Wait
Jesse found Joel, Ellie, and Dina
He had to wrap joel
Get dina stable enough on a horse
And drag Ellie onto his horse and away from joel
My night is ruined
No
My week is ruined
No one speak to me
NO ONE

Sooo sweeeet! Protective comforting Jesse would fix me.
Imagine being comforted by Jesse ...
Tumblr media
You're watching a scary movie. Or maybe it's just a particularly sad scene. And it's just too much. You pull the blankets over your head.
But an arm quickly wraps around you as you hear the film pause.
He'd pull you in to him. He's so thick, you'd be burrowed into his chest faster than you can blink.
His hand would cup the back of your head as his fingers gently stroked your hair.
He'd whisper the usual platitudes - "Shh, I got you, sweetheart," things like that. But if none of them work, he'd drop this:
"You're safe, baby. As long as I'm here, you're safe."
He does this whenever you get overwhelmed. Until "I'm here" becomes code for "you're safe."
It's the way he says it, like it takes no effort for the air to fill his lungs and push the words out. It makes you believe him. No hesitation. No thought.
The first time he leaves after this dynamic, he hides his few possessions around your place. His spare blacks ended up in your pajama drawer -- the extra patrol duty he had to do for "misplacing" them was worth it to know that even when he's away, you'll still be able to feel him. You'll still be able to feel safe.

okay here are some of my, spoiler included, thoughts. these are in no particular order and I have so many more thoughts and am happy to chat more, whether you agree or not!
I didn't cry until we see jesse physically holding ellie upright on the horse. the last shot of them dragging joel's corpse broke me. for some reason, I was expecting that we'd see him draped over the back of a horse (by my count there should have been two more horses so it could have happened), so to have him wrapped up, tied up, clearly as a corpse and not viewable as joel anymore really broke me.
and the use of audio? ellie's screams, the quiet, and then hearing ashley johnson's voice? wow wow wow.
the fact that ellie not only watched but we can see him lift his head just enough, that he knows she's there. I read last night that neil or craig (i don't remember which) confirmed this, and said that in that moment ellie is badly hurt and doesn't know if she'll live so she also crawled over to joel thinking that she might die with him and wanting to be with him in that last moment
as a game fan, I agree with the above -- I cried so much less than I expected. but it felt truly haunting. like I keep describing it that way but I don't know any other way. like I feel it in my chest.
this is a very random small thing but I wonder why it's been Jackson this whole time and suddenly it's Jackson Hole all episode
for me, the anticipation all episode was killer. I know they have to kill him because that's the catalyst for the entirety of part ii but damn i could not stop thinking 'please let him live'.
I also kind of like the mentions of joel being handsome. I think that it's not unrealistic or uncommon for people to describe even perpetrators of violence that way, and I think that if someone had been pressed to describe him and that's what they came up with, it would piss abby off to no end and she wouldn't be able to stop herself from bringing it up in disgust. that felt real to me
I found nora interesting because I felt like while she was ultimately more on abby's side than mel/owen, I think you do see her hesitate, and she's not as all in as manny is. which I found interesting
the entire jackson scene was so good and heartbreaking. I loved getting to see Tommy and Maria jump into action, and you get some great world building info with how they've prepared
I think that if we have to see the notification, a lot of it will fall to Jesse. Dina's still out, Ellie's so hurt physically and in shock, and while he wasn't there, he's clearly at the moment the most capable of the three. plus we know they've mentioned priming him for leadership so I think he'll feel like he has to step in
on the one hand I hope we don't have to see tommy find out because it would hurt so bad, but I also think it would be a big jump not to
my boyfriend can't watch until later today so I have a full page of notes to discuss with him later lol
one of my best friends hasn't played the game and he described the episode as shocking, making him queasy, and said that he hates abby, cannot find sympathy. i want to clarify that he's a very normal, kind man who is very empathetic and sympathetic and also very capable of separating his feelings for this character in the story from the actress so please don't think i'm encouraging hatred towards the cast or anything!
similar to the op, I also thought about the detail of ellie going up to find joel instead of down. i think realistically it was done to allow them to be in a room overlooking jackson so they could see the evidence of fighting, and I think it probably broke them to have to make that choice to go in the lodge (to warm up/to check on joel) instead of going down to jackson to fight. joel dying knowing he can't be there for them, for tommy, had to hurt even more
idk how i feel about abby's whole monologue. i really just don't know.
