MDZS Transmigration!AU

Okay, hear me out, what if Lan Wangji was a transmigrator? Like, OG!Lan Wangji would be this cold, rude a**hole who teamed up with the rest of the clans to drive Wei Ying to suicide in the original story. All the shenanigans upto Guanyin Temple happen, and LWJ is killed by NMJ's spirit along with JGY in the end, all orchestrated by NHS.

Sweet, shy, quiet Lan Zhan stumbles upon this webnovel, and instantly hates Lan Wangji (who has a large fan base for some reason) for what he did to his favourite character, Wei Ying. He is miraculously transported into the story as Lan Wangji, and immediately takes it upon himself to fix everything. Soon enough, he falls for Wei Ying.

Xichen obviously notices that it's not his brother, so they talk about it, and Lan Zhan tells him all about what happens. So, Jin Guangshan is prevented and Xichen keeps a close eye on Meng Yao. The Jiang family survives — no one dies, including Jin Zixuan. Lan Zhan befriends Huaisang early on, to not get on his bad side, and gets him married to Jiang Cheng.

The drama with the Wens still happen, though. Jiang Cheng still loses his core, and Wei Ying gives his own core to him and takes up demonic cultivation. (The core-giving was not explicitly mentioned in the original webnovel, so there was nothing Lan Zhan could do, since he didn't know about it.) But, it was easier to get rid of them this once, and the Lan sect agreed to house the Dafan Wens after the war.

Wei Ying still becomes the Yiling Patriarch, and many people hate him, but it's better that what actually happened in the webnovel. He doesn't die, falls in love with Lan Zhan very late (cue the infinite pining) and marries him later on.

Wei Ying probably starts his own sect, and Lan Zhan leaves Gusu to live there. A happy ending, ha!

(But imagine what would happen if he was suddenly catapulted back into his real world one day? He'd be shattered and heartbroken for days until he meets Wei Ying again there. The romance part 2 probably starts there, with Wei Ying pretending to not have crossed over from that world to see him.)

PJO and Marvel/Shield mash up and honestly I'm just so down for badass Percy fics. Especially when we see him from another POV where he looks so scary but in his head he is the softest most traumatized boy. Percy is everything to me. Lol and I ship percabeth so hard so this was an outlier fic to me 😂 the blurb there is from the first story, I linked the whole series.

Uhhhh. I don't have much against the ship itself rather than how the live action portrayed Chengqing (and consequently Wen Qing) along with the fact that Wen Qing is one of the two female characters who Wei Wuxian has an actual relationship with.

What would have made you like it?

Oh good point! I do have a fondness for mad scientists who experiment with the poor guy (Jiang Cheng)'s body. Especially novel canon Wen Qing because like—girlie just got pestered enough to experiment on him and Just Did It. Sure why not. Wei Wuxian and Wen Qing's relationship is one of the most fascinating to me because it's about recognising yourself in the other in the worst of times. I do think this ship has ample potential....I would love to see the tragedy of loving two people who decided that they knew what the best for you was, one decided that Clearly She Needs To Cut The Other Up For Science And Shove It Into You and now you have to live with it. Just....Idk, CQL sure was trying to Do Something. That something wasn't for me, good for those who like it though. It sure is feeding everyone's character interaction needs from the little I did watch.

Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

Mhmm. Anything involving a character that's canonically dead dead and another that has been dead once and another that's famous for never moving on from the denial phase of grief is always a tasty one. Especially if the former two are also real famous for teaming up to consult each other to decide what's best for their younger sibling/shidi. Like....when do they fall for each other? Is it before the war? Is it Miss Grumpy, Mr. Grumpy and Mr. Haha Hehe (all three insane), somehow developing something? Like,,,I do love the horror and intimacy of Qingxian first meetcute because of the instant understanding that the other would leave no stones unturned if something happened to their precious one. But if it did happen before the war....then there's something distinctly horrifying about Wen Qing performing a surgery she had always theorized about, never got subjects for and then got them handed to her and they are the ones she loved. Fucked up. Deeply obsessed with her response when she sees a prone Jiang Cheng in the novel is to go "oh you bring a tortured man and you couldn't bother to knock him unconscious so that he doesn't make people suspicious? Shame on you Wen Ning" and then shoves needles into his head herself. It's just none happiness with left grief for Jiang Cheng because of course the man he loves decides to walk off from him along with the woman he loves as well. Do they not—and they are dead. Great. Great. Wei Wuxian? Wei Wuxian is trying so hard to convince himself that this time he will do the self sacrifice and intimidating other clans with his red eyeliner thing correct. It's not working? OTHER people can do the self sacrifice thing too? Oh no. Honestly this is just canon but sadder, I think.

