IT'S DAVIJAAN ART EVERYONE
Look at himmm, the way you draw armour it's just perfection ❤️
Also I love the interaction between Odd Ball and Obi-Wan during the battle of Teth, where Obi-Wan saves him from those vulture droids and he's like, "Sorry I panicked" and Obi-Wan replies with "That's alright, Odd Ball. It happens to everybody." and I will never be NOT okay about that 😭 Clones are only human and the people in Star Wars tend to forget this too often (not Obi-Wan tho)
Thank you for drawing this good boy ❤️
Davijaan „Odd Ball“ appreciation! Did you notice this badass pilot got a cameo in The Clone Wars season 6 episode 3 during the Fives arc and in his short scene this poor hero instantly got roughed up by Fives on his escape from the Kaminoans? 👀 You can recognize him by the helmet markings.
He fought in several battles in key position as starfighter pilot like in the first battle of Geonosis, the battle of Teth, Umbara, Cato Neimoidia, Coruscant and Utapau and in my opinion he‘s one of the underrated clones!
And does anybody knows why he got the callsign ‚Odd Ball‘? I headcanon him as insecure, rough and calm nice guy who doesn‘t have an easy time with his brothers mocking him! I think he deserves some love and look at him in this nice pilot design! ✨😎

Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bearing the gifts that my brothers gave
I am the dream and the hope of the slaves
I rise
I rise
I RISE
I wanted to thank independant_variables who helped me write Saltwater, by feeding their love for CC-2237, aka Davijaan, and his best-brother bond with CC-2224, aka Cody.
You can find those two most notably in Prince with a Thousands Ennemies and hope has bloody knuckles, both of which I cannot recommend enough.
My friend, thank you.
The poem is an adaptation of "I rise" by Maya Angelou, tweaked just a bit to fit the clones' situation. It's absolutely fantastic.

stormy weather
Echo, no pairing
summary: Echo has a low and is in a lot of pain after his physical therapy. Wrecker is there to help. Set after TCW S7 E1-4.
warnings: derpessed feelings, hopelessness, phantom pain
words: ~1400
a/n: hello everyone! here's another fic for @summer-of-bad-batch! this time i could even bring in three different prompts: "you're a bad liar.", battle scars and the bonus prompt light in the darkness. it's been a long time since i wrote something for echo, i hope you enjoy!
MASTERLIST
Physical therapy was horrible.
He hated it with all his guts.
His legs hurt, they burned, and he felt like they were going to fall off. But the worst thing was: he couldn't make it feel better.
Hell, he didn't have those legs anymore and still they made his life so much more painful.
Pump, the physical therapist, tried to help him a lot and even though his tips and advice sometimes did wonders, he still hurt.
Then there was his stomach - he had problems adjusting to the amount of food he needed. When he was on Skako Minor, he was mostly fed with fluids. Now he needed to chew his food again, taste the grossness of it, and just swallow down the weird consistency.
Also - his muscles hurt. Pump always said he needed to build them up, so he can be fast and strong again. And he knew he had to. He really wanted to. But on some days, he just felt like he couldn't.
Today was a day like that.
Pump made him do some exercises with an odd looking thing. He never did those exercises before. Not even in ARC training. And even though he tried so hard, at some point he just couldn't do it anymore.
He felt like a failure. Like he wasn't good enough. How would he ever be able to keep up with everyone? Especially with the Batch? He could learn all their crazy plans, but how could he contribute anything, when he just wasn't strong, fast and persistent enough?
Pump had tried to cheer up him up, but Echo almost fled out of the training room.
He needed to get away. At the same time, he already felt the embarrassment creep up his neck. He felt like a shiny, on his first day on a Venator-class Star Destroyer, where everything was just overwhelming even though they already learned how it would be like on the inside. In theory, at least.
He was stumbling along the walls, trying to find his way to the Batch's barracks.
He just wanted to be alone and sulk in his hammock, until he felt better about his sorry self. He was so disappointed in himself and his lack of ability.
When he reached their barracks, he slipped inside. Relieved, he realized that he was alone. The others seemed to have training, or were up to something else.
He sighed once, before making his way over to his sleeping place, not bothering to turn the lights on.
From outside, he could hear thunder. The rain rattled against the large windows, and not for the first time he could laugh about the irony of Kamino. He felt like the weather was mirroring his conflicted and sad feelings. The storm outside was just as unpredictable and unhinged as the one inside him.
He curled up into a small ball, trying to disappear in himself.
When his hands... His hand touched his metal knees, and his scomp made a small 'clink' noise, he sighed a second time.
Never did he expect to turn out... like this, when he finally passed his final test, such a long time ago. With Fives, Hevy, Cutup and Droidbait.
He knew it was practically hopeless, but he still always imagined how all of them made it out of the war alive. Together. He liked to daydream about what would happen after all of it. After all the pain, and fear, and grief. He was sure Droidbaid would start a bakery one day. Cutup and Hevy would open a gym, just to train like maniacs themselves. And Fives probably would have traveled a lot. He always wanted to try and see new things. Just about his own future, Echo wasn't sure. But he soon realized, it wouldn't matter anyway.
After Rishi, after Hevy's, Droidbait's and Cutup's death, he realized that all their dreams and hopes were indeed meaningless.
He always thought he would during the war.
He was so sure he would, when that shuttle exploded on Lola Sayu.
He never knew what life would have brought for him, but he never would have guessed to turn out as a cyborg.
He almost didn't hear how the door opened behind him. Just when Wrecker's face appeared in his sight, he realized that he had company.
"Hey, Echo. Back again already?" the brawler asked and grinned down at him.
Echo looked back with big eyes. "Yeah," he nodded.
"So soon, too? Thought it would take another half an hour at least. How was it?" Wrecker started to talk to him, patting the side of his hammock.
Echo blinked a few times.
"Yeah... I-... Pump decided we should take a break. It was... great," he murmured and looked around, just not to meet Wrecker's eyes.
Wrecker stared at him for a few seconds, not moving an inch.
"Are you feeling okay?" he then decided to ask.
"I? Y-Yeah. I'm fine," he tried to assure his new brother, and forced a light smile on his face. It didn't reach his eyes. He knew that.
Wrecker knew, too: "You’re a bad liar."
He sighed again. "I know," he whispered.
Wrecker carefully stepped over and took a seat next to Echo, making the hammock swing back and forwards a few times.
"Do you want to talk about it?" he asked and put a hand on Echo's metallic calf. He couldn't feel the warmth of Wrecker's fingers, couldn't really feel the pressure. It was almost as if they weren't there at all.
Echo looked at Wrecker. At his younger, bigger brother, who seemed so happy and joyful all the time. He was so strong and gentle at the same time. And when Echo looked into Wrecker's face, at the scar and his milky eye, he just knew he could talk to him. When someone could understand what he was going through, even just in a slight way, it was Wrecker.
"It's just hard... Adjusting and stuff," he almost whispered.
He saw how Wrecker's thumb was moving up and down, swallowed, and took another breath.
"Physical therapy feels like torture. I can't- I just can't really do anything like I could before. I'm weak, and exhausted so fast. And I know it takes time, but it just takes... so long," he started to play around with his scomp, "and everything hurts."
