Amatonormativity has destroyed so many people's understanding and acceptance of themselves, and it's heartbreaking.
Yes, it is normal to be in your 20s, 30s, or older and not have lost your virginity, had a first kiss, or a partner. It is normal to say that you aren't ready for those things, too! It is normal if your life doesn't follow the "college graduate -> engagement -> buying a home -> 2.5 kids and a dog" trajectory that so many people have idealized.
So many people associate maturity with losing your virginity, or having a first kiss, or a serious relationship, and I think that's a dangerous association. Maturity isn't gained through those things, and you don't have to have those experiences to be considered "mature" or "grown." It is not a bad thing to go at your pace. Nobody else can live your life but you. If you end up having those experiences, that's great! But it should be done because you want to experience them, not because you feel "broken" and "immature" without them.
#amatonormativity#ask to tag (genuine)#i honestly *wish* conversations like this were things i was exposed to when i was younger...#...maybe then i'd've felt less of a need to surpress my aromanticism and asexuality...#...the feeling of brokenness still trails behind me sometimes because so many of us are taught that this all WILL happen...#...we WILL fall in love. we WILL have a nuclear family. we WILL be satisfied with this...#...and that this is the IDEAL for cishet patriarchal structures...#...and that /any/ deviation to the SLIGHTEST degree is that fault of the *individual*. who WOULDN'T want this life?#there's this idea like i said that maturity is gained as you almost... adhere to expectations...#...and that's genuinely dangerous to associate maturity with that and i hope you can fill in those gaps because it can get dark fast

Wouldn't lizard fashion be something like spikes and scales and a frilled lizard collar?
Like so?
(Bonus art under the cut)
#thank you anon I've been wanting to draw proper lizard fashion for a while and this gave me the motivation I needed#dracula daily#re: dracula#dracula#lizard fashion#The colours I chose here make Drac look like Harry Du Bois - which is appropriate given how I tend to depict his personality in my shitpost#bonus under the cut featuring Dracula's Weed Smorking Girlfriends#personally I really like the theory that the three vampire women are actually dracula's wife and two daughters#since the book never actually calls them his wives and the two subordinate girls are specifically described as looking similar to him#the idea that he turned his family but is no longer capable of loving them (or being loved by them) adds a whole extra layer for me#because he still goes through the motions - goes out to get them food (babies) and provide for them/fulfil the role of a patriarch#but its hollow and loveless and done out of strange obligation/habit - like an echo of being alive#BUT for the sake of comedy I will always draw them as his three weed smorking girlfriends because it's just funnier#or rather as I like to think of them - his three weed smoking EX-girlfriends who spend all day making fun of him and and freeloading#I'm going to tag any art with them in it from here on out as#the ex-wives of dracula#he's going to england to escape their ridicule

guy who so desperately tries to find god. who wants to have faith in a higher authority to guide him out of the hole he's in. from the weight of guilt from simply existing, as the person he is. but every time he thinks he's answered his higher calling it turns out he's made the Morally Incorrect choice and his path to goodness and holiness was the road to the devil all along
#now trusting god will give you a way out? there's your real crime!!!#guy betrayed by the protestant promise of a direct connection with god. but is also somehow. joan of arc.#see he never achieves actual martyrdom tho bc he's not allowed to stay dead lmaooo#sam somehow the most unintentionally catholic AND protestant character of all time#dean the atheist who sees religious predestination as the curse it is from the get go. framed as the narrative's Real Moral Authority#but also in the process reifying patriarchal familial power n authority. very very important Value of the Church#i don't think it's that deep. the show's attempt at critiquing christianity. but the way it reinforces christian cultural values???#'religious predestination and absolute faith in a higher authority...bad'#nice nice ok tell me more?#“so you should put your faith in family. in your patriarch (big brother)”#?????????#the thematic incoherence of it all. it's like the world's stupidest puzzle box to me. i can't leave it alone.#sam = maybe i can find god thru following my destined path. wait oh shit.#cas = maybe i can find god thru rebellion and seeking my own destiny. wait oh shit.#dean = god is fucking dead and me i also feel not so good#the “guy who so desperately wants to find god parallel” <- me coming out as a secret sastiel fan#both of them...finding god in de-[sniper on the roof kills me in one shot]#spn bible studies#j.txt

