Okay psych nerd here who is not going to bloat this with a tag explanation and instead just write the thing:
The answer is two things -
Dehumanization / Distancing from Humanity
Moral Psychology
Here's an example in action. So I'm sure everyone knows about the Trolley Problem - you are standing near a train track at the track switch, an out of control train barrelling down the rails. On one of the tracks, are a group of men working on the rails (or tied to the rails if you prefer the image version). If you do nothing, it will collide with the group of people and kill them. On the other hand, if you use the switch and change the track, it'll instead kill just one person. This one people can reasonably complete, the usual choice being kill one to save five or whatever.
But here is another version. The Fat Man Trolley Problem (not my wording). In this version of the Trolley Problem, you are standing on a bridge overpass of a traintrack. Next to you is a very large man. Below you, are the five workmen. The train is out of control, but you realise if you push the fat man off the bridge and onto the track, his mass will be enough to stop the train and save the five people on the track. What do you do?
Naturally, this one prompted visceral reactions from people it was pitched to in studies - which begs the question, how is this version different from the switch problem? In both problems, you have the choice to sacrifice one to save many, but the mere thought of having to physically push another person onto the tracks crosses a line.
That's because a switch distances you from the situation, in a sense, you are removed from the humanity in the decision making and it's pure logic. Harm is a side-effect of flicking the switch, in a way you are less involved. Having to push the man, however, is forcing you to confront the human-ness of the situation, to look someone in the face and make that decision.
A lot of the problems in the world, and their respective government entities who are supposed to be fixing them, often have zero experience in the very thing they're supposed to be solving. They're sitting in an office, far, far away looking at a bunch of numbers spat out by a consulting agency while there are homeless in the streets. The switch they pull is so far away they can't even see the people their decisions affect. And if they think less of the people they are making decisions over, like the very, very, very obviously misplaced idea that homelessness is somehow caused by moral failing - that will distance them from the humanity of the situation even further.
I think back to an article I read about someone who had lost their husband to suicide after many, many, many years struggling, went to a conference regarding mental health. The participants of this conference would be the ones making major decisions that would affect the health and outcomes of other people. She confronts one of them, and asks them - have you ever been affected by depression? have you ever had someone in your family been affected?
He seemed shocked and startled. But he answered no.
That should say everything. Anyway this is why I think it should be mandatory for anyone forming country-wide, dramatically-impactful policies in government, especially regarding minorities and poverty - should have a MANDATORY amount of hours they have to spend per year with said people who will be affected by their decisions. And none of this distanced hand shaking for the cameras, I mean living that experience as closely as possible.
It's not that humanity is dead. It's not that we get up with the intention of causing harm every day. It's just a fact of psychological distancing that causes us to lose our connection with it. This can be unintentional, but sometimes it is intentional. It's often a tactic in war propaganda, to cast the enemy in such an evil light that the idea of killing many to protect or save your people - even if it's women and children, and disabled and elderly people, and civilians - is somehow justified.
So the next time you vote or support a cause or whatever in your life that may end up influencing the situation of people, outside of your known experience - stop for a moment, and have a think about what it is like for those individuals. If you had to physically go to them, and look them in the eyes - would you make the same decisions?
Also vote for people with lived experience into those positions to make the decisions when you can!
It confuses me how normalized it is to be so anti human. The fact that two countries voted no to food being a human right. The fact so many people are against universal healthcare. The fact that it’s normal to believe some people don’t deserve housing because they’re poor, addicts, mentally ill, or any combination of the above. I find it so hard to comprehend that humans who have experienced hunger, thirst, cold, and illness would wish these things upon others, or at the very least not care. It frustrates me beyond belief.
These are the exact values we’re taught as children, to believe all humans are equal in worth and needs, and yet at some point you’re expected to grow out of that illusion. You’re expected to accept that this is what life’s like, that the world is unfair, and attempting to fix it makes you weak and childish.
#psychology#social commentary#knowing this helps me feel better about humanity cause it's often not malice it's ignorance + fun psychological quirks we can't help#but there are people who deliberately distance themselves and actually /fear/ confrontation with the reality that's being lived#this is why you get billionaires doubling down on insane statements - they're using a switch that might as well be on another PLANET#they also double down because it's psychologically perceived as a threat - that their idea might be wrong and makes them a bad person#brains will bend over backwards to keep that homeostatic nice feeling going#even if it means believing a lie#even if it means committing genocide#the most proactive thing you can do is pushback and confront these people making decisions#make them look you in the eyes#also re: wanting to fix the thing makes you childish - I think it's a lot of media oversaturation basically giving us compassion fatigue#so anyone seeing it happen is like 'why bother' and may put you down for it to amend their OWN cognitive dissonance they're the bad person#suicide mention#suicide tw#not detailed just very loosely mentioned

Hi Anó! Do you have any advice for writing characters like killer? How do you achive that nuance? I love your comics and would love to learn about your artistic process a bit!
Hi Gal!! A delight to see you in my inbox! <3
Omg thank you sm hcchhcchch (have you seen your own comics???? *shakes you* /pos)
Ok but I say this genuinely, I think your ideas and comics are such a beautiful and refreshing take on these blorbos, you’re doing such an amazing job both writing and art wise (your 2 Killers idea is so fucking good eeeeee) <3333
Ok to the question xgzggxzg
Killer is definitely.. complicated to write, I struggle with him sometimes ngl shshhdh
I honestly went and reread his entire comics, lore and answered asks to get a deeper look into him to be able to write him
But when it comes to writing him, I generally try to keep 6 things in mind at all times
1-trauma: how does the resets, working for Chara, having his code get manipulated and killing over and over again till what was new became something old affect him? (the whole idea of Killer killing people started as an offer of trying something new, so he kept killing till he got bored and killing became something stagnant)
This can easily be portrayed in Killer’s canon inability to till what’s real or not, as well as his hallucinations and the guilt he’s ridden with, always running from his past yet never outrunning it, as it always catches up to him
2- conditioning: his conditioning started from the days of Chara, then continued into his days with Nightmare, how does his conditioning affect him in his daily life?
How was he conditioned specifically? And how does that contribute to Killer’s perception of self, autonomy, self worth, and life in general? How does it change his body and mind?
Does it make him believe he’s just a machine meant to please others even when it hurts him, does it make Killer perceive vulnerability as a death sentence
How does he feel about his masters? Does he hate them down to every bone, or does he not care?
3-personality: Killer’s personality always change depending on the stage, but what are the main traits that you know Killer will always have regardless of the stage? Being quiet is one thing, he keeps to himself (as much as the fandom loves to portray him as extremely hyperactive, he’s not at all the loud, talkative, hyperactive skelle the fandom makes him out to be)
He’s also extremely secretive, seems to have knowledge that others don’t, and seems to always be up for a social interaction regardless of who’s with him
He’s also actually extremely patient (another thing the fandom stripped away from Killer’s character), and is very docile (isn’t aggressive unless pushed and never is an attack on sight kinda person) yet holds a grudge big time
He seems to see himself as superior over others, he’s extremely fucking intelligent it’s actually scary
These traits are something I try to keep consistent within my writing for Killer
4- relationships: what are his relationships with other characters like, and why?
Taking the 3 points before into consideration, how does Killer’s trauma, conditioning, and personality make him perceive others and others perceive him?
Are his relationships healthy? Toxic? Are they one sided or mutual? Does he care about the person in his vicinity or are they just another nobody? If he cares why? If he doesn’t what would he do to them?
Would he take advantage of his relationship with someone or is it a relationship he wishes for it to vanish?
5-stages: I think this is truly what makes Killer extremely complicated, cause see all of the 4 points above? how does each stage differ from each other?
How does stage 1 deal with his guilt/truama and conditioning? How does stage 2, 3, and 4 deal with them?
Depending on each stage Killer’s outward perception, personality, attitude, thoughts, and actions change
But how do they change exactly?
This is something that you need to understand each stage for to be able to integrate into writing
Stage 1 is the stage where he’s most sans like, yet never sans enough, stage 2 is when he’s apathetic to everyone and everything and perceives killing as “fun” because he’s painfully understimulated , stage 3 is when he’d attack whoever is in front of him, and stage 4 is when killer is no longer present mentally
How does each stage deal with his environment, with the people around him, how does he deal with the dissociation and how does he perceive himself in each stage?
6-environments: how does the environment Killer lives in affect him?
Killer starts in an environment of time loops, how does that affect his perception of time and reality? He then becomes Nightmare’s subordinate, a dangerous environment with constant threats to his life from every angle, how does Killer feel about it? How does he deal with it?
Will he get to try his luck and escape, or has he given up on himself and the idea of freedom? Does he even believe he has a chance for a better life in a safer environment? Will he go for a safer environment or will he cling to the comfort of what he knows?
When he does finally go to a safer environment, how would that affect him? Both positively and negatively? Would he feel like something is missing? Would his mind constantly tell him that this safe environment isn’t really safe?
Then of course, beyond these main 6 things, there’s the in between, what are Killer’s likes? His dislikes? How does he feel about sleep, food?
Generally when writing characters, it’s important to keep in mind interpersonal factors, intrapersonal factors and environmental factors that ends up affecting the character’s behavior, or in this specific situation, Killer’s behavior (god I’m realizing how much my uni major affects my writing of characters rn chchc)
But I say the biggest life saving advice I have that helps with writing characters in general (and especially complicated ones like Killer) is having the question “why” as your closest friend
When you make a statement about a character, in this instance Killer, always attach the question “why” at the end till you can’t attach it anymore, until you reach a point where asking “why” becomes unnecessary and annoying
For example:
“Killer loves golden flower tea”
Why?
It reminds him of the bed of golden flowers he passed out on
Why does that matter?
Because it was the point of no return from a change that will always dictate who he is
Why is it a point of no return?
Because his soul had deformed beyond recognition and it can never be brought back to how it used to be
Why would it dictate who he is? Why can’t he just choose to be someone else?
Because he was conditioned to be this killer by a higher power out of his control
At this point, there are no more “why”s that would make something as simple as a golden flower tea statement more nuanced than it already is, so when you ask why again, you find that you’re unable to continue giving an answer, that’s the point of where you stop
In fact, allow me to test you by giving you a quick question about your own interpretation of the characters, why does your Nightmare admire Error? What is in Error that Nightmare admires specifically?
Of course, you don’t really need to answer me, but I’m just giving you an example of how asking “why” can help you make so many simple things more nuanced
Ok but what if you know there should be an answer to a “why” but you don’t know it yet? Then you keep it in mind for later, you won’t always have the answers to everything on the get go, sometimes, you need a bit of time to figure things out and write characters the way you feel satisfy you, until then, you can work on other things about the characters
*Cough* anyway, this is honestly everything I can think of off the top of my head? Hopefully I didn’t miss anything ydfhgchchchc
Do let me know if you’d like any more help or need clarification on anything, I’d be happy to help where I can <33333
Now have a sketch of your 2 Killers cause I love them dearly, they have a special place in my heart (genuinely adore how you write Killer already btw)

