How to get your life together: Student edition ᯓᡣ𐭩
Mindset
As cliche and redundant as it sounds, it's important to be positive, as well as realistic, about your academic life. Understand what you want to achieve, what you're capable of, how to effectively push yourself and how to rest. This is the recipe for success.
2. Goal setting
Bouncing off of the mindset step, focus on what it is your want to achieve in your academic life. Be very specific with these goals. Understand and set your yearly goals, quarterly goals, as well as monthly and weekly goals. This will help you plan your days and have a realistic sense of time in terms of how much work needs to be done in certain subjects, how much rest can be had, and how often breaks should be taken.
3. Discipline & self understanding
Understanding who you are as a person and how you learn, process, and retain information can help you effectively practice self discipline.
Questions to ask yourself:
+ What type of learning style do I have?
+ What time of day do I work best in?
+ What environments do I work best in?
+ Are digital or physical notes more comfortable and effective to me?
+ Have I established a pleasant relationship with my instructors and at least one peer in all of my classes?
+ What subjects am I strongest in?
+ Do I learn best in a group environment, one on one, or reviewing notes independently?
+ Am I easily distracted when studying? If so, by what, and can these things be easily prevented?
+ What are specific triggers (if any) that help me get "in the zone?"
+ When are my typical rest days, or times of the week/month/year that I like to rest (no work at all, or very light reviewing)?
4. Daily schedule
Now, create a schedule around your answers to the previous questions and make certain tasks "non-negotiable." (Whether this be "I must brush my teeth and shower after waking up," or "I must study from 6-10 every night," is your decision.) Be realistic with setting these non-negotiable tasks, but also believe in yourself, and try and push yourself a little out of your comfort zone. You know what you're capable of, and if you want to achieve something you feel you're just not ready for, practice,- and build up your stamina!
Things to always include in your daily schedule:
+ Wake up time
+ Getting ready/ commute time
+ At least two meal times
+ At least an hour of leisure time
+ At least seven hours of sleep a night
+ Do your homework the day it is assigned
+ Give yourself a daily reward
Things to always include in your montly schedule:
+ At least one date with friends or family
+At least one date with your significant other
+ At least one phone call with long distance loved ones
+ At least one study date a week with peers or friends
+ At least a certain time during a certain day of the week to completely unplug and rest
+ Read the syllabus and log every important deadline and exam
Other useful tips:
+ Keep your workspace tidy, inspiring and organized
+ Changing the scenery when you work can be a nice change of pace
+ Breaking big tasks down into smaller chunks can feel less overwhelming
+ Plan meals ahead or small snacks so you won't feel hungry/forget to eat
+ Use materials that are effective and fun for you
Studying time frames:
Study time - Break time
20 min - 5 min
30 min - 10 min
45 min - 15 min
1 hr - 20 min
1hr 30 min - 25 min
2 hr - 30-45 min
When should you study?
+ Never the night before
+ Exam - 1 week before
+ Test - 3 days before
+ Study first thing when you awake
+ Review complicated concepts before bed