.....well I have definitely seen manyAUs where Jiang Cheng is engaged to Wen Qing Yanli style and Wei Wuxian feels very normal emotions about it. Surely one also exists where random political marriage between the Yiling Patriarch, Sandu Sengshou and Wen-daifu.

Propaganda for Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian (The Untamed/Mo Dao Zu Shi)

They're badass separately and as a team! They're both excellent fighters, with Lan Wangji being the best in their world canonically and Wei Wuxian being more of a wild card and depending on circumstances bc the body he's in isn't his own and isn't ideal. He's very good at making the best of things with limited resources and adjusting to new developments though. Pretty much nothing can faze them when they're together because a) they're crushing hard/in love w each other and b) they know no one really has a chance against them as together.

wwx and lwj are THE power couple of the cultivation world. one of them a legendary visionary who made groundbreaking strides in necromancy and was widely reviled and scorned by the cultivation world despite his best intentions, and the other a powerhouse lauded for his tireless efforts in calming ghosts and saving the common people. both have titles bestowed out of honor or fear - wwx is called the yiling patriarch, and lwj is hanguang-jun (translated to light-bearing lord). by the end of the story, they're an unbeatable gay power couple made up of THE two most badass and powerful characters in the story, weaving seamlessly around each other in battle and trusting each other to have their backs. their love story is censored in the live action and donghua but its heavily implied, and they get married in the book!

I would love to see you write some kind of mdzs fate fusion! With different aspects of an mdzs character's history influencing their servant form. Maybe something where the Juniors are the mages and Mo Xuanyu tries to summon the fearsome Yiling Patriarch but summons a more cheery WWX instead, while Lan Sizhui summons the legendary Hanguang-jun. And Jin Ling summons Jiang Cheng because jiujiu transcends time and space! (and OYZZ summons NHS bc it would be funny. No one expects this team up! :D)

I feel like working out the logistics of everyone getting summoned at this time of night is...questionable, but let's say that it's a modern day setting, and someone's set it up so all the cultivators in a certain area can summon a servant in order to start a free for all, winner gets the holy grail - because if anyone's starting a bloodbath for a suspicious cup full of seemingly unlimited power, it's mdzs cultivation society!Surely this won't cause any problems!

Especially since this is a setting where reincarnation is a thing. Servants aren't heroes themselves, after all, but copies of them, the distillation of their virtues and vices into the most intense version they can be. Servants have met their original selves before - surely meeting a reincarnation isn't out of the question?

Which is how sect heir Jin Ling, in his expensive sneakers and a fancy sweater, summons a man with ancient clothing and his uncle's face.

"I ask of you, are you my master?"

"....jiujiu?"

The man blinks, and in a second, he's out of the circle and patting Jin Ling on the head, checking him - 'what are you wearing?"

"I don't know what you're talking about!" and the chef grabs his favorite knife and spins, trying to take a chunk out of his enemy.

But the man in gold is too fast, and his blade nicks the chef's arm. Blood spatters.

A pattern painted whimsically on the restarant's wall glows under the fresh coat of blood. A figure emerged and smashed down, almost crushing the slender man in a flurry of green silk - and every clumsy move after was made with the deliberation of a wrestler, making space between the man in gold and the chef.

"San ge - "

"I'm not dealing with you, Huaisang!" the man snapped. "I'll be back!"

"Um," said the chef.

"Hi!" says the man in green - who gathers himself up with the wet eyes of a dog. "Da ge, so sorry about all that - are you alright?"

Nie Mingjue has had a fucking night when all he wanted was to close his restarant. However, he thinks as the man in ancient clothing drapes himself over him and wails about how relieved he is he's ok - there's something that seems right about this weird guy saying they're bound by fate or whatever. He always did want a little brother.

