hahahahahaha i was waiting for someone to ask!! mr r has bailed on me at work again and bossman has the man flu so it's just. me at the office today. working my ass off for partners who are trying to Kill Me™.

what: period cdrama // completed // 40 eps, roughly 45 mins each where: youku (standard disclaimer that i don’t watch with subs so i don’t speak to the quality of eng subs) // i think viki is picking this up?

this is xue fangfei. daughter of a small town magistrate. married a poor scholar for love against the wishes of her dad. this turns out to be a bad, bad, bad decision because he ends up burying her alive in the mountains sometime post-marriage. :)

this all happens in like ep 1, we're just getting started.

xff ends up being rescued by jiang li, who is the prime minister's kinda-sorta-exiled daughter. jl has been stuck in a kinda-sorta-nunnery in the mountains for the past 10 years because of her evil stepmother.

i'll skip past all the other bits because there is a bit of a backstory about what happened to jl, but long story short!! jl dies (kinda-sorta-because of xff). xff decides to get justice for both herself and jl. her plan is:

1. become jiang li 2. go back to the capital 3. ?????? 4. profit make everyone pay

this is xiao heng a.k.a. su-guogong (the translation is duke su but it sounds weird to me so i'm going to stick with su-guogong). he chances upon xff while he's trying to catch a criminal.

xff, who is in the process of executing her Escape Plan, decides eh, any way to escape will do and lets s-gg arrest her to take her back to the capital for interrogation.

(yes, this is wang xingyue who played zhang zhe in kunning palace. yes he looks a++++++ in this show. i am obsessed.)

side bar, counsels, for a bit of very important information -

su-guogong recognises xue fangfei!! he knows 100% that she is not jiang li and that she is going to cause some chaos. he is Committed™ to watching this drama play out.

ANYWAY. this is the loose premise of the show. it's been fun to watch, and i'm enjoying this a lot!! why should you watch the show?

wang xingyue looks so good in this!! the fans? the capes?? i am obsessed!! everyone in the costumes department deserves a raise.

the story moves quickly and doesn't really drag on. so far, it's been nothing complicated and interesting to watch - i wouldn't say this is a plot-heavy show, just a v good 宅斗 for now, but i'm only like 10 eps in.

the torture my ex-husband who murdered me by showing up in front of him and saying all the right things to remind him of me and the fact that he killed me is so good - normally when this happens, the person looks nothing like their former self, but!! xff's looks haven't changed!! so she's just out here going - hi i am jiang li now and oh btw do you know how cold it is in the mountains where you killed me :)

look i'm......intrigued by this whole shen yurong (ex-husband) and the zhang-gongzhu storyline. i want to see how this whole thing plays out!!

a v enjoyable drama!! this is a 爽剧 for reals, like all the plot points get wrapped up and we get a few cute snippets into their happily ever after!! i'm a bit :/ about the way the last few scenes were done in ep 40 (the side character deaths??? extremely unnecessary 🙄🤬 actually the whole war scene was unnecessary but i'm not complaining too much because it gave us That Scene), tbh the whole thing looked more OE leaning BE than HE to me, so the 番外 was quite important to me!! glad we got that!!

shen yurong and zhang-gongzhu both turned out to be so much more interesting than i thought!! a+++ villains, v well-written, and both actors played them beautifully 👏🏼

still an 8.5/10 rec tbh, started strong and held my interest the entire way through

Finally making more progress on the pile of ST books I own but have yet to read. Here’s some good stuff from The Vulcan Academy Murders by Jean Lorrah.

First of all, what is going on with this cover? Nothing like this happens in the book.

Spock being very concerned about Kirk’s injuries. Bones saying Spock is the only person Kirk would tolerate while in pain. Spock asking his father about expressing love for an outworlder. It’s a lot.

I really want to see Octavia's internal conflict about the situation around her and her own existence. Because, until now, we only see her dealing with her daddy issues problems (which I understand the criticism, it bothers me how she's one-dimensional at this point). But I want her to deal with the truth about her existence as a precotionary heir from an arranged marriage.

