tos spirk fic writers you know i love you
and i do hate to break it to you, but i really don’t think that these chairs
would allow for very much straddling to occur
#it happens so much in the fics i read#and every time i’m stuck for a while trying to figure out if that’s even possible#NOW the captains chair#that’s a different story#straddling in the captains chair i can believe#but this either chairs i just don’t think there’s room#and are they bolted down? they probably are right?#if not then that is a serious tipping risk#star trek#star trek tos#spirk#tos spirk#tos#tos spock#spock#leonard nimoy

Excuse the quality of my camera but in the midst of reorganising. Not settled on it yet but it’s all getting there. A few have been lost through the years or parts such as cape. Shelf below will be for Frieza and Dodoria which is slowly coming together. Just a small update I suppose heh…
Ah the random Porygon2 is an inside joke, that’s not just randomly there for no reason. Let’s just say it’s one of Zarbon’s greatest tortured hehe~
As usual if a closer view of anything is wanted ask away.
Oh and the Dodoria section! Getting there.
I’m sorry I can’t collect Zarbon and not give him a ‘friend’.

Tav could show Karlach anything. Like anything. A beetle. A frog. A smooth rock. And she would at least try to feign interest like ‘well that’s not really my wheelhouse but..good on you!’
And Lae’zel is almost the inverse. Tav could show her the rarest jewel or best ore or most bitchin armor and she could find a way to butt in how the Githyanki has been there, done that, and paved a better way with the most awe inspiring violence known to man and space
#sobbing bc I love the bg3 cast so much#too bad my Tav is too much of a lolth brain to fully appreciate#yet???? I haven’t decided#maybe she still can#but if you show Lae’zel some muscles and strength#that’s a different story

What was that you said about memory? "A monster," was it?
#iwtvedit#iwtv#interview with the vampire#louis de pointe du lac#armand#lestat de lioncourt#daniel molloy#anyway obviously these are at different periods and contexts in their lives but nonetheless#i'm fascinated by the different versions of characters we see filtered through who is telling the story at that moment#how they remember themselves and how they remember others#and the gaps in this set are just as interesting! season 3 maybe i can do a follow up#how does lestat see himself. how does he see armand or louis#how would daniel see him? etc

We're not appreciating the Weird Barbie enough. It's said in the movie that she helps everyone who need help while they always see her as someone who's not as good as them. She was friends with all dismissed Barbies and Kens, was there to offer support and safe shelter for everyone who needed it in Kendom, without her nothing in the movie would've been alright. When Stereotypical Barbie calls her "ugly and unwanted" she still helps her.
She was representing a woman in women's world who was pushed aside by other women because she didn't fit in but still had more wisdom and kindness than everyone who thought they're better than her.
#weird barbie#barbie#Barbie movie#everyone looks at her as a queer person i see her as me I'm a straight person who got bullied simply for being different than the rest#but it's beautiful that we all see ourselves in her whatever our story is#cuz that's the point of characters like her#i changed wisness to wisdom sorry english isn't my first language and i forgot which one is more correct

the fact that shakespeare was a playwright is sometimes so funny to me. just the concept of the "greatest writer of the English language" being a random 450-year-old entertainer, a 16th cent pop cultural sensation (thanks in large part to puns & dirty jokes & verbiage & a long-running appeal to commoners). and his work was made to be watched not read, but in the classroom teachers just hand us his scripts and say "that's literature"
just...imagine it's 2450 A.D. and English Lit students are regularly going into 100k debt writing postdoc theses on The Simpsons screenplays. the original animation hasn't even been preserved, it's literally just scripts and the occasional SDH subtitles.txt. they've been republished more times than the Bible
#due to the Great Data Decay academics write viciously argumentative articles on which episodes aired in what order#at conferences professors have known to engage in physically violent altercations whilst debating the air date number of household viewers#90% of the couch gags have been lost and there is a billion dollar trade in counterfeit “lost copies”#serious note: i'll be honest i always assumed it was english imperialism that made shakespeare so inescapable in the 19th/20th cent#like his writing should have become obscure at the same level of his contemporaries#but british imperialists needed an ENGLISH LANGUAGE (and BRITISH) writer to venerate#and shakespeare wrote so many damn things that there was a humongous body of work just sitting there waiting to be culturally exploited...#i know it didn't happen like this but i imagine a English Parliament House Committee Member For The Education Of The Masses or something#cartoonishly stumbling over a dusty cobwebbed crate labelled the Complete Works of Shakespeare#and going 'Eureka! this shall make excellent propoganda for fabricating a national identity in a time of great social unrest.#it will be a cornerstone of our elitist educational institutions for centuries to come! long live our decaying empire!'#'what good fortune that this used to be accessible and entertaining to mainstream illiterate audience members...#..but now we can strip that away and make it a difficult & alienating foundation of a Classical Education! just like the latin language :)'#anyway maybe there's no such thing as the 'greatest writer of x language' in ANY language?#maybe there are just different styles and yes levels of expertise and skill but also a high degree of subjectivity#and variance in the way that we as individuals and members of different cultures/time periods experience any work of media#and that's okay! and should be acknowledged!!! and allow us to give ourselves permission to broaden our horizons#and explore the stories of marginalized/underappreciated creators#instead of worshiping the List of Top 10 Best (aka Most Famous) Whatevers Of All Time/A Certain Time Period#anyways things are famous for a reason and that reason has little to do with innate “value”#and much more to do with how it plays into the interests of powerful institutions motivated to influence our shared cultural narratives#so i'm not saying 'stop teaching shakespeare'. but like...maybe classrooms should stop using it as busy work that (by accident or designs)#happens to alienate a large number of students who could otherwise be engaging critically with works that feel more relevant to their world#(by merit of not being 4 centuries old or lacking necessary historical context or requiring untaught translation skills)#and yeah...MAYBE our educational institutions could spend less time/money on shakespeare critical analysis and more on...#...any of thousands of underfunded areas of literary research i literally (pun!) don't know where to begin#oh and p.s. the modern publishing world is in shambles and it would be neat if schoolwork could include modern works?#beautiful complicated socially relevant works of literature are published every year. it's not just the 'classics' that have value#and actually modern publications are probably an easier way for students to learn the basics. since lesson plans don't have to include the#important historical/cultural context many teens need for 20+ year old media (which is older than their entire lived experience fyi)

