Summary: Street has a friend who seems to know a lot about a lot. Reggie always comes with information when 20-David least expects it, but no one's seen or even heard him before. So what happens when he comes to HQ unannounced?

CW: discussions about drug dealing, gun dealing, and other crimes - canon level tbh, more to come throughout the series though.

Dead ends in a case weren't favorable. Anytime 20-David faced some kind of roadblock, they could always find a way around it. As the team leader, Hondo was always thinking of the next step. The crook they were after was smart, so he and his team needed to be smarter. The only drawback was that their man was an ace at hiding in plain sight and they'd lost their eyes on him, so everyone was wracking their brains to figure out what to do next. 

“We need to figure out where Jones is before he makes a move, he could try to flee and then we'll be out of luck,” Deacon said, putting down his work tablet and looking at everyone. “He could take the drugs with him and they'll be gone before we know it.” 

“We just have to think like him,” Hondo said, arms crossed over his chest. “Where would he go or who could he get in contact with to lay low for a while?” 

“He's got a long list of friends, too many to talk to individually,” Chris sighed as she scrolled through known associates of their suspect. “We could split them up, divide and conquer.” 

“That would still take too long,” Tan said as he looked at the list over her shoulder. “He'll hear us knocking on doors and split.” 

“And they'll cover his tracks for him,” Luca added, displeased with where this was headed. 

“I've got a friend who might know something,” Street interjected, causing everyone to look at him. “What?” 

“Does this friend have a record?” Hondo asked. 

“No.” 

“Are they in Long Beach, because that won't help us much,” Deacon said. 

“No.” 

“Are they an informant?” Tan asked. 

“Not exactly.” 

Hondo sighed and nodded to him. “Get in contact with this friend of yours. If they have anything useful, we'll run with it.” He turned to everyone else. “For now, we'll start with Jones’ associates, get eyes on them, and see where that takes us.” 

Street grinned as he slipped his phone from his pocket. As everyone else got to work, he dialed the number, walking away once the call was answered. “Hey, Reggie! I need a favor…” 

The team watched him as his voice faded. Once he was out of earshot, Hondo shook his head. “I hope this doesn't come back to bite us.” 

The information Reggie provided was more than helpful. Street returned with a big smile and informed his teammates that Fredrick Jones wasn't with an associate listed in their records but at an old girlfriend's place. When asked how Reggie the not-really-an-informant got that information, Street shrugged and said, “I don't really ask how Reggie gets in touch with these people.” 

It was a half lie. He did know, but he'd rather not know. 

He quickly pushed all the looks and questions aside, aiming to get on with going after Jones and arresting him. So, he pulled up an aerial map of the address he'd looked up for the ex and showed it to his teammates. “Well?” 

Hondo looked at him and smirked. “Alright, let's go.” Then he pointed at him. “But we're not done talking about your friend Reggie.” 

But they never did get to have that follow-up conversation. After Jones was apprehended, things moved fast. Before they knew it, they were onto the next case, saving the next person, preventing the next tragedy. Life went on. 

It was a couple of months later that anyone in S.W.A.T. heard the name Reggie again. 

Street walked in with knitted brown and a frown. His team was currently on standby, working less active cases to pass the time as nothing was urgent until he caught up to Hondo as he was walking toward the kitchen. 

“Hey, so Reggie gave me a call this morning and said something weird is going on in the neighborhood of a coworker,” he explained, knowing it sounded out there and unreliable. “A black van was backed into a driveway and the coworker said they saw the neighbor loading a lot of crates into the back.” 

“Why didn't the coworker call it in?” Hondo asked skeptically. 

“Reggie said they were scared, that this neighbor hasn't been the same since his wife died and didn't want it to come back to him if anyone looked into it,” he explained. 

Hondo stopped and turned to Street in the hall. “Did he actually witness this happening or is Reggie just sending the message? How do I know we can trust this guy?” 

Street opened his mouth to reply but then his phone dinged and he dug into his pocket to see what it was. He smirked as he watched the screen for a moment, then turned the phone to his leader. 

On display was a video of the aforementioned black van from a distance. It was backed into the driveway of a nice-looking home, but it wasn't too fancy or expensive. There were a few hedges and trees in the way, but there was a gap just big enough to see a man loading what looked to be a heavy crate into the back of the van. The video went on for a moment without anything happening, then he appeared to move another crate into the van, shut the doors, walked around to the driver's side, and got behind the wheel. 

Hondo looked up from the device and at Street. “Alright, who is this guy?” 

“I don't know,” he said, then looked at his phone as he got another message. “But, according to Reg, this is the second time he's done this. Something's up.” 

“I don't disagree,” Hondo said and nodded toward the phone. “See if Reggie can get the address of this neighbor and get the team together. And tell your friend we'll look into it.” 

Street smiled as he looked down to send a text. 

The neighbor, as it turned out, was selling illegal weapons out of his home in large quantities. His wife had been the breadwinner and once she died, he didn't want to get a real job, so he got involved in smuggling and selling weapons to gangs and anyone who wanted high-powered guns.

When he was arrested, he was erratic and non-compliant. He shot at the police when they came to his home and found himself getting taken down by Deacon. The man swore like a sailor, worse than one even, and explained that all he knew how to do was guns. Guns guns guns. He wouldn't shut up about how much his wife had hated them, so when she died, he was finally able to have them again. They later found out that he had blown all his savings on them and needed a way to provide for himself and his habit of collecting weapons. 

