I did an art!

Sera, in @bhaalschosen and @gizmoshorseemporium's worldstate. She was made a Grey Warden after a mishap in the Descent, near the end of the Darkspawn Warrens, that saw her Tainted.

She later discovered during the timeskip to Trespasser that she was a Mage. This is her post-both of those events having a moment of reflection on some things.

Strategies I use to…

Reconnect with myself˚◞♡ ⃗ *ೃ༄

Hiiii, here is a list of some things I do in order to reconnect with myself!

When I feel down, overwhelmed, mindless, or just not like my usual self, these activities are my saviours.

• Physical activity!!! - You know I had to put this one first, girl. Strength training, stretching, swimming, running, walking, dancing, playing sports, etc. Physical activity makes me feel amazing and gives me a total confidence boost, I’m just in my element.

• Meditation - Deep breathing, relaxing music, clear mind, I love it! I feel a deep sense of connection with myself and the universe when meditating. It’s also just a great reset if you’re in a negative mood, I feel totally cleansed afterwards.

• Pampering!!! - face massage, gua sha, long hot bath/shower, full body massage, cute treat/drink, ice roller, positive affirmations, comfy clothes, favourite movie, and so on.

• Get creative - Getting creative is a good way to express and connect with yourself. Doing something artsy always reminds me of when I was a kid, and writing is a great outlet for my creativity.

Drawing, writing, sculpting, painting, colouring, knitting, crocheting, etc.

• Journaling - I love journaling so much. It’s a good way to check-in with yourself, learn about yourself, and release your emotions. I feel a lot more in tune with myself afterwards.

I’ll write about : Things I am grateful for, my dreams and desires, goals I’m working towards, my favourite things about myself, my feelings, etc.

• Expressing myself - Often, the reason for me feeling disconnected with myself is because I’ve hidden or ignored my true feelings/thoughts/self. I mean obviously masking yourself makes you feel disconnected with yourself…

My strategy is to openly express myself confidently. I share my feelings and opinions, and I don’t try to hide who I am. I don’t care what people think of me, I will never be ashamed or embarrassed of my authentic self.

Arthur Morgan Headcannons

I just wanted to write some headcannons, about Arthur, literally anything, I don't care what it is exactly so that's what you're getting.

Some of the headcannons might be a bit more oriented towards a female reader, but not all, I myself am a woman, so, I'll more than likely put some in.

Arthur Morgan is a man who will gladly enjoy any person, regardless of size, but let's be real, I think he has a bit of a soft spot for bigger women. Chunky or thicc, he likes 'em

He thinks that with more there, there's more for him to grab and less of a chance that he'll break something when he's with you, whether it's in a bit more intimate situation, or even when he's just giving you a small hug or kiss.

Arthur is extremely observant. He pays attention to the things you like, and he is literally always on top of doing the things you like or buying you whatever will make you smile. 

If he finds out how much you like his voice? Uses it against you, because he doesn’t want to torture you, but he does want to see you riled up. 

You like how warm he is? He’ll always be watching to see when you get cold, and the moment you do he’s right behind you with his arms around your waist. 

Arthur has a SEVERE gambling addiction. You thought his smoking was bad? He plays poker almost every single night that he’s in camp, and sometimes it’s a blessing and others it’s a curse. He can go rounds at a time, winning each one, but as soon as he has one bad round, they all go bad, but he’s never willing to give up until you make him, and by the end of the ordeal he’s lost more money than made. 

He also has a huge ego problem, obviously he’s mentally ill and he’s depressed with who he is as a person, and he doesn’t think very highly of himself, but the moment you manage to boost his ego, that little swagger walk of his that you so dearly love grows more confident. 

Hell, sometimes even you just saying good morning can change his whole mood, and he’ll even be nice to other people in camp when he usually only tolerates them.

Arthur has this thing, that when he leaves camp for a certain amount of time, anything that’ll be longer than a day really, but usually when its about a week of being away. He’ll come back to camp, make a beeline for you, and whisper only loud enough for you to hear “Can you be quiet for me while I fuck you or do I have to take you outta camp?” 

