Cap control.
Following on from a brief description in yesterday's short stream.
This team result is a good example showing the potential base XP and importance of sitting in an enemy capture zone while simultaneously defending our own caps. - Smashing the entire area.
I was zig zag kiting away and towards the one enemy cap, spending a minute or so in that cap and retreating, and doing the same again, over and over, not to capture the zone but to deny the enemy team those capture points. At the same time I was firing on targets in the other 3 capture zones that our team controlled, this allowed us as a team not to loose our capture zones, get the points and pushed back the enemy flanks.
Although I had not sunk any ships you can clearly see in this domination match that this playstyle gets you considerably more base XP, which inturn gets you top of the board, more ship experience and more silver.
Not to mention the win.

Clemson - T3 USN Destroyer
Here we have the Clemson, a great entry into the USN destroyer hybrid gun boats.
This ship starts off with 4x1 102mm configuration and you can upgrade this to 4x2 102mm doubling your potential shell firepower.
Clemson also comes with equipped with 4x3 torpedo launchers, 2 each side and the reload is pretty decent to! You can play easily switching from side to side creating a nice wall spread of torpedos, the range is limited however. The torpedos can also be upgraded to pack a little bit more of a punch at the cost of a few.more seconds reload time.
Decent speed, decent rudder shift time but with below average concealment.
The smoke generator deploys quickly and lasts a long time, giving you ample time to fire of one side of torpedos, engage with the guns and fire off the other side of torpedos all before anyone knows what is going on.
A great hybrid gun boat to chase down other destroyers and equally capable of dev striking approaching battleships.
It's such a good destroyer, it was a shame the grind to T4 was so fast!

Iron Duke!
Welcome to the Tier 4 Royal Navy Battleship.
Arguably one of the toughest battleships in Tier 4, the iron duke can hold its own against all other battleships. Despite being equipped with short fuse armour piercing shells you can still get citadel esq damage from her guns by aiming above the torpedo belt, higher up on the side armour and superstructure shots. This battleship is particularly effective against Cruisers, their AP shells are not as likely to over pen the armour and because of this you will do more damage and more citadel hits to the enemy cruisers.
The Iron Duke's armour is thick and broad, she can take a beating and when bow in against an enemy she can tank for the whole team, great to use to contest a cap or play cap control (sitting in an enemies cap to deny them the points).
Speed and rudder shift is average for the tier, she also has a fair torpedo belt for the tier.
Best used with a dedicated battleship commander, you can further increase the shell accuracy and damage or fortify the damage control and health ribbon.
A great battleship to use and a joy to grind to the T5 Queen Elizabeth.

Welcome to the Tier 4 British Light cruiser, Emerald.
This is the first cruiser of the Royal Navy to be equipped with a smoke generator. Greatly enhancing the ships survivability, offence and sneak attacks. The Cruisers in the royal navy line (excluding premium) are all equipped with a short fuse Armour piercing shell, these shells typically arm and explode quicker than your generic AP round, so you might not be able to get as many critical hits or citadels on larger heavy cruisers and battleships but you can still dish out citadel esq damage by aiming further up the side armour and the superstructure. The short fuse AP round is particularly efficient against destroyers as the shells do not over pen the armour.
Another brilliant offensive feature to the emerald are the torpedoes. The light cruiser has 4x4 533mm launchers. Two launchers each side, this is particularly dangerous when you are behind islands or sitting in smoke, combined this with the sonar and the Emerald can lay waste to any ship that comes near, battleships in particular entering a cap to contest or capture can fall victim to the sneaky silent Emerald, just be careful not to fire your guns when in smoke and close to enemies, they can detect you.
The Emerald like all Royal Navy cruisers come with health ribbons, allowing you to heal part of your health relating to the damage you have taken, allowing you to stay in the fight longer.
I would advise using William Tennant as a commander. The ingenious perk, along with increased speed, rudder shift and citadel/splash damage reduction all allow you to dodge incoming shells and stay in the fight in longer. The legendary slot for extra consumables is particularly useful, allowing for 3+ consumables for the healing ribbon, sonar and smoke generator.
For the good of the British Empire!

La Galissonnière
The La Galissonnière is a Tier 5 French cruiser and is a great defensive and support ship. Boasting great levels of speed and manoeuvrability, combined with its rapid firing 3x3 152mm guns and 2x2 torpedos launchers you can effectively repel advancing enemies, hold the flank and contest and defend caps.
When used to fire from behind islands or kiting away from a target, not many ships can withstand the pure HE 🔥 and surgical AP & torpedo strikes.
In non upgraded form, this cruiser has an exemplary engine boost that can reach speeds in excess of 40 knots, combine this with a 180 degree turret traverse of 15 seconds, a 9 second main battery reload and a 3.9 kilometres sonar detection there are few destroyers that can avoid or out run this ship and her arsenal.
The La Galissonnière is very capable of exceeding 3x times its health pool in damage and if you can survive long enough, you can quite easily carry your team to victory.
Current upgraded stats;
Survivability:
Hit points - 27300
Armour - 6-105mm
Torpedo Damage protection - 10%

Map Awareness - HE 🔥 to AP Citadels
Map awareness is such a key skill to learn, one eye on the target one eye on the map. What your looking for are nice broadside targets!
Some players put their blinkers on, focus in on one ship for 10 minutes, sticking to one ammo type lobbing shells at max range. The key to success, is to monitor your surroundings, look for good targets and frequently switch between ammo types, (especially if you play cruiser or destroyers).
In this short clip you can see the last of the USN cruiser Dallas slowly but surely fall to the inevitable HE 🔥. As he has backed behind the island I am scanning the map to find my next target, it's located, its a broadside Aoba. So it's time to ditch the HE and bring out the AP to try to score some Citadel hits, shots fired, find my next target, smash the entire are, rinse and repeat.