Things I think the fandom needs to remember sometimes
-Ponyboy is not a loner or unpopular. He admits to having a lot of friends at school, and a few of them even visit him when he gets out of the hospital, though he notes it makes him uncomfortable that his middle class friends get to see where he lives. Which brings me to my next point;
-The gang does not spend all their time together, or even most of it. Yes they’re all friends, very CLOSE friends- yes, even Steve and Ponyboy- but they have lives outside of the gang. Pony has school friends, Darry has work or old school friends he skis with, Soda and Steve are inseparable to a degree that their outside lives overlap and their identities within the gang are also interwoven, but they all very much have lives outside the gang. Two bit has his mom and little sister and a revolving door of girls. Dallas only shows up when he feels like it and he lives at bucks and jockeys in the races. Johnny couch surfs at the curtis’ and Two’s place, but he also regularly camps out in the lot and presumably crashes at Dally’s place sometimes too. Yeah, he’s Ponyboy’s best friend, but they’re not inseparable the way Steve and Soda are. It’s a different dynamic. The whole group has lives outside of the gang and I think it’s important to remember this.
-The term ‘greaser’ is a derogatory term and originated in the 1800s as a slur against Mexican immigrants. It coloquial meaning changed when readopted by the greaser subculture in the 1950s and 60s (according to wikipedia), to primarily refer to lower working class individuals of mexican or italian ancestry, and becoming more ethnically ambiguous, but it still wasn’t widely used outside the subculture itself. Ponyboy is white, but he probably has some Italian ancestry which is characteristic of the greaser subculture, and he identifies with the word- but it’s still a more loaded term than the fandom sometimes pretends, and it still has racial undertones, regardless of how it’s portrayed in the novel and how it moved away from it's historically primarily racialised usage when adopted by the greaser subculture. Ponyboy makes a point of saying in the book that it’s okay for himself and the gang and others of their social group to use it, but when people outside the group call him it it ‘doesn’t make him feel so hot’. I think this helps illustrate that yeah, it’s an offensive term. ‘Greaser’ carries weight and I think it’s important for the fandom to recognise that.
-Darry is trying, but he isn’t a good guardian, and if he was then his character would not be redeemable after The Slap. The reason Darry Curtis as a character is so sympathetic is because he is twenty years old and trying his best, and his best is never good enough. If Darry was a well equipped guardian who was able to parent Pony AND Soda AND the gang (to an extent) the way his parents did, then him slapping Ponyboy would be unforgivable. It would be the action of a brute instead of the action of an overwhelmed older brother forgetting his new role as guardian. The reason Darry is forgivable and so beloved is because he is not perfect, or even good, at his role but he keeps trying and choosing to be present for his brothers over and over. (Remember, he had to fight very hard for custody, probably harder than Ponyboy realizes.)
-The portrayal of every female character is biased by Ponyboy’s narration- and Ponyboy has a lot of internalized misogyny and classism. It makes sense that he holds these ideas, considering the time period and the male dominated environment he grew up in where (presumably) the only woman he ever had any sort of close relationship with was his mother, but it doesn’t make it any less true. However, the women themselves are few and far between but incredibly important characters. I’ve spoken about it before but I think Sandy’s character and her unplanned teenage pregnancy sheds a small amount of light on how poverty affects women as opposed to men, something the book largely lacks due to the only main(ish) female character being upper class; whereas Sylvia serves as a foil to Dally, and is essentially written to be the offscreen ‘female version’ of him, basically a representation of the ‘worst’ sort of greaser girl while Dally is the ‘worst’ kind of greaser. The only reason these women receive so much hate is because of misogyny- don’t pretend it’s just about the cheating, because it’s not- and if you want to hear further takes on them you can read my thoughts on the misogyny in the fandom here, and my thoughts on Sandy here. Even Cherry, whom Ponyboy views positively, is viewed that way because of Ponyboy's biased ideas of what makes a girl 'good' and worthy of respect.
-Ponyboy has a fairly negative view of alcohol and alcoholism, but has a very addictive personality. Ponyboy has tried alcohol but didn’t like the way it made him feel. However, his view of Two-bit, while positive, seems to find him less brave than the rest of the gang as he drinks before the rumble, and Ponyboy ‘would hate to see the day he had to get his nerve from a can’. Soda’s reluctance to drink or smoke also adds to Ponyboy’s worship of him, despite the fact that Ponyboy is addicted to nicotine and caffeine respectively and it has the potential to be his undoing more than anything else in the east side.
-The entire story is built on grief. Johnny and Dally are doomed from the start, and Ponyboy mentions his parents' deaths from the first few pages. But loss of a loved one is not the sole type of grief the novel covers. Darry mourns the life he could have had, Soda mourns his imagined future with Sandy, and by the end of the novel Ponyboy is mourning his childhood and loss of innocence. I could go on, but I think the effect of grief is sometimes missing from analysis or canon compliant fanworks, when it is quite literally the driving force behind the story.

i really need Stans to get tf out of the Critical tag...
Y'all mfs are annoying af; acting morally superior while defending someone who celebrates peoples misery, cuz she's a miserable human being.
idgaf if wtf you think she is so glorious for, she's a terrible human being and honestly deserves to be dragged through the mud. Not for her bad writing, ofc not; For her deplorable actions to other people.
idc if you kin her characters or like to ship them, or whatever.
No one deserves to be harassed by a woman in her 30s and her fandom;
No one deserves to be discredited by a woman in her 30s and her fandom;
No one deserves to be silenced by a woman in her 30s and her fandom;
No one deserves to suffer, cuz of a fucking immature woman in her 30s and her fandom, doesnt know how to behave.
No one parent should have to bury their child over something as mundane as shipping.
Igaf if you think the writing of the show is fan-fucking-tastic
NO ONE DESERVES, WHAT VIV HAS PUT PEOPLE THROUGH
I do not care.
everyone who has been affected by Viv and her actions, and her fandoms actions, whether directly or indirectly, im so fucking sorry you have to put up with the constant vitriol of being called insane and ignored for seeing genuine flaws in a person and/or their work.

