelaus gathers him close to him as well (again one of those that were praised for their potential) and when he is killed by Philoetius.

Polybus now seems to be mentioned as "wise" but I also see the name being associated as the father of Eurymachus more often. There is only mentions of Polybus as a suitor and that is when Agelaus is gathering around him the best he can find in chaos and when he is killed by Eumaeus. Most likely we talk about two different people that just share the same name. I don't think both father AND son are competing for the hand of Penelope unless Polybus was there just to make sure that Penelope would marry in their family but that doesn't seem likely to me given how Eurymachus gives gifts that are said to be the best so if his father was also there I would expect them to have similar gifts and that Icarius might as well approve of the father as the husband to his daughter plus the fact that the suitors are named as young makes me doubt that Polybus the father of Eurymachus and Polubus the suitor are the same person. But here's some food for thought!

Ctesippus is the one that is mentioned from moment 1 that he has "lawlessness in his heart" so he seems like the most violent or potentially viscous of them all. He stands up and says that he wants to offer a "guest gift" to the "stranger" (Odysseus in disguise) one of the slave girls that belong to Odysseus. He even proceeds on taking an ox's hoof from his plate and throw it to Odysseus but Odysseus dodges it. The move causes the reaction of Telemachus and his reaction also brings forth Agelaus who also says to the suitors to stop abusing the stranger. Ctesippus doesn's seem to be a very potent spearman for he manages to graze the shoulder of Eumaeus in the battle but his spear was deflected by the swineherd's shield so either he is not as good in battle or he was drunk or panicking for he lost his weapon like that.

I hope that helps a little at a small interpretation/analysis on the suitors of Penelope as presented in the Odyssey plus an extra list of Apollodorous even if I do not fully allign with it, I just placed it here for the sakes of the encyclopedic knowledge! Hehehehe!

But thanks for the question Anon because it is important to remember how complicated all the homeric characters are! Even those that are supposed to appear brutes, they have also secret sides that Homer did let us known they existed!

Yknow what since we're doing discourse on Irredeemable Teens I wanna share with yall some thoughts on Penelope Everpetal

Penelope is a wild magic sorcerer. It seems so random. With a name like Everpetal, wouldn't you expect her to have something more elegant, like divine soul sorcery? Storm sorcery, like her best friend Sam? Hell, even draconic sorcery has a certain villainous finesse to it, especially considering that she's working with a dragon. But instead, she gets wild magic. The subclass that new players get told to avoid because half of its features nerf your character. The subclass that has a 0.1% chance of killing you and everyone in a 20ft radius every time you cast a spell.

People like to joke that sorcerers don't work for their magic---I mean, they call the sorcery teacher "just a guy who hangs out with students and talks about how cool their powers are". But that's ignoring the other side of magic---not power, but control. While wizards and bards fought to learn to cast even basic spells, Penelope struggled to reel in her magic. It was a battle that nobody saw, and when she lost it, it would end up humiliating at best, and devastating at worst. Combine that with the fact that she seems spoiled and entitled---maybe the type of person to believe being born with magic made her better than other casters---and it's easy to see the conflict. Her sorcery should have made her glamorous, desirable. Instead, it only burdened her.

Maybe that's why Kalvaxus picked her as his future prom queen.

I imagine he found her in her freshman year. She'd had a surge in class and grown a big beard of blue feathers---not cute. Not pretty. Humiliating. So there she was, behind the school, sobbing and tearing them out in big bloody fistfuls and muttering about how she was going to kill everyone who ever laughed at her because she was the best most powerful sorceress ever, and, well. Kalvaxus normally wouldn't care about some idiot student being sad, but something about her fury intrigued him. It seemed...exploitable.

So he blew a puff of smoke her way and made her sneeze the rest of the feathers out. Told her she was right---she WAS better for being a sorceress, and it wasn't fair that people made fun of her for something she couldn't control. Penelope wouldn't have noticed the contradiction. She was only fourteen, and more than a little dehydrated. All she wanted was for someone to hear her problems and not laugh, and he did just that.

And so Vice Principal Goldenhoard became her special friend (don't tell mom and dad---they wouldn't understand that he really was just her friend, you know SOME teachers would be using her confidence for nefarious purposes. Not him, though. Never him). If she had a bad surge and Sam was busy, he would even let her eat lunch in his office. He made a confession: he wasn't a dragonborn. He was a true dragon, kept in this form by a wicked curse. She agreed that Aguefort was evil for trapping him. He should be principal, really. Maybe (when he suggested it) he should even rule the world.

