alright since i've had multiple people asking me about it i'm gonna try to link to some stuff talking about the ableism and antisemitism

but--and i don't mean for this to come across condescendingly--i'm also going to ask y'all to please also put some effort into learning how to seek out information on your own. a lot of the stuff i'm linking i found by googling and/or searching tumblr with search terms like "strange new worlds ableism" and "strange new worlds antisemitism"

i understand that searching for information is a lot harder with how search engines are now, and navigating search engines probably isn't exactly something that's taught in general school curriculum. at the same time, it's also a very important thing to learn how to do effectively, especially if learning about, understanding, learning to identify, and combating bigotry is something that's important to you.

Briar (he/they) is the mouthpiece of their lil venture, and Oaks (they/it) is the curator.

What do they sell? 🔎👀 Wellll,,, their collection is pretty meagre, at the moment. A few choice pebbles, some dried dandelions. A shiny clam shell… Oaks tries their best.

Something I love about M!iK and don't really see be often talked about is the morals of the story.

Shonen stories usually have to work under the same story restrictions of "power of friendship" and "we can accomplish anything by never giving up!", and while MIK certainly has that, I adore the way they twist it.

Yes, both tropes are present but taken to their absolute extreme. Power of friendship? Ok, here's a huge cast of characters who are all in some level Extremely Possesive of eachother. Never give up on your dreams? Alright, the cast are literal demons who feed on desire.

And the best part is that this is openly encouraged by the story. The story is saying "Yes, be selfish! Chase what or who you want without any shame! Take what you love and guard it ferociously because it's YOURS and no one is allowed to harm it."

Iruma's character growth is not connected to "how much more powerful can he get?" Or "how much better of a person can he be?". He's already powerful and he's already a deeply good kid. His growth is explicitly about how much more demonic he can be.

How much more tightly can he hold onto his loved ones and his desires.

How much more selfish.

Just how refresing is it to read a story where gluttony is a virtue and a goal?

the reason i want to bring this up is because it’s something i noticed in a lot of the posts bringing up the behavior that dnp have/have had. its bizarre to me that we as a society, but especially we as a fandom, feel the need to disclose that bringing up problematic behavior isn’t an attack or call to ‘cancel’ someone!

to be able to have an open discussion where people CAN evolve and learn, bad behaviors need to be brought up without the immediate assumption that the person talking about it wants to bring harm to the other.

i am not here to defend dan and phil, they are well old enough to have these realizations on their own and stand for their actions, but, without the space to point out these behaviors, there will be no change. if these questions are being brought up within fandom spaces, why assume that the person means harm? excuse my metaphor but why would they set fire to their own house? i can understand wanting to take something with a grain of salt if it was coming from someone not in the fandom spaces at all, or someone not familiar with dan and phil whatsoever, but since it is the fans bringing this up, the absolute least you can do is believe them and listen.

wanting to see change is far from the same as wanting to see someone ‘canceled’ or lose their platform. these discussions are good and important to have, and i want to again thank everyone who has taken time of their days to speak up about this. it’s labor you shouldn’t have to do, and i really hope that we as a fandom learn from this. i know i will.

Me: I find Sith-era Count Dooku to be a tremendously shippable character, but for the exact opposite reasons people typically find Obi-Wan (charming, flirty, social, handsome) popular to pair.

By comparison, Dooku is old, miserable, a desperately lonely unstable center held up by scaffolding of sneering don’t-give-a-fuck. He’s literally killed the last several people who showed any interest in him. Of course, I have my favorite pairing for him, (winking at Sifo-Dyas’s frozen corpse in a glass fairytale coffin in the basement of Castle Serenno) but I support and applaud fans who ship him otherwise -- Sidious, Jango, Grievous, go ham, etc, it’s very easy for me to picture. Of course, the sex is a net loss for the galaxy, it doesn’t fix anybody and it sure makes everyone worse, but it seems very conceivable that it happened. There’s a core, pathetic neediness in the character, and a desire to find shortcuts to replace the humanity he’s rejected within himself. In this essay–
