Look for the Light
Pairing: Oscar Piastri x Best Friend!Reader
Summary: You are Oscar’s best friend, but when you get sick, how is he going to cope
TW: cancer, death, grief
You will probably cry, I did while writing it at 3am
Based off of the song from Only Murders in the Building
requests are open! masterlist
———————————
Being Oscar’s best friend was the best thing you had achieved in your life, and you made sure the both of you knew it. You grew up a few houses from each other and from the moment you both met, you were inseparable. Spending your childhood on the beach, playing and having adventures of a lifetime. He never minded going to explore with you, especially the lighthouses, they fascinated you. The silent call, the notion of looking for safety, looking for the light. Oscar adored that about you, it’s why he always wanted to spend time with his best friend.
That didn’t stop when Oscar started karting, in fact, you were his number one supporter. As his career took off, he never missed a chance to hang out with you, nor you with him. Some of his friends back home throughout the years teased him about your relationship, but both of you knew that there was nothing more to it other than the tight knit bond, once that was more akin to siblings than romantic.
It was one early fall weekend that you both were on the beach, near your favorite lighthouse when you collapsed. It shifted your worlds forever. Oscar became more reserved and you spent more and more time in the hospital for treatments.
It was cancer, caught early and quickly curable, plus, you were young and healthy, at least that’s what the doctor said. That’s what you all thought. The doctor was right, at least the first time.
You stopped going to his races, falling out of the racing world’s eye, but the bond between you was stronger than ever, especially as his career took off even more. When you ended up in treatment for the second time, he was even more determined to spend time with you. Even now, he sits by your bedside watching a race. He looks at you closely, your skin losing some color and the adventurous spark dimmed in your eyes.
“I love you, Y/n. I’m scared, I can’t lose you,” Oscar admits one day. You both knew what he meant. You are basically his sister.
“Os, it’s ok. I am too, but we gotta be brave,” you choke a little, tears welling in your eyes. The spark in your eyes has all but dimmed out, you find it harder to get through each day.
Oscar is getting his first real shot at F1, but he doesn’t want to miss a moment with his best friend, the one who he has vet every girl he’s dated, because if anyone knows him best, it’s you. The one person he can keep private from his public life, he can hide your pain and suffering from his crazy world.
“It’s not fair,” his eyes well up. The air is thick, the looming darkness has been settling in, the both of you don’t want to acknowledge the truth of it.
“Oscar,” your frail hand grabs his. “I love you, you are my brother, my closest friend, and I am incredibly grateful that you are in my life. Now, adventure is calling, so go and be brave,” you give him your best smile, not wanting to waste his F1 Australia debut, in Melbourne nonetheless, worrying.
“Y/n, I’ll wait by the shore for you,” he says, and you squeeze his had tighter.
“My love is a lighthouse, look for the light,” you whisper. He glances at the clock and with a heavy heart leaves the room to go to the track. Socials think that he is just going charity visits this week since he is home, but the man is so reserved even Lando can’t get him to talk. He calls every night, and you demand to have the races on while you write in your notebook.
Your family is in the room with you, you had taken a turn for the worse overnight but you didn’t want to worry Oscar, not when the race in Melbourne was today, not when you knew what it meant to him. You finished the poem you were writing as there were ten laps left, the strength to write leaving you.
Your mom tried not to cry as she took the notebook and pen from you, your dad slipping beside you in the bed, holding onto his baby. Your mom called Oscar’s mom, who immediately picked up, knowing what the mid-race call meant.
“It’s time. She wrote to Oscar, and I don’t think she will make it past his media right after the race,” your mom chokes out, tears flowing as she hangs up and gets on the other side of you.
“Look Mom! Oscar is in the points, he made it to P8,” you smile at her weakly, your dad filming your reaction to Oscar crossing the line, but he quickly stops it when your monitor blinks irregularly. A nurse rushes in, having talked with you and your family about this moment earlier in the morning. She pushes medicine so you will be able to step into the light without pain, without suffering.
“It doesn’t hurt, I promise. Tell Oscar I love him, and thank you for every moment. I love you both, thank you for choosing me as your child and loving me forever. I will love you beyond my last breath. Look for the light. Will you sing the song to me?” You ask your mom, tears streaming down your face with a small smile.
“Hush little one, let me sing you to sleep. Moonlight has come so drift off to a dream. Sail from the day to the wonders awaiting you out there, in the deep. Off little one, chase the wind on the wave, adventure is calling so go and be brave. But if you get lost as your tossed in the dark of the sea, look for me,” your mom sings the haunting lullaby, watching your breathing slow. On the TV, the camera pans to Oscar celebrating with his team. Your eyes glimmer with happiness for the last time.
“No, baby, no,” your mom pleads, your dad pulls you tighter into him. With the last bit of energy you can muster, you squeeze their hands as your eyes close and a shuttering breath leaves your body. The screams of a mother can be heard over the flatline. The nurse unplugs your machine as another makes a phone call to Oscar’s mom, something you asked a while ago privately, knowing your parents would be too distraught. The nurses follow your wishes with heavy hearts.
———
Oscar gets back to his driver’s room with a large smile on his face, having just celebrated with the team and gone through media. The first thing he sees is his Mom’s tear stained cheeks and he drops his helmet.
“No,” he whispers.
“She’s gone, Os,” his mom cries, pulling him into a hug. His body wracks with sobs. Lando sees the two and quickly leaves, having intended on congratulating his teammate, but now going to inform the team that Oscar won’t be doing press. Lando wasn’t sure what happened, but he knew it had to be personal and that was enough.
“She’s not gone, she’s not,” Oscar says after a minute. His mom wipes a tear off and looks at him with a mix of pity, sorrow, and compassion. “NO,” Oscar yells, his grief taking over, he slumps on the couch, sobbing more. The light house trinket you gifted him years ago sits on a table, a glint of sun shining off the top, as if to provide a comfort, a goodbye.
“I’m sorry. She asked me not to talk you it got worse last night. Her mom called during the race to let me know,” his mom says gently a few minutes later. Social media buzzes as pictures of Oscar’s tear stained face as he left the paddock spreads and speculation grows, but he stays silent.
The funeral is quick, small, near the beach that is home to your favorite lighthouse. It’s more of a memorial, your family having chosen to go with a closed casket burial because you didn’t want to be remembered in that state. So here Oscar is, outside Cape Otway, sitting on a rock, your unopened letter in his hand. It’s two pages, and he hasn’t had the strength to open the folded pages. He looks at the sunset, it’s rays washing over him. The ocean seems to tell him to open the letters.
Oscar,
Words cannot describe how proud I am of you. My best friend achieved his dream, what more can I ask for? More time? No. It’s odd, writing a letter about my own death. I can only assume how you feel. I’m sorry that I left you, but I never truly did. I’m in the light, I went peacefully and painlessly, surrounded by love. The sunset you see, the stars shining on you, a ray of sunshine bouncing off of something, that’s me. Don’t wait forever by the shore for me, you don’t need to weather each storm, standing by until I return. I will always be with you. Don’t be afraid to grieve, share my light wherever you go, keep me with you and alive in spirit. I love you, my best friend and brother.
Your lighthouse, beyond my last breath,
Y/n
Oscar moves your letter behind the next, his eyes looking at the poem, this one’s writing significantly harder to read. Your weak state evident in the messy lines, but it’s perfect to him.
Os- I finished the lullaby, find comfort in it when you miss me. Look for the light
Hush, little one, let me sing you to sleep
Moonlight has come, now, drift off to a dream
Sail from the day to the wonders awaiting you out there
In the deep
Off little one, chase the wind on the waves
Adventure is calling, so go and be brave
But if you get lost as you're tossed in the dark of the sea
Look for me
I will wait at the shore for you
I will weather each storm standing by 'til
Safe, you return from the night
My love is a lighthouse
So look for the light
The light
I will wait at the shore for you
I will weather each storm standing by 'til
Safe, you return from the night
My love is a lighthouse
So look for the light
The light
Oscar sniffles, carefully pocketing the papers. He pulls out his phone and watches the video he hasn’t dared to open until now, the one your father sent to him, a smile gracing his face as he sees you cheer as he crosses the line, but it drops as he hears the beeping before the video cuts. He looks up at the lighthouse for a minute, taking a picture for his personal memorial, before returning home. He changes his helmets to include a lighthouse, refusing to put one on that doesn’t.
The drivers and the McLaren team notice a shift in the driver when he appears in Baku. Lando takes it upon himself to try and get information from Oscar but fails. Instead Oscar turns to Pierre, Mick, and Charles.
“Her name was Y/n, she was my best friend, my sister. She died shortly after I crossed the finish line in Melbourne,” tears sting the young drivers eyes as he lays out his grief to the two drivers who know his pain better than anyone. Mick encourages Oscar to share the good, not the illness. It isn’t much, but the driver’s spirit has lifted a little bit, and the four agree to share their grief with each other more often, finding a healthy outlet with each other.
Lando only praised his teammate for his strength when asked about that Melbourne day, and reiterated that private matters were just that, private. Shortly after talking with the other three, Oscar sat Lando, Andrea Stella, and Zak down and let them know the basics of what happened.
“I’m sorry man, I didn’t even know you had someone that close to you,” Lando put a hand on Oscar’s shoulder. Oscar looks at the sunset with a sad smile.
“It’s ok, she’s here,” Oscar says, a hand over the lighthouse on his helmet.

CloverCoin Artpack 2024 March + Updates
[PATREON POST + ART PACK] Hey everyone... I see March is rounding the corner to being over and I realized I never actually make an official patreon post yet. A lot has been happening on our end / IRL. We recently found our we might need to move this summer... But thanks to a lot of back and forth between us and the new landlord we got a lease extension for 1 year to prepare our savings and safely move out to another place in town or around this town we are currently living in. After a lot of discussion between my husband and I, we're really struggling to find rental single family homes that fit our disability needs AND budget. Rent bubble in our area is about 70% more than our current rent which... is mind blowing. But we are determined! With further discussion we think we agree, we'd like to buy a house to make sure our needs are met and that we can take care of our senior dogs without having our lives uprooted without notice. So our belts are going to be really tight over the next year while we try to scrimp and save every penny to go towards our goal to purchase a house next year. That is scary but also so exciting! Wish us luck, we're going to need every lick of it to pull this off. ~~~ Other worse news... The reason why I've been struggling these past few weeks. My family has been reaching out to me and it's official. My mother has a terminal cancer diagnosis. I do not live near her, so I would like to budget a trip out to see her at some point this summer. We don't have any real time lines yet until we see how to reacts to chemo treatment. She's just started that this month. So that's been a weird tangle of emotions and talking with my siblings about what we expect out of all this. How we each can help in what ways we can. One of my older sisters is taking control of talking with the doctors and updating us since my mother is extremely avoidant about talking about her illnesses. At this time I won't be taking any time off from working and doing adopts/commissions. We need the money more than ever, even just to go fly or drive up to see her. But I will update on patreon/discord when I'm taking a week or so off to visit her. ~~~ More middling news? Our two senior dogs, Ollie and Junior, have been having little health scares this year. Feels like 2024 just started and so much has happened! Ollie has been diagnosed with a heart murmur and is on medication now to help treat it. Diet and life style changes as well to help him stay fit. Junior may have had a small seizure or stroke, for 2 days he was not able to stand or walk which really scared us. Both have been to the vet multiple times this year and are being watched VERY closely. I just hope nothing happens to them before we find them a new house to live in. (knocks on wood) ~~~ I myself am having some medical issues but... Just with everything going on I just haven't had time to assign myself with a new clinic and new gp. My new health insurance won't let me see the old one anymore and it's EXTREMELY disruptive to my whole life. So there's a chance my body might get a flat tire in the future, but I'll try to manage it accordingly. To end it all on a good note, I did finally finish my very last tooth filling / replacement and after a year and a half of constant dentist visits, my mouth is all fixed! Hooray!!!! Now we just have to tackle my jaw and TMJ problems haha. ~~~ I think... that's the big items of what's going on. Why I've been really absent online and for updates. Life just kinda had a weird downpour on us, but we're sorting it out. We signed a new lease. Prov is working very hard at his new job. The future is really scary for me right now and I'm really struggling. Please be patient with me while we go through these big life changes at this time. I'll be opening up new commission slots soon to start a monthly income to help with house savings. If anyone has pending commissions with me or trades, please never hesitate to DM me/poke me for updates. I've been a lot more disorganized more than usual lately and I am happy to give any updates or refunds as needed should anything come up that I can't handle. Sorry bout the long read everyone, but thank you so much for skimming through and keeping up with what's going on in my life. I've been desperately missing art more and more every day I spend away from it, so I look forward to sharing even more art with you all! Thank yo everyone for all your support! AJD . ART

Jesus fucking Christ on a shitbiscuit.
Mau has been vomiting for three days. He clearly wants and tries to eat, albeit slowly, drinks a lot of water, his poop is only a little loose. He's just very fussy and even more hyper than usual, if anything. Had hoped it would clear up on its own, but at the end of day two last night decided to take him to the vet in the morning.
Except I'd done something ungodly to my back during the night and woke up to knives sinking into my neck and shoulder whenever I tried to move them. Helpless as an upended turtle, I found a vet to do a home visit instead.
But the minute Mau saw the doc walking up to the front door, he turned into something between a snake and that kid from the Exorcist. I've seen freaked out cats but this one was flat possessed. Scratched my back scrambling out of my arms and shot upstairs like a bullet. I went and collected him and he again went berserk and hissing and spitting and twisting. Ran and hid under the tables and cupboards twice, tried to get out through the window and finally had to be scruffed by the assistant himself because even I couldn't get near him. I've never been afraid of a cat in my life but Mau then just froze with all his claws and fangs out, fur standing on end, hissing without pause like an enraged anaconda. Absolutely vibrating retribution. We had to put a towel over his head to calm him down.
I was literally bleeding at the end. Scratches all down my arms and back. Stung like hell in the shower. At least the doc said there's definitely nothing wrong with his level of activity. 😂
They're all scared at the vet but I've never seen any of them like that. I think Mau felt cornered in his own house and the vet probably smelled like sick and frightened animals. And dogs.
Mau seems fine, he's just getting some antibiotics, softer food and an antiemetic. Vet didn't seem too concerned. Ironically, while tussling with him my back muscle somehow got pulled the other way. It hurts like a bitch but I can move my shoulder now lmaooo. I've been in agony all day. Can't believe all it took was wrestling a demented cat to sort it out. Two in one treatment.
Méka came to investigate and watched the entire proceedings unperturbed and somewhat judgementally off to the side. My brave, clever girl was curious about the doc instead of scared. Maybe he can make friends with them next time. I'll have some treats ready.