those first couple weeks after escaping a time loop have gotta be disorienting as all fuck. all those little cues that used to tell you what's about to happen are now triggers that cause you to brace for something that isn't coming. you have to relearn the permanence of death -- hell, you have reacquaint yourself with the entire concept of finality altogether. everything keeps changing but it never changes back and you keep having to remind yourself that this is normal. "it won't reset anymore," you echo to yourself, over and over and over, like a broken record, like you're still trapped in a loop, like someone who escaped the time loop but was doomed to bring it into the future with them
#orcspeak#edit: this is not about fanfic nor is it about a specific fanfic nor is it about a specific show or movie or book#this post is about the time loop trope itself which occurs in many different stories spanning many different art forms#i don't read or write fanfic and I'm not looking for fanfic recs and whatever character you think this is about there's#an 80 percent chance i don't recognize their name

don bluth films occupy a weird space because he's both inarguably an auteur who directs very strange, earnest, often "ugly" films but also a guy who near exclusively made movies for 8 year olds in the home video era. so basically everything he's ever done is a grimy, dreamy rumination on death and spirituality and has a direct to video sequel called something like secret of nimh 2: mrs. brisby's holiday adventure
#this happens to a lot of family films obviously#but i can't really think of another director that has a familiar divide between a very stylistic and thematically specific body of work#and direct to video kids movie-quality sequels#the sequels to musker and clements films don't really have the same severe difference in tone to the originals#what happened to neverending story didn't happen to every wolfgang peterson movie#etc

It's always "Hades isn't bad or cruel, his deeds are just metaphors of the inevitable death" or "Hades kidnapping Persephone represent the premature death".
But when the argument "Zeus has numerous affairs and many children because he represent the fertile rain" is brought up, all nuance is suddenly out of the window and Zeus is just a womanizer who can't keep it in his pants.
#hades#zeus#greek mythology#greek gods#greek deities#cherry picking who should be condemned for their “crimes” and who can be excused because “their action is metaphorical”#just shows your ridiculous hypocrisy#if you're gonna judge the gods at least put all of them on the same standard#or maybe - i don't know - understand that you're not in the place to judge the deities from a different culture???#i admit i used to have a “Hades good/Zeus bad” phase too#but i'm growing out of it because in the end i'm only reading the stories from another country

I'm a lesbian and i see myself in media about bi women, also in media about gay/bi men. even if it's not Entirely made for me, it's still for me. and I know and hope that other gay/bi people are able to see parts of themselves in lesbian media. sorry to be cheesy but we are more similar than we are different and it's those experiences we share that draw us to these stories in the first place, and the reason we're even telling them <3
#how one can go about judging/critiquing these stories from our specific perspectives is a different story though#but whatever. everyone go watch black sails#cin#film#d

There's a version of the "don't go grocery shopping while hungry" rule specifically for writers where you should never under any circumstances be allowed to touch your draft within 3 hours of reading a really good story. Because sometimes when you read something great your head goes "fuck this is so much better than my stuff I should make that more like THIS instead!" Look at me. That's the devil talking and you should close the document NOW.
#you will make superficial edits that do not gell well with the rest of your work#and won't actually capture what you thought was so good about that story#close the doc. sit down. think about it for a while. inspiration is fine. getting a 'eureka' moment from another story is fine#but if you find yourself comparing your work one to one with someone else's and taking any differences to be flaws on your part then STOP#you will never write good stuff by trying to make it look less like you wrote it#writing#writing advice#guess who just had to go into her google doc history and undo a bunch of panic-induced edits#because she read a fic about the same characters she's writing for?#meeee. they aged badly within just a few hours of hindsight. learn from my mistakes#self-hatred is not a good motivation for creation#fic writing