(TW: MENTIONS OF MARITAL R@P3 AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE)

Her parents were forced to marry. She only exists because her mother raped her father multiple times before getting pregnant (or whatever the term for bird/egg pregnancy is). If her father was able to choose and live the life he wanted since the start, she wouldn't exist. Her existence was forced upon the person that she loves the most (because yes, she clearly loves her father very much despite their complicated relationship). Octavia only exists because her father was forced into horrible, abusive circumstances.

Octavia was born to be an heir, to serve a family. She wasn't planned out of love, like other kids usually are, and this is extremely painful to know. Specially considering that she is the result of a marital rape. Yes, Stolas love her more than anything, he's doing his best to protect her and make her happy, but still, imagine dealing with the fact that you only exist because of coercion and abuse.

I'm also excited to see Octavia's relationship with Stella. She constantly witness her mother's abuse against her father, yet she still doesn't understand the situation completely. Fair, she's a kid and is living under terrible circumstances. But she needs to know the truth, maybe not every detail, though. Which lead me think: before, I thought Stolas is the one who needs to explain the situation for her... but now that I think about, I changed my opinion. Why? Because I doubt Octavia would believe him completely, since she could think he's "giving false excuses to justify his cheating". I think STELLA will be the one to explain everything to her.

Which is, you know, very dark and tragic. Imagine if Octavia ever confronts Stella about her behaviour towards Stolas, and then in respond she's dumped with terrible reveals about the nature of their marriage and maybe even more explicit details about the domestic violence. Idk, maybe she overhears Stella joking with her friends about the times when she raped Stolas, imagined how heartbroken and horrified she would be? But as the wise Mewtwo once said, "the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant, it is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are." So yeah it doesnt matter if you were born throught a bad circumstances, you're worth and valid 🙌🏼

Angst aside, I want Octavia to be a savage and powerful witch, learn all the magic her father teaches and more. I want her to be a powerful witch princess, the one that puts fear onto humans and other demons. Let 👏🏼 her 👏🏼 be 👏🏼 unhinged 👏🏼 she's a royal demon after all

Funnily enough, I have an idea for a fanfic that involves something I believe I haven’t read yet: marriage. 👻

Yes, Margo and Sergei need to get married to save his life. How come?

Set in Season 3 finale.

Margo didn’t have to flee to Moscow nor died, despite the bombing. She wasn’t in her office and Aleida didn’t keep digging in the nuclear engine design stolen by the soviets.

Sergei defects to the States.

He is offered a witness protection life by Department of justice and State. But he refuses that option. He hasn’t come to the US to hide but to live his life, he desperately tells Margo. He emphasises that cosmonaut Rolan Efimovitch didn’t hide himself when he defected to the US in the moon.

Add the dramatic situation that Margo and NASA are going through with the bombing and the mess in Mars. And despite Margo first thinks that Sergei couldn’t have come in the worse moment, he ends up being an important and very comforting presence around her.

Strange as it sounds, the government, Margo, etc… come to the conclusion that the best way to protect him is to make him somehow visible to the public eye, popular.

Announce his defection for personal (not political) reasons: Margo. He won’t work in NASA to support that argument, but he will be teaching as professor in an Engineering University (for instance)

President Wilson and Gorbachov will be proud that NASA director and former Roscosmos Director are involved in a personal relationship… and by promoting this union, Margo and Sergei are pointed out as untouchable. If something happens to them, everybody will know which organisation did it.

Think of how awkward will be for Margo talking to others about this unexpected development in her life. Thinking of it as a kind of marriage of convenience but that’s far from the truth.

They don’t have a proper honey moon, but they will take some weekends off to go to New Orleans. 🎊

Sergei and Margo are scared but full of hope because, despite everything, their hearts will be finally healed . ❤️😜

I think that this episode showed without any doubt that Eddie loved Shannon. He didn't love the idea of her, he didn't just do the right thing, he isn't a closeted case because he married young to the first girl he has been with, he loved her deeply. He only figured it out too late, when he couldn't love her like she deserved and that's is what he's lamenting. I think the fandom gives Shannon so much sh!t. They often act like she was the most horrible person, like she left her son because she was tired of him not because Eddie never put her and her needs in mind at all.

