Disney fans who despise the live action remakes how do I convince my husband the 90s live action 101 Dalmatian movies starring the queen Glenn Close are different from the current remake trash?
I'll fight anyone who lumps them in there, Glenn Close did her fucking homework to be Cruella, which wasn't fucking hard homework it was just "sometimes people suck and oh boy does Cruella suck" but SHE FUCKING DID IT WHICH IS MORE THAN CAN BE SAID FOR SOME OF THESE OTHERS. COUGH COUGH. SNOW FUCKING WHITE.

Ok @galacticnightsky123 ya talked me into it xD
Here's a redesign for the Live Action Snow White cuz goodness knows it needs all the help it can get
Tumblr media
I wanted to keep the hallmarks of the classic dress but, in the words of the goldstandard of Disney Live Action Remakes "key it up a bit".
I tried to tie the dress more into a Renaissance time period while still keeping it fairytaley. I also wanted to give it something new to help set it apart from the original dress, ala Cinderella's with her butterlfies. So I decided to give Snow her own symbol, in universe.
Disney always gives her apple imagery but I felt that wouldn't make sense in the story itself, so I opted for a snowdrop flower, as that's actually her name in an earlier version of the Grimm's story.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also did some deigns for her peasant dress, tying it back in more to the time period (was delighted to find the wooden shoes were period accurate) and I also designed a day-dress for her to wear as well. This would be something made later at the dwarf's cottage. A lot easier to run around the woods and clean in then that big old ball gown xD
Also I think I'd pull in a bit of the old Snow White stageplay as well, in this hypothetical rewrite, and have the Queen be pretending to send Snow White off to school, or maybe even pretending to send her to visit the Prince, with the intention of having her killed along the road, to explain why she's all dolled up in such a fancy dress.
Tumblr media
Finally I couldn't resist doing a wedding dress for her, based of course on the old concept art from the og movie for the wedding scene we didn't get.
Hope ya'll enjoy! I don't know if I'll do more redesigns (maybe Belle's gown at least) but this was fun! Thanks for the suggestion!

One of the worst things Disney has ever done was getting rid of The Disney Vault/Theatrical re-releases and replacing them with The "Live Action" Disney remakes.

Me: Disney live action films are unnecessary cash grabs
Also me: so Michael Sheen and David Tennant need to play Pain and Panic respectively in the inevitable Hercules live action

So, I'm very late to the party and finally watched Maleficent today, and was wondering if you wrote for her, by any chance?
Y/N is dragged before Maleficent…
Maleficent: you dare break through the sacred Moor?
Y/N: I-I didn’t mean any harm
Maleficent saunters up to Y/N taking their chin in her hand…
Maleficent: hmm…you carry no ill will. You are…tempting. I may just have to keep you
Maleficent giggles as she pulls a happy Y/N up into her arms…

LAAAAAAAME
You never know, maybe Disney wont chicken out with Pleakley and it's just not in the trailer. But even beyond that the sauce is just not there. Maybe it's not a good representative since it's just one small moment. But it's such a meh moment.
Lilo and Stitch themselves are honestly fine.

This is from the Instagram of the voice of Princess Tiana, Anika Noni Rose, encouraging fans to use their numbers to send Disney a message about Princess & the Frog Content.
And I am showing it to you because numbers matter. Whether or not you go see the new movies they put out, or stream them on Disney+, matters. It goes both ways. For things you want to see happen, and things you don’t want to see.
Only one thing moves this company anymore and it is numbers. Whether or not people are watching = whether or not they’re spending money.
They HAVE changed their content based on NUMBERS before.
If you go and hate-watch Lilo & Stitch (2025,) or if you just watch it because “eh I have a free weekend and it’s something to watch,” or if you just watch it because “looks cute,” that is going to directly effect what they make next.
They are going to say “we made x-amount of money because x-amount of people sat in the seats or clicked Play. So let’s make a Live-Action Tangled but make Rapunzel bland and personality-less and Flynn Rider useless comedy relief. Then let’s re-brand all the dolls and pins and merch they love to look like our lamer Live-Action version, to promote it. Let’s graft on association with a terrible movie to their treasured memories of a favorite movie. They won’t like it but they’ll buy a ticket so we’re doing it.”
Look at it This Way:
If I said, “just don’t go see this specific movie this month, and I promise you, Disney will make a movie that you’ll remember for the rest of your life and love rewatching over and over again and someday you’ll show it to your kids and it’ll be sown into the fabric of their nostalgia, it’ll be their The Lion King. All you have to do is wait, don’t go see this movie they’re putting out now.”
You would do it, wouldn’t you? You’d say, “fine, I’ll just do something else this weekend. If I miss the music and the characters and love them so much, I’ll just re-watch the old one. I’ll get some friends together who’ve never seen it so I can vicariously experience it through them all over again. It won’t be new but it’s worth the sacrifice of they’ll wind up making better, excellent movies for me to add to my collection of treasured memories because of it.”
You could have a brand new Treasure-Planet level adventure if you’d only ACCEPT NO TRASH and insist that your time and money are valuable.
Quit letting them sucker you and manipulate you. They take your money and they kill your beloved franchises and they do it by marketing the Live-Actuon Remakes as if it’s a celebration of what you love when actually it’s a huge middle finger to what you love and to your intellect and to your taste. And while they do that, they risk nothing and they make things cheap and they’re cheating you.
“Just play the music from our old movies over the new trailer and they’ll come flocking into the seats buying our tickets and our merch.”
I’m tired of this. You’re tired of this. Let’s just act like we’re tired of it, okay? Let’s stop saying “it’s not going to be as good as the original but it’ll still be good.” No it won’t! No! This is bad business! Bad taste! Bad company-consumer relations! Bad art!
Let’s stop being like this.
May 23rd, you know what we’re doing? We’re having a Lilo & Stitch watch party. Lilo & Stitch, 2002. And it’s going to be awesome and it will not disappoint us and it will show them that we are not easy marks with slippery wallets, poor taste, and no brains.
Knock it off! Jeez.

Just a little in between work sketch of Rachel Zegler's Snow White. This particular shot from the trailer has been making the rounds online, for the way the styling around Rachel has been disappointing some people. I'm finding I haven't been too fussed about the aesthetic they've been going for, but I can definitely see where improvements could have been made. Overall, I'm liking what I've been seeing, and I'm really interested in how they've interpreted the fairy tale this time around.
But just for fun, had I been the one to approach the way her hair was styled in the movie, I would have been really tempted to lean into a tangled mess of princess hair - curls and braids and laces. When I think "Snow White", Trina Schart Hyman's illustrations aren't far away in my mind and I think that really influences how I see her in my head. But I do feel that the short hair is an absolute staple for the Disney version, and I know they would want to capitalize on that look.