And thus, you are prepared, obviously.

He’s like a dog in heat, mainly because he hadn’t been with anyone in so long and after a while he’d stopped going after working girls. No one had really made his body react like you did, so it never became a problem until he got with you. 

He draws you all the time, obviously he draws, he’s got a whole sketchbook dedicated to it, but he draws you almost any chance he can. Not because he’s some corny “I love you more than life itself” kind of person, which, he is, but because he thinks that out of everyone in camp you are the most fun to draw, your features are just more entertaining and enjoyable to make out with a pencil.

Arthur loves to eat good food, and while Pearson does a decent job it’s not exactly what he would consider gourmet food, so whenever he gets the chance to try new food, or get good food at least, he’ll splurge the money. The only reason he hasn’t gotten completely fat, though he is a little on the chubbier side, which you absolutely love, and think is hot as hell, is because of all the work he does for the gang.

He calls you all kinds of nicknames and pays attention to the ones that get the biggest reaction out of you. 

He’s found that Princess does a particularly great job at getting a rouse out of you, but he’s also found that if he says it in his normal tone it doesn’t have the same effect, he has to lower his voice for it to work the way he wants it too. 

Darlin’ and Sweetheart have about the same effect, although Darlin’ seems to make you feel a little more for him in serious situations. 

Sugar makes you go beet red in the face, and he’s figured out that one is another one he can lower his voice for. 

Honey is one that he thinks you like, but he also thinks you’re a little neutral on it. Sometimes it works, other times you just don’t seem to care that much. You’ll answer to it, but that’s about all.

Good Girl, or My Girl, regardless of tone, but especially when lowered, always gets you messed up and he knows it, which is exactly why he waits until you’re at the fire surrounded by the gang to whisper it in your ear. 

On the other hand, you have only a few nicknames for him.

Cowboy, it’s tried and true, describes him, basically to a Tee, although Outlaw works better. 

Honey, again, a neutral one. 

You are the only person, and I mean, only person he allows to call him Pretty Boy, if anyone else tries it they’re liable to find a knife beneath their neck.

Big Boy will send him skyrocketing, his face will flare so hard his ears will turn red and he’ll start stuttering over his words like a newborn calf stumbling on its legs. 

Good Boy will really get him motivated and usually if you say it to him in public, he has to excuse himself until he gets rid of his problem. 

You hate to admit it, because you know it’s bad for him, but you think that when he smokes cigarettes, he’s at one of his hottest points. When he finds this out, he makes it his goal to smoke more around you.

Occasionally he’ll wait until you wake up and walk out of his tent shirtless and lean against the wooden poles to smoke, and he’ll send a smirk your way, that he knows you like. 

When you start to share his tent together, he does the same thing, however, rather than getting up he just simply leans over you and grabs the smokes, he’ll light a match against the wagon and puff away with his hands behind his head. 

His absolute favorite thing to do is smack you on the ass and run away, he thinks it’s the absolute funniest thing ever to watch you chase him, he’s got longer legs, so it’s easier to stay away from you. 

He also loves it when you wear his hat, however, if you do, he’s going to use it as an excuse to take you to the tent. 

If you get him drunk, first off, I’m sorry, second off, you better have a leash. He’s a lot happier drunk, he likes to sing and talk, and he compliments everyone, but he also likes to stumble around and go adventure, and if you don’t keep a good eye on him he’s liable to mount up on his horse, albeit slowly, and then make his way into the nearest town to cause mayhem.

Do not let him drink with John, because rather than being a fun loving drunk he will start trying to fight John and then the night is ruined for everyone. 

He also gets more handsy when he drinks, he was already handsy before, but now, when he’s drunk and he couldn’t care less about what people thought about him, he was going to touch wherever he wanted on you. 

Your stomach? He’s got his arms around it.

