seeing as how you're a very big Niki fan, can you explain / summarize her character and her personality a bit? :D

I did kind of go somewhat into Niki’s character, personality and role in the story a few times before, but I am always happy to ramble on about Niki Nihachu, so will gladly ramble about her again!

For me, Niki is a character that is fire incarnate. She was the heart of L’Manburg, and when she declared that L’Manburg was dead, that was when L’Manburg truly died.

Niki has a warm heart. She’s generous, willing to give out food she baked herself to her friends, willing to give out resources even when she has so few of her own. She’s compassionate and empathetic, she heard all of L’Manburg telling her not to trust Eret, but she was willing to give Eret a chance. She’s got a charm to her that makes most trust her, a warm to her presence that has people wanting to be close to her.

Niki has the patience of a short fuse. She’s impulsive and passionate, which can lead to her not entirely thinking things through. You think Niki has the only brain cell of whatever group she’s in? Wrong! She’s not a moron, but she can do silly and even stupid stuff, simply because she got too excited.

Niki is a wildfire. When told not to do something, she makes it clear that she will still do it if she believes that it’s the right thing, and she doesn’t back down even if pushed. She burns hot and bright and furious when angered. She’s vindictive when crossed, she will not allow anyone to hurt her and get away with it. Beneath the kindness and gentleness, she’s hothead and reckless when angered. Vengeance is a calling she will always answer.

But to me, her main defining character trait is her loyalty. The kindness and generosity she showcased? That was because she was loyal to her friends, and that was a way of proving it. She was willing to fight in so many wars, more than most characters, all because she was loyal to someone in the conflict. She will not allow even the cruelest of punishments to stop her from remaining loyal. Even her vindictiveness and anger is often fueled by feelings of being betrayed and used.

Niki wears her heart on her sleeves, and this can lead to a lot of people thinking that what the see is what they get. They just see a quiet, nice girl. But Niki is more than meets the eye. She is resilient, courageous, determined and strong-willed. And she is an incredibly underappreciated character.

Remus let out a little gasp at Sirius’s frame.

His robes were loose, even though they were perfectly fitted to him right before break. He was pale, his skin almost translucent. He was twitching at every movement, as if he were scared.

And the biggest change?

His hair had all been cut off.

The long, luscious locks that Remus adored so much had been shaved off, leaving nothing behind.

Remus really needed to sucker punch Orion and Walburga Black right about now.

“C’mere,” he said instead, opening his arms to his boyfriend, who flinched.

Oh, Remus was going to murder his parents.

“Sweetheart, I won’t hurt you,” he murmured, keeping his movements slow and deliberate. “Promise.”

And slowly, Sirius made his way over. 

Once his boyfriend was safely in his arms, Remus pressed a kiss to the top of his head. “Hey, seren.”

“Hi, Moons.” Sirius’s voice was small, meek.

“Anything hurt?”

“Not really.” He tried to grin, but it didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Just the hair’s missing, this time.”

“Alright. We can fix that in a moment with the emergency Manegro Potion, alright?”

Sirius nodded, burying his face into Remus’s sweater.

I just made a wonderful connection. have you perhaps seen the movie Four brothers??? the character Jack mercer interpreted by Garrett Hedlund looks so much like your version of Sebastian. I was just wondering if you seen it and you were inspired or if it's just a beautiful coincidence 😭🙏🏼

ive actually never seen the movie but i saw him while scrolling thru pinterest and thought he'd make a nice sam reference. Mostly for the hair and facial expressions!

With Sebastian, i don't use any references. However, as far as looks go he is almost a replica of my OC Emi (down to the piercings), which tbh i developed for years purely out of "how do i make him handsome af" lmao :3

Hi I've seen you use the tag transfeminism a lot but I've never seen anyone else talk about it? Would you mind explaining it, or if not maybe pointing me in the direction of what to read to understand it? Thanks a lot in advance! <3

Yeah absolutely!

The most broad and basic premise of transfeminism is: it is feminist practice that works to incorporate the experiences of trans individuals into a feminist framework.

Depending on what theorists you engage with transfeminism is either a framework for the liberation of all trans individuals from the Patriarchy - or it solely focuses on the experiences of trans women and fems. I personally ascribe to the theories of the former, not the latter.

The best, and easiest, place to start with transfeminist theory in my opinion is with Emi Koyama's "Transfeminist Manifesto" - [ here ]. The first 10 pages are the Manifesto as originally written. The last 5 are a postscript to the manifesto and a bonus piece about racist feminism. I highly recommend reading the postscript, I find it fundamental to my own understanding of transfeminist praxis.

You can read more of Koyama's work on her website - [ here ] - and I highly recommend it! She's a profound trans and intersex advocate.

I also recommend trans theorists that pre-date Koyama such as Kate Bornstein, Leslie Feinberg, and Judith Butler. They're all nonbinary trans theorists across a multitude of identities and experiences. I love this interview with Feinberg and Bornstein a lot - [ here ].

Feinberg was prolific and the first author to truly advance the concept of transgender liberation - hir website [ here ] has a free PDF download of hir book Stone Butch Blues and several other resources on hir work and life.

Bornstein's books Gender Outlaw: On Men, Women, and the Rest of Us and Gender Outlaws: The Next Generation are go-to's of mine regarding a relatively modern history and understanding of trans identity. Her My Gender Workbook: How to Become a Real Man, a Real Woman, a Real You, or Something Else Entirely really helped shape my own relationship to my gender identity really positively and profoundly!