Wrecker nodded, with an understanding look in his eyes.
"I know it's hard. And it's never going to be like before again. But we can try. We can try to make it easier. To make it better. And to make everything feel okay again," Wrecker said. "Healing isn't easy. It's hard and it's exhausting. And it's not just a straight line up. It's like a road full of holes and bumps and stones. But you have to try to jump over them, Echo."
Echo looked up at him with teary eyes. Wrecker's expression was so honest and genuine, that he didn't doubt a word he said.
"I know it's hard, but you have to keep going. I know you can. And if you need help, we're always here for you," Wrecker ended.
Echo nodded. He knew, but everything just seemed so hopeless sometimes.
"What helped you the most?" the former ARC-Trooper wanted to know.
A small smile appeared on his brother's lips.
"My brothers. The Batch," he said, and his smile grew even bigger.
"Every time I felt like I was at the bottom and couldn't do it anymore, they were there. And they pulled me up again. I couldn't have done it without them," he confessed, and Echo's heart warmed a bit by that.
He smiled at Wrecker, and he realized that everything just felt a little lighter.
The storm in him seemed to calm down a little. The clouds made space for a small ray of sunlight.
He still had aches everywhere, and he still was way too exhausted. But at least he felt a little spark of hope in him, like a light in the darkness. Warm and cozy, and ready to get even brighter.
Wrecker's words felt good, and he knew he could seek out the others whenever he needed them. Even Crosshair.
He knew everything would be going to be okay again. He knew he could do it. He knew he would be up and kicking again, even if it would take some time.
Sometimes he just needed a little heads up.

OG Bad Batch Fighting Styles TCW + TBB Ep 1
I meant to actually do the whole Bad Batch series too but alas. Here are the various things I’ve noted about their fighting styles based on what we saw in TCW and the TBB: Aftermath! Plus a headcanon or two.
Enjoy~* EDIT: Tumblr killed the format :(
Hunter
Acrobatics over power
Jaguar
My boy be pouncin’ all over the damn place
Leg sweeps
Weapon of Choice: Vibroblade or pistol
Sergeant Shaggy McStabby
Quick and brutal strikes, doesn’t leave enemy time to regroup
Switches between pistol and knife
Rush enemy head on→TCW S7E1
“Parkour!”
Watch out for them leggies
Cody-level kicks
Crosshair
Distance attacks (sniper, duh)
Loner and commonly fights alone
Rarely fights head on
Weapon of choice: Firepuncher Rifle he calls “Dauntless” (headcanon) and pistol
Never misses a shot
Main special attack→ Reflecto-Patches
Hints towards an affinity for judging angles/mathematics
Fights dirty in hand to hand
Tries to take out enemy from behind
HC→ When fighting organics, goes for pressure points
Leverage over power
Rarely moves quickly but is actually quite acrobatic
Sliding maneuver TCW S7E2
Surfin’ USA TBB S1E1
Unless you count getting flying side thrust kicked by a tween
Spooky scary sniper man
Stays out of direct fire and prefers a silent yet deadly ambush attack
Lookout and scout for more stealthy missions
Designated Driver→ TCW S7E1
Possible weakness: Bright flashes of light
TCW deleted scene S7E3 on pipe with lightning flash
He and Wrecker always have a “game” of who can take out the most droids
Crosshair often wins, apparently
Smug little shit
Can and will use legit anything as a deadly projectile
Blade, dart, lunch tray, hairbrush, look out it’s comin’ for you
Wrecker
Brute force→ Mutation
Lifted gunship, held up a leg of the giant whatever-that-thing-is in S7E3
Weapon of choice: Fists or giant vibro blade
Special Attacks
Wrecking Ball
“Let me see what you have.” “A knife!” “NO!”
“YEET”
Crushing power
Often gloats over defeated enemies
Somewhat sadistic
Exhibit A: TCW S7E4 “Not the face!”
Despises stealth
Impatient
Often takes the lead on frontal assaults
Often lays down cover fire/stays behind to give others more time
Does not follow orders
Literally any episode is an example
The bigger the odds, the happier he is
Weakness→ Heights
Basically Rico
“Kaboom!”
Jokes a lot when fighting
Dogpile on sentients→ TBB S1E1
Bit of a literal take on “I am the weapon”
Tech
Quick strikes
Agility and speed over physical power
TBB S1E1→ Zips in to place multiple detonators then remotely activates them
Outwits and outflanks, rarely uses a direct attack
Prefers to let others cover him while he uses a variety of distance weaponry
Not a melee fighter
But watch out for those legs (TBB S1E1)
Uses environment
Twin pistols
Highly sensitive when working with circuits→ Blocks everything else out while working with them
Quickly switches from “battle mode” once the fight is over
Nonchalant even during battle
Rarely seems bothered by anything
Tactics can verge on suicidal
“We jump!”

Henry Stickmin Pokemon AU Part 1: Henry
I considered waiting to draw some of these ideas BUT I just wanna get my thoughts out of my head SJDKDJFJKD
Anyways. My thoughts on Henry Stickmin characters and Pokemon. Part 1 because Henry alone warrants his own post.
Henry is odd, because he canonically has a Missingno., which suggests that for whatever reason, he was unable to acquire a Pokemon as late as Stealing the Diamond.
This is an AU, though, so I came up with an actual team for him. His team would depend almost entirely on which routes he took.
He'd start with just a Snorlax, with the moves Body Slam, Metronome, Covet, and Rest. It’d be his most loyal partner, helping him with most of the work. The rest of his team would vary based on which ranks/endings he got.
In Lawyered Up, he'd find a Chatot to seek out a lawyer for him. Both as a reference to the parrot from Ace Attorney, and because the route revolves around letting someone else do the talking for him.
In Sneaky Escapist, he'd find a Poke Ball containing a Scyther. Between its sharp blades and blinding speed, it'd be able to cut down the bars of his cell and keep up with him to escape.
A Drilbur would join him in Badass Bust Out, both to help him drill a hole in the floor and to lift up the drain cover.
Before now, Henry had been repeatedly pestered by a well meaning but clumsy Drifblim. Well, in Unseen Burglar, it finally pulls through and actually helps him out a lot with Fly and Phantom Force. I have this as a replacement for the Teleporter (would've gone with a Pokemon that actually knows teleport but thought this worked better). This unfortunately means that, whether it joined his team or not, Henry would get fed up with poor Drifblim and tell it off. Drifblim would torment Henry for this before dropping him off in a random location, being the vault, and leave for good.
Just Plain Epic route? Electrode, easy. It rolls up and explodes a hole in the wall for him, and it's also quick--perfect for keeping up during the Shenanigans.
Henry's new partner wouldn't show up until partway into Intruder on a Scooter, but it would be Octillery. Suction Cups for holding onto the diamond and the scooter without trouble, and Protect to provide Henry with a barrier to guard him from bullets.
Infiltrating the Airship--the first episode in which Henry gets Pokemon that actually affect him later! First of all is GSPI, in which he is given a Noivern with Telepathy with which to communicate with Charles. It'd serve the same purpose in SBO (with the addition of making a sound to disarm Sven), VH, and TT, while cuing Henry in on the Government's current mission in CeO.
