The Many Worlds Theory
Okay, I promised a rant about quantum mechanics. Here it is. Buckle up cause yinz are about to learn some SCIENCE!
Might be helpful to know in advance:  What is Quantum Mechanics? - A branch of science that deals with the theoretical and mathematical interactions of subatomic particles and the quantization of energy and wave-particles
To start, lets go over the whole Schrodinger’s Cat thought experiment. Specifically the Copenhagen Interpretation (I could go on an entirely different rant about the interpretations going on during the early years of quantum mechanics, but Copenhagen’s is generally the most thought about). In this experiment, a cat is inside a box. Also in the box is a radioactive material, a geiger counter (to measure radioactive decay), and a bottle of poison. If the radioactive material does nothing, the cat will be alive. If the radioactive material decays, the geiger counter will detect it, and trigger the bottle of poison to be opened, thus killing the cat.
Tumblr media
According to many realist scientists (including Schrodinger and Einstein), the cat is going to be EITHER dead OR alive. And because no one can observe the cat in the box, it remains unknown until the box is opened. BUT, according to the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics, the cat exists in a state where it is BOTH alive AND dead at the same time. This state is called a superposition.
Tumblr media
That pitchfork looking thing is the wave function in the equation. It describes everything there is to know about a system. Its continuous (no singularities), must be integrate-able and normalize-able, AND the first derivative must be continuous.
Essentially, it relies on the idea of entanglement and the probability defined in Schrodinger’s wave equation. Lets start with the radioactive material in the box. Without being observed, we don’t know if it is decayed or not. But there is a non-zero probability of it being in either state. And, in simple terms, to avoid Schrodinger’s wave equation resulting in a ‘collapse’ of only one solution (aka making it so that one probability is 100% while all others are 0%), then both non-zero probabilities need to be taken into account. Thus the radioactive material is existing in a superposition.
The radioactive material that has the probability of decaying is then interacting with the geiger counter, while the material with the probability of non being decayed does not. Therefore, the radioactive material and the geiger counter are entangled, causing the geiger counter to also exist in a state of superposition. Likewise with the bottle of poise. Which then would cause the cat to be entangled and in a state of superposition as well.
The kicker comes at the end of all this, when the box is opened and the contents are observed. In some solutions to the Schrodinger equation, the wave function simply collapses into only one outcome, the cat is either alive or dead. But in the Copenhagen Interpretation, You are only observing one of many outcomes, and only PART of the solution to the Schrodinger equation. It is here, you have to ask what has happened to the rest of the equation? Everything that existed in a state of superposition? Well. If the math is mathing according to the Copenhagen Interpretation, ALL those solutions and outcomes still occurred. But it is at the point of an OBSERVED collapse of the wave function that the world splits into World 1 where the cat is dead, and World 2 where the cat is alive. This solution allows for all possibilities of the wave function to be realized without a true collapse of part of the equation.
Tumblr media
But where are these other worlds? Well. The best answer I’ve ever found to that is: The worlds don’t exist in space time. Space time exists in each world.
Other things to check out and learn more under the cut!
FYI: You'll probably hear a lot about an Everett guy. He's important too, but wasn't necessary for me to talk about to explain the details.

Isekai Prompt 1
A hero is summoned into a parallel world by its managing goddess for an important duty. Not to slay a demon lord, or conquer a dungeon, or topple an empire, but just to...exist.
It turns out that the hero is from a world that operates on determinism, but this new world operated on the many worlds principle.
Now, there are too many timelines and the universe is at risk of collapsing on itself, so the goddess has charged the hero to roam the world and consolidate all the timelines into a single one around themselves as the "one true timeline".

As cameras becomes more normalized (Sarah Bernhardt encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use cameras because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by manufacturing companies. I paint not because I want a painting but because I love the process of painting. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.
if i have to explain to you that using a camera to take a picture is not the same as using generative ai to generate an image then you are a fucking moron.
#ask me#anon#no more patience for this#i've heard this for the past 2 years#“an object created and controlled by companies” anon the company cannot barge into your home and take your camera away#or randomly change how it works on a whim. you OWN the camera that's the whole POINT#the entire point of a camera is that i can control it and my body to produce art. photography is one of the most PHYSICAL forms of artmakin#you have to communicate with your space and subjects and be conscious of your position in a physical world.#that's what makes a camera a tool. generative ai (if used wholesale) is not a tool because it's not an implement that helps you#do a task. it just does the task for you. you wouldn't call a microwave a “tool”#but most importantly a camera captures a REPRESENTATION of reality. it captures a specific irreproducible moment and all its data#read Roland Barthes: Studium & Punctum#generative ai creates an algorithmic IMITATION of reality. it isn't truth. it's the average of truths.#while conceptually that's interesting (if we wanna get into media theory) but that alone should tell you why a camera and ai aren't the sam#ai is incomparable to all previous mediums of art because no medium has ever solely relied on generative automation for its creation#no medium of art has also been so thoroughly constructed to be merged into online digital surveillance capitalism#so reliant on the collection and commodification of personal information for production#if you think using a camera is “automation” you have worms in your brain and you need to see a doctor#if you continue to deny that ai is an apparatus of tech capitalism and is being weaponized against you the consumer you're delusional#the fact that SO many tumblr lefists are ready to defend ai while talking about smashing the surveillance state is baffling to me#and their defense is always “well i don't engage in systems that would make me vulnerable to ai so if you own an apple phone that's on you”#you aren't a communist you're just self-centered

