Ogden Thanksgiving. The beginning of the night. [ @jessehart ]
"Oh! Oh my god, hang on," Ollie grabbed the edges of his mom's and Gabriel's shirts pulling them in around him and his dad so the four of them could form a little discussion circle, after he spotted Jesse, and his dad lingering close by. "Okay, so this guy up here-- we hate him, okay?" They all looked behind Ollie, much more obviously than he would have liked. Gabriel the only one being subtle while his parents might as well have been gawking at Jesse and Donovan Hart. "Guys…" Ollie said, putting his hand on the side of his Dad's head and pushing it back, making his parents both laugh. "Come on."
"Do we hate both of them?" His mom asked, "or…?"
"No, that's Jesse. We're really good friends. We hate his dad," Ollie said, nodding his head.
"He's on the television," Gabriel said, and Ollie nodded.
"Yes! He is! He's got like one of those shitty doctor talk shows," he said if his parents didn't know, which they didn't. Most of their time was not spent watching daytime TV as they were probably working most of the time. But being disabled, and out of work, of course Gabriel probably knew. "So, like be really subtle about not liking him though. Like just be chill, and pretend you don't know who he is, and undercut his ego. That's what I've been doing. Okay?" They all nodded, and Ollie gave a responding nod. Plan made he turned back towards the Hart's and lead his family that way. "Hey bro," He greeted Jesse with a smile, and putting a hand on his shoulder, using his free one to motion to the three people with him. "I wanted to introduce you to my family! I don't think you've ever gotten to meet them before." A lot of people had whether it was when they visited campus, or if they came with Ollie to NYC for one reason or the other, but he didn't think Jesse ever had.
"This is my mom Faye," the small currently blonde and curly headed woman gave a casual nod in Jesse's direction. "and my dad Ren," the tall Japanese man waved with a cheerful smile. "And this is Gabriel Jiménez! He's Sam's grandfather," he added with a bright smile. Like it wouldn't be weird, or a controversial decision at all to bring him along to the school's thanksgiving dinner, held right in the commons. Like he wasn't doing it to send some sort of message -- whatever that might be. "I don't know if you ever really met her, but…" he said, waving his hand in dismissal. Though that was a lie. Sam said her and Jesse were friends, of course how good of friends was probably up in the air, but they had known each other, and she did consider him a friend (she considered everyone a friend). Either way Ollie thought it was probably a bad idea to draw any connections between Jesse and Sam in front of Jesse's dad.
"Everyone this is my friend Jesse!" He said, smiling brightly, then moved his hand in the direction of Jesse's dad. "And this is Jesse's dad -- uhm," he held his hand out in the direction of the older man, pausing for a few beats, like he forgot his name and was trying to remember it. "Mr. Hart -- I'm sorry I don't remember… Well, I don't think we've ever actually met, anyway." That was not true, he'd definitely done an interview with him before, which definitely went really really badly. But if he was being honest, he didn't really remember many of those details. He'd been extremely high at the time, so maybe he wasn't lying too much there. "I'm Ollie Inoue, one of Jesse's friends, it's nice to meet you!"

Bombarded, blockaded, stripped of all lifelines, even UNRWA which is a UN organ unjustly labeled as a terror organization. It's like the world keeps daring Gaza to give up, and Gaza keeps stubbornly refusing, just standing there, bruised and battered but still breathing. And the Gazians? We're experts in endurance, living each day with almost nothing, finding ways to hold on, discovering beauty and strength even when it feels like the world is stacked against us.
And then there's GoFundMe. For some, it's a place to fund a dream project; for Gaza, it's become one of the last threads of hope. Every dollar, every small donation, is like a patch on the wound, a tiny light in the dark. Because for us Gazians, resilience isn't just some inspiring buzzword; it's a necessity. But we can't do it alone. So if you've got $5 or $10 to spare, send it our way. Because right now, support isn't just helpful; it's survival.

How was he going to do this? Should he talk to Cyclone? No he needed proof or else the vice-admiral would toss this away.He sat alone in his bunk, towel on his shoulders since he just left the shower, allowing the solitude to reach his thoughts.
He needed a plan—something concrete to address the growing tension within the squadron. The encounter with Mark had left Rooster with a gnawing sense of unease, and the need for proof became more apparent. Without tangible evidence, any accusation against Mark might be dismissed, and Rooster couldn't afford to let the internal discord persist.
He opened a drawer beside his bunk, retrieving a small notebook and a pen. As he flipped through the pages, he paused at an empty one. Rooster began jotting down his observations, creating a timeline of the incidents involving Mark.
His mind traced back to the encounters in the locker room, the condescending remarks, and the private conversations. Rooster scrutinized each detail, searching for a way to connect him to the breach.
Fuck he was nervous.
He never dealt with stuff like this before. Annoying pilots? Sure. Possible threat that could ruin a lot of lives? Never.
