when jane's powers return in season four (and because they were regained by her confronting and accepting her past, rather than being retraumatised with it!) they're stronger than they ever were. when she starts getting a handle back on them, she very quickly comes to realise not only have they affected her, but her mother, too. one of the biggest losses that came about with her losing them was the fact that she could no longer visit terry in the void; while there was no real communication there, it did allow jane to sit with her, and gain a little more connection than she could in the real world. when she first visits the void after their return, it takes her three hours to find terry, something that is both unexpected and incredibly worrying. but when she does, it's something of a miracle. jane's increased strength and control over the void actually wakes terry up from her catatonic state, but only in the void. there's no way to help her mother physically, but she does do so (unbeknownst to her) mentally. terry is reborn in jane's newfound control over the vale of shadows; she becomes the woman she once was, and while her body remains frozen in a "good dream", her mind connected to jane's own allows her some freedom. jane is able to speak to her mother in the void, is able to be held by her, and while it's still unfair and jane cannot stay in there forever, it's something. this only lasts for about eight months, as each visit slowly begins deteriorating terry's physical and mental state, and jane's health begins declining after spending hours upon hours in the void each and every day.

when jane finds out these visits are actually killing her mother on the outside, she deems to stop, but terry expresses the importance of them being able to speak, that she'd prefer to die on the outside, if it meant she could have just a few months with her daughter like this. terry and jane's connection was always so strong, which ultimately led to terry "waking up" in the void, but even jane's newfound strength cannot save her from the harsh realities. each visit nearing the end of those eight months, terry fades more and more, becomes weaker in the void, and her real body eventually gives up. jane's in the void when her mother eventually passes on, and physically feels their connection weaken, like some part of her suddenly becomes lost in the shadows, a part she'll never find again. jane falls into a depressive state for weeks after her mother's death, given she's technically lost her a second time, but soon comes to realise she was lucky to have even shared those eight months together. it was better than nothing at all. there is a proper burial and funeral, (and when jane dies, she's buried next to her mother) which allows jane some sense of closure. she never fully recovers from losing terry, nor from the fact that she never had a proper relationship with her, but she does eventually find some peace with it all.

After everything that's happened in the span of like a day, it was terrifying to think that she had genuinely been left wondering if she'd ever feel the sun bathe on her skin again.

And to think back on that doubt now that she can feel her skin under the lukewarm sunlight of a barely rising sun, the still soft oranges reflecting her eyes...

Cassie wanted to let out a sob; she made it. But instead she just stood there, basking in the moment, processing that yes; despite everything, she had just escaped the hell now located right behind her. She stood and stared out at the open sky, still dark and with a few stars out, the oranges of the incoming morning peeking into the horizon, shining a soft warm light over the decrepit building that once used to be like her second home, the Mega PizzaPlex.

But she didn't claw her way out alone. She's not the only one who got to see the sky and feel the first morning rays embrace their forms. On her way back, she did her hardest to make up to every other abandoned heart, finding a few more clues along the way, too, painting a picture that only heightened her thoughts. And together they stood tall. Like since when she was little. Like it should always have been. Before those two ever showed up to ruin everything.

Roxanne had one eye at least, donated by Chica who was happy to have her voice back, Monty had been rescued from the water and rebooted (Cassie had never intended to electrocute him,) the Daycare Attendant was happy to help especially after having been helped, and the Freddy Prototype even had his head back-- which certainly must have been no easy task for Cassie to find! ... and a handful of the Mini Music Men, they were there too, yeah. Gremlins. Cassie absolutely refused to leave anybody behind (she's not like Gregory.)

And that also includes the one and only, Glamrock Bonnie. Long thought to be gone. The rabbit was arguably in the worst condition of them all, being totally unresponsive, having to be carried by the others. It was even questionable if there was any hope for him, but again, Cassie refused to leave anybody behind.

They all were what's left of her family, and she'll do what's necessary to take care of them, like they have taken care of her helping her escape a terrible fate.

It's been like what, a couple weeks? A month or two? Cassie took all the robots under her wing, sheltering them in her old home... Turns out her Dad had been up to some stuff since her mother's shady death.

