Okay so one of my major fandoms has gotten pretty controversial since the main canon finished up, lots of people involved have done or at least been accused of some not so great things. And a lot of people left the fandom because of it which, you know, understandable.
The thing is, on Ao3 there are, depending on who is included in the fic, several periods of time from which I cannot read completed multi-chapter fics anymore because I’ll get really invested in a story and reach the last chapter and they’ll say “I heard about the drama and I’m not finishing this fic anymore. Sorry!” And like, I get it, but please, pretty please, tell me beforehand. They don’t put the Abandonded/Discontinued tag, they don’t leave it incomplete, they tag it as finished and then I stumble across it and get my heart broke.
I appreciate every author on that site, and I understand that they might not feel comfortable writing anymore, but misrepresenting your fic pisses me off. I know lots of people are okay with reading incomplete fics, they can accept that, but I’m not one of those people. There is nothing that hurts me worse than finding out that I will never get closure, and that includes in my fandoms. Don’t mislead me into thinking that there will be a conclusion and then rip the floor out from under me, you feel?

We have enough ‘c!tommy goes through the horrors and then gets help from some other character’ fics. I want a fic where someone else is going through the horrors and c!tommy is the concerned bystander turned support character. And I dont mean for c!wilbur because that’s the only dynamic I’ve really seen like that. I’m talking: Puffychu couples therapy- with Tommy as the increasingly concerned therapist. Role reversal or something

I want to write a fic about Dream moving into a frat mid college for some reason and he has the surgery scars he has and every single time a frat bro sees him without a shirt on their reaction is "Dude, cool scars!! ... is it a trans thing?" "Uh... no, they're like, surgery scars" "Cool cool... you're still going with he/him right? Just to check" "yeah"

is there a question or comment that you often get that genuinely upsets you? or genuinely annoys you to your core?
Uhhh I wouldn't say genuinely upset, but probably annoys me yeah haha.
Comments comparing designs, like Odysseus and Jesus, etc, those get old very quickly.
Questions insistently asking if I'm a boy or girl, while amusing, also get old very quickly.
Any questions like the previous anon where it's like "why do you like this piece of media so much" well! It's a long story isn't it. Do you want a history because I Can traumadump. This one is a special case though, it mostly takes context
And any comment telling me to draw something (depends on tone) just makes me not want to draw it HAHA. I don't mind if people ask nicely, but the ones that are just a straight up demand? Rude. Ignored.
Also what Does upset me, now that I think about it, though it doesn't really happen here, mostly on TikTok and YouTube, is when people say I'm race swapping characters?? Or changing their race? I guess? It's just weird.