I'm so heartbroken. My brother's cat died today. I loved that cat so much and my brother loved him even more. He was only 8. He was such a sweet guy. I haven't seen him in so long and now I never will. We were supposed to have a family Halloween party today but my brother didn't make it because he was taking the cat to the emergency vet. I didn't know until I got home and saw facebook what the outcome was. I really wanted it to be that he would be ok, not gone. Ever since my cousin very unexpectedly died a few months ago, we all decided we needed to make more effort to see each other. We all regretted how little we had seen him these past several years with him living overseas. So my other cousin, his brother, put together this Halloween party. The only time I've seen him since before covid was at the funeral and memorial when we were focused on other things. But today the first thing he said to me was "is everything ok, you're looking really frail" and that kind of broke my heart. Because it's really the first thing people notice about me now. I knew I was looking frail, but hearing so many people point it out lately hurts. I'm just a frail sickly old lady now, and that's all anyone sees when they look at me. People at doctors and physical therapy talk about how tiny I am, how I have no substance to my body as if pointing out the obvious is supposed to do any good? I've tried so so hard to become well these past few years but this year more than any other time of my life the sickness just shows on me like flashing red lights. And no one can find out why and nothing makes me better and I'm trying everything I possibly can and going into so much debt it scares me but nothing helps and sometimes I just get so tired of trying I don't want to even try anymore. I had to get a mammogram this week to recheck this suspicious spot they have been keeping an eye on, the lady who administered it was so concerned about my appearance and loss of tissue since my last scan. I told her I'd been sick and hadn't been able to gain weight and she just looked at me with this sad worried look and in a sad worried tone said "you can't gain any weight"? and I just shook my head. Thankfully for the first time in years my scan was all clear though so at least I don't have to get another one for awhile. But it was just another incidence of how horrible I must appear to others. People who don't know me. It's not just in my head anymore. It's real and it's out there. And I don't understand why I can't gain weight. I've always been able to gain weight. (except in 2013/14 when I was recovering from a difficult surgery) I never thought I'd reach middle age and be tiny and frail, this is the time of life women usually put on weight. It makes no sense. Then my GI visit was so bad he thinks it's just IBS. Despite all my symptoms and how sick I look, despite IBS shouldn't affect your weight, make your stomach swell and bleed, suddenly be allergic to things you were never allergic to, loss of muscle and so much more. I BEGGED him to at least test me for sibo, but he doesn't think it could possibly be that. And maybe it's not but it's something they haven't checked for and is easy to check for but I'm pretty sure he just thinks I'm crazy. He actually bulged his eyes out when I told him I just wanted to be able to eat more types of food and gain weight, as if it was some unreasonable thing to want. I like my 2 physical therapists a lot though, they recognize how bad my condition is and are trying hard to help me improve. But I haven't been making any improvements and I'm scared they are going to have to dismiss me. My main PT person assures me that it will take a very long time to see improvements with how bad my condition is but since I can't find someone who will even try to find out exactly what causes me to be in this horrible condition will it even be possible to improve with any amount of time?

Today has been an absolute fucking shitshow.
I want to preface this with the knowledge that this cat is the first pet I've really had. My family had dogs, but it was...let's just say it was not a good situation, and we tended to get rid of the dogs before they were in a position to be put down. So a lot of this is new to me, I don't know what's normal, and every time we talked about the situation to people, we got the same response: "You're doing this right, it's better to go a day early than a day late."
To jump to the conclusion: babycat is still alive. The vet did come over, and talked about how all things considered, she still seemed in decent condition. Super lethargic and a little raspy, but apparently the fact she's still eating is sufficient to say she's doing okay. But he checked her lungs too, and apparently they're surprisingly clear? So like. Okay. Strongest diseased lungs. Far surpassing expectations on life expectancy. He said she would likely survive through New Years, into the week they'd be open again.
So okay, now the fuckery.
This was scheduled for 12-2. Somewhere in there, hard to say exactly when given schedules run late sometimes, but in that area. We get a call at 12:20, asking when we're bringing her in. ...no, you're coming to us. That was the entire reason for scheduling this, was that she's scared to go to the office and scared to go in her carry case by association. We're not doing that to her. After some apologies and an explanation that they don't usually do in-home for cats (but do for dogs, go fucking figure), in addition to my wife cancelling because I couldn't talk I was crying so hard, and them calling back to offer coming out after hours due to the mix-up, we were back on for this. Only for him to show up, look at her, and ask us what made us think this was the time. As if you didn't tell us we needed to schedule in advance for in-home.
So at this point, we're not doing in-home. This is the only local vet, but to be honest, this was a disaster. He doesn't even seem to remember that he scheduled this appointment for us personally with this condition in mind. And when we talked about options, and how the in-home could be scheduled again but if something happens before then, what do? My bottom line was, if we needed to, we could bring her in. All I would ask is that we be there with her.
And we could not get a straight answer. He didn't say no, but he sure didn't say yes. If anything it sounded like the expectation is drop off the pet and he'll do it between appointments. Which. No. I'm not bringing her, leaving her, alone and scared, until they decide they can sneak it in.
We were so clear about all of this. I cannot stress enough that we spent that entire appointment doing nothing but talking about needing to be there and therefore doing it at home. And it fell through spectacularly. Worse than I could've imagined. And now we're being told that, if we don't schedule in advance for the home visit, that we may not even be able to stay with her when they do have to put her down? No. No, we will travel the hour to an urgent care when it's time, and we will be staying with her. I'm so done with this. I'm so mad.
The good news is, cat remains. Her diseased baby lungs are still powerful, it seems. She's definitely on the decline, but we get more time, and we're not agonizing over whether it's too soon or whatever. We're going somewhere they'll let us stay with her. I don't know how long it will be. She declined quickly and this may come on quickly. But I am far, far too tired now to think about this. My baby is still alive, and as long as she is, we're going to take care of her. And when it's her time to go, we're going to be there with her, no matter how far we have to go to make it happen.

Obey Me! Headcanons - The Demon Brothers react to a MC who owns a golden retriever 🐕
Author’s note: I'm home :3 Feel free to reblog, but please do not repost!! If you enjoy my writing, do leave me a like and/or a comment (and follow me to see similar content in the future :D)!
_____
Lucifer ☕
• When your dog first bounds over to greet Lucifer, it’s difficult to tell if the eldest born is a fan of your four-legged pal or not. The Avatar of Pride scrutinizes the ball of fluff as if he were a judge on a dog show —all the while as your dog vibrates impatiently by the front door with a tennis ball in its mouth. Perhaps it senses the need to be on its best behaviour if it’s to impress Lucifer.
• “A pet is a responsibility, not a novelty. I sincerely hope that you thought long and hard about the obligations of a pet owner before you went ahead with your decision to adopt. That being said, you appear to be doing quite well with your four-legged companion —they’re very well behaved. I have absolutely no qualms with you taking over Cerberus’s care when you return to the House of Lamentation; clearly you’d manage much more elegantly than my brothers. Perhaps Cerberus would enjoy the company of your charming pooch as well…”
• So Lucifer does like your dog. Not an entirely surprising revelation, if you’ve seen how he behaves around Cerberus in private. The strict no-nonsense archdemon turns into the softest dog owner that you’d ever have the pleasure of meeting; he’s all ear scritches and belly rubs. By the end of his visit, your dog is blissfully rolling on the carpet by Lucifer’s feet as the Avatar of Pride informs it over and over again that it is indeed “a good dog”.
• Perhaps you’ll even catch the small —but genuine— smile twitching at the corners of Lucifer’s lips as he does so.
Mammon 💳:
• In hindsight, perhaps giving Mammon a heads up about the presence of your pooch would have been a good idea.
• Despite your numerous attempts to reassure Mammon that the furry ball of enthusiasm barreling towards him is a Good Dog™, the terrified shriek that escapes the Avatar of Greed is shrill and ear-splitting enough to shatter your windows (Metaphorically speaking, of course. Rest assured, no windows were harmed in the writing of this headcanon.). When your dog leaps at him to nudge its head into his hand for scritches™ and headpats™, Mammon’s life flashes before his eyes. The only image that he can bring to mind before he passes out cold on your carpet is Cerberus’s terrifying snarl.
• When Mammon comes to, your dog is sitting on his chest —looking concerned and suitably chastised for accidentally scaring the living daylights out of the demon. (Even though Mammon refuses to come clean about how terrified he was. “The great Mammon? Afraid of a lil’ dog? W-What...What are ya talkin’ about? I wasn’t scared!”) The events that occurred over the last couple of minutes play on a loop in Mammon's mind. It finally dawns on him that your dog isn’t the ferocious beast that his imagination had conjured up, and his cheeks flush scarlet.
• Please give your demon a hug. I think he needs one. Or several.
Leviathan 🎮:
• If Leviathan had a pet ranking system, Henry 1.0 and Henry 2.0 would always claim the highest spots possible —the S-tiered, 5-star gods of the pet world. No golden retriever could ever worm its way to the top and snatch his love for them from under his feet. Sorry. But your dog is pretty cute, he’ll give you that.
• Too cute, maybe. Hey...um...you don’t love your dog more than you love him, right? What? Him, the Avatar of Envy, jealous? No! Of course not! Why would you make such an outrageous assumption? He’s not jealous —an adorable fluff ball of enthusiasm for the outdoors and joy is a way better than an icky otaku, after all. Leviathan doesn’t blame you for choosing your dog over him. Any sane individual would do the same...
• When you finally manage to reassure your demon that your dog is in no way competition for the affection that you hold for him, —he’ll always be your favourite demon, even if you have a dog. Even if you have a hundred dogs. Nothing is going to change that— he begins looking at your pooch in a different light. That’s right —as a potential cosplay partner. There’s this new anime that’s been released recently...Levi was wondering if you had heard of it? It’s titled: My Partner Is The Proud Owner Of A Golden Retriever And I’m An Otaku Who Enjoys The Simple Pleasure Of Collecting Merchandise and Cosplaying. One of the main characters happens to own a golden retriever as well, and if you’re willing to give him your blessing (the irony, I know), perhaps you’d lend him your pooch for an afternoon of cosplay and photography?
Satan 📚:
• Satan is a cultured demon who enjoys the company of four-legged companions, but he’s admittedly a fan of felines...not canines. Still, he prides himself on keeping an open mind towards new experiences, so he agrees to spend an afternoon with you and your dog (Even though he’d much rather be attending the opening day ceremony of the Devildom’s newest cat cafe. The things he does for love.).
• He performs some through research before meeting your dog for the first time; spending afternoon after afternoon in the sanctuary of his room reading about dogs and how to care for them. No number of books could prepare him for the real thing, however. When Satan first comes over to spend the afternoon in your home, he’s stiff and awkward —unsure of what to do with a dog. He ends up spending the first hour on your couch, sipping tea and spouting facts about golden retrievers.
• Show him the rope that your dog enjoys playing tug-of-war with, or the tennis ball that it insists on carrying in its jaws everywhere it goes. It takes a while for Satan to warm up to your pooch, but he’ll gradually learn to love —or at the very least, tolerate— your canine companion, even though he still firmly believes in the superiority of cats. Speaking of which, you’d accompany him on a date to that new cat cafe, right?
Asmodeus 💋:
• Oh! Your golden retriever is absolutely adorable! And gorgeous too —albeit not as beautiful as him, but that’s to be expected. There’s not a single individual in all of the three realms that could match up to his beauty. And your dog has such luscious fur too...dear Diavolo, he’d kill to have a haircare routine that’s as effective on his locks.
• Would you be willing to take a photo of him posing with your pooch? It’s for his Devilgram followers, of course —such beauty must be shared with the world, no? You’re not entirely sure if Asmo’s referring to his beauty, your dog’s beauty, or the shared, collective beauty of him and your dog. It doesn’t particularly matter. The two (three?) of you end up spending the entire afternoon orchestrating an impromptu photoshoot, and then spending the evening editing the photographs from said shoot for Devilgram.
• Generally gets along with your four-legged companion like a house on fire. There’s just one, itsy-bitsy issue.
• Your dog sheds. A ton. No matter how often you brush its fur, or how many boundaries you set about it not being allowed on the furniture, it seems determined to shed every carpet, sofa and bed that you own. Asmo never stops whining about the copious amounts of fur that now decorate every article of clothing he owns, but at least your dog seems happy to be able to leave its mark —on Asmo’s ensembles, of course, but also his heart.
Beelzebub 🍔:
• Corporate has asked you to find the difference between this picture and this picture—
• Asmo gets along well with your dog. Beel gets along with your dog even better. As one of the few only brothers who’s willing to spend any amount of time with Cerberus (granted, most of the time he’s only doing so because he’s been promised free food), Beel has grown into quite the dog lover. Your dog seems thrilled to be in the company of someone who appears to wholeheartedly enjoy its company —your dog is thrilled by the company of anyone who’s willing to give it their time of day, but still— and Beelzebub is thrilled to be in the company of a four-legged companion who appears to wholeheartedly enjoy his company. Beel is happy to spend whole afternoons playing with your dog...interspaced with the occasional snack break, of course.
• Speaking of which, Beel very much struggles with not giving into your golden retriever’s extremely convincing puppy dog eyes. Objectively, he knows that giving your dog human (or demon) food is a terrible idea —the last thing he wants is to be the reason that your dog has to take a trip to the vet. But your dog is so cute! And it’s looking at his food with such an intense longing in its eyes...Beel can relate to that. Surely a little nibble wouldn’t hurt…
• When you find yourself having to tell Beel off, suddenly you find yourself at the receiving end of 2 sets of puppy dog eyes; both Beel and your pupper are very sorry. They swear it’ll never happen again! Please don’t be upset…
• How are you supposed to stay mad at them?
Belphegor 🛏:
• ...listen.
• It’s not that he hates dogs. Honestly! He likes dogs as much as the next demon! But they can be loud and yappy and so incredibly energetic, and your golden retriever is more hyper than most. It always wants to go on walks, or play fetch, or make him throw its favourite tennis ball over and over again but refuse to hand it over so he has to engage in a slobbery game of tug-of-war to steal the ball from it —it’s just too much for the Avatar of Sloth. Just watching your dog zip across the room in a display of its endless amounts of energy is enough to tire Belphie out...is playtime over yet? He just wants to take a nap.
• Makes multiple attempts to talk you into allowing Beel to look after your dog. Just for an afternoon! His twin certainly has the energy to keep your hyperactive pup entertained for the whole day, and since you can be assured that your dog is well taken care of, perhaps the two of you could finally stay inside for once and take a nice, long nap. It’s been too long since he’s gotten to hold you in his arms…
• By the time Beel returns your dog to you, it’s all tuckered out from its day of adventures. As you’re thanking Beel for looking after your dog for the day, you catch him chuckling softly at something over your shoulder —Belphie and your furry friend, dozing off together on the couch. They appear to finally be getting along.
BONUS: I'm still not terribly comfortable with adding the (former) undatables to my writing repertoire, but my partner happens to be very fond of the demon butler...and I happen to be very fond of them. So just this once, just to see how it goes...
Barbatos 🍵:
• Oh? So this is the sweet bundle of fur that he’s heard so much about. It’s a pleasure to meet them at long last. Barbatos has always been fond of dogs, and your dog is quite an endearing creature to say the least...it actually reminds Barbatos of Cerberus when he was a puppy. How time flies.
