FRC 2025 - July 🍁

Hello Friends! How is your summer treating you? I'm officially an empty nester, and it's been kinda nice but definitely quieter. I still miss my daughter like crazy, but she's doing super well (even though the heat in LV is kicking her butt). This leaves a lot of time for reading on the hammock... which I'm doing a lot of (as you can see below).

I only have 5 tasks left for the @fanfic-reading-challenge and they're tasks that must be done in a specific month, so I won't finish until December 1st. For now, I'm back to reading whatever I want. If you have a favourite fic/fandom/ship to recommend, please send me a link! I'm also particularly pleased with myself for reading 30 fics more than I did all last year. Now I'm going to try to beat my 2020 word count record (22 mil), but we'll see how well that goes. lol.

And of course, it’s never too late to join up, and there is a Discord to ask for help and recs. I see a couple of you have joined and it makes my heart happy to see you there.

As I do every month, my progress and fic recs are below:

I have read SO many wonderful stories this month. I've jumped from hyperfixation to hyperfixation. I'll share a few with you here.

In one week, I read 615k words of Jon/Sansa fic, and now I'm completely converted and obsessed.

the mating game by @cellsshapedlikestars (Jonsa 15/15 - M) -- Give me all the Arranged Marriages/Fake Dating fics because I need them all (and this one is BOTH! It's SO good!) And seriously - every fic by this author is a banger. I think they just GET the characters. This one was a particular favourite - but honestly, I think I read like 10 of their works that week.

Did I power through and rewatch all of Season 4 of Hacks in 2 days? Yes, I did. I can do that now. I'm an empty nester.

Falling by mouthyhack (Deborah/Ava 4/4 - E) -- HACKS. I love this show. I love Jean Smart. I can understand why Ava wants to kiss her. I don't read a lot of f/f but this one was special. And it's SO funny. You can't have a Hacks fic - about a comedienne - and not have it be funny. This one was REALLY wonderful.

The Fantastic 4 Press Tour has me in a chokehold. Not only because Pedro is a delight - but JOSEPH. So I got back on my shit again and reread a BUNCH of Hellcheer favourites... and then found that some of those favourite authors are writing new things and I had to read them too - it's a vicious cycle and I'm not mad about it.

the edges of your soul, I haven't seen yet by @ebongawk (Eddie/Chrissy 5/5 - E) - This one is based on an internet prompt about celebrity encounters. It's a future fic. Eddie is a rock star. It's freaking cute, okay? They're cute. I love them, your honour. Chrissy's friendship with Robin and Nancy is particularly fun in this one. I've read lots and lots of ebongawk's work (not just in this fandom) and I love how they write. It's a perfect fic.

Okay lastly. Sandman. I watched all of S2 Vol 1 in a day leading up to the release of Vol 2, and now I can't make myself watch Vol 2 because I know that's the end and there will (rightfully) be no more. Also, I was spoiled, and so I know how it ends, and I'm not ready. So I'm going to live with the fanfiction for a while. I wish there was more of it and that there were long fics - but there were two fics this month that were simply perfect - so I'm sharing them both.

Flowers for a King by @seiya-starsniper (Dream/Nuala 1/1 - G) - which is pretty much the most perfect response to the trailer for Vol 2 ever. It was one of the first Sandflower fics I'd read and I loved it so much I wanted to eat it. So there we are.

I'm glad to have met you. Finally. by @nualaofthefaerie (Dream/Nuala 1/1 - G) - This one was overwhelmingly beautiful. So many gorgeous lines. I was very emotional after reading this. Seriously - if you only read a couple Sandflower fics in your life - read these two.