Now, S.W.A.T. was on the hunt for all of those weapons while he would be charged. And it was thanks to Reggie, who allegedly gave the credit to the coworker who had shared their concerns. They remained anonymous when it was time to go to trial but Reggie made a promise to Street to keep an ear out about any illegally obtained guns. 

As time went on, the team either heard of Reggie from Street or didn't hear of Reggie at all. It piqued everyone's interest, especially since the tips they were given always led to something. Whether it was an accomplice or a threat that eventually got them to the bigger picture, Reggie was aware of a lot.

He was a mystery to all, quickly earning him the joking nickname of Urban Legend around S.W.A.T. HQ. 

It was a quiet day, so everyone was using their time wisely to catch up on case information, help where they could, or train to keep their bodies in tip-top shape. Luca and Chris were in the boxing ring, taking turns practicing their punches. It was Luca's turn to hit the mitts when a woman walked by, looking around as if lost. Upon seeing her so lost, Luca dropped his arms, nodded to the woman, and walked past Chris. He stopped at the edge of the boxing ring and called out to her. 

“Need any help?” he asked. 

The woman turned to him and pushed a strand of hair out of her face, tucking it behind her ear. “Yes, actually. I'm looking for Jim Street.” 

“He's working with some officers at the moment,” Chris told her, grabbing the rope and lifting it. She and Luca exited the ring and stepped down as the woman approached. “Maybe we can help you while you wait for him.” 

“That's nice of you, but I really only feel comfortable talking to him,” the woman explained trying not to be rude. 

Luca nodded gently, sensing she was a little anxious. Her jaw was tight and her dark eyes were darting around the room, so he tried to put her at ease. “Okay, that's alright. I'm sure he'll be done soon and you can talk to him. Can we get you anything in the meantime? Water? Juice?” 

“No, thank you though,” she said and took a deep breath, trying to calm her nerves. Her hand came up to fiddle with the visitor's badge she'd been given. 

Chris posed a question, “Does he know you're here?” 

She shook her head and sighed. “I probably should have texted him but I-” she stopped and looked at the two S.W.A.T. officers in front of her. “I'm sorry, I've been so rude. I didn't even introduce myself.” 

Luca smiled softly and shook his head. “I guess that makes us rude too, but we were so focused on helping you that we forgot.” 

His jovial tone seemed to help ease her mind and she smiled.

Chris put out her hand to shake as she introduced herself, then her teammate beside her. They both shook hands with the woman as she nodded, a certain recognition in her eye. 

She smiled, tension melting away from her face. “It's so nice to meet you. I'm-” 

“Reggie?” a voice called from behind. 

She turned and the officers looked up to see Street and Tan coming their way. Street looked shocked and Tan was intrigued. Everyone's ears were burning as they heard the name of their Urban Legend uttered, but did they finally have a face to put to it? 

“You're Reggie?” Luca asked, mystified. 

The woman looked back at him and Chris, a tight smile on her lips. “Only to Jimmy. It's short for Regina.” 

Street walked up to her and asked, “What are doing here?”

Yeah, Yuri called Hopper Joyce's boyfriend but the flight attendant also called Murray her husband and she didn't even correct her so what, does that mean THEY'RE endgame now? Antonov called Joyce Hopper's woman but he got angry every time and said it literally wasn't true. He asked her out last season but it's been a while and she could have gotten over him. I mean, she asked out Hopper 6 months after Bob died, why wouldn't the same rules apply almost a year after Hopper? Nobody says that wasn't just to build up tragedy and now they're over each other. David Harbour is even quoted in May 2022 saying they wouldn't work. They HUGGED when they reunited. Hugs are romantic now? He hugs his DAUGHTER all the time, so I think not. She went to find him, yes, but so did Murray. Lucas went on his own to find Will in 1x06. How is this any different? Dedication isn't inherently romantic.

oh i love that !! tbh i have always thought it was a little silly to assume that davey wouldn't have an accent. i know that ben fank's kinda goes in and out in livesies but my davey will always have a sprinkle of New Yorker in the way he talks! (unless its one of my modern aus where he's from chicago lmao)

but yeah no i 100% believe in bilingual javid supremacy. it's always a toss-up for davey- when he's tired, his New York accent gets really thick, and i can see his polish accent coming through a lot stronger when he's stressed (mainly because it usually accompanies a frantic phone call/convo with Esther)! jack's new york accent is much more prominent all of the time, but he always resorts to speaking Spanish when he's stressed or pissed off, and his accents kind of mix when he's really tired!

of course they both love it when they talk in their native languages. i think davey would know spanish- i love polyglot dave- so he and jack talk in spanish pretty frequently, and while jack wouldn't know any polish at first he definitely picks up on a lot of phrases! and also they think that their accents are hot. duh.