As Penelope grew older, she and Kalvaxus made an agreement---she would help him rise to power, and he would make sure nobody mocked her and her friends ever again. He introduced her to some new friends---one of the paladin students, a party girl from Hudol, a warlock with a cool car. She started campaigning for prom queen. But there was one little thing: for the plan to work, he needed sacrifices. Nobody important---that stuck-up nerd from the library, the cringy horse girl who made everyone so embarrassed (she forgot how bad it felt to be in her place whenever she surged), a bossy jock. Kalvaxus had her pick out the next one---an annoying activist type, someone nobody really liked, someone who she might even be able to convince to give up her life for the "greater good". Kalvaxus was so proud. They took that brash cleric without a hitch, but it was harder to get her to budge on her best friend. Suddenly her good friend Kalvaxus turned scary---she couldn't back out now. She'd already helped kidnap five girls. Did she want him to turn her in? Besides, when she was queen, everyone would want to be her friend. Who is she to question him when he tells her to sacrifice this one?

Penelope didn't protest when Kalvaxus picked a random freshman as the last sacrifice. She'd already done the worst thing anyone could do.

By the time the Bad Kids charged into that gym, she was too far gone. She'd steeped too long in Kalvaxus's lies for the stain to come out. She genuinely believed that being herself gave her the right to be queen. She'd sacrificed so much for it, after all. Maybe eventually she realized she wasn't going to win. But hey, she came this far. Might as well go down swinging.

Are you genuinely saying you don't experience stress with derealization or depersonalisation or dissociation?? I guess not everyone experiences it like me but you don't get distressed when your brain tries to convince you that you're not real? Do you experience denial? Doesn't that stress you out?

I'm sure that it's possible to live without stress but like, really?

Hey, thanks for the asks. I like discussing this a lot, as someone who experiences very little distress anymore over my system symptoms (lol). Fair warning, this post gets into a lot of trauma stuff. TW for descriptions of abuse and a bit of ideation discussion!

Here’s the kicker: I really don’t experience many symptoms anymore.

By the time I got diagnosed, I didn’t experience those nearly as much. I used to go into what I called dissociative fugue — stare at a wall time — for hours, and that was distressing. But that is far, far in my past now. I can distinctly remember the last time it happened, which was over 2 years ago at this point. I can’t tell you the last time I lost track of the fact that I’m a real, living, breathing person. That was when I had just started therapy, and since then, I don’t… feel it anymore. It’s not part of my experience.

When I first realized, “something weird is happening in my head,” I was definitely distressed… for about 5 minutes. Then my friend (abusive) told me she experienced the same exact thing, and so I was normal. I found… a lot of joy from my system after that. I convinced myself that my “characters” in my head were made up to take care of different stressful parts of my life, and I assumed everyone was sort of like this. Like, Wade did home life and Sierra did school life. Isn’t that what my Mom described, “being a different person at work than at home”?

So I didn’t experience distress over my symptoms. And, well, at the same time, I did. I lost time constantly, but I didn’t realize it was my system. I thought I was just an idiot. I was significantly depressed, but I figured that was… yknow. Depression. Not Trauma(tm) whispering in my brain. But that was it, and the thing is, I usually... forgot I had felt bad in the first place. After all, I was only depressed when Wade was out; Sierra was at school and she felt fine. So really, I was only depressed when I was at home, and even then, it only happened now and then, and was I really depressed? Naaaah.

It was like that for a long time. And then, we split our persecutor, and the Two Years of Blackout Memory happened, and then boy howdy were we distressed and dysfunctional. But again, I don't remember most of college -- I don't remember that distress and dysfunction. I remember it happened, and my fiance could definitely tell some stories (maybe @circulars-singlet has stuff they could say on this matter), but for the most part, I don't feel it anymore.

When I got my diagnosis, it was after moving out from my parents house. I'd been gone for about a half a year and living with my partner, who really helped me overcome a lot of my problems. They're the one who helped me the most, forcing me to get a therapist. Three weeks later, I'm diagnosed and getting weekly therapy.

And now, with three years under my belt... I don't know, like...

When I start to doubt I'm real, I roll my eyes and hug myself. I flick my nose. "If I'm not real, take that, asshole." When I start to dissociate, I have my partner there to help me come back relatively quickly, or I can ground myself fairly readily. It doesn't distress me because it's so normal now. Genuinely, my autism distresses me far more, I get so in my head about it.

The cons of my systemhood absolutely do not outweigh the pros. I am alive today because of these chucklefucks in my head. I am alive today because I have the ability to forget it all. I am alive today because I did not feel like it was happening to me.

And now I can recognize it was me, and I can breathe and acknowledge I'm safe. I can recognize I'm real, and that's okay. I can communicate readily with all my parts, and we function together as well as we can. When I do get distressed, we can handle it, and it happens so rarely due to DID things that I don't really find my DID to be distressing.

Instead, I get 14 other people helping me each day, which nobody else gets the benefit of in my life. Score! And hey, the amnesia means I get to relive some of my favorite things that I never knew were favorites. The dissociation means I can just... ignore bad stuff.

