supernatural s14e12 prophet and loss (w. brad buckner, eugenie ross-leming)

feel like i'm just grinding through s14 at a decent pace. several times now they've made me had minor (to moderate) breakdowns and i just want to keep plowing through because i don't want the breakdowns to last more than one day 🫠 been a long time since a season made me cry so much. and especially with mid-season episodes? but it feels more.... hm. calculated. like when i bitched about 4 months suddenly equals 40 years in hell etc.

ranted about it in 9x09 because i don't think i was making my feelings known here for every episode back in s4

instead i just sighed because “trust me, kevin” and “i always end up screwed :)” so now dean’s gonna feel guilty. he’s already feeling guilty enough, did we need that too? when they push too hard on the excessive dean whump, i get annoyed. like the whole 4 months=40 years, i enjoyed torturing people, etc. edgelord bullshit :P

except instead of getting mad about it being edgelord bullshit now, i'm just feeling brokenhearted and manipulated. very not fun times. it's too much too close together to the jack thing and too similar to things they've done in the past, i think. is why it's pushing me away so hard.

well. dean's nightmare was awful. shades of him in hell calling out for sam. cannot fucking wait until this particular plotline gets snuffed out. and because i can't deal with not comparing this interstellar-ish music (it's in both spn scenes) i tacked it on to the end of this video too.

this reminds me a lot of the conversations in s5 about sammy going in the cage.

and like when i was watching the old guard, i'm like ah yes, stuck in a coffin in the ocean drowning over and over because you're immortal - i have heard this story before! on the vampire diaries! someone... stefan?? was stuck in a ...... safe? and pushed into a lake to repeatedly die and revive. 500 years and 3 months, respectively.

SAM Man, I left that behind a long time ago. I had to. And if we’re gonna get through this, I-I have to do like you said and… try and keep my mind off of where we’re going. So, if we could not have conversations that sound like… deathbed apologies, I would really appreciate it. DEAN Right. Yeah.

listen i know this gets resolved somehow and i'm not gonna bail on this fucking project with a little more than a season left but i can't express how much i don't want to watch something that's making me cry so hard my head is killing me (more than it was already) on a regular basis. this is too many things that cut too close to home with characters i'm too attached to. sigh.

I’m on my first full watch of Justified and loved seasons 1 through 4, enough that it’s already in my top shows ever. Now, season 5 is… well, let’s just say I’m finding it a bit weaker than previous seasons to put it nicely. So I figured I’d try to compile some bright spots as I go to help me (and anyone else who might like/need them) reach season 6:

- Raylan’s still handsome as anything (as Rachel said in the first season, it definitely helps him get away with things). Sigh, I like to watch him walk. Also, his accent is a little heavier in this season (in my opinion), which I think is a great acting touch. Side note: Raylan remains a disaster but I love him anyway.

- The comedy duo of Boyd and Wynn

- Loretta McCready, I adore you.

- Wynn’s interrogation with the BB gun

- Raylan and Boyd being Raylan and Boyd in episode 4. “Raylan Givens, are you flattering me?” They dug coal together okay, their flirting and intricate courtship rituals are incomprehensible to anyone but them. Though I love how all the characters are like you're not fooling anyone. The way they leaned back against the bar and looked at each other — Boyd try not to look so fond of the lawman who keeps interrupting your criminal activities.

- Tim Gutterson and Rachel Brooks

- Tim and Boyd playing Scrabble. I loved the little glimpse of this and wish the scene had been longer. Like what word did Boyd play that he asked if Tim wanted to challenge? Who was winning? Inquiring minds want to know.

So I’ve been installing mods on DA:O, mostly quality of life and minor gameplay mods because I’m new to all this and don’t really know what I’m doing yet, and I’ve come across something that, well, really annoys me. The number of mods (ie more than 0) which claim to make Wynn “more beautiful” or “more attractive” and then proceed to make her look younger.

First of all, age is not the antithesis of beauty and second of all, HAVE YOU SEEN WYNN????

This woman is STUNNING. Tell me you wouldn’t have a portrait of her hanging in your house just because she makes any space she’s in more beautiful simply by existing, and I’ll know you are a fool and a liar.

2. Did you reread anything? What?

Gosh yes! It looks like I reread A Shepherd's Life by James Rebanks back almost a year ago (in fact, I think I started that reread in 2023), and I reread several things by Diana Wynne Jones (Dogsbody, Stopping for a Spell, the first 4 books in the Chrestomanci series). I definitely reread a few mysteries here and there - I was rereading the Benjamin January series by Barbara Hambly pretty steadily for the first half of the year, but stopped at some point and might pick that up in the new year. Also I reread Gideon the Ninth and Harrow the Ninth in preparation to read Nona the Ninth for the first time (I know Nona had been out, but I'm not always on top of new releases).

3. What were your top five books of the year?

So hard to choose from all the stuff I read - however! I read a lot of series, so I had StoryGraph show only books not part of a series, and picked from those. In no particular order:

Emma (Jane Austen; oh yeah, I reread this too)

The Waterman (Tim Junkin)

The Shepherd's Life (James Rebanks)

Becoming (Michelle Obama)

Dogsbody (Diana Wynne Jones)

8. Did you meet any of your reading goals? Which ones?

I try not to set official goals cause I think it's better for me overall, but I will admit that for the last few years I've hit over 200 books and I was thinking I might not get there this year. But I'm at 199 (and a half) books right now with the rest of the year off from work and school, so I guess I'll hit 200 after all!
