Obsessed with Xie Lan as a character. Like I know everyone reads these books for the romance but the individual character concepts are hilarious.

Xie Lan is a prince. He eats poison on the reg. He’s forever stuck looking like he’s nineteen. He’s the oldest guy in the communication array. He knows kung fu. He dressed in drag to catch a ghost on two separate unrelated occasions. He’s the world greatest detective. He’s kind. He was forced into a trolley problem and chose to pull the lever. His cooking is awful to the point it could kill a god. He’s kind. He tried to give CPR to a ghost. He’s the unluckiest man alive. He’s been kicked out of heaven multiple times. He’s kind. He caught a kid from certain death and everyone was pissed at him forever about it. He regrets nothing but coming back to heaven.

The real hero of The Untamed is this random Lan disciple

Sixteen years ago, this disciple was present for the Salute ceremony at Cloud Recesses, responsible for reading the Lan Rules to the gathered students and announcing each Sect for their salute. He even had a front row seat to Wei Wuxian’s slap-fight with Wen Chao.

(Just out of frame is Lan Qiren stroking his beard)

This disciple is tasked with accompanying Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji on the search for Wei Wuxian

He even has a front-row seat to Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji’s conversations during this search

Sixteen years later, this disciple accompanies the Lan juniors to the Mo Manor, where he assists with the capture of the spirit sword

Is this disciple a senior disciple escorting the juniors? Is he a junior disciple who has been a junior for sixteen years? Did he get demoted at some point from announcer to babysitter? Who knows? Who cares? Because this disciple knows what Wei Wuxian looks like from his time at Cloud Recesses. And he sees Wei Wuxian without his mask at Mo Manor during the nighttime scenes.

(There he is, hanging out with the returned grandmaster of demonic cultivation)

And yet he never tells a soul that Wei Wuxian, the Yiling Laozu, has returned and is pretending to be Mo Xuanyu. 

This disciple is right there when Jiang Cheng whips Wei Wuxian with Zidian, keeping his mouth shut. The one man who saw Wei Wuxian pre-time skip, has recently seen Wei Wuxian without the mask on, and has the ability to confirm that Wei Wuxian has returned. Doesn’t say a word. 

And he can’t even pretend that he doesn’t know, because here they are hanging out in the same frame pre-time skip, practically making eye contact

This man is the first person to know that Wei Wuxian has returned and he keeps his mouth shut. What a legend

Something that means the world to me and makes me the happiest little creature in the universe ajksdhas So i decided to write a gift for them, inspired on several of their works, and this was the result.

I am 100% completely convinced that on Mount Yujun when Hua Cheng burst into thousands of butterflies that he did not mean to do that. That man was freaking out so bad at finally finding Xie Lian again and holding his hand and helping him and Xie Lian being right there that when he finally saw just the slightest glimpse of Xie Lian’s face and the thought of Xie Lian seeing him that his nerves took over and he burst into thousands of butterflies. All throughout the walk, Hua Cheng was trying his damnedest to keep it the fuck together (literally) but he just couldn’t anymore. You cannot convince me otherwise. He held Xie Lian’s hand all through the walk, but then he shakes Xie Lian’s hand off the next time they meet? Yeah, he’s scared he’s gonna explode into butterflies again and that would Not Be Cool and Ruin His Image he’s curating for Xie Lian as this cool reliable guy he can come to for help and depend on.