Your ass? Being grabbed any time he’s walking, or stumbling rather, with you. 

Tits? Regardless of gender? They have been honked at least twice. 

He will kiss you, if it’s on the lips or on the neck, that is anyone’s gamble. 

He’ll even talk dirty to you, and not quietly like he would if he was sober, he’ll do it for everyone in camp to hear, and the only way to shut him up is to either kiss him or somehow drag all two hundred and forty pounds of him into his tent. 

All in all Arthur Morgan is Arthur Morgan and if you make the decision to be his you better be ready to deal with it.

there is so much potential in having an art class as an option. the current school is fine as it is, and adding one more class would fuck up the schedule, but thats not stopping me from thinking about it.

in this hypothetical art class, all of the school Li's are there for maximum chaos, all seated next to each other. theyre separated ingame for a reason, and the interactions will sure as hell be cluttered, but by god it'd be sooo funny to have whitney throw paint at robin.

classes will range from standard still life drawing to nude ones, where everyones had to strip for the class at least once . not completely naked, not unless they want to.

whitney is easy, they'd have zero shame and would face PC while spreading their legs, not shy about sneaking a hand to touch themselves, everyone in the class has a picture of them at least slightly aroused in their sketchbooks. they're poses are the most slutty looking, they've always got a hand between they're legs, spreading for a good angle, goading everyone to get their good side.

pure sydney would be a mess when asked to strip, hiding themselves even with their underwear on, whitney colors their skin in with pink because of their full body blush. the more corrupt, the more sensually they'll pose, PC could even ask fem syd to lose the bra or masc syd not to hide their bulge. it'll get to the point where they hope they're called to strip, flaunting everything, getting aroused from the attention.

when it comes to kylar, most of the class is disappointed or uninterested, but depending on if they're assets are bigger, the classes opinion of them change for the entire period. they face PC, and PC solely, making direct eye contact, clearly aroused. usually, it's kylar making the picture, but having PC's attention on them like this is driving them wild. you could defiantly boss them around on what type of pose to do.

mmmhhh robin <3, from interactions in winter's class with other students, we can see that people are interested in them, so students will appreciate being able to see whats under their uniform. low confidence will need encouragement from PC and/or pressuring from the teacher. like sydney, they'll at least have they're underwear on, and their poses are less rigid the more confident they become, until there's a point where PC can ask they strip completely. they'll still be shy about it, but they'll strip, and having an audience of people who are seemingly interested in their body will boost their confidence.

in the classes, the hallway, library, anywhere, students could talk about what they saw in art class, talking about the pictures they snuck, and whose bodies they want to see next time. it'll go like:

"Everyone can see what Whitney's packing under the uniform, but oh my god, to actually see it!" "Right! I swear I saw it twitch!"

"I think if Kylar showed more cleavage, people would think more of them, to be honest." "At least you got to see it! All of the creeps attention was on that orphan kid, I didn't even see nipples."

"I go to the temple everyday after school! How am I even going to face Sydney after today's class!" "Maybe if you ask nice, they'll pose for a private drawing." "Shut up!"

"Robin's face is covered in freckles, but I didn't think they where, you know, everywhere." "There's a mole on their left butt cheek shaped like a crescent moon." "... Just how close were you sitting to them?"

Obviously, insecurities are apart of the equation, and PC can get bullied and teased if supply doesn't meet demand, student harassment will increase even more, with people asking to get a better look for their sketchbook. not to mention the amount of people that'll be taking pictures, there will be a point where PC or another student will be working under Leighton to snap a few

for the teacher, I was thinking a mix of sirrus and mickey, easy going, not phased by the human body. definitely asks for private drawing sessions, where either PC or they will be the subject. when they're the subject, there will be an option to move closer for a better look, for the drawing of course. when PC is the subject, they'll keep their distance, but the more sessions there are, the closer they'll move, drawing in a special sketchbook only taken out in these sessions.

a possible art competition, where there's an option for regular still life, scenery paintings, with the lewder option being, of course, lewd pictures and sculptors, with any Li of your choice as the subject. said hypothetical teacher having their own work around, just for show, and PC recognizing a faceless painting or sculpture of them as the main attraction.