i’ve never been as angry on behalf of a character as i am for sam winchester
#currently thinking about season four and five. absolutely fuckibg mental#the world literally reshapes itself around him to prove him wrong#its all framed as God. Sam was so stupid and selfish and reckless for drinking demon blood. He just liked the power of it and he chose a#DEMON over DEAN.#but. that’s not the story they tell in s4.#like even aside from every single other complexity. Sam is literally right. he has ZERO WAY of knowing that killing lilith is the final seal#AND DEAN DOESNT KNOW TJAT EITHER. like sam is literally right he can kill lilith and he does kill lilith. dean wants lilith dead just as#much. sam’s cardinal sin is disobeying dean and then the world flips around on him and plot twist sam and dean were both wrong all along and#killing lilith is what will bring back lucifer :)#but. it’s not framed like that either. it’s framed like SAM BROUGHT BACK LUCIFER BY KILLING LILITH WHILE HIGH ON DEMON BLOOD#dean you wanted to kill lilith too?????????#but. doesn’t matter dean despite being mostly motivated by jealous anger is retroactively proven to be Right#and sam is retroactively proven to be Wrong. he is bad#i just. jesus. sam’s not evil ever. he’s hardly even that fucking morally grey#and he still thinks there’s something wrong with him that he’s a freak that he’s inherently evil and needs to be purified#why?? cause of something fucked up that happened to him when he was a baby#and because he’s disobeyed his father and his brother and been angry at awful things that have happened to him#makes me feel fucking insane actually#no wonder narrative frames sam as evil no wonder he’s inherently marked as Bad by the forces in supernatural like even on a meta level#in supernatural gods just another shitty father. embodiment of the familial patriarch. and from sam’s very first moment on the show he’s in#opposition to that he’s ran away from john and he argues with dean. therefore he is evil#i don’t think my words r really making sense right now but. fucking hell#and sam is so swamped in guilt all of season five and he just fucking accepts that everything bad is his fault#and he gets tortured in the cage to save the fucking world and it’s STILL not enough. not to appease his own guilt and not to appease deans#anger at him. dean is still throwing his perceived violations back at him in like season nine!!#and whenever he tries to get out it’s treated as yet another Sin. narrative acts like sam thinking dean was dead and having a life outside#of hunting is The Worst Thing He Ever Did#worst sin sam ever commits in the eyes of the show is disobedience. Absolutely awful actually#spn#sam winchester

Given that this is obviously Lestats picture in some capacity (his name is in the top left corner) I hold fast that Lestat 100% has a locket with a photo of Louis in it.
#i was talking about this with my mutual#every detail in this photo drives me insane#but im obsessed with that either this is lestats photo and he wrote his name on the top#OR since its a family photo de lioncourt is the family name. solidifying the patriarch lestat image#either option makes me foam at the mouth#iwtv#iwtv headcanon#lestat de lioncourt#loustat#louis de pointe du lac#interview with the vampire

“my fav character could never perpetuate a harmful societal construct because they’ve been a victim of societal constructs and also they’re Good and the construct is BAD so if they had done that THEY would be bad and they’re not they’re Good.” have any of u met a real person ever
#lucys ramblings#this isn’t meant to be mean or anything i just find this idea so frustrating bc i think it’s a deeply unempathetic way to view people#just. can people please understand that internalised homophobia or patriarchy via ingrained societal upbringing#can absolutely have external negative ramifications on others without the person being absolutely irredeemable because of it#having such a zero sum view of good and bad when it comes to situations like this that exist on so many axes#is so unkind to yourself and also your peers. ur not INHERENTLY irredeemable for having harmed those around you in some way whilst u were#also harming urself with the same constructs#you almost definitely have work to do to unlearn and make amends!#but ur not zero sum terrible for it#in the same way in the middle of an anxiety spiral you might say your friend hates you. and then have to apologise to them because thinkin#of them in that way hurt THEM#in a much more structural way the same can be said for those who#say - perpetuated harmful patriarchal ideas of family roles in their relationship because they were holding themself to an unnatainable#and rigid idea of who they had to be to be ‘right’ in a patriarchal society.#if u see a redhead on twitter saying this exactly then congrats u found my partner in perpetual brain cell ping pong