RBH? He'd get his hands on a Stakataka that the Toppats. As odd of a choice as I'm sure it sounds, it made the most sense to me; while not very fast, it's super sturdy and can both ram into things (Double-Edge) and attack from a distance (Rock Blast), plus it would warrant Ellie's disbelief at Henry Kevin's such a thing and her later feelings of being unstoppable against the Toppat Clan. (For the sake of space, I'll discuss why the Toppat Clan had it in the first place in part 2.)
At the end of RPE, Henry would get a special Honchkrow that belongs exclusively to the Toppat Clan leader. It stays loyal to him in every ending, even choosing him over Reginald in TCW. Its loyalty to Henry helps in convincing Reginald that Henry is really right for the job after all. (I'll go into more detail on Honchkrow (and Reginald’s relationship with Honchkrow) in part 2. In fact, I'll probably dedicate part 2 to the Toppat Clan as a whole.)
In PBT, Henry would take a Magnezone from Mert Steel and ride away instead of stealing his mechanical suit.
Fleeing the Complex time! Thanks to the Pokemon revealed in gen 9, CA is easy: Henry and Ellie would ride away together on a Cyclizar that they have shared custody of instead of a motorcycle.
GI has Henry’s most valuable, yet cruelest catch. Now, spoilers for Ellie’s team, but one of the few Pokemon Ellie has in her possession is the legendary Azelf, the Being of Willpower. This Azelf is what she uses to help Henry in this route as well as CA. Unlike in CA, however, Henry takes Azelf with him, leaving Ellie behind. It doesn’t do much for Henry other than serve as bragging rights.
In PD, Henry comes across a wandering Aegislash to defeat Karlov’s Gallade in a Pokemon battle. Aegislash also comes through at the end, holding Henry up so that he doesn’t fall to his death. It shields him from some of the damage from Charles’ spaceship in VH.
In TB and IRO, the phone Henry takes is possessed by a Rotom, which helps him to contact either Charles or Reginald. It also helps Henry communicate with H.J. Canterbury in MBH. And now we get to the behemoth: Completing the Mission.
In TK, Henry catches a Magikarp and has it use Bounce to help him just barely reach the rocket. Not the greatest of options but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
In FM, he’d find the Poke Ball to a min-maxed Toucannon in the Toppat Clan’s weapons’ vault and go ham with it.
At the end of SBO and MBH, Galeforce would gift Henry a Braviary as reward for his help in taking down the Toppat Clan. This one would be shiny, as blue works better for Henry than red.
As thanks for their help in TT, Charles would gift Henry and Ellie each with a Trapinch egg so that they could eventually have a Flygon like him. Henry’s ends up being shiny.
Some amount of time after Henry steals the rocket in SSR, he’d acquire a Kantonian Persian to fit with his “classy resort owner” aesthetic.
Remember the Toppat leader’s Honchkrow? Henry would end up with it at the end of JB, since Reginald got sucked into the vacuum of space.
Henry would find the Poke Ball of a Golduck on the train, which he uses to fight Mr. Macbeth. Scratch for Fight, Pay Day for Act/Bribe, Me First for Items/Mirror, and Charm for Spare.
At the end of TR, Henry and Ellie would each get a Murkrow, as is standard protocol for Toppat Clan members. (Ellie’s ends up being shiny.)
At the end of PP, Galeforce gifts Henry and Ellie with a starter Pokemon as thanks for their help. Henry chooses Oshawott, Ellie chooses Snivy.
The Government would likely make use of sturdy Pokemon such as Donphan in addition to tanks. Instead of stealing a tank at the end of T4L, Henry steals a Donphan from the Government.
In CeO, he finds a Poke Ball containing a shiny Gogoat, which he rides away on instead of the golden race car.
Charles’ Flygon survives the events of VH and joins Henry’s team after the loss of its original trainer.
In TCW, Henry doesn’t gain a Pokemon--he instead loses a Pokemon: upon Ellie’s arrival, Azelf returns to its original trainer to assist in overthrowing Henry.
Capital Gainz? Easy: Henry and Ellie each get a different form of Gimmighoul. Not because the Toppat Clan *own* them, but because they keep showing up and won’t leave because of all the money.
Revenged is... a darker one. Originally belonging to Dr. Vinschpinsilstien, an Alolan Marowak would sense Henry’s desire for revenge after being revived and choose to go with him. Instead of the Y-type move, Henry would have it use the Z-Move Inferno Overdrive. Thanks to being returned to its Poke Ball, it would survive the airship crash, but it would break out after the fact and transform Henry’s spirit into flames, mourning him with its dance.
I’ll either have one or two more parts to this, because I have a feeling that the Toppat Clan could warrant its own post.

Clones note 2
Even if I slowly turning my mind away from TCW, my brain is still thinking the young clones I was talking about in this post >> https://nicodemuslily.tumblr.com/post/679785770785112064/clones-note
So here are a few more just for you (don’t thank me, it’s my pleasure. XD). They were all part of the highly prematured.
Cobalt: he lives with the 501st boys and he’s the protégé of Odd Ball. He suffers of a myopathic disease that prevents him to walk and even to stand up. When all his brothers of the same age were starting to walk, he was grumpy because of the frustration. As so, Odd Ball started to think about something to help him to move and play with his brothers. Anyway, Cobalt is still a joyful boy who is really independent no matter what.
Slater: he’s a 104th boy who suffers of achromatopsia. That means that he can’t see colours. Not just green and red like a colourblind people, but all the colours. He can only see gradient of greys (and black and white, of course). Apparently arrogant and self confident, he’s secretly searching for hugs with Comet and Fungus (when he’s mocking Clayton, calling him Teddybear).
Argyll: another 104th boy. I already talked about him in a previous post, but I wasn’t sure about his name yet. Now, my little pirate is definitively Argyll. Even without his left eye, the guy is living his life like any other boy.
So, yes, you may have guess, Cobalt and Argyll come from this post >> https://nicodemuslily.tumblr.com/post/687482737864622080/disabled-au-i-dont-know-if-there-is-a-more
I still have to name the one with a heart condition. Next time maybe. :)

I know that considering (TCW-2008) refs/characters in this episode that it won’t be your fav but can you please share your child development thoughts for S02E05 please??
They may have been stuff I wasn’t fond of but there were so many cute Baby & Dad moments to make up for it!!
First of all, the puppeteers deserves ALL THE AWARDS for bringing Baby Yoda to life! Not just making Baby “come alive” in general, but also that sort-of-awkward way children move when they don’t have complete confidence in their limbs yet. The are doing a phenomenal job this season and I hope they are all safe and healthy and have all the chocolate they want. Not only is it fantastic from a special effects perspective, it really highlights how far Baby has come now that he’s not stuck in a pod all day and implies that Din is trying to keep him active and physically healthy, and giving him opportunities to develop his muscles and muscle control. (Just imagine them playing a makeshift game of chase through the Razor Crest!)