Rooster continued to document his observations, creating a meticulous record of each incident. His thoughts drifted to the cryptic conversation Mark had with McAllister. It was a potential lead, a thread to pull, but Rooster needed to approach it cautiously. He considered talking to McAllister directly, seeking more information without revealing the gravity of the situation.
But he also wanted to make sure McAllister wouldn’t be harmed if he did talk…he rubs his chin, still thinking about what he should do. How do you prove that a pilot, a Lieutenant just like he was, was involved in such a thing?
Rooster's fingers drummed on the notebook as he mulled over his options. The weight of responsibility bore down on him, and he couldn't afford to make a misstep.
He decided to start with McAllister, someone he trusted and who had inadvertently given him a glimpse into the mysterious conversations. Rooster closed the notebook with a snap, tucking it away, and made his way to find McAllister.
The squadron's common area was relatively empty as most pilots were still wrapping up post-mission tasks. Rooster spotted McAllister reviewing some mission data on one of the computer terminals. Approaching quietly, Rooster cleared his throat to get McAllister's attention.
"McAllister, can I have a word?" Rooster asked, keeping his tone low-key to avoid unnecessary attention.
McAllister turned toward him, after jumping in surprise a hint of surprise in his eyes. "Sure, sir. What's up?"
“Not here, follow me.”Rooster motioned toward a quieter corner of the room, away from prying ears. Once they were a bit secluded, Rooster leaned in, his expression serious. "You mentioned Mark and the breach, what did you get?"
McAllister's eyes widened slightly, a flicker of nervousness crossing his features. He hesitated before responding, "Well, sir, recruit Haltzman and I were talking after the mission, and he seemed... agitated. He mentioned something about the breach, but he didn't go into specifics. I asked him why and…he said that Mark was bothering him about it."
Rooster's brows furrowed as he absorbed the information. "Did Haltzman mention anything else?" Rooster asked, his voice low and focused.
McAllister shifted uncomfortably, glancing around to ensure no one was eavesdropping. "He said Mark was pressuring him to share information about the breach. Haltzman seemed spooked, sir, like he didn't want to get involved. At all."
Rooster processed the revelation, his mind racing with the need to connect the dots. "Did he say how Mark approached him? Any specifics about their conversations?"
McAllister nodded, recalling the details. "Haltzman mentioned that Mark cornered him in the locker room after the mission. He wanted to know if Haltzman had overheard anything about the breach, and when Haltzman didn't give him any answers, Mark got... intense."
“Did he hurt him?"
McAllister shook his head. "No, sir. He just scared him. But he didn't want to say too much. I didn't push him, didn't want to make things worse for him."
"You did the right thing, McAllister. It's crucial to handle this delicately. We need to gather more information before taking any action."
Fuck.
McAllister glanced around, ensuring their conversation remained private. "Sir, I don't want to sound paranoid, but do you think Mark might be involved in the breach somehow?"
FUCK
Rooster sighed, rubbing his eyelids. "I don't know, McAllister. But we can't ignore anything. We need to find out more, discreetly, without tipping our hand."
"I'll keep my ears open, sir. If I hear anything else, I'll let you know," McAllister assured.
"Good. Stay vigilant, McAllister. We can't afford to underestimate the gravity of this situation," Rooster emphasized. "And for now, let's keep this between us. We don't want to create unnecessary panic until we have more concrete information."
McAllister nodded in agreement. "Understood, sir. I'll be careful."
As Rooster walked away from the conversation, his mind raced with thoughts and strategies. The need for evidence became even more crucial, and Rooster realized he had to tread carefully to avoid any potential backlash.
He noticed the Daggers sitting together and he beelined over to his friends, leaning down to the table and muttering a ‘a word?’. Payback and Jake shared a look before standing up, then Phoenix tried to be as subtle as she could, busying herself with her watch while Bob followed behind them, adjusting his glasses.
Rooster led the Daggers to a quieter corner of the hangar, away from the prying eyes and ears of the squadron. He leaned in, his voice low but firm. "Alright, listen up. I need your observations, discreetly. Something's off with Mark, and it might be connected to the breach."
The Daggers exchanged glances, their expressions shifting from casual to alert. Payback, the intuitive one, spoke first. "What happened, Rooster?"
“Too much.”
Rooster quickly briefed them on McAllister's encounter with Haltzman, emphasizing Mark's suspicious behavior and the potential connection to the breach. If they were surprised…they didn’t show it.
Phoenix crossed her arms, snorting. "I knew it."
“You did?”
“Well…I had a feeling.”
Rooster raised an eyebrow at Phoenix. "You had a feeling? Care to share?"
Phoenix leaned against a nearby crate, her expression thoughtful. "Mark's been acting strange for a while now. I thought it was just the stress of the missions, but if there's something more..." she says, “Besides we wouldn’t do that shit.”
