I’ve never been a fan of relationships that were “meant to be.”

At worst, it feels lazy. The narrative tells us two people were made for each other, then fails to put in the work to make us believe it. Or else it strips the characters of autonomy. It makes it seem like there was only one way to live, only one way to be. It feels… constricting. Limiting. To take away the decisions the characters could have made, the countless diverging paths they could have gone down, and say they would have always been together, because it was dictated by fate.

But then Arcane gave us Jayce and Viktor. Two souls, cosmically intertwined and bound. In every reality, every timeline. Meant to be, but not because of fate.

Meant to be because in every timeline, they craved knowledge. Meant to be because in every timeline, they shared the same dream - a dream of light. Of progress and learning and beauty beyond the world of chaos and cruelty and prejudice and pain that they were thrust into, alone. Meant to be because they worked at it, desperately. Because they spent years of hectic days and sleepless nights, trying to decode the secrets of the arcane. Because they did all this together.

Jayce and Viktor, ripping the strings of fate from reality itself to bind themselves together. Meant to be, but not because of the universe, or some unknown power, or the focus of the narrative on one single form of happiness, one single type of love.

Meant to be because they worked and suffered and endured, together, for each other. For their shared dream. Because even after it all fell apart, their bond persisted. Because at the end of the world, they forgave each other, and knowing how it would end… they chose to try again. (And again, and again, and again.)

Meant to be because they chose each other, and always have, and always will.

Meant to be.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this AU. Obviously this art is beautiful, and I’m obsessed, but I think it also takes the story down to it’s base characterizations in such an amazing way.

Like, Adrien with the Fox miraculous? You mean the boy who constantly puts on a front because he’s never allowed to be who he truly wishes he could be? The same boy who, upon being given the black cat miraculous in canon, gave into an entirely different persona just because he actually COULD? The boy who, despite all his effort and desire to be what others want him to be, always has a genuine smile or laugh to offer as soon as someone pushes through his flimsy illusion?

Marinette with the mouse? The same Marinette who feels as if she is so much more than others define her as? Not just a girl, but a friend, a daughter, a classmate, a superhero, an artist, a lover, a designer, a dreamer, a baker, and anything else she wishes to be? The girl who, in canon, constantly wants to be seen for her accomplishments and for all that she is, but is often downgraded by those around her into one role.

I also think it fits their dynamic so well. I imagine that as a superhero team they work much the same way they always do, with Adrien distracting the villain, and then fighting straight on when that fails, all to protect his partner, not just because she has a plan but because he cares for her. He would protect her with his body, his heart, and his soul, for the good of all those around him, for those he cares about. And Marinette, often forced into the background not because she lacks strength but because her mind, her determination, and her precision are the only things that will make the plan work. She is pulled in a million different directions, but it has to work, because she has to save Paris, and more than that she has to protect her partner.

She will not let him fade away into the illusions he tries to hide behind,

And he will always be there to support her in every aspect.

I don't think that Viktor swears often but I really like that people sometimes write him swearing in Czech. Also I think that it was a little traumatic for Jayce when he heard Viktor swear for the first time.

I just had to draw it.

The thing is that czech swearing often contains more than one word. The bigger fuked up, the longer you swear. And it's…let's say…very rich xd