I absolutely loved Din saying “Hey, what did I tell you” because I have said those exact words in that exact tone SO MANY TIMES and also his Dad Voice is getting so much better! Baby actually listens to him and understands that Din expects him to listen! Of course he still wants the ball (and apparently takes it enough that Din has been practicing his Dad voice on that too, “What did I say about that” is another phrase I also use at work).
Though there may have been another reason he wants the ball this time - as a comfort item, like a child bringing their favorite stuffie to the first day of school. Baby was there when the Armorer told Din to find Jedi to bring the Baby to. He has been listening a lot when Din talks about finding Jedi to train him and give him to. I think Baby is very, very aware of the fact that the end goal is to leave him with the Jedi and is very afraid of leaving his beloved father. He would’ve had stable caretaker(s) at the Jedi Temple but in the last twenty years who knows what’s happened to him. His subdued, don’t-draw-attention-to-myself behavior in Season 1 definitely makes me think he’s been neglected, bare minimum, and possibly abused. Din not only treats him kindly but actually takes care of his needs, is kind to him, and is the most stable presence in his life. Of course he’d be terrified to leave him!
I think that’s also why he doesn’t play ball with Ahsoka, so to speak. We all know he can lift a mudhorn, a rock is no problem for him. He could do it in a heartbeat. But I think he understood that if he showed off for her, Ahsoka might take him away. So he refused for that, and because it’s very common at that age to refuse to do something to regain control of a situation. (That’s why you get kids enjoying telling you “No!” and the whole terrible twos thing.) If he refuses, he stays in control of what’s happening. But of course Din knows exactly how to tempt him with his favorite ball, and kids do want to please adults they like. Anything to hear that sweet, sweet positive reinforcement. So it wasn’t just the shiny ball that convinced Baby - it was the fact that Din was the one playing with him, and that Din so enthusiastically tells him good job. (And Din is noticeably more into it when using the orb. Maybe he and Baby have played with it before? So it’s more natural to both of them. And he was truly so proud of his boy!! It was adorable.)
It’s the same with hearing his real name, which he presumably hasn’t heard in twenty years. He responds when Ahsoka says it, but when Din says it? He’s instantly turned around, ears perked all the way up in “happy” mode. It’s special when Din says it, because Din is special to him.
Which then ties into the whole attachment thing. Baby is very healthily attached to Din. There’s a reason we stick kids with the same teacher for a year plus at a time, it’s because kids are comfortable with a regular person they can get to know, just like adults are. To Baby, Ahsoka is just some orange stranger and Din is his dad. Of course he is more attached to Din and has fears over losing him, especially if he’s been deprived of that for the last 20-odd years! It’d be different if Din was sticking around to transition Baby somewhere new, or just dropping him off for lessons. But leaving a parent permanently and abruptly after likely previous trauma? That would be horrible for Baby.
And re: The Jedi + attachments Ahsoka (and Filoni) are wrong on that. The Jedi do not forbid attachments, only letting your attachments rule you. Ki-Adi-Mundi is married and so were others, and there are plenty of Padawan-Master relationships to see - for example, Obi-Wan was attached to Qui-Gon and clearly loved him and was devastated by his loss, but it’s only when he conquers his emotions and calms himself is he able to defeat Maul, and afterward is implied/shown to mourn Qui-Gon and handle his grief in a healthy way. Anakin doesn’t fall because he’s attached to his loved ones. He falls because he’s willing to commit murder and genocide over his attachments. So “I can’t teach Grogu because he’s attached to you” is bullshit. “I can’t teach Grogu because he is attached to you and needs to be safely transitioned into Jedi life in an environment that is comfortable and safe for him, with your help as his adoptive father, and I have no way to do that here and/or don’t feel comfortable doing that” is much more accurate. (This is probably what would’ve happened if the Order was still around, anyway, and/or how he was actually taken in - the 3D TCW episode with the Jedi children shows the bounty hunters tricking the parents to kidnap the kids, implying that a real Jedi would work with the family to transition the children in a safe and healthy manner. The Rodian even says the Jedi have already spoken to her iirc.)
Of course even if Grogu is unhealthily attached to Din (which he isn’t, imo, he behaves like a child at a normal level of attachment to a regular caretaker he loves) then ignoring it and not doing anything about it is equally bad.... as we’ve already seen when he got upset with Cara last season. Baby must learn to control his powers so he doesn’t hurt himself or others, especially since he’s so young he doesn’t always have full control over his own emotions. “Big” emotions can be a lot for a kid; a screaming meltdown is bad enough when the kid can’t yeet you with their mind. I’ve been hit, kicked, bitten, scratched, had toys thrown at me, even been hit with heavy wooden blocks. A Grogu out of control with his emotions and using the Force? Terrifying. Yes, his attachment to Din makes him more vulnerable to his fears and anger - we’ve seen him choke Cara and while he only held back the mudhorn, in theory he could’ve done more. But that is just all the more reason to teach him control. Ignore harmful behavior and it will only get worse, and Din isn’t really equipped to help him navigate that since Din doesn’t understand the Force and can’t understand what Grogu says.
(Also lol at “He doesn’t understand” “He does.” You can 100% tell when kids understand you perfectly and are refusing to do it, even when a parent is making excuses for their darling. xD Especially since kids will frequently act/react differently to their parents versus other caretakers.)
“He’s hidden his abilities to survive over the years” I call partial bullshit on that. No, I don’t think Baby has done any long-term planning or had thoughts along the lines of “I’m being hunted and need to protect myself by pretending not to be a Force-user.” But I think he has probably figured out people react a certain way when he does Force things and perhaps decided “I shouldn’t make things float because then people will grab me/I will get taken away/other consequence I don’t like will happen.” That’s more in line with a toddler’s level of thinking/comprehension. And it adds greater weight to him saving Din from the mudhorn - he didn’t know how Din would react to him using the Force, if Din would try and hurt him or lock him in the pod or whatever, but he still wanted to save Din. Overall though I think Baby’s Force-use is in line with a toddler’s thoughts. “I want X to happen, I can make that happen with the Force, so I will make X happen unless I’m more scared of [consequence] happening.”
So overall a pretty revealing episode for Baby/Grogu. (I’m not used to the new name yet tbh.) Although I’m worried about how many times it will take Din hearing it to realize that yes, you are this baby’s father, get that through your beskar-plated skull.

On Buns and Ovens (12/?)
[Part 1] [Part 11]
[Read on AO3]
They swung into action. Jesse utilised some of his more dubious talents to reprogram Fives’ ID chip to broadcast Echo’s original CT number of 21-0408, but Fives refused to take his dead brother’s name too (and rightly so, everyone agreed. Numbers were one thing, but a name was everything). That, he took inspiration for from Waxer.
“What was that word Numa used?” he asked, tracing the image of the little Twi’lek girl on their fallen brother’s bucket. “Dammit, Echo would have known.”
“Nerra,” Boil said, his eyes soft. “Means vod in Ryl.”
Kix was impressed: three languages in the space of five words.
Fives was nodding thoughtfully. “That’s it. At least if I can’t be me, I can still be a brother.”
“Nerra it is,” Jesse said, finishing off his highly illegal modification of the service records.
(They had opted to return to the barracks for that – that way, Kenobi could at least claim that he didn’t know exactly what they were doing. There was no way they were implicating their jetii for everything, and this was something they could save him from.)
