ofc ofc!! I took a little more liberty on Crutchie’s design so I may draw a more canon version but I hope you enjoy this nonetheless!!

Charlie/Casey “Crutchie” Morris & D’Angelo “Romeo” Nico de la Cruz

As always down below is my research that went into their designs and stuffs that I found!

Crutchie

I wanted Crutchie to be religious. Morris is a Jewish last name, Uksies Crutchie has his rosary, and in all versions Crutchie is very polite about Wiesel (who is also Jewish, I had seen a headcanon where Crutchie knows this and wanted to show some respect)

Also to reference the rosary Uksies Crutchie has, I gave him a Star of David necklace.

I’m kind of on the fence of making Crutchie a PoC character, I like his design a lot and it works with him, I originally wanted to make him more like Joshua Boone because for some reason in my head Crutchie has those vibes visually but I went a different direction with that

The red bandana under his hair represents Brooklyn! York’s still his cousin in this AU so I gave him the bandana to reference that.

I referenced the blue shirt from Uksies Crutchie, and I kind of want to give him the overalls too!

Romeo

I stayed more faithful to the livesies design of Romeo (because I’m Filipino and everything Filipino must stay) so I used Nico DeJesus as my base and worked from there!

I made the shirt more baby blue to represent how new he is to being a newsie and I made him younger because most of the newsies were supposed to be younger as being a newsboy was really just a gateway job to other better ones

Romeo’s mom being a former Bowery beauty or a “Lady of Pleasure” was either a headcanon I saw or something random I just mashed up in my memory which is pretty rad.

Overall I really enjoyed designing these two and having at least one more semi-main character done! my requests are always open and I hope to see more character requests soon!

In which Davey is Spiderman and he goes through what all Spidermen do, isolation from friends. But, of course, Jack and the rest of the kids, doesn't let that happen.

Did a comic because Spiderman.... (surprisingly, this is the first time I've drawn ANY Spiderman and it's David, it's fitting)

One thing I’ve learned through my years of consuming live theatre and bootlegs of live theatre is that you can almost always tell when someone used to be a Newsie.

They always have this like indescribable quality about how they move even compared to other incredibly well trained dancers. I think it’s just because Newsies is such an insane, other level caliber of dance that it just brings them to another quality of movement.

I don’t know how to describe it. I just know that whenever I watch something the Newsie always stands out.

Finally finished my fanart for @allyheart707's Little Subjects!!

If you don't recognize the lyrics, they're from the Broadway play 'Newsies.' :) The song is about the hopeful dream of two young newsboys to someday go to the glorified town of Santa Fe, and escape all of their woes and lack of freedom. Soooooooo you can see why I picked it for my fanart of Ally's au. ;)

( I actually originally had the plan for Mikey and Donnie to be taking the place of Annie, from the 1982 film, but decided that the song from Newsies would fit better. :) The building where Mikey and Donnie are staying, is what the orphanage looked like that inspired the story of Annie! )