Summary: Omega Meng Yao saves alpha Lan Xichen from the Qishan Wen after the burning of the Cloud Recesses. They spend their respective heat/ruts together before parting. Meng Yao joins the Hejian Front as Nie Mingjue's second in command and Lan Xichen returns to his home to fight. When they meet again, Lan Xichen is struck by surprise and questions Meng Yao's desire to work for his father. Nie Mingjue overhears them and sends Meng Yao to the Langya Front. A few months later, Nie Mingjue and Lan Xichen reunite at the Langya Front only to discover Meng Yao's death. Lan Xichen returns to battle but eventually stumbles across a letter from Meng Yao detailing the inner workings and plans of the Qishan Wen. The last letter he receives encourages his swift arrival at Qishan. He, Meng Yao and Nie Mingjue return to the Hejian Front whilst the end of the war is celebrated. Nie Mingjue confronts Meng Yao and Lan Xichen learns that he joined the Wen sect because they saved him from the alphas on the Langya Front. Wen Ruohan however discovered his spy status when the child he claimed was his rapist's was actually Lan Xichen's. Although Meng Yao was sent to the Qishan Dungeons, Wen Ruohan paraded him before a captured Nie Mingjue, unintentionally allowing Meng Yao to kill him.

The painful irony of Hollywood these days is that actors are so focused on being Individuals that their characters blend into an indistinguishable mob. This is not how you want to write your stories.

For one thing, it robs your readers of the pure delight that’s seeing competent individuals come together to pull off a mission (whether rescue, caper, heist or counter-heist) that none of them could accomplish alone.

The Lone Hero is a powerful archetype, worthy of good stories. A team of heroes, especially a Rag-Tag Bunch of Misfits, is a different archetype, and lends itself to potentially more intricate stories. Because more individuals means a broader range of skills, from the mundane to the esoteric. (See Egon Spengler reading Sumerian underwater.) And that means you can have a wider range of challenges to throw at your heroes. As long as you’re able to keep track of all the moving parts, maybe with a conspiracy board, you can build thrilling stories.

And it all starts by remembering that while individuals can choose to create a team, a team cannot exist without individuals.

Sure, you can have the idea of a team, or a team-to-be. An army platoon. A homicide investigation squad. A gang of thieves out to right wrongs. But the team itself does not exist until there are living, breathing humans stepping into place.

(Unless you’re the Yiling Patriarch and your team has a Ghost General. Still. Individuals, not minions.)

Which means Hollywood is going about it all wrong. Your character doesn’t lose their individuality by being part of a team. They showcase it, by how they contribute to beating the odds all the team is facing.

Some books that demonstrate teamwork: P.M. Griffin’s Star Commandos. The Icewind Dale Trilogy by R.A. Salvatore. The Safehold series by David Weber also has some great moments.

Some shows that demonstrate teamwork: The A-Team. The original Scooby Doo cartoons; Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island also works. Airwolf. Knight Rider; while Michael Knight is the hero, he’d get nowhere without Kitt and the gang backing him up. Leverage, oh so much. Without each of their skillsets the heists won’t work. An interesting element as seasons go on is when various team members have to fill in for each other in a pinch; sometimes it works, sometimes it really doesn’t.

A recent show is Be Reborn, a 2022 Chinese suspense I found on YouTube. I can only vouch for the first five eps, but in them we get to see two teams at work. Thieves carrying off a heist, and the cops trying to stop them. The link between them is a young college law student trying to live down a family reputation of being thieves... yet gets dragged in by the thieves’ Mastermind anyway, and is desperately trying to help the cops bring them down.

Working together in teams is one of the biggest survival advantages humans have. Write a good team, and your readers will be back for more!

Idk if I've mentioned it here or if anyone else has thought of it before but I have some Thoughts™️ on WWX's core and how it relates to his demonic cultivation.

Hear me out here.

So it's established that wwx is very talented as a cultivator, yes? To the point that he's even better than JC and on par with LWJ who is considered one of the best of their generation.

What if the reason that WWX was able to hold so much demonic energy was precisely BECAUSE he was an amazing cultivator on top of being smart? LWJ states in one of the adaptations (idk which) that demonic cultivation will corrode WWX's core.

But! Because (to my knowledge) the only people who had really TRIED demonic cultivation before were normies trying to gain power OR regular cultivators who switched methods, that leaves WWX as a bit of a wild card.