There was an entire bunker underground duplicating the house, and she took it over, living in secrecy, safe and sound with her family.

The past while has been spent trying to repair them, fortunately there were a few things her Dad had left behind that wound up useful; she managed to give Chica an endo arm as she was missing one, and while Monty hasn't gotten his legs yet they managed to reconstruct his lower torso- meaning legs were the next step, but at least he could sit more properly again. The Prototype Freddy had a lot of debris and other metal junk stabbing into his body, and Cassie arduously plucked them out herself with tools left by her Dad. Cassie herself was getting better-- she still occasionally got dizzy spells, would wince when stepping on her foot wrong shooting pain up her shin, and would feel her arm get sore from time to time; one couldn't expect her to come out unscathed from an attempted murder via an elevator drop.

It was slow, but they were coming back together. They were going to.

Aside from that, they needed parts, which was where things began getting a little more complicated. Her Dad's secret workshop was full of useful things, but not everything necessary for full repairs... but that was when something new came to light.

Cassie still had that creepy Security Mask, though had long left the V.A.N.N.I. Network which had no coverage outside the PizzaPlex. Still, looks like the mask has a few distinct functions without the network. The past while has been spent getting used to these features as well, even proving to be useful in detecting parts compatible for repairing her peers!

But that's not all.

The mask seemed to function like a detector of Fazbear Entertainment technology through places, from electronic toys to accessories to equipment and even animatronics. A little more testing with such features and the possibility of even hacking into these objects was very palpable. But Cassie of course wasn't interested in wasting time doing malicious cyber-activities, just what was necessary to help her and her family.

Though after enough time, she found something... familiar. Her lost remaining family member. One who still needs rescuing... probably the most out of them all.

She doesn't immediately dive into it, trying to be safe, spending some time verifying if she was correct.

Eventually, a day where the sun had just set, Cassie puts on the mask, trying to set up a remote communication. With it on, she can see Helpi sitting on the edge of the work table where Bonnie has been laying, like a patient in intensive care-- no doubt the little bear will be an 'audience' of sorts.

Cassie first tries verifying the stability of the connection, managing to access optical and auditory reception of the 'stray' animatronic she's trying to reach, able to see and hear his surroundings-- she doesn't think she recognizes the area, but at least nobody seems to be immediately present with him; good. Before the access can raise alarm in his system, she throws her two cents.

" H... hello...? Can you... hear me...? "

She gingerly asks, almost fearful of what this communication might reward with, but also unimaginable anticipation. It was like she was speaking right into his head. She spares a look over at Helpi to give her the courage to continue.

" Is... is that really you... Glamrock Freddy...? "

curse of having a popular post turning around tumblr is to suddenly recognize a Big Name Tumblr with a very Infamous history in your activity and having to stare into oblivion for a huge moment.

How to spot a scam blog

A very simple guide to figuring out if the blog messaging you is a scam:

Was you sent an ask within some time of sharing a specific type of post such as a trending topic or subject? - Usually scam accounts target particular posts and will spam asks to everyone who shared it. The ask may relate to certain events going on or more. These asks are always sent to many users all at once so it’s suggested to tumblr search part of the ask and see if its been sent by other accounts labeled as a scam or accounts with similar style.

Is the account relatively new? - More often than not, the accounts sending the asks are about a week old or even newer. They haven’t been made too long ago and often send asks within hours of being made. If you have timestamps turned on, you’ll be able to see the date something was posted. A fresher account is usually not going to be one who’s finding you unless they are searching tags and saw your blog.

How many posts are on the account? - Scam accounts rarely have many posts on their blogs beyond the initial pinned post. All their posts, being very few are very little, are most often just posts from a trending topic they looked up or a popular tag they decided to look through. They will share only a few and then make no further posts. This is to pad out their blog to make it look used but it’s easy to see how new the blog is if you scroll to the end.

Are the shared posts fitting a theme? - Scam accounts try to share posts based on the scam they’re trying to run. This means they’ll share posts related to the topic of their choosing and then stop once they’ve shared a few. Most of these posts come from the OP themselves and not from someone the blog is following though in rare cases they’ll find a person to reblog from so they don’t look suspicious.