Jake chimed in, his voice low and serious. "...what should we do then?”
Bob adjusted his glasses, a glint of determination in his eyes. "I'll discreetly check the network logs, see if there's any unusual activity that might be linked to Mark. If he's involved in the breach, there could be a digital trail."
Payback crossed his arms, his expression grim. "I'll talk to the recruits, see if anyone else has had strange encounters with Mark. We need to gather as much information as possible."
Rooster nodded, appreciating the initiative of his team. "Be discreet, and don't escalate the situation. We need to find out what's going on without causing a panic. Jake and Nix, what will the two of you do?"
Jake glanced at Phoenix before turning his attention back to Rooster. "I'll keep an eye on Mark during the next mission. See if there's anything unusual in his behavior or actions. If he's involved in something shady, I might be able to pick up on it."
Rooster nodded in approval. "Good plan, Jake. Just stay subtle and don't provoke anything. We need evidence, not confrontation."
Phoenix, her arms still crossed, chimed in. "I'll help Bob." and that was it, “What about you,Rooster?”
Rooster sighed, running his hands through his hair. "I'll talk to Vice-Admiral Simpson. Inform him about the situation without revealing our suspicions. We need his backing if we're going to investigate this properly."
The Daggers dispersed, each embarking on their assigned tasks and Rooster? Rooster made his way to Vice-Admiral Simpson's office, and he had to elaborate on a few things.

Beatrice could feel the earth sticking to her gloves as she dug into her garden, digging enough to create a little hole in her front yard so she can plant the newest addition to her plant family: begonias!
It was one of Shells’ gifts…as in the plant she got thinking she’d care for but didn’t, so she gave it to Bea. Shells was still in her house, being a great babysitter for the babies and the dogs by napping on the couch with the twins on her chest and Nicole on her stomach all the while being surrounded by Jack and Eleanor.
Meanwhile, Jolene was lying next to Beatrice’s feet outside, keeping her company.
The sun bathed the garden in a warm afternoon glow as Beatrice continued planting the begonias. She carefully placed each seedling into the soil, patting it gently to secure their place. The occasional chirping of birds, and the distant sound of laughter from down her street made this a perfect day.
Truly.
Rooster was safe while deployed, the kids were safe, she was safe…
Nothing could ruin her day.
“Hello Beatrice.”
Miranda.
Beatrice’s back straightened up like a rod as she kept her eyes forward, clenching the hand trowel tight and not turning around to greet the woman but muttering a “Hello,Miranda.”
Miranda's voice held a peculiar mix of sweetness and a subtle undercurrent that hinted at something unsettling. Beatrice's pulse quickened, but she maintained her composure, focusing on the begonias before her.
"What a lovely garden you have," Miranda commented, her footsteps approaching.
"Thank you," Beatrice replied, her tone polite but distant. She continued to work on the begonias, avoiding direct eye contact.
Miranda, undeterred by Beatrice's reserved demeanor, circled around to face her. Dressed in a flowing, elegant dress that seemed almost out of place for a casual neighborhood encounter, Miranda observed Beatrice with a piercing gaze.
"Begonias,hm?"
"Yes, begonias," Beatrice replied, trying to keep her voice steady. She could sense Miranda's eyes on her, probing and searching for who knew what. "They're lovely plants."
Miranda smiled, but it didn't reach her eyes. "Lovely indeed. Such delicate flowers, yet resilient. A fitting choice."
Beatrice continued her work, planting the last begonia with a deliberate focus. She saw Jolene move forward and place herself between the two women, with her back against Beatrice’s, keeping her eyes on Miranda.
"How’s Rooster doing in his mission?" Miranda said, her voice carrying a note of feigned concern. "Good?"
“Yep. How’s Mark? Good?”
“Oh, I don’t have to worry about Mark.” Miranda tilted her head, her gaze unwavering. "He’s an amazing pilot, after all."
Beatrice suppressed a sigh, her patience wearing thin. "That's good to hear. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some gardening to finish."
Miranda stepped closer, seemingly unfazed by Beatrice's attempt to create distance. "You know, Beatrice, I've always found gardening to be such a therapeutic activity. A way to nurture and tend to something, watching it grow and flourish."
Beatrice shot her a sidelong glance, her tone cautious. "It is. It helps clear the mind."
Miranda's eyes narrowed, the facade of friendliness slipping for a moment. "Clearing the mind can be a double-edged sword, Beatrice. Sometimes, it's better to confront the things we'd rather avoid."
Beatrice tightened her grip on the hand trowel, her patience fraying. "I'm not avoiding anything, Miranda. Now, please, I'd like to be alone."
Miranda's smile returned, as if she hadn't just veered into unsettling territory. "Of course, dear. I won't keep you. Just remember, should you ever need someone to talk to, I'm here. We're neighbors, after all."