But the point I'm making here is that WWX has no core- but he used to. The great space his core used to occupy has already been carved out, he was already used to havi g large amounts of energy. So what if when he removed the core, THAT was what made the difference in how long he managed to last channeling so much negative energy in his body?

Idk. This is just one of those Things I Like to Think About.

baby fever - an mdzs modern cultivation au

The thing about being the brother to the cultivation world’s primary expert in talismans is that Jiang Cheng has seen more than enough bizarre and frankly horrifying things that can result from having the right radicals lined on paper.

Wei Ying had been a nightmare to grow up with, even more so, when he had officially gotten his own workshop. Jiang Cheng has been victim to one too many of his pranks and experiments to know to be wary about unfamiliar arrays and talismans – especially unfinished ones.

So when he’d gotten the case, he’d enlisted Wei Ying’s help. Some would argue that having the pioneer of modern talismans and arrays at his beck and call is the bigger perk to having him as a brother. Those people have never suffered from having a pig’s nose for three days due to an experimental talisman, so their arguments are invalid.

The senior disciples he’s enlisted for the case have already set up the usual safety wards around the immediate area when his brother arrives. He knows because despite the lack of fanfare, Wei Ying is loud. And despite having moved out from the main clan residences, he’s always been quite the enabler towards the younger Jiang disciples.

“If all of you are done slacking off now, we do have work to do here.” Jiang Cheng says when they’ve finally finished their usual antics. Too much, and the younger ones will think he’s gone soft, and he can’t have that as heir to the Jiang Sect and lead of this team.

“Just admit you missed me too, Jiang Cheng.” Wei Ying slings an arm around his shoulders, which Jiang Cheng is quick to shake off.

“Quit messing around. Can’t you act more like a professional?” Jiang Cheng grouses, moving past the safety wards. “Don’t tell me you act like this in front of your apprentices.”

“Aww, don’t be jealous, Chengcheng – you’ll always be my favorite.”

“Who the fuck’s jealous?” He pretends he doesn’t see the teasing grins his brother and the older disciples exchange. “And I told you to stop calling me that!”

“Fine, fine, whatever you say, didi.” Wei Ying waves a flippant hand, traipsing into the half-destroyed shack of their case with hardly any protective gear. “So, what are we dealing with this time?”

“You didn’t read the briefing pack I sent, did you.”

“Of course I did!” He definitely did not. “Just humor me, won’t you?”

Jiang Cheng rolls his eyes.

It’s a shame only Jiang Sect disciples are around to see the so-called Yiling Patriarch goofing around on a nighthunt like this. He wonders if they’d still revere him so much if they saw the way he conducts himself on nighthunts, with little regard for protocols. Really, it’s a wonder anyone takes Wei Ying seriously enough to attend his lectures enough to sign up to be his apprentice.

“It’s more the usual – a bunch of stupid teenagers keep using this place for their petty dares and gimmicks. Then someone’s kid never came home, alerted the police. The teenagers then pointed them here.”

Here, being a ramshackle storehouse on the outskirts of the city. Doesn’t help that with the area being one of the less developed ones, even the mundane police force barely patrol the area. It’s close enough for kids to frequent it, and far enough away that they could use it for trouble and get away with it.

“The building was meant to be a part of a larger complex, but when the other district flourished, they just decided to cut their losses and stop the project halfway.”

Beside it is what remains of the complex – a three-story building with half its skeleton exposed like a bizarre human anatomy model. Exposed to the elements, it has deteriorated so much that nature has begun reclaiming the space – weeds pushing through the cracks and moss covering the walls like some shoddy paint job.

“Well, all things considered, it’s not too bad, actually.” Wei Ying hums, like he’s honest to god considering a prime piece of real estate. “Any chance there might be some neighbors around we could ask?”

“There were.” He points to the corner of the building, covered with graffiti and reeking of human waste. “Probably fled when the police came looking, though.”

Wei Ying ‘tsk’s in annoyance. Jiang Cheng grimaces, knowing if even his brother thinks that’s a dead lead, then those witnesses would really be too difficult to track down.

Hopefully, they wouldn’t need to.

“Through here,” Jiang Cheng motions towards the rusted sidedoor of the storehouse.

Wei Ying scratches the bridge of his nose. “So how’d they figure calling us for help?”

Jiang Cheng sends out a few light talismans to each corner of the room. “They found this.”

