Meet The Curator!

Here’s my take on The Curator’s human form!

The Curator was the first to befriend a ‘human’ (Stanley being some odd Demi-human) and to create a human form. Her associate with Mariella began completely on accident. Despite her wariness of interacting with people, her curiosity and thirst for information led her to creating her human form and walking amongst people. She chose to make her form taller, older, and stern looking to be less approachable to people so she could walk around in peace. She spent most of her time on earth in museums, learning about how humanity cataloged and viewed their history. Due to being around to witness some events from a distance, she could provide details around the way certain events occurred, which she would talk about with fellow museum guests. This with her appearance led to people thinking she was an actual museum employee wherever she showed up.

Mariella is a manager at one of the museums The Curator frequents, and when it became clear that she was not an employee and was somehow getting into the museum without paying or seemingly even walking into the museum, she became invested in trying to figure out who ‘The Lady in Blue’ was and how she keeps getting in. Mariella eventually encounters The Curator, and calls out to her, and The Curator panics and runs off. Mariella follows, but loses her. This happens a few more times until Mariella finally sees The Curator move through a door in a section of the museum she didn’t recognize and chases her through it. Mariella catches up and asks The Curator who she is and how she keeps getting in. Curator freezes because she’s never been fully grabbed by a person before, and Mariella tries to reassure her that she’s not in too much trouble. Curator pops out of her human form which causes Mariella to panic and try to leave, which causes Curator to panic and close off the exit between earth and the small pocket sandbox she’s made into a museum, causing Mariella to panic more. Curator pops back into her human form and helps Mariella calm down. They have a long conversation over what The Curator is and what this place was, she lets Mariella go with the promise she won’t tell anyone anything about The Curator and to leave her be. Mariella does so, but curiosity towards The Curator leads her to track her down again with the goal of befriending her. This begins a friendship where they share information about their kinds, and then about themselves.

With the information Mariella provides, The Curator makes an immersive museum experience that she offers to allow Mariella to run through. This begins their version of the parable they call ‘Mariella’s Fable’. The Curators stories are more education oriented rather than a meta comedy, and are much more relaxing, though she eventually takes a page out of her brother’s book and uses dry wit to spice things up. Mariella helped her choose the name Carol, while she would take Torrent as her last name later on. Her view of buckets as objects that deserve immense respect is sort of a joke, but her initial curiosity with humanity came with her initial observation of humans usage of tools, and specifically buckets.

Love learning new things just like the other day someone said that, apparently, in order to lean on Miles' shoulder Gwen had to use extra strength and concentration cuz it's already hard to sit upside down and she made it even more difficult by balancing her weight enough to lean her upper body towards another person and it made me think of how she didn't hold hands with him which was way easier to do in that position but she felt so bad that she rejected him that she said "fuck gravity he needs to know that I care. I already fell for him I might as well fall down too"

I’ve been in the same boat: The Ren route dlc is actually the only one I’ve seen played out in full, and honestly, I don’t even care to watch the others because I know they won’t be able to compare. I even downloaded Patreon so I could watch the explicit parts of his route, which is something I’ve never done before for any creator/game/media.

I’ve also been searching AO3 but everything that has come up is either a wip or it feels way too ooc for me to get into it. There’s not a lot to choose from because the dlc came out just a few months ago.

No other character has had this much of a chokehold on me. I’ve been tempted to go watch through Ren’s routes in BTD and BTD2 to get a better grasp on his character, as well as rewatching a playthrough of the dlc for TPOF. I’m not even on ao3 but damn, im tempted to do all my research to write Ren x GN Reader fics, some personal Ren x myself, and even a fic of the events from the TPOF dlc from Ren’s POV

thank you gatobob fr. just to let you know, ren doesn't have his own route in the first BTD, he's a side character in someone else's, and his route in BTD2 is hidden within someone else's route, so there's a little trick to getting that, but there are good guides online for that. the way you described it sounds like you'd rather watch a playthrough rather than play it yourself, but in case you did want to play it ^

i love BTD as a whole so i do recommend playing the other games and routes in their entirety as well just to get a sense for the world lore cause many characters end up knowing each other in ways that intrigued the hell out of me. like, sano... sano has bitches.

and i also recommend looking out for the new game gatobob is currently working on, You Kill Me Every Time, from what I can tell it's going to be mostly about, if not entirely about, Strade and Ren, which I'm very very excited for.

I think that the 2010's media landscape of Buzzfeed articles about plotholes in disney movies, Cinemasins critiques, and Watchmojo Top Ten scenes in movies that make no sense has truely ruined a lot of media. People are afraid that their work will be torn down if they dare leave a single thing up in the air, if they dare ask their audience to suspend their disbelief.

All too often nowadays I see stories (especially fantasy), take the time to explain how every small aspect of the world works and how it all logically makes sense. The constant time stopped to explain why an event happened, how this object works, or why this is important to the characters. It's just really not needed and it honestly makes a lot of stories worse.

I am of the opinion that the best stories truly just drop you into their world and explain nothing. They just take you through the story of this world and you just have to accept it and continue on. "When he became king, the land became barren." I don't want the story to stop and explain why this is, or how it happened, I want us to move on so we can just assume that the king has such rancid vibes that everything died.

all the while society conflates "being an adult" with "having a proper job" and "having money to make arbitrary Adult Purchases" disabled people who can't work - or can only work part time or can only do entry level baby jobs - will never be 'allowed' to be adults

you can say "being an adult is looking after yourself you don't have to have a job!!!" all you want but most people who say that will still assume anybody who doesn't either can't or won't 'look after themselves' actually. and every 'marker' of 'adulthood' that's observable and thus actually counts or whatever loops back around to... having a job and 'contributing' something