I always look forward to seeing these types of posts on my feed, as it gets me thinking about what writing goals I'd like to achieve or set. As well as, see the goals/accomplishments of other fellow writes.
My answers are below, and keep reblogging with yours. :)
💖 Might be a tad small, but I'd like to achieve at least 50 fanfics by the end of this year. Weather they're requests/prompts or ideas of my own.
🛳 Maybe dive more into platonic ships. As I do favourite romance.
🤔 I would like to write one shots/series for under rated characters. Such as Crosshairs, Hound, Bulkhead (and more) from Transformers, Abe Sapien from Hellboy, etc.
🥸 My sister knows, and has read a couple of mine. As we often share ideas, inspiration, character/fandom ideas etc, since she also writes fanfics. My husband is aware that I write fanfics, but he doesn't quite know exactly what kind of things I write. But I don't plan on telling anyone else.
🥵 100% yes.
👻 Maybe more in depth the with action genre. And step out of my comfort zone by exploring horror or dark elements.
🦄 I do prefer 2nd person. But might write a fic in 1st or 3rd.
🐌 May not be writing goals exactly. But organizing my drafts better, as there has been a few fics that sat there for months collecting dust.
🦖 I'd like to get back into Hellboy, as I realize that I abandoned a series idea years ago. And my attempt at it really needs to be re-written, as I don't like how it sounds anymore. I might also do more anime fandoms, but the faze tends to come and go for me.
🍄 DC Comics/Universe. Although I'm mainly a Marvel fan, there has been a few ideas I've had, that would better suit DC characters.
🌈 It may not be research, but I do tend to read a few fanfics or orgianal fics of fandoms I'm new/returning to. As well as, binge watching TV/movies of that character/fandom.
But I also do research on writing. (Sub-genres/plots. Kinks/fetishes. Cliches. Building motivation, organization, writing goals. etc.)
✨ I'd say my use of deceptive language and onomatopoeias. And how I try to use other writing techniques to immerse readers that little more.
🥕 Certainly my grammar, as I've noticed a few spelling mistakes over the time. And my sense of scale and anatomy, I appreciate people telling me how way off I've been in my past fics and how it affected their reading experience.
🫘 I'm actually planning on writing a young adult, fantasy novel with OCs. And I've recently started up on Fiverr for writing commissions.
🥳 I'd probably just give myself a cheat day from my diet and exercise. Or buy that thing I've been eyeing up for ages.
🎃 I've actually been meaning to write seasonal fics. But the time I have a moment to write, or the idea comes to me, the season's over. But certainly gonna try and give those ago this year.
🐾 Another thing that's been on my 'To Do List' for a while, and would like to try to participate at least one or two this year.
✍️ Honestly it would have to be comments. Not the amount of comments, but just comments in general- even if it's just one or two. As that's the main way people have given me valuable feedback, and it helps me grow to be better writer.
👾 I'm honestly not sure what 'bad' writing habits, that I may have. There's bound to be a good few that I don't notice, and would try and break them if they're pointed out to me.
🤖 I mainly use my laptop or phone for writing for convenience. As I do tend to do a bit of writing on my breaks at work, but I suppose having an area dedicated to me writing at home wouldn't be too bad.
🦷 I'm currently working on two different series for the Transformers fandom. One is for the character Knockout in TFP, I love this character and have many ideas for the series, but he's mainly seen as asexual in the fandom. I agree and respect the views of this character, but since I don't really have anyone in my friends/family that identifies as asexual, I'm honestly worried I may accidentally misrepresent the character and/or those who identifies as such.
💥 I have an idea for a one shot for The Joker from DC- Suicide Squad. As the one-shot I've got planned is an semi original idea, and many dark elements that would challenge me, and get me out of my comfort zone.
🍕 Due to my part time job, and personal commitments. I do only write/post things whenever I have a free moment to dedicate an hour or two to this hobby. But I'd would like to try and post more per month, but also not to flood anyone's feed.
🛏 I'm sure there's a few tropes/cliches that I've already written for. But I'd like to write 'bed one' or 'cuddle for warmth' cliche, as they're surprisingly the ones I don't write about. Yet they're my favourite.
🪩 Might be a little controversial, but don't be afraid to give your reader a nickname or codename in your fics. For example, in my Transformer fics, Reader is an military officer so they have an nickname such as 'Lieutenant Echo' or 'Private Valkyrie.' As to me, these give the Reader a little more depth and personality to their character, and doesn't take them out of the reading experience by reading 'Y/N' over and over.
🎉 In all honesty? Probably not, as just like anyone. I'm my own worst critic.
💌 Yep! Those sort of things keeps my motivation going, and gets me out of writer's block sometimes.

someone: do you think anders is a good person
the part of my brain that engages in genuine critical media analysis: i think it's disingenuous to label him through the lens of a binary good/evil paradigm because what makes him such an interesting and engaging character is his status inbetween a human with complex emotions and desires and flaws that will never fully align with each other, and the singleminded focus and purpose of a supernatural entity that is literally justice incarnate and has no capacity for nuance and whose very nature is fundamentally incompatible with humanity but the two of them are so deeply connected that they make up a single identity that's constantly at odds with itself and this struggle causes him to act in ways that aren't always clean and often land him and those around him in impossible positions. i think he was morally justified in doing what he did to the chantry but i also believe he understood the magnitude of what he was doing which is why i inherently disagree with the notion that characters like varric or sebastian were wrong in their reactions because that's the very nature of violent revolution—people get caught in the crossfire and are harmed despite their innocence and regardless of the righteousness of the action at large. if someone killed your mom to protect a hundred orphans you probably wouldn't come out of the experience full of love and admiration for the person who killed your mother because regardless of the outcome they still fucking killed your mother. anders destroyed people's homes and lives and there's a conversation to be had about how he gaslit and exploited hawke, his own potential lover, into being an unwitting accomplice even though we know through meta knowledge that he was perfectly capable of doing it on his own and very likely only wanted hawke's involvement because he needed a powerful figure to become the rallying symbol for his cause. the reality is his very nature would have never allowed him to choose hawke and his friends over his goal because to do so would have been fundamentally selfish and antithetical to his newfound identity as one who champions the needs of the many at the expense of the individual. it's a beautifully tragic story about the lengths a person would have to go to in order to enact any sort of meaningful change while constrained in a system that benefits from their powerlessness, and how that process cannot exist without suffering and pain on both the individual and collective level. i also feel like if anders was written by a person with a degree of compassion and awareness for not only the character they were writing but just what living as a vulnerable and targeted minority is like then the narrative and message would have been vastly different than what ended up on screen because, ultimately, the game wants you to look at the stark injustice of a child being ripped away from their family to spend a life locked away in cold isolation where they're at constant risk of exploitation, abuse, death, and even a complete removal of their personhood, and think that there's room for compromise. it's a narrative that perpetuates the myth that passivity and tolerance in the face of oppression is more virtuous than burdening the masses with the discomfort of seeing their own culpability in sustaining it. a better game would have challenged varric and sebastian while also affirming their anger instead of just the latter. a better game would have explored hawke's reaction in a deeper manner that examined their relationship with the system, their own internal biases, and how anders affected their worldview.
the part of my brain that was on tumblr in 2014 and is still extremely petty and spiteful: he should have blown up the conclave while he was at it

