MDZS Transmigration!AU

Okay, hear me out, what if Lan Wangji was a transmigrator? Like, OG!Lan Wangji would be this cold, rude a**hole who teamed up with the rest of the clans to drive Wei Ying to suicide in the original story. All the shenanigans upto Guanyin Temple happen, and LWJ is killed by NMJ's spirit along with JGY in the end, all orchestrated by NHS.

Sweet, shy, quiet Lan Zhan stumbles upon this webnovel, and instantly hates Lan Wangji (who has a large fan base for some reason) for what he did to his favourite character, Wei Ying. He is miraculously transported into the story as Lan Wangji, and immediately takes it upon himself to fix everything. Soon enough, he falls for Wei Ying.

Xichen obviously notices that it's not his brother, so they talk about it, and Lan Zhan tells him all about what happens. So, Jin Guangshan is prevented and Xichen keeps a close eye on Meng Yao. The Jiang family survives — no one dies, including Jin Zixuan. Lan Zhan befriends Huaisang early on, to not get on his bad side, and gets him married to Jiang Cheng.

The drama with the Wens still happen, though. Jiang Cheng still loses his core, and Wei Ying gives his own core to him and takes up demonic cultivation. (The core-giving was not explicitly mentioned in the original webnovel, so there was nothing Lan Zhan could do, since he didn't know about it.) But, it was easier to get rid of them this once, and the Lan sect agreed to house the Dafan Wens after the war.

Wei Ying still becomes the Yiling Patriarch, and many people hate him, but it's better that what actually happened in the webnovel. He doesn't die, falls in love with Lan Zhan very late (cue the infinite pining) and marries him later on.

Wei Ying probably starts his own sect, and Lan Zhan leaves Gusu to live there. A happy ending, ha!

(But imagine what would happen if he was suddenly catapulted back into his real world one day? He'd be shattered and heartbroken for days until he meets Wei Ying again there. The romance part 2 probably starts there, with Wei Ying pretending to not have crossed over from that world to see him.)

Especially when the host, Yunmeng Jiang's Jiang Wanyin, is one half of that couple. 

The other half is Jiang Wanyin's husband, Nie Sect Leader, Nie Huaisang. 

Who is currently, lazily, fanning himself and making direct eye contact with his husband, while slowly licking his lips from one corner of his mouth to the other. 

Lan Wangji couldn't help but to see it. He was sitting directly across from Nie Huaisang and had direct line of sight to this shameless display. 

Jiang Wanyin, to his discredit, from his raised seat at the head of the hall, eyes Nie Huaisang up and down. If Lan Wangji could describe the look in his eyes he would say that it was flirty with a touch of predatory. 

This whole exchange only lasted a few moments but was seen by nearly every person in the hall. The young Jin Sect Leader, Jin Rulan, was blushing furiously and glaring at the ground. No doubt embarrassed by his uncle's blatancy. 

Sect Leader Yao's droning speech about the newly found (discovered by Yao Sect, of course) correct methods to properly maintain a sword's sheath stuttered to a halt at the display. He loudly, obnoxiously, and with warrant, cleared his throat. 

"Perhaps," he said archly. "Sect Leaders Jiang and Nie might benefit from a short recess? The rest of us certainly would." 

Jiang Wanyin, at least, had the decency to blush. 

Nie Huaisang, on the other hand, ignoring the words for what they were, groaned in false discomfort. "What an excellent idea, Sect Leader Yao! My poor buttocks are becoming quite numb from sitting for so long!"

He stood up and sauntered his way over to stand in front of Jiang Wanyin. He raised his hands and made a parody of a bow. 

"Would this one's husband care to join me for a stroll?" He asked coyly. 

"With pleasure," Jiang Wanyin replied, his intent clear. To the room at large he said, "Sect Leaders, let us break for a thirty minute recess." 

Then the two were gone. 

Lan Wangji almost, almost, had a hard time believing that the Jiang Wanyin, who would regularly presume to criticise his relationship with his husband, Wei Ying, would have the impudence to now act in such a similar way himself.

What was that saying again? 

Ah, yes. 

The pot calling the kettle black. 