• Treats your dog as if it were an esteemed guest of the castle. As long as Barbatos is around, you needn’t lift a finger when it comes to the care of your beloved pet. Keeping your dog fed and watered? Barbatos has it covered; the butler seems to have an in built in timer when it comes to feeding your dog —Barbatos serves its meals at exactly 6 in the morning and 6 in the evening. Not a minute early, not a minute late. When taking your dog out on walks, he carries a spare bottle of water for the sole purpose of offering it to your dog if it gets thirsty. Speaking of walks...Barbatos is more than happy to escort your pooch on walks in the event that you’re unavailable to do so yourself. Barbatos generally allows your golden to lead the way on their excursions, and is content with following along behind it to keep it out of trouble for however long it wishes to remain outdoors. If it were to tire itself out, Barbatos takes your dog into his arms and carries it the rest of the way home.
• Your pooch becomes very spoiled very quickly. It’s unclear if you’ve gained a butler...or if your dog has.

My, My, My, My, Lover - Scott McCall
Teen Wolf Masterlist // Main Masterlist
Tumblr media
Summary: Y/N and Scott go through their life from high school to marriage and explore the ups and downs of a relationship.
Request: can i please request lover by taylor swift and scott mccall? i have fallen in love with tyler posey and lover is one of my favorite songs. as for an idea, maybe just all the cute moments of scott and the reader, from their first meeting, to the first kiss, a random moment of her scraping her knee or something, up until the wedding. i just need some scott fluff. 😭💕 thank you so much. you don’t have to write this if you don’t want to! 🥺
Requested by: @blkwd
Pairing: Scott McCall x Female!Reader
Warnings: Nothing just fluff
AN: Based on the Song Lover by Taylor swift. I love this and I love Scott and Taylor Swift.
We could leave the Christmas lights up 'til January This is our place, we make the rules And there's a dazzling haze, a mysterious way about you, dear Have I known you twenty seconds or twenty years?
Y/N met Scott when she was in the 11th grade through his mom who she worked with a student volunteer. She knew who Scott was since he was the captain of the lacrosse team but she never actually met him.
She was invited over to dinner when Melissa asked her to join her and Scott for dinner. She agreed because she didn’t want to be mean and rude to her.
When they first met they obviously had some chemistry.
Scott asked her out a week later with a smile on his face. And of course Y/N agreed because she liked the boy as well.
When she found out about him being a werewolf is when he showed her after a few months of dating. He was worried that she was going to be scared of him and run off.
But Y/N didn’t do that she hugged Scott and whispered in his ear and told him “Thanks for telling me and trusting me.”
Even though Y/N was kind of freaked out the first time she saw him turn to a werewolf she wasn’t scared of because she knew he could never hurt her.
Scott hugged her back thankful that he didn’t scare her off.
She became friends with his friends and was close with Lydia after they first met.
Whenever Y/N and Scott talked it felt like they knew each other for years. She loved everything about him and he loved everything about her.
Can I go where you go? Can we always be this close forever and ever? And ah, take me out, and take me home You're my, my, my, my lover
After high school they stayed close through long distance since Scott wanted to be a vet and Y/N wanted to be a doctor. Even though long distance is hard they face timed and called everyday.
They visited each other in Beacon Hills for holidays.
When one day they came to Beacon Hills for Christmas. Scott was nervous since he was going to ask Y/N to marry him.
He asked for Lydia’s help to pick out a ring and Lydia gladly excepted to help. She was happy for her best friends.
They were in their 4 year of school and have been dating for a long time.
Y/N had a surprise for him as well. She was going to move where he was and take online school for the rest of her college years. She missed being next to Scott and didn’t want to be away from him even more.
After eating Christmas dinner her and Scott went out for a walk.
As she was about to tell Scott he got on one knee and got a jewelry box out.
“Scott what’s going on,” Y/N gasped.
“Y/N you and have been dating for 6 years and I know you are the love of my life. After Allison I thought I wouldn’t find anyone else but then you came along. Will You marry me,” Scott asked with a smile on his face while Y/N gaped at him with her mouth wide open.
“Yes,” She accepted with a wide grin on her face while pulling him up to hug him and kiss him on the lips.
Scott put the ring on her finger after they were finished with their kissing with a smile on his face.
“I can’t wait for you to be my wife.”
We could let our friends crash in the living room This is our place, we make the call And I'm highly suspicious that everyone who sees you wants you I've loved you three summers now, honey, but I want 'em all
Now Living together Scott and Y/N live together are happy with their lives. Even happier than before.
After Scott asked her to marry him, she told him about wanting to move with him. At first he said no because of her education but she explained she could do on line school.
Scott was a bit hesitant but agreed none the less.
When ever their friends come to visit they would always have a place on the couch for them. When ever their friends were in town there was always a place for them at their place.
They only owned a one bedroom apartment and it was small.
Even though Scott was still a werewolf he could control it with the full moon because of Y/N.
Whenever Y/N saw Scott talking to a girl she gets a bit jealous because whenever she sees someone looking at him she thinks that they want him. She keeps that to herself because she trust Scott.
Same thing with Scott he would get jealous of any guy talking to her as well.
Can I go where you go? Can we always be this close forever and ever? And ah, take me out, and take me home (forever and ever) You're my, my, my, my lover
Arguments.
They were very rare for Y/N and Scott but when they do they always end of saying something that they don’t mean.
Scott would always sleep on the couch and Y/N would always be alone in the bed.
This one argument was over Y/N wanting to get married sooner than later. Scott said not at the moment because they were in college still.
Y/N asked why and asked if he didn’t want to get married. And in return Scott told her why he wouldn’t be in love with and to stop being so selfish. In return Y/N called him a dick and ran to her bedroom locking the door.
Scott could open the door but decided against knowing that she need some time to her self. And he felt guilty.
He didn’t mean to snap at her but school was getting him frustrated.
In the morning Scott made breakfast for her.
“No,” Y/N blandly said before turning to the room but Scott stopped her.
“Please just sit and we can talk,” Scott pleaded with her giving her his puppy dog eyes. Y/N sighed and rolled her eyes before sitting down.
“So what do you have to say,” Y/N asked while shoving some bacon in her mouth.
“I wanted to say sorry about how mean I was, I was frustrated with school and took it out on you and I shouldn’t have,” Scott apologized to her.
“I just wanted to get married sooner,“ Y/N whispered looking down at the scrambled eggs.
“I know and I decided I want that too,” Scott admitted putting some eggs in his mouth.
Y/N head snapped up with a shocked look on her face.
“Really you sure you ok with that,” Y/N asked feeling really giddy. She didn’t want to force him into this thought.
“Yes I’m sure,” Scott chuckled.
Y/N clapped her hand getting up to sit on his lap bringing her lips to kiss his lips feeling happy.
Ladies and gentlemen, will you please stand? With every guitar string scar on my hand I take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover My heart's been borrowed and yours has been blue All's well that ends well to end up with you Swear to be overdramatic and true to my lover And you'll save all your dirtiest jokes for me And at every table, I'll save you a seat, lover
“You may now kiss the bride.”
Finally they got married. Y/N was so excited to marry him that day. She had the perfect dress and hair.
Y/N was so happy to be with him. She could be herself around him and he didn’t judge her for that.
With the hard ships they found each other.
Y/N had her hair broken by many boys and Scott had Allison die in his arms and he knew she would want him to be happy. He loved her and she loved him
Scott kissed her softly and everyone stood up and clapped happy for the too. Y/N had Lydia as her bridesmaid and Stiles was Scott’s best man which was convenient for the both of them.
“I’m so happy you’re now my wife.”
Can I go where you go? Can we always be this close forever and ever?And ah, take me out, and take me home (forever and ever) You're my, my, my, my Oh, you're my, my, my, my Darling, you're my, my, my, my lover
Now a year later Y/N laid in bed with Scott by her side. He was sleeping and she admired him as he slept.
His arm was wrapped around the huge baby bump.
She found out she was pregnant around six months ago. She was happy and worried. She didn’t know if Scott wanted to be a dad and if he didn’t would he leave her.
When she told him he was over the moon for Y/N and himself. He hugged her and kissed her happiness surrounded him.
“What’s wrong Y/N/N,” Scott yawned as he woke up and noticed she was awake as well.
“Nothing I’m just happy to be with you.”

Chapter Fourteen: Welcome Home, Sabine Freemen
"Really Miss Jones, you didn't have to go out of your way to check on Mama," Emile stated.
In all her years, Sabine had carried out worse plans before than the one she hastily concocted last night in bed.
Sabine smiled a little, "I was concerned, your mother seemed so wound up yesterday and I felt obligated to check on her well being," she explained.
"How did you find our home?" Emile asked, tilting her head slightly.
"Well, your mother had said your first name and then your surname. I put two and two together and... " Sabine answered, before trailing off as Emile raised her eyebrows in anticipation. "Let's just say I'm an extremely determined young woman," she finished, with a nod and smiling slightly.
Just then, a maid entered the parlor room holding a silver tray in her hands. Another maid followed behind her, with saucers for milk and sugar. Emile had them place the trays on the table and dismissed them with a gracious smile.
"Miss Jones, would you care for tea?" she asked, taking the teapot in her hands.
"Yes, please," Sabine responded.
She looked around the sitting room, the home seemed quite similar to their hideout in some aspects. And in others, well, it was quite clear the immortals didn't have a decorator come in and acquire furniture in some expensive European store in Philadelphia.
"You have a lovely home Miss Freemen," Sabine commented, bringing her attention back to her older sister.
"Actually, it's Mrs. Freemen," she corrected, a soft chuckle escaping her. "You wouldn't believe how many other Freemen's you'll meet in New York," she added, as she finished pouring the amber liquid into their cups. "Thank you though, this home is big enough for Mama, Papa, and my family," Emile stated.
"Your father?" Sabine questioned, trying to keep her best poker face at the revelation.
"Mhmm," Emile hummed, stirring her sugar and milk into the tea. "It is quite an improvement from a raggedy slave shack, wouldn't you say?" she asked, lifting her cup to her lips and Sabine could only nod. "Papa didn't think he would live to see the day that colored folks would be able to live as dignified citizens of this country, and hold a dignified job being dressmakers," Emile explained, bringing her cup down.
"And here you are,"
"And here we are,"
"Do you have any more family?" Sabine asked curiously, as if Emile wasn't literally talking to her sister.
"I have a husband named Lee, he's out of state on a business trip. I have two sons, Jimmy and Phillip. My oldest, Phillip, lives in Chicago and practices medicine. Jimmy, he's about your age. He's down in D.C. studying at Howard University, he'll be home soon. Lastly, I have...had a..." Emile said, her voice lowering.
"A younger sister?" Sabine supplied quietly.
"Yes," she whispered, placing her teacup and saucer down onto the table with a soft clack. "Sabine, she was only five when she was taken from us, Mama never forgave herself," Emile stated.
"But why? Your mother can't possibly blame herself for her child being ripped away from her," Sabine said.
"You see, the day that Sabine was taken, we were supposed to runaway at night and go up North," Emile explained. "Mama has agonized over the question of 'what if we left the night before?' ever since," she finished, her mouth drawn into a thin line.
"I'm sorry about your sister," Sabine said softly. "Do you think she's alive still?" she questioned, trying to gauge Emile's reaction.
"In my heart, I want to believe that's she still here, that she escaped. But, my mind is also telling me to be logical, and that is no, little Sabine didn't survive enslavement," she replied. "She could be a feisty five year old, you know?" Emile said, a watery smile on her face. "And feisty slaves don't last long on plantations," she reminded grimly.
It was quiet after Emile's haunting statement, Sabine felt as though she lost her appetite. A feisty slave she was, and Emile was right, they don't last long. Sabine knew from firsthand experience. Suddenly, the door opened and Emile and Sabine both jumped back from the table slightly.
"Mrs. Freemen—"
"Goodness gracious," Emile breathed, placing her hand on her chest. "You scared the living daylights out of us," she laughed, and shook head.
"A'm sorry ma'am, but there's an ofay-I mean, white man at the door," the maid announced. "He said he's here to collect Miss Jones and return her home," she continued, glancing over at Sabine.
"Thank you, I'll see my guest to the door," Emile responded, the girl bowed her head and left the room again.
"I presume that this is the same ofay from yesterday?" Emile questioned, a knowing smirk on her lips.
Sabine laughed softly, "Yes, it is," she admitted. "But in his defense, Mr. Greene is alright for an ofay," she joked, standing up from her seat.
"Is he your husband?" Emile inquired, lifting her brow as stood as well.
"No," Sabine answered quickly, a nervous chuckle coming from her. "Thank you for hosting me Mrs. Freeman-"
"Pfft," Emile said, waving her hand. "Please, call me Emile,"
She smiled, "I know I showed up to your home uninvited and completely unexpected," Sabine stated, offering her hand for Emile to take.
Sabine waited for the woman to take her hand, but instead Emile softly grabbed her by the shoulders and kept her at an arms length.
"You know, I can see why Mama could mistake for you for our Sabine," Emile commented, tilting her head to the side. "You do have my sister's eyes," she mused, sighing wistfully. "Do come back and visit us again Miss Jones. I would love for you to meet the rest of my family and reintroduce to Mama when she's less hysterical," Emile joked, removing her hands from Sabine.
"I would like that, very much!" Sabine stated, vigorously nodding her head. "And please, you can call me Edith,"
~~~x~~~
Josef and Sabine strolled through Central Park arm in arm, passing a duck pond as they went. The park was fluttering with life: little girls playing hopscotch, children rolling hoops, nannies pushing baby carriages, couples walking together, and a policeman patrolling the area. Silently, he sent Josef and Sabine a pointed looked as if to wordlessly say, he's watching them.
"How did it go yesterday?" Josef asked, directing his attention towards Sabine. "Was it bad? You practically locked yourself in your room once you got back," he pointed out.
Sabine twirled her parasol, "No, actually it all went really splendid," she answered, smiling wistfully. "It was just a little overwhelming, as one could imagine. I needed some time to myself, that's all,"
"And did you tell Booker about your plan before you took off yesterday morning?"
Sabine shook her head, "Look, I came back in the afternoon and he wasn't there-" she started.
"Yes, because he was searching like a madman to find where you gone," Josef cut in, lightly chuckling.
The sound of a crack of the bat could be heard far off in the distance, a game of baseball was being played as spectators cheered in encouragement.
"I wrote down my sister's address and handed it to Nicky for when Bastien inevitably came back home," Sabine continued, tilting the parasol to shield her eyes more. "And he did," she finished.
"That must of been an interesting walk back home," he commented, with a grin.
"I told him, if he had nothing nice to say then I rather not hear him say anything," she replied. "I suggested he air his grievances elsewhere," she said.
"Oh, he did," Josef smiled, nodding his head.
"What did he say about me?"