“Now the only thing is this,” Fives – Nerra – said with a sigh, touching his tattoo. “Don’t suppose you’ve got a slice to erase… no, Kix!”
Kix just raised his eyebrows. “What? I didn’t say anything.”
“You didn’t need to,” Fives grumbled as their vod’e grinned and Ahsoka snickered. “You spend far too much time with us to have not thought it.”
“So I’ll keep surgical intervention on the back burner then,” he responded, his face the picture of innocence.
“There are other ways,” Ahsoka suggested. “I’m pretty sure that Alyx probably has something in xir locker that would help.”
Kix wasn’t alone in his confusion: only Odd Ball, Alyx’s squadmate, seemed to understand Ahsoka’s reference to the 212th’s sister.
(Alyx identified xirself as female not long after xe realised that transgenderism was a thing, but preferred to use a gender-neutral pronoun. For now, at least.)
“I’m pretty sure that we could at least get a decent colour match based on what Alyx uses, even if it’s not exact.”
Ahsoka sighed at the blank faces surrounding her. “Men, honestly. Fives, you could use a bit of concealer to cover your tattoo until it’s safe for to be you again. It’s a cosmetic designed to cover up small patches of skin that’s discoloured for whatever reason.” She grinned mischievously and added: “Or for sometimes making white bits orange and orange bits white.”
The younger among the vod’e looked horrified. Rex and Fives seemed to understand, and Kix had to admit that he could see this one both ways.
“But… why?” Wooley asked. “You… you’re already unique.”
“Being unique isn’t always a good thing,” Rex said, rubbing at the golden stubble on his scalp. “Being unique was hard for me: I could never hide in the crowd, I was always the one picked on in training, pushed harder than anyone else because I was the obvious target. Ahsoka’s face has been on every news feed in the Republic: she can’t hide either.”
Kix had been there too, and knew it was true. Any vod who stood out ended up being pushed harder, because the Kaminoans saw them as flaws in the product, and they had to prove that whatever genetic aberrations they had didn’t detract from their overall quality. Kix had been slow to hit puberty, and another vod in his squad had been not only brunet but left handed too. They had also struggled, and Kix would have loved to be able to just be another face in the squad, once upon a time. Now the idea left him cold.
Ahsoka nodded in agreement with Rex. “It’s nice to not have to be me sometimes – just to go out and not be recognised.”
Fives snorted. “I get that. Even if I hate having to do all this, I get the desire to pass under the sensor grid.”
Jesse snorted. “Yeah, that makes sense. Even if the civvies can’t tell us apart, there’s no hiding what we are. Not here, at least. It’d be nice just to be able to walk down the street, take in the sights, and not be recognised.”
“Concealer?” Fives said to Ahsoka, bringing the conversation back to the pertinent point.
She nodded. “It’s pretty easy to pick up in stores, but getting the right colour can be tricky. That’s why I thought about Alyx: xir skin is going to be almost exactly the same shade as yours, give or take a bit of exposure to sunlight.”
“I’ll ask xir,” Odd Ball said. “Xe knows how to be discrete.”
“And if it doesn’t work for you, vod, there are always…”
Fives glared at Kix and he shut up. But then his brother seemed to slump in resignation.
“Last option,” he said softly. “Only if we absolutely have to.”
Kix nodded sympathetically. He knew he had felt the same way about losing his lightning bolts, and his hair would grow back soon enough – what Kix would need to do to Fives would be fairly permanent (although he would do his utmost to leave the skin intact enough that the artwork could be replaced in due course).
.oOo.
With Fives still on the loose, the 501st were grounded. Apparently, the Council felt that their presence would be of benefit to the manhunt. Ahsoka sardonically pointed out that they probably actually thought it would be far too easy for Fives to stow away offworld with the 501st.
That caused some amusement when Jesse fed it back to their friends, and some not inconsiderable relief.
“At least they’re not looking at us,” Boil said, slinging his arm around his newest sergeant. “We dodged that particular bolt.”
“We haven’t been given our next orders yet, either,” Cody pointed out. “Just because suspicion is mainly elsewhere doesn’t mean we’re out of the picture altogether.”
“All the more reason to move as fast as we can,” Rex said by way of agreement.
“And, of course, I’ll need a medic who won’t question why Sergeant Nerra has a five tattooed on his temple,” Cody said thoughtfully. “Just in case he gets himself injured.”
Kix rolled his eyes. Cody was dropping more and more hints that he wanted Ryll back with the 212th, and this particular one had a certain degree of logic to it. However…
“I said before, prove you can take care of a medic,” he growled. “You keep getting them killed.”
“Stick him with Boil,” Wooley suggested gleefully. “The droids are too scared of him to aim anywhere near.”
“Kix,” Cody said seriously, ignoring Wooley (mostly, anyway), “if you can tell me why I keep losing my medics, maybe I can do something about it. If it’s just a case of ‘I need a one who can take care of himself in the field’, well, I’m asking for one.”
Kix had absolutely no argument for that. It looked like he had as until the 212th got their marching orders to cram as much useful knowledge into Ryll’s head as possible.
Damn, he was going to miss that kid.
.oOo.
Odd Ball really came through with a plot to fake Fives’ escape from Coruscant. His quirky astromech had been badly damaged in their last battle – not so bad that it wasn’t salvageable, or functional, but enough that repair was going to be a long, costly process – and he and Alyx managed to talk it into acting as the ‘pilot’ for one last mission instead. They installed it into a standard shuttle and it was Jesse who, in blank armour, ‘sneaked’ onto the purloined vessel and took off.
In a move inspired by Fives’ faked escape from Kamino, Jesse jumped ship over 500 Republica, aiming for a secluded balcony away from any camera droids, with the idea that he would be brought to a safe landing by Ahsoka while R5 and the shuttle disappeared off into the atmosphere and, if all went according to plan, jumped to hyperspace before anyone could shoot it down.
(Although if it didn't go to plan, it would make things a bit more difficult, from the point of view of forensic evidence, but they could probably work it out anyway and then Fives would be considered ‘dead’ rather than ‘missing’.)
Kix watched Jesse’s leap with his heart in his mouth. He knew Ahsoka was capable – he knew it – but it was normally Skywalker who was responsible for catching a falling body. Normally Rex’s falling body. And Ahsoka seemed a little twitchy, although she was hiding it well.
Maybe she was just nervous about being responsible for Jesse’s wellbeing. Or maybe he was just seeing things that weren’t there.
Beside him, Senator Amidala sighed.
“Somehow I am not surprised that not only can Ahsoka do this, but that you apparently see this as something normal.” Her tone was dry.
“We trained to be ready for anything our jetiise could throw at us,” he responded, not able to tear his eyes from the shape hurtling towards them in freefall, “but I never thought they would be throwing and catching us.”
He could feel her eyes on him. “I take it this isn’t your cup of tea then?”
He shook his head vehemently. “Makes me glad I don’t spend all that much time right on the front lines. Jesse…”
He swallowed, his eyes still on his riduur as his fall finally slowed. The senator’s hand curled around his, squeezing gently, reassuringly. Assured that Jesse was safe, he glanced down and saw that Amidala’s eyes were filled with understanding that was probably hard-won.