OH I LOVE THIS QUESTION!!!!!!! i'm gonna tryyyyy and take this seriously

starting off i think alfred's music taste influences just about everyone in the manor to some degree. lots of classical music flowing through the hallways at most hours of the day, the music reminds everyone of home. i think it's a general rule of thumb in the family that if you want to locate alfred, just follow the sound of mozart.

drawing off a bit of canon, i think dick listens to a lot of popular 80s stuff. the cure, joy division, the b-52s, billy joel, abba etc. that one panel of him humming 'here comes the sun' also comes to mind, i think he'd enjoy the beatles. however i do think he'd also be into some soft rock, maybe just a little bit of more intense stuff too. fleetwood mac's a big one i think he'd like. i've mentioned in a post before how i think dick would enjoy foo fighters in his post-robin rebellion phase, and i stand by that.

i do also enjoy his insane love for david bowie in the live-action titans adaption... very dear to me. i take that as gospel. also have a slight feeling he's a bit of a jazz guy once in a blue moon.

however i don't think he'd be overly into music, (the artists though, that's a whole other thing), i think he's also just happy to flick on the radio to some random dated station... or, don't crucify me... the top hits of the day.

i think jason's taste is a bit more refined. he's the #1 victim of alfred's classical music agenda, sitting in the library he's got something like 'lacrimosa' looping endlessly.

unlike dick who's got a happy-go-lucky approach to music, i think jason feels into it a bit more. he's joyriding through the city and listening to slipknot, sleeping with sirens, misfits etc etc. he's just looking for background music, maybe he's playing dashboard confessional, or... hear me out... lana del rey. he's out on patrol and is playing 90's rap through his helmet's bluetooth.

i think he'd also enjoy amy winehouse, the boys next door, no doubt, alice in chains, and maybe a bit of lorde. he's definitely into more indie bands too, local stuff. makes his own mixtapes and you'd only be able to recognise like 20% of the bands by name. he's also the one batfam member who i think would go to war to defend the songs he feels deeply about.

tim's a bit more difficult to narrow down, but i'll throw 90s alternative out there; jimmy eat world, oasis, radiohead, weezer, pearl jam type stuff. i'm also very set in my ways about femme-pop tim, which is definitely more out there and harder to justify. in terms of that i think beyonce, rihanna, and britney spears are the big three he'd enjoy.

i just think he likes anything with a beat tbh, it's not so much about genre or the actual song, as it is about the mood. similarly to dick, i don't think he's typically meticulous with defining his taste or anything, just happy to listen to whatever's making him feel good.

as for damian, i think anything with soothing instruments entices him. mainly classical, but not just limited to european stuff, i'm thinking of tyagaraja, toru takemitsu etc just off the top of my head. he'd also like elton john, queen, and other older artists with a polished vocal and avantgarde nature. i'm also going to put cartoon soundtrack music into the mix, specifically songs from adventure time. for whatever reason i'm also super drawn into the idea of him being big on kpop, although i don't know enough about the genre to make specific assumptions.

steph (ik she's not exactly batfam but i'm including her anyways) listens to predominantly female artists, and oscillates between very uplifting pop stuff, and.. societal hatred. so i think on one hand she's very into marina and the diamonds, kesha, and olivia rodrigo, but also paramore, hole, fiona apple, lorde etc. in contrast to all of that though she's also a huge fan of the beatles' solo careers, particularly paul mccartney.

cass is into a lot of the music she's done for ballet performances. the music for the snow queen instantly comes to mind as something that would be a favourite of hers. this might be a bit out there, but i think she'd enjoy grimes a lot, mostly because of how enriching it is to just listen to the sounds of, without having to pay much mind to the words she's speaking (grimes never really makes a lot of sense anyways). apart from that i don't think she really listens to all that much music, maybe some 2000s pop she hears on the radio driving around with steph.. i did enjoy the all star gag in batgirls (2022).

babs has a pretty similar taste to steph i think (i believe steph may have gotten some of her taste from her). she's a big fan of stevie nicks, gwen stefani, maybe the cranberries, hole, dolly parton, janet jackson, lauryn hill, and lesley gore. i'd like to say she enjoys a bit of 70s eccentric too, the doors, blondie, bowie etc. i don't think she's overly fussed with what she's listening to, as long as it doesn't sound too watered down and modern-pop like.

and i don't really know enough about duke to make assumptions, so i'm just going to let him sit out of this one. i also don't think bruce has any time for music, except for a bit of classical to help him concentrate every so often.

the bear sydcarmy thoughts (season 3 spoilers)

I have never felt so dead inside and empty. I ended the season literally burning up. Perhaps I got my hopes up too much which wasn’t a lot tbh. I expected with sydcarmy the s3 ender was gonna be like a fight because of a reveal of her opportunity and maybe maybe a realization of feelings. But wow not that at all, in fact there was nothing really resolved.

I was expecting the angst and to be pissed off at Camry but but we’ve never been so immeasurably down and I have to say I don’t know how I feel about sydcarmy now.

What I notice is these two really took a nosedive this season. We went so downhill. In prior seasons we can usually expect by the end for some resolution to happen between the two, syd comes back, or we get like the lovely table scene. This season it’s like they got progressively farther and father apart.

We started off so strong with the EMP scene. Like I couldn’t fucking believe we actually got that scene, i shot up out of my seat it was so surreal.

And then as we continue to go, there’s barely any moments between the two together. And when there is, they’re always cut short. And you’re kind of just left short, wanting more. And i guess that was on purpose to show them so out of sync and their biggest weakness, communication. They really became just two coworkers, so unfamiliar with each other. And I was truly hoping we’d get something from the Ever scenes but no carmy is just so isolated.