a little ramble about dreblr, meta, and the ever evolving nature of this fandom, i guess?
i don't mean to soapbox, this is mostly just going to be vomiting some thoughts into a post. some recent stuff and a post or two have had me thinking about this fandom and how different it is from when dsmp was ongoing. it's,, pretty obvious that the fandom is quite a bit smaller and less active than that time, and there are generally a lot fewer people actively posting meta and such every day--which isn't necessarily a bad thing, and is natural obviously considering that the dsmp ended almost 2 years ago, but does mean that the culture around (?) meta and such has shifted, as well. it's one of those things too i think that is felt so much more obviously in dreblr, which is an even smaller group within this fandom that formed in response to uhhh being very much considered unwelcome by the greater fandom at the time.
that being said, as is the nature of all fandom, dreblr is still a community of people who are largely strangers who have gathered together because of one commonality: very strong feelings and often very strong opinions on the dream smp and c!dream. and i think when the fandom was more active, the entire fandom felt a lot more like a "pvp enabled" zone, lmao -- it was every other day when there'd be some new batshit meta about c!dream or some stream to react to and analyze and fight people about and whatever. since then, though, with the dsmp gone, the fandom has become quieter -- which i think has allowed some of the variation in opinions within dreblr become more and more obvious? and also become a sort of source of friction.
again, this is normal for any fandom. i'm certainly not here to agree with everyone about c!dream always, lmao. but the vagueing of takes is always more awkward on both sides when it's someone where you share more of the same circles. at the end of the day, it's up to each individual blogger's discretion to choose what they will or won't post on their own blog, but at the same time ... when it comes to the community, just speaking for myself, i don't want a super high barrier of entry when it comes to people feeling like they can't join this fandom unless they've got [xyz] experience or [xyz] takes.
when it comes to actual analysis of the source material, though, keeping meta a safe place for people to say "no, i don't agree with this take because of [xyz]" is important as well, which always raises the question of how said disagreements should be handled. and again, i'm no authority, i'm not here to tell people what to do. personally, when it comes to my own blog, i don't like to post very much directly about any one blogger, but I know I've definitely written posts inspired by specific takes before as well as screenshots of takes from the fandom's heyday, etc. i don't necessarily feel uncomfortable with this ...? but at the same time, i know that vagueposts can be a source of discomfort, especially if they're about your take in particular (speaking from experience) -- so it's you know. not the easiest line to draw, I guess, especially when we're talking about a community where different people are going to have different levels of comfort with what they post on their own blogs and what other blogs do in response to their takes. and whatever.
vagueposting, i think, has been common in the tumblr dsmp fandom for a long time, and especially in dreblr -- direct engagement in the past errr usually went badly, so a habit formed of keeping everything we did kind of within our own spaces (hence why many of us don't even tag c!dream or even dreblr on most of our posts; keeping everything untagged, or keeping the tagging system restricted to our own blogs, limited the possibility of trouble). that being said, vagueing within dreblr has become more common, i think, as disagreements within dreblr have become more and more obvious in the time since the dsmp ended. (just for the obvious example: i think it's a bit of an open secret that i, personally, strongly disagree with much of the common depictions of c!drunz in this fandom. i've written some meta about this before, as well as some responses to meta--which i enjoyed greatly, believe me--but i've also noticed (perhaps coincidence) an uptick in c!drunz positive meta every time i or someone else makes a post that maybe skews more negative. which is normal, don't get me wrong, but also a pattern i've noticed. i'm also very aware that someone the arguments i may bring up as counterarguments or structure my posts around arguing against are based on actual arguments i've seen while in this space, which i'm aware is an easy source of friction within dreblr.) and it's easy to say "don't take it personally when it's just metaanalysis," but that's easier said than done, lmao, especially depending on the tone of the vaguepost and a myriad of other factors.
i'm not saying that i have the answers. or, for that matter, a single answer. the boundaries i set aren't going to be the same as the boundaries other people set, for one, and i have no desire to police what other people do on their own blogs. i do miss, sometimes, the more collaborative and discussion-based meta experience of this fandom when it was more active--i might try to more actively reblog posts (including those i don't necessarily agree with) to discuss this server and these characters, bc at the end of the day that is kind of why we're here. personally, i've always drawn a pretty sharp distinction between fanwork and analysis -- i think it's pretty bad form to criticize people's AUs In General (not that i've not. been guilty of it in the past, but i try at least to keep it to criticizing more general patterns within fanwork; look, i'm not going to claim a moral high ground, i love bitching way too much and should probably get a handle on that but asj;lkfdsaf) but when we're talking meta about the source material, barring shit like. you know, harassment and otherwise abusive behavior, i do consider it more of a free-for-all. at the same time, i know that these standards can lead to newer fans feeling like they're going to be booed out the door for sharing their thoughts, which, i mean, isn't great 😭😭😭 fresh eyes can bring a lot of really cool new insights, and it'd suck pretty damn bad to miss that because they don't feel welcome, yknow?
anyway, this is a very inconclusive post, but i thought i'd just throw some of my thoughts out as someone who has been here for a decently long time. and if you want to discuss w/ me, inbox and dms are always open :)

Another mini! This one of Punz a little bit after arriving at the farm uvu
Since centaurs aren’t native to the land, and Punz not being fluid in the language yet, it takes a bit for the others to learn about centaur habits and culture. One of them being dressing! He was given a shirt right away but Sam eventually noticed he seemed flustered and uncomfortable with his state of dress, often trying to cover up his back and lower torso. This was momentarily fixed by borrowing one of Sylvee’s aprons and wrapping a sheet over his back, until Sam managed to find some reliable documentation on centaur culture and used that to help Sylvee and Hannah put together some actual proper clothes for Punz

has the dsmp been dead long enough to admit that i didn't understand why the transfem c!tommy headcanon was so popular? I don't mind it of course, transfems are lovely, and hc what you want, but most, if not all the people i saw headcanoning this took all the c!tommy away from c!tommy, and only kept his appearance.
All this to say, idm transfem c!tommy, but i don't understand why it was so popular