"In short, he said what you did was rash, irresponsible, and above all else," he listed, lifting a finger in the air. "He was afraid that your expectations were set too high and that you would be heavily disappointed with what you found,"
"Aww," Sabine smiled. "Even when Bastien is angry with me, he still looks out for my best interests. It warms the heart," she said, giving her parasol another twirl.
"Of course he would, he does love you, you know," Josef replied.
"Yes, I know," she laughed softly.
"Now, I'm going to go that ice vendor to see if I can convince him to let me buy two lemon ices," Josef stated.
Sabine followed his stare to a plump, middle-aged man that had a straw boater on top of his dark hair. A handlebar mustache adorned his face and was waxed to perfection.
She looked back at Josef, "I bid thee good luck then," Sabine joked, as she unlinked her arm for his.
Shooting her a grin, he tilted his brown hat towards her before walking off to the vendor leaving her to her own devices. Sabine subtly rocked and forth on her feet, watching people moseying about on the promenade. She made the unfortunate mistake of making eye contact with an older woman who scowled at her almost instantly. Sabine averted hers eyes away and in the direction of little boys playing marbles, the last thing she needed was some old, white woman making a scene over a supposed slight against her.
Suddenly, a grimy hand gripped Sabine by the wrist and she whipped her head around.
It was a haggard man dressed in a tattered Union army uniform, his hair matted and she could see a wild look in his eyes.
"Spare a penny for a vet ma'am?" he asked, his gray irises boring into her.
Sabine glanced around in a futile effort for help, even if "help" did come, she would not be on the receiving end of it. She returned her stare towards the vet, her eyes widening when she realized the left sleeve to his soiled jacket did not house an arm in it, he was an amputee.
"I-I uh, don't have anything to spare, I'm sorry sir," Sabine said, trying to wrestle her wrist from his grip.
His grip tightened, "What do you mean you don't have change to spare?" he questioned, growing angry. "I fought for your people to be free and this is how you repay me!" he snapped.
"I'm sorry sir but I don't have anything to give," Sabine repeated, successfully snatching her wrist away.
The vet sneered, "Uppity negro bitch!" he spat, before hobbling away to beg elsewhere.
Sabine placed her hand on her chest to still her pounding heart, briefly closing her eyes and exhaling deeply.
"Look at what I got!" Josef cheered happily, his voice approaching her. "Two lemon ices, I think my Italian impressed the vendor, he's probably never seen a colored man that spoke the language fluently," he chuckled, as Sabine reopened her eyes. "It's not Delmonico's, the lucky bastards," Josef continued, referring to Nicky, Andy, and Bastien who were meeting someone that had work for them. "Sabine, are you alright?"
"Better now, I was accosted by a man-"
"Where is he?" Josef cut in, his expression turning serious.
Sabine closed her parasol and hanged it from her wrist, "Don't," she warned, taking the frozen treat from him and linking arms. "He's a homeless war vet and white, you're not going to win this fight," Sabine stated, patting his bicep.
"I was just goin-"
"No, what we're going to do is imagine all the meals we would be eating right now if we were allowed into Delmonico's," Sabine corrected, looking up at him expectantly. "I'll start, I want lamb chops, whole plates of them,"
Josef turned away from her and looked down the path in hopes of finding the assailant, but he was long gone, lost within the crowd of people.
Sabine tugged on his arm, "Indulge me, please," she said softly.
He sighed heavily and began leading her away, "I want a steak," he stated, making Sabine giggle. "A big, juicy steak,"
"And what would you have with that steak of yours?" she asked curiously.
"Oh, the creamiest mashed potatoes one could dream of,"
~~~x~~~
Within the time frame of less than a week, this evening marked the night that Sabine was going to meet the rest of her family. During her afternoon tea with her sister yesterday, Emile had told Sabine that her husband and son were both coming home today and she wanted her to meet them. Not to mention, Emile had also believed that enough time had passed that Mama had recovered from the shock of seeing Sabine, and they could be properly introduced now.
"Can you tie this?" Sabine asked, looking over her shoulder.
Her bedroom was illuminated by the few kerosene lamps that sat on top of her dressers. Sabine heard movement behind her before feeling fingers slowly trail down her back and began to lace up her corset.
"You never dress this way for me," Bastien complained.
She chuckled softly, "We don't go anywhere that I'd have to," Sabine pointed out, feeling him tug on her from behind. "Plus, you're dressed to the nines yourself," she reminded, glancing over her shoulder. "You never dress this way for me either," she added, wincing a bit when Bastien pulled the laces tight around her torso.
"Sorry," he apologized immediately, noticing her body tense. "I wish we could dress up more like this," Bastien stated, finishing his work.
"Technically, we could," Sabine responded, affixing a bustle to herself.
Bastien made his way towards her bed where her evening gown was laid out. The dress was green and made of silk taffeta, the neckline was round and the sleeves short. Making his way back towards her, Sabine raised her hands in the air as Bastien lifted it over her head, careful not to mess up her elegant updo. The dress slid on easily and a vast of silk fell onto the floor, covering her feet and trailing behind her.
"Yes, but I want to actually take you somewhere," Bastien said, buttoning the back of her dress. "I want to take you somewhere special, to show you off to the world, without all the stares and scowls," he finished, kissing Sabine's neck.
Sabine turned around and faced Bastien, "Like the two of us being able to sit together in box seats at the opera?" she hinted, with a slight chuckle as she smoothed the dress down around her undergarments.
"Sabine if I could, you know I would," he insisted, grasping her waist.
"I know, I know," Sabine replied, nodding her head understandingly. "This job is a 'whites only' type of a job, meaning Josef and I are out commission. While you three get to infiltrate high society and all the luxuries that come with it," she continued, lightly gripping onto the lapels of his tailcoat. "Have fun with all those stuffy, rich ofays," she wished, a smile peeking from her lips. "Josef and I will enjoy dinner with my family," she finished.
"About this dinner..."
Sabine looked downward, "You don't agree, I know," she said, finishing his sentence with a sigh.
"It's not that," Bastien corrected, lifting her chin to look at him. "I'm worried you're moving too fast, that you're losing yourself in the moment," he explained, enclosing his fingers around her biceps.
"Well of course I am," she agreed. "This is a second chance at being a family-"
"Sabine you're immortal," he interrupted softly, Sabine's mouth opened to argue. "Please let me finish," he requested. "You cannot recreate or rebuild the relationship you once had with your family," Bastien stated firmly, shaking his head.
She looked away from him, biting down her lip. Sabine felt her nose burn with the tears she was holding back from Bastien's bluntness.
"I can try," she countered, her voice cracking.
Bastien took her chin in his hand again and turned her face to him, "I'm sorry, Sabine. I'm so, so sorry, but you can't," he said, cupping her cheeks in both his palms.
"It's not fair," she choked, tears threatening to fall.
Bastien wrapped his arms around her, holding her head to his chest while he stroked her back.
"I know you want this reunion to be like a fairy tale, where you get your happily ever after," he began. "But we don't get those, and I'm sorry fate has chosen this path for you, because you don't deserve it Sabine. You don't," he finished, looking at her sadly.
Tears that she promised herself wouldn't show start to flow down her cheeks and he wiped them away with his thumbs. Sabine let her forehead rest against Bastien as he held her. She was sure Bastien could feel her crying. They stood in silence for several minutes, save for the occasional sniffle from her. When she shed her last tears, she removed her head from his chest slightly.
"I just want this so badly, Bastien," Sabine said, her voice above a whisper. "It's a bittersweet dream come true,"
"I know," he murmured, kissing her forehead.
Sabine sighed, resting her head on Bastien's heart, her grip tightening a little around him.
"I know I don't express my love verbally," she began, slowly bringing her gaze upwards to Bastien. "But I do love you, Bastien," Sabine stated. "And I'm grateful that you're being supportive towards me, even if you disagree," she finished.
Bastien let out a soft exhale, his eyes shining in such a way that Sabine never seen before. Cupping the back of her neck with his other hand, Bastien leaned down and placed a light kiss on Sabine's lips, so tender. The kiss was not deep, they only moved their lips against each other’s slowly. After a few more sweet kisses he pulled back once again to rest his forehead against hers.
He smiled warmly, "Say it again," Bastien said.
"I love you Bastien," Sabine repeated, softly grinning. She kissed him again on the lips. "I love you," she kissed him on his right cheek. "I love you," she kissed him on his left cheek. "I love you," Sabine stood on her tiptoes, kissing his nose and forehead. "I love you..." she whispered, capturing Bastien's lips once more.
Tilting her head, Sabine deepened the kiss and Bastien returned the gesture in equal vigor. His hand traveled from her neck and down to her waist, lightly wrapping around it. Slowly, they parted from one another and she stared into his blue orbs, seeing them gleam. Sabine wondered what it was about Bastien that made her feel this way, was it his loyalty, his compassion, or his devotion. Whatever it was, Sabine hoped that it would last forever for she had never been so happy, content, and in love than ever before.
"I will never get enough of you," Sabine said, nudging her nose against his with a contented hum.
"Neither will I," Bastien whispered, almost non-audible. "Now, go enjoy your dinner,"
~~~x~~~
Hearty laughter echoed in the dining room along with the clinking of utensils on dinner plates.
The first course, a soup of creamed mushroom, had been served and conversation at the Freemen table had flowed pleasantly, giving controversial topics a wide berth. Thankfully, Sabine and Josef were seated next to each other, putting her at ease that she was close to a familiar face. On her left, sat Jimmy, a charming young man. Sabine could tell he was a bit of a rake due to his constant double entendres that were just enough to remain both humorous and respectful. Despite all of that, she found herself feeling refreshed at his conversation. He talked of his various travels and the people he met with great excitement.
"Miss Jones," a booming voice called, causing Sabine to look up from the rim of her wine glass.
She met the eyes of her father, who sat at the head of the table. Fine, gray hair haloed his head, instead of the thick curls he had passed down to her. His face was lined with heavy wrinkles, an indicator of the hard life he had been through, but there was one thing about him that hadn't changed. It was his eyes. Those same kind eyes sparkled with spirit even though forty-four years had passed since she last seen them.
"Emile has been telling me that you're a ward to a white woman," he stated, just as the second course was being served.
A hush fell across the room, everyone's attention turned towards her awaiting her response.
Sabine briefly glanced at Josef, "Please, call me Edith, Mr. Freemen," Sabine said, placing her glass down onto the table. "And yes, it's true, I'm Mrs. Scott's charge," she answered.
Emile's husband, Lee, raised his eyebrows. "I'm curious as to why she would take a colored girl into her care," he said.
"Maybe she wants to relive the glory days," Jimmy suggested, before sipping from his wine.
"Jimmy!" Emile admonished, glaring at her son.
Sabine shook her head, "It's fine Emile, I wasn't offended," she reassured. "My parents died when I was very young, I believe sickness took them both," Sabine said.
"You poor child," Mama commented softly.
"I was in a orphanage when she found me," Sabine informed. "She was a lonely, childless, war widow and wanted a companion. I don't know what made her go to a colored orphanage, but I suppose it was just luck of the draw for me," she recounted. "She has treated me as if I were one of her own ever since, and for that I am grateful," Sabine finished, telling her "life story" to everyone.
"Quite the life you have lived," Papa said, Sabine only nodded in agreement. "What about you, Mr. Campbell?" He asked, turning his attention to Josef. "How did you come to meet Edith here?" he questioned.
"I'm the family doctor," Josef replied, sitting up in his chair. "Mrs. Scott knew how white doctors would treat Edith, or should I say, wouldn't treat her. So, Mrs. Scott employed me for my services," he explained.
"An excellent profession Mr. Campbell!" Jimmy cheered, sending a smile his way. "We need more colored doctors in America," he added.
"I've been meaning to ask Mr. Campbell," Emile began. "Are you from this country? I've seen hundreds of colored men and none look quite like you," she pointed out.
"No," Josef responded, shaking his head. "I'm from Africa,"
"The Motherland," Mama hummed, her lips curving upwards.
"What about that man you left with Edith? One of the maids noted he had a slight accent," Emile recalled.
"Oh, that's Mr. Greene," Sabine named. "He's French,"
"You have a white butler?" Jimmy asked, chuckling in amusement.
"Now that, would be a sight to see, but no, Mr. Greene is not our butler," Sabine clarified, laughing herself. "He's my guardian, a second pair of eyes for Mrs. Scott, if you will. He makes sure that I don't get myself into trouble," she explained, which wasn't a complete lie.
"You keep quite the company, don't you?" Lee asked, with a smile. "Anyone else noteworthy?"
"Well there's an Italian," Josef chimed in.
A slight laugh escaped Lee, "My god, all you need is a Chinaman and you all would make quite the colorful party," he said.
"We would, wouldn't we?" Sabine responded, joining in with his laughter. "That's actually why we moved from our previous home to New York," she stated. "Less stares here and easier to get lost in the crowd,"
"How long do you all plan on staying here?" Mama asked curiously.
"Just until the beginning of next year," Sabine answered. "Mrs. Scott wants to go Europe,"
"It seems we have no choice but to treasure every second we spend with you, Edith," Mama declared, smiling warmly at her.
Sabine grinned back, "I wouldn't have it any other way," she agreed.
"Plus, it would do you some good wouldn't it Edith?" Jimmy began. "Spending time with folks who look like you,"
"We'll be your home, away from home," Emile said. "A second family," she finished.
"Oh, if they only knew," Sabine thought.
Sabine picked up her wine glass, "Emile, words cannot describe how happy that would make me," she grinned, before raising her glass. "To the Freemen's!" she cheered.
"To the Freemen's!"
When Darcy is nine, she’s at a political parade watching from a hotel window (her little brother is sick so they stay in instead of going out to watch) and sees a running candidate shot in the chest. As it just so happens, the shooter is exactly opposite her window, and when he looks up he notices her. Nothing happens for a few days- her parents continue on their vacation and try to coddle her against what happened at the parade -and then she’s in a souvenir store along a popular strip of shops when a man crouches down next to her and she recognizes his face.
He doesn’t say anything, and she slowly hands him the squishy ball she was playing with a moment before. “You didn’t see anything,” he says, low and gravelly, and she nods in agreement, but he sees in her face it’s the fear pushing her now and he doesn’t think it will be enough later. With her little brother calling for her around the corner, he takes his knife and slides it into the soft part of her neck, quick as a bee sting, and then he’s gone, and she’s bleeding out on the floor.
As it so happens, there’s a vet in the store, and so they’re able to staunch the bleeding and she’s taken to the hospital, where the story leaks to her family and the police get involved. They’re then approached by witsec, who tells the family it’s best if they declare darcy as dead.
When Darcy wakes up, she’s in another hospital with vague memories of her family crying over her and a social service/witsec worker at her side. The woman tells her that for her safety, she has to stay away from her family for now (and when Darcy finally calms down and understands, she asks how long and there is no answer).
She goes to stay with a family within SHIELD but things are rocky from the get go and she can’t stop the anger and resentment that builds in her. The grief and lack of understanding over the loss of her family is overwhelming. In the end, the family contacts SHIELD because they’re afraid she might harm herself or blow their cover, and an older woman arrives with the SHIELD social worker (Angie Martinelli) who takes a personal interest in Darcy’s case.