There's definitely worry. I won't pretend that EVERY OUNCE of distress is gone, and lord knows I am dysfunctional as hell. But...

It's still an incredibly good life, and I owe that life to my DID. It's not a disorder, dragging me down. It's a disorder built from necessity and survival. And I couldn't be more thrilled that I was strong enough to survive that.

Does that make sense?

caduceus lvl.20 redesign i did ages ago but forgot to post

copious amounts of design notes under the cut

tl;dr: my goal with this redesign was to create a coherent design consistent with his previous art, improved enough to hopefully read as lvl.20, but still practical enough to serve as actual adventuring clothes

okay anyways so watch how autistic i can be about caduceus

i wasn't satisfied with caduceus's lvl.20 design. i'm not entirely sure how that design happened. to be fair, critrole designs have never been consistent, but lvl.20 cad abandons nearly every key aspects of cad's design. it drives me batty

why is his hair so straight and pale and dead. why is he draped in so much brown. how do those wing-skirt things work. why does his staff... look like that. like its gonna explode into toothpicks at the first use. why is there honey. why is the gold of his shield so bright. what is the rope on his shoulders for

i mean, who knows what goes on in the critrole art development process. my personal theory is that they continue to design these characters as personal ocs and not as official characters in a huge multimedia franchise, and their personal choices trump all, design considerations be damned. like, i cant really judge. i have the privilege to make whatever choices i want when drawing. i answer to no one. i could tell taliesin jaffe to go fuck himself. yknow. if i wanted to die

regardless, i dont hate everything about the lvl.20 design. i appreciate that it brought back his swirl-patterned pants, but the entire core of his design is so busy with shit that it becomes a problem

i tried to preserve cad's key aspects as much as i could in my redesign, as well as incorporate aspects i enjoyed most from each design. for example, i really like the idea of the goliath beetle armour in lvl.20 cad, but i tinted the black shell towards blue to match cad's signature teal green.

I also tried to create a palette consistent with his previous designs. teal should always be his primary colour, with pink being the most prominent accent. after that, anything thats analogous to those two is gravy. for real, i am begging critrole to at least keep consistent palettes, because this is a problem for most of their designs

my choice to include the red cords is inspired by the winter cad design as well as one of fjord's earlier designs (side note: most of fjord's designs are pretty great; he's the most consistently on-par)

i enjoy drawing aesthetic parallels between connected characters. on that note, the swirly jade earring is a gift from beau :3 because they're fun earring buddies

speaking of cad's winter design, the design sheet showed a lot of asian influence (thats mostly covered by the cloak) and i will take any excuse to add asian influence to a design. the first two tunics below were my main reference for my own tunic choice

the knots on the cords are specifically chinese knot art. the largest knot at his waist is a plate knot which can symbolize the cyclical nature of life and death, and the knot on his cape is a brocade knot which can symbolize (re)unity. i thought these concepts were in-line with cad's general philosophy and the wildmother's teachings. also, the brocade knot acts as his holy symbol with a crook-shaped pin woven through the cord. i really fuck with holy symbols being integrated into a design rather than just slapped on somewhere

lightning round design notes:

the fraying woven material is witch hair moss, which i imagine could be made very soft and warm. this is my version of the neutral-coloured flynet cape in the fourth design

i brought back the iconic pink lichen

i simplied the staff again. my way of visually portraying a growth in power is that the one wooden hand has transformed into many hands grasping the crystal, which is also a representation of cad widening his social circle and of the nein in general

final note:

the pose i chose for caduceus was very intentional. while cad looks great in a power pose, i feel like it doesnt suit his character. his power isnt so confrontational. his power is quiet and gentle and humble and inevitable. he doesnt need to show off. he's just chilling. i love this dumb silly man

and for the record, while i consider cad to be the worst lvl.20 design, jester is a guaranteed second place. very tempted to redesign her as well, because mature-but-frilly pirate lolita is right up my alley

DENTA/TEETH/DIGESTIVE SYSTEM?

I think the purpose of their denta would not to chew but to bite into energon. Theyre metal beings, that are BIG in most cases, I believe they have a bite force strong enough enough to bite into energon in its mineral state.

For denta appearance, (while I dont know the best shape there is to cut into rock) would be sharp teeth, yknow pointed teeth. Some cybertronians have sharp pointed teeth and then there are some who dont. Well heres the kicker since these guys can also transform, I feel like they can alter their denta shape as well. highly compacted plates that can loosen and move when need be or something. Their sharp teeth can pop out like that HTTYD scene with Toothless popping out his teeth

They dont have tongues, cuz they dont taste, or use it to swallow, or use it to talk. They just kinda. Lean their helms back to get energon into their throats, like birds!!