Can you ramble to me about anything with Philza pretty please
welp I'm working on Mandatory Family Reunion at this second, so. The absolute way MFR Philza just messes up his children each in such fun unique ways. Like the damage to Techno is OBVIOUS. Gaslighting minimizing destroying his entire sense of self etc etc. Philza is so deeply delusional, and the way he infects Techno is fascinating. But basically all of MFR is about that.
However, the way he hurts Wilbur and Tommy is so neat too, and I think it implies so much about Philza. Wilbur clearly has no sense of consequences for his actions ever. Which is crazy for a dude who has been doing various criminal activities. Super sheltered but thinks he isn't. And the way he's been left feeling incomplete, dedicating his entire life to getting back his 'other half'. And of course Philza gives him this whole talk about 'he is not replacing you' and 'our capacity for love grows' etc etc, promising Wil directly that he is equally loved. But like. He just clearly isn't. Philza is constantly, constantly paying 100% attention to Techno, which does ultimately lead to his down fall; Wilbur building the raid beneath his nose, being too depressed to properly rig the court case. Philza is utterly consumed with the mythos of his prodigal son, and forgot his 'eldest constant son' in the process. Like Wilbur word for word says he's just an attention whore, and Philza has so, so clearly shaped that. Grown up in the shadow of an impossibly perfect martyr that Philza built up in his head.
Plus Wilbur says he hasn't felt guilt since he was twelve, so he straight up just let a preteen into his criminal empire????? What is WRONG with him?
And Tommy. Ohhh Tommy. This is something I'll be really getting into chapter 11ish, but like Philza's severe paranoia was pretty detrimentous to him. Spending weeks in a bunker cut off from all his friends with no idea what's happening to his absent family? Hello? The strict scheduling and security makes me think Philza doesn't really let Tommy just spontaneously hang out with friends. See: actual months before he let Techno see even one friend (okay extreme case but still). And of course it's so very justified to Philza because welp he lost one kid before so no level of security is too much.
The fact Tommy thinks he was adopted to try and replace Techno. And. I mean maybe? Genuinely that might've been philza's angle?? At the VERY least Philza did not notice and cure that anxiety that his kid has. Obviously it didn't last long, but at the start Tommy really resents Techno in a way that's so unhealthy. Tommy is just screaming abandonment issues, really, especially during the Nether kidnapping. Philza promises to do better, of course. And then just doesn't, again. He completely shuts out everything but Techno the days leading to the final raid, and then lets himself go to jail. MFR Philza has all these pretty words, but he really, really does not back them up.
But also, he's lived every single second of the past 18 years in the minute he found Alexander's empty cradle, and I think it took Techno's last testimony for him to wake up. Philza spends most of MFR doubling down on the promises he's made about his happy ending for years. It's how he kept himself together and destroyed himself all at the same time.
Which, in comparison with The Lambs wolves wear Philza, it's really funny how both of them treat the mask of fatherhood. MFR Philza chasing perfect fatherhood so desperately to stave off the trauma of losing a child. And Lambs Philza forced into playing a perfect father no matter how much he hates it, again to stave off the trauma of losing a child. Anyway just funny they're both bad and fake at being a Dad in polar opposite ways.
Hold on I think Worth far more than your weight in gold Philza is also dadmoding to avoid dead child trauma. And Fault Philza gets Anderson killed and immediately stress adopts Wilbur as a coping mechanism. Honestly same with Tubbo. And Lord what fools these mortals be! Philza is kidnapping humans so he doesn't have to think about the horror of being a stagnate immortal.
Actually this is a really really funny trend I just found in my Philza's. Dad as coping mechanism and is kinda bad/traumatizing at it.

> are you happy? i guess that’s all i’d care to know.
> Getting there.
something about that speaks to me, i think. we’re all looking for scraps of happiness in our lives. we’re all trying to heal from old wounds. it’s not easy, and most days it’s a bitter fight with your own mind, but everyday you and him wake up and choose happiness and its another victory.

unable to watch the stream for health reasons (it’s why I stopped really interacting with mcyt stuff pains too bad to focus on live content) but I’m happy the kids got to write their own ending bc it’s clear they were fucked over by A Lot the adults on that server. and i don’t even mean just in a story sense these were like 15-18 year olds around so many scummy people. like there’s the Obvious but even outside of server regulars there were guests and at least one of those (MrBeast) was ALSO a a child predator that let groomers hang around and catered to them in his group chats. like I don’t even care what Jack or Tommy are like now they could be bank robbers I wouldn’t know I’m in too much pain to watch their shit but like, no matter what they didn’t deserve to be in dangerous environments as barely adults and not even that in tommys case and they didn’t deserve to have their art fucked over by those adults either. they’re allowed to write their own ending to that I think.