Peggy Carter has more than a few grey hairs by the time she meets 9 year old Darcy Lewis, but she sees how alone Darcy is and can’t bring herself to just let SHIELD shuffle the child around to another house. She makes a promise with Darcy that one day she’ll be able to go back to her family, but until then Darcy can stay with her and they can keep each other company, because they’re both alone.
Darcy grows up in the Carter household with Peggy as a stand in for family, and thrives. Nothing could ever make her forget her true family, out there somewhere surely missing her as well, but she manages to hide that wound with her fondness for Peggy and Angie, who she learns to trust, and Sharon, who’s only a little older but very protective of Darcy.
Darcy finds her way to Culver as she grows older, and without letting Peggy know (though she suspects) looks up her bio family and keeps an eye on them. She grows restless with her schooling and Peggy catches her out with the spying and scolds her a bit. This is also when Peggy reveals that she has Alzheimer's but begs Darcy not to reach out to her family out of fear for her. Out of frustration and hopelessness, Darcy gets drunk and applies to Jane’s internship, and is accepted the next day
~*~*~*~
When Peggy dies, Darcy sits with Sharon at the funeral and spots Steve in the crowd. Darcy explains to Sharon how things have been with Jane since Thor left and how they’re looking for more investors and Sharon mentions SHIELD but Darcy gives that a hard pass. Sharon excuses herself to say hello to Steve and Darcy doesn’t approach them, too in her own feelings, and leaves quietly after saying goodbye to Angie.
~*~*~*~
Some time later, after Darcy has stood beside Jane through Thor and Dark World and since the Asgardian has left their life, Jane has been working with a smattering of other scientists to create a bridge to Asgard for herself. Darcy supports her boss in this endeavor if only to take a swing at the lunk herself, but they’ve fallen on hard financial times when an offer from an unknown source comes in, Jane accepts a meeting even though it’s under mysterious circumstances.
When Nakia is the one to meet them, clad in a gleaming coral suit and with tech Jane has never laid eyes on before, they’re intimidated, but knowing she comes from Wakanda and the offer to work with her and who she represents may be something that leads to a breakthrough for Jane, Darcy encourages the contract the Jane agrees.
~*~*~*~
Just days later, an airship picks them up with their meager belongings and Darcy and Jane are both impressed with the ride. Their escorts are not very talkative and they settle in for a long flight.
~*~*~*~
Landing is like the reveal of an oasis- Darcy can’t remember visiting a place as beautiful or lush as this. Of course Jane would rather head straight to the labs, lured by the promise of science, and the guards that escort them there introduce Shuri as a princess. Shuri waves that aside, unconcerned, and Jane launches into questions at the sight of her control board. Darcy phases out the conversation to wander the lab a bit.
A few weeks pass with Shuri and Darcy becoming fast friends. The Princess doesn’t need an assistant but enjoys showing off her work to Jane and the back and forth she and Darcy form. Darcy also starts a very onesided flirtation with a guard who looks like she could snap Darcy’s neck with the force of a glare, and Shuri loves to see Darcy falling all over herself in the process.
Jane doesn’t have much interest in meeting the king, which is an anomaly to Shuri but it amuses her and though sometimes their methods clash, it’s gratifying to find someone who can appreciate her level.
~*~*~*~
Eventually Darcy is wandering to the labs with Jane’s lunch one day and when she gets there she hears an unfamiliar voice talking with Shuri. She opens the door to find a bulky man standing with his back to her and a chill goes down her spine. Something doesn’t feel right. Almost like time has slowed for Darcy, she watches the man turn as Jane addresses her, and his face, placid and unconcerned, is something Darcy recalls from her nightmares.
She drops the food and apologizes, and stammering and in pain with hot soup soaking into her tights she flees the room. She makes it to the hallway before sinking to her knees and then Jane is at her side, trying to help her up, but she’s struggling, and then He’s there, lifting her up, tucking an arm under her legs even as she tries to stammer out ‘don’t’. Her breath is coming too quickly and even as Shuri directs them to the lab, realizing Darcy is having some sort of panic attack, Darcy blacks out. When she wakes she’s on the lab floor and Jane is leaning over her. A shawl is under her head- His shawl- and she feels like her body’s just been slapped with a cold sweat.
Jane chastises her for scaring them and Shuri, quiet and a little more keen to what might have happened, asks if Darcy is feeling better and helps her sit up to drink some water. Darcy says she is, she doesn’t know what happened, and Jane says maybe she’s sick- has she been overworking her? She knows she doesn’t give her vacation time but she always figured Darcy would tell her if she needed anything…
Darcy reassures her she’s fine and Shuri says they can schedule her a check up, just in case. Darcy agrees halfheartedly, just wanting the conversation to be over, and says she thinks she has to go lie down for a bit. The two scientists watch her leave with very differing opinions of what just happened.
~*~*~*~
Darcy shuts the door to her room and locks it, then strip her clothes and huddles in the shower. She tries to convince herself it’s not possible, how could it be him, he looked exactly the same and it was years ago, but her gut tells her otherwise. Paranoid, she leaves the shower in a bathrobe and hops on her computer, searching out her family again and relieved to find them still functioning as usual- credit cards are still making purchases, her brother’s still logging into his instagram. She then shuts her laptop and tells herself she can’t do that again until she knows for sure who this guy is and why he looks so much like the man who tried to kill her as a child.
Note
pardon my ignorance but I've never really been around horses, how do they... show personality? I mean what makes a horse a sweetheart or something? I'm just really curious and a lil confused haha
No worries, Anon! Fair warning though, you instigated a long and rambling reply here, haha.
I’d call almost any horse sweet, to be honest. They can just be such wonderfully goofy, charming, and delightful creatures. There are of course a few that can be downright dangerous and mean (there’s usually some history of trauma or health-related issues going on in those cases *edit: or too much testosterone, lol) and some definitely have bad habits though, like one gelding I met last month while looking for a friend for Sandy. I walked him around the arena a couple of times and came out of it with four “love bite” bruises that lasted for ages and were sore as shit. Still have a little scar on my shoulder where one broke the skin. He wasn’t being malicious about it, just using his mouth to check me out like a child using their hands to investigate something new, but their teeth can definitely cause damage even when they don’t mean too (I’ve still got a knot in one knuckle where Sandy bit me on accident about a decade ago; I heard a crunch and a “pop” and was sure my finger was gone, haha). That can often be trained out of them but I just didn’t want him gnawing on Sandy. But he had a nice temperament and I’d still say he was a sweet old guy—just a tad on the mouthy side, haha.
Horses are just like any other animals (including people!) though—they each have their own unique personalities. Some are extroverts and some are introverts. Some are leaders and some are followers. Some are more laid-back and sedate while others are more high-strung and flighty. Some take life very seriously, others are more playful and mischievous. Some are filled with endless energy and love nothing more than to run. My Mom had a gelding when she was a teenager named "Go-Boy" for this very reason—he loved to run and never wanted to stop. And then others are just more into naps and chilling which I can totally relate to, haha.
There are some special ones who may be a combination of any of the above but they are also just as gentle and yes, "sweet," as can be. They want to be around you and seem pleased to see you, whether or not you have a feed bucket in hand or treats in your pocket. They are curious to see what you are up to and just seem happy to be in your presence.
Of course training and an animal's history can make an impact on their behavior and shape them to a degree but each individual animal will still be unique and have their own one-of-a-kind personalities.
Sandy is a very no-nonsense sort of mare. Her main focus in life is food. When I brought Bo home she immediately started nibbling and nuzzling on him like a mare with a foal and she led him all around the pasture, showed him the barn, and took him to meet Doc and Abraham, the geldings next door. But then that evening as soon as she saw me coming with the feed bucket she pinned her ears at him and wouldn’t let him get near the feeding area. She’s mostly gotten over the feeding time drama now but yeah, just don’t mess with her food and she’ll be a sweetheart, haha.
Russell was a big, goofy, baby. He weighed around 1500 lbs in his prime but if something scared him he’d run and hide behind little old Sandy. I’d give them a bit of watermelon once in a while as a special treat and while Sandy would always just rip hers apart and eat it all, Russell would very daintily use his teeth to scrape all the meat out then leave the rind behind (which Sandy would chomp up). And in the end, even with all the times I had to give him medication and stick him with needles and harass him with visit after visit from vets, still on that last day he laid down and felt safe enough for me hold his head in my lap while he napped for a long time. He was most definitely a sweet, special boy and I still feel like part of me is missing with him gone.
I'm still learning Bo's personality. He's just a youngster in a new place after all so he’s still settling in and also in the process of evolving into what he'll be like as an adult. Like humans, an animal’s life experiences mold their personalities over time. But even with all the overworking and untreated health issues he’s had going on for who knows how long he still doesn't lash out or run away when I have to give him his medication.
He’s definitely a playful little guy though. The other evening I watched him chomp down on their jolly ball (a heavy-duty, basketball-sized rubber ball with a handle on it for horses to play with) and take off galloping across the pasture with it between his teeth. I have yet to find it, haha. He loves knocking their rubber feed buckets off the fence to play with them too.
So yeah, long and very rambling way of saying horses are really cool critters with big and beautiful personalities. <3 Hope that helps answer your question, Anon!
Reunion
Since some were so interested in the story of King Ghidorah and their human Eva, this is their story. Please, enjoy (also give me feedback as I don’t usually write stories ^^)
A King Ghidorah fanfiction
Dorat AU
„Wake up. Come on Ni, wake up boy. Time for walkies!“ A soft voice rings through the air, tickling Ni's ear. The Dorat stirs, sleepily opening one eye and looking around the living room. “Come on Ni-Ni! Don't you want to go outside?” His gaze falls upon a young human girl, standing by the door, hastily putting on her shoes and leashes on two other Dorats like him. His brothers watch him, waiting for him to move. Ni yawns, stretching his golden wings and climbs off the comfortable couch he was sleeping on, trotting over to his master.
She smiles, putting a red collar and leash on the third Dorat, giving him a pet on his fluffy head. “Good boy. Lets go!”
It's a sunny day today, the air is crisp and fresh. It's spring! Eva, their little master, loves this season the most. And they love seeing her happy.
The walk is the same as always. Passing by the same houses, going down the same streets, towards the park.
The park is great. It's big, big enough to stretch their wings and fly around all they want and play.
San, the youngest Dorat loves visiting the park. He's always so eager, flapping up and down, back and forth, almost crashing into his brothers and trilling happily.
Unlike their older brother Ichi, who glides gracefully through the air, looking down on all the passerby.
At the park, Eva lets her Dorats fly free and unzips her backpack, pulling out their toys, a blanket and some drinks and snacks.
Everything is great. They play, enjoy the sunshine and food. Master brought those fish crackers they like.
Ni is chasing another Dorat, a brown one, around the park. That one dared to take a toy! That thief! That one will pay!
A shriek pierces the air, disrupting the chase. Perplexed, Ni looks back. Master?
He watches in horror as a dog, a filthy beast, is attacking Eva. That thing dares to harm HIS MASTER?!
In a rage Ni races towards that monster, flying as fast as he can, not stopping for a second. He doesn't even notice Ichi and San also trying to get in between the girl and the dog.
Ni crashes into the foul beast, bearing his teeth and snarling. The thing yelps, rolling on the ground after the collision. The Dorat, though a bit smaller than the wild dog, put himself between the animal and the girl.
San and Ichi stay with Eva, hissing and screeching angrily, not moving from her side as she weeps and cries in pain, a puddle of blood already forming around her leg on the ground.
Ni growls, daring the dog to move. Do it! Come on! I'll tear you limp from limp!
Not that the dog would have understood it anyway.
In a flash the animal was upon Ni, biting and snapping at him. But Ni isn't afraid. All he sees is red. He bites and claws at it, chomping down on the beasts neck and shaking violently. Ni himself gets thrown around, bitten and scratched. It doesn't matter. He doesn't even feel it. Ni snaps at the soft neck of his opponent, biting and shaking him over and over. The dog screams, letting go of the smaller Dorat and jumps back. In a defiant stance, Ni stays between it and the girl. He growls. And finally his enemy yields and runs.
“NI! OH MY GOD! NIII!! NO!”
Ni turns, Eva approaches him with a limp and she wraps her arms around him.
“Ni! You're hurt! Oh my god, your ear! Your eye!”
A few hours later, Ni wakes up again. Was it a dream? He is in his bed, but something is blocking his view. Why can't he open his left eye? What is that thing?
“Be still, brother. Don't move. You need to heal.” Who is that? Oh, right. It's Ichi. Ichi looks down from his spot at the wall. He likes sitting there. San comes rushing to Ni's side, gently grooming him in a comforting manner. “Are you ok? That fight was really bad! You were lucky you didn't lose your eye, Ni!”
Fight? Oh, yes. Right. That dog. But, what about Eva? Is she ok? Ni looks around the bedroom, trying to see past that weird, round thing around his head. There she is. On the bed. “Ni. You're awake? I'm so glad you're ok!” She smiles, walking towards him and petting him, carefully stroking his back fur.
“The vet said you were really lucky! That dog almost got your eye with it's teeth. But your ear wasn't as lucky, half of it is missing.... Oh Ni, you were so brave! Thank you! I was so scared!”
She quivers, wiping off the tears from her soft, round face.
“You're my hero!”
Ni, not wanting to see her cry leans into her small hand and purrs reassuringly.
“You were hurt.” “It's ok, my leg is better now. Don't worry, everything is ok now. See?” She grins, showing hims her bandaged leg. “Rest now. You'll get a big treat later, ok? You're a good boy, Ni. I love you”
I love you
I love you
I love you....
Ni groans, opening his eyes and stretching his long, powerful neck. Groggily he looks around, spotting his brothers by his side. They've curled up around each other, still sleeping.
As always. Ni, first one to wake up and last one to fall asleep. He hates sleeping. Not sure when it started, but it's been a long time. Sleep brings dreams, memories he'd rather not see.
And now he has to wait for Ichi and San to wake. He sighs, keeping look out. Ni isn't known for being the patient one, but he can be. Not that he has much of a choice. It's not like he could just, get up and walk around. Not anymore. He could wake Ichi. A good bunt in the head would do. But that would also mean getting bit in the snout and right now he wasn't in the mood for a fight. Usually, yeah. But not right now.
His mood was too sour for that.
“Good morning Ni!” San has risen from his slumber and yawns, stretching and rubbing his head against his big brother in a greeting. “Did you sleep well?” Ni sighs. “Same as usual. You?” “Uhm.... I guess so. Got enough sleep at least.”
Ni wasn't the only one plagued by bad memories. San's weren't just memories. They were nightmares. Nightmares that had happened.
Sometimes the youngest brother would wake up screaming and thrashing during the night, begging to be “let out” and biting if you came too close. Ichi and Ni would have to subdue him together, just until the left head would calm down again.
Poor guy had been through a lot. They all have been. But it seems fate has been more cruel to the younger one. He had lost his head, quite literally, many times. Each time he lost more and more of his happy go lucky attitude, if only slowly.