And again I guess that’s the point. Carmy is so in his head, so haunted by Claire and David, so focused on the restaurant that he’s not trying at all to form a connection with syd (platonic nor romantic). He’s so focused on his past and carrying the weight of things left unsaid that as the al anon meeting says, it just digs deeper and deeper with him. Because he never bothers to resolve his issues, go to therapy and apologize to Claire.

So here’s the thing about Claire. It’s obvious he needed to resolve what happened with her. But what was really jarring to me was the amount of Claire scenes we got. In season 2 Claire is depicted as a distraction, there is always this constant clock running in the background with her. Carmy doesn’t even know exactly what Claire is to him, “a girl that’s a friend or a girlfriend.” Their relationship is so surface level. And then we start getting these s3 scenes and it feels like they’re retconning their relationship because this isn’t the claire and carmy from season 2. And if they were so great together why wouldn’t you show us then! Where are all these scenes coming from. But okay let’s say storer did hear people’s complaints and chose to give more to clairecarmy, then I feel so horribly fucked as a sydcarmy shipper cause why would you give us such obvious editing and juxtaposition between Sydney and Claire in s2 and turn around and do this. It feels like a betrayal. And worse of all the whole “Claire is your peace” THATS NOT WHAT THE PANIC ATTACK SCENE SAID IN S2, syd is the one who calmed him down. And despite seeing all these clairecarmy scenes they cannot measure up to the substance, the complexity of sydcarmy. And worse of all they didn’t even resolve the clairecarmy bs. And if they’ve spent so much time shoving these two in our face and I meant to believe those two are endgame, that they are meant to be together. god I’m gonna throw up, I feel so played.

But then my hope, perhaps my delusional is the EMP meal scene. It tells me that there will always be this invisible string between sydcarmy and as Chris storer said himself it’s about “finding the right people when you’re supposed to find them.”

Syd is right at the end of episode 1, is it supposed to indicate she is the endgame.

What worries me though is if they take this in a platonic direction, the platonic soulmates bs and continue on with clairecarmy.

So anyway back on carmy, and him keeping everything in and avoiding his problems. That is the reason why this season is so angsty. Carmy regresses severely and he is so lonely, you really feel it at the end of the season as everyone shares their story and he is too focused on David to connect with anyone. And then when he finally confronts David, he realizes nothing he says to this man matters. His words don’t mean shit. And it feels especially poignant because he’s been holding onto this for years, all this anger and hatred. He even follows in David’s footsteps with his own restaurant: “the greatest mistake is working for a bad boss, what it unlocks in you is the culture that you choose to create.” And they juxtapose David with Claire. And again is this the clairecarmy agenda being pushed. Or I also see it as him finally having confronted David, he now needs to resolve whatever the fuck he needs to with Claire.

Okay so onto Terry. Terry says: “i got to do all the things i wanted to do the way i wanted to do with the people i wanted to do it with.” And this is the thing carmy has to strive for, to create that good culture again. To make connections again. I mean correct me if I’m wrong but the only person he really connects with is Marcus (his actual mentee) he doesn’t really talk to Sydney, doesn’t resolve anything with Richie, I think he doesn’t even really talk to Sugar. And I’m realizing now, throughout the season there were so many people connecting with different people (off the top of my head: Marcus and Tina, Tina and Nat, Nat and Richie, Richie and Sydney, Sydney and Marcus). There’s so many more and different duos going on, and carmys barely a part of any of it. And then with Sydney’s party, while everyone’s celebrating and carmys just on his own.

We really emphasize his loneliness. There’s also the Sydney and Luca conversation about siblings, and then Sydney’s loneliness and her experiencing everything on her own and being used to dealing with things on her alone. And we see that in her panic attack scene, and she has no anchor (as someone else pointed out), no one there to comfort her. And it ending on this loneliness that follows both sydney and carmy around and that’s another thing that ties them together.

I don’t really know how to end this. I don’t know how I feel about sydcarmy right now, what the show is trying to tell me. Should I have faith in their invisible string, in them being tied together by loneliness. I understand this was the angst season and carmy really regressed, and he was focused on David and Claire. Is this season pivoting and telling me clairecarmy are endgame, or is it carmy being haunted by the still unresolved things between them? I can accept the added romance to their relationship, I mean she is his first real gf, there has to be good there. Does this necessarily mean their endgame or is she just a stepping stone, a first gf someone he is meant to learn lessons from, to then have his endgame with Sydney? (I think of new girl and the various good relationships nick and jess went through before getting endgame.)

THEY COULDNT RESOLVE ONE FUCKING THING!

And then the “to be continued” sign. Is this what people felt when they watched Across the Spiderverse, but like we were actually building towards something there. All I’m left with is dread with the bear.

Lastly I am so conflicted by this partnership. I have no idea what I want syd to choose. There will be a big show of loyalty if Sydney chooses to stick with carmy, I mean I also have to respect the loyalty in her also choosing the crew, her family (like Marcus and Tina and Nat). But we also see how far Sydney and carmy drifted from each other and we see the loss of their collocation and their synchronization. The way Carmy rebuffs all her suggestions. So im like “yeah fuck carmy, go off on your own syd.” And if she were to choose to stay that would be such a big sign of something more to me because now she’s choosing to believe in his potential, which is a big fucking deal.