Beatrice licked her lips, then tilted her head “...you know Miranda.” she looks up at the woman, Jolene’s head turning to look at Beatrice, “...Rooster is a great pilot too.”
Miranda's expression remained calm, but there was a subtle tension in her posture. "Of course, Beatrice. Rooster is indeed skilled. But sometimes, skill alone isn't enough to navigate the challenges life throws at us."
Beatrice shot her a quizzical look, her suspicions growing. "What challenges are you talking about, Miranda? "
“Well I–’
“Do you know our challenges Miranda?” Bea stood up, placing a hand on Jolene’s head when the pittie tried to move forward “Do you know what me and Rooster went through before?”
Miranda's facade faltered, a flicker of discomfort crossing her features. Beatrice's direct question seemed to catch her off guard, and for a moment, the poised demeanor cracked.
"Beatrice, we all have our struggles," Miranda replied, her voice attempting to regain its previous composure. "I meant no offense. I only offered an ear should you ever need to share your burdens."
Beatrice crossed her arms, her eyes narrowing as she studied Miranda."I appreciate the offer, Miranda, yet again" Beatrice said, her tone measured. "But I don’t understand what you want here, you think I’m not aware? Do you think I’m dumb?"
Miranda's composed facade wavered further, and a subtle bead of sweat formed on her forehead. Beatrice's direct confrontation seemed to have rattled her, and she took a step back, her eyes momentarily avoiding Beatrice's probing gaze.
"Beatrice, you misunderstand me," Miranda said, her voice a touch strained. "I never implied—"
Beatrice raised an eyebrow, unyielding. "Then what did you imply, Miranda? You come into my garden, talking about challenges, offering an ear. What's your game?"
Miranda took a steadying breath, attempting to regain control of the conversation. "There's no game, Beatrice. I'm merely expressing neighborly concern. We're part of the same community, after all."
‘Are we?”
It was like a vocal slap against Miranda who just stared flabbergasted. “It’s the…fourth time you say stuff like that, and honestly, I don’t buy it. I don’t like how you think I should flaunt Rooster’s abilities against Mark, I know that’s your plan.”
"Beatrice, I assure you, there's no ulterior motive. I'm here as a concerned neighbor," Miranda stammered, her eyes darting around as if searching for an escape route.
"Concerned neighbor, my foot. I–” she pauses, “...I love Rooster. I love him. And he’s not a trophy I toss around…he’s my husband, he’s the one man I’d break bones for…his happiness and wellbeing are what matter to me…so if you are here trying to…I dunno, be weird, you should go.”
Miranda's attempts at maintaining composure fell apart like a house of cards in a gust of wind. Beatrice's raw honesty, fueled by her love for Rooster, had dismantled any facade Miranda had tried to construct. The air between them crackled with tension, and Miranda, for the second time, seemed genuinely unnerved.
"I don't know what you're talking about, Beatrice. I'm not here to—"
"Don’t lie to me," Beatrice cut in, her eyes unyielding. "I can see through the act. Whatever game you're playing, it won’t work. Rooster and I have been through enough. We don't need someone stirring up trouble."
Miranda's eyes darted around again, searching for a way to salvage the situation. The serene facade she usually wore had crumbled, revealing a woman who was uncomfortably out of her depth.
Beatrice took a step closer, her gaze unwavering. "I love my husband, Miranda. He means the world to me. I won't let anyone jeopardize our peace."
Miranda swallowed hard, a nervous tic playing on her features. "Beatrice, you're misunderstanding. I have no intention of causing any trouble. I—"
"Save it," Beatrice interrupted, her tone firm. "I don't know what your game is, but I won't entertain it." Beatrice turned away, focusing her attention back on the begonias. Jolene, sensing the tension, remained vigilant by Beatrice's side, her eyes never leaving Miranda.
Miranda, flustered and off-kilter, struggled to regain control of the narrative. "Beatrice, I assure you, there's no ill will. I'm only here to—"
"You've said enough," Beatrice replied, her voice unwavering. "I think it's best if you leave now."
Miranda hesitated, her eyes flickering with a mix of frustration and anxiety. "I—"
"Now," Beatrice reiterated, her gaze piercing.
Miranda, realizing the futility of the situation, nodded reluctantly. She turned on her heel and made a hasty exit from Beatrice's yard, leaving behind a trail of unresolved tension. Beatrice watched her go, shoulders finally relaxing as she just allowed herself to drop on the soft dirt…and groan out.
She’ll have to talk to Rooster.

Sixteenth-century servant girls were expected to carry out a wide range of activities, many of them agricultural or craft-based, in addition to their domestic chores. Nineteenth-century servant girls were much more likely to be employed exclusively within the home: cooking, cleaning, doing the laundry and caring for children.
