Mouse vs Bloody Rose || Chapter 13: Sweet Sixteen

I made a volume 10 trimax vash cosplay for MAGfest and I am SO proud of how it came out :) Some process stuff below! Warning for image and text heavy.

Truthfully this cos is only about 85% complete—I’d purchased a bunch of hardware to really go in on a volume accurate version of his undersuit and belts, but simply ran out of time before the con. It was the first cosplay I’ve sewn since 2017 and the first wig styling I’ve done since 2020, so I’m not gonna beat myself up too much!

(This is all purse hardware off Etsy and some buttons from M&J trim)

This was my first time ever making a muslin mock-up, but I knew it was going to be necessary to get the coat to lay the way I wanted it to. I really wanted to try and create proportions that elongated the legs/torso and widened the shoulders by placing the coat tail splits appropriately and raising up the shoulders with some padding. And of course arm and leg details that I’ll get to someday lol.

I created two mock-ups. One of basic muslin that helped me go from an existing pre-bought pattern to something more Vash-shaped, then a second one on a slightly sturdier scrap fabric with my finalized torso proportions with padding so I could accurately pattern out the sleeves and collar.

I was tracing my pattern pieces onto newsprint and vellum as I went, so once all of those were finalized, it was time to cut my fabric! I used a heavy cotton twill from B&J fabrics and two kinds of fusible interfacing from Mood (I’m spoiled by being local to the fashion district these days). A smarter person would have bought a thinner fabric to line the inner torso with, but I did not feel like getting that complicated with my first ever muslin-drafted AND lined project, so I simply cut double of every pattern piece in order to create a lining.

Sleeves were done by interfacing and cutting into a top panel, carefully snipping at the cutout portions, ironing and fabritacking in place, and then top stitching the whole piece to the main sleeve. I later added some leather backing squares and interfacing behind the larger eyelets for aesthetic while keeping the ventilation in tact. Ideally in the future I'll also add a strip of fabric to the gun arm that creates a slight bunching effect since that sleeve is a little more ruffled over the cuff. Photos below also include three shoulder pads pinned together on each shoulder, but I ended up forgetting not using them on my final wear.

Unfortunately at this point I was approaching con time, so I started cutting some corners that I made easily replaceable for future upgrades. The coat tabs are just painted craft foam cut to the size of the buttons, tacked in place where the button pierces through the tab and where it wraps around the edge of the front panel. The straps that attach to the lapel and wrap under the arms also were just decorated with some silver trim instead of hardware, and I skipped the side button panels at his hips for pattern-making simplicity and time. They'll be added later! I'd also love to do some weathering, but don't think I can quite bring myself to riddle the coat tails with bullet holes as some people do haha.

Gun arm attachment was also a quick and dirty addition, just some vinyl trim on eva foam attached with contact cement and a decorative button. First time working with contact cement somehow, but I look forward to also being able to upgrade this at a later date to a more accurate shape with the full belt attachments!

I was also hoping to update the shoes a bit by making some boot covers for them and rub-n-buffing the soles to disguise the platform a bit, but I love my pick for the cleat-look that Vash has! Some good ol' Demonias in classic vash fashion :)

Last but not least: The Wig. My pride and joy.

I got lucky enough to nab an Arda sale, I think right before Halloween, and picked up the Morpheus lace front in black, along with some extra wefts in pale blonde. (I also bought a whole separate pale blonde Morpheus wig, boldly thinking I could swing a normal trimax vash wig lol. It made for a convenient Eriks wig in the mean time.)

Since I was aiming for the end of volume 10 post-Wolfwood death look, I started by trying on the wig, roughly tracing out my hairline, then gently unweaving that portion of black in order to re-ventilate it with blonde.

After I replaced that whole strip of plucked hair, I tried on again to finalize where I needed to ventilate to cover my own hairline, and completed my outline with both blonde and brown-black wefts (i had them on hand lol). All in all, I ventilated more than 4 square inches of blonde, and at least a solid centimeter extension of the black hairline across the whole front of the wig. Probably close to 30 hours of work in the ventilating alone, but I am a little slow since I haven't ventilated in a few years and didn't keep clear track of time.

If there's one thing I should be used to by now about Arda wigs, they are THICK. There is zero teasing in this wig. None. Just got2b, a blowdryer, and a prayer. And a good load of bobby pins. The wig was also sadly a last minute hotel room mad dash, and I do hope to restyle it under less duress, but I do think I successfully achieved the Trimax swoop and am very proud of it! It was unbelievably windy on the walk from our hotel room to MAGfest, so the photos in the start of this post show a bit more droop than my initial styling, but I think I'll be able to touch things up next wear.

And of course, shoutout to my partner for gifting me the official glasses for Christmas :) And thank you to my roommates who barely saw me for a month and a half except for when I needed help with a hem lol.

All in all, I am unbelievably proud of this cosplay, I can't wait to put some more love into it and wear it again!

I liiiiiiive!!! So, a "little" over 10 days, but hey, that's just how my brain works, I guess. I had to split this one because it would have been too long. I DON'T HAVE THAT KIND OF TIME

Also, I can't believe I didn't realize the chapters on Wattpad have been out of order for who knows how long. So, I'd like to apologize for anyone who was confused by that (it has been fixed).

This is my first ever fanfic, but seeing as we've reached, I believe 3 years on it now, it's painful to reread it and see how many writing styles it's lived through. Maybe one day when its finished and my brain can handle it, I'll do rewrites and fixes.

On the other hand, for my Tumblr users, I am so sorry for whatever is going on with my masterlist. I'm not sure which one, but it seems like one of the chapters is missing from it. Being 'not grounded' was a lot less terrible than you had initially thought. Though you were pretty sure that was due to the fact that for once the group stayed on the edge for more than a week before Dagur or some other problem decided to ruin your day. Mind you there had been a few times that the others rushed someone towards you due to a dragon burn, fractured wrist or other injury. But in all fairness, it was comforting. It reminded you of being back on Berk, and taking care of your sick patients, but without all of the stress. Fishlegs in particular has been so sweet and considerate as far in helping take over smaller injuries.

As much as you wanted to get back out there with the others and Silver Tongue, the amount of care the others showed you was enough to keep you sane.

What wasn't keeping you sane however, was the egregious number of stairs plaguing the edge. As the resident 'doctor' of the edge you had hoped that you telling the others hiking a marathon to get to the clubhouse, with a history of concussions, was in no one's best interest, would have a little more weight.

"Ugh" you groaned. Damn it, why did you have to think of the word weight. Every step felt like lugging around a basket of Meatlug's quartzite. Luckly you were currently walking downhill, craving the sweet break you had so perfectly crafted.