This, being a wreck of a table, strings of various talisman paper written in blood hanging from the ceiling and a conspicuous amount of blood and gore in the middle of an unfamiliar array.

“Well, well; looks like someone had a bit of a workshop going on in here.” Wei Ying lets out a whistle, eyes already sparking with interest. “Can’t believe this was enough to get the police running to us, though.”

Jiang Cheng snorts. “Oh, believe me, they tried. But I’ve got one of ours keeping tabs on them.”

“Oh? Taking cues from our dear Nie-xiong, eh?”

“It’s useful advice, okay!”

Wei Ying snickers. God, he’s not gonna let this go, is he?

Jiang Cheng clears his throat. “I’d rather not have another Yi City, that’s all.”

This, at least, gets Wei Ying to grimace in shared misery. Yi City had been a nightmare and a half for everyone involved.

Jiang Cheng throws Wei Ying a spare pair of warded gloves right as he reaches out to touch the possibly still active markings on the table. Idiot.

He yelps when they smack him in the face, and Jiang Cheng fights to keep the smirk off his face.

“At least wear some gloves,” he says. “I’d rather not be hounded by your vengeful boyfriend if you turn into a toad.”

“How mean,” Wei Ying pouts even as he puts them on. “I wasn’t even going to touch them directly – and besides, this one's not active, anyway.”

“You don’t know that.” Jiang Cheng snaps.

Wei Ying raises a challenging brow, and Jiang Cheng rolls his eyes.

“Okay, fine. But at least act like you have more than an ounce of self-preservation!”

“Oh relax, Jiang Cheng. I do know what I’m doing.”

Jiang Cheng crosses his arms.

“So? They seem to have known whatever the fuck they were doing.” Jiang Cheng only recognizes half of the radicals on the array, and have never seen them used this way.

“Quite the opposite, actually.” Wei Ying hums. “There’s no rhyme or reason to the stuff they have here. It’s looking more like they somehow managed to steal a bag of standard talismans, did a bang up job of translating and reverse-engineering them, and thought that made them clever enough to start making their own.”

Jiang Cheng snorts. “Sounds like someone I know.” Wei Ying had pretty much started out the same - except he did have some proper guidance and supervision so his fuck-ups were a lot less lethal and only a bit more annoying.

Wei Ying sticks out his tongue at him, then takes out a blank piece of paper, pressing it onto a part of the array on the table. It sizzles and the smell of something burning fills the room. When Wei Ying lifts it, multiple arrays have been singed onto it. “Ah, perfect – it works!”

Jiang Cheng pinches the bridge of his nose. “Please tell me you didn’t just use your experimental talisman on valuable undocumented evidence.”

“But I didn’t! It’s perfectly intact.” Wei Ying pats the table. “Besides, it’s not like you didn’t already have everything documented – I know how ornery you get about your procedures.”

“You know, this is why the Council hounds you about your research methodologies.”

“My methodologies are perfectly fine, thank you; it’s those old coots who’re prissy about tradition.” Wei Ying crouches down to the bigger array on the floor, careful to break the outer line before sticking another piece of paper to it. “If I stuck to all their red tape, I would’ve never gotten half the results I have!”

Ugh. Wei Ying better be grateful it’s only seasoned Jiang disciples in the area. Anyone else would've ratted him out to the Council, who'd probably suspend him again. But as much as he hates directly saying it to his face, his brother does know what he’s doing.

So Jiang Cheng hangs back and keeps an eye out for any other intruders or lingering trouble while Wei Ying gathers and dismantles all of the arrays and talismans in the room. He and the other disciples have already done an initial sweep, but it’s been hours. A lot of things can still go wrong in a nighthunt, especially ones tossed to them by the police.

Of course his brother keeps yammering away the whole time. Muttering about whatever the heck he’s deciphering from the papers, but mostly about his two apprentices, their nephew, and unfortunately, his boyfriend. Eyeurgh.

And normally, he’d pretend he’s not listening to any of his drivel, except Wei Ying takes on a weird tone, which means he’s bothered by something, which means that stupidly high and mighty Hanguang-jun of his must have done something, enough that his brother’s consciously talking around whatever the fuck’s bothering him than just spitting it out, which means he has to intervene before his brother does something stupid.

Well, more stupid than usual.

Because loathe as he may be to admit it, the exalted (eyeroll) second young master of the Lan Sect really is... good, to and for his brother.