And this is one of the countless reasons I love chatting about Mafin with @midniteowlet: she's my very own toma a Tierra and grounds me, so I can approach things more rationally.
Upon concluding our debate of the current turn of events on the show, Mafin on the whole and their narrative? I've come to look at things as follows. The show very much reflects society as it is: a sad state of affairs where good people hurt and unsavory characters often prevail. The fact that we want everything good and wholesome to triumph at every turn? Idealistic, not realistic. Not to mention lofty expectations actually prevent one from truly appreciating the show, with all its ups and downs and winding roads. And personally, I'd like to keep enjoying it, without getting dragged down the utopian rabbit-hole.
For the most part, the representation we get is actually well crafted: Mafin feels organic, tried and true, and the chemistry between them is undeniable and thrilling. More so? Their story doesn't feel forced and thus, can be promoted to any viewership without it coming across as preachy and condescending, or having an agenda. If anything, Mafin is by far the best developed, healthiest relationship on the show. I, for one, much prefer the portrayal of good communication, heartfelt romance and overcoming obstacles together than a deluge of r-rated scenes. And honestly? We are being offered a damn good story here, even as it fails to satisfy everyone's hopes and demands (which in all honesty, it never could - at the end of the day, someone will always be disappointed)
I'm also reminded of Marta B. mentioning in a recent interview that the show is not aimed exclusively at the sapphic community. As such, it will not depict or cater to its particular needs. It's part of a larger ensemble and needs to appeal to a broad audience. And, when all is said and done, it actually manages to accomplish more with this kind of storytelling: one that's simpler, one that doesn't try to be pedantic. Ergo, they will not linger and preach to the audience. What they will do instead is allow the characters, their circumstances and actions, to speak for themselves. And they will trust they're doing a good enough job to let people draw their own conclusions. So far, I think they've achieved that: there’s heterosexual people watching the novela who love Mafin and think they’re the best couple on the show, there’s elderly people learning to be more open-minded, everyone loves Damian's character development, everyone hates Santiago and acknowledges he is a despicable lowlife etc. The show is moving the pieces along the board quite deftly and it makes for an interesting, if not always gratifying, game.
As for today's episode? There's no doubt that Marta and Fina only have eyes for each other. They're an established couple who will face anything thrown their way as they always have, as one. No mustachioed men will ever change that. Marta and Fina's narrative will never be whether they desperately adore each other. That they do couldn’t be more obvious. Their story? Ever has it been, and will continue to be, about their fight to attain freedom: freedom to live their love in a society that forbids it.
Therefore, I've reached the point where I'm not worried at all about either Santiago or Pelayo. Based on Pelayo's reaction upon learning Marta is a lesbian? I doubt he'll help Santiago in his attempt to sink Marta's ships. To me he comes across as a calculated businessman, but not a heartless one. He stands to profit more from a partnership with the de la Reina family than throwing Marta to the wolves. He also didn't bat an eye at Santiago's reveal, wasn't surprised or outraged. Which, I'll go out on a limb and say, is telling. He's either gay himself or simply plans on advancing his business / political career by securing a partner that won't demand his attention or affection. The first scenario ensures he remains socially upstanding while the second allows him to live as he pleases. To a man like Pelayo? It's a jackpot either way. Hopefully, the benefits outweigh the costs for Marta as well, should the plot move in that direction. And given all the signs? It's already halfway there.
That being said. It remains to be seen what happens to Santiago. I assume, and hope, his little ploy at denouncing Marta to the Civil Guard will cost him, dearly or otherwise. His own thirst for vengeance pushed him to make the wrong move which is, in my opinion, seeking out Pelayo. And while there's plenty of outraged cries that Marta & Fina don't need another man to save them? Let's not forget it's 1958. The likelihood of neither of them attracting a suitor, fake or otherwise unwelcome, is as doubtful as improbable. The fact they managed to successfully evade them so far? Quite the feat.
As for what awaits? Marta won't go to jail, I think, since that card has already been played. Or who knows? We might be surprised. The fear they need to instill in her requires new heights, in order for Marta to reluctantly accept another cage. Mind you, she's still trapped: as much freedom as she currently wields, Marta remains a woman whose very social status entraps her, singling her out as prime real estate. She's the proverbial golden goose, especially as dictated by the mores of society back then. Marta and Fina's shared dream of freedom remains, for now, a dream. One they've almost had at their fingertips, which makes their current circumstances all the more painful. I will say: it stings that Fina won't be the first to read Marta's journal. Undoubtedly, at some point, she will. After all, that journal is a mirror of Marta's very heart. It lays out her deepest fears, her innermost longings. It chronicles the fiercest battles Marta has had to wage with herself, her losses and triumphs, her meditations and hymns, the anguish and the deliverance of her love for Fina. To have it fall into the wrong hands? A violation of the utmost personal, a desecration of what is deemed sacred and untouchable. The diary symbolizes Marta having a safe space to call her own, one where she was allowed to embrace her true self, one that initiated her journey to freedom, her quest to rid herself of her shackles. Santiago has no honorable bone in his body and his hatred towards women, and Marta in particular, drives him to invade and vandalize her privacy, this blessed sanctuary she got to call her own. Let's see if Pelayo rises to the occasion and proves himself as a noble character. You can never have too many allies. Do I still take issue with how certain things are handled, with the inconsistencies and shoddy character work? Definitely. But I’m also able to simply sit back and enjoy. Let's see where all this goeth, shall we? Hello pain, let's go again.

Guide: How Not to Let Others Anger You
1. Understand the Source of Your Anger
Identify Triggers: Reflect on why certain comments or actions upset you. Is it tied to personal insecurities, past experiences, or values?
Separate Intentions: Recognize that not all actions are meant to provoke you. Some people may act out of ignorance, stress, or misunderstanding.
2. Develop Emotional Awareness
Recognize Early Signs: Pay attention to physical and emotional cues, such as a racing heart or rising tension, that signal anger is building.
Pause Before Reacting: Take a moment to breathe deeply or count to ten. This helps you regain control before responding impulsively.
3. Practice Empathy
Put Yourself in Their Shoes: Consider the other person’s perspective. What might they be going through?
Respond with Compassion: Shift your focus from anger to understanding. A kind response can defuse tension and prevent escalation.
4. Strengthen Your Boundaries
Set Limits: If someone consistently provokes you, establish clear boundaries. Politely but firmly let them know what behavior is unacceptable.
Walk Away: If a situation becomes overwhelming, it’s okay to leave. Prioritize your peace over engaging in conflict.
5. Shift Your Perspective
Don’t Take It Personally: Understand that others’ actions often reflect their own issues, not your worth.
Focus on the Big Picture: Ask yourself, "Will this matter tomorrow, next week, or next year?" Often, the answer is no.
6. Use Humor and Positivity
Laugh It Off: Humor can be a powerful tool to lighten tense situations. Find something funny about the moment to break the tension.
Choose Gratitude: Shift your focus to things you’re thankful for. Gratitude can help you stay positive even in challenging interactions.
7. Build Resilience
Practice Mindfulness: Techniques like meditation, deep breathing, or journaling can help you remain calm and centered.
Develop Self-Confidence: The more secure you are in yourself, the less others' words or actions will affect you.
8. Communicate Effectively
Stay Calm and Assertive: Use a steady tone and express your feelings without blaming. For example, “I feel upset when you…” rather than “You always make me angry.”
Listen Actively: Sometimes anger stems from miscommunication. Listening can help resolve misunderstandings.
9. Let Go of Control
Accept What You Can’t Change: You can’t control others’ actions, but you can control your reactions.
Forgive and Release: Holding onto anger hurts you more than the other person. Forgive for your own peace, not for their sake.
10. Seek Support When Needed
Talk to Someone You Trust: Sharing your feelings with a friend, mentor, or therapist can provide clarity and comfort.
Learn from Every Experience: Each interaction is an opportunity to grow stronger and more emotionally resilient.
By cultivating self-awareness, empathy, and mindfulness, you can protect your peace and not let others’ actions dictate your emotions.