Household manuals chart a similar journey when outlining female duties for both mistresses and maids, with women's tasks gradually narrowing down over time to those contained within the walls of the home. Fitzherbert's Boke of Husbandrie (1523), for instance, allotted a couple of pages to the work of a housewife, mostly in a list of jobs that she needed to know how to perform. In addition to cooking, cleaning, laundry, and childcare, he included gardening, brewing, baking, dairying, raising poultry and pigs, milking cows, preparing flax, spinning thread - both flax and wool - taking grain to the miller, malting barley, winnowing wheat, making hay, doing the family shopping, selling on her dairy and poultry produce and sewing the family underwear. In between these tasks, she was to help her husband filling the muck wagon, driving the plough and reaping the corn. This is a daunting list, to be sure, but it also suggests that relatively little time in the average woman's day was devoted to activities encompassed by the modern concept of 'housework.' And much of the average housewife's work overlapped with her husband's.
By the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, household manuals included far less agricultural work among the wife's responsibilities. For example, William Ellis, the agricultural journalist from the Chilterns, reported that the wives, daughters, and servant maids of farmers and agricultural labourers did a good deal of dairy work and typically looked after the poultry yard. They also did the cooking, cleaning, laundry and needlework (and the childcare, although he barely noted this). However, work in the fields was not part of these women's daily routine. Plenty of agricultural work was, of course, being done by women - but as paid labour, not as part of the domestic role of wife or daughter.
This raises a question about the increasing emphasis upon women's place being in the home. Did the philosophy of 'separate spheres' for men and women, which defined much of life in the Victorian period, initially grow out of practical realities? There are many erudite historical gender studies that talk about elite and middle-class women 'retreating' into the home in this period, with a corresponding change in attitudes about the roles of men and women. And many historians discuss the social pressures on women to focus their attentions and energies upon a smaller range of domestic activities and duties. But I wonder if the additional demands of running a coal-fired household might have also helped to push the idea that a woman's place is within the home. If I am right and there was significantly more work involved in maintaining domestic cleanliness after the switch from wood to coal, then there may well have been a practical pressure for women to prioritize domestic tasks centred around the hearth at the expense of other activities - be they in the garden, the poultry yard or further from home.
- The Domestic Revolution, Ruth Goodman, pages 282-283

‘ mookda narinrak, cis woman, she/her, 28 / 282 , high fae ’ ― cauldron save you. it seems NERINA DRAGOMIR has finally made it to the capital, the LADY from SUMMER COURT is said to be OBSERVANT and is said to describe themselves with THE HARSH SPLASH OF THE TIDE AS IT ROLLS IN DURING A STORM, SILENCE THAT SPEAKS VOLUMES ABOVE SCREAMING, A CHARMING OUTFIT PERFECTLY MATCHED and with all of this in mind their SECRETIVE nature always seems to get them into trouble. may the mother hold them as they navigate this unthinkable time.

full name . nerina dragomir
nickname(s) . rina
age . 28 appearance / 282 actual
sexuality . pansexual
occupation . lady
species . high fae
loyalty . summer court
height . 5'5"
𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬
the third child born to the high lord, a man that by the time she knew him, was a womanizer who lost himself in others. the behavior granted other siblings, she couldn’t complain for she loves them all, but nerina would never feel the warm love of her father.
her mother was a night fae, a traveler who beguiled the high lord and never stuck around once she was born. nerina would be raised by nannies and older siblings, a chore she came to resent as it was never their place.
once old enough she found that her time was better spent at sea, sailing on her own ship, each time a bit further than the last. she’d lie to her father, he wasn’t as focused on her as he was her elder siblings, she could have gotten away with murder. if only that was the type of freedom she wanted, not a cry for attention from the father who didn’t glance her way.
her fondest stories are on the beaches, or of harsh summer storms that broke the shores of adriata. many believe the lady to be reserved and kind, but she embodies those very weathers. she can be fierce, but she is calculating. nerina keeps her true self hidden from the world and saved for herself. nobody deserves her trust, she’s only slowly giving it back to the siblings she felt so estranged from.
she isn’t a loud woman, but don’t mistake that for being meek or a lack of confidence. she has that in spades, but found that you don’t have to be the loudest in the room to be heard. she only speaks when she has something of value to say.
a fashionista, most of her travels to other courts were to explore their cultures. she’s taken bits of everything and kept it all to herself, as well as stories and tales she shares with her siblings. nerina is aware of how lucky she is, was.
she didn’t attend her father’s funeral. where she could have winnowed there, she makes the excuse of being too far away.
ironic, she will get restful if one compares her to her mother, but she’s hard pressed to stay in a place long and travel soothes her broken soul.

20 Questions For Writers
Yay, thank's for the tag @sinvulkt! I've seen this going round and been hoping to participate.
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
21
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
81,221 words! That's basically a novel, although split out across many shorter works.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Almost all my works are Star Wars (Luke & Vader or occasionally prequals Anakin), then DC (Superman). I only have one fic about Superman posted, but I do have quite a few drafts about him.