You had to hand it to Fishlegs, his Zen Garden was without a doubt the most peaceful and quiet place on the edge. But your brain found it nearly impossible to relax in silence doing nothing. It just stung you wrong. Not being active.

"eugh" you shuddered at the thought. Yeah. Unnatural.

No. Your sanctuary was the small flat grass beds next to your hut that you had turned into a lovely little garden. Your perfect patch of land you had managed to sca-.... haggle, from Snotlout was perfect for this unwilling sentence you had been given.

It also had to be the best smelling place on the edge. Lush with lavender, thyme sprouts, and an assortment of flowers. Some of them were medicinal, but others were purely aesthetic. The daffodils were a personal favorite. Exclusive to early spring, but so bright and colorful.

Being the lowest elevated of the huts, you were just able to make out the sound of the waves breaking in the shore while you worked outside. As well as gifting you a superb view of the shoreline stretching around the island in a bowl shape. It also had the unwanted effect of being the farthest from the pens and the clubhouse. But hey, who was keeping track?

You....

It was always going to be you.

You flopped onto the large sunbathing body strewn about in your yard. "Can you get better faster? I think my feet are going to get abs at this rate". Silver Tongue let out a sour huff before he did a quick jolt, sending you and Scabbard rolling off.

You sighed, shifting to face the now turned away form of your dragon, "Not a morning guy huh?".

The gang took turns when it came to cooking, today was yours. Both Fishlegs and Hiccup had offered to take over for you while Silver Tongue was recovering, but that was the last thing you needed. Unfortunately, that did leave you getting up at ungodly hours just to walk to the clubhouse, cook, eat, and walk back down.

Thank Thor you didn't have to worry about it until next week as of now. Mutton was simple. And not necessarily a breakfast food, but you were able to make enough for everyone. And now you could rest.

Closing your eyes you listened to the soft lapping of the waves beneath you, enjoying the warmth of the early morning sun on your back.

You liked doing this, the water felt so close. Honestly, in all actuality that probably wasn't a good thing. Being lower to the ground meant you were the most likely to have your hut stormed in an invasion. Then again, you doubted anyone would willingly climb up a cliff just to land in front of a temperamental ass of a dragon.

Dagur would

You hissed out your nose... well, there went your peace. You sat up quickly, walking over to your garden.

Dagur...

That stupid man.

You grumbled as you plopped down onto your stool, muttering to yourself as you began to whittle posts for your cherry gourds to grow on. The mere thought of him managed to sour your entire mood. Sensing the turn in energy, Scabbard began to rub herself against your shins, letting out a purr sweet enough to lift the corners of your dour frown.

Maybe blaming it all on Dagur was a little unfair, it had been weeks of repeating the same routine all the while having to deal with a grumpy sick dragon, and the incessant nagging at the back of your head that your brother didn't trust you.

Though, it was wrong to say that when you didn't even trust yourself. You dreamt of that day on the Hunters ship. Nightmare was the more appropriate term. Hiccup would ask you how you were feeling and what he could do to help. You knew it wouldn't help.

Bringing it up would only make the feeling fresh and strong. Moral in the group was back to normal now that everyone knew they could trust Heather again. You didn't want to destroy that because of your own problems.

Heather was behind enemy lines, Viggo had yet to be revealed, and Dagur was on the loose. It was too risky to make things personal.

"Ow" a sharp pain stung your hand as the knife slid along the wood in a strange angle, cutting into your palm. Wincing, you looked down at your now bleeding hand. Well, that was certainly a metaphor for something. Scabbard began to squirm from her spot at your feet. Climbing your legs to perch on your shoulder, all but shoving her massive head into your hand to get a better look.

"This is what you get for complaining" you scolded yourself, pushing Scabbard away with your uncut hand "Positives! Positives!".

Astrid had been one of your main sources of entertainment. Taking you on patrol with her so you could spend some time in the air. You never realized how dependent you were on Silver Tongue until now.

Wait no! That turned into a negative. You groaned, grabbing a clean cloth to wrap your hand, careful not to get blood on your finished post.

You had also realized how much you missed spending time with your best friend. Sure, you spent time together and had fun every once and a while. But it was nice to have some, one on one. Silver Tongue was less than amused at being left out, but when wasn't he. It was funny to say the least. As much as he sulked when you were gone, what really set him off was Scabbard bonding with Stormfly. The big oaf loved to pretend she was a nuisance and a chore, but the moment she makes new friends he gets jealous.

Being trapped on the Edge was so boring you actually caught yourself enjoying Astrid's morning fly's, or in other words, 'totally not a patrol'. Usually, the idea of getting up to move fast in the cold and misty morning air would make you gag. But you were growing in appreciation for the ability to be back in the air.

A loud thud sounded as if on cue, Stormfly landed not far from your garden.

"I can't believe those two" Astrid complained as she entered your room.

"They left two dummies to guard the entire Edge!" she began to march back and forward once she passed the small stone wall that lined the garden, "Seriously, could you imagine what could have happened if the hunters had been there last night?".

"Uh huh" you said, not looking away from your hands. Astrid huffed, "You're not even listening to me, are you?".

"I am. But you did just trample my celery, so you're not very high on my list right now" you smile at the groan of annoyance she let out when she looked down to see that you were not in fact joking. "Well, if you don't wanna listen, I'm going to tell Hiccup" Putting down your post you turn to her, "Oh, could you grab me some fish from the pens for Silver Tongue?".

"Sorry, you're not very high on my list right now" Astrid tried to sound angry, but the cynical smile she failed to hide gave her away. And you watched as your chance of avoiding the stairs moved to close the door behind her.

An added weight to your head followed by a tail blocking your vision with a low purr told you well enough that someone else was happy at the idea of you being forced to have some alone time. "Don't think I'm carrying you" Scabbard let out a cough of fire in disapproval.

"Dummies, you say?" you heard Tuff ask as you made it to the clubhouse's ledge, embarrassingly out of breath with a perked-up Scabbard on your head.

"She does. Poor confused thing" Ruff shook her head with a look of pity. Scabbard quickly leapt into action, lunging at another terror that seemed to have given Hiccup a message, into a playful tackle.

"What you fail to realize in your foggy morning state, is that those are not dummies. They are scare ships" Astrid pressed a hand against her head, likely to aid the oncoming headache, "Scare ships? You're serious?".

"You didn't see any ships near the island. Did you? I think not. And why? They were appropriately scared away. By the appropriately named, Scare ships"

Astrid turned to the two of you, mainly Hiccup, "Are you following any of this?".

"Not super closely. I'm actually reading this" he gestured to the note in his hands, "It's from Johann, he's in trouble". You exchanged worried looks.

