The story is that when American soldiers were moving Indians off their land on the Trail of Tears, the Cherokee mothers were grieving and crying so much, 'cause they were losing their little ones along the way from exposure and disease and starvation. A lot of them just disappeared. So the elders, they, uh, said a prayer, asked for a sign to uplift the mothers' spirits, give them strength and hope. The next day this rose started to grow right where the mothers' tears fell. I'm not fool enough to... Think there's any flowers blooming for my brother. But I... I believe this one... Bloomed for your little girl. She's gonna really like it in here.

Sorry this is off topic a bit, I hope it's okay to ask you. I've seen you post in the past about the Find Me fight and I wanted to ask what your perspective was on daryl in season 11. I always felt like there was a tension between him and carol, like he doesn't trust her entirely anymore, and it was never exactly resolved. I've seen some people really unhappy with how daryl treated Carol in 10c and season 11 and said he was ooc this whole time. What was your take?

The Find Me fight didn’t bother me (too much) at the time it aired. I wanted Carol to push back more than she did, but regardless, I thought it was the breaking point their relationship needed so that they could build it back up stronger than ever. I expected a cathartic follow-up scene in S11 where Daryl would apologize and explain what was really bothering him—that he loved her and was afraid of losing her—but like you said, we never got anything of the sort. They buried their issues, didn’t talk about anything, acted like strangers in some instances, and in one instance, “What have you done?” it seemed like Daryl was angry at Carol for something again and nobody could put their finger on why. That continues into the spinoff. Daryl seems upset at/resentful toward Carol for no reason. There could definitely be a reason if the EPs leaned into the divorced couple angle, but they won’t, so instead it just feels like punishing Carol for shits and giggles 🤷🏻‍♀️

Of course she did. Carol was omniscient. But Daryl had a habit of doubting himself.

Daryl: Don't matter.

Carol: *sighs and puts her hand on his shoulder* Stop doubting yourself, you're adorable and you deserve love, pookie.

*She smiles and ruffles his hair, and he blushes.*

Daryl: Alrigh'. I'll talk to her.

Carol: There we go. That's my pookie!

Daryl: *scoffs* Stop.

I absolutely love writing Daryl as being captivated, even discreetly so, with Carol. Just…with the desire to give her everything, worship her. And she’s just as enthralled with him but neither of them realize the extent of the other’s devotion.

Idiots. Both of them. I love it.

I don't think I'm ever gonna get tired of hearing Melissa and Norman say how happy they are to have Carol and Daryl back together. Or how happy they are to be working together again & how much they love working together. Or how much they missed each other and how much they love each other. It's like they grab hold of every single opportunity they get to say it and show it, and I love them for it. They have such a special and beautiful bond and friendship, and I love that we get to witness and experience small parts of it.

The way Mel thanked Norman on the panel at NYCC when she was talking about what it's like and what they do when they film scenes together made me tear up, just seeing how much it means to them both. Then, with how emotional they both got when they were talking about their beautiful reunion scene. I feel so lucky that we have them both, and I'm very grateful that they are putting their hearts and souls into this spinoff for us all, and obviously, for the rest of the team that is making the magic happen, too.

My heart is full of appreciation, gratitude, and love ❤️ 😍
