I was watching a traditional painting tutorial and it was showing how to do a process called ’blocking in’. I messed around a bit trying digitally (using a Procreate brush style similar to a traditional paintbrush) but it didn’t quite have the same effect.

It’s not the best… just an experiment. But it has a charm to it. The criss crossing strokes of the brush were meant to produce a smooth sky without strong movement in any one direction, but accidentally created a lot of movement, particularly near the ground. Almost as if particles of ash were kicking up in an ash storm and catching the light.

I have no idea what that is on the right. It could be Dorian himself or it could be a building. I can’t quite see for the smog.