Eddie deserves to be loved and he made a lot of mistakes that don't define him, but it's also unfair to act like he was without faults in their marriage. But Shannon, she is loved and she is understood. I think it's time the fandom let go of the idea of "perfect, victim Eddie" and recognise that Shannon too was only human. (Obviously this is an opinion and you're free to ignore it or disagree with it but as a disabled person myself I thought it's important to be said)

Shannon and Eddie, despite their faults and failings, truly loved each other. I really believe that they were a case of "right person, wrong timeline."

They both screwed up, they both made mistakes. They both ran from one problem only to cause another. They were so young and under so much pressure, but underneath the fights and the arguments and the bitter words and the running... they loved each other.

Shannon was the love of Eddie's life. And Eddie, I think, was the love of Shannon's life, too.

We're quick to lay the blame on Shannon for leaving but I think people forget why she left.

She was being constantly criticised and torn down by Eddie's parents. Constantly belittled and berated and undermined when it came to caring for her own son. She didn't have anyone in her corner. And when Eddie got back, he was so twisted up and angry about the war and everything he'd done and seen and survived, he couldn't see how fast she was sinking until it was too late to pull her back up to the surface. They were both sinking. Both drowning under the pressure and expectations and obligations of their lives, their family that began all too early.

They both ran away.

But it's no coincidence that Eddie chose LA to run to. LA was where Shannon was. He didn't know where, or what she was doing. If she'd moved on. But he ran towards her anyway. And they collided, burning too bright with all of that love turned bitter through time and separation, and they burned each other, they burned out.

And still, when there was even an inkling of a chance to do it all again, Eddie grabbed it with both hands.

He loved her. He just didn't realise how much he loved her until loving her wasn't an option anymore. Until he lost her completely to something so much more permanent than a divorce.

They loved each other. They broke each other's hearts. They hurt each other. They healed each other. They're married. They're not exes but they're not together and there's no way to fix that.

And now Eddie has to go on living like that, somehow, for himself and for Chris and for the memory of the girl he fell in love with and the woman he married.

She was the love of his life. She deserves to be recognised as such.

✎ Commentary of Ep 6 ~ The Loyal Pin (Thai GL-2024) - Part 2

Right after our cute little date we get immediately back to squeaking sound activities. Ahem…

Pin walked right into that one by asking that question to her Princess.

The way Anil holds her face tho… just before she asks “Can I eat you?” AHAJASJAJDI Yes, you can. And she’s not even asking me!

Oh, and she’s about to do exactly that!

We’re not figurative speaking here in this household.

She kneel right in front of her and as Charli and Billie said got all up in it… The princess and her vast knowledge on ahem… *checks notes* squeaking sound activities keeps surprising me!!

And we’re back in a couch people. The flashbacks from Gap ep 9 were strong in this one. We love our little multiverse where the girls mastered the art of being eat-out in a couch. Love that for us! 👏🏼

I caught two infractions just in this sequence! Three if we count that naughty hand sliding under Pin’s skirt… God, I love it here.

We have classical Freen’s in the lower left corner, with the bitting on her finger. Got another classic with them holding hands against the couch. And just the girls being the amazing actresses that they are! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

And their little bubble is bursted, and so it’s ours 😭

Pin discover they have to get married eventually and not exactly to each other :/

The moment that’s clear, Anil send him back to work hahaha she’s not playing!

104. I think what makes this scene so memorable is the fact that Magnus isn’t angry because he understands why Alec is choosing to marry Lydia- she’s great, nice, traditional- like Alec but he’s trying to get through to Alec that he doesn’t have to live a lie with someone he doesn’t love.

and we also have to keep in mind that Alec is used to putting himself and his feelings last. everything he does is for his family and being a shadowhunter with the expectations of his family and the clave. so it is probable that a part of him doesn’t believe he can be in love while being a shadowhunter. he never believed this was in the cards for him so marrying Lydia seems to be the sensible choice for Alec. and it’s not like we have seen or heard of many gay shadowhunters. the clave is so prejudiced against their own people. Alec has so many expectations on him and he was never told or shown that he could be in love, be gay, and be a shadowhunter. even telling Magnus in season two how he didn’t think he could have what he wanted