But then I also think about the growth carmy experienced from learning at all these places. And how Sydney deserves that too. And also carmys speech about the chefs and learning from each other and branching out on their own. And maybe it’s that too, Sydney spreading her wings. But then no, I’m selfishly like no I don’t want her to leave.

But then maybe it’s meant to show growth in carmy, he was the one who left before. Now he has to trust in syd to leave and come back again. Idk.

Or yeah maybe syd just deserves to fuck off, become successful and fuck over this man.

I also think about that one twt post where the bear is about “Carmy falling in love with Sydney. And Sydney falling out with carmy” and god that would fuck me up so bad.

Am I meant to hold out hope, like this is rock bottom and there’s only up from here. Or is this them extinguishing the fire of sydcarmy for us? I understand we always have fan fiction and canons not everything, but the way camry and Sydney’s relationship, even platonically, was handled this season left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Idk where I’m going with this. I don’t even know how I feel about sydcarmy anymore, I want to read a fic to soothe me but I don’t even think carmy deserves to be happy with Sydney right now. Idk let me know your thoughts, maybe my fellow sydcarmys can pull me out.

IDK the first time I heard it, it reminded me of how Jason believed that Robin is magic and maybe even like Bruce or Dick singing this to him knowing what was going to happen to him one day.

Tim Drake -- Clara Bow

okay, so there's not just one lyric that really sticks out to me but the overarching story that this song tells. It's all about being replaced with the next big thing. Taylor Swift is compared to Stevie Nicks who is compared to Clara Bow and one day T. Swift is going to be replaced with something shiny and new and that just reminds me of Tim.

Tim is the third Robin, he replaced Jason who replaced Dick and one day he himself is going to be replaced. There's a lot of HC where he's aware of this fact, that he knows that his role as Robin is not a permanent thing, that one day, he too will be replaced. And eventually, he is.

okay Cass was really hard for me at first to pin down what song fit her but then I listened to The Albatross and holy cow.

I don't know quite how to explain how this song makes me think of Cass except for how it just makes me think about how she decided to take her life in her own hands and become her own person. Now she's strong and powerful but in more ways than just how David Cain made her out to be. She's caring and loving and she's going to destroy the idea that she was ever just a weapon.

Stephanie Brown -- I Can Do It With a Broken Heart

Listen, listen, this woman has been through so freaking much and she has come out on top and with a smile on her face the entire time. She is resilient and she isn't scared to fight Bruce Wayne himself if she needs to.

She rolls with the punches and she swallows it down and she smiles through it all and I just friggen love Stephanie Brown so much.

100% Views Bruce as a father figure. Hates David Cain, and just does not care about Lady Shiva.

Favourite sibling is Tim, and is best friends with Stephanie.

People constantly think that Damian and her are biological siblings, so when they ask, she looks them dead in the eyes and tells them ‘He’s my dad’. It gets the reporters confused every time.

Obnoxiously acts like a little Angel, but everyone knows she’s not. “Cass. We all know you crashed the Batmobile. No, you smiling will not change my mind. Yes, your smile is very pretty, BUT STILL.”

Her and Dick are forced to be the responsible ones when everyone is hanging out. With Cass in charge of Dick, and Dick in charge of Cass. It oddly works out.

Loves spoiling Damian, it’s getting concerning. In turn, Damian’s pets love her.

Stephanie spills tea about EVERYONE to her. Even about her classmates, who Cass has never even met. Fake dating Steph as well so that nobody tries to flirt with her during galas, and to explain why Steph is so close with the family.

Babs is a major role model in her life. When Cass needs advice, Babs is the first number on her phone.

She loves Selina. But sometimes doesn’t trust her. Otherwise, she approves of Batcat :) Not that strong of a mother-daughter relationship, but she buys Selina a gift for Mother’s Day, just because she can.

Tim:-

Yes, he does view Bruce as a father figure. He also still views Jack as a father figure but he’s dead now <333 As for Janet…she’s a complicated situation.

Favourite siblings are Dick and Cass. He’s besties with Stephanie, basically tells her almost everything.

Both him and Damian are petty, so they trade insults a lot, but it’s more bantering than fighting lol. They do go out to places together, but they are always acting like they are forced to, or that they would be anywhere else (even though they like hanging with each other)

He will not stop with the ‘middle child’ jokes. He will purposefully make Bruce ignore him just so he give a long monologue about being the middle child. He will then ask Bruce to give Damian up for adoption to redeem himself. Damian is still here :D

Cass is Tim’s wingman. (Which is why it took so long for TimKon/Timber to get together)

Tim gives the best Christmas gifts, followed by Damian. This is mostly because he’s a STALKER.

He likes Babs a lot, but acts like a CHILD, because she’s better at hacking than he his and therefore she stops him from doing a few things. He threw a tantrum once when she activated CHILD-LOCK on his computer.

He adores Selina. Sometimes suspicious of her, but mostly trusts her. Selina spoils him, Duke and Damian to no limits.

Stephanie:-

Bruce is NOT her parent figure, but she still views his kids as her siblings. Crystal is her mom, she does not consider Arthur her dad.

Favourite siblings are Damian and Tim, Cass and Jason are her besties.

When Jason is mad at the family and going someplace without telling them, he only tells Steph where he is going.