Jesse, oblivious, landed gracefully on his feet and removed the foreign, blank bucket, laughing.
“He won’t understand,” Amidala said softly, her eyes now on the balcony. “You just have to hope he’ll carry on coming home to you.”
“Thanks, Commander,” Jesse said all too cheerfully to Ahsoka at the end of the balcony, his voice drifting over to them. “That was awesome.”
Kix squeezed Amidala’s hand back. “I always do. And it’s not like either of us is helpless either. Or safe.”
She chuckled, somewhat weakly. “You’re right, of course. And we’re less safe by the day, particularly since we are up to our necks in this conspiracy.”
Ahsoka and Jesse made their way into the apartment, grinning broadly. Jesse’s arm was slung over Ahsoka’s shoulders in a manner that looked careless, but was actually carefully avoiding putting pressure on her growing central lek.
“So far, so good,” Ahsoka said. “As long as R5 does its job, we’ll all be okay.”

Three loud knocks on the door to your quarters startled you awake. That is, it would have startled you awake if you were able to fall asleep in the first place. It was pretty common for you to struggle with sleeping, but some nights were better than others. Tonight was not one of those nights. Although you didn’t want to admit it, you were relieved for the sudden knock at your door because you knew exactly who was behind it.
Not caring that you were only in an over sized t-shirt that stretched past mid thigh and covered your underwear, you made your way to the door as quickly as you could without stumbling in the dark. Once you opened it, you were greeted by a familiar sight, Anakin, his face red and his eyes puffy, both from crying and from sleep deprivation. Tear tracks stained his face that you could see glistening in the moonlight. Without hesitation, you wrapped your arms around him tightly. Anakin immediately returned the display of affection, his body trembling.
“It’s okay, it’s okay now. I’m here. I’ve got you.” You pulled away, rubbing your hands up and down his sides in a comforting motion. He didn’t even need to ask to come in. This exact event had happened so many times that the second you took his hand in your own, he just followed you inside.
You and Anakin had been friends since you were both very young, just children training as padawans. You grew up together, and as the years passed, you became inseparable. You had always been very close, but as you both became adults, you began to do things that some (especially the council) would consider odd for “just friends” to be doing. One of these things was Anakin’s late night visits. He always struggled with nightmares ever since he was a little boy. As his best friend, of course you knew this. But as he got older, instead of going away, they got worse. More gruesome. So, to combat his sleeplessness and fear, he would stop by your quarters so that you could hold him and comfort him, and he would fall asleep peacefully in your bed.
Still holding his hand, you guided him to your bed through the darkness, pulling back the covers and sitting down. You slid over, leaving a spot for him to curl up next to you. He eagerly took the opportunity, sliding into bed and into your open arms. You were safe, shelter from the storm that was his constant nightmares. Even in his own bed, he never felt at home, not until he was in yours.
Anakin knew what this meant, he wasn’t stupid. But he was also in denial. He was trying to deny it, at least. However, tonight was different. Anakin had a dream about losing you tonight. He was used to having these types of dreams, where you would die and he would stand by helpless. But tonight, it was him who killed you. He was especially shaken up about this one, and immediately rushed to your aid.
Now, here he was, nuzzling into your neck and holding you against him. More like crushing you, afraid that if he didn’t, you would disappear and leave him. You would be lying if you said that Anakin wasn’t your only safe place too, so it was actually comforting feeling him crush you in his arms. You moved one of your hands free, tangling it in his hair and massaging his scalp gently. Anakin had a thing for you playing with his hair, it always managed to soothe him. Occasionally it would cause a very specific problem, one that Anakin would have to take care of himself in the morning. You pretended not to notice for his sake, but you noticed every time. It didn’t necessarily bother you, in fact, it caused a very specific problem of your own. But you were also in a similar state of wanting to deny any “more than just friends” feelings that you had.
Tonight though, Anakin was tired of denying. He was feeling extremely bold. So, brought his head back from the crook of your neck, now face to face with you. You gave him a puzzled look. Usually in these scenarios, he would just pass out in your arms and sleep like a baby after some “friendly” cuddling.
It was now his turn to lace his fingers through your hair, combing through the strands gently. Even in the dark room, only dimly lit by the moon from outside your window, your eyes shown. He moved his other hand that had been gripping your waist to your cheek, brushing the soft skin with his thumb. “You’re so beautiful...” He murmured, almost in awe. As if he had known it all this time, but this was the first time that he was truly admitting it to himself.
“Anakin...” You didn’t know what else to say. You waited for him to do something, to make a move while he brought his face closer to yours. Tentatively, he pressed a gentle kiss to your forehead. Your mouth hung agape, completely at a loss for words. You felt like you had been waiting for this for an eternity, but now that it was happening, you were stunned. He pulled away, leaving the ball in your court. He was waiting for you to give him some sort of sign that it was okay for him to continue. You knew that he was waiting for your permission, but you didn’t know what to say. You wanted everything from him, his lips, his hands, his cock, you just didn’t know how to form the right words to ask him for it. Panicking, you blurted out the only thing that you knew for certain, the only thing that felt right. “I love you!” It was true, you did love him more than anything in the galaxy, and finally being able to admit it to both him and yourself was a feeling of relief unparalleled. He understood what you meant, immediately knew what you wanted. He always knew.
His lips crashed against yours, his hand gripping your hair and pulling you towards him with such ferocity that you were left breathless. He growled against your mouth before pulling away to kiss his way down your neck. “I love you. I love you. So much.” He kissed the words into your skin, and you couldn’t help but moan as he decided to leave deep purple marks on your neck. You could have scolded him, pushed him off so that he wouldn’t leave obvious marks that everyone would be able to notice, but you didn’t care. You wanted him to mark you up. You wanted to belong to him.
He moved you like a ragdoll, rolling you over so that you were on your back and he could tower above you. His hands traveled up and down your sides, your shirt riding up and exposing your bare thighs to him. “Is this alright, love?” He knew that this was what you wanted, but he needed to ask your permission before he took this any further.
Enthusiastically, you nodded. “More than alright.” Your voice was breathy and eager.
Anakin hummed a response deep in his throat that made you shiver. “That’s my good girl.”
You knew thay you were in for it now. You had seen this dominant persona in Anakin before, whether he was placing his hand on the small of your back in a public setting or rushing in to “save you” from a group of droids, even though you totally had it covered. In general, Anakin Skywalker was just a very protective and dominant person. This however, was on another level, a level that you were pleasantly surprised and extremely turned on by.
Anakin grabbed the hem of your shirt, letting you lean forward so that he could tug it off of you. “My good girl.” His tone was so deep and dominant that it sent chills through your body. Anakin noticed, chuckling. “Awww, baby...I haven’t even touched you yet and you’re already trembling for me.” A smirk tugged at his lips and he ran his hands over your now bare chest. He reached your breasts, pinching each nipple between his fingers. You mewled, your sensitive nipples sending shockwaves of pleasure through your body.