I also try to write origional works, but I find it a lot harder to create something I feel is as compelling without having 'the iceberg of canon' beneath it. (Granted I've made a lot of progress on trying to write origional works since I started writing fanfic.)
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Operation CHEER LUKE UP AFTER BESPIN (Star Wars OT)
This was the first fic I ever posted. I do want to finish this one, but I'm currently facing a challenging plothole, so I keep waiting till I've finished up whatever other WIP I'm working on, and then after finishing a WIP I want a break before coming back to writing a fic again, except that after a break I come up with another WIP idea…
2. Whose Propaganda is it Anyway? (Star Wars OT)
I'm surprised this beat Mistaken Son-dentity, given that it gets quite serious toward the end. But rereading it again I forgot how fun the first part was, and the way the first line eches the last.
3. Mistaken Son-dentity (Star Wars OT)
I love the crack in this one, I often think back on it if I need a way to cheer myself up but don't have access to my Ao3 bookmarks (given that I wrote it it's much easier to play in my head).
4. Skeptics of the Force (Star Wars OT)
I'm very proud of this one. It's the longest thing I've ever finished, and it grew from what I thought would be 7,000 words to 36,000 words. I edit very slowly so that was a Marathon! The plot and foreshadowing was very complex, so by the end it I was playing whack-a-mole with all the inconsistencies.
5. Hide (Star Wars OT)
I'm surprised this one was so well loved, it's very short and I was hesitant to post it because it felt a bit unfinished and like just the start of something. So I'm glad I did!
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes, occasionally I miss some but in general I try to keep up with them. If someone gives me unsolicited constructive critisim I generally don't reply, but I'm reluctant to delete their comment.
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Hmm. So there are several top contenders:
Initially I thought The Haunting of Order-66 might be it, but then I realised that while that was one of the angster ones, it actually had quite a hopeful ending.
Alone is sad, but I don't quite feel it has the gut punch to be the top contender.
Ghost is also pretty up there, but I'd say the ending leans more into horror than 'angst'.
The above two lean into 'not getting there in time', but I think the betrayal in 'Can't Go Home' elevates the angst to another level. (I double-checked The Right Hand of Justice because it Very Much explores betrayal, but the acceptance and teeny tiny thread of hope laced into the end knocks it from first place.)
So Can't Go Home is the winner!
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Hmm. I think Rivers of Lava, Rivers of Life has a beautiful ending.
8. Do you get hate on your fic?
There's a lot of imaginary hate in my head when I'm working through those last few edits before I post something 😅. Occasionally people have said they didn't like some of the ways my characters behaved, but I think it's mostly just being annoyed at them, not at the fic.
9. Do you write smut?
I don't have any posted, but there is some in my drafts. If I edited some I'm not sure if I'd post it under this account or make another I keep separate.
10. Do you write crossovers?
Sort of. I stumbled across the song 'I Know Those Eyes/This Man is Dead' (from The Count of Monte Cristo musical) and instantly went 'This has EPIC Vader/Padme reunion vibes. I promptly went and wrote a fic based on those vibes alone, and then after I finished I watched a film adaptation and read the book so I finally knew what was going on (because I knew if I looked up what was happening before I wrote the fic my perfectionism would get in the way and I'd never end up writing it).
Now, after reading the giant tome that was The Count of Monte Cristo I have an idea for a more accurate crossover called 'The Sith of Monte Cristo,' but (as I predicted) I feel too overwhelmed to write that one.
In addition, when I read Hamlet last year for the first time in my life, I was entranced and sketched out a Luke!Hamlet AU, but I also feel like that might be quite a bit of work so I haven't been motivated enough to write that either.
Finally, The Right Hand of Justice technically falls into the crossover category on Ao3, but it doesn't feel like a myth retelling makes sense to label a 'Crossover'.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
If Ao3 ever been scraped as a dataset into a Large-Language-Model.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not yet, I can only speak one language. Feel free to offer if you'd like to translate one of mine, though!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic?
Not yet!
14. What‘s your all-time favourite ship?
Um, does 'Superman/anyone' count? I love Clois, but sometimes I wish there were more AUs so it wasn't just Superman/Reporter all the time. I also love a good Clex, the enimies-to-lovers angst is delicious. I am super down for Superbat - it has the double the Identity Shennagins from Clois with a light dose of the Enimies-To-Lovers angst from Clex.
However, this might be weird, but I'm really, really down for Superman/Female Origional Character, just someone fun and quirky and quite fleshed out but a bit different to Lois's personality (because I have read mountains and mountins of Clois and while it's amazing I sometimes get a little bored of the narrowness of reporter life and the 'in love with Superman, in friends with Clark' tropes). I have a few drafts of this, but then I worry that a female OC in fandom won't be very popular so I don't clean them up 😅
15. What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Um. Um. I mean I want to finish 'Cheer Luke Up' and I will, okay, I will. It just could possibly take up to quite a number of years before I get back into it. I'm getting faster at editing, so one day it might not take that much work to finish up. I think it's just past the half-way point at the moment.