But since that fat lizard had ripped him off last.... They know the memories. They weren't there, but San shared what had happened to him with them, after they reformed that last time.
Last time.... Was the worst. Things are a bit confusing, since they regenerated from a dead head, from a brain that had been dead for some time. They knew their old version had fought on, but their memories stopped after San's death, only to resurface once the humans did something to his brain, feeding him with the energy needed to come back to life.
They know of the pain and fear San had endured, being nothing but a thought in his own mind. Again. Again humans tried to control them, their minds, making them their toys!
But San didn't share everything with them, that they knew... Or they would know of the things he dreamed about and woke from, screaming for help.
They also heard what had happened to their old self. That that one was completely destroyed by the “King” of the monsters, with the help of his Queen.
It is weird to know that you did something, without being there yourself... Never before have they been.... two Ghidorahs. Can they even call it that? Are they themselves even real? Or just a copy?
They know each time a head dies, it grows back with all it's memories. But there had never been a time where.... They had to regenerate their whole being. Until now....
Ichi wakes, shifting and yawning before looking at San and Ni.
“How long have you two been awake?” “Oh hey Ichi, good morning. Not long yet. How was your night?” San smiles at the middle head, greeting him like he greeted Ni with a head rub.
“Luckily, uneventful. Full night rests have become rare” “Yeah.... sorry about that.” “Don't be, San. It's not your fault... Well, now that we're up, let's get out of here. I need some fresh air.”
With that, Ghidorah rose to their feet and walked out of the cave they had carved themselves some time ago. After they had regenerated, they had traveled the world for a while, not knowing what to do with themselves. They were thinking of going after Godzilla again, but..... They were just tired. So they made themselves a small home, if you could call it that, on monster island. They had made an agreement with Godzilla. While they would never yield and submit to him, they promised to stay out of his way and leave the humans alone. As long as they didn't destroy anything, they could be at piece.
Or at least by left alone. And the other Titans did leave them alone.
Wherever they went, the other Kaiju would run and hide. No one dared to try and talk with them.
Except for Godzilla, who would sometimes pass by and check if they still hold their part of the deal.
Sometimes Rodan would come and try to talk with them. That firebird is a huge chatterbox.
Right now Ghidorah made their way down the mountain they had made their cave in, living high above the others, where they had a good view over the island.
“Brothers, look there. A boat” Ni and Ichi look towards the sea, where San was pointing at. “Ugh, humans.... Those pests. They better not think about stepping on this island!” “Calm down brother. What do we care what they do? As long as they leave us alone, I don't give a crap.” Ichi snorts, moving their body down and to the other side of the mountain.
They walk towards a lake and San has a little drink. They don't really NEED to drink and eat, but it's a nice treat and it gives them something to do. One of the few things they can still enjoy, since destroying and conquering is now off the table. At least for now.
Ni looks at his reflection. It's him. But it's also not.
Gone is the round face and the big eyes, gone is the little snout and ears. Gone is the fur on his head and back.
Instead there is a long, strong snout, filled with rows of sharp teeth. His eyes are beady and red and his head adorned with jagged horns, sharp and deadly. Everything on them is sharp and deadly.
But the scar is still there.
He remembers, like in his dream. The scar that made him unique, a hero in that little girl's eyes.
But she's gone now, long dead.
Why is the scar still there? They can heal. And it was gone. But he made it again. For some reason, even though he wants to forget.... He scars himself over and over again, each time it heals, he takes one of their spiked tails to his face and draws blood. He's done it many time, he knows exactly where to cut, how to cut it. Each time a perfect copy.
And his horn. The second horn on the left, he always breaks it off. Where half his ear used to be.
Ichi keeps a look out, watching the smaller kaiju hiding in the shadows of the trees, waiting for them to leave and have a drink.
As they should. Useless lot, they are beneath them. Look at them quivering, shaken to their very core by their fear, Ghidorah's presence almost crushing them like little worms.
Ichi has always enjoyed looking down on others. Since he was a cup, he'd find the highest places and sit there, watching the others. He's always been more cruel than his brothers, that's just who he is. Not that he doesn't know how to be compassionate. He loves his brothers.
Sure, he reprimands them often, especially Ni, as he likes to act up and square off with Ichi.
But he still cares. And he'd do anything to protect them.
Once he cared for someone else. A little someone, though bigger than them at the time, but so small and fragile.
Somehow she made him want to protect her. To love her. And he did. He loved and protected and cared and vowed to stay forever-.... Until forever was over.
Gone were the good days, the days filled with happiness and love and care. Replaced with fear and pain and numbness instead.
They were like her. But they were not like her. Not soft and sweet and loving and warm. No high voices carrying nothing but goodness to his ear but instead, cries and screams and yells of malice and horror and the stench of rotting flesh and dry blood.
Their new “masters” were nothing like her. They never gave them the feeling of being safe. Only fear. Only pain. Only rage!
And then.... Nothing. Sleep without dreams, dreams without sleeping. Moving but unmoving.
Pain but no feeling.
And then they woke up. They woke at a cold place, nothing but ice and piercing cold and blinding white. No humans in sight. No... Her..... Alone. They were alone. And they were one.
They knew they were, have been for long. But now that they were awake, it was strange. Having to learn how to move again.
And the urge.... The urge to.... kill... destroy.... It was ebbed into their mind so deep, into their very core.... All they could think about was “Find Godilla. Kill him. Destroy him. Kill. Destroy. Kill. Destroy. Destroy. Destroy. Destroy. Destroy. Destroy destroy destroy destroydestroydestroyde-....”
The thought was still there, once jackhammering in their head, now a soft drumming... They had found Godzilla. But that one was not the same they knew now. That one fought long and hard, made them weak and trapped them in the ice, where they had awoken the first time. And they slept.
And now.... The same thing. They found Godzilla, a different one, fought and lost again. Were killed this time and somehow they came back.
You'd think knowing that you were able to cheat death like this would make you stronger, would make you want to try again.... And maybe they will, one day. But now they're just tired....
“Hello?.... Are you there?” They look up. “Yes? What is it?” San looks to Ichi. “I didn't call you.” They look at Ni. “Wasn't me” “Can you hear me?”
Confused they look around. Was it one of them? One of the small ones hiding in the shadows?
“What do you want?” Ichi growls at the trees and the little kaiju skitter away quickly.
“It's me. I'm here.”
“Who the fuck is calling us?! Who is it?” They stand and Ni snarls and snaps at nothing.
“Come to me. I'm here. Are you there?”
“What the fuck?” Ichi grows more and more irritated, looking around but seeing no one.
“Come find me. Were you waiting?”
“Ichi.... I think it's coming from there.” San points back at the ocean again. Is it a water Titan? Manda perhaps?
“I swear if that snake is out making a fool of us then we'll have it for breakfast!”
“Good idea Ichi, sound delicious!”
They follow the voice, down to the shore. They don't see Manda, but the human boat is still there.
“Ohoh, it's the humans! It must be them. Of course. Why am I not surprised?”
“Wouldn't be the first time, Ni.” “Should we kill them?” “We can't, Godzilla-” “I know San, I know! But he never said we can't defend ourselves. If they try to attack us, it's free game!”
“My sweets....” They freeze. What did they just call them? No one ever called them that but-... No. No, she's gone.
“Can't you hear me? Please answer me. Remember our promise? I promised I'd come find you”
No... No, no no no, no! It's not true! This is a trick! They are tricking us!
San leans closer, looking down at the boat and the humans on board.
“Ichi... Ni... San.... Do you remember me?”
They stare. They stare at the human woman with the dark hair and eyes. The eyes they know, the eyes they only see in their dreams.
“It's her!” Sam rears ups, shocked and confused. It's her. She's back! She's come!
“Ichi, Ni, it's her! It's her! Master!” “NO! Get a grip San, it isn't!” Ichi roars, staring down at San. “This is a trick, clearly!”
“But-”
Ichi doesn't believe, doesn't trust. Ni wants to believe, wants to trust. San believes, San trusts.
San bends down again, trying to reach the boat, he needs to see her, smell her, touch her. “Master!”
“NO!” Ichi snaps, he grabs San by the scruff of his neck and pulls him away. They stagger, their body, twitching. The heads fight.
Middle tries to dominate left, biting and power grooming him into submission. Usually San would yield, but not this time. He rises, roaring at his brother in fury.
“STOP IT ICHI! It is her, I know it!”
“IT CAN'T BE SAN, SHE IS DEAD!” They are torn apart, feeling an array of feelings.
Yes! No! Want! Don't! Believe! Fear! Trust! Rage! Can't be! It is!
“STOP!!”
They stop. Ichi and San look at Ni. He glares at them. Is this what happens when they see a glint of what had been? It tears them apart just like this? How weak have they become, how low have they fallen?
“Brothers.... Please.... Who else could talk with us like that?” San pleads at Ichi and Ni, lowering his head. His eyes displaying nothing but sadness.
“Our connection is still there... After all this time, all those years our link is still strong. Who else but her could speak with us? Who else knows the names she gave us?”
All three heads turn to look back at the boat. The humans, pointing their weak little weapons at them, stare, waiting for them to move.
Except the woman. She stands at the railing, tears in her eyes, her face contorted as if in pain.
“Please, don't fight... I'm sorry... I'm so sorry. I couldn't protect you. I promised you, remember? That I would find you, no matter what. I said I would come. And I am here now, my sweets.... Please forgive me....”
She cries. No humans ever cried for them but....
“Eva...?”
Her head snaps back up so fast, you could almost hear it crack. Ghidorah leans down towards the boat, all three heads until their noses almost touch it.
They look at her. The face, the scar of the dog bite on her leg. The way she smiles. They smell her.
Like spring. She smells like spring. Like her favorite season. And fish crackers. She reaches out, placing her soft, small hand on Ichi's snout and smiles that smile that sings of love and happy memories.
“I'm sorry.... Did you wait long?”
Request by @hermionie-is-my-queen: Hey! Not necessarily a request, and kind of a scenario proposal: but imagine aizawa and reader adopted a cat a while back together, and the cat gets sick, or has to be put down, and it’s just some comforting fluff? Idk if this falls into the category of no angst so if it does instead maybe visiting a shelter to adopt a new kitty? Tysm anyway! Soft aizawa and soft kitties are my fav
A/N: Yes, yes, and yes! I am so in love with this whole idea. I took a little bit of inspiration from the English voice actor’s Tik Tok and from where I live for this one. School just started back up, too, so I’ll now be taking a bit longer to reply to requests. Sorry! Anyways, I really hope you enjoy it!
♥*♥*♥*♥*♥*♥*♥*♥*♥*♥*♥*♥*♥
It had only been a month. One month ago, you lost your precious siamese cat, Willow. Your boyfriend, Shouta Aizawa, had given her to you once you moved into your first apartment together. She was a gift that kept on giving, whether it was hairballs or purrs. She kept you company through the day while your boyfriend was teaching his students, and you both would welcome him home with kisses and cuddles every day.
Aizawa loved Willow just as much as you did. You were both the lights in his life, and without you, he would feel incomplete. After the worst days at U.A., he could come home and feel at peace due to the loves of his life. It tore him up inside that Willow was gone, but he knew the loss broke you apart even worse than it did him.
He adopted Willow when she was 11. The shelter he went to, usually just to browse, was going to put her down just because of her age. Aizawa formed a bond when he looked into her ocean blue eyes. He knew that she would be perfect not only for him but for you as well. In a matter of minutes, the adoption papers were signed and finalized. A beautiful forest green bow was placed around her neck, and she was on her way to meet the better half of her new owner. The three of you were inseparable when home. Midnight cuddles and afternoon snacks were always a favorite among your little family. Despite you and Aizawa never talking about kids in your future, you felt like Willow was your daughter. It was true perfection and bliss. Sadly, it couldn’t last forever.
When Willow turned 13, she started acting strange. She began hiding around the house more, throwing up whenever she ate, and losing an excessive amount of weight. You decided a check-up was in order, and Aizawa whole-heartedly agreed. Praying for a fluke incident was what you did, but deep down, you knew that wasn’t going to be the case no matter how much you wished it to be. Her vet told you both that she had cancer and wouldn’t live much longer. This caused your world to come spiraling down.
How someone handles the five stages of grief depends on the person. For you, Willow was absolutely fine. You were in absolute denial. Over the two years you and Aizawa raised her, she was always healthy. There was absolutely no way that she could have cancer. Healthy cats don’t get cancer, right? You went about your life with Willow as if everything was normal. Aizawa tried to knock some sense into you, but you blocked it out. A week later, a certain piece of information triggered the second stage of grief.
Aizawa told you that he would be staying home to take care of Willow with you, since she was living her final weeks. Saying you were furious would be an understatement. You took your boyfriend onto the balcony and yelled at him for 15 minutes about how Willow was completely normal. You told him that everything was fine and that she would live longer than what the vet said. Seeing you were too stubborn to change, Aizawa refused talking to you about the matter but still took those extra days off. It lasted like this another week before another trip to the vet.
Once you got home that night, you found yourself on your knees next to the bed. You were praying to whatever deity was in the sky or under the ground to save Willow. You didn’t know if bargaining with the immortal was a sane idea, but you had entered the third stage. Aizawa watched you do this every hour of the day, it seemed. He heard you muttering to yourself in your sleep, begging for Willow’s safety. None of this worked, though. Two weeks after the visit, Willow was back at the vet to be put down for good.
The last month had gone by agonizingly slow. Your boyfriend was back at work, leaving you alone to your own devices. The depression had been the longest stage. You wondered to yourself if you would ever get to the acceptance part of the five stages. Nothing you did to try and clear your mind worked. You tried to write, draw, sing, and dance, but nothing seemed successful. Most days, you were confined to your side of your shared bed, sobbing your eyes out until they looked unusually red and puffy.
Losing an animal shouldn’t hurt this much. You had a cat when you were younger, and when she was put down, you were only upset for a week before understanding it was time to move on. Why did losing Willow hurt so much. The question plagued you day and night. You racked your brain trying to figure out why this pain wouldn’t subside. Why did it sting so badly? Why did the tears keep falling?
When you were starting dinner one evening, your boyfriend came home. He seemed to be in a good mood, which was strange for someone like him. He came around, gave you a quick peck on the cheek, and leaned against the counter next to the stove.
“How was your day, babe?” you asked, mustering up as much fake happiness as possible.
You flashed your lover a quick smile, hoping it hid the pain better than you thought it did. However, you had been dating this man for 3 years. He knew you all too well. Willow’s death had affected you so much, which caused him to mull over it for longer than expected. An animal’s death was, of course, sad, but people usually got over it quickly. Why was it taking you longer?
“Are you alright?” your boyfriend questioned, placing a hand on your upper arm.
Sighing, you answered, “Of course I am.”
“No, you’re not.”
“Yes, I am.”
You both began a waltz to avoid each other. You stood on the opposite side of the island, setting the places on the table for the both of you to eat. Right as Aizawa met you, you sauntered off back to the stove to turn off the burner. It went on like this for much longer while your words went at each other.