Are the reblog dates accurate? - If you use timestamps, find a post the blog shared and check ‘Other notes’ and see if the reblog date matches the date that is listed on the blog itself. Often, scammers will backdate posts to make them look much older then they really are in an attempt to deceive people into thinking they’ve used tumblr for months or years.

Is the url auto-generated? - Not always seen from a scam account, but scammers often just use auto-generated usernames because it’s quick and easy to do. But real accounts may have these too. It’s just a thing to keep in mind.

Is the url familiar or similar to one you’ve seen before? - Scammers often try to copy their older accounts by using usernames based around previous scam attempts. It becomes obvious after about a while and usually makes it easy to figure out the scammer is back again. This isn’t always from scam accounts as regular accounts may do this for reasons.

How often do you get asks? - If you barely get asks and suddenly keep getting mutual aid asks it’s very likely you’re just a scammers latest target and they’ll keep spamming asks. This means you’ll consistently get the same style of asks from a brand new account that shouldn’t know you unless they found you in tags. You will keep getting these asks on a daily basis. You will eventually always get these asks.

Did they request you to message them directly? - On rare occasions a scam account will want you to send them a direct message and then they’ll just ask you for thousands of dollars on the spot.

Does your bio say no mutual aid asks? - Scammers don’t read/don’t care they will ignore that and send you asks anyway that won’t stop them.

Short version: More often than not the blog asking you for money is a scam if you don’t usually get asks for money from brand new accounts.

How to Get a Chronological Dash as a New Blog

I've been working on a Tumblr Roleplaying 101 guide, and in doing so wound up making a brand new Tumblr account for some screenshots. And this process made me realize how weirdly complicated Tumblr has made it for new accounts to get a chronological dash. So if you just want to see posts from people you follow, in the order that they made them, this what you have to do.

First, go to your settings, go under Dashboard, and scroll down to Preferences. Toggle off Best Stuff First. This switches your dash from an algorithm feed to a chronological one.

If you have an older blog, that's all you have to do. But if your blog was created more recently, you have an extra step.

The Tumblr dashboard has different tabs, which you can see across the top of your feed. Most older users have completed tuned these out, because we don't care about anything other than the basic feed. There is a Following tab, which shows posts from users you follow, and a For you tab, which shows recommend posts Tumblr thinks you'll like.

On blogs created before May 8, 2023, the Following tab is the default view. However, blogs created after this date have the For you tab as the default view. (This is an intentional change by Tumblr.)

This means if you are a newer blog and want to see posts from people you follow, you'll need to manually switch to the Following tab every time you open the dashboard.

If you do not like this change, consider contacting Tumblr staff. Submit a form under the Feedback category and explain that you'd like the option to make the Following tab the default for new blogs. And please, be polite! There is a person on the other side of the screen who likely had no say in this change, and even if they did, they don't deserve to be yelled at.

Some tips on how to spot a blog that’s trying to scam you by pretending to be in Palestine:

Check the date of the pinned post if they have one. It likely is only a few hours old at best or a few days old.

Check how many posts the account has and if they’re all just reblogs of a trending post or popular post. Usually scammers reblog just a few then nothing else. Their only original post is the pinned one and maybe a few asks they answered.

Search the contents of their pinned post/aid post and see if it comes up on a real fundraiser site. Scammers tend to steal their info off of real people and real fundraisers hoping no one will notice. They’ll claim their fundraiser is pending but they don’t run or own anything they’re taking from. Some will even steal names to impersonate people.

You’ll only get these asks if you actively post about Palestine or share Palestine related posts. These accounts will often share the same posts then contact you via asks asking you to share their post. They will continue asking even if you tell them you don’t have money. They won’t read your blog so even having a ‘don’t sent donation asks’ in the bio or pinned won’t stop them. They just want you to share their post and won’t take no for an answer.

Often times you’ll get the same ask from entirely different accounts or the ask is tweaked by using parts of another ask. But the post itself will always be the same as the previous account before it was removed for being a scam. These scammers reuse the same exact ask so often searching the ask will pull up past accounts who sent it.