Once, Tim asked how they were her siblings when Bruce or Selina aren’t her parents, so she declared that Talia was her other mom, and made weird stories connecting each of them :D

Cass knows ALL of Steph secrets, because Steph keeps venting to her 24/7.

When Tim and her are together, they start collectively working on a singular brain cell, making the other person next to them having to be the responsible one. On one memorable occasion, it turned out to be Damian.

Stephanie, Dick and Tim love stalking there siblings when they get a date. Just for fun <333. Stephanie and Dick however are the quote on quote ‘embarrassing parents’ energy when it comes to dates. (Tim and Duke are pretty chill when it comes to dates, Bruce, Damian and Jason are the ones who do the shovel talk, and Cass is just staring at you menacingly during the first family dinner.)

Stephanie and Duke are the ones who sneak off to do underage drinking. Tim and Jason are the ones trying to stop them LMAO.

Stephanie likes Selina a lot. She is constantly pestering her to let her see Harley and Poison Ivy. Selina let her one time, and they caused SO MUCH chaos. (Steph is Selina’s second favourite)

Duke:-

He doesn’t see Bruce as a father figure fully yet, but he does love him. He still considers his parents (minus the weird god dad) as his parents.

Favourite siblings are Damian and Jason. Because, in Tim’s words, he’s weird like that. Him and Damian go to movies every month, and we’re especially excited for the FNAF movie. (They LOVE FNAF.)

Duke is also super younger-sibling coded. If everyone gets super defensive of Damian, then he’s the one who can say ANYTHING and get away with it. As a joke, Jason starts referring to him and Damian as twins because when people ask who they’re ‘youngest sibling’ is, everyone keeps alternating between Duke and Damian.

At first he was downright TERRIFIED of Cass. Like he was scared to be in the same room as her. Now they team up to scare everyone else. (Duke is just recording, Cass does the scaring)

Damian only does ‘puppy eyes’ VERY rarely, and it works effectively every time. Duke? He does it for Every. Little. Thing. And most of the time? He gets it. Tim and Cass are the only one who can resist it. Sometimes.

Dick is Dukes idol. He wants to be like Dick in the future :3

Jason and Duke call each other ‘narrows’ and ‘alley’ respectively. Duke also does a lot of shit, just Bruce never finds out because nobody tells on him, so Jason is JELLY of that.

Stephanie and Duke have the most similar taste in food out of everyone else. VERY, VERY sugary. Nobody listens to them when they suggest to eat something. It’s too sugary.

Selina acts like Duke is her biological son as a joke to the press. The press still thinks it’s true. It’s downright hilarious.

Damian:-

Parental figures are Bruce and Dick, though they don’t acknowledge it :) (Ignore Gotham War, Ignore Gotham War) The relationship with Talia…is messy, to say the least.

Favourite siblings are Stephanie and Duke (because obviously???) They use there gremlin nature to a MAX to prank everyone else.

He is the most younger sibling coded person ever. He’s a little gremlin-demon, but if you mess with him, you’re messing with ALL OF THEM.

Upset that Tim and Stephanie broke up, and started shipping Steph and Cass (for shit and giggles, they are the type of besties who act like there in a relationship, and Damian knows this) and constantly asks Cass when she’s proposing so that Steph can be his sister legally as well <33

Constantly bantering with Tim, but they love each other. They just have weird ways of showing it :3

Dislike-Dislike relationship with Jason, but can and will team up with each other to ruin everyone’s day. They also don’t want each other dead ig :)

Only accepts Babs as Dicks girlfriend. No in between. But he will respect Kori. Begrudgingly.

Respects Jim Gordon so much lmaooo.

Has learned the Alfred eyebrow raise. He is now tormenting everyone with it.

Selina is Bruce’s fiancé, but they have a ‘chaotic aunt, and chaotic nephew’ type of bond. Damian is 100% Selina’s fav.

Some thoughts about the new Batgirl ongoing title

If you didn't notice already, in 2024 a new Batgirl ongoing title started. In celebration of the upcoming January 26th, I am posting my thoughts on it. Tate Brombal is the writer snd there are a lot of nods to the original series, published throughout the early 00s. I am now going to try to gauge his direction for the title, seeing his tendency to build on what was already established and what he might want to do, as I decipher the story he wants to tell.

Canon and possible retcons?

First of all, what's canon? There are clear references throughout the text to Batgirl (2000), however, because of a few directly contradicting passages, we are sure not EVERYTHING is canon (Despite what the Infinite Frontiers claims). In #3, there was a literal editorial note to #25 (2000), but can we assume it was the same? Probably not. Well, we know that Shiva did at least kill her and revive her.

The thing that confuses me mildly is the fact, that Cass clearly recognizes Nyssa Raatko, while being unaware of Carolyn Wu-San's existence. In the last arc, Destruction's daughter, Cass met Nyssa Raatko in the League of Assassins outpost, and, as far as I am aware, that was the only time they met, both Post-Crisis and in Rebirth, though I might not be correct, I did however try to fact-check with a wiki. In #73, the last issue of Batgirl vol. 1, the same arc, Lady Shiva does tell Cass a few tidbits about her childhood and mentions her sister. We can therefore assume these events, such as Cassandra's third death or Shiva's death, never took place or took place differently. Which is, honestly, pretty good. I am all for revising and retconning that frankly disgusting Shiva's backstory.