Depression/Adhd study tips coming from someone who has depression, anxiety, and ADHD. All of these I try to do
Make the process as bearable as possible. Put on those fuzzy socks you like, comfy clothes, pour yourself your favorite drink, and have a treat while studying
Pavlov yourself into it
I've found that when I do these, it both helps sit down and get started, and it makes my brain associate it with positive things.
If you have the option, have a specific place you do schoolwork.
I happen to have like 3 desks in my dorm, even though I live in a single 🙃 So I have a desk where I have fun stuff, like my TV and gaming console, and a work desk which has my printer, laptop, and Kettle.
Minimize your distractions. Given that I'm currently writing this in procrastination, I'm lowkey failing that, but that's okay. You're going to get distracted sometimes. What matters is getting something done.
What did help minimize distractions is that I drink tea while I work. So I moved my kettle to my desk so I wouldn't have to get up and walk across my room every half hour
Find lighting that works for you. Some people might like soft lighting,
for me if I'm studying at night I need all the lights on to minimc daylight as much as possible.
Notice what you happen to be wearing or doing when your being productive. Like after you get your work done. We're you sitting in a specific position? what was the environment like? what were you wearing, was your hair up or down? were you wearing shoes?
Oddly, for me, I'm most productive if I'm wearing a bra with an underwire. If I need to clean, putting on shoes seems to cue my brain into its work time. Music usually helps me stay focused
If you take medication, make sure you take your medication.
Look, just make sure your basic needs, like sleep, food, and water, are all met first. Trust me, it is impossible to focus otherwise. Same with anything clamoring at your brain.
Regulate yourself first, like lay under a weighted blanket, meditate, or go on a walk. Those are all examples I do that help.
If you're nervous about an exam you're studying for and your stomach is in knots, you're never gonna retain the info. So take care of yourself first.
Block off more time than you think you need. Should this only take an hour? block off 2.5 hours. Especially if you have adhd and you aren't hyperfocused, you're gonna get distracted. Sometimes, you might not finish. that's okay. The goal is to have something. A word, a sentence, a page. Even if it's not a lot, something is better than nothing.
if you're really struggling with an assignment, half ass it. something is better than nothing, and yeah, you might fail it, but at least I'll be a 20% rather than a 0%.
Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly

Winter Break Goals:
Organize!!
- I’ve been busy studying for my finals, ACT, and SAT so now that it’s break it’s the perfect time to clean and organize my space. I’m also gonna be decluttering and getting rid of everything that I don’t love.
Draw!!
- Now that I’m done with the semester I have more time to create art!🎉 My goal is to get a rough draft of the first chapter of a comic I’m working on completed, along with designing some new fashions.
Study!!
- I’m going to begin studying Korean and Japanese. I’m very determined to learn both quickly, so from now on I’ll be studying them both very hard.

I hate when people ask me what my dream job is. Like I don’t know?? I’m fifteen??? How do you have such elaborate hope and dreams ?? That are realistic ?? And would make money ?? Hello ?? Warnings: Talk about real world probloms?
A/N: Viktor is an Enviormental science student who is active in political and social probloms. He works at a small student owned human rights campain and makes posts about it on his socials. Jayce is an Engineer student. Who works at a small restaraunt. And helps Viktor figure out logistics. As a viktor kinnie looking for my irl Jayce, I approve this message.
"Okay, maybe choosing not to live in the dorms was stupid." Viktor huffs as He and Jayce walk back to their flat after classes. "Better accomidations at the flat." Jayce says not really looking up from his new work scedule, untill Viktor stops him from walking into traffic. "Eh, I could handle the stairs but walking in the cold, no." "Could you?" Jayce says a little dazed from getting pulled. "I dunno, probably." "But could you handle living with classmates?" Jayce smirks. "Eh, I live with you." "But thats diffrent." Jayce laughs as Viktor opens the door to the appartment building for him. "Is it now?" Viktor hums as Jayce unlockes the flat. "Isent it?" Jayce responds faking heart brake. "I mean, you are a classmate that I live with." Viktor reasons. "But you like living with me." Jayce smirks as he starts rummaging through the cabnits. "Hm." Vik hums as he lays his bag on his bed and starts taking out his home work. "Dont you?" Jayce says starting to dig into a bad of chips. "I suppose so. And dont eat all of thoes." Jayce smiles at that. "Would you rather cook?" Viktor thinks about it for a moment. "No. Order in, I have, eh a lot of work to do." "Homework?" Jayce asks placeing an order for there regular meals. "Mhm, and some personal studies." Jayce nods looking up at Viktor. "What kind of personal studies?" Viktor pulls off his sweater in favor of his "homosexual tendencies" t- shirt. He tried not to smile when he sees Jayce blush. "The normal kind." Jayce smiles and hands Viktor a hoodie knowing he gets cold. "Good luck saving the world, V. Ill text you when the food gets here." Viktor smile as Jayce once again proves how perfect he is. Trading his black jeans and stability brace for ball shorts and a fabric brace, he climbs into bed and opens his laptop. The image of him and Jayce doing some cheap face masks they got greet him. He hates to admit that he likes Jayce, and he wont unless directly asked. After a few minutes he hears his phone buzz but ignores it favor of a study about low life expectancy in low income areas.
Jayce lays all the food out on the coffee table and checks to see if Viktor has responded. When he sees he hasent Jayce decides to go get him. "V? Food's here." Viktor pushes his glasses up by rubbing his eyes. "Ah, yes. Sorry." Jayce gives a sentimental smile "No problem." After a moment they are both sitting on the couch food in hand and scrolling through tv. "Hey, V?" "Hm?" Viktor responds a mouthful of food. "...I dont see you as another classmate." Jayce confesses not making eye contact. "What do you mean, Jayce?" Viktor asks trying to decipher what exactly Jayce ment. "I mean, I feel close to you. I like you." Viktor laughs "Thats a relief, it would suck if you hated your flat mate-" "Viktor. I like, you." Jayce says more firmly looking at the other man now. "Oh." Viktor says quietly. "I..Im not good at talking about feelings but..I like you too."