Saying that non-conforming female characters don't face as much misogyny as their "feminine" counterparts is so funny cause literally the misogyny in their treatment is more overt because they aren't staying "in their place" like men think they should. The disdain for women + misogynistic societal ideals are so much more blatant in male characters interacting with these women. Countless times they are, in essence, told they need to sit down, shut up, and know their place but somehow that translates into them having "masculine privilege". I can only assume that people with this take haven't actually read the books and only get their information from second-hand sources.
#Men actually love it when the group they're oppressing doesn't conform with their restrictive measures that's exactly how things work 🙄#George saying that his non-conforming female characters were outcasts was really just overkill cause this is explicitly stated in the books#It's such a stupid take to have or try to argue cause there's literally no basis for it anywhere in the books#the inherit misogyny in othering women for not conforming to a misogynistic and patriarchal society though...I have to laugh#Coming from the so-called feminists in fandom make a career of throwing female characters under the bus to prop up their faves#Brienne literally gets told not to go crying if she gets raped because she's asking for it by /acting like a man/#and her mistreatment by both genders for her looks and behavior is well documented in her POV and those who interact with her#Asha gets denied her claim for being a women and repeatedly treated like an idiot for pushing for it anyways#Arya is an outcast in her own family and her behavior is lamented by her father mother and sister lol#I would just really like to know where this supposed privilege comes in??? where is it actually at??#cause it doesn't get them better treatment...better access to their claims...security from being assaulted...so where exactly is it?#just another fandom idea that can never be backed up but people treat like an absolute fact anways#obligatory this isn't me that feminine female characters don't face misogyny cause people love misinterpreting my points#asoiaf#brienne of tarth#asha greyjoy#arya stark#daenerys targaryen#fandom nonsense

SUNDAY SIX LAST MINUTE COMEBACK
i've been a big writing flop recently but i vowed on my honour i would return today 🫡🫡 got some saejima stuff
Tagging the People @skysquid22 @four-white-trees @overdevelopedglasses @passthroughtime @woundedheartwithin and potentially @phantasy14 ? 👀👀 no pressure ofc just thought it'd be fun hehe
***
“Saejima never responds to his fucking emails,” Daigo muttered, refreshing his inbox in vain. “I’d be better off putting a letter in a bottle and hoping it washes up at his doorstep.”
Majima enjoyed it when Daigo got crabby- it was a lot more entertaining than the gloomy diplomat act, even more so when he got his gun out. “You can’t blame the guy for wantin’ to feel the air on his skin over reading his inbox. Especially with how passive aggressive your emails get. So much pent-up rage…”
“And where do you think that rage comes from?” Daigo deadpanned. Sighing, he clicked away from his email and loosened his tie. “I was afraid of this when he became patriarch.”
“He may not be a bureaucrat, but it ain't like you were ever gonna find someone stronger.”
“That’s not what I'm talking about.” For a moment, Daigo hesitated. “Do you think he was ready for this?”
Majima’s smirk smoothed out.
“I don’t doubt Saejima’s strength. And I don’t doubt anyone Kiryu-san advocates for. But…” he sighed. “He spent a long time behind those bars. And this job… isn't the warmest welcome back.”
“Was there anywhere else for him to go?” Majima asked.
“There were other options than making him a patriarch,” Daigo countered. “Perhaps I should have started him lower in the ranks. And given him time to re-adjust.”
"He's not a fuckin' flower. He doesn't need it."
But they both knew he was saying it for the sake of saying it. That his defence of his kyodai was half-hearted at best.
The fact was, part of Saejima hadn't left death row.
(Or that day in 1985.)
(Or his dead baby sister.)
#my writing#sunday six#saejimas insane trauma#you cant convince me he was a good patriarch when we never heard of the saejima family again and he went back to prison twice 💀#dojima daigo#majima goro#saejima taiga

another anti-dany post from someone with a sansa pfp, another blocked user 💃💅
#why are they Like That?#i say this as someone who really loves sansa#yes dany is my fav asoiaf female character but i LOVE THEM ALL#arya brienne asha arianne hell even cersei!#~i'm gonna be so pissed if the prophecy is real and confirm the targs are Special and the show is pro dany uwu~#sweetie your precious jon snow is half targ too lmao. daenerys literally woke dragons from stone#they're the prince who was promised/azor ahai/whatever we want to call it. targs are only human and as any feudal family in asoiaf#*extremely* flawed to say the least... but. these are fantasy books. the special bloodline™ deconstruction is not#'the heir to the dragon kings will go InSaNe in an astoundingly misogynistic and ableist plot twist' but#the people who will save the world - the chosen ones - are a girl in a horribly patriarchal world#and a bastard in a society that demonize them#(and obviously bran - a 'cripple' - and arya - a gnc girl - and tyrion - a dwarf - etc. too)#THAT'S the deconstruction. this is a '90 fantasy series for god's sake#val speaks#txt