"Right, Fishlegs, Snotlout, we're heading out" he called to the two still inside enjoying their breakfast.

"Oh no. You are not leaving me with these two mutton heads" Astrid semi-whispered. Much to the offended twin's annoyance, "She knows we're standing right here, right?".

"Of course, not" Hiccup said, making Astrid let out a sigh of relief. "I'm leaving you with these three mutton heads" he smiled while gesturing to you, "Hey, what did I do!?".

"Look, Johann is surrounded by Dragon Hunters, and his ship is taking on water. We have to get out there and help him".

"Then, let me saddle up Stormfly, I'll be there in-" Hiccup cut her off. "Astrid, you need to stay here and hold down the Edge. And make sure nothing happens to the Dragon Eye" he held out the spy glass, to be begrudgingly accepted.

"Welcome to team grounded" you say, propping your head on your hand with a sarcastic hooray. "Y/N, come on, you know you're not grounded" Hiccup argued.

"Then can you ground me, because being 'not grounded' sucks" Astrid looked to your brother with a near pleading expression, using your case as an example," I can't believe what's happening. This may actually be the worst day in history".

"Astrid, Snotlout and I have the only working dragon armor, and Meatlug is immune to the Dragon Hunters' arrows" Fishlegs bristled giddily, showering her in praises for being such a good boulder class dragon.

"Hiccup, please! For all that is sacred in Thor's world you cannot leave me alone with these two-"

"What do you say? Simpletons? Blockheads?" Tuff. "I was always partial to dimwit myself. it rolls trippingly off the tongue" Ruff. "Oh yeah. Watch this. What wit dim, would the twins dim wit, id dim wits could wit dim? Say that five times fast" the two laughed as Astrid dragged her hand down her face, "You see what I'm talking about, right?".

"Hey, it's not like we woke up this morning hoping to spend 24/7 with you either, Astrid. I mean you are not exactly a picnic. And I think you know what I'm saying. You have not ever been a blanket on a grassy knoll with delicious food" Hiccup groaned at the turn in direction the conversation had taken.

"But we are team players. We will do what in necessary for the good of the group. Hence, we shall remain behind and enjoy your good company, my fair Astrid" Tuff gave an exaggerated bow, "even if you have no blankets, or grassy knolls to offer".

"We'll be back by tomorrow at the latest. Just do the best you can. Okay?" Hiccup put a hand on Astrids shoulder comfortingly. "Aw no speech or encouragement for me to stay?" you ask.

"You don't need to be convinced, you just like to complain" sad and hurtful, but true. You huff a pout and mumble mockingly at your brother as he walks away.

"Bye we'll miss you. Write home often" Tuff waved, "Okay, I think the first team building exercise we should perform is that of going back to sleep. I mean, as a team, of course".

"I have to go hide this" she shook the Dragon Eye, "And when I get back, I expect both of you to be sweating profusely from hard work". The two made faces, turning away.

"You know that's not gonna happen" Astrid turns to you. "Please tell me that you're going to help me with those two".

"I prefer to stay away from drama" you crossed your arms with a smile. "Since when?" Astrid yelled as you turned to walk away towards the kitchen. "Since now" you giggled, the look of horror plastered on Astrid's face having made your day.

It took an embarrassingly long time to finish your chores, leaving you sweating in the son at the top of the club house stairs. Hiccup really needed to come up with a plan for getting around the edge easier. You were beginning to feel your ankle buckle, it was fine for now, but you made sure to be extra careful not to slip, a harsh landing may just finish you off at this rate.

"Ok. Yak face is fed. Posts are done. And the rat is moisturized" Scabbard squirmed lazily against the wood stairs with a grumble at the insult.

After being forced to trek the distance back and forth between your hut and the others you were scared to even look at the winding path again. No, you weren't going back down those steps until there was absolutely zero chance you would be needed back here.

Looking to the sky it was starting to get dark, the sun struggling to peak beyond the horizon. A multitude of heavy and light thuds clued you in to the hulking shadow of Stormfly.

Her rider strut close by, arms crossed in a sign of her mood.

"What's wrong?" you sat up to turn to her, an uncomfortable feeling in your gut when she avoided eye contact.

"You guys know I respect you, right?" the question caught you off guard. "Well... You hold yourself to a very high standard. Which is admirable" you held your hands up when she gave you a pointed stare, "You just.... also happen to hold everyone else to the same impossible standard". Astrid groaned, whether it was from annoyance with you or herself remained to be seen.

"Astrid!" the two of you turned towards the screaming and running Tuff. "Tuffnut, breathe. What's going on?" Astrid put a hand on his back as he hunched over gasping.

"You have got to do something about those stairs. I mean there must be hundreds of then, there's over ten at least. Honestly, Y/N, I don't know how you do it".

"That's it? The stairs?" Tuff shook his head, "No it's Ruffnut. They got Ruffnut".

"Who did?" You were quick to ask.

"Dragon hunters"

Jack finds telenovelas and soap operas kind of nonsensical and overly dramatic, but he also gets hooked on the plot pretty quick and soon enough it would become a bit of a guilty pleasure

Do you have any headcanons about Dunmeri hair customs? Like, how the different Great Houses + Ashlander Tribes distinguish themselves?

Up to getting this ask, I only had a vague headcanon about Chimer vs Dunmer hairstyles, but this one got my thoughts chugging during work today!

My general thoughts on the Chimer vs Dunmer is that Chimer hair styles were typically looser, messier looking, and "wild" than modern Dunmer, who typically keep their hair more controlled and away from their face. With Ashlanders being more traditionalists and assumedly having had less change in their culture over time, they probably have styles more similar to the Chimer than the Houses in the modern day.

Now some ideas for the Houses:

Indoril - Their general piety means that style trends almost always originate in the Temple in one way or another, and other styles are seen as tacky. Almalexia and her court are common sources for trends and styles. If she does something new with her hair, the style is quick to spread throughout Indoril cities. Since her hair is typically shown in a kind of dramatic up-do, I can see this being a popular kind of look among Indoril women in general. Accessories are common, even in common day-to-day styling.

Redoran - Their strong connection to the military and warrior-hood means that practical and simple styles that keep hair short or otherwise out of the way (tied up, braided, etc.) are more common. Fancy or hard to maintain styles and accessories are seen as gaudy and trashy. While Almalexia has a lot of influence of Indoril styles, Vivec has more so with Redoran.

Hlaalu - trends and customs change fast and are highly influenced by foreign trends compared to the other houses since there is more cultural exchange going on. What other cultures have more influence depends on the era, with Imperial trends obviously having more effect under Imperial occupation and Nordic trends having more effect during the Ebonheart pact for example.