It was here that you realized how overdressed Anakin was. Impatient, you reached towards him, making a grabby hands motion until you could stretch far enough to claw at his clothes. “Alright, baby. I know.” His hands left your body, making you whine. “Be patient, baby.” Slowly, to make sure that he was teasing you, he undressed himself. Every time you reached out to touch him, he smacked your hand away and told you to wait.
“Anakin...” You groaned, staring at his bulge with wide eyes. You could have sworn you were drooling.
“You want it that bad, huh baby?” He traced his fingers over the outline of his bulge, letting out a shaky breath at the feeling of finally getting some friction.
“Please Ani...” You moaned as you spoke, dreaming about being able to hold his cock, to make him feel good, to feel him inside of you.
Anakin chuckled, slowly pulling down his boxers and letting his erection spring free. If you weren’t drooling before, you sure as hell were now. All of a sudden, the thought of having him burried in your cunt left your mind. You wanted him in your mouth. You wanted to feel the weight of him on your tongue. You wanted to make him feel good after everything he’d already been through tonight.
Anakin noticed you staring, but he didn’t mind. He thought it was adorable. “Darling, you’re gonna have to tell me what you want.” Anakin’s erection bobbed as he moved to crawl back on top of you.
You cleared your throat, desperate but still anxious to tell him what you wanted. Trying to speak, you opened your mouth but no words came out, leading to you just staring at his cock with your mouth agape. Anakin lips formed a soft smile, the kind he gave whenever he wanted to reassure you that everything would turn out alright, and that he was here for you. Anakin’s smiles always seemed to have that affect on you, whether it was intended or not. “It’s alright, baby. You know that I’ll give you whatever you need.” His hand moved over to your face, brushing the hair out of your eyes gently.
Finally, feeling reassured and a little more confident, you stuttered out a response. “I w-want...to make you feel good. I want your cock in my mouth. Let me taste you Ani, please.”
Anakin smirked, surprised at first by your filthy mouth, but still definitely very pleased. “Of course, baby.” Anakin cooed, rolling you both over so that you were now straddling him. Slowly, you slid you way down his body, your hands tracing over his toned chest until they rested on his thighs. Your tongue darted over your lips, already almost moaning at the thought of having his cock resting on your tongue.
Tentatively, you took his cock in your hand, realizing how huge he was in comparison. Your thumb swiped over the head, gathering the precum onto your finger and bringing your hand back down to the base. Anakin immediately groaned at the contact, his fists tangling in the sheets impatiently. Now you realized how much power you had over this situation. Smirking, you ran your tongue up his entire length, never breaking eye contact with him.
“Don’t tease me, baby girl. I don’t think you’ll like the consequences.” Anakin growled, warning you. You giggled at the prospect of that, fantasizing what he might to do you. Now, you were feeling bold. Ready to test the boundaries a little bit.
“Is that a promise, master?” You giggled, eager to see how far you could push him.
Anakin’s hand immediately reached down to tangle in your hair forcefully. “Keep it up kitten, and I’ll be sure to fuck that smart mouth of yours.” Fuck, you felt your pussy clench and you moaned at his words. “You like that, huh baby? You like being my little kitten?” Anakin’s voice was low in his throat and so damn dominant that you couldn’t help but whine. He chuckled, nodding at the confirmation to his own theory. “You do...you love being master’s little kitten.” He paused, giving your hair a sharp tug. “But if you want to be master’s good kitten, you’re going to have to suck me off, alright baby?”
You nodded, giving a little “Mhm!” in affirmation. Already, you were wrapping your lips around the head of his cock. Anakin moaned immediately at the feeling of your warm mouth.
“That’s it...good girl, just like that.” He kept his hand in your hair, helping you ease down onto his length until you couldn’t take anymore, your hands wrapping around the rest. “Good kitten. That’s perfect, you’re doing so good for me.” Anakin groaned as you eased yourself up and down his length. You gagged a little when he hit the back of your throat, but you quickly got used to his size.
Anakin guided you through it, his hands stroking your hair and giving you praise along the way. “Perfect...suck a little, kitten. Just like that, ugh yes, that’s it.” He was quickly losing control, thrusting his hips up so that you could take him deeper. The moans that were filling the room were heavenly, you couldn’t imagine anything hotter if you tried. You were dripping now, most likely soaking through your underwear. You moaned around his length, sending vibrations that caused him to release an almost feral growl.
Anakin was almost fucking your throat at this point, and you dug your nails into his thighs to ground yourself. “Ugh, fuck! Look at me, kitten.” Your eyes, previously closed, snapped up to his. A single tear slid down your cheek, most likely due to you surpressing the urge to gag around him. “You’re gorgeous, kitten. Such a beautiful baby. How did I get so lucky...fuck.” His eyes shone a deep blue that flickered in the moonlight, and his mouth hung agape while he groaned in pleasure and praised you. “Keep going darling, I...” He trailed off, but he didn’t even need to finish his sentence, you knew what he was going to say.
Shakily, Anakin pulled you off of his length by your hair, using his free hand to stroke himself. He was babbling a string of praises while your mouth hung open, waiting for his release to land on your tongue. “So perfect baby, you’re so perfect, I love you so much...fuck!” Strands of hot cum landed on your tongue and around your mouth, and you moaned as a pang of arousal shot through you. As his cum filled your mouth, you realized just how badly you were craving to be touched.
You closed your mouth, savoring the taste of something so entirely him. Swallowing, your eyes trailed over his heaving chest to meet his. Anakin moaned, feeling another tinky spike of post orgasm pleasure as he saw you swallowing his seed. His hand stroked through your hair gently, comforting you. “That was perfect, kitten. You’re so good to me.” You smiled, basking in the praise, but wiggled your hips impatiently as you were now craving some kind of release.
“Well, what are you waiting for? Come up here, baby. It’s your turn.”

People often talk about Anakins failings as a Jedi, so how about somethings he was better than them at. Was there ever things (non-Jedi things) that people appreciated him for? Did his loyalty and emotion ever help someone, or make them feel better? Just, some ways in which Anakin being a bad Jedi, ended up making things better.
You asked me there’s any non-jedi trait Anakin excelled at I’d argue Anakin excelled at the most Jedi trait of all: compassion. Unlike the great Jedi masters of his time, who talked a big game about compassion, Anakin actually cared about the people he met and tried his best to connect and help them. But I’m not going to say much about this, I’ll just show you the receipts.
When Anakin and Obi-wan find a captive woman who has been physically abuse, this is what happens:
He was polite:
Anakin was looking relieved. “Water would be greatly appreciated, thank you. Food, too, but I’ll wait for Obi-Wan to come back before I eat.” She crossed to the small kitchen table, put down the precious holoprojector, then nodded at the commercial-sized conservator her keepers had so kindly given her. “It’s entirely up to you. The water’s in there. Help yourself to as much as you like.” He drank three full bottles, hardly taking a breath. Noticing her surprise, he shrugged. “Sorry. My manners aren’t usually that bad. It’s just—it’s been a long, hard day.” “I can tell,” she said, disposing of the emptied bottles down her makeshift kitchen’s waste chute. “You should sit down. If you don’t mind me saying so, you look tired.” He considered his filthy clothes. “Are you sure? I don’t want to dirty the furniture.” [Karen Miller. Star Wars: Clone Wars Gambit: Stealth]
He was supportive and unfailingly kind:
“Oh. That’s right.” There was still dried blood on her fingers, and a dull, throbbing pain in her head. “I’m sorry. I’m not normally this stupid. I just—” And then she felt her face crumple and heard herself sob. Her knees buckled and she began to sink toward the floor. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” she choked. “Don’t mind me. I’m fine.”