Also you can not support porn while recognising its legality is important to the lives and safety of not only sex workers but also trafficking and revenge porn victims.
Also also if you think *all* porn is racist misogynistic and paedophillic I'm going to kindly ask you to stop browsing the frontpage of Pornhub bc wym??? Did you forget there are thousands of amateur porn artists who are trans, female, PoC, etc and work completely off their own back? Porn made by queer people for queer people? Porn made by women for women? Porn made by gay men for gay men? It exists in abundance and will continue to do so whether it's legal or not.
Not to mention that things like sending erotic imagery of yourself to your consenting life partner who you are married to also comes under the definition of porn. And where does it stop? Written, drawn or animated media can be porn. Someone taking a lewd or suggestive selfie could be considered porn. We've already seen in the UK that they didn't stop at just banning the production of porn, they then banned specific kinks from even being consumed on the basis of it being "grossly offensive, disgusting, or otherwise of an obscene character". As in, anything the government decided was gross. So that means not just BDSM, but also shit like piss play.
When you allow the illegality of things based on it being "obscene" or "disgusting", that gives the government power to ban literally anything they want as long as they have a good enough argument that it's gross. Like I dunno, homosexuality?
Oh, look at that. Element 3b in the list of "obscene" porn categories:
"An act which results in or is likely to result in serious injury to a person’s anus, breast or genitals"
That means under this particular law (Section 63 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008 for those interested) anyone who engages in anal sex could reasonably be prosecuted for it. Which would disproportionately affect gay men and other queer people.
Now fortunately those laws were relaxed in 2019 and as it's down to individual judges what counts, these persecutions largely didn't happen (that we know of). But if porn were outright illegal the public sense of what is and isn't "acceptable" would change. Obviously it would, you want that right?
Except once the patriarchal systems can't blame porn for the high number of rape cases and sexual hate crimes, but the number of cases doesn't reduce or even increases (given that now even consenting women would be persecuted under anti-pornography laws), what would they then turn to?
In the UK we have a habit of banning things outright rather than addressing the root cause of the issues stemming from those things. We see it with, for example, modes of transport we decide are "a nuisance". A new mode of personal transport gets invented (electric bicycles, hoverboards, etc) and incidents happen because of people using them in the street. Instead of realising the infrastructure is lacking and forcing people using these modes of transport to use them on the sidewalk, we banned the use of them on the sidewalk. Since using them on the roads isn't safe, most people stop using them. Then another invention comes around, rinse, repeat.
This is relevant because if porn is illegal it's not going to be tackling the root of issues in the porn industry -- that is: sexism, transphobia, racism and paedophilia. Those are societal issues which, as @absolxguardian aptly pointed out, are present in all media. So naturally as rape and sexual hate crimes doesn't decrease, the UK's previous actions show that they would most likely then turn to the aforementioned "obscene" sexual acts. Which has actually happened to a point -- our assault and sexual violence laws do not recognise consent as a defense. It specifically states that "a person cannot consent to actual bodily harm". Actual Bodily Harm as a legal term in the UK is literally anything that causes pain or discomfort, which has driven most BDSM clubs and practitioners underground.
This was done to protect women against the defense of consent in rape and assault cases, which sounds reasonable until you realise a) adults consent to pain/discomfort literally all the time, it's called tattoos and piercings and fucking gyno. b) literally anyone could mark another person during sex by accident. If someone were assaulting you, might you not claw, bite and punch your way out of it? What happens to you then, if the person who did it claims consent and didn't leave a mark on you? What if you were in an abusive relationship and your partner consented to or even coerced you into marking them during sex? That person then has grounds to press legal charges against you if you try to leave them or otherwise piss them off.
Not to mention that again, this assumes it's "rough sex" that's enabling this kind of defense, and not the judge and jury who decides these people are innocent and the rape culture that emboldens them.
And who is disproportionately affected by this kind of law? I'll give you three guesses.
Anti Sadomasochism and "obscene" sex laws have been tied to homophobia for about as long as they've existed. In the 80s there was a nationwide investigation that led to many gay men being interrogated and persecuted for sadomasochism. Coincidentally (/sarcasm) Section 28 was passed in 1988, and although homosexuality itself was partially "decriminalised", in 1989 consensual gay sex made up a huge percentage of the persecutions under "gross indecency".
All of that to say that finding something gross, or shocking is never grounds to legally censor it.
But maybe you don't care about gay men. Maybe you don't care about BDSM practitioners or other kinksters. You still want to see it all banned.
Imagine, then, a scenario where all of this happens but it's not gay people or BDSM they turn their sights to. Imagine they ban porn for all the "right" reasons. Let's say they, just as you do @progressofthepilgrim, cite misogyny as the main problem with porn and ban it for that reason.
Porn goes away. Misogyny does not. They then turn to the statistics to figure out what else is perpetuating sexual violence because again, they are misogynists pretending to be protecting women, so they will never look at themselves or the society they perpetuate first. They will look for some other perpetrator.
What's to stop them turning to a racial or religious minority? There are already stereotypes that black people are disproportionately violent, what's to stop the government going and raiding their houses and interrogating them about their sex lives the way they did with the gays?
Or, to put this specifically in the lense of your personal interests: what if they turned to the Church? You're pentecostal, I see by your bio, and I know this is a Protestant denomination, so perhaps you believe the Catholic Church should also be banned for its large number of sexual assault and paedophilia cases that never seem to end? For its misogynist and sexist denominations that demand women be subservient?
What, then, if I told you that sexual assault is also prevelant in the Protestant churches? As Protestant churches outnumber Catholic ones, it would be easy for them to cover it up for longer. Do we then ban Protestants too despite y'all being outwardly more progressive? Where does it end? Do you really trust your government or mine to uphold these laws fairly? After everything they've already done to women and minorities?
I'm not telling you to like porn. Or even to support sex workers ideologically. Fuck, I hate most mainstream porn, I agree the mass-produced frontpage stuff is fucking disgusting in any category.
But you have to understand that the outright legal ban of sexual expression cannot ever be a good thing in the society we live in. You can believe porn is inherently evil, whatever, that's your right as a person with opinions. But at some point you have to stop patching up cracks and notice the huge, gaping hole at the top of them. Problematic porn is a small symptom of an enourmous problem and banning it will only give that problem more room to grow. The patriarchal and colonial powers that be want people like us to be focused so much on the easy to hate so they can keep getting away with it themselves. They want you to focus on the fruitflies so that you never have time to throw out the rotten fruit.
Puritanism is getting worse around the globe and conservatives and fascists will absolutely be first going harder against porn, then use that against queer people. You HAVE to realise this and oppose anti porn measures and laws, be in solidarity with sex workers, and listen to them when they call this shit out. It's going to be vitally important.

Pick A Card Reading
Before that here's a channeled song for collective.
What change is radically transforming your life?
Welcome to today's tarot reading! I always find tarot readings enjoyable, like reading chapters from a fascinating book. Before we dive in, let's set the scene and align with today's reading. Remember, this is a timeless read, so the messages can apply whenever you come across this post.
To start, take a moment to meditate on the question, and then choose the picture that draws you in. It could be a random object in the image or just an inner nudge guiding you to a particular pile. Feel free to choose more than one pile.
This is a general reading, so take only the messages that resonate with you and leave the rest. A tarot reading offers insight or answers to your subconscious questions. It's important not to force yourself into any interpretation that doesn't feel right; readings are meant to be more about entertainment and reflection than precision.
Be mindful of not taking things personally. This is a collective reading, and while some aspects might resonate with you, others may resonate with someone else. Please take your time with this reading. These messages are intended to awaken and provide insights, so I hope you find value in them. Enjoy the journey through these reads.
With Love

Pile 1
Conformations: Stork and fox and the soup bowl story, the forked road, straight bangs, messy hair, song named Hum pagal nhi hai bhaiyaa hamara dimag kharab hai, family and parents could be significant, dead fish, being eccentric, not fit in, standing out too much in the crowd
Something in your life could be changing to move you toward a specific goal. You might be shaping into the person who attracts that long-desired opportunity or gaining access to something you've always wanted. Pile 1, there’s something you've been dreaming of for a long time—possibly a long-awaited family dream you've been on a mission to fulfill.
I'm sensing Magha nakshatra themes: maybe someone being granted access to a family business or finally receiving their share of an inheritance. You might be leading a new line or school of thought with your family members. It was your dream to see this idea come to fruition, perhaps through market success, new investors, or business registration. It feels like one family approving another.
You've likely struggled with this issue for a long time, but now you see the success of your efforts. This achievement could be very emotional for you, bringing laurels and affection from loved ones. You may have felt stuck, unable to find love or support from your loved ones. Now, I see you taking swift action toward this long-term dream. Pile 1, good luck!

Pile 2
Confirmation: tongue twister she sells seashells on the seashore, Karla, Sarah, Coraline the horror movie, love and hate relationship, someone could refer someone as bitch and may get called back as a scum, take them with you (you could be asked to not hold grudges and take people with you, but at the same time don’t dull your own shine)
You might consider watching Pile 3 as well only if you feel called to it. There's something you've been delaying for a long time, Pile 2. Did you miss an opportunity or freedom to do something? You might be very goal-oriented, but there's some pessimism or fear of failure causing you to deviate from your goals. This could be a past pattern or bad habit repeating itself due to your current state of mind. There might be lingering anxiety about starting a new endeavor, leading to procrastination and worry about committing to new habits.
Celebrate your small achievements and start thinking positively by targeting negative thoughts and changing your thinking pattern. This cycle of self-sabotage is harmful. Avoid dwelling on those negative thoughts. Do well in life, Pile 2. You might be moving away from new friendships and people, disliking mingling with them. You could be trying to go solo to achieve your goals, leaving everything behind for yourself.
You might feel misunderstood, underappreciated, and isolated, perhaps feeling someone stole your credit. This could lead to a sense of worthlessness due to your own selflessness. I'm sorry for what you went through. Know that you deserve better friends and people around you. This might be why you want to distance yourself from new people. I'm seeing a strong feeling of self-preservation, Pile 2. Don't worry, work hard, and people will appreciate your efforts. Focus less on fair-weather friends and more on yourself. Take care, Pile 2. I feel for you and am sorry if that happened.

Pile 3
Confirmation: Paon ki jutti (song), Sydney Sweeney, number 333, 33, foundations, Anuradha nakshatra, someone from your past,1212, Australia
"Disrespect"—some female figure feels disrespected. This is anger channeled into radicalization, literally. The Hawaiian goddess of sacred rage, Pele, is coming through. There’s a mother figure in this pile who feels hugely disrespected, abused, and is doubting her faith and duty towards the collective. This is a very radical energy. " They are becoming more agnostic after whatever has transpired". They are hating and thinking how you have lost your faith in yourself after failing so many times.
Pile 3, you are someone agnostic, and you could be in danger of crossing this empress-like figure in the wake of her rage. This person could get furious at your heartache, the pressure you're feeling, and the fear of moving forward. You can trigger them, so be careful. This empress could be getting over a huge loss in life, an investment, a semester that went down the drain, or some trigger due to "Sweet Home Sydney" (a restaurant). Be careful dealing with this mother figure they might not be in the mood to be teased, she must have lost her assets because of your failures.
You could be moving on from a heartbreaking and stressful situation and trying to get your life together. You think that you are bringing your life to balance using sharp tools(im getting someone cutting their nerves) (even a sharp tongue if necessary). You could be determined to restore balance of mind through chaos. Pile3 they are coming to pull you out of this rut and you are trying to get rid of them. This awakening and rebirth could be due to their investment drowning because of you. This is an unforgiving energy. They might feel very cold to you at start but this all for your good
This grounded person may not be in
the mood for fantasy.. Pile 3, your awakening moment is this woman who doesn't want to see you slacking off. She has been carrying many burdens, and this could be someone you collaborate with at work. She could get very angry with you, Pile 3. You need to stop staying stuck in your head. You might have taken a new start without preparing for the consequences and are still moving on, carrying emotional burdens. This will get you back on track. Whoever this female is, she might be a strict mother figure, but she will get you back on track. She will dish it out very straightforwardly. There's no going back; you better start working hard.