Telvanni - In general I picture their whole aesthetic and clothing styles as (from an outside perspective) psychedelic and tacky and bizarre looking, so I imagine their hair is the same. Tall, complex styles, sometimes even requiring magic/enchantments to stay in place, eccentric tastes, unnatural dyed colors, etc. Telvanni clothing and hair aesthetics appear very gaudy, impractical, and opulent to outsiders, but are often a status symbol among their own.

I don't have any strong ideas for Dres, Sadras, or Dagoth unfortunately.

One last thought I have is about mohawks, because Nerevar and the Ordinators are depicted with one. At first I thought that the connection to Nerevar would make them a popular style among Indoril, but I also wonder if their connections to Ordinators would instead make them associated with the military or police (in the way a buzzcut can irl in certain contexts) and would therefore be avoided or used as a hair style based on someone's association with that aesthetic. Maybe that would make them more common among Redoran (although a shorter version so they wouldn't get in the way)? Perhaps while they might have a militaristic connotation among the houses, they are actually genuinely popular among Ashlanders, who maintain the same style influences that Nerevar himself might've back in the day.

I'm not great with hair designing/styling in general (example: I keep my hair super short because I don't want to deal with it lol) but I tired with some general ideas. Maybe I'll come back this weekend and doodle some examples when I get the chance! Thanks for the interesting idea to ponder!

dress style, makeup/hair (none of these pictures are me btw)

i would say my fashion style is pretty simple day-to-day. i love feeling put together without it ever looking like i tried too hard. my go-to pieces are wide-leg jeans, short little tops or fitted cardigans, and either a black or brown leather jacket depending on the vibe that day. i really like chesty, cropped tops too, i like to show off that area lol. but i usually balance it with something looser on the bottom like wide-leg jeans or a mini skirt. i tend to reach for mini skirts and tight skirts way more than long ones — i’ll wear a long skirt maybe once in a blue moon, but it’s definitely rare, they’re super cute tho i need to wear them more. sundresses are a huge staple for me when it’s warm, especially lighter colors like white, pale blue, or soft florals. i couldn’t find good photos, but the colors of my outfits definitely change depending on the vibe and the weather. right now it’s a lot of light colors and blues and pinks, but when winter hits, it’s usually a rotation of whites, blacks, browns, and deeper neutrals. for shoes, it’s usually something simple like trainers if i’m being casual, but if i’m dressing up a little more, i love boots or a cute little heel, nothing too heavy.

when i do put proper effort in — like if i’m abroad, going on a date, or there’s a special occasion — i would say my style definitely gets more… cunty, sorry i know that’s so cringe but i genuinely don’t know how else to describe it. listen i never used to dress the way i do now but i’m honestly in a very confident and self loving era and i work hard at the gym!! i wanna show it off lol and i like dressing up a lot. i’m not shy about showing a lot more skin. i’ll go for deeper necklines, fitted skirts, short dresses, little tops, i like showing my collarbone omg and i love showing a lot of legs and cleavage sometimes. it’s definitely a switch-up from my day-to-day look, but it’s something i like keeping for special moments. like a little version of myself that only comes out when the setting feels right. i love that balance between soft and feminine but still bold enough.

i’m quite into makeup, honestly it’s something i find a lot of comfort and creativity in. my style is probably a mix between clean girl makeup and soft glam — i love that fresh, glowy base, minimal but intentional eye makeup, and soft, flushed cheeks, but i’m also not afraid to amp it up a little when i’m in the mood. my eyelashes, eyebrows, and nails are always done, without fail, i genuinely dedicate at least one day every couple of weeks to making sure they’re all touched up and looking good because it makes me feel the most like myself. it’s my favourite day fr it’s also a day where i treat myself to a lot of sushi lol.

my hair is kind of its own thing too — it’s not perfectly straight, but it’s not super curly either, it naturally sits somewhere between soft beach waves and a gentle blowout. i always make sure my hair feels bouncy and soft. i’m also a gym girly and into skincare, i’m that type of girl who puts a lot of effort into going to bed with face masks, full skincare, full night time pamper routine so i wake up looking more beautiful lol. i am also an early bird the latest i sleep is 12 (unless when i’m with my boyfriend he keeps me up all night… 😈)

ATEEZ Wooyoung MBTI Analysis

- ESFP -

An in-depth analysis of an idol's MBTI type. Based on my opinion and observations, may change later. Not an expert.

ESFP (Se - Fi - Te - Ni)

Dom: Se (Extroverted Sensing)

A perceiving function that uses our 5 senses to process the external world.

Wooyoung is always aware of the present moment, quick to react and to take action. He also pays attention to physical things such as aesthetics, the visuals of the performance, the way he looks, etc physical appearances matter a lot to him.

He enjoys photography and videography, which are pretty good activities for Se - it allows him to use his senses to make visually stimulating images and videos. Physically engaging activities seem like the best way to energize him e.g cooking and riding a bike. Cooking is great for his Se as it engages with all his senses - all the movement in cooking, tasting the foods, the aromas, watching the food cook, plating, maybe he enjoys hearing the sounds of food cooking as well and/or the way kitchen tools slightly hit each other (e.g knife on a cutting board).

This moment especially was an incredibly Se dom moment. Comparing it to Si user Jongho (Si has to step back and assess first), being the Se dom he is, Woo just went for it.

I was expecting this remake to be good (I mean, it's kind of difficult to make a game as perfect as TTYD into something bad), but I was genuinely surprised by just how much love was poured into it. You can really feel the developers' respect for the original game. They could have made a quick-and-easy copy-paste of the original and we would have been grateful enough for that alone. But they took the time to make an already-beloved game into the best possible version of itself. From fully realizing the paper play aesthetic, to cutting out the tedious backtracking, every new detail about this remake was clearly added with such care (yes, even the details I personally wasn't a fan of lol). It's the same familiar and comforting experience from my childhood, and yet it's also fresh and exciting. I never would have guessed that we'd get something like this after so many years of Nintendo awkwardly dodging around the fact that the series just hasn't been quite as good since they abandoned TTYD's gameplay structure and worldbuilding (though I still have an immense amount of love for Super Paper Mario regardless).

Thousand-Year Door holds a very special place in my heart, distinct from the other games I played and loved growing up. It was wonderful to see that the same holds true for everyone who worked on this remake. And even more wonderful to know that now people who were never able to play the original can finally experience what I believe is Paper Mario at its absolute best.

I haven't been on Tumblr in years. How do you do this shit again? Anyway, given the collapse of Twitter/X I heard a lotta people flocked back here. I'm not mad at it cuz Tumblr definitely raised me, for better or worse. Anyway, I mainly just wanted a place to post my art progress as I continue to grow my skills.