I am a bit late, but here you are! ( trigger warnings ⚠️ insomnia, lack of hygiene and hints of negligence) I worked on this headcanons for days!!

Behaviour

Aran sleeps very bad and he usually do exercise when he cannot sleep or when he wakes up too early. That's why at the WVBA gym he doesn't do anything except messing around and pranking.

He is very loud even in a normal situation. He likes being at the centre of attention. He isn't loquacious when sick.

Also he is an energetic young man, when he sits he always moves his feet or his hands.

if he has to describe himself, Aran would say he is both cool and lucky.

People would say about him instead that is a jerk who acts cocky, BUT they admit that he doesn't step back when things get hard.

Aran has a pov of the world where only the strongest can survive and rule over the others

Aran is a "open book", it's too easy to understand what Aran thinks about you

He is one of the quickest person the WVBA staff has never met. Also his reflexes are something outside this world: when he is concentrated he can avoid stuff throwing at him.

Aran has some... Problems... With hygiene. He usually forgets to take a shower or just brush his teeth. During his childhood and adolescence, no one told him how to wash himself correctly, so when he has to do it, he does it very quickly but he misses some parts.

Since this introduction in SPO, Aran stopped to cut his hair and, in general, to go to the barber. He prefers to take care of his hair himself (that's why his hairstyle is so odd). About his "beard", he thinks that a designer stubble is more masculine than a beard.

About hair, he is the most hairy around the WVBA. Very. His hair is the source of jokes against Don Flamenco's "hair". One time Don imagined to cut Aran's hair away and made a toupee with that hair.

Of course everyone remembers his iconic line about cheeseburger: Aran literally use that line with everyone, adapting it with their traditional food. Talking about stereotypes, Aran doesn't use them to do harm.

Aran has a soft side, but only his mam knows

He doesn't care what other people think about him and his behaviour

Joking and pranking is his way to interact with people

His driver's license was suspended and he decided to ride his bike. That's why he skips leg day XD

Passions

When he does exercise, Aran is very concentrated and he usually listens to Phonk (it boosts him with confidence and adrenaline)

When he has time (always lol), Aran draws on stuff or does doodles. Everywhere. On the metro, inside a cab, on a table of a pub... No place is safe.

About that, Aran made an Instagram page dedicated to his doodles in NY and Dublin (when he goes back), in which he signs himself as Ryan. Too bad everyone understands that it's him (tagging his main profile in the comments).

Relationships

Romantically he can give the vibes of someone uninterested in love and stuff

BUT truly Aran is a sorta of loser, he doesn't know how to approach to his s/o, so he imitates what Don and Macho Man do. In a bad way, exaggerating everything, from giving numerous presents/gifts to hugging/touching his s/o. He also would brag how muscular and manly is he, and he would start to talk no stop

The only one who has the bravery to comment his behaviour is Bald Bull. Instead, Soda always supports Aran, no matter what.

his attitude changes completely when his mam is involved, from a tough fella you should never mess about to a good and softy big boy.

He becomes kinder and softer when he gets closer to his s/o too.

Usually he isn't very liked inside the WVBA, but he has some friends (mostly Major circuit/world circuit)! Normally, they hang out to the pub or walk around, maybe searching a new disco/pub or a skate park.

I’m a 21 year old female who prefers being indoors rather then being outdoors , I’m more introverted , but whenever I’m with my friends , i just have a massive confidence boost .

I’m not usually the one who interacts with people , people interact with me when we first start a conversation and I usually just listen and perhaps give a few comments here and there.

While I am more than ready to pick a fight with anyone that tries to hurt my friends , I also chicken out . I’m fairly good at encouraging people and pep talks and advice . I’m loyal and smart , but I can also brag a bit and I’m not exactly a good teacher …

I also happen to not really smile a lot and have a resting bitch face so people naturally avoid me .

