Today, January 20th is such a big and important day in American History and you should all be glued to your screens to bear witness to this monumental event. I am of course talking about celebrating the 19th anniversary of the release of High School Musical.

I love how this is a scientifically accurate description of false vacuum decay.

Watched the first two episodes of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and it's funny enough (I know it doesn't really shine until Frank joins).
But I have a unique problem where the second hand embarrassment might become too much for me and I have to stop. Big reason I couldn't finish Nathan for You.
I know these people deserve to always lose but I can already tell it's gonna get to a point where seeing them fuck up and take down other people with them will make me cringe myself inside out.
(I'm not gonna stop watching but that's my early vibe from watching the show so far)

I've always found this reading extremely strange, given an entire episode ending was devoted to him wanting to reunite with his father and his father rejecting coming to meet him, with it framed as a sad thing from both sides, an event in their past that just broke their relationship in a way where the father did not want to rebuild it.
It could definitely still be abuse, with a complicated story about Elliot still wanting to meet him despite their relationship being toxic, but I just did not see this framing at all.
Coupled with the fact that he states that the worst thing he ever did he did for Damien Moreau, and the other hitter mentioning that they usually take out the entire family, and I always just assumed Elliot especially cared about kids not just because they're the most vulnerable in society, but because he had to kill a kid in the past (this is also why he thinks he can never be redeemed btw).
Devil's Advocate: It's easier to say all this in hindsight watching the entire series at once rather than waiting for each episode and season to come out. Plus, it's a compelling take on his character. But I just never saw it.
Thinking again about the discussion around "The Fractured Job" rewriting Eliot's backstory and undoing the original series' implication that he was abused by his father. It's a 100% valid read that's supported by the text, but it's also worth noting that it wasn't intended by the creators (at least John Rogers, who's been pretty vocal about it).
From "The Tap-Out Job" commentary:
John Rogers: “And there is—you know, a lot of people look at this one, and ‘Order 23,’ to think that maybe Eliot had been abused or something as a child, and it’s—that’s facile. This is just a guy with a relationship with violence. He’s beaten up, he’s been tortured, he’s a guy who has learned bad things can happen to you and this is how he internalizes it.”
From "The Order 23 Job" commentary:
John Rogers: “And it's also interesting to see how fans react to any sort of storyline like this, where they just assume you're trying to reveal something about the character’s past or some sort of subtle hints that we’re laying in. It’s like no, Eliot doesn't like guys who beat up kids. It's not—I mean there's plainly other stuff going on that Christian chose in order to base his acting around…”
(Thanks to @leverage-commentary for the transcripts)
I find it interesting that in 2009/2010, he devoted commentary time to debunking this. What that tells me this interpretation was prevalent enough to seem worth addressing (probably because they didn't do themselves any favors with how they told their story, leading a huge chunk of the audience to the same conclusion...)

TikTok ban is an odd thing for me because I'm both not losing it and never made an account so any comment I have on it is more a matter of principle than anything.

Watching The Last Airbender and Korra back to back and my biggest takeaway is that the Earth Kingdom is cursed when it comes to all the people running it. Ba Sing Se might be the worst place in the world to live if you average out the events in every major location across the series (it ties with the Northern Air Temple)
(I'm stil Korra mid Season 4 btw just to fend off spoilers)
