this show where diving aircraft is yuri kiss powed and everybody is born a girl and has to choose their gender once turned seventeen at times postponing it to remain as neither a man or a woman; essentially rejecting adulthood and remaining as a religious pilot to defend your homeland. to become a man is to change your body and grow up and give up your life, to become a woman is to remain lesser in society yet divine. You only have one chance to choose what you wish to be physically and in society. its irreversible. you're doing it to save the society. you're doing it for the holy. shit.

Mario and the Incredible Rescue is mostly a nothing burger in terms of characterization, but here are a couple of bits that I liked:

He be pining hard. Also, my heart grows three sizes every time something confirms outright that Princess Peach is fantastic at her job as a ruler.

The Yoshis are very doglike in this book (positive). There's a moment later on where Mario momentarily breaks away from the group with Yoshi, and when they return Luigi and Toad are killing time by playing with the rest of the pack. Just a big candy-colored mob of friendly puppy-dinos who will also devour sentient beings alive if they're too mean.

Luigi's relationship with Toad in this book reminds me a lot of his interactions with the toads in the Luigi's Mansion series. I would not mind if Toad and Luigi developed this sort of dynamic in the movie canon somewhere down the line. Two more little moments:

Maybe it's just me and I just don't understand the arc. Or maybe this arc will get some grand conclusion I'm really starting to doubt. But like I'm sick and tired of Tashigi being used as Zoro's misogyny proxy. Like the "a woman swordsman could never beat a man" belief and trauma made sense for both Kuina and Tashigi and was a very valid fear way back in the East Blue when they were still fighting relatively normal people and had no scope of how big the world is

but at this point where there are literally 20 feet tall dudes and people can blow up a whole city with just Haki the only reason Tashigi is still weak is because she is being written that way. Which is really hard to understand because it seems now more than ever One Piece has been getting more and more strong female characters so I don't know why every time Tashigi is on screen with Zoro we have to rehash this. It's even worse cause all she does in the scene is prove Zoro right by getting in a fight that she can't handle and needing saving. It's such a confusing message and honestly doesn't really apply or come up anywhere but with Tashigi and Zoro (outside of that one time where Zoro yells at enel for blasting Robin because she's a woman which was weird because Robin's been in a lot of fights before but seemed there just so enel could point out just how ruthless it is.)

Hell with the exception of the G5 all being in love with her. She is treated like a regular character and not just "the woman"

It honestly feels like both Tashigi and Smoker got lost in the narrative and Oda just doesn't know where to put their arcs. It feels like she was being written to help Zoro overcome whatever mental block Kuina's death instilled in him about facing female opponents with his sword. But she is just sooooo far behind him it renders the point moot and strengthens his convictions (it's weird that he will literally crush a woman's face rather than use his sword and is the only reason I won't say he doesn't fight women he does he just seems to have a mental block about cutting them down especially if they fight with anything blade like) but also we've only ever seen him face female character he knows can't challenge him it would have been interesting to see what he'd do in a fight against someone like big mom, tsuru or smoothie doubt that will happen though. But here's to hoping for Tashigi to have an actual arc.

before the realization fully set in that Naminé is being forced to work for the worst people ever she would show the Castle Oblivion crew her drawings and one time she draws them all as cats but like in that deviantart sparklecat way, yknow? and Larxene says something horribly mean and Marluxia says something weird but then Axel sees and is like "lol. you should show Zexion this he'll get a kick out of it" and Naminé goes "!!!!!!" and rushes over to show him but Zexion looks at his cat with the bangs and everything and says "I would not look like this as a cat."

and then he pulls out a piece of charcoal and sketches a realistic cat which just looks like it came out of a research journal with the only really distinguishing feature being the shading on the cat and Naminé thinks he's just fucking with her like the others like to all the time but he's dead serious about this being his catsona

Started another crochet bag....I did try to knit it first but I think I might need to get some wooden dpns, because my metal ones are just too heavy for a lace fabric and keep twisting and falling and generally causing problems. So I'm crocheting the base and then I might switch to knitting for the sides, depending on how it goes.

Ive also noted that I need some kind of pillow for my powerchair. The headrest is way too far back and hurts. I want it to be washable or maybe have a washable cover, since my head will be directly touching it for most of the day whenever I'm finally able to use it. I'm thinking I'll make the pillow out of cotton and find some kind of natural cotton filling (I do have polyfill but I'm trying to move away from all plastic fibers and also polyfill for a pillow sounds bad). And then I will probably try and sew 3 or 4 pillowcases.

I got a free sewing machine that may or may not work after I dropped it on the ground trying to bring it inside. Might try that as a first project on it, doesn't sound too hard as sewing projects go.

Also need a pillow to sit on but im gonna buy a gel one probably, I don't think a cotton pillow is gonna cut it.

Started watching the Bayverse movies with my besties and... Are we just too gay for these movies??? Admittedly we only finished the first two and got through a quarter of the third, but the second one was such a drag to sit through at times and it probably doesn't help that we do NOT care about Sam that much. I hope that there is a character arc for him in the rest of the third movie. Because so far he has not been fun to watch in that one. He just comes off as a slight manchild to me, like... I can see why he would be frustrated with where he is in life but the way he acts with others and lashes out does not help him in the slightest. I do have to admit though that seeing him go to Cybertronian Heaven in the second movie was the funniest part for me and my besties lol.

I'll just hope that the other guy in the next movies will be at least a bit more interesting. Doesn't even have to be a good guy, just an interesting guy for me lol

The concept of queerbaiting annoys me. I was told that it refers to a work of fiction pretending to cater to a queer audience but then pulling back from it to avoid alienating homophobes, which is an incredibly specific thing. But a lot of people seem to think that it instead means "any time there's any gay subtex, metaphor, or ambiguity" or "whenever something from 1995-2012 was being a normal amount of homophobic for the era."

I don't use Facebook for anything except keeping in contact with our ferret breeder, who I've been talking to again to get (hopefully) another couple kits this summer. I also don't keep in contact with anyone I went to high school with--people who make up the majority of my FB friendlist.

So, in opening FB for the first time in years, I was extremely amused to find that a solid 1/4 of the people I liked enough to friend them on FB have come out as some flavor of trans. Some I suspected, some were a complete surprise. But they all look so happy now, and I'm so happy for them. <3