For those unaware, David Cain basically saw some sort of potential to kill, decided to lure her by killing her sister Carolyn, Sandra decided to avenge her, Cain defeated her and forced her to have a child because he wanted to raise a perfect killer. Enter Cassandra Cain. We might be getting therefore new or revised backstory once Cassandra asks (knowing her, confront would probably be a better word tbh) Shiva about Carolyn. That would make sense, given the series' big emphasis on their relationship so far. I am wondering how will it all mesh with Cassandra's backstory from No Man's Land, Batgirl (2000) and Batman and Robin Eternal, given their obvious differences. I am not sure what is and isn't canon, honestly, this is way too confusing.

Where the hell are they going?

As of the last issue, we know that Cass and Shiva are embarked on a train away from Gotham. All we know is the fact that it is because they are being targeted by Kalden and the Unburied. This seems pretty interesting. Partly, we got an answer in #3, it's probably because the Order of Shiva is traveling with them and it would be pretty cumbersome to transport all those people... It also doesn't really answer where they're headed to, the only thing we know is the fact that they are running away from a bunch of undead ninjas pursuing them and that place is presumably reachable from Gotham by train and therefore somewhere in America.

It could be that they are going to some random town, although given that this is a story written not to be the most realistic possible, but to be the most interesting possible, I am leaning towards it being somewhere significant. I think there are multiple possibilities. It could be some... hidden outpost, hell maybe the one from the Batgirl finale, or, hear me out, Detroit. I checked, it is a long train ride but it is doable from New Jersey, the place where Gotham City usually is located. That could make sense based on what I said earlier and it could easily be what happens in the issue #5, based on the start of the synopsis (and I hope those poppy-induced hallucinations will be Steph but like, that is quite predictable, based on the fact that she already hallucinated her two times in her original series. But also).

The surprise attack?

In the synopsis of the upcoming issue #4, we learn that a surprise attack will "change everything" and it ponders whether Cass will join "the enemy of an enemy". The enemy in question will obviously be Lady Shiva, Nyssa Raatko, Angel Breaker and... that guy. Who is their enemy? Now, this is an interesting question. For Lady Shiva and Angel Breaker, I could see their common enemy being Black Canary but I can't see Cass not taking Dinah's side in this lol. I am also thinking of Ra's Al Ghul and the League of Assassins in general, mostly because of the appearance of the League of Shadows, as they are those who decided to split for the League of Asssassins.

Apparently, in Batgirl #5 there will be a surprise visit from a family member and given what I just said, it might be Damian... I don't think those two interacted much and honestly, it might be pretty surprising. Or Jason, he has ties with League of Assassins throught the time he spent there with Talia after his ressurection. It could be interesting, given their very conflicting morals. Although I have seen much more probable predictions of Steph (though that isn't surprising, it is pretty predictable, though I would love her to be in this book at some point, given that she doesn't get much content these days), Azrael, Duke or even Helena. The surprise attack could easily just be those Unburied, though, and I am reading too much into the "surprising" aspect of things.

Some new characters

The biggest unknown, so far, are the Undead, Kalden and the guy on the train. We don't know much about them, we just got some exposition from Shiva. I can't really make up a theory because there isn't that much to work with, despite the arc already being half-finished. I do think that Lady Shiva is not telling something. She was shown to be pretty manipulative in this run so far. She mentioned that they woke up centuries later with vengeance in their heart. That implies that there was something done to them by Shiva or someone else that they think was connected to her even. This makes me think of the One year later arc in Birds of Prey (1999) #93-95, where Lady Shiva was a title of a protector and the best fighter of some nondescript village, so maybe one of the previous ones...? There is zero basis for this and I am just making things up, however.

Honestly, the guy on the train is a pretty wild card. I haven't seen anyone identify him. It is entirely possible he is a new character and so he is a total blank slate. There is no point in theorizing about him if all we know is his appearance and that he knows Nyssa Raatko and Angel Breaker.

tbh, if i were writing S&B, I would classify Tailors as a sort of "hybrid" between the Corporalki and the *Materialki*. Which would further explain why Genya is so alienated from other "Grisha" in the first book (before Tailoring becomes just a thing all heartrenders can do, apparently): she's not, by current understanding, supposed to exist. (p1)

I think it would really underline Genya's loyalty to the Darkling, as they both are "the only one of their kind", so to speak, and also add dimension to Genya's relationship with David. Maybe Genya underwent testing as a child to see if her talent extended to Durast abilities, and that's how she and David met (I don't recall their canon backstory in the books). Of course, this all would require a story that's interested in things other than Alina Being Right.

My rationale for making Tailors a "hybrid" between Corporalki and Materialki is that Genya can actually *change* the appearance of something, for a short time. Hair color, eye makeup, etc. Unlike healers, who can only return something to a healthy state, and heartrenders, who can manipulate blood but not really change it on a "molecular" level for lack of a better word. I may be misremembering but this is my thought process

Corporalki/Materialki combo was Tailors' original classification:

“Are there other Tailors?” I asked. “Genya is unique,” [the Darkling] answered, glancing at me. “Like us.” ... “When Genya’s abilities began to show themselves, I could have had her choose between becoming a Fabrikator or a Corporalnik. Instead, I cultivated her particular affinity and made a gift of her to the Queen.”