And it wouldn't be the first time he has to talk his brother out of his self-destructive habits.

Jiang Cheng sighs. At least he’ll have something new to report to a-jie.

“Okay, from what I can see, they were either trying to transform into a child, or hoping to revive the dead.” Wei Ying rubs the tip of his nose.

Jiang Cheng stares. What. What?

“But, you know, with the logic of someone drunk and half-blind, so I wouldn’t worry too much. This one on the floor still has some juice in it though, so, careful not to step on it.” Wei Ying grins cheekily. “Unless of course you wanna turn into a kid or revive a dead pet - my bet’s on de-aging, which, if it works, might help you get rid of some of your frown lines.”

Jiang Cheng takes a deep breath and counts backwards from 10, just like his therapist taught him.

“If the authorities get wind of the fact that some crazy occultist is murdering kids, and using our arrays and talismans, then we definitely have reason to worry - especially you, pioneer of modern arrays and talismans!”

Of course, Wei Ying simply rolls his eyes at this, flipping through the bloodstained papers on the floor, like he’s got nothing to lose. Jiang Cheng wants to grab him by the shoulders and shake him until he gets some sense of self-preservation.

Wouldn’t be the first time, in any case.

“It wouldn’t be any different from a psychopathic murderer putting their victims’ dead bodies into a blender. In the first place, neither the blender nor this particular array were inherently made for killing. Could they blame the manufacturers who had nothing to do with the misuse of their creations?”

“You say that like it’s never stopped idiots from doing it before.”

Wei Ying shrugs.

“Well, they could, but it wouldn’t stick in court. Besides,” he pauses, an odd look settling over his face. “Neither the blender nor the array caused their deaths.”

Jiang Cheng frowns, moving closer even as a sense of dread builds in his guts. In his hands is a rudimentary version of a spiritual attraction flag - not unlike one of the first designs his brother ever made that had never made it to publication.

Wei Ying had scrapped it because it lacked the finesse the latter ones have now, and they didn’t dispel easily. Which posed a problem if the strokes are enough to summon high grade demons. Like the one in his hands. That had probably been a reverse-engineered talisman by an untrained occultist.

“I’m not sure our exceptionally lucky occultist is still here, either.”

Jiang Cheng catches the look his brother shoots him, forefinger tapping at his nose. He closes his eyes and with a quick search, finds it, too.

So, it’s like that, huh?

With a slow breath, Jiang Cheng sends a frisson of energy through his ring, until Zidian uncoils down his wrist. With a flick, he snaps Zidian up at the rafters, where something crouches in the shadows. Zidian wraps around them quickly and Jiang Cheng pulls.

If their occultist were still human, they would’ve landed and stayed there, possibly with a dislocated shoulder or a broken hip. This creep lands between him and Wei Ying with a bone shattering crash, yowling like a feral cat writhing as resentful energy pours from it.

Jiang Cheng doesn’t get a clearer view before a tail - a tail?! - plows into him, flinging him into a rotted wooden shelf. It gives beneath him and only years of training and experience helps him get out unscathed.

Well, fuck. That’s a freakishly strong mo.

“Jiang Cheng!”

Jiang Cheng opens his eyes just in time to see the mo make a lunge for him.

He ducks underneath, snapping at it with an electric jolt from Zidian to buy him more time. The demon crashes head-first into the wall.

“You okay?” Wei Ying says, talismans out in one hand, Suibian in his other.

“I’m fine.” Jiang Cheng reverts Zidian back. It won’t be of much help until they get the thing out in the open. “You better have gotten most of your shit, ‘cause it doesn’t look like this place will last for much longer.”

The storehouse groans and creaks around them.

“Eh, it can’t be helped. It’s that active array I’m worried about. Best we get away so we don’t accidentally land on it.”

Ahead, the mo rises from beneath the rubble.

Wei Ying lowers his stance into the deceptively open one – the one that used to fool him when they were kids still training.

“That makes this easier, then.”

Spoiler alert: it both does and doesn't.

Somewhere between disabling the spirit lure and batting away all the demons it gathers, it begins to rain cats and dogs, visibility going from annoyingly subpar to fucking abysmal.

So of course it's then that one of the demons slips free, long tail catching Jiang Cheng in the gut, hurling him back into the rubble of the shack, right by the blasted array they've managed to dance around the whole night.