“No, you’re not.”
“Yes, I am.”
“(y/n)...you’re not.”
“Just shut up, ok?”
“Listen to me...”
“SHUT UP!”
Suddenly, a bright flash of lightning struck outside. The deafening boom from the sky sounded next. In a matter of seconds, a downpour began outside and inside the apartment. Your eyes were filled to the brim with tears. Aizawa froze, giving you time to finally realize why Willow’s death meant so much to you. It was right in front of you the whole time, but your ignorance caused blindness. Just as your boyfriend began to approach you, the tears and truth spilled over.
“She was like our baby,” you began. “Once I moved in with you, I was so scared that you would break up with me. Willow brought us together. No matter what had happened on a bad day, she would fix us back up. It’s like I lost a part of our relationship, Shouta.”
Aizawa was shocked to say the least. In actuality, Aizawa was completely caught off by your statement. He never knew you felt this way about Willow. He knew you had developed a close bond with the feline, but he should’ve noticed sooner the parental role you took for her. He felt like a terrible boyfriend. He felt like he should’ve found a way to keep Willow alive longer. He felt like her death was his fault.
“(y/n), I’m sorry I should’ve--”
“Meow.”
Both of you came to your senses. Did you really just hear a meow? Had Willow come out of her grave to come back to you both? Aizawa looked at you, causing your tears to stop for a moment. Another flash of lightning struck, followed by the familiar thunder. Then, you heard it again.
“Meeeeow.”
Your brain was going crazy. You were already running on endorphins due to the sudden outburst you had at your lover. Now, you felt your fight or flight responses kick in. There’s no way there was a cat at your apartment. Sure, you lived in an area where an animal could get lost, but a stray cat would never be near your complex.
“Meow.”
Taking a deep breath in, you tried to calm your nerves. Silently cursing your boyfriend’s senses, you heard him shuffling over to you. He placed his hands on your hips and kissed your forehead. Aizawa felt guilty. He knew that a cat wouldn’t be outside in this weather, especially if it was a stray. It was just his mind playing tricks on him. His guilty conscience was in full force, or maybe it wasn’t?
“Meeeeow.”
“Ok,” you said, slowly tilting your head up to meet your boyfriend’s gaze. “Please tell me you’re hearing the meowing, too.”
“It’s real?” Aizawa asked, gazing at you with confused eyes.
Shaking your head, you slithered out of his arms. Despite your mind telling you this was a bad idea, you decided to stick with your sudden plan. You were going to check outside. You didn’t know what you would find, but it was worth the risk. Wherever this cat was, you had to find it. You weren’t doing this for you, however, but for Willow.
Placing your hand on the front door knob, you unlocked it and slowly opened it just a little bit. That’s when you saw it. A beautiful tabby cat sat on your front mat, meowing to its heart’s content. It was drenched, laying against the door in search of some warmth. The poor little angel was shivering, but it looked up upon sensing your presence.
“Well, hello there,” you greeted, opening the door wider.
“Meeeeow.”
You bent down and sat on your knees, cooing the little creature forward. Taking your invitation, it sauntered over to you. Once your hand made contact with its back, the cat began rubbing its wet body all over your leg. Laughing slightly, you turned to look at Aizawa.
He was staring at you with true adoration in his eyes. He knew from the moment he met you that you were the one, but this tender moment between you and a stray cat solidified that even more. It was perfect. You were perfect. Despite the past month, he realized what this new stray would mean to you immediately. Willow sent him or her as a gift from heaven. That much had to be true. It was her way of saying that everything would be alright.
“I’ll get some food and water for the little one,” Aizawa said, walking over to first close the door.
“Make sure to get a towel first,” you replied. “I don’t want this poor baby getting sick from being to cold. Right, sweetie?”
The cat gazed at you with thankfulness in its eyes. You felt much different than you had just a few minutes ago. You were no longer sad about Willow. Instead, you were happy her pain had ended when it did, even if it wasn’t in the best way. Somehow, this little stray just happened to choose your doorstep. Your heart was starting to feel whole again. That’s how you came to a simple conclusion: this was fate. The stage of acceptance was finally in your sight.
You and Aizawa resumed your waltz around the kitchen, but this time, things were much different. It felt like the day Aizawa first brought Willow home. You immediately took on the role of the parent, watching your new friend’s every move to make sure it didn’t hurt itself. Once Aizawa brought you a towel, you sat on the couch and began drying off the cat. You discovered during this that you had found an adorable little boy, proud and frisky from his recent adventure.
Aizawa set the food and water out, luring the tabby out of your lap and to the kitchen. He lapped everything greedily, only further confirming that this was indeed a stray. Walking over to your boyfriend, you stopped once you reached his side.
“I’m sorry,” you began, lacing your fingers with his.
“Oh, don’t be,” he replied, smoothly changing the position you both were in so he could snuggle your neck. “I should’ve taken off time from work and been there for you. It was wrong of me to think our lives would go back to normal.”
“But, still..”
“(y/n)...just let me hold you.”
You did what he asked. You let him wrap his arms around you as you both watched your new boy. Unspoken between the two of you was what was going to happen with your newfound cat: you were going to keep him. Of course, he would need to pay for his shots, a proper bath, and new amenities, but that was a thing for the future. Aizawa knew you would bring it up tomorrow morning, worrying about it profusely, and you knew Aizawa would tell you to stop worrying so much, peppering your face in kisses as a distraction.
Once the cat was finished eating, he walked over and began rubbing himself against Aizawa’s leg. Realizing he needed to be warmed up, you reached down and picked him up. He clearly enjoyed being showered in attention and didn’t pull away when you both began talking to him.
“What do you think?” Aizawa questioned.
You knew what he was talking about: his name. Despite only finding this cat outside of your doorstep 20 minutes ago, you both knew this was his new forever home. The name was an important part of claiming a pet, which you made sure to educate Aizawa about before naming Willow. This, however, wasn’t a tough decision like Willow’s name.
“I was thinking Thunder,” you replied softly, gazing into your lover’s eyes.
He hummed in response, alerting you that he liked that name. You purposely chose that name due to the circumstances you found him in, but you also had an ulterior motive. You eventually wanted to get another cat and name it Lightning. Why? Easy answer: why not?
Suddenly, your boyfriend let go of your waist. Turning around, you noticed he began walking off to the bedroom. It was only 7:30, but, of course, your lover was already exhausted. That was one of the qualities you loved about him, though. He could always fall asleep easily.
“You didn’t eat dinner,” you called after him.
“I know,” he replied in a low voice, “but wouldn’t you rather fall asleep with the man you love?”
His words made you blush, but he wasn’t wrong. With Thunder in your arms and dinner long forgotten, you made your way over to your bedroom. Upon entering, you saw your boyfriend was already laying down and waiting for you to join him. You placed Thunder on the bed and went to lay down next to your lover. He placed his arms around you, making you fell safe and secure before someone interrupted you both.
Thunder began slowly crawling up to lie in between you. Chuckling, Aizawa left a little bit of room between your bodies for your new baby to curl up between you both. It felt natural. It felt like home again. It was just you, your boyfriend, and your cat. Willow, you could tell, was smiling down from heaven. You knew she could be fully at peace now knowing you were happy.
“I love you so much,” you mumbled to your boyfriend, allowing your eyes to close.
“I love you, too, kitten,” Aizawa replied, drifting off to sleep and allowing your breaths to match one another.
This was home. This was family. This was perfection for the both of you. Now, Aizawa went to bed with a single question on his mind. It was quite simple but also heavy. When was he going to place that wonderful ring on your finger?
Book of Nile: Werewolf and Witch AU
Tumblr media
Alright, yes, I’m late for Halloween. But that also means I used Halloween to discuss an awesome AU where Booker is secretly an werewolf and Nile, his new neighbor in a rural town on the edge of the woods, is secretly a witch. Shoutout to @lady-writes @winterequinoxx @nevermindirah @highlightcity159 @druidspell @rainofdreams29 @ruby-white-rabbit and the BoN chat for this amazing brainstorm.
Nile has just graduated from veterinary school after her time in the marines. She’s moved to a rural area in the northeast that’s in need for a vet since the old one plans to eventually retire. Renting a cute little cottage on the edge of the woods, she settles into a quiet life there.
Nile does her daily runs on the trails through the idyllic woods in the mornings and sometimes at night. She gets to know the townspeople as well. They include  Andy, who runs a law firm in the town. Along with her wife Quynh, who is an interior decorator. Couple Yusuf and Nicolò run the coffeeshop/bakery across the  street from the veterinary practice where Nile works. They get to know Nile first since she swings by the shop every morning for breakfast. Soon, they start inviting Nile to dinner with them. It then eventually expands to dinner with Andy, Quynh and Booker. It’s the first time Nile meets Booker and he reveals he’s also her next-door neighbor. She’s surprised that she hasn’t met him yet. After all, she moved into the the town weeks ago.
Booker is apparently the only single person among Andy, Quynh, Yusuf and  Nicolò. So Nile suspects the group is trying to set them up to date since they always seat her next to him. Booker’s nice enough (and pretty damn good looking). But he also seems distant towards her. While she’s fine with his company at dinner, there’s not really a huge connection there for her. However, they settle into a steady friendship, especially as she sees more and more of him as a neighbor.
One night, Booker’s hanging out on his front porch when he catches Nile coming back from a night run. He’s stunned to see her out so late, especially in the woods. He warns her that there’s a lot of dangerous and aggressive wildlife out there that like nocturnal hunts. She waves him off and expresses that she can take care of herself just fine. Especially since she’s an ex-Marine. Booker tries to warn her again, looking worried. Nile again laughs him off and bids him goodnight.
Tumblr media
That’s because unknown to Booker, Nile is secretly a witch. In fact, her family has practiced magic going back generations and even before they survived the Middle Passage. She uses the excuses of her night runs in the woods to cover up the fact that she’s doing magic rituals there. Mostly because her magic is very nature based. In fact, it’s part of the reason why she became a veterinarian; her nature-based magic gives her a healing hand with animals, including wild ones. Other rituals she does are for self-protection, opening pathways, remaining in balance with nature and warding off evil influences that seek to harm in general. That’s all why she’s not particularly scared of the woods.
In the meantime, Nile runs into Booker on her own at the supermarket while she’s running weekend errands in town. He has a whole hot lumberjack aesthetic going on as per usual, with a plaid jacket over a denim shirt, jeans and hiking boots. Nile jokes that he must be having some sort of party at his place that he didn’t bother to invite her to since he’s buying so much red meat and food for a single person Booker insists he’d never be so rude. He just...eats a lot.
Without warning, he quickly excuses himself and all but flees from Nile. She finds it odd but continues her shopping. When she gets back to her cottage, she finds Booker reading a book and drinking coffee while sitting on his front porch. While he waves hello, he quickly goes inside. Nile is annoyed; as far as she can tell, she didn’t say anything offensive to him. So why in the hell does it seem like he’s avoiding her?
One night later, there’s a full moon. While Nile is aware that wolves are native to the area, she’s surprised at how loud they are that night. Yet the constant howling doesn’t bother her much. If anything, it soothes her to sleep. However, she wakes up the next morning to find holes dug up throughout her backyard, like some sort of dog or wolf has been messing around back there. There’s no damage or blood, so she just fixes up her yard and moves on.
Tumblr media
Over the next few weeks as the autumn gets colder, Nile realizes she’s going to need to start stockpiling wood for her wood stove that helps warm her cottage. She heads back into town where she runs into Booker at the general store. This time, he’s much more friendly with her.
When she explains that she’s going to have to spend more money than she thought stockpiling wood, he quickly offers to start chopping it for her. She’s taken aback at how quickly he does so. Yet he’s super friendly about it. At the same time, she doesn’t want to take advantage, so she tries to decline. Booker insists that it’s no big deal. He’ll just add whatever surplus of wood he doesn’t need to her pile at the side of her cottage. She won’t even know he’s there. Nile agrees.
She starts finding herself running into Booker all over town. She also finds out from Yusuf and Nicky that they’ve known Booker for a long time. It turns out he’s a computer coder/programmer who works remotely from home. They also assure her he’s a good guy. At the same time, he can get a little melancholic sometimes and drinks a bit. Mostly because his wife divorced him after she had a string of tragic miscarriages. His wife also missed their native France. She let him keep the house and moved back to France. Last they heard, his ex is happily married to someone else and has kids.
Nile starts noticing a pattern; Booker is either super friendly with her or oddly distant. Every few weeks, he’ll just disappear and she’ll see no trace of him at his cottage next door. She chalks it up to his depression over his breakup with his wife. While she’s not a therapist, she leaves him little care packages of her baked goods whenever he disappears. He always returns her Tupperware to her after a few days. Though the first time she includes chocolate treats, he politely tells her he’s allergic to them. From then on, Nile avoids giving him chocolate.
Eventually, Booker and Nile grab dinner together and get a bit tipsy. They end up sleeping together and both have a damn good time. Nile notices that Booker is a bit possessive in bed and seems very much into her, in a good way. He’s also super tactile. And really into how she smells. He also doesn’t seem to mind hanging around the next morning and immediately offers to cook Nile breakfast. Everything goes off without a hitch and Nile and Booker soon start sleeping together regularly.
That’s when Nile starts noticing more of Booker’s slightly odd behavior.
He’s always leaving his sweaters and sweatshirts at her place. When she tries to return them, he refuses and insists that she should wear them to keep warm. Whenever he sees her wearing one of them, he gets super excited. He offers to fix things around her house instead of her wasting money on a plumber. He always makes sure her firewood pile is stocked up. He loves taking walks with her in the woods. He’s always offering to cook for her whenever she likes. Especially because he seems to pretty much inhale a ton of food. However, he always makes sure her fridge stays stocked and she never runs out of anything. He’s protective of her but not in an overwhelming way. Nile’s not sure if they’re exclusively dating…but she wouldn’t mind if they were.
Meanwhile over Thanksgiving, Nile’s mother and brother come to visit her. Nile’s mother is still a practicing witch and her teenage brother is a warlock. As he’s not an adult yet, he hasn’t achieved his full power but he’s still able to cast lighter spells and do rituals.
Nile also has Booker over for Thanksgiving dinner since it'll be nice to introduce him to her family. As soon as Nile introduces Booker, her mother and brother immediately raise their eyebrows. For they both realize that Booker is not the human he appears to be.
Nile’s brother tries to tell her something is up with Booker. But she assures him that Booker has been nothing but sweet to her. He gives her space when she wants it. Yet he’s always willing to help her out whenever she needs it. Almost as though he revels being at her beck and call. Besides, Nile’s a powerful witch in her own right and has enough protection spells wound around her.
Her brother explains that he’s not worried about Booker doing anything to her. He’s far more concerned with the trouble he can bring to her doorstep because he’s not what he appears to be. At the same time, Nile’s brother says that it’s not his right to reveal to Nile what Booker is, as he’ll have to do that himself.