I’m sensitive to loud sounds and sometimes light whenever it happens to strike my eyes directly. ( though I think that’s natural)I’m sensitive to insults since I’ve received a lot of them growing up .

I tend to do origami and piano , sometimes I write purely indulgent fanfics I also do tennis sometimes . I’ll also go to the shopping mall with my friends but I usually don’t buy anything they have to buy me something since I’m too shy to actually nab a piece of clothing. I also like naps.

I can draw pretty well and I’ve managed to make like 400 origami flowers in a day ,( I’m surprised there isn’t a paper shortage….) I’m fairly good at straw weaving and prefer soft yarns when I do make a scarf. And my piano is good!

I prefer a s/o that’s honest, nice , and willing to display affection , it doesn’t have to be outside but affection is wanted for me.

I really don’t like a s/o that’s rude or teasing and distant .

Hello everybee~ 🐝

Once again it is time for me to celebrate the Anniversary of Colony Workshop and look back on everything I've achieved so far. I'm actually a little late posting this but I'm not going to let that stop me!

First of all I would love to say a big Thank You to everyone who's been following my art pages for the past few years. It has been a lot of fun working on these cute bug drawings and I'm really glad I've had a nice reception to my sketchbook pages and other odd bits I post. Your support means a lot to me and it has really helped me to continue working on this WebToon passion project~ 🦋

And now for the part where I get to toot my horn about everything I've achieved this past year!

In the last year I've definitely put out some of my best quality work. I really feel like I've gotten used to creating and using assets to make better backgrounds quicker, and I've been getting more out of gradients now that I've spent some time learning them.

I have also improved on my WebToons processes noticeably. I learned how to use rulers and got a bit better with vectors, which makes it so much easier to do all the weird panel sizes and text bubbles! I think the switch to mono-colour was a good move too. Especially now that I've figured out how to make it a gradient layer.

I'm always learning new features and techniques with Clip Studio, and it's so satisfying to solve a time saving problem. It feels mad how much more I've learned in the last 4 years, despite feeling like I had a pretty good grip with it then!

Another big success for me this year was selling art at Furcation 23! It was my first time selling at a Dealer's Den so I was quite anxious, but everyone was super friendly and I got to chat a bunch~ A fair few people picked up the special Honeybee Gala prints in the Honeybee frames. To those people- I hope it brings you happiness every day! 🐝

I'm all set to run a table again later this year, so come say hi if you're there! I'm super looking forward to it but there is much to prepare. I have a pretty good idea of extra things to bring this time- sticker packs, small prints, acrylics. But there's still a lot to do and there's more I want to draw so it might be a bit of a mad rush getting everything done!

Just a little bit about changes I'm implementing for this next year-

Some of you may have noticed by now that from January I stopped posting my usual monthly newsletter, and this is a decision that I will keep going forward. For the first few years of Colony it seemed like a really good idea to keep a monthly newsletter going so that I could do little recaps on what I had been working on and share my thoughts on how it was all going. However, I kept finding that I didn't always have a huge amount that I was ready to share and when drawing projects ran on over a few months it was causing me a bit of stress and guilt seeing the same thing recurring on my to-do list. Coupled with the time cost of writing a little newsletter every month it started to seem like I was better off drawing instead.

I am definitely trying to gain some confidence with social media and would really like to be comfortable enough dropping small posts with my thoughts every now and then, but for now I want to focus on reducing unnecessary stress and give myself as much drawing time as possible!

I really hope that little updates and WIP posts will be a good way to go. I'm actually pretty bad for forgetting to post things and when I get going with a big project it can end up being the only thing I focus on. I don't really want to trap myself into a routine of forcing myself to post, but I would really like to find a comfy middle ground where I can make a post once or twice a week and boost engagement!