I have many many more thoughts and as always am more than happy to chat about them - whether you agree or not
tlou hbo season 2: episode 2 thoughts
here we are again! tldr i liked this much better than episode 1, though i have beef, per usual. i did not cry (think i shed all my tears ages ago) but whatever. reminder i am a game fan first and foremost, and thoughts are sorted into good/iffy/bad, please weigh in with your own thoughts!
spoilers for tlou hbo and tlou part ii below.
GOOD (so crazy but there is a lot i liked) -FOB mention from the wlf! made me hype as fuck for seattle -i thought the WLF dynamic was interesting -- even though a number of years have passed (and we are uncertain of the interpersonal relationships, i think owen x mel is hinted but not explicit) we are clearly given the lay of the land when it comes to this whole thing being kind of nuts. no one knows what abby's plan is, owen is mitigating, and when it comes down to it abby/manny/nora are on one side and mel/owen are not sure. (omission of jordan/leah is probably smart here to tighten things up) -jesse! once again my shining star. i think he got the humor/teasing with ellie pretty correct given that we know he's older than her, and he's her friend. i laughed when he said kinda fucked you did that though -i really enjoyed seeing tommy as a town leader. i think gabriel really excelled here and i think it was a rare flush out for a supporting character. he has presence, he has respect, he has confidence, i loved it! -abby's attitude pre-joel: i think the way they had her on watch but then the way she engages with the patrol made lots of sense -- she sees them and decides to follow them. she is self-assured to a fault which fit really well -- she falls down the snowbank after thinking she can do it, she runs from the infected but does not give up even when she seems to be trapped, she adjusts quickly when she realizes who has saved her. good stuff! -bong mask was funny icl -the infected going for jackson. this is a love cause i thought it was compelling but possibly only because it reminded me of my favorite episode of game of thrones -- the long night. i liked how tight the narrative was -- they have expected and prepared for this. the ramps, the barrels, the stages of artillery. i think the sense of tenison was compelling and worked well cause you forgot what was happening outside the walls when you were in there. tommy's skills as a tactician were great, tommy and the flamethrower rocked and the bloater rocked, i was so stressed and whispering go tommy go tommy go tommy. i have some questions but its fine (are all infected smart? why did they go to jackson? why are there so many runners if they are the first stage of infection). i also loved the aftermath -- the guy who was bit asking to be shot, etc. really compelling. -the sense of terror whenever we went back to joel/dina and the lodge....well-honed! -just shut the fuck up and do it already. probably the only line from hbo!joel that made me gasp in a good way -ellie getting to be conscious for joel's death and the aftermath -- a unique form of torture. i was really impressed that she pulled out the iron. something really moving about that. -the sudden intro of through the valley sung by ashley.....WOW. did NOT expect that. a really nice surprise. -the long shot of jesse, ellie, and dina...and joel's wrapped corpse dragged behind them. something i always wished we had a glimpse of in the game.
IFFY -Abby talking to herself in the flashback instead of experiencing it like it’s a dream. i think this could be valuable if she has this dream more than once as her story evolves (probs a s3 thing). opening with it was a strong choice but i don't know if making us wonder if she actually experienced it or not was a good one. -i think that they are hinting heavily that the end of e1 was a fake out and ellie went to the porch after all. Ellie addresses head-on that she and Joel still have a bond that isn’t understandable from the outside . it was an unexpected moment of maturity from her based on e1. i appreciated that jesse told her joel wanted to patrol with her but took dina instead. -which leads me to...swapping Dina and Ellie for Jesse and Ellie. based on the writing so far, i would not expect the high scene in the game of this dina and ellie. they do not have the emotional intimacy or physical intimacy, for that matter! expanding on Eugene and Joel (Vietnam) was interesting, that whole thing called back to save who you can save etc. i think Dina and Joel are compelling because to me he's taking measures that he wouldn’t take if it was Tommy to keep dina safe, and it makes it more plausible that Ellie would go after Dina and Joel with Jesse once they find out they have not radio'd in. i also think in a roundabout way it compells dina to go to seattle more. the way the WLF spare her and seemingly have no/little intentions to hurt her/anyone joel is with from the start based on the fact they have a sedative and mel assures joel dina will be fine. it was interesting to me how this complicated how we feel about the WLF and how the line of manny/nora/abby was drawn as opposed to mel/owen being much more hesitant to drag out the ordeal/leave casualties -eighteen solders and one doctor? abby, come on. Why do we need to specify. also when i played it it feld like A LOT MORE THAN 18 LET ME TELL YOU THAT -Abby using her fists….hmmmm. i thought there was value in the fact that she used the iron the whole time in the game. getting the blood all over her but not using her hands. i guess this adds some grit to her? EDIT; I thought about it and I think there’s a really chilling dehumanization in her using the golf club to beat him to death slowly because she’s treating him like an animal to be put down. So I think using her fists is a perhaps uncharacteristically hands-on (lol, sorry) choice for her -something something about Ellie going up rather than down to find Joel. this is a really small note, but it occured to me when thinking about the scene as the player experiences it in the game. you enter the lodge from the top floor, take the stairs down from the loft, and explore the main floor. you hear joel being tortured the whole time. you are led to a staircase down and enter the garden level via a door. i think there is something meaningful about going down, down, down, to find this life-altering act of violence. the opposite occurred in the show. i think the death/discovery was rushed, personally, but i'm not sure how they could have dragged it out.
