Supernatural would have been in a very different place if it stuck more to convoluted gothic horror storylining where it's dark uncomfortable messy and riddled with depth and human nature (which samdean's relationship tackles in the best compelling way) less on mindless reruns of boss fight of boss fight of boss fight that plays on satisfying a mindless audience's happy neuron

I wish they’d made supernatural even weirder. Like shit they could only have gotten away with on HBO weird. Graphic and obscene violence of a strange and sexual nature. Dean washing Sam’s dead body, holding him on a moldy mattress like he’s a baby again!! Sam and Dean open mouth breathing foreheads pressed together because sam almost died again levels of weird. Show me how Sam knows he can’t die, that Lucifer won’t let him. I want to see Sam eat a bullet, bleed himself out in a tub. I want to see Dean find out. Give me cold and ruthless Cas for longer. No one can ever kill their father in this show! I want to see them try! I want to see Dean agonise over his dads warning! Stand over Sam’s sleeping body with a gun! Lay down next to him, temple to temple and think about shooting!!! Sam has faith in god and then spends 10 years being tortured by him!!! What does that mean!!! Mark of Cain!! They are Cain and Abel, interchangeably!!! Sam already died in a field!!! Dean was already buried in one!! What does that mean!!!! I want violence and pain and enmeshment!!! They cannot live together!!! They cannot survive apart!!! Dean wants to tuck Sam in his chest behind his ribs!!! Sam wants to crawl inside Dean! I just find rehashing 10 year old tweets disingenuous, when quite a few of your followers have Dean/Jensen in their screen name. Their fave isn’t exactly unproblematic, and a lot of it more recent like promoting Russian propaganda and appearing on Michael Weatherly’s podcast.

Uhhhh, someone asked me what I was referring to when I said Jared had a Twitter Menace Era…and so I explained my perspective. And I had visuals. I think that’s just how the “asks” feature was designed to work on this platform. 🤷🏻‍♀️

This fandom and the knee-jerk trauma response to immediately make it about a tit-for-tat is exhausting. “BUT WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER GUY?? 😭” As if that negates the original set of information.

Jensen is also a moderate who plays it safe and cowardly with his political messaging and makes money via music with Steve The Bigot. Danneel made a comment in support of Israel on the podcast with the One Tree Hill chicks. Do I have permission to talk about Jared yet? 🙄

Honestly, a good majority of celebrities suck in their own way and are only out for themselves and their own pockets at the end of the day. They don’t actually care about you all that much. Eat the rich. If anon actually read this blog instead of seeing some minor accountability aimed at Jared and then riding in on their white horse, they would know that I feel this way.

What’s disingenuous is the revisionist history that many fans want to see so they don’t have to acknowledge that they gleefully look the other way in support of their preferred celebs. But that is the nature of fandom: Fanatics.

What’s disingenuous is acting like poor cinnamon roll Jared’s poor choices can’t even be discussed WHEN SOMEONE ASKS FOR CLARIFICATION unless I also make an Excel Spreadsheet with all the historic wrongs of the rest of the Spn cast, crew, and spouses. Like, where does it end? Ask someone else to keep score.

Author's Note: I wrote this a few years ago, never intending to really show this to anyone, but then I saw this Joel Miller Fanfic and the request that it spawned from, and I couldn't help but think maybe I could share this story on tumblr.

This is an original character story, created long before I became a part of the Pedro character fandom, but the main lead does have Latino/Hispanic heritage by coincidence.

The idea for this formed from wanting an mpreg story that wasn't treated like a joke or too over the top. I wanted to write something someone who isn't really into mpreg might enjoy anyway, because that's not all this is about. It's about friendship and family (and some cruel mad scientists).

I'm a very sentimental person. What drew me to mpreg was seeing a softer side to a male character (specifically one born male) - that's all. Plus it makes for some humorous freaking out because bio males aren't supposed to fill this role, blah, blah, blah. I really enjoy making the boys weirded out by the flipped role situation (hopefully their reactions feel realistic - this is why this is an original character fic instead of a fanfic).

Cade And Kamilah aren't really based on any characters, but Noah has a little hint of Dean Winchester (SPN) in him. Cool guy, even cooler leather jacket. ;)

OMG I'm SO glad you liked it and 8.5 is a fantastic score too! I wasn't sure if you were gonna like the different style of Bollywood - the camera angles, the scenarios, the music, the excessive action scenes (in this one particularly) so I'm both surprised and glad. I've always loved your comprehensive reviews on movies/series (I dropped Spn a long time ago and I don't care about J2 but your takes are so good that I still read your posts) I read this one 3-4 times lol

I agree on Sahir being isolated like Samar, problematic as hell too, and he showed this side of him by being too controlling and manipulative, to the point where he only let him go outside only on Sundays, between certain hours, to certain places, and he lost his temper over a simple date Samar wanted to go on. I think the relationship between them was rather toxic and codependent.