Thoughts of his husband made Lan Wangji rise to his feet and exit the hall. With long, unhurried strides, he made his way to the Jiang Ancestral Hall, where he knew he would find Wei Ying no doubt praying to his older sister and telling her about his daily life in the Cloud Recesses. 

On the way though, he stopped. And felt a sneer sneak its way onto his face. There, on the same wooden walkway as him, just off to one side against the wall of a building, and barely hidden behind some plants, were Jiang Wanyin and Nie Huaisang. 

Their mouths were locked in a deep, passionate kiss. Nie Huaisang's arms were wrapped around Jiang Wanyin's neck. And Jiang Wanyin had one hand sneaking its way inside Nie Huaisang's robes. The other hand was wrapped firmly around his waist. 

Lan Wangji cleared his throat, loudly. And felt a sense of accomplishment when the two broke apart, quickly, and acting like they had been caught doing something they shouldn't have. 

"Ah, Hanguang Jun!" Nie Huaisang breathlessly laughed, straightening his robes. "Were you perhaps looking for either Sect Leader Jiang, or myself?" 

Lan Wangji did not reply to the query. He simply looked Jiang Wanyin square in the eye, slightly raised one brow, and said, with all the judgement he could muster in one word: "Really?" 

With that one word he saw four emotions cross Jiang Wanyin's face. First confusion, then recollection, followed by understanding and finally shame. 

Lan Wangji felt a thrill of petty vindication.

And it was petty, his judgement of Jiang Wanyin's actions, but it also felt good. 

Without waiting for a response from the pair that was sure to come, he continued walking towards the Jiang Ancestral Hall. And as he neared he could hear his husband's voice, loud, and full of joy, as he regaled Jiang Yanli's Memorial plaque about his latest hilariously failed experiment. 

Yes. Lan Wangji felt like today was shaping up to be quite a good day.

Have you ever noticed how their colors complement each other's?? I know Green and Purple sound insane, but make it dark like their struggles in life and I can see it like a sunset and a mountain finding each other on the horizon.

Also also also!! Their stories are literally a mirror of each other??? Their infinite love for their brothers, their grief driving them to all types of madness, but while Jiang Cheng wore his anger on his sleeves and drove his Sect like with an iron fist, Huaisang had to swallow his rage and pride, working in shadows to see his revenge done.

Oooooh another awesome mirror point is how Jiang Cheng seems to doubt his steps all the time, not sure of his own power and control all the time, Huaisang couldn't even think of doubting himself, because that would mean his death and the death of his entire Sect. When he chose the path of revenge, he knew there wouldn't be going back.

This was the first mystery/casefic I ever wrote, the first time I think I ever put real work and effort into creating tension and plot suspense, and I am still so super happy with how it turned out! also some of my favourite fight scenes I've ever written. an incredible podfic was recorded for it and I have lost track of how many times I've listened to it on long journeys.

Oooh, fun question! Here’s 5 solid contenders + some bonus runner ups haha, not in ranked order… this was kinda hard because my memory is so bad LOL, but also disqualified ships where I like them mainly bc of one character/one character is mainly focused on so it feels less balanced 😭 I tried to put ships where I like both characters individually & together.

1. (Current) Nagi/Reo from Blue Lock/Episode Nagi: they have the raaaange, I adore them sm… both amazing individual characters and then amazing together! Mostly love the mutual pining & misunderstandings, they love each other SO much in a way i couldn’t comprehend finding in a series like blue lock LOOOL (re: focus on ego/individualism) and it makes them all the more special. Also BLLK releases amazing AU ideas with their merch very often. I think Episode Nagi’s focus on them has been so beautiful (visually and emotionally) and I love the introspective look into their characters!! They’re really so so in love… my beautiful children I wish for their happiness… i love that they can be silly, stupid, bratty, and exceedingly soft with each other… wah…

2. Kouen/Judal from Magi: my forever most beloved rarepair… I love a good king x right hand + some degree of growing up together! They had me from their introduction scene where Judal made Kouen laugh, and they’ve had me every since ❤️ I really loved writing for them and I miss them often. I like their gray nature, Kouen’s role as a responsible/ruthless big brother type … with a soft side… and Judal is so charming in his bratty bravado and vulnerable center!!! also their powers are amazing haha. complementary!!! fire and ice!!!