And they dont need a tongue to formulate their speech, for their voice box is like, a literal box that generates sound waves that is the cybertronians voice. A cybertronian moves their mouth as to not muffle their voice.

While their denta is not designed to chew, in order to get energon into a shape/size that can get to their version of stomachs, their throats grind the energon into smaller bits so it can travel easier through their esophagus. or whatever the cybertronian equivalent is.

Once the energon gets to their stomachs, its melted down into a liquid state so it can flow to the spark where it is essentially "charged" and then can flow throughout tubes and circuits and power their bodies/frames and systems. And I believe, the cybertronians were created in such a way that they can utilize every component of energon so nothing goes to waste.

Cybertronians were created before the technology was made that could convert energon into a liquid state. That tech was made as to cut down digestive time and save energy that could be used for other things.

SKIN/INTEGUMENTARY SYSTEM

idk what cybertronian skin is called and I barely remember what the integumentary system is other than its skin it helps regulate body temp and helps fight infection?

ANYWAYS their skin is like a very flexible metal, its thinner in parts where the frame has more armor, but thicker in places that dont have armor to compensate for the lack of armor.

Here in this thin layer of metal are receptors that can sense touch and pain, and like idk abt this part but wanna say there is a thin layer of wire net/mesh that can either warm up or cool down as a way to assist the cybertronians ventilation system (ventilation system does most of the work when cooling down the frame)

This layer can repair itself over time. It can also be replaced with external metal if the layer is too damaged. During the early times of the War for Cybertron injuries were repaired with external metal. This external metal did not include touch/pain receptors or the wire net/mesh that assists with temp regulation. Those who were frequently repaired with this external metal have some resistance to pain but have the tendency to overheat, in severe cases need an external source to cool down their frames. ie, dipping in water

Cybertronians need to stay at a constant temp, normally a LOT warmer than we do, in order to keep the energon in a liquid state and stay warm during the nights on Cybertron. If they get too cold the energon can solidify again and cause blockage in circuits and tubing. But if their frames get too hot, the processor can fry, circuits can melt, etc

these I dont have detailed thought on atleast yet, but

They wouldnt have noses. they dont breathe, or smell, so.

They dont have ANY reproductive organs, internal or external. They cannot reproduce with eachother or by themselves. their numbers only increase bcuz of the Allspark

Wait wait. Olivia's body is sorta co-possessed by Polly being the gold dust source that Olivia has to keep her healthy, and from what I'm guessing Polly would need a gold dust source as well since her gold dust is kinda being used by Olivia.

So without a whistle the gold dust wouldn't really have much time left, aka Olivia wouldn't have much time left.

But then how did Cold Iron sleep enter Olivia if she didn't have the whistle aka the gateway for cold iron sleep to enter through. Because like didn't North and/or Olivia mention that Gold Whistles are like gateways for cold iron to enter from a sentient engine to it's golden whistle?

Well maybe it's like my last theory, The cold iron most likely entered through Polly's engine which from what I guessed might've had little bits of her soul still there that didn't go with her during the time she fused herself with Olivia.

so for clarity, my durge is actually two people, they're twin brothers (or yknow, they consider themselves that, not even gonna try to figure out the exact biological fuckery behind their existence), one of whom (Ryldimar) developed a conscience after getting tadpoled and the other of whom (Veil) really didn't. They were extremely close all their lives and are basically one soul in two bodies or something similar, but forgot each other after they got tadpole'd and were both just vaguely aware that they'd Lost Something Very Important until they started respectively piecing things together. their story inevitably ends tragically but Ryldimar at least more or less survives to move on from it.

Ryldimar is the one whose playthrough I consider "canon," while Veil didn't encounter much of the main plot up to act 3 and carved his own way to Baldur's Gate, where he proceeded to kill Orin and take her Netherstone before Ryldimar got there and basically replaced her as the Bhaal boss in my own canon. How did Veil resist the Absolute without the prism? some kinda twin bond/Bhaal blood bullshit, don't worry about it.

I somehow don't have proper art refs of them yet but they are each other's dream guardians in-game so I have screenshots like this hoarded.

so that was a bit of a ramble but yeah lol.