Nile is confused, but takes her brother’s words to heart. She also appreciates how her brother does a protection ritual for her and her cottage before he and her mom leave. Nile's mom also leaves her a ton of fresh ingredients and blessed items for her spells and rituals.
Tumblr media
Two days after Nile’s mom and brother leave, there’s a full moon. Which means the wolves howling in the forest are back. Again, it doesn’t bother Nile and soothes her to sleep.
That is until she’s woken up by noise coming from her front porch. She peers outside her window to find a VERY large wolf-dog looking animal whining and pawing at her door. It’s massive. Yet when it spots her, it doesn’t attack but rather starts nosing at the window, as though it’s trying to get her outside. Nile cautiously opens the door to find the wolf-dog bleeding from a nasty looking wound on its shoulder. The wolf-dog is nearly passed out and is losing blood fast. So Nile gets her veterinarian’s kit and drags the animal into her house.
It never attacks her. Not even when she sedates it. If anything, it’s exhausted but friendly. Sewing up the wound, Nile also casts some spells of healing for the wolf-dog so that it can heal faster. Not wanting to leave a traumatized animal alone, Nile falls asleep in the living room with its head in her lap. She doesn’t worry about a wild animal attacking her due to her own protection spells for herself.
When Nile wakes up the next morning? She finds Booker asleep and curled up with his head in her lap. Completely naked. And with a healed scar in the same exact place on his shoulder where she stitched up the wolf-dog the night before.
Booker quickly explains to a stunned Nile that he’s a werewolf.
In fact, the first time he met her at the dinner Yusuf and Nicolò had, he immediately picked up on how good she smelled. Just an intoxicating blend of spicy, boozy, vanilla, cinnamon and a hint of flowery deliciousness. It was so overwhelming that he mentally freaked out. And it got worse the next time he ran into her at the supermarket. That was because the closer he is to the full moon, the better and stronger she smells to him. It in turn makes him come off as awkward and weird. Mostly due to his general behavior getting more animalistic the closer he gets to the full moon.
He tells Nile that he’ glad she didn’t seem to notice his weird behavior. At the same time, Booker admits he finds it odd that out of the people he’s had a romantic interest in, Nile’s scent overwhelms him the most. Even more so than his ex-wife. Not wanting to scare her away, Booker initially thought a friendship with Nile would be enough to sustain himself. Well, that was until they slept together.
It also turns out that the reason that Booker is so close with Andy, Quynh, Yusuf and Nicky? Well, Andy and Quynh are a werewolf and witch pair, with Andy a werewolf and Quynh a witch. Joe is a warlock to Nicky’s werewolf, forming their pair as well.
Tumblr media
When Booker was bitten by a werewolf, his wife was initially surprisingly accepting of it. They actually ended up moving to the town soon after his first full moon so that he didn’t have to deal with too many people knowing his secret. However, she came to hate him due to going through the trauma of her miscarriages. She blamed the fact that he was no longer human for not being able to have children. Booker blamed himself as well. After his wife left him, Booker never believed that he’d ever find his mate. Well, that was until Nile moved in next door to him. Her scent set off something primal in him that had him attracted to her nearly at first sight.
Except werewolves Andy and Nicky never got around to explaining to Booker how their witch mates have an attractive smell to them that only they can pick up on. So Booker was going nuts trying to control himself around Nile. He of course didn’t want to be a creep and be all up in her space, scenting her.
The reason Nile smells so wonderful to Booker? He was picking up on her hereditary witchiness. However, he didn’t realize that she was a witch until she stitched him up in wolf form and cast her spells to speed up his healing. He swears he’ll keep her witchiness a secret. Especially since he trusts her to keep him being a werewolf a secret from everyone else outside of the other four.
Nile is stunned by this information. She’s also concerned about him potentially biting her and turning her into a werewolf. Booker is horrified at the concept. He explains:
1.)    Modern, enlightened werewolves do not turn people without their consent. It’s rude as hell.
2.)    Even if he were to non-lethally bite someone in werewolf form, they have to be genetically predispositioned to turning. So not everyone who’s bitten even turns.
3.)    Nile is full of powerful, generational magic flowing through her veins. Plus, her protection spells (which Booker was also picking up on before he realized she was a witch) protect her from getting turned anyway.
Booker being a werewolf also explains how Nile’s mother and brother realized that he wasn’t quite human. Along with Booker basically courting her protective wolf style while in human form. Leaving his sweaters and sweatshirts around her place means she’s constantly wearing his scent. Constantly cooking for her shows he’s a good mate who provides food for his beloved. Fixing up her place on his own, making sure her fridge stays stocked and getting her firewood also shows he’s a good mate who provides the best shelter.
Basically, modern and enlightened werewolves hunt big game during the full moon. Booker does so with his pack of Nicky and Andy. Witch Quynh and warlock Joe will sometimes accompany them because the nights of the full moon are when magic is the strongest. In fact, Booker is surprised that they’ve never run across Nile in the woods on full moon nights.
She explains that due to the wolf howls she’d hear on those nights, she practices her magic at her cottage. Which also explains why wolf Booker showed up on her doorstep when he got injured; the magic spells protecting Nile and her home ensured that he wasn’t there to harm her but actually needed her help.
Basically, Nile and Booker are both adorable dumbasses who didn’t realize each other’s true natures.
When Nile facetimes her mom and brother to let them know she and Booker are not only together but that he’s also a werewolf, the two of them joke that they’re shocked she didn’t realize something was up with Booker. After all, he was all over her and the house when they visited her for Thanksgiving. And in what were clearly wolfy courting rituals. He also was pretty submissive to Nile’s mom and especially her brother. That was clearly a sign of Booker accepting her family. Also, witch and werewolf pairings occur pretty naturally in the mystical world.
So it was no wonder that Booker was literally sniffing around her for months on end before they slept together. His scenting of her also increased afterward. Didn’t Nile realize how much Booker loved it whenever she wore his clothes? Because it meant Nile was voluntarily wearing his own scent and accepted him into her life .
Nile is aghast. Her mother and brother roll their eyes but are happy for the pair of them.
Tumblr media
As Nile and Booker settle into their relationship and Nile’s friendships with the other four deepen, things are going well. That is until Merrick and his assistant in Keane suddenly show up into town.
It turns out they’re trophy monster hunters who have heard rumors of witches and werewolves out in the woods. The townspeople immediately find Merrick extremely irritating and Keane scarily aggressive. With Merrick and Keane sniffing around, Andy, Quynh, Yusuf, Nicolò, Booker and Nile are on high alert.
Will they be able to survive Merrick and Keane’s invasion of their little town? And will Booker and Nile’s courtship be able to weather the coming storm?
Elorcan children headcanons
They don't discuss children for the first couple of years after the war. They are too busy rebuilding Perranth and their own personal grief. Not to mention they are learning how to be a couple without being on the run or at war.
Surprisingly it was Lorcan who raised the subject of children. They had just had Yrene and Chaol visit them with their four year old son and new born daughter.
Lorcan had melted at the sight of Elide cuddling their friends daughter, of seeing her playing with the small boy with more energy than one would expect from such a small child. And it makes him think of how Elide would look like with their own children.
It takes him a while to raise the subject, scared should she say no. But when he does, Elide immediately kisses him. And she agrees. And they do not waste time in trying. But given Elides witch heritage and the fact Lorcan is demi fae makes conceiving difficult.
Elide knows how much Lorcan struggles when each month, she does not become pregnant. It hurts her as well but she can see how much it destroys him.
But then, one month, her cycle does not appear. And she just feels off. Lorcan confirms that her scent has changed and she is in fact, pregnant.
If Lorcan was an overprotective fae bastard before, he was even more so now she was carrying a child. Their child. He hires a Torre healer to ensure that nothing goes wrong with Elides pregnancy.
When Elide goes into labour, it was a long, painful labour. Seeing Elide in so much pain, knowing that he had been a part of it, kills Lorcan. Having spoken to Chaol, he knows that this is common but that doesn't stop it hurting any less.
Eventually, she delivers a beautiful baby girl they decide to name Callie Marianne Lorchan, inspired by Kaltain and Marion, the two women who had saved her life. She has dark fluffy hair and dark eyes like her parents.
Lorcan can get over how small his daughter is. As Elide sleeps to recover from the birth, he holds Callie to his bare chest because he's been told skin to skin contact is important. And she's just so tiny. Especially compared to him. He's just smitten and can't understand how he, a Hellas blessed warrior could make something so pure and perfect
Mannon is named Godmother, and although she acts like she doesn't care, she adores her goddaughter and will move heaven and hell for her.
Both Elide and Lorcan shower Callie with all the love and affection they can, but Elide makes sure her daughter grows with healthy boundaries. Callie however is a Daddy's girl and had Lorcan wrapped around her little finger just like her mother.
She has inherited her parents determination and stubbornness. She decides to combine her love animals and interest in healing and wants to become a vet.
Not wanting their daughter to simply commit herself to work and study, Elide and Lorcan encourage her to get a hobby. Like Aunty Aelin she decides music is her thing and she has a natural gift for it. She sings, plays the cello, flute and Ukulele.
Five years after Callie's birth, Elide gives birth to twin boys, and of course Fenrys is their Godfather. He does get emotional when they ask him but he of course agrees.
Henrik Gavriel was born first, his middle name honouring the lion of Dorenelle and half an hour later he was joined by Kier Odin and the pair are identical. They definitely use this to their advantage, but know their parents and sister can tell them apart. Fenrys doesn't stand a chance and is the subject of most of their pranks.
Henrik, like his father and namesake joins the army, which is something that terrifies Elide, especially when he has to go away of military missions. She knows how dangerous a battlefield can be and images of Lorcan with his organs hanging out keeps her awake, terrified that it'll happen again to her son. Thankfully he always comes home safe.
Kier however does not share his twins army ambition. Instead he accepts the role of the heir of Perranth. He enjoys learning from his parents and is happy to accept any pointers from his aunt's and uncles. And if Elide thought her worry for Henrik is bad, it's nothing like what Kier goes through. He had regular panic attacks if he starts to think what what might happen to his brother.
The twins outlet is their pranks and simply makeing people laugh. Henrik prefers larger jokes and visual humour. Kier is more puns and cleverly worded jokes.
When Callie is 8 and the twins are 3, they have their final child. Another daughter they call Annette Luna. She was born prematurely and if Lorcan thought his other children were small, he had know what to deal with when Annette was born. He was so scared to even touch her as she looked as though she could break.
She also has some health problems related to her premature birth, which gives her parents and older siblings no end of worries.
They make Yrene and Chaol her Godparents and they help ease the families worries
Even from an early age she showed a talent for art. Although she likes all forms she favours watercolor painting, sketching and pottery.
When she gets older she becomes Terressans official artist, to record all the official events. She also is very popular for commissions and always has a waiting list.
Hello! I'd like to ask a dvd commentary about this part☺️. This is one of my favorites Speirs fic (and probably one of the best I have ever read) and this is definitely me favorite part. I'd really like to read your thoughts about it💕
He was tired. He could not feel himself. It was all someone else’s skin. Images of wounded or dead comrades were woven into the patchwork quilt of his mind, and he knew it pained you to see him like this. He existed in a thousand agonies, but he tried to pretend he was alright and that he would be, not only for you, but for the men that followed him.
In ordinary life, a man would never see his buddy’s limbs blown off into the trees, or a person explode into thin air, nothing left of him. It was something he could not ever forget, or put into words. Just thinking about it sickened him. All of the men out there saw the same damn thing, but if you couldn’t handle it, you couldn’t be a soldier. He had no choice but to ignore it.
At night, when a battle was over and all was abnormally quiet, he thought of who got hit, who got killed. Who he killed. The silence trapped him like a bug in tree sap, heavy and cloying, and he was so tired of fighting what it allowed to invade his mind. To feel anything deranged him. To be seen feeling anything stripped him naked. He didn’t let anyone see him. He couldn’t let his guard down. He had men to lead. There was a war to be won. He gulped pain to avoid making others taste it.
But you saw how he was, and he knew it. He saw how you were, and you knew it. You both wanted to protect each other, both knowing each of you were tougher than you let on. You had almost three years worth of ghosts living in you; their blood staining your vision like sun spots, and their dead eyes always trying to capture yours. Yet, you managed to stay soft, like a flower enduring a storm, and he admired you for it. Loved you for it. He loved you as fire loved innocence. He loved you in spite of the deep fears that this war would divide both of you.
He knew he was allowed to be vulnerable around you; to be held by you as if he were a fragile, faded rose, but he wanted to stay strong for you. To protect you. But this time he couldn’t.
A single, lukewarm tear escaped his eye and cut a clean line through the dirt and cam cream on his cheek.
CHRIST this is the angstiest shit i’ve ever written. speirs just…hits different with me. there’s so many layers to him ✨layers he prolly built up in self defense for his trauma✨
i’m about to go Feral i love this man
basically this short ficlet was like a character analysis, almost. i dove really deep into what i thought his mind could be like. i remember i also did some research on other vets’ darker stories to kind of shimmy more comfortably into his mindset (once i knew what i was in for it was just mario kart’s 3, 2, 1 🟢go🟢)
i remember i chose that certain gif of him for the fic because That Scene is a perfect example of him…kind of openly showing his trauma almost without meaning to - like he didn’t realize. i mean everything that he has seen and done, he’s having to hold it in like putting tape over the holes in an aquarium. but eventually there will be leaks…and then full on Floods of Emotional Disaster
everything i wrote in that passage came from me just studying his eyes in that gif - what he was probably thinking. especially the first paragraph in what you sent me
this man was immortalized by his fearless actions. i don’t think i’ll ever perfectly capture or understand How he was so courageous and didn’t hesitate to do like anything???? of course it could be he just wanted to get his comrades through the day but in the end i wonder how did he get like that??? something in the way he grew up?? he was so open to doing every brutal thing (especially the stories that made him a legend) and i’m like sir are you okay do you have a wish to endlessly flirt with and tease death?
i also loved to explore the concept of him only being soft around the love of his life and feeling safe enough to cry in front of them. the amount of Trust you’d have to have from this man. he can’t be easy to get to know because of all the defensive walls he built. like if you get this man to open up you might as well have access to the damn universe. plus he’d be so fiercely overprotective (like we saw with grant) that it’s scary but also like 😏Hey There😏
he’s been so strong for everyone around him?? he became the definition of a “perfect soldier.” that’s a hard reputation to keep up with, but he did it. he kept his struggles hidden so well that it’s sad 😔 so if this man ever breaks down around you, he basically trusts you with his life ✨don’t ever take that for granted, you have his heart and soul and every fiber of his being✨
also i’m so soft for the fact that winters had to convince speirs to come to a reunion despite his ✨war crimes✨ because speirs was scared of getting arrested
i could go on and this was probably a Mess but Anon i loved answering this and i hope it’s what you were looking for!! please come back and visit 🤙🏻💖💖💖💖💖
pick a passage from any fic i’ve ever written and i’ll give some dvd-like commentary! 😃
