Okay, I know I've been talking about 'The L in LREF Stands for Leo' a lot lately. But I have a fairly important question.
If you haven't read The L in LREF Stands for Leo, it's pretty much what it sounds like. Leo joins the Elite Force instead of Bree. A few other details are that Mr Terror hasn't been caught, I'll be trying to make Oliver less creepy, as well as keeping other characters at least a little more in character.
I already have the excuse figured out, so don't go off of like... potential plot-holes, just go off of 'do I want this.' If you're worried about Marliver, like you don't want Marliver, I'll post another poll later, depending on the results on this.

the violence in bottoms (2023) is so satisfying in a way i don't really know how to put into words. somewhere between the violence against women that movies sometimes shy away from too much but also Lean Into a little too much (spectrum of either not depicting realistic violence/harassment due to discomfort with it or the "you can't hit her she's a girl!" concept vs gratuitous sensationalized violence). like it's that "boys will be boys" kind of roughhousing that girls are excluded from if the narrative frames them as too delicate / feminine / untouchable. and i see them beating the shit out of each other and it feels Good. they're not untouchable dolls nor are they objects to project malice and gratuitous violence onto! it's not even fully about the empowerment or seeing girls be able to fight back (which does feel amazing in its own right and the movie does a great job of delivering it) like even seeing like, idk black widow beat up a bunch of guys in a marvel movie doesn't feel the same as how bottoms does it. it feels unpolished and grounded and realistic and satisfying. #girlswillbegirls

I do think there's something special about the way that audio drama creators seem to love including cameos of voice actors from other popular audio dramas. Obviously, part of the reason why actors from one show might pop up in another is because the audio drama creator community is relatively small and interconnected, and also because those actors are very talented.
But there's also often such a sense that creators are having fun with these cameos. Like Greater Boston casting audio drama heavyweights Briggon Snow, Zach Valenti, and Felix Trench as famous film actors Matt Daemon, Ben Affleck, and Mark Wahlberg respectively. Or Faux and Stallion having Tom Crowley (who plays a Victorian detective in Victoriocity) pop up as Dr Watson. Or Unseen casting Beth Eyre and Felix Trench as characters who are twins. Or Arden getting Emma Sherr-Ziarko to play an actor impersonating a character played by her former Wolf 359 costar Michelle Agresti (with Michaela Swee also appearing as an actor impersonating the other main Arden lead).
In these cases, it's not just that there's a cameo, but that the cameo is given particular (often comedic) significance to those who are aware of the featured actor's other work. The vast majority of people wouldn't recognise any of these voices. But by doing these very intentional cameos, these creators show confidence that a fair chunk of their audience will know these actors and enjoy the link. There's an awareness that listeners of one audio drama are fairly likely to listen to (or at least be aware of) other fiction podcasts, even when the shows in question aren't of particularly similar genres. Recognising these cameos feels like being in on a secret. It feels like these shows are giving a little nod to listeners to say that we're part of the same club.

So I was talking to my buddies about all the “magical girl show but the main character is a tired adult who has to do taxes” jokes and my conclusion is that while this gag was funny at first, it’s gotten old real fast and I feel like people who meme about this too much fundamentally misunderstand the magical girl genre
Like, did we just forget Sailor Moon and Precure (two big standouts of the genre) had their main leads juggle stuff like, their studies, clubs, high school drama, and random NPC side quests alongside beating up the bad guys? On a near daily basis? Those girls probably have ten times as much work experience than your average college grad
All this jesting to say I think people continue to boil such a diverse genre down to just “haha cute girl with magical powers beats up monsters with the power of friendship,” which leads to a very many people having some strange obsession with seeing overly saccharine shows meant for preteen girls and going “what if this but EDGY and REALISTIC” without actually understanding that these shows were meant to relate to (and dare I say empower) young girls learning how life actually works

sometimes I remember the fact that at the ripe age of 9, I felt ashamed for watching and loving Lego Ninjago, bc I felt like I was "too old" for the show, and it was targeted for a "younger audience". (this went for most of my in general) and how Older Me would look back and cringe at the fact I enjoyed these "children shows/ things".
And now, as an Adult, I see how absolutely ridiculous that sentiment was. And to this day I still enjoy "children shows/ things" (LMK, TOH, mythology, dinosaurs, etc.,).
Like no- now all i want to do is look back and whisper "you will still enjoy these things in the future, and you will even create so much art of the things you find interesting. You will go to college for some of these things. Enjoying harmless things isn't childish."

Hey you! yeah you stop! don't type another word! listen - listen I know what you're trying to do. you think you're being helpful by going on someones post and telling them to look at a specific media that has the basic similarity to what their post is asking for. But I'm going to tell you a secret, okay? They probably already know it. People have probably already told them about it. they probably have checked it out. because when you have such limited options it's kind of impossible not to hear about these things...and guess what...guess what - they might not of even liked it. Because if someone is asking for representation they likely want it in a story that they'll enjoy. yeah, not everyone wants to read YA drama/romance books just for the representation, crazy i know. Yeah some of us actually want well written stories about things we actually care about. some of us want characters to be like us while they fight dragons or something.
so stop typing that message about how OP should totally check out X media. maybe, if you really wanna recommend something, maybe just ASK OP is they are looking for suggestions and what kind of stories they like so you know if that's even what they're looking for. trust me, they'll appreciate your input a lot more if you just ask.

insane 2 me that eiyuu senki has a translation b4 fate/stay night does
#it's literally EXACTLY what most ppl think fsn is....#plot-light eroge with a 'historical figures (+ knights of the round table) but they're cute anime girls' gimmick#tbf though i've said it b4 and i'll say it again. i am the exact target audience for what ppl Think fsn is from the outside#and one of these days (read: after i get a pc and play through a million other (better) games i have on my list) i'll def play it#if only to analyze it as an arthurian adaptation bc going through conceptually inch resting arthurian adaptations is my hobby#(and when i say that i mean there is a Reason the term 'girlboss arthuriana' was coined (i should know. i coined it.) and the genre is#Oversaturated. i don't want to read another young/new adult novel about an arthurian woman by some1 who Clearly was seized w the need 2 be#mzb 2..... the sequel!. heard the most baseline description of this random lady. and ran w it!#i already know every single plot beat and every single cliche and major arthurian misunderstanding they'll run straight into#and it'd be redundant to point them out or analyze how or why they made certain decisions so i. don't read them anymore!#i refuse to touch anything girlboss arthuriana or openly derived from th white/game of thrones. i will have a much more enjoyable time#trying to figure out how arthurian gacha number 42069 or self published novel abt a minor character you'd have to read med lit#(or at least more than 1 wiki page) to even know or obscure 70s narrative song than touch a single nyt bestseller wannabe)#(*when i say arthurian gacha i don't just mean fgo it's just the most famous example. king arthur is a v popular gacha character and#i've yet to figure out why)#also eiyuu senki has palomydes AND didn't whitewash her so like. !!!!! . i am predisposed to like it more than other adaptations#(<<< has a fave knight of the round table (and it's by a Lot))#+ i'm generally weak 2 knight girls. you should know this abt me already. and percival has a nice 1/4 scale figure so like ....#let's just say i Really want to like it#romeo.txt