7. Is their personal story represented in their overall design? Do they carry any mental scars or physical alterations from the shit that happened to them? It is, but not all of it is on purpose lol. I made Ryldimar first and wasn't terribly invested in the whole durge concept, I just wanted to see more of the game, so I threw together something visually appealing to me and picked drow because I'm one of those people. then I decided to do one(1) evil run and made Veil by just mucking up Ryldimar's design a little. it was actually my friend who suggested that they could be twins and I immediately got super attached to the concept (because who doesn't love a good Evil Twin trope) and now here we are, and I've since adjusted their designs a little accordingly (they've both got the red swirl tattoo, but Veil's is canonically on the opposite side and it's not a tattoo so much as a remnant of whatever process split them into two people). Ryldimar is the one who ended up in Kressa Bonedaughter's custody for a while, so he's got a fair amount of scarring from her various vivisection attempts. It's also the reason he experienced such a stark personality change in a way Veil didn't; Kressa's poking around in his brain (mostly in an attempt to make him slightly more docile so he'd stop trying to strangle her with his own intestines) had unforeseen long-term consequences. Veil's face scarring is intentional and decorative, and it predates the tadpole. They both had some artistic inclination though they uh, kept it a lot more reined in than Orin obviously. Veil always leaned more toward visual arts and Ryldimar preferred music (mostly as justification for the single level in Bard I gave him).

Veil also does absolutely have brain damage, but aside from the memory loss it mostly just fucked up his emotional regulation a bit. Though ironically, he doesn't remember his name (Veil is something he picked for himself post-tadpole) while Ryldimar does remember his.

12. OC Art/Stories or shipping content? What do you enjoy the most? What's ur little hidden passion? Okay so arguably a bit of both; the two of them have a whole story arc intertwined with @elaphaemourra's tiefling oc Dragonfly (same person who is the inspiration between Veil and Ryldimar in the first place). I really love throwing my ocs at other peoples' ocs and the whole conversation started as just throwing whump ideas around by letting Veil get his hands on Dragonfly. that evolved into "Dragonfly is the hostage in Ryldimar's storyline, he was originally captured by Orin but once Veil killed her he didn't need a hostage anymore, so he just kept him for fun."

It was already canon that Ryldimar ends up killing Veil and rejecting Bhaal, now he just. also gets a very traumatized tiefling out of it and by this point we've written walls of text about these two recovering and helping each other heal from the insane shit they've both been through.

also they fuck. so much. they're the absolute epitome of "that which doesn't kill me gives me kinks that are difficult to explain."

I forgot completely was I wanted to write. I had a little jumpscare right now. Remind me to never, ever put tags in my posts again. People actually finding this blog scares the living shit outta me.

I mean, I'm doing this sort of for mental health purposes. Having a clear line what you wrote, when you wrote it, and why you wrote it, is much easier (and to be fair, feels less like a chore) than keeping a word document or a bullet journal or smt.

I could post everything privately though, now that I think about it...it's at least worth a consideration.

I guess...it's like screaming into an abyss or something. You like hear yourself echo, but there's always the possibilty that someone might greet back? even though everytime it happens, it scares me...

Today I ate too much letter soup. I know, it's for kids. I wanted to do myself a f(l)avor and (s)wallow in nostalgia for a while. Just like with everything though, I put a little bit too much. Same with my plants, I don't let them dry out, most of the time I overwater them. I give too much. Too much of a care, too much of a reaction. Maybe it's not enough though. So people would finally take me seriously. So that my own mom stops gaslighting me and the people who are supposed to help me don't believe a word I say. I guess it comes with the schizofrenic and pacifist territory. People suck sometimes.

But there's also a lot of good in the world. People tell me I should stop with the internet, and maybe they're right. I just had the experience that the nicest, most understanding, most lovable people I met, were on the internet.

Not to say that it's all roses and sunshine. Everytime I open twitter, I get a headache (but my longing for good art is stronger.)

I am fully aware that life isn't a walk in the park. I'm very sensitive though, even though online I seem brashen and temperamental and offline I'm kind of stoic, doesn't mean I'm completely either of those things. I hurt easily, and I have my coping mechanisms to protect myself.

I already have enough bad vibes as it is. People are instinctively untrusting of me, and my head feels like a black comedy.

I would love to be a more optimistic and fun person, that's why I go so overboeard with the fangirling sometimes. Also, it's fun!

Offline it just doesn't come naturally to me. My grip on myself there is so strong, that I barely talk or show much emotion. One of my caretakers thought I was autistic, and I would love to check it out, but Germanys medical system is on the border of collapse, so it's hard to find medical care for things that aren't, yknow, fatal.

And it's not like I don't get social cues, I think. On the contrary, I am very observant of the people around me. I just don't react much to it, is all.