Confirmations: 99, September, number 5 could be significant, 1313, Yee haa, cowboy, the west, Madison beer- make you mine, Flo Rida – Right Round,1616
"There's no power left in thy hand." Let me tell you something: if you take anything from someone, make sure to give them something in return or return what you took in due time. This is called borrowing. In life, nothing is taken without giving something back. This is the main motto of your reading. You may have borrowed or taken money or assets, become stingy with that money, and are not ready to give back. You could be basking in others' achievements and material gains to fund your own independence and freedom. But none of this was guaranteed for free. Be grateful for what you got for the limited time and give back.
Your mind is stuck in the thoughts of comfort without pain. Get out of this mindset. You might lose a lot in life due to fights and competitions, developing a loser’s mindset, thinking nothing is meant for you. This could lead you to take a wrong path you will regret in the long run. It's a survivor mindset, trying to run away when things get rough. Maybe there was a time you couldn’t run to safety, and now you have a survival instinct to run irrationally without seeing things clearly because you feel you cannot face the challenge. Remove that guilt. What has happened has happened. Accept your regrets for what you could not do to save yourself.
Don’t miss opportunities because of being stuck in your feelings. Use your rationality to get ahead in life. Stop wallowing in emotions. Get out of this emotional cycle and traumatic pattern. Your payback time is coming. The phrase "every dog has its day" comes to mind. You might have received an opportunity given with trust that you would return it tenfold, but you felt you didn’t deserve it. Anxiety hit when you first took it. You weren’t capable of receiving it because of a lack mindset. Then you were attacked by fake friends and your own self-hatred. You fumbled opportunities meant to move you forward.
The change that will transform your life is moving away from this toxic community. Let go of reasons to stay in a place you thought was good for you. Let go of what is not serving you. Look forward to results from your efforts and hard work. Move toward self-love and self-care, letting go of thoughts, ideas, and emotional pain from others. Proceed in life learning new skills, unafraid to express yourself and your beliefs. You are coming to balance, losing the lack and hoarding mindset, becoming more authentic. Heal yourself, learn to care for yourself, and turn controlling tendencies into self-discipline. Become a more balanced individual

Just started watching ep. 118 (yes I know I'm behind, I've been busy playing Prey and writing essays on Octavia Butler with life) and in listening to Ludinus' monologue I had a thought about a specific disconnect that cause many, in universe as well of out of it, to view the gods as tyrants. Imogen points it out when Ludinus laments about his family being collateral damage in the battle between the Lawbearer and the Crawling King: would he rather the Crawling King have been unleashed on the world to wreak havoc uncontested? (to which his response was a long silence and glaring at her)
It’s an inability to understand and accept the true scale and nuance the gods operate on, and in doing so choosing to place individual suffering and slights over ultimate consequences that may, and often do, affect the entire world. Yes it’s horrible that the gods struck down Aeor - but they were defending themselves against a weapon of mass destruction, and any other action would have been akin to lining themselves up to be shot. Yes it sucks that the Titans, who were there first, were killed - but they were trying to exterminate all mortals. Yes the deaths during the Calamity were unforgivable - but the alternative would've been to let the Betrayers kill everyone. Yes it’s horrible that the primes wouldn’t let their champions oppose Lolth in taking Opal - but they are in the middle of a battle for the world in which all hands are needed, and losing champions to a minor skirmish when they want the same thing would be pointless. Yes it’s unfair that the gods won’t personally step in and help every little person suffering, such as Ashton and Laudna - but they're literally gods responsible for the lives and afterlives of millions, and also separated by the Divine Gate, which was literally erected to protect mortals from the fallout of too much divine meddling.
When pressed, Ludinus switches to saying that it isn't the collateral itself that is the problem, but that the gods won’t personally remember and beg forgiveness for every single life lost. In saying this, he also claims that he is different - but is he? Does he honor the lives of Orym's family? The children tortured under Trent and other suffering caused by the Cerberus Assembly? The thousands lost in the war between the Empire and the Dynasty because he wanted his own beacon? The entire city of Molaesmyr? Does he even remember the many individuals indoctrinated into his cult and lost in the ensuing battle?
In the end, it isn't about collateral, or honoring those sacrificed. It's that he finds his suffering uniquely bad, and his goals uniquely warranted. Only HE (and people who want the same exact thing as him) has the right to make desicions that affect all of Exandria.
#critical role#cr3 spoilers#cr3#nella talks cr#i mention butler early on mostly as a goof but also I've been reading bloodchild and amnesty and xenogenesis#and their themes of how it's impossible to return to an Unsullied Beforetime feel relevant#sure you might think it would be best if the gods Just Were Not Here#but that isn't an option#if the primes leave the betrayers won't happily follow they will kill everyone#if predathos is unleashed the gods Will Defend Themselves and there will be another calamity#if you actually succeed in killing them all with or without massive collateral destruction you'll have a power vacuum on your hands#and figures like vecna and ukotoa will be muscling in#you have to work with the situation at hand and the situation is that the gods are here#anyway i don't have anything to say regarding the choice to let predathos in yet#gott finish the episode first#and possibly also wait for 119 to see where it leads before i settle on any opinions

I think one of the big splits in the fandom ie curly is how they choose to interpret Anya’s “I told you.” line. On how long ago she told him, if she told him explicitly or through implication, etc. All factors that would lead you to different opinions about the guy.
Me personally, I think Anya explicitly told him about her assault either soon before the events of the game or the night of the dead pixel conversation, after we’ve cut away. My interpretation is that Curly, explicitly sleep-deprived, fired, and possibly hallucinating, (wrongly) did not prioritize this knowledge and was genuinely taken off guard by the pregnancy thing until Anya reminded him.
Especially given that Curly is privileged and is explicitly shown to have blind spots regarding this fact, I think it’s not something he forgets maliciously. Rather, through systemic and subconscious personal misogyny, he slots it lower down on the list of priorities than it should’ve been. I can see him thinking of it as a problem that “only” effects one member of the crew, not seeing that not only is this line of thinking bad for its own sake, but also that it is a wider spanning issue that affects the whole crew. Someone who can rationalize violating someone’s autonomy so completely in one scenario can and will do it in others, something we tragically see as the events of the game play out.
I also don’t think Curly simply didn’t believe her when she told him, both the first time and the reminder. I think he DOES believe her. But after her reminder, I could see him being afraid of “ruining Jimmy’s life.” Not only is this a classic line of thinking with systemic misogyny, but Jimmy absolutely would blame Curly. We see him guilt trip Curly over less multiple times.
Speaking of, I think he’s also afraid of Jimmy’s reaction in general. When he does take action, it’s to placate Jimmy. And I don’t think it’s this moment of “curly 100 percent agrees with what he’s saying”, you’d have to be ignoring literally all the surrounding context to miss how much he’s panicking. He’s trying to calm Jimmy down. He thinks that his complacency will stop Jimmy from taking drastic action. He is, tragically, wrong. Something Anya might’ve been able to tell him, but I think people forget that she takes the same strategy, especially post-crash.* It works until it doesn’t.
*(There ARE differences between the two of them is circumstance. Curly is in a role of power, and they’re in a situation pre-crash that hasn’t devolved so entirely as the one the crew is in post crash. Not to mention, while both of them hope Jimmy will suddenly realize he’s a jerk and work on himself, Anya explicitly knows this. She explicitly both knows that Jimmy’s a jerk and that she is afraid of him (for valid reasons.) She’s also aware of her strategy’s limited life span due to the whole gun self-defense conversation. Her complacency is kind of a second-to-last resort for her, and she’s driven to it by the extenuatingly awful circumstances of the situation. She is achingly aware of her own situation at all times.)
While it seems that curly hasn’t really come to terms with any of those ideas. It seems more subconscious for him. I think he isn’t even aware consciously that he IS afraid of Jimmy. It might even be something he’s willingly ignoring, considering just how quick he does believe Anya once he’s reminded.
I don’t think Curly’s inaction is due to malicious intent. Nor do I think he doesn’t believe Anya. The points the game is making about systemic misogyny don’t need either of these things to be true for them to land. Especially in how capitalism and the system itself enables it. The reality is, coming forward professionally with assault allegations is usually unrewarded within the system, sometimes actively punishined. But it’s still worth it. It’s still the correct thing to do, even if it isn’t easy. Having Curly’s situation be complicated, having him be sympathetic, and still having him be wrong only strengthens the games themes. I prefer it over interpretations that make him and active helper to Jimmy AND interpretations that seek to absolve him entirely.
#mouthwashing#curly mouthwashing#anya mouthwashing#mouthwashing analysis#sa mention#tbc I think there’s a lot of interpretations that COULD work in the game. not just mine.#in fact one of my favorite parts of the game is how the ambiguity in some parts lead people to use their own life experiences in analysis#I’ve made a whole post abt it in fact#anyways. this is SO long I’m sorry#I’ve written so many words abt curly and he isn’t even my fav. smh