I am careful not to open up to people right away, but study them well before doing so (although this has a negative side in the form of my extreme distrust, but I will write about this later). Despite my laziness, I can be full of inspiration and enthusiasm for things that interest me and very quickly learn something related to the subject of my interest, or direct my enthusiasm in a positive direction. I have a courage and independence, which I "charge" others with. I also have a sense of humor that my friends like (although some find it too vulgar). I am caring and attentive to those who are dear to me, and I try to act for their comfort. Loyalty to those I care about is also my strong point. I consider myself an optimist, but I also take into account the real facts.

People quite often really annoying me with their emotionality and a lot of different misconceptions that are in their minds (I deal with this very often, unfortunately). Against this background, I often look down on those around me, although I do not show it. This sounds a bit hypocritical against the background of the fact that irritability and short temper are also my traits that I (sometimes) find difficult to control. I have very big problems with trust, it's not easy for me to open up to others. I rarely show my real emotions, even to those with whom I am close, and try to appear calm. Another problem is my laziness and procrastination. I'm very sarcastic with people I don't like, or when I'm just in a very bad mood. I also have moments of low self-confidence. And finally, sometimes I get jealous. I have a fear of doing some things wrong combined with perfectionism, which may make me afraid to do something (for example, write a text) not well enough.

My life and mind are very chaotic - I have a habit of changing plans quickly, and for this reason I try not to make plans even for the next day.

My love languages: words of affirmation and physical touch. I can tell my mate a lot and often how much I love them, reminding them of this more often, I try to come up with pleasant affectionate nicknames, and I realy like praise them! I can compliment their positive traits to cheer them up and boost their self-esteem. Usually my affectionate nicknames are words that I associate with this person in a good way. I also often hug my mate and stroke them. I really like hugging. I have no problem with showing affection in public, and I even like to do it.

Hobbies: I am good at writing texts and composing stories, I like to come up with the plots of my stories and make their text pleasant to read. I also like to draw, but it's harder for me than writing. In drawing, I prefer to use a technique, that is, a drawing tablet with a screen, rather than paper and pencils. I also like to spend time playing video games and reading books or watching some movies and anime (my favorite genres are related to fantasy and science fiction... And when it comes to video games, I prefer RPG). I also like to study things related to my interests - astronomy, psychology, birds, reptiles.

Pet peeves: Well, I think the full list of such things would be too long… So here are some that I managed to remember. All of them are somehow related to the invasion of my personal space (for example, when someone stares at the screen of my phone or laptop and comments on what is there) without my permission. I also don't like being distracted from something I'm very focused on (for example, when I'm writing a text, and it's at this moment that someone suddenly wants to chat with me for no important reason). I am also annoyed by people who believe that they know everything and cannot make mistakes, and will never admit their mistakes.

Other facts: I have a fickle and confused sleep schedule (sometimes I sleep more than 16 hours, sometimes less than 4 hours, because I have short insomnia). Perhaps I have autism (at least self-diagnosis and self-observation have shown this). I don't understand social cues and hints well, and it's better for other people to tell me about their feelings directly (however, I can learn to understand how a person feels if I study their character well).

I know it's so tempting to post some art and put "this came out real bad lol" "I suck so much why did I post this" but as a follower (and as a friend to a lot of people who do this) it's really disheartening and uncomfortable. A friend of mine got a really nice comment on some art they'd made and their reply was "thanks it looks way worse than my usual art" how do you respond to that?? Coming across like you have no faith or love for your own work will most likely mean your followers won't either. And if you're putting this work up for sale/as samples for commissions, it doesn't look very professional.