So I kind of need a way out of this madness, ykno? And that's where this lovely blog comes in. It gives me a place to vent up my inner thoughts and feelings, even if I can't verbalize them spontaneously.

when i first started out in fandoms, it was on twitter but the community i was in was rather small or at least not active on twitter as much (and we were all vibing, no discourse), so this community most definitely is scary on twitter. i hope you are doing alright and aren't getting harassed!

don't get me wrong i have gripes with certain parts of the game but to consider it a reason to hate the whole thing is jsut kind of absurd to me, like is it really so much of a problem that it takes away from the whole experience?

mother 2 i agree the damsel thing is like whatever, and i'm not sure about the japanese version but the localization was like "oh i chose to be like that" and its like. kind of believable because she also kicks ass in the psi department. ness' psi, sure he's got rockin', is sort of on a similar place as ninten where most of his moves are support (paralysis, flash [i know it has kill chance but its so low it might as well not be more of a support move], im pretty sure he got shields as well but its been a minute since i played m2) while the rest of the offense goes over to the female party member. poo kind of breaks that though so like fair fair

mother 3? there's only so much you can put in a gba cartridge. i hate chapter 3 as well but it's made to have us see how the fuck everything gone to shit? yknow, to give context to the plot? don't get me wrong, i do wish kumatora was developed more, but i wish that for just about everyone in the game. sure she was kind of an afterthought it may appear but there was definitely plans for her according to the background context

here are my fresh thoughts on it

visually, the film is stunning. the thing about doctor strange films is that the film production is absolutely allowed to go ham with the cinematography. mystical shit, bitch, absolutely weird. it was why the first was my favorite, and why i anticipated this one (probably not as much as i did for nwh, but what can i say lmao spiderman funny i am tired college freshman epic !!!)

like some of my favorite shots or scenes were definitely homages to horror films. the reflection/mirror dimension parts going for the ring, and the tunnel chase scene being what i think is an homage to the shining (?). a lot of those are scattered throughout MoM, and i thought those were really cool. thank u mr raimi

plot-wise? not good.

lemme just narrow it down to some points,

wherein the screenwriters, evidently,:

did NOT pick up on the nuances of stephen and christine's pre-canon lovers-to-friends arc in his first film

surely, only solely watched the what if? series to put in the concept of strange feeling more romantic love than he actually did in the mcu (to be fair, ol' cabbagepatch really sells it well, it's the VA expertise in him)

did NOT watch wandavision,

OR took away from it the idea that wanda only became a... questionably redeemable villain. yknow, after she took down a witch who would only hoard and harness her powers to herself without the guarantee of westview being set free

ignored the fact that wanda herself imposed seclusion and self-exile after westview, because That is how she learned to let go and so that she wouldnt hurt anyone anymore

DEFINITELY ignored the fact that people like monica, darcy, and jimmy acknowledged that she was at the peak of her grief, and knew she was ultimately good underneath all of that

kinda forgot about billy and tommy's powers, and how if they had used them against the scarlet witch in defense by the end, it would likely still make the point they wanted it to

uhhh once again denied a character who has suffered throughout her life even the tiniest sliver of a redemption arc OR real mental help that can be talked about. she doesnt visibly come out of there alive, there's no small seconds of her facing justice but getting proper healing and adjustment that she needed. they literally said that the darkhold (if i am spelling it right, edits abound) corrupts the user. ok, and as the scarlet witch, a literal nexus being, one of the most powerful people out there, couldnt be given the chance to gradually overcome that by the end?,, what is the point of establishing her as a key figure if she justs becomes the big bad to be vanquished at the end of the day?

also lol skipped over mordo being "the guy that tries to kill doctor strange every now and again", like he didnt have a large role in the first film

and many other weak points that may come to mind later on

so, basically, you mean to tell me that throughout all of wanda maximoff's life in the mcu, she never gets another channel for her grief, and that is how exactly she dies? her story doesn't become one of those that essentially say, you get to carve your own destiny and your position or actions or whatever people say dont make you completely evil. no, no, it doubles down on the fact that she's a wicked woman, or turned into one because she lost her kids.

also its crazy because.. idk if it's the angry wanda stan in me right now just after watching the movie, but i cannot remember what stephen's role was. was his arc set on becoming the guardian and mentor for america chavez? was it another lesson for him on how actions have consequences and so does his pride? or was it solely hinged on love and want for christine? hm. he's the titular character.

great cg tho thats what im saying, and all these actors still bring all theyve got to the table despite the weak script.

honestly, way back at the beginning before more details of the film's production were announced, i thought mordo would be the antagonist. y'know, because they alluded to that in the first film's end credits scenes AND because he just is in the comics. like he'd do something or find a way to fuck up sorcerers and magic in the multiverse, because he literally said "no more sorcerers" or smth like that after his disillusionment with the ancient one, so it would be up to a doctor strange/scarlet witch teamup to stop him. and ofc wanda and stephen could have their debate on who's more villainized and why, but still have them be on the same ground. you would expect wanda to be tempted by mordo, with the promise of her children or universes where she's with them and her husband and her brother, but she wouldnt be the total rushed villain and redemption would at least still be on the table. stuff like that, yknow.