16. What’s your writing strengths?
I'm really proud of a lot of the cosmic horror I've done! I think it has a great sense of a slow buildup of dread, and then some really unique and otherworldly horrors, tinged with just the right amount of wonder and awe.
17. What’s your writing weaknesses?
Perfectionism. The initial draft isn't too hard, but it usually takes at a minimum a full week of being mostly focused on it to months for anything above 5k words. It tends to exhaust and frustrate me so much.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
Haven't done it yet (unless you count me makeing up stuff that sounds like Latin or outright using Latin in one or two sentences). As long as it fits well, but I think excessive use of it could frustrate the reader.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Star Wars Origional Trilogy
20. Favourite fic you’ve ever written?
Aaaaaahh. I think Stride of Terror is an awesome 'Vader captures Luke' fic, 'Cheer Luke Up' is the silliest, wildest, unhinged crack, Skeptics of the Force gazes into the abyss, and The Sith in Yellow is a really impressive piece of cosmic horror.
I'm going to say Skeptics of the Force, because out of all my fics when I think about how to bind one into a book it's that one that I want the most.

Tradewinds stitched by Sally Sheridan. Pattern ($6.99) designed by Teresa Wentzler.
In 2003 I showed my dad the TW Tradewinds leaflet and asked if he'd like it for his home office. He wasn't a fan of the sampler section, but very much liked the ship, dolphins and mermaid. Bonus was that the smaller rectangular sized would fit on his office bookshelf.
This project was much larger and more complex than anything I had stitched before. I had dozens of needles threaded with colors and blends. The stitching took me 282 hours over 10 months. I presented the completed and mounted Tradewinds to my dad at Christmas 2004.
Tradewinds graced dad's office for 9 years. When he passed, I reclaimed it and put Tradewinds on my bookshelf. When I moved 2 years ago Tradewinds found a spot on my dresser where I see it daily. And it started whispering to me that I should start stitching again.
I could not have completed Tradewinds without the information and encouragement of the Teresa Wentzler BB and Rotation Stitchers BB groups. Those bulletin boards (BBs) pre-dated Facebook as we know it today. Now this TW Cross Stitch SAL group serves that purpose. And I’ll be happy to share what I learned with anyone interested in Tradewinds.
Framed Dimensions: 17.5” wide x 11.25” tall
Stitch count: 114H x 210W Fabric: 28 count Confederate Gray Cashel by Zweigart Floss and threads: 59 DMC colors per floss list on leaflet, plus some Kreinik blending filament Modifications to Tradewinds design: • Excluded sampler alphabet, compass and corresponding portion of side borders (sadly this included the mermaids’ tails) • For sparkle added metallic threads to waves under the ship, sun, moon and stars (modification from TWBB) • Over 1 stitches added detail in mermaid faces and flesh (modification from TWBB) New-to-me things that made the project easier: • Gridded the fabric with Sulky in 20 thread (10 stitch) blocks • Stitched on a scroll frame and floor stand • Ott light with 3x magnifier (useful for accuracy, and essential for the over 1 stitches) • Made working copies of the design, marking progress and next step with multiple colors of highlighters • Needle organizer to manage dozens of needles loaded with the threads • Organized the cut floss for blended colors in small baggies with labels
Oh my gosh! Those sails!! <part of a post I wrote in Oct. 2003 after about 20 hours of stitching> I read many posts in TWBB while I was kitting up Tradewinds. And I saw the warnings about the sails. But I thought folks were complaining because the white was boring and there is a good bit of it. Well, I apologize to all those who went before me and survived the sails. Tonight I picked Tradewinds back up and seriously started on the sails. Oh my gosh! Confetti stitching in shades of white/ecru/beige that I can barely distinguish one from another. It begs the question of whether there can be such a thing as too many colors. And blocks of pattern from one sail to the next that are almost the same, but not quite. I started with the jibs, and had initially planned to do the sails mast by mast. Now I'll divide the "sail making" into more parts. <fast forward to Nov. 2020> Now each time I look at the final result I am in awe of Teresa Wentzler’s use of colors in a design. All those colors and confetti stitching are challenging, but well worth the effort.
To avoid burn-out as I tackled my first piece of this size I set monthly goals and rotated between 2 projects: Tradewinds and a small fun stitching project. Another key to success was breaking the work into “bit-sized” portions and the taking a moment to appreciate each accomplishment. Like many of TW’s designs Tradewinds lends itself to this approach: a couple sails at a time, one border panel at a time, the moon and the stars, etc. Completing a discrete item is much more satisfactory for me than working a square inch at a time. Sharing accomplishments and cheering on others in a stitch-along group also kept me engaged.