Quick introduction I guess: I am a 25-year-old Black and queer writer who has also been learning how to draw for about a year. I've discovered a passion for learning to realize all of the concepts in my head, and it's been a fun ride, albeit a little inconsistent. This blog is nothing serious for the moment, but I did want to at least try to curate some kind of audience? But more so just to share art and see others'. If anyone likes it, maybe follow and I'll be posting whenever I get around to it. I'm not totally sure how strict they still are abt NSFW stuff on, but either way I'm not drawing porn. My work will just sometimes be a little saucy and very gay, if that's your thing. That being said..

There was this art challenge on Twitter to redesign Sam Wilson's Captain America suit in the upcoming movie (which idgaf about tbh, everything surrounding that film is a mess), so I took a stab at it. All things considered, I wanted to do something very drastic with the look, so I thought why not eschew the colors of the American flag for those of the Black American Heritage flag?

With those colors in mind, I also wanted to incorporate some more overt aesthetics from Sam's Falcon costumes, particularly the slutiness that was lost with the tactical upgrade of his Cap suit in comics since, of course, everything in the MCU was always tactical.

And yeah, I couldn't help but still do a version with red, white and blue. I was curious how it'd look. Let me know what you think, whoever sees this. Lol

Soo I hope you're ready for this, because it's gonna be a doozy. I have so many emotions over this story, I cannot tell you. Thank you so much for writing Trouvaille, I feel like it's been something I've been missing all my life. From the very first chapter, you've been able to create a world where anything and everything is possible with our favourite boys. My heart cannot handle it. �� I do have a few questions though. Let's go by each member. 

For Joonie: how could you do this to me? This is my favourite depiction of Namjoon. Especially wolfie Namjoon. Everything is right, it just fits.  From the attitude, how he was trying to flex on everyone from the first day, to him loving sweets and being a complete bookworm, it's all so good. I can definitely see this version of Namjoon living in a trailer in the middle of a national park and being obsessed with Bigfoot lol. I also enjoyed how you were able to show how he can be uncomfortable with his emotions. After the incident, when he was trying to apologize to Y/N and he seemed lost and awkward, I really felt that. He's been a lone wolf for so long, it's really not surprising he may be a tad bit emotionally constipated. I definitely know the feeling lol. 

Taehyung: I can't. I cannot with this version of Tae. I love how he is, and his backstory. It's so interesting! How did you come up with it? I've read quite a few hybrid stories, and I can honestly say I've never read a backstory like his before. Poor Tae Bear. I just want to wrap him up in a blanket and cuddle him. He is too good for this world. I love how he was so quick to warm up to Y/N, it's so cute. How he came running when he heard her scream from her bathroom, and went all inspector mode to see if anyone was in there attempting any harm. Ahh.. my heart.

Seokjin: What a backstory for Jin. I was at the edge of my seat reading the last chapter. Why am I not surprised his previous owners would dump him at a shelter when they have no more use for him. He put his heart and soul into performing, and they just discarded him like he was nothing. I would definitely have a few choice words for them, I'd start throwing hands. >:(  The last chapter was amazing. How he felt safe enough to tell Y/N his backstory, his fears, and talk about Hannah. Please tell me we will get a chance to meet Hannah. Please tell me she didn't perish in the accident. Pretty please 

Yoongi: My favourite relationship in this story so far is between Y/N and Yoongi. From the very beginning, it's like they had an understanding. They definitely knew each other in another life, I love how you added that to the story! How he looks after her, doesn't mind cooking and even lets her get away with all that she does, she has him wrapped around her little finger. And he lets her!! Yes. Yes to everything.  I love how protective he is over her- I almost combusted reading the drabble for my boys - yes Yoongi, feel jealous and overprotective of your girl! He gave her the biggest cinnamon roll with the most icing... I squealed. Also, that scenting scene was hot. I hope they have more scenes together in the future.

Hoseok: Ahh Hobi.. the sunshine of the group. Yes to being a cheeky boy. It's like he's been on Y/N's side from the very beginning. He is the one that I've been wondering about the most in this story. Is he going to be able to get over his fear of wolves? Is he ever going to get Y/N to do yoga with him? Are we ever going to meet Keaon, and if so, will a certain foxy be jealous?  So many questions! Also, in the last chapter, when he was whistling his tune and she asked him about it, was that a sort of mating call? I tried looking it up, but I didn't get anywhere with it lol.

Jimin: Ahh Jiminie.. yes. His whole aesthetic - hair slicked back, jean wearing cowboy with the Clark Kent hairstyle. Yes. It's kind of embarrassing how many times I went back to read the chapter where everyone got their hair cut. Out of all the cuts, this one is top notch. I must admit, I did not expect Jimin's backstory in this. Are we going to find out more about why he left home? Does it have anything to do with his family? He has a sister, are we going to meet her as well? Will she like Y/N? So many questions!! 

Jeongguk: Last but cerainly not least, Kookie. My spooky gothic angel. I love his aesthetic in this as well. When you said you were going for a Constantine vibe with him.. I can assure you, you did it. Very very well lol. His attitude with the other guys and with Y/N has me feeling a certain type of way. Poor guy seems like he's been through quite a bit. But I like how he's had his troubles and tribulations with everyone, and he's slowly opening up. His birthday chapter was so cute, he seemed so distrusting of Y/N at the beginning, but he came through at the end. Can we get a drabble of the party as well? I'd love to see how he felt.  Anyways, this post is too long so this is the end of it lol. I cannot wait for October 7th. It cannot come fast enough. Thank you for all you do Dana!

I hope you don't mind a late response, I wanted to answer each of your questions to the best of my ability since you have sent me so much love. Thank you for loving and supporting Trouvaille so much, I'm so grateful and happy that I get to share the story and these boys with you! You're too kind, and I really appreciate you and your love! So I, too, will go member by member for you as well;

Joon: HEHE AHHH It makes me super happy and excited that you love this version of Joonie!! He is my main bias in BTS (I'm hyung line biased, I wonder if it's obvious...) But I loved giving him a little attitude and edge. I feel like it fits his Virgo energy, as well as going hand in hand with being a wolf hybrid. Still though, him being bookish and very into eating sweets are some qualities IRL Namjoon has, and I definitely wanted to keep some of their real personality traits in this story as well. I love Namjoon's past in Trouvaille, it will be revealed piece by piece as the story goes on since he's pretty private (and we'll see even more of it in the eventual release of his prequel!) Namjoon is based loosely off of Fox Mulder from the X-Files, so that's where the Bigfoot/cryptid/paranormal interest comes from. Namjoon has a "lone wolf" complex that we'll see him struggle with throughout the plot, so a lot of human emotions are difficult for him to process and express. I love the term you used-- "emotionally constipated" 💀, that's TOTALLY what he is... I doubt he has ever had to apologize to someone like that. It was definitely new to him!

