Tristan: A curfew?

Kas: I agree it’s stupid. You don’t have to follow it if you have a key. 

Tristan: Where does one get a key then?

Kas: If you prove I can trust you, I’ll make sure you get one.

Tristan: The structure seems sturdy enough to keep out creatures. Humans could break through a window. Why lock the doors?

Kas: It’s not a matter of keeping people and creatures in or out, Tristan.

Tristan: Right.

Kas: Communal dinners on Monday and Sundays. Nadine is strict with that. Fail to attend, and you get no food.

Tristan: Any other repercussions?

Kas: Passive aggression.

Tristan: Scary.

2. Kas: If they really wanted power, I’d expect them to use violence. But I suppose they don’t want it badly enough.

Tristan: Is that how you’d run this place if you were at the head?

Kas: Not over something as meaningless as a curfew.

3. Kas: What about you, Tristan?

4. Tristan: …what about me?

5.  Kas: Do you like power?

6.  Tristan: No.

7. Kas: Most people say that. It’s what they’ve been conditioned to think. What you’re forgetting is that if you’re not the one in power, someone else is.

8. Tristan: Power and control aren’t necessarily the same thing, are they?

Kas: Hmm.

9. Tristan: You don’t have to rule by fear. You can be in power because people put their trust in you willingly.

10. Kas: Does it make a difference? Loyalty is as much a leash as being under someone’s power by force. And having someone’s chosen loyalty gives you just as much control over them—if not more.

11. Kas: So?

12/13: Kas: Do you like power?

Tristan: I guess I prefer to have it.

14. Kas: Good.

15. Tristan: ...is this some sort of test?

Kas: [Smiles]

Tristan: Did I pass?

Kas: Yes, Tristan. You did.

Reunion

"Rook, is that really you?" "It's me."

This render has been sitting basically finished, just un-rendered and un-edited in my folders for WEEKS now, which is a crime, because it's fucking adorable.

Rook finally got to see his former captain and mentor, Zara, again for the first time in 3 years, and it was a very bittersweet reunion. She ended up revealing that she was aware of every single things that Wolf was doing to him during his time on the Sea Snake, but was unable to do anything about it because if she or anyone under her employ were to attempt to rescue him, Wolf would have killed him. As it turns out, she gave up sailing in order to protect him, lest Wolf take any movement of hers as a threat.

Here's my write-up of the first part of the scene:

And of course the reunion was then interrupted by the arrival of a giant snake which proceeded to eat Jay, the former surgeon's apprentice on Zara's ship and Rook's only friend prior to meeting the party. When he showed up Zara had been about to explain something very important to Rook (why Wolf hates her so much, and why she went after Rook), and after weeks of delays and fighting the giant snake, Rook (and I) finally get to find out the truth on Saturday.

Zara's been hinting that it's something Not Good and that she's worried about his reaction, but luckily for her, Rook would forgive her literally anything. And I do mean anything. She was the first person in his life who was ever truly kind to him, and she means more to him than any other person in his life. And this is the same man who tried to tell the BBEG of the entire campaign that he "wasn't that person anymore", after only knowing him for a matter of months. (In his defense he didn't know he was the BBEG.) In comparison, he'd been sailing with Zara for 6 years before he was captured.

Oh, and she's also going to give him her old ship, the Tide Breaker, and name him captain, which is going to be a bit of a mindfuck for him, given his intense guilt over Jay and like 18 other bad things that have happened to the party recently. Augh, I can't wait.

it's been a little over a year playing in my curse of strahd campaign, so an updated character portrait was due!! a year later so i'll give a little lore: her name is jeanne du vergier, twilight cleric and little lycanthrope. never let the sane one in your group be 19 years old. barovia native and the last pack follower of the night mother. in a situationship with god and about to have a wonderful dinner party with the devil himself. here's to another year in barovia :3

Carrion Vice

him/him | beasthide shifter | path of the fractured barbarian

My character for the Dungeons of Drakkenheim campaign that Izzy is running for our Friday group!! His (current) name is Carrion Vice, and he's a barbarian using the path of the fractured subclass from the Grim Hollow sourcebook. (It's an unarmed strike-based subclass that literally on-page describes your rage as a monstrous transformation.)

If you're wondering why he's a shifter but looks like a tiefling, it's because he is physically a tiefling, but due to an unusual reaction to the corrupting power of the delirium-filled meteor that destroyed Drakkenheim, he was mutated and given the ability to undergo horrible transformations, turning into an unrecognizable monster with unusual strength and power. (Aka, out of game we're combining the shifter shift and the barbarian rage into a single bonus action that serves as his "transformation".)

He has a really really fun and interesting story behind how he got the name Carrion (his birth name was Reverence), and it might be my favorite reason any character has ever gotten an in-universe name ever.

Tyra Gale, first mate of the Tide Breaker

Rook's going to be gathering a crew for his ship, and his future first mate is going to be this lovely lady. She takes no bullshit, not even from her captain, and she's always willing to push back against him and keep him on his toes. She's a good duelist, but even better with a pistol, and will not hesitate to shoot first.

I really could have just put the entire lyrics of Ship in a Bottle on here, because every bit of them are applicable to Rook and his current place in the story. I've loved this song for years and I was dying to put it on Rook's playlist. Now that he's gone through emotional hell and is about to be named captain of the Tide Breaker, I finally can.

(I swear he is actually in a bottle. I want to do a render that shows that better, but I haven't figured out how best to do that yet.)

I’m taking the most credits I’ve ever taken during a semester in my life, including two of the hardest classes I’ll ever have to take, which both have a lab. So if I disappear of the face of the earth for a few months, that’s why.

My schedule is awful, too. On Thursdays I have class nonstop from 9am until 6pm, with the longest break between classes being 40 minutes. Idk when I’m supposed to eat… And then there’s my Fridays. Man, I am not used to actually having a full day of classes on Fridays. Like, what do you MEAN I have more than one class today???

I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, given that there is both an actual goddess and characters from multiple very popular media series who share my name. But this is actually quite a nice collection of things. I mean, I did know exactly what I was doing, naming myself after a goddess of death and war (among other things) who is symbolized by crows... As a fun bonus, that last pic is actually on Morana's board somewhere.

I was pleasantly surprised by the pirate vibes making it on here, though. Was not expecting that. And the red stained glass is a nice touch, too.

Olvar - Boatswain of the Sea Snake

While Wolf may have been the ultimate source of Rook's torment, Olvar was the one Rook was most afraid of, at least until recently. A true sadist who is both brutal and clever -- a terrifying combination -- he was responsible for physically enacting most of the torture Rook received while on board the Sea Snake the first time. But the second time Rook was captured, he was conspicuously absent. (Not that Wolf needed any help to hurt him.) Rook doesn't know why Wolf would send her most loyal officer and capable fighter away, but it can't be good... Finally had a good reason to make him, since we're going to be heading to the island he's conquered (on Wolf's behalf) soon.
