jack kelly loves snuggling btw. burying his face in davey's stomach, or the crook of his neck when they're laying down. when he's got a blanket to sleep with, he's rolled up like he's in a cocoon. he loves feeling warm and cozy but could never admit it out loud. he likes wrapping himself up in a blanket and sleeping against davey's side, knocked out after the exhaustion of selling papers and taking care of newsies catches up to him, while davey plays with his hair and talks about anything at all. big and strong by day, the leader who takes care of every other newsboy and fights on their behalf, but smaller at night when he's curled around davey, enveloped by the taller boy, feeling warm and safe and content.

I think daily about the fact that Jack and Katherine would be alive in World War I, and that Jack would probably be drafted and Katherine would have to wait without news about him, and I feel very sad every time

I was in theatre a while ago and there is this group of like 3 or 4 people who I have figured out are newsies fans by eavesdropping (I am extremely good at eavesdropping wether on purpose or not).

Of course, I can't go up and talk to random people because starting a conversation with a stranger makes me shrivel up and die but you know what annoys me? They have mentioned newsies being their favorite musical but I've gathered that for their fav musical, they sure are clueless about it.

I once heard them discussing it and they were talking about the characters and they were all like

Person 1: What are the characters names again?

Person 2: Uh, Jack Kelly, I think?

Person 3 (aka the only one with literally any sense): Crutchie?

Person 2: I don't think so (Wtf, yes Crutchie is a character. You are not Jack Kelly approved)

Person 3: I think maybe Racetrack?

Person 1: yeah maybe

They were once discussing what time is is set in and it went from like 1880 to like 1960 and they decided that it was set in the 1920s and I'm sitting here like "no, that's Gatsby. Get ur act together."

It occurs to me that some people aren't as obsessed w newsies as I am, but I'm still offended. How could you have it as ur fav musical, and know the names of like 1-3 characters and not the time it was set???

Anyways, I'm planning on making an edit of spot conlon but I don't know what quote he says to use for the intro, so here's a poll 😽

I love Katherine's first interaction with the newsies because it sets up her place in the strike perfectly. She comes into the deli all confident and blustery, acting like she's so superior to these broke street kids. She's a teenage girl trying to make it as a reporter, of course she's used to acting tougher than she is! Of course she tries to set herself up as someone powerful, because if she doesn't believe in her own power then nobody will. And well, the newsies don't like her. Like Crutchie says; "you don't gotta be insulting." It's when she starts implying that they don't really know what they're doing as a union that Jack and Davey start implying that she doesn't know what she's doing as a reporter. They're all used to being looked down upon, so what Katherine needs to do in order to connect with them is to meet them as equals. It's when she lets down her guard and admits that she's an overwhelmed kid determined to get her voice out there (just like the rest of them) that the newsies finally let her in. She's got more in common with the newsies than with her father, and when she embraces that fact she's able to fully work with them and become a part of the strike.

Newsies is fundamentally about young people who don't get respect from anybody all banding together to fight for their dignity, and Katherine needs to learn to accept that being seen as inexperienced shouldn't reduce her value. That's why King of New York is my favorite Katherine scene, because she's able to fully be a kid and goof around with her friends while still proving the power of her writing. She doesn't need to act tough and be an adult like her father in order to get respect, she deserves credit just for being herself and doing things her own way.