The pfp and images are often stolen from the real fundraiser that the scammers have copied. When you call them out on it, they’ll usually send you hate mail instead of explaining anything. And then block you only to send you the same mutual aid ask from another blog because they think you won’t notice.

If you answer these asks, and know it’s a scam, call out the scammer and link to legitimate fundraisers or useful links to verified charities. This way the scammers ask will be seen if searched and people who see it will find sources for supporting actual people.

Not all mutual aid posts for Palestine is a scam. It’s just suggested to do some research into a brand new account asking you for money. Please support verified charities and fundraisers made by people who have confirmed their legitimacy in some way or have proved they are the person that it was made for. It’s unfortunate these scams are happening, but they do exist.

A message to Twitter users coming to tumblr: a message from your local duel-hellsite citizen

So, I’ve seen a ton of Twitter users talking about making and sharing their new tumblr blogs, to escape Elon Musk’s “anti censorship” bullshittery. First of all: welcome! I know it’s looking bleak over there; especially for trans people. But, now that you’re here, I’m here to tell you all about tumblr etiquette, how this website works, and how it’s different from Twitter. Because you can’t come onto here acting like it’s Twitter, lest The Beast get to you.

First, here are a small handful of tips and tumblr facts!

Your likes and who you are following are automatically set to public. You can make them private in your settings!

You can block tags from the settings, too.

There are lots of bots on here. If you’re not careful, you could be mistaken for one! The main way you can avoid this is changing your icon and header from the defaults. Adding a bio helps too!

You can queue and schedule posts so that your account posts throughout the day.

Like Twitter, tumblr has a radical feminist and TERF problem. However, they’re pretty easy to spot. There are lots of guides out there to help you learn how to spot tumblr TERFs!

Tumblr, for the most part, does not have any celebrity or brand accounts.

Your tumblr follower count is private.

You can have multiple accounts with the same email, and they’re very easy to switch between! These are called “sideblogs”.

Your main page is not a “timeline”. It is a “dashboard”!

You can have a custom desktop theme using HTML! Think like ye olde MySpace days. There are tons of pre-made tumblr themes available, if you’re not already proficient in HTML; including free ones!

Now, let’s talk tumblr etiquette and how it’s different from Twitter. You’re a tumblr user now! It’s time to start acting like it!

Don’t just like posts. They don’t increase visibility whatsoever. The way that you can help posts that you like is reblogging them to your blog. Especially for art!

We don’t say “oomfs” or “oomfies”. Just “mutuals” is fine, thanks!

Adding onto a post with pointless comments is frowned upon. If all you have to say is “this is so true,” or something else to that effect, you should put that in the tags of your reblog.

Most people don’t have carrds or rentries on here. Some of us do, but it’s not an obligation like it is for Twitter.

Similarly, we don’t censor words like “die” and “death”. Posts about wanting to brutally murder people in power go viral all the time, and it’s completely allowed. I’m serious! Enjoy your newfound freedom!

Blocking isn’t a big deal here. Get rid of any weird notion you have that morality is linked to blocking certain people.

But lastly, and most importantly:

Drop your discourse at the door.

If you try to post about most of the things that Twitter users discourse about, you will be laughed off the site. Especially Twitter LGBT+ discourse. Posts actively mocking topics of Twitter discourse go viral on here regularly.

Tumblr has mostly healed since its discourse-ridden days, and it’s now much more chill. Of course, discourse still happens, but it is so easy to avoid now. For a lot of us, tumblr is the last pleasant social media site left, so don’t ruin it.

Here is a list of discourse-related things that tumblr users don’t do:

Most of us don’t do callout posts, unless it’s something actually serious (like that one blog that had a human slave).

Everything that you heard on Twitter was “exclusive” to certain LGBT+ groups is used by just about everyone on here. Bi women use the double venus symbol on here. You’ll just have to learn to live with that.

In particular, I want to emphasize how much we don’t do flag discourse. To the point that somebody caring about flag discourse of any kind is how we tend to identify an ex-Twitter user.

On here, you will never have to see another slur discourse post again, unless you actively seek it out.