(altho john krasinski as reed richards is cool in concept. it fits, and id like to see more of him in that role ngl.

sir patrick stewart as professor x... definitely done dirty with his quick death [as is the case with all members of the illuminati, why are they in charge if they can get taken out like that] but otherwise extremely cool to show his impact And his powers. you could feel that he's got the heart when he went into wanda's mind for a bit. i personally havent watched the x-men films in his and sir ian mckellen's era, and yet somehow because ive got flashes of knowing about it from childhood i get to feel like ive missed him. thats fun)

so did i enjoy it? kinda, yea. a 6-7/10

would i watch it again? only for the sheet music battle scene because i want to properly hear the soundtrack to see how it fits the moment.

otherwise, no. i'd rather rewatch the first doctor strange film, wandavision, and any other fan fix-its.

That’s how I feel too yeah, and like, honestly, that ask was sent while I was still high on the “cRanboo is literally made of love” “he’s alive and happy” stuff (which is still making me happy to be fair, oh my god cRanboo is literally made of love it makes so much sense…), but after sleeping on it. I’m like. Really upset with how it turned out. The idea of the ending was really good, I like how it’s thematic that c!Ranboo has to choose a person one last time yknow. It makes sense he would choose Michael, it makes sense he would be content with being by himself where nobody can hurt him and his son. But the way it was executed..

If you don’t mind me rambling a bit; the most integral part of c!Ranboo’s story, besides love, was the mystery. Watching this dude fall apart as he tries to piece together who he is, what he is, why he does the things he does. What the Enderwalk is, the lessons, just all these little puzzle pieces we see cRanboo frantically try to put together throughout the entire story. And we just… never see the payoff to that? We never see c!Ranboo find out who they, or even come to terms with the idea of never finding out, and finding peace in the freedom of not giving a shit who he is. We never get to hear their thoughts on this new situation they’ve found themself in (which, a lot of the enjoyment of c!Ranboo comes from his inner thoughts and monologues and how well cc!Ranboo is able to portray all that). We don’t even get to see them come back to life after the turmoil he went through in limbo. Just… a thread from a third party character explaining things to us that we missed, and it creates this weird barrier wall between us and c!Ranboo that never used to be there. The best part of c!Ranboo was seeing things through their eyes, to hear their thoughts on things, to see how their mind works and what an enigma it is.

There’s so much that could have been done. Hell it would have probably been more satisfying if the thread was written by c!Ranboo, because then we’d see their perspective, thoughts, and feelings on the situation. It sort of feels like a slap in the face for getting invested in this character beyond surface level. I’m sure cc!Ranboo did the best they could under the circumstances I just. I dunno. I dunno.

At the risk of sounding whiny, every other long-term dsmp character got a final stream/is getting a final stream. We got a twitter thread on an alt account. Idk. Whatever.

WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS IS JUST BULLSHIT I MADE UP IN MY BRAIN:

-1. their respective relationships w/ the place they came from. this is the one that inspired this post, and is way more compelling with the context that in my hc laventon left galar bc he didn't want to make war machines, and is basically seeking asylum in hisui. so i don't think he regrets leaving, bc it was for his own safety and moral standards, but still, he's the person that's probably furthest from home in the entire galaxy team, and he misses it deeply, and also is very worried about the people and places he left behind that are still potential casualties of war. compare with: ingo, who on the one hand can acutely sympathize with missing a home that you can never go back to, but there's two vital contrasts btwn them:

-1.1. laventon knows where galar is and routinely gets updates about how it's doing via the guild, and all of them are bad, and he's basically a spectator with no ability to change it. vs ingo who doesn't have the faintest idea where he would even look for information. so: is it better to have a window back that causes nothing but pain, or to be completely in the dark?

-1.2. laventon left home of his own free will, and feels a bit like he functionally abandoned it, and has to deal with the guilt of that. in comparison, ingo was forced to leave, and i think despite knowing it's not really fair he feels a bit like it abandoned him. which is another direct opposition.

-2. again for very different reasons, but they're both trying to bring pokemon and humans closer together even tho the people they directly answer to Don't Like It. laventon formed the survey corps on kamado's very thin permission, and ingo has a bunch of partners that he spars with constantly and probably feels like he should encourage more of the clans to have partners as well

-2.1. ingo having not much evidence-based understanding of how pokemon work (because he forgot all of it) but still instinctively having zero fear of them and a very good sense for how to handle them, vs laventon who is actually a scientist doing research but has, yknow, a reasonable wariness of the things that can sometimes shoot rock-vaporizing lasers. but again, both of them are ultimately drawn to and working with pokemon

-2.2 also they're both people who hold positions of respect in their groups, but despite that have opinions/beliefs that alienate them from the group at large. laventon is like the only straight-up scientist in the team and seems to be kind of a polymath (and in my hc is also their most valuable translator) (and also like, basically heads the survey corps. i know cyllene nominally has that position but like it was His idea and she's so bad at saying no to him), but also wants to encourage pokemon collaboration when most of the team finds that stupid dangerous. ingo's a warden, obviously, but, also obviously, his origins/mannerisms/opinions on pokemon training make it impossible for the pearl clan at large to ever treat him as Theirs.