3. Naruto/Sasuke from Naruto… the OGs, my first ship ever… what can I even say about them that captures how special they are to me LOOOL god… they rewired my brain, little nena was like “wow so this is what love is” bc of them… i started writing fanfic bc of them and realized my own queer identity LOL omg they are truly my big grand first love… writing this out it’s clear I have a type for “friends(ish) to lovers with conflict along the way” LOL and they were my first!!! Truly truly… so many special first experiences here. And I love them as they are ofc, not just for what they mean to me, but god. Theyre so special haha. Friends to rivals to almost lovers to eNEMIES/rivals again who YEARN ohsxhhsjx sun and moon… soulmates… thru thick and thin… nothing can get in their way for long…

4. Jiang Cheng/Nie Huaisang from MDZS: my beautiful damaged lonely boys with a fragile thread of the past connecting u both. when u were happy. when things were ok. and now you both have no one… unless… what if… u kindled ur bond aha… I think SC has a v unique dynamic and they came to me at a time in my life where I was depressed anxious and bitter LOL, perfeeect timing. And I think my time with my friends in sangcheng fandom was one of the most special, creative, collaborative and loving times of solace I have ever had in a fandom. ❤️ Truly the importance of finding ur own safe corner cannot be stressed enough… we did collabs and ship weeks!! (honorary mention to Nie Mingjue/Lan Xichen here — also loved NieLan and running ship MONTH for them hehehe! but sc was my main.)

5. Dongfang Qingcang/Xiao Lanhua from Cang Lan Jue/Love Between Fairy and Devil: truly one of my favorite shows EVER and the romance is SOOOOO good, i cried several times. i’m willing to rewatch the show and usually i dont like rewatches… Unwilling collaborators/“enemies” to friends to lovers… so much emotional growth and healing and the lengths they’ll go to for each other… they’re silly, they’re sappy, they work thru their differences, he’d burn the world down for her and she’d die for him… sobbing into my hands whoooooo does it like them.

(… and an unofficial top favorite ship… is my Warrior of Light x Haurchefant Greystone from Final Fantasy XIV lol… a little too embarrassed and shy to get into that but. lol. not quite a self insert bc i think of my WoL as his own character and not me, but since im playing him and he resembles me a bit… lol. he’s my son! but. anyway, haurchewol is special to me too.)

i def enjoy it, but i’m veeeeery selective about it. (ive never read it outside of a fanfic setting though, so idk if it's different in novels and stuff)

Things I don't like:

i don’t care for the forced gender roles/stereotypical take that some people go for where it’s just “Alpha = masculine possessive dom & Omega = feminine helpless sub + what if cis men experienced misogyny and omegas are all subclass citizens” bc the social commentary is redundant and usually just depressing imo. So i prefer a setting where it's normal for both men and women to have secondary genders/get pregnant and have pups or whatever and there's no discrimination involved or it's just very minimal and not the focus of the story

i also don’t like the non-con ones unless done well. often times they’re too cringe for me

anything where they call each other Alpha/Omega/Beta instead of their actual names lmao

i’ll only read heat related ones if it’s established relationship bc i don’t like it when the heat is used just to facilitate a relationship.

i don’t usually like collars or heat-runs involved either

for fanfic i’m also really picky about what certain characters’ secondary genders are. bc tbh sometimes ppl make them either super stereotypical or too ooc. like for danmei fic i would only read an omega!JC fic if it’s XianCheng, bc everything else makes him act like a 90’s anime Uke. tho there’s a sangcheng author that has written omega!JC x Alpha!NHS pretty well but i can’t really vibe with Top!NHS (for reasons i’ve previously mentioned) and it's rare to find fics with bottom!Alphas/top!Omegas lolol. Jiang Yanli is still alive and I think Jin zixuan too, but when wwx talks to JY he’s always formal and she can tell something is going on, there’s also wangxian and I think JGY is the one behind everything under his father’s commands