Thank you for your reply!
By your answer, I guess you aren't Jewish.
Oh, it's gonna be long.
Short:
This is very much NOT the definition of Zionism.
Herzel was very secular.
"God's redemption plan" - you're Christian, aren't you. Please stop projecting your cultural obsession.
Judaism, Palestine, Yisrael (word origins)
Longer:
Defining
See, the problem is "I define X as..." Without being part of X. This is problematic.
Can you imagine?
"I define feminism as the belief that women should have rights, and only women."
"I define the gay movement as the belief that people should be able to fuck in public and molest children"
Can you see how problematic it is to define something by what haters say about it?
Zionism
Theodore Herzel was highly affected by the Dreyfus trial, which he witnessed as a journalist. That made him realise that both the idea of emancipation (autonomous government under a larger Goy government) is not the solution. That the only way Jews would actually be save would be to be to have a Jewish self-govern state.
This come along with the Hibat Zion movement, that was mostly eastern Europe (Russia kingdom) and started 1881-82, as a result of the mass Pogroms (Sufot Banegev) and the May Laws.
"Zion" is one of the ancient names of Eretz Yisrael (and partly for Jerusalem).
Jews and Eretz Yisrael
The longing for Eretz Yisrael (the land of Yisrael, as in our ancestor) is as old as the exiles - you can see the Sigd, a holly day still held by the Beta Yisrael community (from Ethiopia) and had been for the last 2,500 years, as they didn't return after the 70-year/first exile.
Or 2,000 years for the rest, if you count from the second (Roman) exile. And Eretz Yisrael has always been part of our culture and hopes and prayers. We pray 3 times a day (each contains a spesific part about going back to Jerusalem). We say Bracha, a blessing, before and after every time we eat.
Our 3 main holidays, were used to be celebrated in Beyt Hamikdash. We still remember how it was. We still pray to do it again.
We mourn every year about what happened. We have a day in which we fast for 25 hours and cry and mourn. Which is at the end of 3 weeks of grief.
Erezt Yisrael, by any other name, has been in the Jewish DNA.
And there have always been Jews in Israel. 4 communities are famous for having over 2,000 years of unstopped Jewish community: Zfad, Tiberias, Jerusalem, and Hebron (the latter's Jewish community had been murdered in the pogrom of 1929. And since then, no Jews lived there - until the new Jewish community, 1979s, which people now call "colonizers". Bc they... uh... Are Jews who bought back houses originally owned by jews. No I'm not bitter at all.
"But there weren't jews in Israel -"
I mean there were??
But also.
The low number was highly affected by things like pogroms (Zfad, for example, had 4 massive ones during 1538-1929. And that's only what I have memorized). The Jewish community of Gaza City has been exiled 3 times 1830s-1929 (when they didn't return). Restrictions on immigration were put in place - ONLY for jews btw, in 1882.
(Also restrictions on Jewish immigration in the USA. I wonder why. Surely had nothing to do with other things that happened in 1881-2 that may cause many jews to consider immigration. )
Oh, we were murdered and exiled so so many times.
~
Kahanizm (isn't Zionism)
Any "only jews should live in Israel" opinion is a minority so small that. Like.
It's part of Kahanizm. Just to explain, the political party mostly failed to reach minimal votes in the elections (in Israel, the coalition is combined of multiple parties) and was at some point forbidden for running by the high court. Kahana has been imprisoned in both Israel and USA for his actions. This is so un-spread, that even most of far-right in Israel would disagree with him. Do you understand now?
Judaism:
Jews are called Jews in english (and some other languages) bc it comes from "Judaism" which come from "Judea" aka Mamlechet Yehudah (Kingdom of Judea), the southern kingdom during the 2 kingdoms era, and the last Hebrew kingdom to fall. That what we were named by the Romans -
But not only. You can see it since the first exile.
In the Book of Esther, with Mordechai ("Mordechai ben Shim'i ben Kish... Ish Yemini" (from the tribe of Binyamin). But also "Mordechai Ha'Yehudi" - which implies it refers to the place he was exiled from (Yehuda).
Palestine:
While we're at it, do you know what's the origin of the name?
The Romans (AKA colonists) has re-named the area after the great Jewish rebellion in the 1st century CE.
They named it after the Plishtim, that were big enemies of the jews, as a tactic of humiliation. Also known as "goyey hayam" (the sea people/invaders) who came from Greece.
(They also renamed our holly city as "Ilya Kapitolina", and salted the land. They also killed almost everyone in it, and enslaved most of the others. They also destroyed our Temple, Beyt Hamikdash.)
Also, "Palestine" has never been a sovereign country? I'm sort of confused why ppl keep it on.
Modern-day Israel is almost exactly in the borders of ancient kingdom of Israel.

whitney and affection
so. not a whitney fucker. a semi whitney enjoyer. yet there's something so...fascinating about whitney, so demented and truly strange about their behaviors, that makes me want to psychoanalyze them.
dolville, as we all know, is Rape Capital. Rape-Opolis. The super capital of getting abducted and violated. violation is the name of the game in dolville, whether it's mental physical or emotional. even characters who are considered fairly 'tame' or vanilla, also have their moments of violation- whether it be sydney during the rite of defilement (though it's arguable as to what extent sydney was fully lucid during it) to losing affection with robin if you refuse to sleep w them.
affection is tainted in dolville. it is a display of control, given by force. whitney is perhaps our most egregious example besides well. eden.(and i can do a lot on eden). whitney, from the onset, is violent. our first interaction w them is getting their knee shoved into our crotch. that is how we are introduced to them- as a menace, a violator. they're the most 'antagonistic' out of all the main li's right off the bat. i remember reading somewhere that vrel views whitney as a 'main antagonist' in dol, along with kylar and eden, though i could be off base with this.
anyways, even as we continue throughout the game, whitney is still the same level of cruel to us as in early game, except with more tender moments to balance it out. still, these methods of expressing affection remain a constant throughhout the game, even with high love. (granted, the dom and lust level also affects how whitney treats us but we'll get to that) whitney oftentimes takes on the role of a pimp for the player. there are many, many instances of whitney randomly grabbing the player up, as though in a scene of goodwill, and then marching them over to some rando in the park to pimp. and rest assured, you still won't be making any money, even at high love.
regardless of any amount of affection, really, whitney's behaviour continues to be cruel and violating, with no regards for pc's comfort. yet, there are tender, almost kind moments interspersed throughout our interactions with whitney. whether it's borne out of actual love for the pc or a need to display 'dominance' over them is well, debatable.
this does not negate, however, whitney's deep affection over the pc. whitney treats us how they were taught to treat others, not with respect but through a display of dominance, a need to prove how 'tough' and in control they are. whitney does not truly see pc as a person, but a toy-one they like, of course, but still a toy. pc's autonomy is nothing in their eyes, but a pesky thing to constantly contest with.
some people may say this is because whitney is just attempting to gain status, and inclusion, into their group of friends. however, while that may partly factor into why whitney treats pc as a prop, i'd argue that this isn't entirely the reasoning. i'd say whitney, at the end of the day, views pc more as a thing- a fun little thing, desperate and barking to play with-instead of a person.
this is magnified by pc's every move-if pc gives into them, this image is further solidified. if pc fights back, it beguiles them, entrances them to know more. we are treated very differently than whitney's other victims, entirely there's to torment. circling back to my earlier point of affection, whitney's treatment of the pc, their way of showing affection, is dependent on pc being a site of stress relief, a toy to play with, one without any capability of feeling any real animosity towards whitneys actions.
tl;dr: affection is violence, a display of strength, and cruelty to whtney. to get someone to love you, as the town has shown, you cannot respect them as a person. you must display your strength, and your great ability for violence and control. affection without violence and cruelty is not affection at all, now is it? (i wrote this pseudo-analysis on a whim very tired and without cross referencing the game so if there's something i'm missing or misinterpreted please let me know. also i probably just rehashed a bunch of Very Obvious Things so uh. twirls my hair.)