Yes tooting your own horn is hard but you don't have to swing to the other extreme end of the spectrum and start saying "look at me I'm so amazing!!! I aced this!!" (Although you should definitely try it at least once when you're super proud of something, it's a really good confidence boost sometimes) Just don't be 100% negative about your work in a place your followers/potential customers can see. If you really don't like a piece that you're posting, try and put a positive spin on it: "this didn't come out quite the way I wanted and I think I've learned something about anatomy!" or "working on this made me realize I'd like to get better at drawing backgrounds" etc etc. And if someone gives your work a compliment that you feel your work doesn't deserve, don't try to convince them they're wrong - just say thank you! Not only does it make it much more approachable for your followers (and possibly open up engagement in terms of people offering tips/feedback) but you will start to feel much less negatively about your work, and yourself as well. Please be a little bit kinder to yourself and your hard work ❤️

When you were transferred to this school, you never thought it would be like this. Weren't good grades and business suggestions the main focus of rich kids? shigaraki is really blunt (and so are you), he always says what comes to his mind, and he always explains his thoughts

Tips for the student witch:

Keep a sigil on a sticky note in your pencil case (for good grades, concentration, protection, etc. My school is currently grieving so personally I keep one meant to radiate healing.)

Keep a crystal that corresponds to your throat chakra (lapis lazuli, turquoise, aquamarine, celestite, etc) to help you speak up in class and express your thoughts (especially in speeches, presentations, and debates), aid in effective communication with friends, peers, and teachers, boost your confidence, and prevent miscommunication to avoid accidentally starting/spreading rumours

I’ll say this again: enchant your nail polish. Clear nail polish for protection has been my best friend in schools with a dress code where I need to practice in secret. Wearing enchanted nail polish could help if you struggle with getting your thoughts from your head to your hands and onto the paper (take advantage of the colours, too!)

If a friend or peer is going through a period in their life where they need additional emotional support, charge a crystal with healing energy and let them borrow it everyday, recharge as needed (bonus: you can tell them it’s your good luck stone/crystal, nobody really questions it if you’re in the broom closet)

Charge your bottle of water, because you’re super cool and you deserve to be hydrated and also because school/uni is draining and you’ll need to recharge

Do not hesitate to go to the bathroom and ground yourself in a stall (usually less people and conflicting energies than a classroom/cafeteria, and gives you privacy to do some breathing exercises for a few minutes), although school bathrooms aren’t always very calming...

Many of us dread(ed) PE, but I find that it’s a great opportunity to let out any excess energy that’s accumulated throughout the day, especially if you’re an empath

Make a sigil you can draw on your notebooks and test papers for some extra support

With the pandemic and all, I and many other students spray our seats and tables with alcohol/disinfectant/wipe them down before taking a seat; charge your spray/wipes, and visualise them cleansing your seat of any negative energy

Cleanse your bag when you get home so you don’t carry any unwanted energy from your day with you at home, and to stop the energy from building up in your bag, supplies, and books

Aside from the obvious protective and purifying qualities, rosemary is great for dispelling jealousy, enhancing memory, encouraging school success, and making lasting impressions. How Art Challenges Made Me a Better Artist

There are tons of different art challenges; I think there's a popular challenge every month—Inktober, plain airpril, creatuanuary, huevember, mermay, to name a few. Usually, influencer artists start a challenge with a hashtag. And it spreads throughout the community.

Participating in art challenges has become almost a norm, especially in recent years. And there are benefits in doing so: 

You become part of the artists' community. 

If your work is good enough, you can have exposure and grow your audience. 

You can experiment and try new things.

And last but not least, you have fun. 

They are also supposed to encourage people to draw every day and become better artists by improving their skills. (I'm not sure about this one, but I'll get back to it later.)

On the opposite side, I've seen artists, even professional ones, resist participating in these hashtag art challenges. So let's look at the disadvantages: 

There's pressure to draw every day, and if you skip one, then there's a feeling of failure.

There's also a direct comparison with amazing artists, and for some of us, that can be discouraging. 

Another negative I've seen recently is the obsession with getting followers and growing an audience. Of course, I understand the interest in that; we all want an audience. Still, I've seen artists, beginners especially, focusing on the followers more than on their drawing skills.

I think the most significant disadvantage, and this is something that happens to me, so I know this by experience. Is that, I would prepare myself to draw daily for one month. I would accomplish the 30 or 31 drawings and be happy with my results, but then, when the challenge was over, I wouldn't draw. Instead of being constant with my practice and growth, I would grind during that particular month and never grind the same for the rest of the year. I was treating drawing as a sprint when it's a marathon.