And of fucking course, his stupid brother is reckless enough to shove him away, but stupid enough to get caught in it himself.

He sees a flash of a talisman, red strings binding the demon, Xia Baolin, one of his faster disciples, cutting off its head with one sweep. He hears the yelp of his brother and feels the rush of potent transformative energy just beneath the racket.

Fuck, fuck, fuck.

Jiang Cheng scrambles to get up, the disciples' yells drowned out by his own internal fuck fuck fuck you better be alive you bastard!

“Wei Wuxian! Answer me, dammit!”

“I'm okay!” A child?

Hey, It's hundreds of years later, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji are immortals. Immortals are known but they dont photograph well and aren't really in the media's eye. In 2010s some one discovers the documents detailing the shamelessness of the ancient Wangxian and Lan Yuan tells his parents what the mordern world has discovered.

This is the first time I'm ever giving a prompt. Sorry if I did it wrong. Let me know if I did it wrong and I'll try again.

'A recent archeological discovery declared a win for gays everywhere.'

Sizhui chuckles and clicks on the link, curious. It is always amusing to see modern people become so excited about such things. 'Gays' have existed for as long as 'hets' have existed, after all.

'As we have reported before, archeologists working at the Gusu Library site recently discovered a hidden chamber full of sacred, forbidden texts. Among these texts was the infamous Collection of Turmoil, which may have been used to kill Nie Mingjue, a Sect Leader from the Five Great Sects era.'

Sizhui frowns, wondering why his A'die let that happen. Hadn't they removed all harmful books from the library centuries ago?

'But archeologists also discovered something that probably didn't belong in the forbidden section, a record of correspondence between sects, all meticulously archived.

"We have letters with precise dates and summaries." Wang Chuhua, the leader of the GusuLan archeological team and a Cultivation History professor at Gusu University explains to us, "They give us fascinating insight into the period just after the Five Great Sects era. We tend to gloss over this time because nothing eventful happens. It is a period of gradual decline of bloodline-based Sects and the rise of Culvation Schools. But day-to-day events are interesting in their own way."

They're indeed interesting, as the team discovered very quickly.

"Our first reaction to those letters was shock. You see, people don't really understand the historical significance of the two people mentioned here. Hanguang-jun-"

Sizhui pauses, his eyes wide. He stares at the words for a moment before shaking his head sharply.

"Hanguang-jun and the Yiling Patriarch were both great Cultivators. They were admired and studied by the first Independent Cultivators. In fact, many used the fall of Yiling Patriarch as an example of why being independent from the Sects was a good idea."

For those who don't know, the Yiling Patriarch Wei Wuxian defected from his Sect to protect a small group of war prisoners. He was betrayed by his martial brother and thought to be killed. It is likely that he was forced to flee for his life and hid for thirteen years before being discovered again.

"It was common knowledge, even two hundred years later, that Hanguang-jun and the Yiling Patriarch were unfailingly loyal to each other. There are some romanticized tales of Lan Wangji being punished so severely for helping Wei Wuxian that he needed years to recover." Wang Chuhua elaborates, "But while we could speculate on the nature of their relationship, we didn't have any proof until we found the letters."

These letters are complaints from various Sect leaders and cultivators. Apparently, the two great cultivators weren't just friends, they were married. And by all accounts, they enjoyed their marriage very much.

"Oh yes, they were quite... shameless in their displays of affection." Wang Chuhua adds with a chuckle, "People often stumbled across them 'embracing' on open fields or in woodlands. There's one particularly interesting letter from an inn owner requesting compensation for loss of business. Apparently, the couple were so loud in during their lovemaking, they chased all other guests away."

Sizhui chokes and feels his face burn in embarrassment.

'These letters cover over sixty years, which means Hanguang-jun and the Yiling Patriarch continued to scandalize the Cultivation World for six decades. "They were scandalous but also highly respected. Lan Wangji, in particular, was well-known for his honesty and forthrightness. Wei Wuxian is still considered one of the most brilliant cultivators of all time. We still study some of his theories today, particularly pertaining to Ying Energy Cultivation. Back then, this branch of cultivation was considered unorthodox and highly controversial."