Taehyung: Kodiak Tae is my baby, my boyfriend... He's a sweet boy!! I'm glad that you like his backstory and find it interesting. It was kind of a risk to incorporate something like a murder within a backstory of one of the boys, but I think that it's added some interest and mystery to his character-- he's not all rainbows and sunshine, he's got darker origins. Most of the boys I have based off of characters from my favorite books/films/shows. As for Tae, I based his backstory off of the TV show Twin Peaks, and a slew of characters from that show, primarily Josie Packard, Big Ed and Audrey Horne. There is a large part of that show that takes place in a logging plant (that's where Tae was working prior to his adoption), so that's where that part of his backstory came from. Other than that, I wanted him to have a sort of Seattle grunge rock vibe, and some skeletons in his closet to counteract his shy and sweet nature. He is such a love though, he really warmed up to Y/N and her personality. And that scene where he ran into the bathroom... he was checking for intruders, ready to beat them up if they dared to break into Y/N's bathroom!! 👹

Seokjin: I love a good dark circus aesthetic! I think that it fits Seokjin in Trouvaille well. He has that pretty face, athletic build, and such a stage presence. It is horrible that in the Trouvaille universe, many companies and people discard hybrids once deemed "damaged" or "useless". Seokjin likely put his all into performing, and was easily damaged-- no wonder he, too, is clingy like Tae. Y/N, like you, is ready to burn the whole circus down for him!!! I'm so happy you liked the last chapter and the focus on some of Seokjin's backstory. It was really fun to finally reveal some of his past to the readers. He definitely feels safe with Y/N, especially because she treats him so gently and doesn't have outrageous expectations for him. As for Hannah- we'll find out a little more about her in the next chapter, and in the future as well! She will definitely be touched upon again, so don't worry! 😉

Yoongi: I could cry!!! 🥺 Yoongi and Y/N's relationship is my favorite so far, as well. I love nothing more than Yoongi's gentle, doting, and selfless personality, and it totally reflects in his character in Trouvaille. The two of them have this almost unspoken connection, and it is very mysterious. I am such a fan of past-life lover stories, so I had to incorporate it at least a little bit in Trouvaille. I classify Yoongi as a househusband in this story, which is a dream of many. Whether Y/N knows it or not, she has Yoongi eating out of the palm of her hand (she's too enamored with him to notice). His love language seems to be acts of service. Anything he can do to make her life easier, he does-- and he definitely gets affection in return. Their piano lessons together... UGH! I'm so jealous, I want that relationship LOL. He is certainly one of the more possessive and jealous ones (Joon and Tae, too) but it's almost like he wants to steal her away for himself! He indulges her so much.. the cinnamon roll AH all she had to do was flirt with him a little! And his scenting scene was my FAVORITE too, so I'm happy you liked it as well. There is certainly more of that coming.

Hoseok: Hobi is just so! I love him so so much. Like Y/N, foxes are my favorite animal. I think the cleverness and quickness of a fox fits Hoseok's personality and vibe well. He is one of the hybrids more shrouded in mystery, and has a tough time opening up, perhaps because he had been waiting so long to be adopted and many of his previous adoptions had fell through. He and Y/N have like a bestie connection, and she feels totally at ease with him. Often, he's the one to break up tension, and he is most similar to Y/N, personality wise (extroverted, optimistic). Y/N is going to try her best to help him get over his wolf phobia, but he likely has a long road ahead of him to sort that out-- I don't see him becoming super chummy with Namjoon right away. Keon may make a comeback in the future, I'm excited that you remembered him! I think not only will Hoseok be jealous, but the rest of them as well... A hybrid from her past? Drama! The whistle: like the others, Hoseok is based off of a film character, his being Mr. Fox from Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox. In the film, Mr. Fox has a "signature" or "trademark" whistle/click noise he makes, and that is what Hoseok does.

Jimin: Hnnnnggg I adore blonde Jimin, it's one of his best looks. I have such a clear image in my mind of his really classic looking haircut (suitable for a cowboy, LOL) with the piece of hair in his face... woof. I loved the haircut chapter, it was self indulgent and gave me the opportunity to give them all my favorite looks on them LMAO. His backstory is one of the more "out there" ones, but it's different than the others and I hope you'll find it interesting when we hear more about it in the future! We'll find out why he wanted to leave home, especially when it seems like it is one of the more comfortable ways for a hybrid to live. I will say, it has more to do with Jimin's dreams and ambitions, rather than any quarrels with his family. There is a definite possibility that we'll meet his sister in the future, as well--Y/N will likely want to reunite them even for a few days, if she can. Y/N seems to be pretty happy go lucky and likable, so I'm sure Jimin's sister would approve, especially when she sees how much Y/N cares for her brother.

Jeongguk: The Constantine movie with Keanu Reeves has to be one of my favorite movies, like ever. I'm stoked that you think I've accomplished the aesthetic with Jeongguk! He happens to be one of the more self indulgent characters that I wrote into Trouvaille. I love a gothic sort of bad boy, and the paranormal investigator vibe fits him super well. Even IRL, Jeongguk has expressed interest in paranormal topics before, so I think it is true to him. He has quite an abrasive and temperamental personality in Trouvaille, which I think is refreshing for Jeongguk in fics. There is a reason for the way he acts and his prickliness, and when he feels like he can open up more and doesn't have to be so distrustful and defensive, he will. He is slowly becoming more comfortable in his environment, sharing it with the other hybrids, and with Y/N's presence, as well. I think he realizes now that she isn't there to betray him. His birthday was so so so fun to write, and allowed us to not only see a softer side of him, but get some of his backstory as well. I will jot down that drabble idea, I really think that would be a blast to write!

Rebranding isn’t a new thing at all but hyper specific digital language used to describe how you express yourself obviously is and this is a tired conversation at this point.

How is “I’m in my looksmaxxed bushwick kinderwhore era” a thing you could say and how did I get to a point in my life where i know exactly what that would mean. When you feel it’s time for your new era you could sift through pinterest rabbit holes and tiktok echochambers trying to find the perfect niche that describes the new and improved you. You’ll probably find a corner of the internet with other people just like you who like all the same esoteric celebrities you do, who listen to the same underground bands and who all talk the same cool way. But they are all doing it a little better than you.

Then you wake up from the digital coma you slipped into from stemming from unsupervised internet access at a young age, and you realize this is the dumbest shit in the world and ur actually and literally a full ass adult..