This is a request for a c! Tommy rant
PLEASE YOUR PERSPECTIVE IS SO INTRIGUING I NEED MORE
thank you:))
Okay I've sat on this for a few days because I didn't feel like I was coherent enough to answer it but I think I'm ready now. This is probably still not super coherent but here we go:
The two rules Tommy was given when he joined the server were “no griefing” and “no stealing”.
Obviously these rules stopped being enforced pretty quickly, but it’s worth noting that Tommy immediately and blatantly disregarded and broke these rules. And I think that Tommy as a character gets punished for this throughout the rest of the story, in a sort of karmic retribution gone overboard way.
Tommy took things from others and destroyed their things, so he is not allowed to keep anything he cares about ever again.
Obviously the discs are the biggest example of this, with how many times they changed hands and were fought over and were used to taunt Tommy. But it goes so much further than that.
L’manberg gets destroyed. He gets exiled by Schlatt. Henry gets killed. L’manberg gets destroyed again. Wilbur’s dead. He gets exiled by Tubbo.
Every day in exile, Dream destroys everything Tommy has. It’s not subtle. There he is, isolated from everyone, no friends, no items, nothing. And he breaks in exile, for many reasons, but the fact that everything, everything has been taken from him, and continues to be taken from him, is a big part of that.
He leaves exile and teams up with Techno, but ultimately decides that L’manberg (Tubbo) is more important to him.
The second Tommy chooses L’manberg, he’s not allowed to have it anymore.
And that’s the thing, right? Everything Tommy loses, it’s not about what those things mean to other people, it’s about the fact that Tommy cared about them. Sure, Techno had his motivations for destroying L’manberg, but Dream? The one pulling the strings? L’manberg needed to be gone because it was what Tommy cared about.
Which was kinda Dream’s whole deal right? If he controls what people care about, he controls the server. If he has Tommy’s discs, he should be able to control Tommy… right?
Except, for as much as the discs matter to Tommy, they are far from the only thing he cares about. He gives them up willingly for L’manberg’s independence. He gives them up a second time when he realizes he’s gone too far, putting them above Tubbo and fighting his best friend. Dream can’t use the discs to control Tommy because Tommy always has other things to care about, other things that would matter to him even if the discs were gone.
So what does Dream have to do?
Take everything else away.
What started with exile comes to a head during the final disc confrontation, with Dream once again making Tommy give up all his possessions the way he’d been conditioned to do. L’manberg is already gone, Dream dealt with that before, so all that’s left is Tubbo.
But things don’t go to Dream’s plan, Tommy convinced the rest of the server to come to his aid, and Dream was defeated.
(Don’t even TALK to me about the disc confrontation being staged by Dream, I don’t want to HEAR IT. It’s not canon to me and if you think I’m wrong. No I’m not <3)
Here’s the thing, though. When Dream was about to be killed a third time, Tommy is stopped by the chance that Dream could revive Wilbur.
Tommy has lost so much, over and over, and the chance to get his brother back is too much for him to go through with killing Dream.
Maybe Dream lost the confrontation, but he still found a way to use Tommy’s attachments against him.
So Dream is put in prison, Tommy has his discs back and, more importantly, Tubbo back. Maybe it’s not everything he once had, but it’s a lot more than he once did.
And then he goes to visit Dream. And Dream kills him.
Limbo is different for every character, but it’s generally supposed to be an experience that’s torturous. And all it takes for Limbo to be the worst thing Tommy has ever experienced is… nothing.
His Limbo is empty.
For all that he lost during exile, during the lowest point of his life… he’s left with even less than death.
All that’s there is the voice of a brother he couldn’t give up attachment to, who is no longer the brother he knew and loved. Who taunts and torments him during his time in that empty void. Wilbur might be there, but Tommy doesn’t even have his brother in Limbo. Not really.
And it kills me because Tommy is, or rather was, such an optimistic character. Not so much in the sense that he had a constant positive outlook, because clearly that wasn’t the case much of the time. But he could have his home destroyed and his friends turned against him and his possessions taken and his pets killed over and over and over and over again, and still find a way to keep going. Still find things to care about.
It generally took very little to make Tommy happy. He loved dirt huts and cobblestone towers and spiders and things that meant nothing to anyone else, that anyone else would treat with neutrality if not negativity.
But in Limbo there was nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Everything he had, gone.
Even his life was taken from him.
And in the aftermath, after his revival, he was never the same. He didn’t belong among the living, another thing that was taken from him. Wilbur was revived, but Wilbur was so different from the brother Tommy knew. Even then, Wilbur left him in the end.
I hate the finale for a lot of reasons, so I’m not going to go into it much. But the story ends with Tommy dead, again. Is he in Limbo again? Who knows. But Tommy was never allowed to keep anything, and the ending solidified this as true.
I started this by saying that Tommy was punished for breaking the rules of the server. And I think it’s interesting to read the story that way, where Tommy’s relatively small crimes end up resulting in him losing everything again and again and never breaking free of it. This is a story where gods and higher beings exist and are willing to interfere with the lives of the characters, so I don’t think it’s too far fetched to see this as a warped degree of karma. But I also think that what Tommy is punished for, perhaps more than the rule breaking, is the fact that he cares so much. He found joy and love in everything, so he was left with nothing. Because the Dream SMP is a cruel world controlled by a cruel man who became obsessed with Tommy. And Tommy paid the price, but he also never stopped caring for the things that mattered to him. He could be broken but not defeated, not as long as there was more for him to love.
Unfortunately, the story demanded his defeat, one way or another.
And that’s why his Limbo is empty.
