calling his name won't bring him back but todd still screams himself sore. damaging his voice enough to go mute is worth it if the last word he utters is neil's name.

Neil grinned as he handed Todd's poem back to him. "You're really good at writing. So good. I like a person like that."

Todd's eyes twinkled. "Yeah?" he asked, hopefully.

Neil nodded. "You know, if you were a girl, I'd marry you," he said casually. "Because we get along well, encourage each other to keep going, and we could save money by doing that."

Todd stared at him. Neil brought up the "if you were a girl" a lot, but Todd always thought to himself, "You don't need to be a girl. I love you as a boy." But he knew he couldn't say that.

Instead, Todd just scoffed and said that Neil would have to do the cooking and laundry. Todd offered to clean the house and do dishes, so it evened out.

If you were a girl, I would marry you. Those words always played in his head.

But now, as he clawed at the dirt of Neil's grave, only one sentence echoed back- a reply to what Neil had said months before: If you were alive, I'd marry you.

I find it FUNNY how the boys in Dead Poets Society presumably (and so have been depicted) have not seen or interacted with the opposite sex properly before that the mere thought of talking to one gets them gaping and closing their mouths like a bunch of goldfishes.

☆ DPS WINTER HEADCANONS ☆

★ meeks constantly has a cold and can't shake it - then when he's healthy again for about three days, he goes outside without his coat or his hair still wet and of course he's sick again the next day, but still complains about why this keeps happening. it drives pittsie crazy.

★ there's soup for dinner on a lot of days, and charlie always burns his tongue on it because he's too impatient to wait for it to cool.

★ todd likes taking evening showers in the winter, he comes back to their room all rosy and warm and sleepy eyed. neil likes todd taking evening showers in the winter.

★ the younger students are extremely excited for christmas and the poets love to make fun of it (especially charlie of course), but none of them can really hide their own excitement.

★ they're all home for christmas break, but have long phonecalls in the afternoon to discuss what presents everyone got.

★ meeks' glasses fog up in classes when they come back in from outside and knox thinks it's the funniest thing he's ever seen.

★ knox wears all the handmade woolly socks that pittsie gets sent from his mom. they're too big for him but knox loves the extra warmth in the mornings. pittsie's mom doesn't have a clue.
