It is as if, on some level, Margaret grasps that she is a character in a novel, bound by its specific laws and customs (the requirements of the marriage plot, the classic romantic archetypes, the flattening effect of Rooney’s prose), and all these strike her as an alien imposition on her very being. Love, in this sense, is the lover’s name for the desire not to be fictional: It is a tunnel out of the novel that, being part of a novel, is always bound to collapse. Even the casual reader of Pride and Prejudice, for instance, knows that Elizabeth will fail to escape her circumstances, that she will get married precisely because she says she will not, and that she will fall in love with Darcy precisely because he is the “last man” she would ever choose. In accepting his proposal, she merely superimposes her vibrant inner life onto the dead world of convention, acting out of pure feeling while, as if by happy accident, making the most advantageous match in the entire book. This, I think, is what Lukács means when he writes that the novel’s characters are “compelled by irony.” In attempting to assert their freedom, they come face-to-face with their existence as characters; the senseless mass of conventions that looms overhead is ultimately the novel itself. It is no accident that Pride and Prejudice, however groundbreaking in its day, is now the comp of all comps in the romance industry, which is hell-bent on supplying readers with an abundance of mass-produced and utterly fungible Darcies.

In becoming “normal,” Marianne has been forced to give up the illusion of having transcended the tropes and archetypes that have, in truth, been quietly sustaining her all along — in a word, her literariness. The literary novel is, as it were, the missionary position of literature: In order to pass itself off as a representation of “real life,” it must deny the inherent conventionality common to all novels, whether “literary” or not. Compare genre fiction, where the same conventions may be used as selling points in marketing campaigns and openly consumed by fans.
i still think a lot about how technically, it's implied Anubis and Walt started dating each other before they asked out Sadie, and if Sadie had said she wasn't interested they would have gone "Entirely fair have a nice day" and proceed to just go continue to date each other.
Cause like, that was the entire thing. They decided that themselves. That things would work best if they were together (as in both physically sharing a body and also relationship-wise). The "asking Sadie about it" part was secondary. If she had said no, they would have stayed together, because among other things Walt would kind of die if they didn't. Walt and Anubis are technically the first gay couple in the Riordanverse. AND they're in a polyamorous relationship with Sadie. Why does no one talk about them ever.
and that’s the thing like tommy didn’t end things with buck because buck wasn’t out. he ended things with buck to give him the space and opportunity to get comfortable with the idea of dating a man without the added pressure of having to think about and worry about how tommy felt. he didn’t want buck to have to rush out of the closet he wanted to give him a chance to truly think about how his life will shift if/when he starts a queer romantic relationship.
Bungou Stray Dogs: Dead Apple and how “ability users” (opposite to “normal people”) learning to accept themselves through the acceptance of their own abilities is a queer metaphor of acceptance of own's sexual orientation and gender: an essay by me

If you like to talk a lot he’s a very good listener, humming along and adding a comment when needed, and even if your not one for talking he likes the sound of your voice. It ensures him that you’re here with him, and not in any danger
If your not as advert to talking he’ll probably try to pry it out of you-you’re his partner, he wants to know your interests, values, viewpoints, dislikes, opinions, whatever it is he wants to know more about you. And in return, you’ll probably get to learn a little about him too
Always goes to games with you. He’s comfortable in the controlled environment of games and their straightforward rules, when you go with him there’s no chance of you dying. It’s just the easiest way to protect you, and one of his special ways of showing care
His affection is subtle, but it’s certainly there. Physically it might just be standing a little closer to you, or the occasional brush of shoulders. Mentally, though it’s seeking you out, taking your opinion into account, trying to encourage you when you’re down, letting you know about his past, making sure you eat before him, getting to be vulnerable with his words and telling you how much he truly cares <3
While he’s probably not one for pda, but I can definitely see him running a kiss along your knuckles when you’re panicking about a game, to remind you he’s there. A gentle hand your back when you’re falling behind the group and a rare smile that you reciprocate
He’s cool not cold, and won’t deny being with you, but won’t go out of his way to be flashy or flaunt your relationship
As a doctor if you ever get hurt he’ll 100% patch you up, though his hands shake at thought of his what could happen to you, he’ll blame it on not having done this in a long time, and make you forget with that suave smile
overall a very weird dw season to me. i really like the middle 4 episodes, and thought the first 2 and last 2 were okay-to-bad. for only 8 episodes 50/50 isn't a bad track record but i think the season arc and character drama doesn't land so the season is less than the sum of its parts. much better than chibnall era, still not on the level of s1-10 dw and probably my least favourite rtd series. and yet i have hope!! bring on season 2 i want to see varada sethu
