Good morning I'm thinking about how Azure Lion's treatment of Monkey King kinda explains a lot about Monkey Kings teaching style in LMK
Azure absolutely lavished Wukong with praise in a manipulative sense, described him as something he really wasn't "I see non other fit to rule us than you brother" yada yada and everyone followed behind him because Azure's right! He says truthful stuff! Nevermind the others clearly never once thought of Monkey King as their leader. At least not until Azure said it. Because Monkey King in LMK wasn't a warring being, honestly he just seemed like a young adult being manipulated by much older adults.
Azure crafted Monkey King into someone who would fight his battles for him. Wukong was on the front lines, Wukong took the fall for it. He used his relationship with sun wukong to manipulate him into taking on Heaven and ngl atho I'm still kinda :T about it, (it takes away so much of Monkey Kings character,) it really does explain why he acts the way he does around Mk at the beginning.
Starting out he kept him at arms length. It was a while before he even made contact with him outside of sparring and the contact he makes with him is minimal from the start, a hand on his shoulder and never for long. (Azure's hand and gaze always lingered on Monkie King, when theyre about to go to war Azure doesnt let go, Wukong has to be the one to pull away.) He doesn't lavish him in praise ever if he can help it, he doesn't ever tell Mk he's something he's not and when stuff like Spider Queen and Lady Bone Demon happen his first reaction is to get Mk away from those things, not because he doesn't trust Mk, but maybe because he would never ever make Mk fight his battles like Azure Lion did him.
I dunno something something truama I'm sick rn

Brotherhood Nicknames
Say, does anyone have any head canons for what Macaque would call DBK during the Brotherhood era? Like a nickname?
I feel like him and Wukong had nicknames for everyone in the Brotherhood. Some of them, they would use around the others jokingly. Other nicknames, however, were ones that they only used when they were alone and wanted to gossip LOL

hey hello i did a thing ^_^
this is all about wukong btw!!
the song is To The King by TyKim, I really think the pale king fits wukong a lot...
more analysis under the cut!
about wukong and the pale king being so similar:
they are both willing to sacrifice everything for their goals; wukong's being immortality, and the pale king's being to preserve his kingdom as long as possible.
they have also both used multiple people to guarantee their success, pk used the vessels and the knight/ghost, and wukong (technically) used macaque and the brotherhood.
OH. ALSO. MK.
MK very much resembles the hollow knight, in a sense that they've both been used as a means to further goals; hk being used to stop the infection (not really) and MK being used to basically fix all of wukongs past mistakes. also, both of their minds are being "rotted" or being taken over in a sense. hk has the radiance and the infection, and MK has ink MK and his monkey form.
so tl;dr, HOLLOW KNIGHT AND LMK AU WHEN??? (/hj)
probably going to do more song overanalyzing sometime,,

Still waters run deep…
——————————————————
I headcanon that it wasn’t death that made Macaque a scheming savage and a dirty player, he was always like that. But back in the days of the Brotherhood he was more shy and timid, which, combined with adoration of Wukong and (at the time) small figure, made him look rather harmless and sometimes naive.
But, sometimes, his true nature did shine through
Also first time drawing anyone from the brotherhood except gay monkeys

LMK Incorrect quotes#102 I REGRET NOTHIN-
Now imagine the brotherhood had to go to school to learn about the new world and what happened over the time they had been gone...Wukong and You just go for moral support...to Azure and Yellowtusk
Peng: Y/n's first detention, I'm so proud~
Azure: Whoa, backup. Why did they get detention?
Mac*Is hiding in his hoodie next to Wukong, the reason you're in detention was...because you punched a guy who talked bad of his shadow play* Because they're an idiot...

I have to protect my beautiful kitty from mischaracterization you guys don't know him like I do >:[
-he never manipulated wukong he idolised wukong in unhealthy way putting him as this untouchable great being it's sucks but fighting the jade emperor was wukong plan/choice they were all in on it and responsible for it
-he's not a bad person he only wanted to help and save everyone like wukong and like wukong he went wrong about it but unlike him wukong later had someone to guide him (tang sanzang) on the right path azure didn't he truly believed that he was doing the right thing and when he finally found out that he was wrong he sacrificed his life to save everyone from his mistakes
-he never wanted to hurt anyone deep down and he made mistakes and redeemed himself with his life despite evreytime he loved his friends and they all loved him

Sometimes I'm suddenly reminded of the fact that wukong was burnt for 49 days in heaven (and knowing each day is a year for people outside heaven), it means the brotherhood had 49 years to save him. But nobody did anything. That's why he says "oh, sure. Cause normally you just rush to my rescue."
I remember it and my heart breaks a little.

Shit, shit, shit!
Macaque ran through the city, frantically looking through alleys and accidentally bumping into a few strangers- some of few who yelled at him, but he didn't care.
He had to find you.
He didn't know why he didn't just use his ability to shadow himself to where you were. Maybe it was because he'd gotten used to not using them around you.
After a whole hour, he checked the spot he least expected you to be in.
The mountain where he betrayed MK.
...Were you secretly still hating him for that?
He gulped and approached your crouched figure, standing beside you. He knew you knew he was there.
"...Can I sit here?"
Your nod was all he needed.
Macaque sat down next to you, and there was silence.
Then, you spoke. "I thought you trusted me."
Macaque instantly perked at that, waving his hands side to side in a panic. "I do, I do! You're one of the few people, I swear!"
"Then why were you so distant this past weeks?"
He paused, and you frowned.
"You refuse to talk to me about it. I know we made those boundaries, but you just seemed so deflated and depressed, I can't just stand by and watch you be like that." You inhaled sharply, "I wanted to see you atleast smile today, but—"
"I yelled at you." Macaque finished for you, turned his head away.
You stared at him, noticing how his tail curled. He was distancing again.
"...Does this have something to do with MK? Wukong?"
Macaque sighed and placed a fist to his heart as a way to calm himself. "Alright, alright... so, um.." He pulled at his scarf and reached for a white piece of paper before handing it to you.
You took it, staring at the faces of Wukong and Macaque. It was them from the past, for sure, Wukong was making a goofy face, probably the one who took the picture while Macaque was caught rolling his eyes.
You flipped it and found the date. The date was today.
"Today is the day I died."
You looked up to see him.
"The day me and Monkey King fought. You know the story..." Macaque mumbled as he played with his black hair, before raising a finger. "Of course, this isn't an excuse for me yelling at you, I just.." He trailed off when he turned to you.
Your eyes were wide, soft tears began to brim those gorgeous eyes he loved so much. It made Macaque instantly begin to sniffle, looking away.
"I-I didn't want to bring it up." He continued, "He and I just... fuck, he was my best friend. For so many years, and it's just gone, it always blows my mind. I just... I sometimes wish I can share a peach with him again, and just talk... fuck.."
You moved close for a hug, and he returned it, burying his face into your neck as he cried. You cried with him.
"I miss him, [Y/N]..."
"I'm so sorry, Macaque.."