Looking at the "improving your skills" benefit and the disadvantages. I think there are better ways to improve and be a better artist. Don't get me wrong, the act alone of drawing every day will make you progress. It's just that I don't think these particular challenges are very beginner-friendly. 

Introduciiiiing the "Make Your Own Personal Challenge"... Challenge!

Anybody can create their own challenge, and you can choose to share or not your results on social media. You don't need to be a professional artist, you don't need to be popular, and your challenge can be whatever you want. For example, look at this Haikyuu themed challenge. So just like you can make a challenge to satisfy your love for an IP and draw fan-arts during a month. You can also make a personal challenge to focus on improving what you want and need. 

That's what I did on my Drawing Leveling Up challenge. I don't intend for other artists to follow it. It doesn't have a theme; it's not a hashtag with prompts. When I started it, I had no idea where it was going. If you see the videos, you'll notice that I change my mind from one day to the next. I just wanted to improve my anatomy drawing, and I wanted to do it as fast as possible. Committing to a challenge was the best way I found to force myself to study daily.

I want to show you the challenge an animator did: zoray99 on Instagram.  They uploaded a daily animation exercise throughout a whole year. It was rough, focused on learning and improving. Look how simple this day's animation is, they wanted to really understand what was happening here.  Doing that for a whole year is impressive, and I'm guessing Zoray feels satisfied with the achievement, but more importantly, how much they learned. 

So if you're a beginner artist and the well-known hashtag art challenges overwhelm you, you can create your challenge to improve at your own pace. You only have to set up doable boundaries:

The first you need is a time limit; this is important because the ending and objective are not clear without a time limit, affecting your commitment and confidence. For a daily challenge, a month would be ideal. But you can also choose to draw every other day instead of daily. You can also say something like, "I'll draw daily on this sketchbook with a 15-minute time limit until I finish it." Those boundaries are helpful because maybe you don't have a lot of time to spend on drawing.

Another useful boundary is a prompt list. Sometimes we spend more time thinking about what to draw than drawing. If you want to evolve as an artist, I recommend following a book and study from it. Or you can focus on a specific study subject you want to improve, like "sketching backgrounds for 15 days". 

Another thing is that, for hashtag challenges, most of us try to make finished illustrations with ink and color and everything. So you can also determine how far you want to go with each drawing, simple sketches, ink, and painting? You decide.

My personal challenge's boundaries were: drawing daily for 30 days following the lessons and tutorials of artists on youtube. That way, I didn't have to think about what to draw, the "prompts" were their videos, and also, my sketches didn't even need to be clean. This challenge's purpose was to study.

The best part is that you control your challenge and improvement. If there are things you struggle with, you can repeat and practice them more. You can also slowly increase the difficulty. That's what I did when I implemented the animated anatomy studies. 

With a personal challenge, you can focus on self-growth. And leave the hashtag challenges to have fun, experiment, and be part of the community.

Ok, but does making a personal challenge help you improve? Mine finished on May 30. Am I a better artist now?

To measure my drawing improvement, I made some life drawing exercises in "class" format, and then without a time limit, I drew some poses from my imagination. Comparing them to day 11 and day 16 of my challenge, I think I improved a little, drawing-wise speaking. 

The biggest difference is not in my skills, though. It's in my mindset. I feel the challenge made me feel better while drawing. I feel less stressed and with more confidence. I am still doing the anatomy animations I started on day 21, even though the daily challenge ended. So it also gave me the boost I needed to keep grinding forward. Like a marathon, not a sprint. And that's what matters the most. 

If you feel artistically stuck, or you're not enjoying drawing as much as you once did, or you want to polish your skills or learn something new, you can make a personal challenge and focus it on self-improvement. It's hugely motivating for other artists and me to see someone challenging themself, and coming out better.