Torpedo Dodging - Free Camera
One of the best ways I find to thread the needle when dodging torps is to turn into them and fine tune your manoeuvring while using the Freeview camera (left bumper in Xbox one default controls).
Free camera typically raises the view above your ship and further away allowing you to see more of your surroundings from above.
In this clip you will see me actively searching for a battleship behind an island cover, about to fire my own torpedos when I suddenly detect an enemy destroyer (which always takes priority). I immediately flip the sonar on and see the torps, turning into them and using the free camera to fine tune my rudder shift allowing me to safely avoid the torpedos and go on to sink the destroyer for our team to win the game.

Island cover!
Not only can islands provide cover for your ship while engaging the enemy but you can also use islands to block the enemy's line of sight. This can be particularly useful when manoeuvring, firing at targets and also stalking enemy ships. I used the islands on my right to block the enemy's battleships line of sight. Allowing me to close in on my target.
This Budyonny didn't notice me until it was too late, a few well placed shots and a couple of torpedoes sunk the ship and secured the flank.

Destroyer - AP!
After firing my torpedoes at an enemy Iron Duke while testing out the new French Destroyers on early access, I came across this Iwaki Fe Japanese cruiser sitting in smoke, close range, perfectly broadside, time to break out the AP!
A few well placed shots and we were able to quickly send him to Davy Jones locker.
The same principle goes for any destroyer facing a broadside cruiser up close (under 5 kilometres), get the AP on it, pay attention to your hits to see if you have any shells shattering on impact, if you do then raise your shots a little, you'd be surprised how many citadels you can get!

Feel the shot!
Some ships in world of warships have an excellent shell trajectory that makes aiming easier!
Although not as lofty or high arcing as the USN shells, these have more of a straight and true trajectory you can overtime develop a feel for the shots.
This short clip shows me engaging a French Destroyer, these are very fast. For these I usually aim 3.5 times the seconds to target, but because I have got a good feel for this particular ship and the shell trajectory I was able to pull the shots shorter than usual but still hit the target.
Keep working on this skill, combined with the Auto Aim feature, it will further improve your effectiveness and accuracy.

Division - Team play - "Sledgehammer"
Divisions can have a great benefit on your gameplay, voice chating to your friends providing support and tactical plays for one another. You can pick a flank, push for a capture zone, support and target priority together.
In this clip I finished of another cruiser but had not noticed the Fuso that had come around the other side of the island, realising my impending destruction I frantically called out to my Division team mate, for him to sink the Fuso.
You can see why we call him Sledgehammer.....

Auto Aim!
There is a way to hit targets behind cover or manoeuvring around cover, it can also be used to judge a ships position traveling at an angle. There is a built in feature called Auto Aim.
Simply select your target, in this example it's the Kirov and pull the left trigger to zoom in aim. If you pull it again quickly, so release and then apply, it will automatically adjust the height of your aim along the ships trajectory. All you need to then do is compensate for speed of target, so leading your shot and then fire a slavo!
Keep practicing, it's a highly useful skill to hit those potato camping players! 🥔🛳️.

Damage control - Effective use.
Pro tip! Never use a damage control party to put ONE fire out 🔥.
I broke the cardinal rule and extinguished a single fire without thinking 😲. I was subsequently set upon by a pair of skillfully played cruisers, and was set on fire 4x times.
Even with a healing ribbon in use there was no avoiding the oncoming death of the Izmail, the 13 second damage control party reload was just too far off...

Map awareness - Team play.
One of the best skills you can develop is map awareness. Constantly observing the minimap for broadside targets and paying attention to any target priority requests of team mates within firing range.
Initially I was about to fire of a salvo at the slightly angled Scharnhorst when my team mates requested target priority on a recently spotted USN destroyer.
Not only are destroyers vital to winning domination matches but the Mahan in particular is a huge threat to our own destroyers. And from this clip you will see that even AP overpens from the Bayern are enough to finish the target off, allowing our destroyer to remain undetected, capture the remaining bases and go onto win the game.

Welcome to the Kirov!
Arguably the most potent Tier 4 Cruiser in the game, the Kirov introduces large caliber Artillery for the tier (180mm) in a 3x3 configuration. This means AP shells are greatly enhanced in damage and penetration, making it a pure cruiser hunter killer. With a base fire starting chance 🔥 of 13%.
The range of the guns are excellent and can be enhanced further by using commander Nikolay Kuznetsov, his base trait of "follow the sun" and the slot 1 perk of beyond range can allow this T4 cruiser to reach beyond 16.0 kilometres, combine this with a kiting playstyle (as this ship is a typical glass cannon) and you will effectively set everything on fire and remain out of the enemy's reach.
Sonar and good damage close range torpedos upto 4 kilometres complete this cruisers compliment allowing it to easily defend itself and ambush unsuspecting enemies from behind cover and Islands.

The Tier 3 Kuma. One of the better T3 cruisers In the game and a great introduction to the more effective ships in the IJN cruiser line.
This line of ships reveal the enhanced Japanese torpedos, excelling at damage and range and continuing to increase throughout the tiers.
The HE shells also pack a punch and have a great fire starting chance 🔥.
Excellent torpedo and HE armaments combined with its good speed, manoeuvrablility, good concealment, sonar and scout/fighter planes, the Kuma is a T3 ship to be respected and feared.
My go to commander choice is Mikawa for increased survivability, however Yamamoto is also a strong choice for extra damage potential.