I never understood why parents punish/ground their kids for having bad grades. obviously, your child is struggling academically and needs help...so... Your choice is to punish them..? Maybe if you took time out of your oh so busy life, and tried to help your child study, make it fun even! they'd be doing better in school. They might even be struggling mentally, punishing them just makes it worse and makes them less modivated. Your child needs human understanding, they're not a robot. This can lead to your child being scared to ask for help, or pushing themselves to be perfect, stressing over a less than perfect grade. Stop saying your child is a failure, you're just a bad parent.

I annotated this amazing book. I totally recommend it. The tabs are moments where imagery was super vivid. I’m going to design an art study around these tabs, and I’ll keep my process posted.

Using My Time Wisely [Social Distancing] #3
Falling motivation, stress, how I’m trying to finish my school semester.
With all my good intentions and ambitions to use my time wisely I had found myself in a slum of depression and lack of motivation when it came to my studies. I have two weeks left in my semester and since everything had gone online, I have been forces to attempt to be productive at home. With my ADD I cannot efficiently work on schoolwork from home. My home contains a lot of distractions like games and food. As with this lack of motivation I was not feeling good.
I tried to manage my ADD without medication. Instead I relied on constant exercise and a steady routine. I have tried to keep up my exercising at home with home workout and morning runs but it’s not easy to get these things done when my mind is constantly stressing about the lack of work, I’ve accomplished towards my school semester.
So basically, I can’t workout because I haven’t gotten my homework done but I can’t get my homework done because I haven’t workout.
So overall not a fun situation.
Since then I have been pulling myself out of the slum piece by piece. The cards that I have made from [my last post] are more useful when I don’t have homework to do. They are still being used but not as frequently at the moment. I plan to return to that system once my semester is complete.
Therefore, I would like to share what I have been doing to help keep myself motivated and productive with what I have.
1. Reaching out
Probably one of the hardest tasks to do, especially for those with social anxiety but trust me that in our current situation talking to someone you trust, or anyone is very helpful, and you might not be the only one who needs to talk to someone. Staying connected with each other will be out greatest defence in staying sane.
I am very lucky to have a personal trainer who is willing to stay on the phone with my to help sort out my mental state. Talking to him might not have solved the problem but getting my thoughts out there and having them get repeated back to me helped make my current situation seem more manageable, and that’s a good start.
2. Keeping your environment clean
This might seem like procrastinating but in this situation keeping your work environment clean is a good thing. Try not to go into a state of heavy organization because that would be considered procrastinating. Keeping your area in order will help keep your mental state in order as well. Since we can’t escape it, we might as well make it enjoyable.
3. Fresh air in the morning
You do not need to out outside completely, opening a window when you wake up or standing outside your front door with tea or coffee will not only give you some energy, but it will make you feel more awake and alert.
I have been trying to wake up and run every second day just to get it out of the way, give myself some fresh air and to give myself a sense of accomplishment throughout the day. not exercising enough causes me to panic and stress so making sure I do this in the morning has been crucial towards my steps to productivity.
Other tasks that I don’t think I need to explain:
4. Get dress and ready for the day
5. Eat well
6. Drink lots of water
Some say that you should accomplish the hardest task first thing in the morning and that is correct. Depending on what that task may be to you I highly suggest making it a habit to get it done first. That sense of accomplishment will remain a high point and you can carry that with you throughout your day.
Now I haven’t been able to follow all these tasks to the letter lately, but it is still early. I am not out of this gloom yet, but I am doing my best. Don’t let depression or anxiety stick around too long, it is okay to have it sometimes but letting it fester is less then ideal. Everything will be okay. We will get though this. This is only temporary.

