Heute nehme ich mit Anna Clara Lehmann Martins, Haochen Ku und Juma Noah Omollo an einem Round-Table-Gespräch der Sommerakademie des MPI für Rechtsgeschichte und Rechtstheorie teil. Wir diskutieren aus vier unterschiedlichen Perspektiven folgende Frage: When does law begin? Ich bringe die Perspektive einer Rechtstheorie ein, die sich für dasjenige am Recht interessiert, das man Bild, Fiktion und Technik nennt. Immer dann, wenn etwas anfängt, fängt auch das Recht an. Anfangen ist legal technique in Yan Thomas Sinne; es ist darüber hinaus aber auch eine juridische Kulturtechnik, also eine Technik, die zwar rechtlich zum Einsatz kommt, aber nicht nur rechtlich zum Einsatz kommt. Heute stelle ich die Operation lancieren/launchen vor. Man braucht dafür eine Lanze, etwa einer der Lanzen der Dämmerung, von denen Philippe Descola spricht, und man braucht ein Operationsfeld, zum Beispiel einen Acker oder eine Tafel, auf deren Grund man die Lanze nutzt, um etwas vom Recht zu lancieren/ zu launchen. Die Aufstellung einen Gnomon (eines kosmographischen Objektes) verlangt zum Beispiel, die Lanze in den Boden zu rammen. Damit kann man sich und andere in Raum und Zeit orientieren, also zum Beispiel Zeit messen. Man kann dann mit einer Illusion Zeit haben, zum Beispiel mit der Fiktion, alles was in Sichtweite der Lanze wäre, wäre zur gleichen Zeit am gleichen Ort und würde eine Gegenwart, zum Beispiel die Moderne, teilen.

I am a little ashamed that this one was in progress for so long and I have only three pages to show for it, but I got so burned out with it that I just thought, "Damn, I'm done." So sadly I'm wrapping up Road Trip as a slice-of-life brief.

I bit off a little more than I could chew and found out I have zero interest in drawing vehicles the hard way. Still, I'm happy with how Shimura's motorcycle turned out.

this is not a jab at heartstopper whatsoever, but as someone who’s only been watching supernatural queer shows all summer, it’s so funny getting used to the sudden change of pace. i’ve watched a cat fall in love with an edwardian ghost, a teenage girl explode some guy’s head, the ruler of all dreams having the slow-burn of the millennium with an immortal man, and now i’m watching a show that centers around the romance of two regular high schoolers

Wherein Jim bravely endures a Space Zoom Call with 10 participants.

Shenanigans ensue when one middle finger to the Academy too many gets Starfleet Cadet James T. Kirk booted off planet for a summer internship aboard the V.S.S. Sh'Raan.

He's hiding a major secret from the oh so earnest and helpful Vulcans, but the longer he's on the ship, the more Jim starts to wonder if they're keeping secrets from him, too.

Excerpt:

Captain Spisee handed Jim a heavy sheet of rich, cream paper embossed with gold dusted Vulcan calligraphy bearing the ship’s name. It was a bit cheap by the standards of Vulcan stationary aesthetics, but shipboard life meant some sacrifices. In the most elegant handwriting he’d ever had the privilege to lay eyes on, it read:

Human Enrichment and Optimal Health Program:

One (1) Daily Shoulder Pat (more provided upon request) 

Seventy (70) Seconds of Hug Time Per Week (divided between crew members as you deem necessary) 

Three (3) Discrete Instances of Daily Praise

Three (3) Structured Entertainments per week

 Minimum of One (1) Social Companion per meal (more available upon request)

Jim looked up from the Human Enrichment And Optimal Health Program and into Captain Spisee’s luminous brown eyes. There was no hint of mockery or malice there. He was an earnest scientist, possessing both cheekbones so sharp you could cut glass with them and the quadrant’s most excellent taste in guest furniture. He’d been given a unique task, and on Surak’s Katric Ark, he performed it with the same thoroughly Vulcan scientific intensity he would give the discovery of a new species of cave moss.

“We would appreciate detailed weekly feedback on the efficacy of our Human integration efforts,” said Captain Spisee.

“This is…” Intense? Weird? “Incredibly thoughtful.”

“You are not required to reciprocate the Daily Praise,” said Captain Spisee. Despite his words, Jim could swear one corner of his mouth twitched upwards two entire millimeters.

Die diesjährige summer academy am Max-Planck-Institut für Rechtsgeschichte und Rechtstheorie ist den Medien, den Objekten, den Materialitäten sowie Kulturtechniken gewidmet. Mein Forschungsgebiet ist das Verhältnis zwischen Recht und Bild, damit auch das Verhältnis zwischen Bild- und Rechtswissenschaft. Sowohl das Recht als auch das Bild beschreibe ich über eine Reihe von technischen Operationen, die Elemente involvieren, die auch als Subjekt, Objekt und als Handlung (und damit wieder als Aktion/ Reaktion/ Passion) beschreibbar sind. Damit gilt mein Interesse auch den Gegenständen, von dem auf dieser sommer academy die Rede ist. Die Sommerakademie ist einer der deutlichsten Ausweise des Luxus am MPI: Aus der ganzen Welt erhalten wir Bewerbungen von Forscherinnen und Forschern, die dasjenige, was sie tun, vor allem durch ihre Fragestellung rechtfertigen; die arbeiten advanced bis avantgardistisch. Sie haben nicht nichts, nicht niemanden hinter sich, sie haben nichts anderes als eine Welt im Rücken.

I have no explanation for why Compress would wear the mask while asleep. (The original was a dude wearing a gas mask because he was worried about polluted air.)  Maybe he knows Dabi sleeps like a maniac and, on realizing he got the futon next to his, opted to wear some facial protection to avoid getting slapped in the face by the oblivious little shit.

Also, the headcanon that Dabi talks in his sleep...sure, why not?