So, it is indeed a win for the gays everywhere. Two well-known, historically significant cultivators were clearly in a loving, passionate gay relationship. And their society accepted it wholeheartedly, even if there were a few complaints about their scandalous behavior.'

"Wholeheartedly is a strong word," Sizhui mutters faintly but he can feel a rush of amusement as his embarrassment fades away.

He quickly forwards the article to his Baba and Jingyi, knowing both of them would die laughing while reading it.

It takes Baba barely five minutes to respond. The text has about a million cry laughing emojis, his Baba's favorite. Needless to say, he is amused.

"thanks for the laugh, Sizhui!" His Baba replies, "Even Lan Zhan is laughing and you know how rare it is!"

'Not rare at all,' He thinks fondly, shaking his head in amusement. He can barely remember that time before Baba's resurrection, when A'die wore a bitter, brittle expression of grief even as he lived his life fully.

That expression is a distant memory. There's always a laugh or smile in his A'die's eyes these days.

Baba won't have it any other way.

how about a scenario where LWJ bites his tongue and puts on his big boy pants and goes to JC for help during the Yiling Patriarch era and is forced to recognize that keeping JC and WWX separate and at odds is not a good thing.

“I need your help,” Lan Wangji said.

Jiang Cheng blinked owlishly at him. He hadn’t had much contact with Lan Wangji – no, that was a lie, there were all those days and nights of working together to try to find Wei Wuxian in the early days of the Sunshot Campaign, when they’d teamed up to convince everyone that they could be spared, teamed up to search high and low, teamed up to fight their way into any place they thought he might have been kept.

He hadn’t had much contact with Lan Wangji since then.

Not since they’d found Wei Wuxian, and Lan Wangji had so inexplicably turned even more cold than usual, threatening Wei Wuxian with a forced return to Gusu, insisting on him stopping the demonic cultivation that was helping them win the war, that it was damaging his temperament –

Jiang Cheng supposed he was right about that last one.

“What’s wrong?” he asked, rubbing his face. He was so tired that he couldn’t even spare the time to panic – rebuilding was hard, and he was wary of accepting too much help from Lanling Jin, even despite the engagement between his sister and Jin Zixuan and the wedding that would be happening sooner rather than later thanks to certain indiscretions that he wished he wasn’t so ready to believe of his sister. His sect was too weak to afford such a reliance, making it seem like he couldn’t handle matters himself – he wasn’t as shameless as Gusu Lan, with Lan Xichen freely leaning on his sworn brother, but he also couldn’t compare to the self-sufficient Nie sect, which had never fallen into Wen hands. “Did something happen…?”

“No,” Lan Wangji said, then struggled. “Yes…no. It is – there is no new crisis.”

“Good,” Jiang Cheng said, now completely mystified. “What can I help you with, then?”

“Wei Ying.”

Jiang Cheng felt a chill run down his spine. “Did something happen to him?” he asked, alarmed. “Did he do something?”

He couldn’t say it. He shook his head and looked back at Lan Wangji.

“What is it you wanted help with again?”

“Wei Ying,” Lan Wangji said again. “I went to visit him – to tell him about the marriage.”

Jiang Cheng nodded. “I went as well,” he confessed. He thought Lan Wangji could be trusted with this – and anyway, there were no witnesses. He could deny it later. “We met in the town. Jiejie wanted to show him her wedding clothes.”

And for him to pick a courtesy name for Jiang Cheng’s upcoming nephew, thanks a lot for that, jiejie, you really couldn’t wait a few more weeks?!

Not that Jiang Cheng would admit something like that in front of an outsider, of course.

“There is nothing on the mountain,” Lan Wangji said, oddly intense. “Only Wei Ying, the child, elderly…my brother thinks there is an army.”

Jiang Cheng blinked, then frowned. “That’s absurd. The only army up there is the dead, except Wei Wuxian wouldn’t be stupid enough to overturn graves in the places where he resides. It’s more of a potential army than anything else.”

Jiang Cheng had always thought so, but the last year seemed to suggest otherwise.

Jiang Cheng faltered.

If he really could bring Wei Wuxian back – even with the rest of the Wen sect, even with Wen Ning, he didn’t care, he’d tolerate it all, just to get him back.

“You really think we can convince them?”

Lan Wangji nodded.

Jiang Cheng exhaled. “All right,” he said. “I’ll try it. But you have to be there, too!”
