Lots of questions about your OC. You say he's the son of a bard. Does he have any favorite music genres? Does he play any instruments? What's his character class? I'm a huge fan of names and their various meanings, so seeing that he's had a lot of thought put into his got me excited, sorry. Does he bother even trying to carry around that cursed sword, or does he ditch it somewhere lmao. Is he the kind of durge that embraces the urge, or tries to ignore it? How does that impact his close relationships? Romantic or otherwise.

About the kid of a bard: Tavern music-esque stuff in terms of genre. Shanties, folk, just stuff you'd hear a tavern bard perform. Though he also likes actual dance music such as waltzes. He can't play an instrument to save his life though, the strings hurt his poor little fingers (which is valid). He is acrobatic however and knows how to handle his body, so he enjoys dancing. Did work as a dancer for a while in Calimshan in-between the urge awakening and entering the cult.

As for class he's a Sorcadin. Divine sorcery turned Shadow sorcery and an oath of Conquest. Thought he's primarily using his spells and his oath is 9/10 times broken. The crushing hope bit unfortunately requires granting hope first, such a shame.

He kept the sword with him but he never attuned to it nor used it a lot, he much prefers daggers or short swords. He could use it since he never attuned, so he wouldn't be driven mad immediately, but he's mainly just afraid of damaging the few possessions he has left from better times. Also he's mad already anyway soooooo

He very much goes by the philosophy of 'Bhaal allows you to choose your battles, as long as you pick them.' He does enjoy killing and he has an incredibly twisted sense of mercy. My guy considers death to be a blessing (thanks to his surroundings) and he personally loves to gift people 'hope' before ending their lives prematurely, kind of gets a deranged kick out of ending people when they're the happiest since that way its a mercy cuz they'll never feel sad again. His assasin gig is rly just a job though, the sacrifices for Bhaal is where the fun's at. And since he does abide by the rules of Bhaalspawn the urge doesn't impact his relationships a lot, but there was an instance where daddy dearest had a shitty day and Gortash nearly got gutted.

As for relationships, besides Gortash he's only really ""close"" (very loose usage of that word) with Orin, Ketheric, Sarevok, Scel and his dog hound of ill omen. Pretty much everyone else he's ever had a noteworthy relationship with is either dead or missing.

hey hey another thing. Everyone noticed how subdued movie Elphaba is relative to book/musical Elphaba, right? Book Elphaba's whole thing is being loudly independent and making her own bold choices (then getting [metaphorically] pushed down 5 flights of stairs for having the gall to exist). Musical Elphaba is less of a reddit atheist than her book counterpart, but still plenty abrasive and, ultimately, forges her own path (with its own relatively less tragic consequences).

Movie Elphaba? She doesn't choose to go to Shiz. Her father's planning on keeping her tucked away in their family home until the day she dies, where she can't hurt anyone or further embarrass the Thropp name. Morrible's the one who gets her enrolled, fully aware that Elphaba has no choice if she doesn't want to spend the rest of her life stuck at home, only ever leaving to accompany Nessa. This Elphaba doesn't choose to go to school, she doesn't choose to go to the Emerald City, and, really, she doesn't even choose to defy gravity -- there is no alternative, she can't live if she stays with the Wizard, especially not after Morrible's preemptive announcement of her wickedness. Movie Elphaba's trapped by her destiny, walking the path laid out for her. With one crucial exception, of course: Glinda, baby, that's right, the only thing this Elphie's ever chosen for herself, the only thing she's been allowed to choose, is to have Glinda at her side!

This softer, more noticeably scared Elphaba creates the extremely juicy dynamic of visibly relying on Glinda for support. As soon as they become pals, Elphaba's latched onto her, the only person who isn't scared of her magic, the first person to care for Elphaba's well-being. She chooses to befriend Glinda, she chooses to bring Glinda to the Emerald City, she chooses to ask Glinda to defy gravity with her. This is what makes this version of Defying Gravity so delicious: Elphaba's never truly believed in herself! The only reason she ever started was because Glinda was there to encourage her, and now, at this crucial moment, this Elphaba, who has lived her life so terrified of the harm she could cause others, has the confidence to not only risk her own life with a spell she's never tried, but the life of her one and only friend!

And Glinda refuses! And it's totally understandable now! Of course this Glinda would say no -- she's not scared of what could happen to her, she's scared of what will happen to Elphie, and standing there, she gets it. She understands the role she's played in Elphaba's life. Glinda knows Elphaba wouldn't be there, ready to declare war on the Wizard, if Glinda hadn't been by her side the entire time, and she has to refuse. She has to. Elphaba's request isn't come with me, we're stronger together, it's I can't do this without you, I'm not strong enough, and Glinda KNOWS that's not true. The only way she can express this is by sending Elphie off on her own, to straighten her hat and wish her luck. It's the only way Elphie will take flight and finally realize that she's got the power to do anything she wants, if she just tries.

Danny feels bad for Damian. Not bad enough to stop doing what he’s doing, but still bad. He doesn’t deserve to be led on about their relationship like this.

Danny has no idea how the rich boy even noticed a nobody like him, but when Damian had asked him out to lunch, he’d jumped at the chance to have a proper meal. And when it became a repeat thing, he chose not to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Until one time Damian had clarified that he wanted it to be a date, and he froze.

His first instinct was to say no. Damian did seem like a fine person, but Danny wasn’t romantically interested in him. He should have said no, but the refusal stuck in his throat. Their meals were first time he’d felt properly full in a long while. Being a homeless runaway didn’t make for easy finances, and homeless shelters and soup kitchens weren’t aways available (especially since in Gotham, some were just fronts).

So he said yes.

He could play along. It wasn’t like dating was a declaration of anything permanent. Plenty of people dated and then broke up. And it wasn’t like he was going to drain the boy’s bank account, just… use the situation to keep himself afloat until he could find something better.

i love how draco and harry have the perfect setup for an 'enemies to even worse enemies' story about how their childish enmity turns into true hatred and violence as they grow up and join their respective sides of the war

but they keep missing their cues. every time either of them is in actual danger they immediately drops the whole rivalry thing and are willing to risk it all to save each other.

harry's like 'omg i hate draco so much he's totally a death eater' but after the sectumsempra incident he completely backs off even tho his suspicions are more confirmed than ever because he doesn't want to be in a situation where he could hurt draco and after the astronomy tower confrontation he actively lies to minimize draco's role in things and spends the rest of book 6 and all of book 7 worrying about him. and he saves him twice without hesitation in book 7.

and draco's like 'im a death eater now and i hate harry potter so much' but even though he knows firsthand what letting harry potter escape will mean for him and his family he doesn't identify him at the manor and says nothing when he sees that harry and ron are loose in their cell instead of still tied up and he lets harry take his wand while barely putting up a fight and in the room of requirement even unarmed he tries to stop crabbe and goyle from hurting harry and doesn't touch his mark to summon voldemort and his wand works perfectly for harry despite being of the most loyal core.

they really looked at the obvious 'narrative foils who go from petty rivals to deadly enemies' arc for their relationship and said 'lol no thanks we'd like to be narrative foils who dysfunctionally pine for 7 books instead'