I threw a Jurassic World Chaos Theory watch party for some of the other storyboard artists and friends today, and celebrated the occasion by recreating a version of my old desk setup from the office (dinosaur toys, drawing reference, memes, gifts, crew drawings, etc.) with a little Ben flair.
(Also, I promise no one actually ate anything out of the boot)

hey in ur peri animatic: (https://youtu.be/OCqlRuDaXYU?si=K52WDu_vw9rg7chz) that I have been permanently obsessed over since today and have watched about 20 times by now so much that I have drawn & posted stuff based on it what was that partial bug form peri had?
Tumblr media
I haven’t watched either of the show btw so if it’s explained in the show please tell me plsssss
OK, SO the bug thing is not technically canon to the series. It's based on my own headcanons for fairy biology, but i do have justifications for it!! Fairies have very strong shape-shifting abilities, so it would make sense that the form they show to humans isn't necessarily their true form(not to mention extreme that mimicry is very common in insects). And you want to know the visible traits almost every fairy has in common? Being very small with Insect-like wings.
The fact that their humanoid form isn't their true form in actually confirmed in the show! Cosmo and Wanda are revealed to look like biblically accurate pseudo-angels in the museum episode. (I say pseudo angels because the Flaming Sword of Eden is only debatably sentient and I don't think is considered an angel. Ophanim are also debatably not angels because they don't have wings (sorry for the angel tangent I like angels))
Tumblr media
So wouldn't their true forms be angelic then? Well, yes. But I like bugs so. Also I have more headcanons to justify myself. I like to think that they have both a true-true form (incomprehensible to the human brain, probably exists mostly in a dimension invisible to us, that looks how we imagine biblically accurate angels), and a fairy form (which is visible to humans but is naturally very insect like and tends to scare people). So, in order to interact with humans, they have to learn to shapeshift into a humanoid form but will occasionally slip if they get too relaxed/aren't careful, hence the mandibles coming out when he yawns!
The reason they struggle so much more with human forms than the animals or objects they typically turn into is that, well, they aren't trying to convince those animals or objects. The more human they try to look, the harder it is to keep up convincingly. If you turn into a really uncanny squirrel, only other squirrels will notice. If you turn into a really uncanny human, they form a lynch mob and burn you at the stake.

The exact same people that thought Tommy was going to tell Buck to lay low and not antagonize Gerrard, causing them to break up, are now head over heels for Buck hearing Eddie’s voice telling him not to let Gerrard get under his skin during his dissociative episode. You could not make this shit up.

[ID: a digital redraw of the scene where chuuya shoots dazai in the shoulder. on the top of the drawing is chuuya holding a guy to dazai's head in the red and grey hallways of the prison. on the bottom of the drawing is dazai's pained face. the gunshot is shown stylistically as hectic lines behind his bloody shoulder. over the image is half a quote from goncharov that reads 'if we really were in love you wouldn't have missed.' the signature says dandelion-roots. end ID]
This quote from Goncharov (1973) in relation to soukoku has been haunting me from before I even got to that scene in the anime (the full thing is: Katya- Of course we're in love, that's why I tried to shoot you/ Goncharov- If we really were in love you wouldn't have missed). Violence as a tool for communicating emotions, especially love and hatred, especially love and hatred makes me go feral- how could I not think of the iconic quote that says that katya's miss was a sign of a lack of love/a fake love when chuuya didn't miss? Just... losing it over here.

something about the fairies taunting jack with rose petals no less. something about the toymaker covering the unit hq in rose petals while he gets shot at. you’ll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you blessed you with the curse of eternal life
Tumblr media Tumblr media
jack loses everybody he loves over and over again and as a reminder of that, rose petals.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the doctor loses everybody he loves over and over again and as a reminder of that, rose petals.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
tell me that doesn’t sound remarkably similar to the way fifteen describes the goblins to ruby. the goblins are part of the toymaker’s “legions” — ancient and mysterious entities from the dawn of time, slipping in through the cracks in reality, stimulated by human belief and superstition. goblins abduct little children for their own ends and so do the “fairies”. you don’t know where the chicken or the egg is, where history ends and mythology begins: did the folklore emerge from sightings of the real creatures, or did the creatures coalesce like an egregore because of the proliferation of the folklore about them, a manifestation of humanity’s deepest fears come alive ever since the toymaker changed the rules of the game?
Tumblr media
but was it the toymaker? could this all be a chain reaction, kickstarted billions of years ago (or only nineteen, depending on how you look at it) when one headstrong young woman looked into the time vortex and turned herself into a literal deus ex machina, defying all laws of reality, raising the dead and disintegrating the death-bringers? could that have been the moment (lol.) when it all began to unravel?
i haven’t seen classic who. what do i know. but maybe it wasn’t the line of salt at the edge of the universe. maybe it was one girl, seeing everything that ever was, everything that will ever happen, anything that ever could be. the fairies haven’t stopped pursuing jack ever since: he’s the living evidence of her miracle. they slaughter his entire train carriage but they don’t touch a hair on his head. other children are the fairies’ chosen ones, yes, but jack is the chosen one of their goddess. the bad wolf
Tumblr media
i wonder who that jonathan groff character in the upcoming series is.