ALSO CAN YOU BELIEVE AAMIR WAS ALMOST 50 IN THAT MOVIE?? MY MAN CAN BULK OUT ON THE COOL HE'S CRAZYYY

It helps that I memory-holed the terrible acting from the non-Indian actors lol. Dhoom 3 is hugely entertaining because it gleefully embraced the extremes and stretched the imagination into its breaking point, especially the super motorcycles. Batman would have loved those motorcycles.

Sahir and Samar could give Sam and Dean a run for their money in the psychotically codependent department.

Whoa Aamir was nearly 50? Aaaaaaaaabs..

Unlike a lot of good looking actors, he's not distracted by knowing his own attractiveness so he acts for the camera instead of to the camera. He infused his villainous Sahir with passion and dignity and doomed innocence in Samar.

Yisssssssssss, that's the thing! Also, while SPN is wonderful with playing with musical score, we could have some of the more recognizable soundtrack elements set to ridiculously discordant styles.

Okay, but while we're on the topic of Episodes that Never Were (TM), Genre Conventions would have been an epic match to Changing Channels.

I also re-watched all of SPN about a year ago and it is amazing how, if you watch it back-to-back in a short period of time (rather than in little interrupted bits over 15 years), there are just so many small and big things that add up to a fairly inescapable conclusion about Dean. Reading Dean as straight requires you to ignore the mountain of story detail and structure that clearly indicates that he is absolutely not straight. The conclusion that he is queer is actually more easily defensible than the conclusion that he isn't.

The idea that it was all a big accident is really ridiculous, too. The writers wrote that story! They dressed sets and set up lights! They scored scenes with swelling romantic music! They made it very clear in so many ways! Jensen Ackles showed up for every episode with all his considerable powers turned up to 11, and obviously understood the assignment! Misha! I mean... MISHA!?

Those people knew what they were about. They told us a queer story. And I wish we could all, collectively, just let that fact into our hearts.

the thing is that if you take each individual queer!dean moment in isolation you can look at them and go 'wow straight people are fucking oblivious huh' but if you zoom out a little and start looking at the whole picture there is very clearly a purposeful pattern happening there from the writing to the acting to the directing to the editing and i know these days it's a crime worthy of being dragged through the public square to say hey actually maybe the people working on the show supernatural knew what they were doing but um maybe the people working on the show supernatural knew what they were doing

I’m a sucker for original soundtracks, so I put together this compilation of original musical scores used in Supernatural available so far. It includes the official Supernatural soundtrack from seasons 1-5, Christopher Lennertz’s complete season 1 soundtrack, and 50 miscellaneous scores used in seasons 1-15. It is a total of 96 tracks composed by Christopher Lennertz, Jay Gruska, Timothy Wynn, Philip White, and Ernie Mannix.

listen but. Not to be pedantic on main about the music studies thing or anything but. You can’t just slap parts of the track onto scenes. without considering the parts of the melodies you’re using and whether or not you’re actually using the leitmotifs, and also like. the leitmotif MEANINGS.

the original scene with the MoC Dean beatdown was really good! Dean’s family dedication theme from Americana came on at JUST the right time! (”Dean. Stop”). It plays thru with imo very effective instrumentation (viola, it sounds like? and something kind of plaintive, maybe a synth? a woodwind of some sort?) 

it suspends and cuts off as Dean goes to stab down. there’s no scoring as he gets up. the scoring comes back as we see Cas revealed, with the blade next to his head in a book. a suspension note comes back in to ease it into the last few chords, which happen after Dean says “you and Sam stay the hell away from me.” the last few chords of the theme resolve as he says “next time I won’t miss” but the last chord resolves when we cut back to Cas, bloody, staring at the blade.

That’s incredibly effective! putting part of the “castiel’s theme + Americana” doesn’t... actually do much for that scene, especially bc you’d have to use the identifiable leitmotif to really convey meaning there.

So recently (today) I found out that Isn’t It Bromantic? is an actual soundtrack song for Supernatural, and a friend of mine recognized it from being used in several scenes with Cas and Dean, and in my completely scientific search for scenes that use this arrangement, I of course went to Thee Scene with Thee Yellow Curtains in Lost and Found first.

I’m not a musically inclined person, so someone more gifted or knowledgeable correct me, but the music that plays sounds awfully similar to Dean’s Family Dedication Theme (Americana) but it’s definitely modified.

I just can’t tell if it’s because they simply made it more sombre, or if they supplemented Dean’s theme with Cas’ Theme like they would later do the reverse for in Despair. Because Cas’ Theme sounds like it has a heavier violin section and a lullaby piano toward the beginning. Meanwhile, in Dean’s Theme when the violins swell, it definitely doesn’t have the lullaby sound. The piano is sharper.

But the lullaby piano mixed with the similar arrangement to Dean’s Theme is striking emotions in me.

I just wish I could find an OST for Supernatural anywhere. I love the themes for the characters, and don’t get me wrong being able to hear Jay Gruska’s works like Meatsuit Mambo and the full Americana (which Dean’s Theme is off of) from the first five seasons is nice, but the music used in sequences like Lost and Found are so compeling and I wish there was a place for me to listen to those.