Mr. Collins was not a sensible man, and the deficiency of nature had been but little assisted by education or society... Having now a good house and a very sufficient income...
I really dislike adaptations have made Mr. Collins older than his actual twenty-five years. It seems like they want to lean into the Gross Older Relation I Must Marry trope but that is NOT what is happening here and I think it’s more significant to recognize the truth.
As far as Elizabeth knows, there is nothing wrong with Collins. He doesn’t gamble (or he wouldn’t go on about it at the party), we don’t see him get drunk (Uncle Phillips is hinted to do that), he doesn’t seem violent/prone to outbursts of temper (he could have when Lydia was rude while reading), and he’s not ugly as far as we know. His manners are very formal, which isn’t really shown in adaptations either. And he’s young, he’s only four years older than Elizabeth.
The point is not that he’s a GORIMM. I think the point is that he’s fine, but Elizabeth knows she’ll never like him and that’s enough. Mr. Collins offers a good deal: domestic security, future wealth, and no danger. However, Elizabeth understands that without intellectual compatibility, she will be unhappy. This is what makes her a heroine.
By making Collins old and kind of gross, the adaptations actually erase a lot of Elizabeth’s motivations and strength. The reaction to Collins becomes more visceral than intellectual, and that’s a problem.

The Wickham Fund
According to Darcy, he paid Wickham 3000 pounds instead of his inheritance.
According to Mrs. Gardiner, Darcy paid approximately 3000 pounds to secure the wedding of Wickham and Lydia.
Obvious Conclusion: Mr. Darcy has a 3k Emergency Fund that he keeps having to use for Wickham.

Jane Austen’s Warning:
A lot of people tell me the Mrs. Smith/Mr. Elliot plot is a lose thread or Jane Austen would have went back and fixed it, but when you read all of her books it's a very clear repeat of an important theme: men are often not what they appear.
Northanger Abbey: Don’t just trust your brother when he tells you his friend is a good guy, judge for yourself. It was John Thorpe, your brother was dead wrong. Also, your creepy feelings about General Tilney were right, just more mundane.
S&S: The passionate, open, charming fellow who is obsessed with your sister? Turns out he’s a debt-ridden, teenage-seducer. It was good to doubt him, Elinor, he wasn’t being completely straight with you. The good ones have honour.
P&P: Superficially charming man is super bad news, man with snobby manners has a heart of gold underneath. Elizabeth is intelligent, the novel shows us that anyone can be drawn in. Elizabeth was unwilling to change her first impressions and take in new information.
Mansfield Park: Some men pretend to be in love for fun, Fanny’s clear-sighted judgement of Henry Crawford keeps her safe from his attack on her heart. We are shown that these men can seduce friends and guardians against you. Fanny refuses to “fix” Henry or accept him on his word, he needs to show her that he has changed before she will.
Emma: The superficially charming man was already engaged and was tricking you! The other charming, attractive man was actually a petty jerk! The plain-spoken, honest man was always the better choice.
Persuasion: Anne has a gut feeling that she can’t fully put words to about Mr. Elliot that he is bad news. She cannot even fully justify it to herself. ANNE, YOU WERE RIGHT.
Again and again, we are told that women need to trust their judgement, look for more evidence into a man’s character/past, and mistrust charm/looks without a basis of goodness. Anne figuring out that Mr. Elliot is evil isn’t anti-climactic, it’s a proof that her judgement is sound. It’s a reminder that one should never rush into a marriage without knowing more about a man’s past. Because for a woman especially, it can end horribly.

Jane Austen associating the word "rational" with women over six books:
Do not consider me now as an elegant female, intending to plague you, but as a rational creature, speaking the truth from her heart. - Elizabeth Bennet, Pride & Prejudice
“But I hate to hear you talking so like a fine gentleman, and as if women were all fine ladies, instead of rational creatures. We none of us expect to be in smooth water all our days.” - Mrs. Croft, Persuasion
She dearly loved her father, but he was no companion for her. He could not meet her in conversation, rational or playful. - Emma Woodhouse, Emma
“Oh! never, never, never! he never will succeed with me.” And she spoke with a warmth which quite astonished Edmund, and which she blushed at the recollection of herself, when she saw his look, and heard him reply, “Never! Fanny!—so very determined and positive! This is not like yourself, your rational self.” Fanny Price, Mansfield Park (we know that this is very much her rational self, also after a marriage proposal)
Elinor agreed to it all, for she did not think he deserved the compliment of rational opposition. -Elinor Dashwood, Sense & Sensibility
You talked of expected horrors in London—and instead of instantly conceiving, as any rational creature would have done, that such words could relate only to a circulating library, - Henry Tilney, teasing his sister, Northanger Abbey