-3. this one's not very thought out but i feel like the survey corps (researching pokemon behavior+abilities), and a man who is very good at handling them and making them show off battle abilities without Killing people, would probably get along very well. ingo is like the world's best source of data

-4. laventon invented pokeballs and brought them to hisui and ingo immediately started using them. this isn't really a direct parallel but i think it's a cute interaction

so anyway! i might be forgetting some. BUT. that's my case. i think they make good narrative parallels and also should be bffs and i wish there was more content of them interacting

the parallels btwn ingo and laventon tho drive me crazy (<- talking about something i made up out of thin air)

Some headcanons for the vanilla au as it is (if this conflicts with something the og creators said just pretend it’s not there):

Much like in the actual show the city is unaware of anything about WG’s private life, so they didn’t know she was Boxlietner’s daughter and they don’t know she’s Twobrain’s daughter. HOWEVER, some citizens HAVE been suspicious of Wg’s “True alliances” because they have caught her being friendly with Tb, and the press sees her hanging around his warehouse often

I like to imagine there’s an “episode” in this au where one of the other villains takes advantage of this paranoia, because Fair City is just far too happy to turn on wg, and it spirals into convincing everyone that WG is secretly planning some sort of alien invasion with the help of the eeeeeevil scientist Doctor Twobrains

It’s unclear in the show if the majority of the city knows that Boxlietner is Twobrains, but there were likely a lot of complications with the people who did know Steven before.

Becky tries to keep her parentage a secret after Squeaky happens to avoid being taken away by child services

A rumor spreads that Becky is an orphan among the other kids because Steven is nowhere to be seen ever since he changed into TB

This rumor causes a whole fiasco leading to the authorities indeed being called, and TB has to go through a significant amount of hijinks to prove that he’s still a capable parent. Becky has to help him.

After TB being her father is revealed he is just (in Becky’s eyes) The worst about it. Like this man is the PTA king, he fights with the Karen moms and flirts with every other single (sometimes not single) parent at the school. He flirts with her teacher too which makes Becky actively want to arrest him right then and there. He also brings Becky’s things she forgot at home in THE most flamboyant way possible. He’s not doing it on purpose, he’s just like that, but he’s never opposed to embarrassing his beloved daughter/nemesis. 

Violet is worried for Becky at first and Scoops writes a paper on it. Becky has them over for a playdate and makes tb PROMISE to making Violet feel at ease

Charlie and Meatloaf stay up late and watch Pretty Princess with her behind TB’s back

Whenever TB goes to Jail Becky can just come over and hang out. It’s like their second house at this point.

The other villains are generally very fond of Becky and will chat with her when she’s over at the prison. Whenever they curse wordgirl’s name or vow their revenge in front of her she and TB share a look like “I know something you donnnn’t”

TB teases her relentlessly about both Tobey and Scoops

If TB commits a crime during the school day (he tries not to but the mouse wants what it wants y'know) Sometimes he’ll chastise Becky for leaving school, and Becky is just like ಠ_ಠ

One time TB almost got away with a crime because he also stole her favorite ice cream and said they could have it after dinner if she let him get away. ALMOST.

I like to imagine in this AU whatever father/daughter problems they have don’t really come from Squeaky, that’s just treated like a business thing, but they come from issues that the characters already had (like, yknow, in life)

Steven and TB both have a tendency to get hyper focused on something to the point where Becky might feel a little neglected, but once he gets a sense of this he goes absolutely overboard with trying to make it up to her, and it’s just too much because she just wants to spend time with him

Becky gets really paranoid that her dad is going to hurt himself with an invention, and it only got worse when he became TB. She invades his privacy and invalidates his trust in her around his lab a lot without realizing it because of this.

Steven was really good friends with Sally and Tim, and reconnected with them after the cat got let out of the bag (so to speak) that he was Twobrains. Tj and Becky see each other a lot because of this and still have the exact same sibling dynamic, to the point where they will just refer to each other as “my annoying older sister/annoying little brother” 

The episode where he lets Squeaky take control still happens (Squeaky forces it more this time around) but in this version Becky thinks she can get through to TB that he’s going too far and might actually kill her, so she gets shot and then when TB comes back in control he holds her in his arms yelling for her to come back to him 

After Becky gets the shit kicked out of her and her heart broken in Rhyme and Reason Twobrains decides that he’s permanently grounding her from being a superhero because we as a society need to make that episode even more painful for Becky

It all works out in the end ofc and things go back to the status quo

Twobrains has been secretly trying and failing to make a device that can contact Lexicon for Becky. He’s still trying.
