Make It So Friday
Tumblr media
This graphic novel/comic shouldn’t work. The publicity calls it a ‘lost episode’ and it definitely feels like that. But, then, a good portion of it is about a Corgi. Yes, a dog, a Corgi dog. A purebred dog. Sure, the other part of the story is about a Borg-ish device and the person or people who want to possess it. But, the twist with the Corgi made it definitely a 90s sort of ‘episode’. Ooh, and, Jadzia Dax was in this story as well. It’s always fun going back to the times during DS9 before… let’s go with… before Ezri (no shade to Ezri, just, I definitely liked Jadzia better). Apparently it was written to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Deep Space Nine (oof, that makes me feel old), and, it does the show proud in every single way.

it's always so fascinating and heartbreaking when a character in a story is simultaneously idolized and abused. a chosen prophet destined for martyrdom. a child prodigy forced to grow up too fast. a powerful warrior raised as nothing but a weapon. there's just something so uniquely messed up about singing someone's praises whilst destroying them.

Trying My Luck with Hybrid Publishing
Current stats
Total submitted queries: 27
Rejections: 18
Requests: 0
The good 'ol days when I celebrated every rejection are behind me. At this point, I oscillate between obsessively refreshing my email and being too paralyzed to open it.
At this point, I'm starting to question what I want out of this. I'm terrified of self-publishing because I don't want my book to die, but I'm not sure how long my frail ego can hold out for an agent to tell me I'm pretty my epic fantasy novel is worth their time. (Obviously, I know I need thick skin for this business, but I also have things to do and places to be. I don't have the time or energy for this.)
Like any other depressed writer, I went on a quest to find a way to make money writing—I've found that the fastest way to make my skills feel valuable is to find a way to get a literal value attached to them—and I stumbled upon Water Dragon Publishing. It seems like a step between self- and traditional publishing.
Pros:
publish much faster than traditional
no more depressing queries
more resources/support than self-publishing
potentially sounds more legit than self-publishing when I brag about my book to assholes from high school who I see around town
keep more royalties than traditional
Cons:
no agent to tell me when I'm doing something stupid
less prestige than traditional
no upfront payment: all royalties
still responsible for a lot of the marketing
my skin will still be as smooth as a baby's because I won't get as emotionally battered (i.e., I won't get the professional experience to add to my career belt)
That said, I think it's worth a shot. What has your experience been? Anything to look out for?
I eagerly await your reply. <3

i think possibly my favorite anakinism and one i think about a rather unhealthy amount is his body language and how he almost always looks viscerally uncomfortable and vaguely like a child who is scared of getting slapped. even when he’s being confrontational he looks sooo defensive like wow girl you have never fully processed anything that’s happened to you and you will carry the weight of it forever

There are no good endings because nothing ends, so that means there are no bad endings either.

“Buried Alive” for @weekly-star-wars-prompts
I had every intention to make this silly, like Ezra being comedically crushed by loth wolves, but it became sentimental ;-; Sometimes the art is just using you to create itself.