Step 1- The Transformational Event

This could be a breakup, a breakdown, a move, or just a general realization that challenges all ideas you previously had about yourself.

Step 1.5- Deep Emotional Pain

Step 2- Get Ur Ass up

Envision the you that has moved on and no longer feels held down by the emotional weight of the situation. How do they spend their free time? What passions are they pursuing ? what kind of people do they surround themselves with? lastly how do they dress how would they adorn their space? Work from the inside out.

Instead of looking up glass skin healed french girl aesthetic on pinterest you could journal about this version of you or even make a physical vision board.

Step 3- Faking it

Initially you might feel like you are not mentally stable or cool enough or whatever to be this person. But the person is you and the only way you can become them is to just start.

Step 4- God and Faeries take over

Spoiler alert: what i referred to as “faking it” in the last step is also called vibrating at a higher frequency. As I type this out I’m aware that i only maybe half believe it but also this has always worked for me my whole life so……

The circumstances in your life will basically rise to meet you where you are. you’ll start to realize you have the types of friends the new version of you would, you’ll develop the habits you wanted to and you’ll realize you have faked it till you made it.

Step 5- You are sexier and doing better than you ever imagined!

As time goes by and you think back to yourself immediately after the initial transformational event you’ll realize you have become even cooler and happier and more grown up than you hoped you’d be

If u did this right you’ll also feel a little bit of gratitude for the transformational experience because it basically provided a short cut for ur prefrontal cortex development.

Week 2: Tokyo & Osaka

After a packed first week, M & I parted ways so I could see friends and she could go do her own thing. The first day, it snowed!! Luckily I had bought a new rain coat earlier that day after a whipround through the shopping floors of Sunshine City :O

Activities:

Pokemon Cafe! We tried really hard to get a reservation for the two of us but in the end it was easier to just get a 1 person reservation, so it was back to Nihonbashi! This was meant to be a quiet day as well... lol. The Pokemon Cafe is really adorable, and of course themed down to every detail. The food was comparitively expensive (always is in these kind of places) but out of all the themed cafes I went to, was definitely the nicest tasting. The curry had a lot of substance and fun extras on the side!

Shibuya Sky - observation towers can be hit and miss but Shibuya Sky is definitely one of the best I've been to! Two floors of a huge observation deck looking over Tokyo. Me and a friend went at night which was definitely for the best - seeing Tokyo lit up from above was amazing.

Purikura - this used to be one of my favourite pasttimes when I lived in Japan. You go into a photo booth, take quick-fire posed photos with friends, and then go and digitally draw all over them/add stickers etc. The booths were also hit and miss but some were genuinely really cute. Now though.... they just make you look like aliens... :(

Osaka Castle Illuminations - illumination events are very popular in Japan during the Christmas/winter period so I really wanted to go to one, and Osaka Castle's didn't disappoint! Despite the cold weather it was a lot of fun to look around the many pop-up neon lights shaped to look like Japanese/Osakan landmarks/cultural items etc, all backed by the most cheesy playlist I have ever heard, it was glorious

Food:

Sushiro - a conveyor belt sushi chain, and also the only time I had sushi, since I don't eat seafood (with a couple of exceptions nowadays) and I knew that sushiro does a few things that aren't seafood, like the beef sushi. Which was.. fine. It was all fine. It definitely wasn't quality - you get what you pay for lol, but it was. yeah. fine.

Another bento lunch - the hanami dango became one of my favourite treats, I need to get the ingredients to make them over here since it's supposedly very simple to do!

Ippudo - a chain ramen restaurant - it was good ramen!

Kirby car - at Tokyo station there's a mini kirby cafe where you can buy the sweets to take away, so I had to get kirby car!!! Like a lot of Japanese sweets it looked better than it tasted but it was worth it for the Aesthetic either way. It was sponge (the lighter than air Japanese version) covered in strawberry blacmange.

Yakiniku - this was great, a proper yakiniku experience - sitting with friends in a smoky room and cooking our own cuts of meat. It was delicious and came with the added bonus of seeing friends I haven't seen in many years :D

• What story is he from? What kind of story is it (Fix it fic, Older!Eddie, Rockstar!Eddie etc)? This Eddie is from the One Night Stand Series aka my take on an enemies to lovers.

• What inspired you to write this Eddie? I got a request for a text conversation about telling Eddie your pregnant after a one night stand and then it just turned into a whole thing and I made it a series and it’s one of my favorites!

• What are your favorite headcanons about him/ share something you never shared in your story? He always wanted something more with the Reader since they met at the Hideout, he played it cool and did the whole “please tell me you’re not in love with me” thing because he didn’t want to get his feelings hurt so he just became this kinda “asshole” version of himself. My favorite headcanon about this Eddie (lowkey all my Eddie’s lol) is he will drop everything for Reader, 3am and she needs a ride? He’s there because who needs sleep. Noon and she just wants cheese fries? He’ll go get them for her and work can wait.

• What does he wear on a casual day? On a dressier day? What does he wear to bed? Casual day is jeans of really any sort a band shirt and either a flannel or his jacket that Reader has added patches to and his hair is down.

Dressier days like their first date he work black jeans with no holes, a solid black t shirt and a flannel because he knows Reader likes them on him and his hair was half up in a pony.

Sleepwear it now depends on what Reader wears because she uses him as a heat source and he has to be ready to go get Dorothy if she wakes up in the night so most of the time it’s just his boxers and other times it’s sweats and no shirt. When he lived with Wayne it was usually just his boxers. But his hair is always down because Reader informed him it’s not good for him to sleep with it in a bun.

• Favorite foods? Eddie isn’t picky he actually is the one who forces Reader to branch out and eat more things besides cheese fries but I’d say his favorite meal is spaghetti because it just reminds him of when he was little and Wayne would make it.

• Tell Us About His Family/Friends. His friends are the guys he works in the garage with as well as the usual culprits Robin and Steve. Steve has now somehow wiggled his way into the bff spot for the Reader so Eddie is seeing a lot more of him than he did before he and Reader got together.

His family is Wayne and now his daughter Dorothy and he’d also include Reader as well even though she refuses to marry him. Wayne has also stepped up and has become a father figure to Reader as well.

• Yeah Yeah, he's a Metalhead. Tell Us MORE About His Taste in Music in your story. Music isn’t mentioned a lot in this story but with the arrival of Dorothy he is now listening to a little bit more “kid friendly” stuff.

• What are his views on romance? On sex? Edward James Munson bless his heart he tries to be romantic but Reader is just too simple for it to work the way he wants. She is happy with cheese fries and a walk around Lover’s Lake. So now that he knows her more he enjoys surprising her with things she’s mentioned needing or wanting and of course he’s well aware food plays a huge part in making her happy so he’s always quick to pick up her fave junk food. He will even watch her favorite slasher flick even though he hates it.