Shadow and Bone- Chapter 7

I don't think there was a backstory to Genya and David's relationship. It's mentioned she spends a lot of her free time in Materialki workrooms, but that likely had something to do with her getting the necessary ingredients for her "kit". At least initially. She also developed the poison she used on the King, so I'd see her as potential Alkemi, should she give up her uniqueness.

While the Materialki part's probably needed for transfer of pigments, not so long ago I've argued Healers should be more skilled in "rough" tailoring than Tailors themselves. The colours aside, it's basically plastic surgery directed by feel, and who better to do that, than people trained to know the deepest workings of human body.

It's kinda bizarre Genya was appointed the Grisha triumvirate representative of Corporalki, when I can't remember a single mention of her studies with the rest or use of powers even in the most ordinary Corporalki way. Actually, the wording, when she acts as Alina's guide in the first book, makes it sound as if she didn't even know what their workrooms look like from the inside:

“We’re on the other side of the Corporalki anatomy rooms.” “Don’t they need light to … do their work?” “Skylights,” she said. “In the roof, like the library dome. They prefer it that way. It keeps them and their secrets safe.” “But what do they do in there?” I asked, not entirely sure I wanted to hear the answer. “Only the Corporalki know. But there are rumors that they’ve been working with the Fabrikators on new … experiments.”

Shadow and Bone- Chapter 8

I wouldn't define Healers as "returning bodies to healthy state". Canon explanations are sparse at best, but when you think about it both injuries and illnesses change bodies. Those aren't a sum of reconfiguring elements, but living tissues. Instead of turning abnormalities into atoms, and building something of these, I've always though it works on bigger scale- acceleration of the processes body would do by itself.

Instead of turning contamination into particles and building new molecules, then cells etc., helping the body clean the mess and giving it energy and direction to make a new tissue. So technically a broken arm would be healed just like without Healer's help, only faster. Or they could direct the body to heal it crooked on purpose. Or move some cells where they don't belong, and make a tumor. Suppress immune system. Stir up immune system.

Tell the body what to do, and give it a push.

Today I wore my Adam Rodriguez Eras Tour shirt that I made. It had some of my favourite characters of his on it!

When I booked the Sunday solo i KNEW id be overwhelmed on the Saturday and wanted to make sure I wasn't a fucking sook when talking to him.

Past me was so spot on because i was CHILL as fuck.

I walk in and smile at him, filled with so much confidence “Hellllllo gorgeous"

he stands up BEAMING from ear to ear, with his arms out ready for a hug.

"DANNI! i /love/ the shirt!"

he asked if he could take a photo of it....

I told him how he encouraged me to take this trip because he knew just how much it meant to me.

he started talking about finding your Person and how wonderful it is when you connect and click with the One . how nothing made sense until he met his wife. hes sucha fucking softie. i CANNOT😭😭

he asked if he remembered correctly that IM from Melbourne. he mentioned his author friend and recommended i read the book he published. I told him id hunt it down (it arrived today!) (shantaram by Gregory David Roberts )

I asked him if he had any tattoos after he pointed mine out. he told me theres two reasons why he doesnt.

1) he knows that if he starts, he wont be able to stop, and that hed need to keep the canvas even (if he got one on his chest hed have to match it on the other side) 2) he doesnt want to have to spend 45 minutes in the make up chair everyday getting them covered up. he LOVES rolling into work right when he needs to be there so he does not want to have to get there early to get them covered up. And TBH he’s so real for that.

We spoke about Magic Mike and how he still keeps in contact with the guys, he spoke about how Channing called him up and asked if he wanted to be in the movie. He said that he worked with him previously before he was a Big Star and I was like “yeah he was in an epnof CSI Miami” and he stares at me “yeah, you knew that?… HOW did you know that” and me trying to remain as composed as possible managed to say “I know you” as if that’s not the most creepy thing I could have said. But he seemed endeared by it.

We were running out of time and he starts yapping away again before turning to the nice helper lady who was trying to gently and kindly keep us on schedule and asked if we were out of time. And she was like “we are already late at the moment” and Adam slaps the table and goes “well if we’re already late then that’s fine! She came all the way from Australia! We can give her more time!”

The helper lady did ask if she could take a photo of us for the socials and like who am I to deny them that? 😂😂

I told him that he was the only reason I watched Magic Mike. I had no interest in watching male strippers then I found out he was in it and just had to watch it.

He laughed and asked what I thought of it and I’m pretty sure I moaned instead of articulating anything.

He told me he loved working on it and had fun with it.

Five minutes really does go FAST when you’re yapping but he really was so damn easy to talk to.

The way he apologised to me for rambling away about something as if I would ever tell him to shut up. I told him I didn’t care what we talked about. That this was more than I could ever ask for.

He couldn’t believe I flew all that way and he hoped that it was worth it. Like BABES 🙈 my name was in your mouth. It was worth it.

We took our selfies and he held my phone as he snapped a handful of them for me.

As I went to move away (RELUCTANTLY) he PULLED me back in. And said

“Nah, come on, a few more, gimme a big smile” 🫠🫠

As I was leaving, Kirsten’s two friends (who were sitting in on the Kirsten solo chats) shouted out to me “show us the shirtttttttt”

I’m pretty sure I was dead again at this point I barely remember any of the garvez QnA that followed right after this.

@darcyfangirlsfrequently already knows all this but I’m tagging them again, anyway.