BAD -handsome line again from abby...damn those nurses had a lot to say! i just think its irrelevant and uninteresting. why do we have to bring it up again -so, i know that this doesn't matter because obviously he dies, so who is going to know? ellie isn't there fo this which is arguably the more important part, dina is passed out, but i just think there is a specific tragedy in the game derived from the fact that joel doesn't know (or care) why abby is here and doing this. he always expected that death would come for him. i think he largely feels this way anyway -- given the way he responds to her monologue, so kudos there. i was just mad that she went into it! but most of the stuff around it i liked (you don't get to rush this etc). i can't figure out if this is supposed to endear the viewer to her as it's hard to see it from the perspective of someone who does not already know he's her dad. -lack of score. the score in this entire sequence is so good. eye for an eye is an amazing track. i think the sound mixing was not right for this episode, frankly.
so! better than 201 by miles. MILES. rushed, in my opinion, but we'll see how it plays out. let me know what you thought!

It's the clones turn to be catified!!! I chose the Burmese breed for a few reasons: its rich dark browns (show me the TAN Disney!!), the stocky and muscular body, the big and roundish face, they have colour variants that make them look blondish (coughRexOmegacough) or silver (coughCrosshaircough) and because it isn't your typical american/european breed (as an extra, it's a really popular breed in New Zealand and Temuera Morrison, the actor that plays Jango and the clones in the movies is from there!).
I also used the dark stripes these cats show on their heads to personalize each clone if the character has any iconic tatto or painted helmet (or scar). Aaannddd talking about scars... those nipped ears are there for a reason! Veteran cat clones tend to have more (unless you'r Hardcase being Hardcase)
More Star Wars Cats here: Disaster lineage, Hunter, Crosshair, Tech, Wrecker, Echo.

Clone Headcanons
This has been sat in my phone notes for a while and I kept forgetting to actually turn it into a post. So here are some of my clone related headcanons (some of which have no explanation)
Crosshair is a nail-biter. When he was a cadet, his nails were almost non-existant and completely ragged. Once he had to start wearing blacks, he stopped because he couldn't chew his nails through the gloves, and he turned to toothpicks instead. He eventually worked himself out of the habit, but he will start biting his nails again if he goes without toothpicks for too long.
Echo talks in his sleep. Normally, it's non-sensical but he has spooked some of his brothers due to some slightly terrifying things that have been said while he's asleep.
Tup is non-binary.
Echo is aroace.
Wrecker has hearing loss in his left ear as a result of the explosion that scarred the side of his face. His brothers will talk a little louder if they are stood on his left, so that he can hear them better, and sometimes it takes them a few attempts to wake him up because he's fallen asleep on his right side and can't hear them very well.
Cody despises crying in front of people and will avoid it when he can. Rex is the only one who has actually seen Cody properly cry.
99 would tell the cadets stories when they were having nightmares and would often sacrifice his own sleep to make sure that they were okay. He would also name characters after the clones that he used to tell the stories to. One of the greatest honours was for a clone to be told that a character was named after them in one of 99's stories.
Dogma is allergic to tookas.
Echo has always run cold and would often sleep with socks on. He only stopped doing it because of his prosthetics. Fives is the opposite and will often sleep in as few clothes as possible.
Jesse has a scar on the back of his hand where Hardcase accidentally stabbed it with a fork.
Hunter is dyslexic and Tech would often help him during assessments so that the Kaminoans didn't find out.
Cody sleeps like the dead. He's very quiet and doesn't move around a lot, so much so that his brothers have panicked that he's died in his sleep on more than one occassion.
Wolffe accidentally called Plo Koon dad once. Plo actually found it very endearing but no-one is allowed to bring it up because Wolffe has very heavily implied that anyone who mentions it will never be found again.
Fox has a small scar just above his right eyebrow. If anyone asks, he just says he got it in an altercation and leaves it at that. No-one knows that said altercation was actually with a door that Fox walked into because he was too tired to pay attention.