He caught her before she tumbled completely. Lifted her without effort and carried her to the sofa. Boneless and unprotesting, she let him. Let her face turn to his roughly shirted, dirty chest and howled her rage and shame against him. Dimly, she felt his hand warm and comforting on her back and heard his soft voice saying, over and over, “It’s all right. It’s all right. You’re safe now. It’s all right.” The crazy thing was that she did feel safe. For the first time since those Separatist blaster bolts seared the air and sand of Niriktavi Bay, since she saw her friends and colleagues slaughtered, she felt safe. [Karen Miller. Star Wars: Clone Wars Gambit: Stealth]
He helped her with her wounds:
“Don’t apologize,” [Anakin] said gently. “You’ve got a right to be upset. Now, where’s that medkit?”
“In the refresher.” She pointed. “Through there. Top shelf above the sink. But please, don’t bother. It’s nothing. I can—”
Standing, he frowned down at her. “It’s not nothing. Don’t go anywhere. I’ll be right back.” Even if she’d wanted to, she didn’t think she could move. Hope had vanished, leaving despair in its wake. Leaving her empty of everything save pain. Her eyes felt scrubbed raw. “Right,” said Anakin, returning with the medkit. “Here we go. And I’ll say sorry in advance, because I’m probably going to hurt you.”
Again, that extraordinary sense of being small, a child, as he carefully wiped the blood and tears from her face, cleaned the bruised, throbbing cut on her forehead with antiseptic, and lightly pressed a steriseal over it. “You’re very good at this,” she murmured. He was gentle:
Taking them, she looked up at him and shook her head, even though it still ached. “It’s odd. You’re nothing like I expected.”
“Why?” he said, perching on the edge of the nearby chair. “What did you expect?”
“I don’t know,” she said, floundering. “I can’t say I’ve ever given the Jedi much thought. I mean, not as individuals. I never expected to meet one—let alone two. I don’t tend to go places where your skills are needed. But—well—you’re gentle.” That made him smile. [Karen Miller. Star Wars: Clone Wars Gambit: Stealth]
She sat down again. “I understand. This is war. You have to look at the big picture. You can’t afford to see the little people.” Scurrying like rodents. Sacrificed for the greater good.
“That’s not true!” Anakin protested. “That’s what the big picture is. Lots and lots and lots of little people. You matter, Bant’ena. The friends you lost on Taratos Four, they matter. We’re fighting this war so no more like them will die.”
He was very sweet. Very young. Full of grand ideals and breathtaking, intuitive compassion. She looked at Master Kenobi. Now, there was a pragmatist, a man possessed of a scientist’s soul. [Karen Miller. Star Wars: Clone Wars Gambit: Stealth]
When Anakin runs into a planet where the population has been enslaved:
As for the native Lanteebans, they were easy to pick out. Hunched and nervous, skittishly aware of their armed supervisors, they were the ones lasering and sweeping and riveting and hammering and sweating to upgrade the spaceport to their new masters’ specifications. They wore nothing but overalls and sandals. No protective eye goggles. No steel-capped boots. No sensor-harnesses to protect them from a fall. The indifference to their safety was breathtaking … and at the same time, unsurprising. Their fearful misery muddied the atmosphere. Beside him, Anakin muttered something. Not in Basic. His outrage was palpable, a red shimmer in the Force. Oh no. Not now.
“Anakin …”
“Look at them!” Anakin retorted, low-voiced. “They’ve been turned into slaves!”
“I know. It’s irrelevant. Focus on why we’re here.” [Karen Miller. Star Wars: Clone Wars Gambit: Stealth]
He was generous even with his dreams:
When the war was over he’d go back to Tatooine and see. When the war was over he’d buy any child he found enslaved to Watto and find them a home where they might live and love in safety. Belonging to no one but themselves. [Karen Miller. Star Wars: Clone Wars Gambit: Stealth]
When Anakin runs into a group of poor kids playing in the street:
“Just like Mos Espa’s slave quarter,” Anakin said under his breath. “Everybody knows everybody else and nothing much stays secret.” Obi-Wan nudged him with an elbow. Not now. They’d accumulated a gaggle of children, who seemingly had nothing better to do than tag along in the newcomers’ wake, giggling and whispering and kicking a soggily inflated synthafibe ball.
[…]Grinning, without bothering to ask if he might, or if it were wise, or if they had the time to spare, so independent these days, Anakin jogged to join them. After a moment’s amazed hesitation the children welcomed him with squeals of delight, rough-and-tumbled him into their midst and made him one of their own.
Obi-Wan shook his head. “He’s nice,” said the girl with the bracelet and the ragged hair, wandering over to stand beside him. “Don’t be cross with him, Teeb Yavid.”
[…]“But—” Gathering his thoughts, disciplining himself, he watched Anakin scoop up one small excited boy, too young to kick the ball, and zoom him overhead like a fighter chasing a vulture droid. The boy nearly sickened himself with laughing. “Greti, are you saying—”
[…]“So that was merely a cynical exercise in the manipulation of a local populace?”
“Oh, no,” said Anakin, grinning. “It was fun too.”
May the Force give me strength. “And that business with the boy? Because when I said no heavy lifting I—”
Anakin’s amusement vanished. “He wasn’t heavy. These younglings are skin and bone. I look at them and—” He clenched his jaw. [Karen Miller. Star Wars: Clone Wars Gambit: Siege]
And this is just a few examples from ONE book series. The EU (TCW and the movies) are filled with moments of Anakin caring deeply for people he barely knows (TPM, anyone?) as the Jedi stand back and chastise him for caring too much. It’s so unfair that people forget that Anakin wasn’t always cruel and selfish. They forget that for a long time Anakin was of the few Jedi who actually acted on the compassion all Jedi were supposed to possess.
Anakin Skywalker didn’t become a heroic figure during the war only because he was a good fighter. He was a good person too. A person who cared about people as individuals. And the sad part is that people forget this compassion and caring attitude wasn’t learn from the Jedi, it was learned from Shmi Skywalker. A person that also acted on her words about being kind and generous:
“Helping others isn’t always easy, is it? If people paid us to be good, the galaxy would be overflowing with kindness. But most of the time there isn’t much reward, and sometimes it even costs us dearly to do good things. Yeah. What if it costs so much that it hurts? I think we should do it anyway. Make it a habit, like eating or breathing. Once you do, you’ll hardly even notice the cost.” Star Wars Episode I Adventures: The Ghostling Children by Dave Wolverton
Anakin and Shmi’s generosity, kindness and compassion was real and truly heroic and, imo, it’s the most important trait a Jedi should possess. Ahat’s why I think Anakin had everything he needed to be a great Jedi. He had everything else too: kindness, compassion, fighting skills, etc. the only ‘trait’ he lacked was the acceptance and support of his superiors.