happy finals week from a stressed gal who is dreaming of summer adventures ~
i just made a detailed study schedule for my theory exam next Monday because there is a lot of material and i refuse to leave it until the weekend before like i usually do lol. i had my first theory final this morning, but still have theory dictation tomorrow, secondary piano on Wednesday, a nutrition exam and art history presentation on Thursday, and then my last theory keyboard exam, another small test, and a 10 page paper due at the beginning of next week oof. but hey! it’s starting to warm up so i got to sit outside and plan my week this morning, which is one of my favorite things to do tbh.

Stranger things characters helping an s/o who’s failing their math class
Ok so @aceofhimbos requested that I do Eddie, Steve and Johnathan with an s/o who is failing math. At the time I was on really shitty wifi and I thought I saved it but of course it didn’t save. I am horrible at anything but basic math so I totally get this. I barely passed my last math class. So I hope y’all enjoy this. I imply that the reader is a senior in high school in Eddies and Johnathan’s bits because that’s around the age of them.
Includes: Eddie Munson, Steve Harrington, Johnathan Byers
Warnings: None I can think of
Eddie Munson
Eddie isn’t great at his classes either. He’s gonna suggest study dates and use “rewards” to help modivate you to try as best as you can. The reward are gonna be kisses and that’ll probably lead to you two making out.
He has access to a lot of smart kids at school so he might employ them to help you.
I feel like he might try to get you to cheat in class too. “It’s senior year calculus, you’re not gonna use it ever again. Come on Y/N it’s not that big of a deal.”
If you a C or higher on a test he’s gonna be so excited for you. Get ready to have a little party with him. And if you pass the class he’s going all out for you. He’ll spoil you a bit with your favorite snacks, drinks, watching your favorite movies and lots of cuddles and kisses. Get ready for a long make out sesh or a long night of cuddling with eachother.
Steve Harrington
Steve did pass all of his classes but he’s no genius. He’ll help tutor you to the best of his ability. He will constantly reassure you that you’re not dumb or stupid and that math is hard.
He’ll make flashcards and go over to your house to help you practice. Will give you so much praise every time you get it right and if you get all of them right he will give you a sweet kiss and take you out to get ice cream or whatever else you want.
Will totally give you so much time to do whatever you need to get things done. He will stay up until 2 in the morning to help you finish your homework
He’s gonna come up with fun ways to get you to remember things and will share tips of stuff he did before tests that always helped him and gave him good luck. “So every night before I aced a test I wore socks to bed and fell asleep listening to music.”
Johnathan Byers
He is pretty smart when it comes to math and stuff like that. Smarter than Steve and Eddie that is. He’s gonna come over every day that he can and help you study and do your homework.
If you get really stressed and start to cry he’s going to pull you away from the work and help calm you down. If it’s something due tomorrow he’ll do it for you and walk through all the steps of how he got there, making sure to get a few wrong so that the teacher doesn’t know someone else did it.
Like Eddie he might get someone else to help tutor you. That person being Will. He might be a freshman in high school but he is really good at math, kinda needs to be to play dnd.
Will constantly give you so much praise for working so hard and trying your best to do what you can. If you get good grades on anything or even pass the class he’s going to be so happy for you, get ready for a fun date night. You get to pick what you two are doing.