Hi guys so if u live in CT and want to go to an art highschool
don't go to Arts of The Capitol Theater.
Trigger warning for ableism.
There at that school, the principal is a fucking bitch. Now I don't use that term too lightly, but it definitely fits her.
At that school currently, there is a problem involving sexual harassment. This has been brought up to her on multiple occasions, as well as multiple reports have been filed against the harasser by multiple victims.
Sarah, the principal, has done absolutely nothing. She has said that she's talked with the student and his parents as well as other students' parents about the situation, but she NEVER emailed my mother or my boyfriend's mother about anything involving the situation.
So we had to take this small, itty bitty information she gave us at face value and just believe her.
Obviously, I didn't, and MANY students involved with this didn't believe her either. In fact, they were repulsed by this small information.
Me and multiple students took part and organized a sit-in, which is a form of peaceful protest where the protesters sit in a designated place until their needs are met or they were forced to move by authority. Unfortunately, we were suspended for the rest of the day for this protest movement.
This created a large change in students' views of the principal and the academics, so we gained more traction. More people reported their experiences and the reports piled up.
It was on December 19th that I was suspended until further notice alongside my boyfriend and a now ex-friend for creating a disturbance in the academic environment and for bullying.
Originally I wasn't meant to be suspended, however my boyfriend texted me to come to the office because he and the ex-friend were being expelled and/or suspended.
Now I do not run unless I absolutely need to. For context, I was on the basement floor. The office is on the second floor. I am not allowed to use elevators. So when I say I sprinted as fast as I could up 3 flights of stairs into that office to fight tooth and nail for my friends, I mean it. I was up those stairs in 5 seconds and in the office in 8.
I screamed my lungs out at the principal and guidance counselor for not doing their jobs and for condemning the wrong people in this situation so loudly that an alumni walking by heard me and stopped by the door to watch me. I saw admiration in her eyes.
My boyfriend was sobbing hysterically and pounding his head on the table because he was so horrifically deregulated and the guidance counselor didn't do a single thing as a support staff. If anything, she sat there and watched. Her face didn't change a bit from a cold stare.
I was told to leave. I didn't. I would not leave because if they went down fighting for their fucking rights, so would I. I organized the protests and posters and reports. I convinced girls and boys alike who were affected to report the boy who harassed them. I made people feel like there were options.
And so, I was suspended until further notice alongside my boyfriend and ex-friend.
I do not regret it.
Now today my mother had an online meeting with Sarah and the school's board to determine what would happen next involving me and school.
They wanted me to come back tomorrow, and had said that I should have been doing the work from home because I was only suspended for 5 days. That was a lie. Sarah told me I was suspended until further notice and there would have to be a re-entry meeting if I were to come back.
My mother fought for me when I wasn't awake yet for the meeting, which I wasn't even supposed to be there for but my mother let me sit in silence on the floor to listen, and the amount of lies coming from the board was absolutely astounding.
Sarah, Jane, and Nina spouted lies upon lies and blamed my defiance and such on my disabilities.
For reference, I have ODD, otherwise known as oppositional defiant disorder, ADHD, ADD, and others I won't list.
They never took accountability for their actions once during that meeting.
So when I say do NOT go to that school if you can help it, I fucking mean it.
That school is ableist and everything under the sun that a youth would never want to experience in what is supposed to be an educational environment.
Fuck that school.
#maintaining mutts#ricochetfuel#psa#connecticut#arts of the Capitol Theater#fuck that school#announcement#tw ableism#cw ableism#ableism#tagging that just in case

Suga version !
series masterlist
This is my personal opinion and perspective. It may not accurately reflect their real-life personalities or behaviors.
Suga has always had a soft spot for you, even if he hides it well. He’ll listen intently when you talk, offering quiet advice or sarcastic quips, but he’s much softer with you than he is with most people.
He notices everything about you: the way you furrow your brows when concentrating, the lilt in your laugh, or the way your eyes light up when talking about something you love.
While he seems indifferent to most people, he gets uncharacteristically protective of you. If anyone bothers you at work or on the street, he steps in with a calm but menacing aura.
He shows his affection through actions: fixing your broken headphones, bringing you coffee when you’re stressed, or leaving little notes reminding you to take care of yourself.
Suga doesn’t outwardly react when he notices you spending more time with your guy best friend, but he observes everything. His sharp eyes catch the way you smile at your friend, and it stings more than he’d like to admit.
He starts making sarcastic comments like, “Wow, you’re spending a lot of time with him lately. Does he have a punch card for your attention or something?”
Normally calm and collected, he becomes more irritable and distant when jealousy consumes him. If you ask him what’s wrong, he just mutters, “Nothing,” and brushes it off.
When he sees you laughing with your guy best friend, something snaps. He walks over, mumbles a curt excuse like, “We need to go,” and practically drags you away, ignoring your protests.
Once you’re alone, he doesn’t explain himself. He’s annoyed—both at you and himself for caring so much. He eventually mutters, “It’s nothing. Just forget it,” leaving you confused but worried about him.
Suga debates whether he should confess or stay quiet. He knows you like someone else, and the fear of ruining your friendship holds him back.
When you ask him why he’s acting strange, he stares at you for a long moment, his lips parting as if to say something—but he just shakes his head and changes the subject.
He starts pulling back, thinking it’s better for his sanity. He avoids your calls and texts, hoping to smother his feelings, but it only makes him miss you more.
One evening, after you confront him about his behavior, he finally snaps. “You really don’t get it, do you?” he says, frustration spilling over. “Do you know how hard it is to watch you chase after someone else when I—” He stops himself, looking away.
His words linger in your mind, and you start piecing things together: the way he’s always been there for you, the small gestures. You realize his feelings and begin to question your own.
Days later, you approach him, hesitant but determined. “Why didn’t you tell me?” you ask. He sighs, running a hand through his hair. “Because I didn’t think you’d feel the same,” he admits softly.
You surprise him by saying, “Maybe I didn’t see it before, maybe I didn't believe it before but I’m starting to.” His eyes widen, disbelief flickering across his face before softening into a hopeful smile.
True to Suga’s style, your relationship develops slowly and naturally. He’s still reserved, but his actions speak louder than words—like holding your hand when you’re nervous or pressing a lingering kiss to your forehead before saying goodnight.
Closure: Suga’s love is quiet but unwavering, and once you start to see it, you realize it was there all along. Though it took jealousy and frustration to bring his feelings to light, the bond between you only deepens, evolving into a love built on trust, understanding, and the quiet moments that mean everything.
After realizing your feelings for each other, things between you and Suga take a turn for the sweeter—and spicier heheheheh.
Suga loves quiet moments with you, like napping on the couch while your fingers run through his hair.
He has a way of catching you off guard with sudden affection. One minute, he’s scrolling through his phone, and the next, he’s pulling you into his lap, resting his chin on your shoulder.
Yoongi doesn’t hover, but he’s always looking out for you. If you’re cold, he’ll drape his jacket over your shoulders without a word. If you’re stressed, he’ll brew your favorite tea and quietly leave it on your desk.
He won’t say it outright, but you can tell when his lyrics are about you. The way he describes love—gentle, steady, and consuming—sounds suspiciously familiar.
Suga’s sarcasm turns into playful teasing in your relationship. He’ll smirk and say something weird like, “Who knew someone as chaotic as you would catch my attention?” but his eyes are full of fondness.
He’s always touching you in subtle but electrifying ways. His hand on the small of your back, his fingers brushing your neck as he tucks your hair behind your ear, or his thumb tracing circles on your palm while you’re holding hands.
Yoongi knows the effect his deep, raspy voice has on you (AHH). He’ll lean in close, brushing his lips against your ear as he murmurs something teasing or affectionate, leaving you flustered.
His kisses are either feather-light, teasing you just enough to leave you wanting more, or slow and lingering, like he’s savoring every second. There’s no in-between, and it always leaves your heart racing.
Yoongi has a way of looking at you that turns your knees to jelly.
While he’s reserved in public, Yoongi is surprisingly confident and assertive when you’re alone. He loves making you blush and revels in how easily he can leave you speechless.
He’s attentive and focused, always making sure you’re comfortable and happy. His approach is patient and deliberate, ensuring every moment feels special.
Post-intimate moments, he’s incredibly caring. He’ll bring you water, wrap you in his arms, and quietly hum a tune to help you relax. It’s these small gestures that show how deeply he loves you.
He won’t say it outright, but you can feel it when his arm snakes around your waist at a party or when he gives a warning glance to anyone getting too friendly with you.
He loves you a lot.