Sex, now the first time Eddie and Reader got together it was rushed and in a moment of drunk passion so he wasn’t his best. But in the bedroom Eddie is a quick learner and figures out what Reader likes and doesn’t like, he’s all about making her happy. I also don’t really write sex scenes so haven’t given this much thought if I’m being totally honest.

• Is he optimistic or pessimistic? He is a realist who has an optimistic side.

• Where or with whom is he most comfortable? He is the most comfortable on the couch with Reader’s feet in his lap as he tells her all about his day and whose car he worked on. He’s most comfortable with Wayne and Reader, he can be his true self and knows they’ll have his back after they make fun of him just a little bit.

• What are his views of his future? What are his hopes/dreams? He is excited about his future, he has a little girl now and he wants to be the best dad he can be for her. His dream is to have his own garage and watch Dorothy grow up in the same small town he did and have Reader by his side for it all.

• What do you imagine his future looks like? (If your story is incomplete or if this would be a spoiler you're not willing to share, you can skip this question.) Eddie’s future is bright, he has his daughter and the love of his life. He has everything he could ever want and now he can focus on being a great dad and of course he’ll have to deal with the ups and downs of parenthood and being in a real long lasting relationship with Reader but they are happy.

• Anything else you'd like us to know about your Eddie/your story? Eddie in this story just wants what’s best for Reader and Dorothy and sometimes it can come across as controlling but it’s because he’s never been in this situation before and it’s a lot. He can seem like an asshole but he’s just scared to losing Reader and also losing Dorothy as well.

• Optional Vulnerable Question: Why do you write fics for Eddie Munson? Writing for my comfort characters or humans isn’t really new to me. I used to write for Niall Horan and Harry Styles during the One Direction days. I just wanted to create worlds where Eddie could be any version of himself I wanted and let’s be real, it’s just fun. I write all my Eddies in a way that fits the with of the type of dude I’d want to be around and I’m so glad others seem to like them as well!

A Theatrical Performance of An Intimate Moment

A/N: okay, so, this isn’t exactly fanfiction, lol. It’s simply me rambling on about my thoughts on atpoaim. I’ve been seduced by the series and I can’t help myself. I also just wanted to use it as a thinking exercise to reflect on where the band is at, what they’re currently doing artistically, etc. So, I totally understand if you decide to skip reading it. But I would love for this to be an opportunity for those who are interested to share their thoughts as well. It’s basically a bunch of questions I’m wondering about! So come talk to me about it if you’d like cuz I’m a nerd for this kind of thing!

Warnings: hella pretentious. I’m a PhD student in English Literature. Pretentious is my middle name.

The Title: the series title presents us with our first paradox. How can something intimate become theatrical, let alone a performance? Intimacy usually implies authenticity, genuineness, connection. Whereas theatricality is often associated with artifice and drama. The 1975 attempt to bring the two together, but is that even possible? Also, how is labeling this series as a “theatrical performance of an intimate moment,” change our perception of it? Like, is it different from watching a vlog? If Matty had announced this as a “behind the scenes document-series” or a “day in my life” we wouldn’t have the same level of distance and suspicion of what we are seeing on screen as we do now. What’s the purpose of creating that kind of experience for the audience?

The cinematography: the way that it’s filmed does two primary things for me: first, it emphasizes artificiality, I.e. constantly reminds us that this is a curated piece of media, edited in such a way that presents us with only PART of the truth (which, again, creates tension with this idea of ‘intimacy’). Through the black-and-white aesthetic that it’s referencing and using, through the humor, through the way that it’s cut and edited. So, what’s it saying to us? That Matty has to perform a certain version of himself to the cameras? If so, why do it at all? What is this series trying to accomplish?

The Performance: while I think that Matty is, here, building on the themes of BFIAFL, he seems to also be interested in exploring larger questions about art/ identity. We could see this as an extension of the mission of ATVB. His onstage persona shares some similar characteristics with the atpoaim series. He’s exaggerating, performing, pretending to be a version of himself to critique certain aspects of culture, consumption, our relationship with art and entertainment. It’s one thing to do so onstage as part of the gig because it offers us a “frame” to view the music/ concert experience. It’s another thing entirely to extend this into his personal life. What’s he saying about identity? That when get so used to performing a version of yourself to the world, it gets so stuck with you that you can’t quite shake it off even when you are alone? That he is constantly trying to mediate between his “real” self and a version of himself that he strives to be? And, of course, the age-old question: if he’s performing all the damn time, doesn’t that performance, at some point, BECOME the real him?

The Time Line: just a quick note that, in typical post-modernist fashion, the series is non-linear in terms of time. It seemed like the first episode was pre-SNL. And it dropped right before SNL so it made sense. Created this illusion of immediacy. We’re seeing things “in real time” if you will. BUT episode two was kind of vague. We see him watching SNL at on screen, so clearly it’s supposed to be AFTER, right? Except that mirror scene might suggest otherwise. He’s practicing “thinkin’ this through” so it might be that he’s preparing to do SNL? Or it could be a clip from episode 1’s mirror scene that is inserted into episode 2. Meaning, it actually happened BEFORE we got to see it. Of course, he’s picking up on the fan jokes that he said “finkin this frue” on SNL, so he’s reacting to something that happened AFTER. Also, as this anon has pointed out, it’s in the context of wiping the mirror, and perhaps suggesting that he’s perfecting an exterior version of himself/ working out flaws.

The Episodes: the first one seems to be primarily about establishing expectations with the audience while the second one is about undermining/ ruining those expectations. Ep 1 gives us the sense that we are getting a glimpse of what Matty is ‘really like’ behind the scenes as he goes about doing mundane things that we all do in life. We might not all be stopped on the street for selfies, but we all have to perform a certain version of ourselves for the world. Ep. 2 on the other hand, highlights the difference between performance and reality when Matty gets caught up in the celebrity status and does ridiculous things such as hide in a suitcase, etc. the definition of “taking the piss” lmao. Also, I couldn’t help but note the ending of episode 2 where Matty meets with an artist who does the same thing but to a ridiculous extent. They have that debate about “what’s more important? Art or people?” Matty seems to come down firmly on the side of people. Is this his ethos, so to speak? Is this a reaction to the way he’s publicly perceived and criticized? Is this him saying that art has limits? If so, what do these limits mean to him as an artist? And how does the fact that this conversation is, in itself, happening INSIDE a piece of art affect its meaning. Like, is that also a performance? Is the conversation about art also art? What’s he trying to say?
