mafuena's relationship is built on one of them becoming suicidal and running off to empty sekai and the other showing up late holding starbucks and saying the one thing that kanade and mizuki's people pleaser asses could never say.

it is also built on mafuyu's uncanny gift for dialogue that's totally innocuous from her perspective and might even be objectively correct, but that nonetheless contains the nuclear codes for making ena mad. to the point where you have to wonder if she does it on purpose sometimes.

i think every niigo fan should go back and reread parts of the main story every once in a while bc it's so easy to forget how unhinged that shit was

i just opened up one chapter bc i wanted to look at what ena said to mafuyu and first of all i can't believe some fans were hating on her for this she's literally so iconic here. i was kinda shocked by the amount of time she spent just saying "i hate you" straight to mafuyu's face. god their beef never gets old. then mafuyu responds with "i guess you wouldn't understand," which. she's right. but come on hearing that would piss anyone off

(if i could put one f bomb in project sekai i'd give it to ena in this scene. she would make good use of it)

and then if these two's whole mess wasn't enough, mizuki makes the stellar contribution of "if you wanna die go ahead it's your choice." like straight up?? from mizuki of all people??? after that it just gets depressing but not before mafuyu calls everyone selfish (which is exactly what ena called her. interesting...)

hard agree. though i think after mizu5 things were so emotionally amplified that she couldn't have identified what exactly she was feeling aside from I Need Her Back. so it's only after they reunite in the alley that she realizes, oh. this is what it means to fall in love.

ena is notably the only one in n25 without any kind of guilt complex because she simply dgaf. she's like AND I'LL DO IT AGAIN. and you know what? queen.

kanade as the final boss of niigo is so real. now let's just hope the writers know that too...

despite n25 being founded on the desire to disappear, iirc we didn't see any of the girls actually express that desire (in present day) for over 3 years pre-mizu5.

mafuyu, even while going through such a harrowing time with her mom, couldn't want to disappear because kanade had promised to save her and she believed in that promise. she knew she could lean on n25 for support, and they gave her another way out of her situation.

i think ena in insatiable had been the most recent instance of wanting to disappear. idk if she said it outright, but destroying everything that mattered to her and running off to empty sekai the same way main story mafuyu did certainly gave that impression. but she hasn't sunk to such a depth since then because she realized n25 was there to support her too, to assure her that her existence had value.

but mizuki couldn't rely on n25 the same way. she wouldn't let herself. she deliberately created distance between them and her because she thought she didn't deserve to get closer. it's because of this internal isolation that she ended mizu5 without a shred of hope for the future. the return of the phrase "i want to disappear" was a natural conclusion.

but now... writing all this out, i realize there's another person who doesn't see the group as something to rely on, who has positioned herself as separate from them in a totally different way. how would kanade, as the leader, as the one who's supposed to save everyone, deal with a situation where she needs to be rescued? would she accept their help and become more secure in her friendships like ena did? or would she retreat into despair before they even have a chance to reach her, like mizuki did?

"i've never had anything" (kanade) -> not "never", but the death of her mum, her dad falling into a coma and her life being dedicated to composing music to save people, isolating herself from people and the outside world overall.. yeah

"to be sad about" (mafuyu) -> The Guilt caused by her belief that her mum only wants the best for her and so surely she's the problem (mafuyu noooo)

"i won't die" (kanaena) -> in a stubborn way. ena refusing to give up, kanade refusing to stop composing

"in my life of sickening violence" (kanade) -> exaggeration, but refers mostly to her dad (and lack of self-care)

"there is no place in the world" (ena) -> get it because nomad. hahaha

"we play to exhaustion, we catch each other" (ena) -> refusing to give up on mizuki

"if this world could just be me and you" (kanade) -> i mean. look at the card. but niigo too

"not mine or yours (but all humanity's)" (kanamizu, then all) -> in a literal sense, these two probably isolated themselves the most. in this case, it symbolises how they're connecting with people and reconnecting with their own humanity

hello! i was wondering if you had any thoughts, theories, or wishes for mizu6 after it's announcement yesterday. thank you! :D

what do i think will happen? continuation of the mafu6 conflict i.e. escape to survive 2.0

what do i want to happen? idk maybe filling in the gaps of mizuki's backstory, maybe her starting to deconstruct that self-loathing that underpinned her running away

the only reason i'm apprehensive about a mizuki helping mafuyu event is because that already happened. now if kanade had gotten set up for an arc (which she so needs) i would have been totally fine with a mizuki helping kanade event. their duo relationship is probably the least developed at this point

the producer's note talked about living with anxiety and finding happiness in everyday life, which seem like pretty interesting and very niigo themes to explore