Judith Butler's most recent book Who's Afraid of Gender is also incredibly good, however it is incredibly dense in an academic sense. It personally takes me weeks to get through Butler's writing because it is so jammed with information - and that's not to their discredit, it's just the way they write. I highly recommend looking up some of their talks and interviews on YouTube as they're an easier introduction to their work.

Personally, I don't like Julia Serano as an author all that much, but she is still an influential transfeminist voice to be aware of because she coined and popularized the term transmisogyny. I personally have a lot of criticism of her work - particularly her seminal work Whipping Girl - because it explicitly, in her own words, is intended to be distinctly different from the work of Feinberg, Bornstein, and Riki Wilchins (another nonbinary intersex activist) and is more interested in societal perception and binary trans womanhood over politics and liberation. It also stands in opposition to a lot of the liberationist ideals of the Feminists she claims to be inspired by. I've read the whole book twice over now and in my opinion it reeks of White Feminism. I don't recommend it outside of reading it for context to the wider transfeminist discourse.

Transfeminism as a whole is also deeply entangled with the politics of Black and Intersectional Feminist politics, as many of those previously mentioned authors worked with, worked around, or were inspired by authors like Audre Lorde and bell hooks. As such I highly recommend both of them as authors as well!! I think their work really helps set the framework transfeminist theory is also built around.

hi! the addition of c!niki to c!sbi is something i (for some reason) never considered before, but now i fully just see her as part of the group. like, yeah. that's their sister. time to go write about them being family, i appreciate your c!niki appreciation 🫡

I have made a lot of posts about Niki in SBI, and honestly I just think it makes the dynamic more neat!

With over 20,000 works, SBI is still going strong, but I think its getting a bit repetitive. Now, some of this is from people getting inspired by the same fics and trying their own take, leading to the same five fics being rewritten over and over again. And while it is still fun to read SBI fics, adding Niki and Kristin just makes it pop.

There haven't been many fics with SBI+ in them, but the few fics I have read have been very fun. Niki adds a nice balance to the dynamic - she's a very nice and kind character, very generous and loyal, but she's also stubborn, passionate, impulsive and hotheaded. Techno, Phil and Wilbur are all good at stealth and hiding their motives through being subtle, Tommy is good at acting as a distraction and playing dumb, Niki is more likely to be blunt and say what she really means.

There is also the skills she brings to the table. Obviously, she can cook and bake, but she can also sew, she expresses an appreciate for flowers and plants, she clearly loves animals and even took care of Henry back when Tommy was exiled to Pogtopia, and her content creator counterpart can even play the guitar. So everyone is justified with having all the SBI+ kids all play musical instruments. Again, just so many opportunities to add to SBI fics with just the addition of one character.

I just really, really like Niki in SBI, and I think more people should play with it because some of my favorite SBI fics have Niki as part of SBI.

CECILS SIGNATURE SPELL:

“Sorcerers’ Stand-Still”

Renders a person or people frozen in place like a statue unable to move or speak until the caster either releases it, runs out of magic reserves to hold it, or it runs it’s course and wears off on it’s own.

A person is consciously aware that they are frozen in place. There’s no protection qualities here, they’re just stuck. It doesn’t seem like much, but he knows how to use it.

Inspiration: The “Standstill Stone” spell that Cedric used to briefly take over the kingdom in season 4 premiere of Sofia the First.

NYOKAS SIGNATURE SPELL:

“Mark of Evil”

intrusive thoughts the spell

His magically-infused cobra venom can affect someone's mind and remove their morality and act on cruel impulses if injected via bite. His magic inflicts waves of pain and makes it difficult for a victim to think and control their own actions. So long as the spell is active early on, Nyoka can influence them almost like accomplices for his own means.

It’s not immediately obvious to anyone else that a person is under a spell at all. However, as the effect goes on, the victim becomes more and more openly uncharacteristic, irritable and difficult for Nyoka to steer influence as their psyche and personality continues to fall apart. Self destruction is almost guaranteed, so it’s ideal to release them before it reaches that point.

Don’t worry, venom won’t be lethal this time because magic, but a victim’s memory will be hazy and they will be quite a bit sore afterwards. 👍 He has more incentive not to use it. But, hey if you wanna feel less bad about doing something terrible-

Inspiration: The magic bite Ushari inflicts on Kion at the start of season 3 of the Lion Guard, and the maddening effects it causes from that moment on till the end of the show. (Heavily paraphrased.)

Kinda curious on how gigantron and ultraman first met and how they become lovers? And also wanna know did they do the boombayah to make emi? Or nah ultraman is just emi step dad?

My idea is that Gigabtron is a teacher at the local elementary school. The one that Minus 1, Suko , Battra jr, Gigan’s little sister, ultra zero and the rest of the little kids go to.

I image that they met at a party for the local school district and immediately Ultraman was smitten. He definitely asked Shimo for help when first trying to talk to her, as I imagine he was much too nervous to go up to her directly.

They bonded over a passion for education and a love of reading. They hit it off pretty quickly and started dating rather soon. They got married after 4 years, and then a year in they had Emi.

So yes, in this AU, Emi is half Kiju half ultra. But she’s more or less the same as she is in the movie, maybe she’ll have some cool ultra powers when she’s older but for now, she is baby