I think a lot about that poem, that one about the way men love by Ada Limón, and the stories that get told in response to it. About gestures, both grand and small, sometimes kept private or shared with the world.
It'd be easy to derail it by talking about stereotypes, bioessentialism, and the ways talking about "male socialization" can be problematic.
But I don't think that's what it's about, not at all.
If you were raised to be a man, denied access and expression of your emotions, shamed for any bit of tenderness you showed, even to and by those closest to you - but the feeling persisted, the ache of caring and loving had nowhere to go.
If you're not allowed to speak your feelings into the world, you must put them elsewhere. Often, you will create something, as building is a respectable task for a man to do: A treehouse for your children, a rose welded from metal so it will never die, a display for flowerpots. You solve problems for your loved ones, you observe what pains them, but unable to console them you vow to abolish the pain itself. You pursue a skill, a career even, that will rid the world - or at least your world - of this pain: Inventing solutions, memorizing plane crashes, giving blood, learning to make shoes.
Your feelings go unspoken, but they never go unfelt. You feel them every day, and with every act you undertake, and so you fill them with your love and care, putting it out in the world.
If the world listens, if it pays attention, it can tell. I can tell.
I love the way men love.
#this one goes out to my godfather who built me a treehouse and a loft bed#and to my grandpa who built a home for his family with a workshop in the basement so he could keep solving problems#this post does NOT go out to my father. fuck that guy.#obligatory disclaimer that men should be allowed to verbalize and show their emotions#but this post isnt about the patriarchal injustices#its about how love perseveres#ramble#poetry#in the way that i talk about poetry not in the way that this is a poem#then again anything can be a poem if you read it right#i love the way men love

fandom debating the gender roles of loumand of like 'housewife picking lint' Armand vs 'hysterical wife' Louis is so dull honestly like why can't they both be wives? why can't a woman recently freed from an abusive hetrosexual marriage in the midst of her feminist artistic awakening enter into a decades-long toxic lesbian relationship complete with bed death and inability for her to recognize the abusive nature of her wife due to the perceived equality of their relationship? did any of y'all consider that??
#on a serious level I don't even really like the emphasis the fandom puts of gender roles even in the case of loustat#where 'woman' automatically equals the victim or 'good one' in the relationship#but to the degree that louis is in fact woman-coded in that relationship is clearly meant to serve as a criticism of the patriarchal family#whereas I think loumand's issues go way beyond that to the point that adding the gender angle isn't really meaningful#IN MY OPINION#iwtv#m.text

One of The Family at the chippy (I have no explicit reason to believe they're in The Mob beyond they're all Italian and related and own a chip shop but it's a very fun idea for me so I'm rolling with it) brought in homemade chicken soup last night and was offering it to other family members but also (and only!) me so not only am I taking this as a sign that I'm doing good and she likes me but also it absolutely fucked
#like there were 3 other folks in who werent related and none of them got offered banging chicken soup#so fuck yeah#it had tiny pasta stars and i think maybe msg? which as i hope we all know is always a major win#and its been minus 5 here so it was very much appreciated#i also got to take home free chips and donner meat the other night bc there was leftovers when we shut so that also slapped#the delivery guys get priority for leftovers and theres rarely much but its still a breath of fresh air afer thr mcds policy of#everything gets binned and if you so much as look at it with hunger you get sacked#in all honesty its truly wild comparing the experience of highly corporate fast food and independent family run fast food#like yeah theyre a lil disorganised with some of the paperwork but fuck man i get that#and i 100% would not be surprised if it was a money laundering operation for the family patriarch i havent met yet#but shit man at least nobody yells at me when i fuck something up#and indeed they all seem very appreciative that im putting effort in and accepting advice/criticism#and like i AM fucking up a lil here and there taking an order wrong or being inefficent or not noticing a payment hasnt gone through#but its all been a minor 'just do this next time here ill help you fix it'#i think its to my advantage that most of the non family workers are teens in their first job lmao but i do not care#its a hell of alot better for me rn than my current alternative
